THANK YOU. THIS NOW BRINGS US TO OUR AGENDA ITEM 5.2 OUR CISD HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD, MR. KIRCHNER. YES, PRESIDENT.

ALL MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND, WE WERE ABLE TO RESUME OUR HEARTBEAT AWARD LAST MONTH.

AND SO THIS MONTH WE PICKED IT BACK UP WITH A REALLY FUN SURPRISE WHERE WE SNUCK UP ON THIS MONTH'S WINNER WITH A SOCIALLY DISTANT SURPRISE.

WATCH THIS VIDEO AND HOW WE DID THAT AND WHO WE'RE HONORING THIS MONTH.

SOMETIMES WE GET THIS NOTIFICATION, MAYBE FOUR OR FIVE DAYS OUT OR MAYBE A WEEKEND HAS HAPPENED AND PEOPLE'S MEMORY GETS A LITTLE FOGGY, SO WE MAKE SURE THAT IN THAT WE ARE DILIGENT ABOUT MAKING CERTAIN THAT THAT STUDENT WAS PRESENT SO THAT WE DON'T NAME.

I'M SORRY TO INTERRUPT.

WE'RE NOT HERE FOR WHAT YOU THINK WE'RE HERE FOR.

THIS IS THE HEARTBEAT COMMITTEE AND WE ARE HERE TO ANNOUNCE MISTY VANCAMPEN, CISD HEALTH SERVICES COORDINATOR, IS OUR WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR NURSE VANCAMPEN.

[APPLAUSE] NURSE MISTY IS THE HEARTBEAT OF ALL OF CROWLEY ISD SHE HAS BEEN WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK TO ENSURE THAT OUR ENTIRE DISTRICT STAYS SAFE AND HEALTHY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, CAMPUS PRINCIPALS FROM ACROSS CROWLEY ISD TOOK THE TIME TO NOMINATE YOU BECAUSE THEY SAY YOUR RESPONSE TIME IS ALWAYS QUICK WHEN THEY HAVE A COVID CONCERN AND YOU COMMUNICATE CONSTANTLY TO KEEP EVERYONE IN THE LOOP.

MISTY THEY USE WORDS LIKE DILIGENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT TO DESCRIBE YOU.

OUR CISD HEALTH SERVICES TEAM ALSO RALLIED TOGETHER TO NOMINATE NURSE MISTY.

ONE OF THEM SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A TOUGH TIME FOR NURSES, MS.

[00:15:03]

VANCAMPEN HAS CREATED A GREAT CULTURE FOR THE NURSES AND HEALTH AIDES TO WORK WHERE WE FEEL SUPPORTED, ENCOURAGED AND LIFTED UP.

NURSE MISTY THANK YOU FOR GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND THIS YEAR WITH KINDNESS AND ALWAYS HAVING A SMILE ON YOUR FACE.

CONGRATULATIONS.

[APPLAUSE] BEING A PRINCIPAL IN A NORMAL YEAR COMES WITH ITS CHALLENGES AND ITS GREAT REWARDS. BEING A PRINCIPAL DURING COVID SEASON HAS BEEN AN ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT STORY BECAUSE THERE IS A GREAT LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY AND JUST THE CARE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DOING THINGS RIGHT.

AND IT HAS MEANT SO MUCH TO KNOW THAT MISTY IS AVAILABLE AND IS THERE.

SHE'S INFORMED.

SHE IS INTENTIONAL, SHE'S CAREFUL WITH HER COMMUNICATION, CAREFUL WITH HER DECISIONS, AND SHE IS ALWAYS ON CALL AND AVAILABLE BECAUSE SHE TRULY CARES.

I FEEL LIKE WHEN YOU'RE RECOGNIZING ME OR RECOGNIZING THAT THE TEAM, THE HEALTH SERVICE TEAM DURING THIS TIME AND YOU EACH HAVE A PURPOSE AND PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE.

AND I BELIEVE YOU'RE RIGHT WHERE YOU'RE INTENDED TO BE FOR THIS SEASON.

AND THIS TIME I BELIEVE THERE ARE NO MISTAKES.

YOU KNOW, MY NURSES AND MY CLINIC GAVE AND MY PEOPLE I MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT THEIR CAMPUSES. THEY ARE ESSENTIAL WORKERS.

AND THEY NEED ME.

AND THAT'S WHAT DRIVES ME.

THEY NEED LEADERSHIP.

THEY NEED GUIDANCE.

THEY NEED TO KNOW THAT THEY CAN COME IN MY OFFICE, SHUT THE DOOR AND CRY.

THAT'S WHAT DRIVES ME, IS THE PEOPLE, OUR FAMILIES THAT NEED US, THE STAFF THAT NEED US, OUR PRINCIPLES THAT NEED US, THAT THAT IS WHAT DRIVES ME TO DO WHAT I DO EVERY DAY.

SHE'S PART OF THE TEAM.

SHE'S ONE OF US.

SHE'S WILLING TO GET IN THE TRENCHES AND HELP US OUT AT ANY TIME.

SHE WILL SIT IN THE CLINICS AND WORK WITH THE STUDENTS IF WE'RE SHORT ON STAFF.

SHE'S THE PERSON THAT.

IT'S NOT JUST SITTING BEHIND THE DESK, SHE'S SHE'S SHE'S OUT IN THE FIELDS AND SHE'S LOVED BY HER STAFF. AND SHE LOVES HER STAFF.

SHE NOT ONLY IS THERE AS OUR BOSS AND LEADER, BUT SHE'S OUR FRIEND AND SHE COMFORTS US WHEN WE NEED IT AND SHE PRAYS FOR US AS WE NEED THAT AS WELL.

SO. CAN'T HAVE A BETTER BOSS.

A YEAR AGO, I LOST MY HUSBAND.

SHE WAS PRESENT NOT ONLY ONE DAY, NOT ONLY TWO DAYS, BUT SHE WAS TAKING CARE OF ME NOT ONLY AS A COWORKER BUT AS A FRIEND AND AS SISTER IN CHRIST TOO.

DOESN'T MATTER WHAT TIME I NEED HER, SHE WAS THERE EVEN.

SACRIFICE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME WITH HER OF HER FAMILY, JUST TO GIVE IT TO ME AND LISTEN, I'M SORRY I COULDN'T. SHE WAS THERE FOR ME.

SHE HAS NOT BEEN DONE THAT ONLY FOR ME, BUT FOR OTHER COWORKERS, THAT THAT SHOWS HER HEART. AND I CAN SEE HER HEART CLEARLY.

AND THAT IS SO IS LIKE A CRYSTAL WHEN SHE DOES THOSE THINGS.

IS CLEAR. NURSE MISTY VANCAMPEN DOES SHOW HEART IN EVERYTHING SHE DOES, WE COULD NOT DO WHAT WE DO IN CROWLEY ISD, ESPECIALLY DURING THIS TIME WITHOUT HER AND THAT PHENOMENAL HEALTH SERVICES TEAM. YOU SAW SOME OF THEM TONIGHT.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR OUR WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER.

NURSE MISTY VANCAMPEN.

WAY TO GO. PRESIDENT HALL AND TRUSTEES.

I HATE THAT WE CAN'T BE THERE TOGETHER TO GIVE HER A HUG AND A HANDSHAKE AND HIGH FIVE.

BUT IT IS FUN TO WATCH THESE VIDEOS AND WATCH NURSE MISTY'S REACTION.

SHE'S WATCHING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME AS WELL.

SO, NURSE MISTY, ANY WORDS YOU HAVE FOR THE BOARD AND ADMINISTRATORS AND THE COMMUNITY ON THE ZOOM TONIGHT? THANK YOU, PRESIDENT HALL AND DR.

MCFARLAND AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD I'M VERY HUMBLED BY THIS AWARD BECAUSE I DO WHAT I DO, BECAUSE IT'S WHAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S.

IT'S OUR JOB AND AND I LOVE AND CARE ABOUT THESE STUDENTS LOVE AND CARE ABOUT CROWLEY.

AND, YOU KNOW, I JUST WANT TO THANK MY THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR AWESOME LEADERSHIP AND YOUR SUPPORT AND MY AWESOME TEAM THAT I HAVE THE HEALTH SERVICE TEAM AS WELL AS OUR WHOLE CISD FAMILY.

[00:20:01]

IT'S TRULY CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFIED, AND I'M HONORED TO BE A PART OF IT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. MS. VANCAMPEN ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD, I WANT TO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE TO CROWLEY ISD. I CAN RECALL WHEN COVID FIRST HIT AND IT WAS LIKE WE HAD OUR OWN VERY, VERY OWN DR.

[INAUDIBLE] HERE IN CISD, YOU ARE ALWAYS PREPARED FOR THOSE CALLS.

YOU ALWAYS HAD ANSWERS.

YOU ARE ALWAYS SO CALM AND COLLECTED.

AND IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE GETTING TO KNOW YOU AND ALSO WATCHING YOU WORK.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I CAN'T THINK OF ANYONE MORE BEFITTING THIS HONOR THAN YOU.

SO THANK YOU. IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING I CAN'T SEE YOUR FACES. ALL RIGHT, NURSE MISTY KNOW THAT WE ALL LOVE YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR RECEIVING THIS HONOR.

ALL RIGHT, THIS TAKES US TO OUR DISCUSSION ITEMS, AGENDA ITEM SIX POINT ONE, COVID-19

[6.0 Discussion Item (s)]

UPDATE, I GUESS YOU'RE GOING TO BE BACK AND REVIEW OF CONTACT TRACING PROCEDURES, DR.

MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE PRUDENT FOR US TO BRING FORWARD A CONVERSATION TONIGHT TO DISCUSS JUST COVID-19 IN GENERAL AND THE THE DEFINITION OF CLOSE CONTACT AND SOME OTHER THINGS THAT WE WANT TO REALLY HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH YOU ABOUT TONIGHT.

WE KNOW THAT BASED ON WHERE WE ARE AS A DISTRICT, WE MADE A DECISION TO GO ALL VIRTUAL THE NEXT TWO DAYS, ALL THE WAY THROUGH THANKSGIVING.

AND SO TONIGHT WE'LL JUST GIVE YOU AN UPDATE OF WHERE WE ARE AS A DISTRICT.

AND MR. KIRCHNER WILL REPORT AS WELL, WILL REPORT ON THIS ITEM ALONG WITH MS. VANCAMPEN. YES, THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND, PRESIDENT HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AS DR.

MCFARLAND SAID, AND AS YOU ALL KNOW, AND THANKS TO YOUR LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT, WE MADE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT THIS WEEK ON THIS NEXT SLIDE.

YOU'RE GOING TO SEE JUST A REMINDER OF OUR SCHEDULE FOR ALL VIRTUAL LEARNING.

THAT FIRST DAY WAS TODAY.

WE'LL HAVE VIRTUAL LEARNING TOMORROW AND NEXT MONDAY AND TUESDAY, AND THEN WE'LL GET A MUCH NEEDED THANKSGIVING BREAK FOR OUR STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS WHO'VE BEEN WORKING VERY, VERY HARD. AND THEN CAMPUSES WILL REOPEN FOR IN-PERSON LEARNING AND THEN VIRTUAL LEARNING FOR THE FAMILIES REMAINING THAT ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH.

LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT KIND OF SOME OF THE NUMBERS THAT CAUSED THAT DECISION.

THESE ARE TODAY'S NUMBERS AS OF THIS AFTERNOON.

AND ALL OF THESE CAN BE FOUND ON OUR COVID-19 DASHBOARD, ON OUR WEBSITE IS UPDATED DAILY.

WE ACTUALLY MODIFIED THAT DASHBOARD LAST WEEK WITH SOME NEW CATEGORIES.

THE FIRST SECTION YOU'RE GOING TO SEE HERE ARE OUR STAFF NUMBERS.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE THIRTY ONE STAFF MEMBERS WHO HAVE TESTED POSITIVE.

WE HAVE AN ADDITIONAL ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT WHO ARE QUARANTINED NOW.

THEY COULD BE QUARANTINED FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS.

THAT MEANS THEY WERE EITHER IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE AT SCHOOL OR THEY MAY HAVE BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A CLOSE CONTACT OF SOMEONE AT HOME OR SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.

AND THEN THEY'VE REPORTED TO US THAT THEY NEED TO QUARANTINE.

SO THAT MEANS WE CURRENTLY HAVE A TOTAL OF ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY NINE STAFF MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT AT WORK DUE TO COVID-19.

ON THE STUDENT SIDE, YOU'LL SEE THAT WE HAVE FORTY TWO POSITIVE STUDENTS CURRENTLY AND FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE WHO ARE QUARANTINED SO FOR A TOTAL OF FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE WHO ARE NOT IN SCHOOL DUE TO THE VIRUS.

THE GOOD NEWS IS WE DO ALSO TRACK OUR RECOVERIES AND YOU'LL SEE HERE ON THE SCREEN WE ARE CURRENTLY AT ONE HUNDRED TWENTY TWO PEOPLE WHO WERE ONCE DIAGNOSED WITH COVID WHO HAVE NOW RECOVERED AND ARE BACK AT WORK AND SCHOOL.

SO THAT'S REALLY, REALLY GREAT NEWS.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE THRESHOLD.

THEY KIND OF WE'VE BEEN USING AS OUR GUIDE AND HELPED US MAKE THE DECISION THIS WEEK TO GO ALL VIRTUAL. WE SET A THRESHOLD USING A RED, YELLOW, GREEN MATRIX WHERE IF 20 PERCENT OR MORE OF A STAFF AT A CAMPUS WAS EITHER POSITIVE OR QUARANTINED DUE TO THE VIRUS, THEY WOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS RED.

AND THEN YOU'LL SEE 10 TO 19 PERCENT THERE FOR YELLOW WATCH LISTS AND NINE PERCENT OR LESS THEY'D BE IN THE GREEN. AND AS YOU ALL KNOW, THIS WEEK WE HAD NUMEROUS CAMPUSES THAT WERE IN THAT RED OR APPROACHING THAT RED LEVEL, DR.

MCFARLAND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SAY ABOUT THAT? I THINK YOU COVERED IT. THANK YOU, SIR.

ALL RIGHT. ON THE NEXT SLIDE.

WE HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS, NURSE MS. IS HERE TO TELL US ABOUT RAPID TESTING THAT IS NOW AVAILABLE IN OUR SCHOOLS.

NURSE MISTY TELL US HOW THIS WORKS AND WHAT KIND OF RESULTS YOU'VE SEEN SO FAR.

SO THIS IS OUR TESTING FROM THAT'S BEEN THROUGH THE STATE.

AND IT IS THE ABBOTT COVID-19 AG CARD, WHICH IS A RAPID ANTIGEN TESTING.

AND IT IS THIS TESTING HAS IT PROVIDES RESULTS WITHIN 15 MINUTES AND IS VERY RELIABLE, HAS SHOWN TO BE HIGHLY ACCURATE WITH ACCURACY RATE OF NINETY SEVEN TO NINETY EIGHT PERCENT WHEN THE INDIVIDUALS ARE SYMPTOMATIC.

SO IT JUST REQUIRES A IT IS A NASAL SWAB STILL.

[00:25:06]

AND JUST IN THE FRONT THOUGH, IT'S NOT THE ONE THAT GOES TO THE BRAIN.

PEOPLE LIKE TO SAY, BUT IT REQUIRES JUST A GENTLE NASAL SWAB AND WE HAVE THOSE RESULTS IN RECORD TIME RIGHT THERE.

SO WE'RE ABLE TO IF SOMEONE IS HAVING A HEADACHE, MAYBE THEY THINK IT'S ALLERGIES WE'RE ABLE TO TEST THEM AND THEY MAYBE MAY RETURN TO WORK IF THEY'RE NOT HAVING SYMPTOMS, SUCH AS LOSING THEIR TASTE AND SMELL OR COUGHING OR HAVE A HORRIBLE COUGH OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. OF COURSE, WE STILL GO ON THAT SYMPTOM AND ASSESSMENT, BUT THEY'RE ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK. AND RIGHT NOW WE'VE BEEN TESTING OUR SYMPTOMATIC INDIVIDUALS, OUR SYMPTOMATIC STAFF. FOR THE MOST PART.

WE HAVE HAD A WE'VE HAD FIVE OF OUR TESTS COME BACK POSITIVE.

WE'VE CONDUCTED CLOSE TO 50 TESTS.

SO FAR. OK, I KNOW, I KNOW NURSE MISTY AND THE TEAM WORKED REALLY HARD WITH THE STATE TO GET THOSE RAPID TESTS HERE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

AND SO IT'S GREAT TO HAVE THEM IN OUR SCHOOLS AND KNOW THAT WE'RE ALREADY USING THEM AND GETTING THE RESULTS WE NEED FROM THEM.

SO OUR NEXT TOPIC IS CONTACT TRACING AND HOW THAT WORKS.

THERE'S BEEN SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT HERE ON THE SCREEN.

YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE DEFINITION FOR WHAT IS A CLOSE CONTACT.

AND THIS IS THE DEFINITION PROVIDED BY THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND TARRANT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH. IT'S SOMEONE WHO WAS WITHIN SIX FEET OF AN INFECTED PERSON FOR A CUMULATIVE TOTAL OF 15 MINUTES OR MORE, OVER A TWENTY FOUR HOUR PERIOD.

AND AS YOU SEE THERE, STARTING FROM TWO DAYS BEFORE THE ILLNESS ONSET AND UNTIL THE TIME THAT THE PATIENT IS ISOLATED.

NOW, WE ALSO WANT TO SHOW YOU A MODIFIED DEFINITION THAT THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY IS USING AND OTHER DISTRICTS ARE STARTING TO IMPLEMENT IS THE SAME CRITERIA AS ABOVE.

BUT IT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT ADDITIONAL FACTORS LIKE MASKING, WERE THE INFECTED INDIVIDUAL AND OTHER POTENTIAL CLOSE CONTACT, WERE THEY WEARING MASKS.

WAS THERE VENTILATION IN THE ROOM, OR WAS IT OUTSIDE WHERE THE CONTACT OCCURRED, THE PRESENCE OF DIVIDERS, THE SYMPTOMS, OR IF THEY WERE DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO INFECTIOUS SECRETIONS LIKE BEING COUGHED ON.

SO THAT IS A MODIFIED DEFINITION THAT WE ARE WORKING ON AND LOOKING AT.

AND WE'LL BE TAKING TO ACCOUNT AS WE LOOK AT OUR CLOSE CONTACTS, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT WE IN CROWLEY ISD WITH OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF ARE DOING A GREAT JOB WEARING THOSE MASKS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF DIVIDERS IN PLACE.

AND SO THAT IS SOMETHING WE ARE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT AS WE CONTACT TRACE.

DR. MCFARLAND. YES, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE WANTED TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU TONIGHT, AND WE'LL BE HAVING ADDITIONAL CONVERSATIONS AND WILL LIKELY BE MEETING NEXT WEEK WITH STAFF, BOTH ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY STAFF.

BEFORE WE LEAVE, JUST KIND OF REVIEW SOME PROTOCOLS AND SHARE HOW WE WILL BE MOVING FORWARD ONCE WE RETURN FROM THE BREAK.

BUT WE WANT TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU TONIGHT AND REALLY TO SEE IF THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS AT THIS POINT.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND AND MR. KIRCHNER AND ALSO NURSE VANCAMPEN ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD REGARDING THE COVID-19 UPDATE? YEAH, I HAVE JUST ONE.

SO I KNOW I PRESUME THAT IF THE STUDENTS ARE.

ARE JUST CLOSE CONTACTS AND ASYMPTOMATIC THAT WHEN THEY THEY'RE SENT HOME FOR, YOU KNOW, FOR I GUESS A TWO WEEK PERIOD, THEY'RE STILL EXPECTED TO TO ATTEND VIRTUALLY OR.

OK, AND THEN WHAT ABOUT THE STAFF, IF THEY'RE SENT HOME FOR THAT TWO WEEK PERIOD, ARE THEY BUT THEY'RE ASYMPTOMATIC, ARE THEY ALSO WORKING VIRTUALLY OR ARE THEY HOW'S THAT WORKING? YES, THEY ARE STILL ABLE AND IF THERE ARE NO SYMPTOMS AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO WORK VIRTUALLY TO DELIVER INSTRUCTION FROM WHERE THEY ARE.

YES. AND WHAT DO WE DO IF THEY'RE IN A PHYSICAL CLASSROOM, SO IN THAT CASE, DO WE HAVE LIKE A SUBSTITUTE THERE TO SUPERVISE BASICALLY AND THEN THE TEACHERS VIRTUALLY INSTRUCTING THE KIDS WHO ARE OR HOW DOES THAT WORK? YEAH, IT'S A COMBINATION OF THAT WE HAVE, BUT WE DO HAVE A SUB IN THE CLASS, THE TEACHER IS STILL PREPARING THE LESSON AND ALL THAT.

AND SO THE SUB AND THE TEACHER ARE KIND OF WORKING TOGETHER TO DELIVER THAT INSTRUCTION.

OK. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU, MR. RAY, ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? QUESTION. I THINK THAT'S MR. GRASSIA, GO AHEAD. YES, I GUESS IT'S FOR A MS. VANCAMPEN. FROM YOUR EXPERTIZE, WOULD YOU CONSIDER THE 14 DAYS

[00:30:10]

FROM WHEN THE TEST WAS RECEIVED? OR FROM WHEN THE TEST RESULTS COME BACK.

YOU'RE ASKING ABOUT THE QUARANTINE OR FOR THE PERSON THAT IS POSITIVE OR.

THE QUARANTINE YES MA'AM.

FOR QUARANTINE, IT'S THE LAST EXPOSURE TO THE POSITIVE PERSON.

SO IT'S 14 DAYS FROM 14 DAYS FROM THE LAST EXPOSURE TO THAT POSITIVE PERSON.

SO IF YOU HAD SOMEONE WHO WAS THERE MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND THEY WERE OUT ON WEDNESDAY AND WE DETERMINED THEY WERE POSITIVE AND LET'S SAY THEY BECAME SYMPTOMATIC ON WEDNESDAY, THEN YOU WOULD QUARANTINE THOSE THAT WERE IN CLOSE CONTACT MONDAY AND TUESDAY AND THAT QUARANTINE WOULD START FOR THEM WHICHEVER DAY THEY WERE AROUND THEM.

SO IT CHANGES FOR DIFFERENT.

FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE IN HIGH SCHOOL OR AT THE CTE GOING TO CLASSES ON DIFFERENT DAYS, YOUR EXPOSURE DAY MAY HAVE BEEN MONDAY OR YOUR EXPOSURE DAY WAS TUESDAY.

IT JUST DEPENDS. BUT WE GO FROM THE DATE OF EXPOSURE.

THAT'S DAY ZERO.

DAY ONE STARTS THE NEXT DAY, 14 DAYS.

AND THEN ON DAY 15, YOU MAY RETURN.

AWESOME. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

YOU'RE WELCOME. THANK YOU, MR. GRASSIA. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? OK, THANK YOU.

WE'LL MOVE TO OUR AGENDA ITEM 6.2 PANDEMIC LATE WORK GRADING POLICY, DR.

MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS RELATIVE TO GRADING AND GRADING GUIDELINES AND THE, YOU KNOW, THE NEW VARIABLES THAT HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED AS RELATES TO THE PANDEMIC.

AND SO WHAT I ASK TONIGHT IS FOR OUR TEAM TO PREPARE FOR YOU ALL JUST AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT OUR CURRENT GRADING POLICY IS.

AND THEN I LIKE TO OPEN IT UP FOR ANY DISCUSSIONS, CONCERNS OR AREAS WHERE YOU LIKE US TO INVESTIGATE EVEN FURTHER.

WE ARE OPEN TO THAT TONIGHT.

MR. KEITH WILL REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

GOOD EVENING PRESIDENT HALL AND BOARD MEMBERS.

SO IN THE EXHIBIT TONIGHT IN IN ESB THERE IS A GRADE DISTRIBUTION RATE PRESENTATION THAT YOU CAN TAKE A LOOK AT FOR CONTEXT TO THIS CONVERSATION IN TERMS OF FAILURES IN GRADE DISTRIBUTION FOR THE FIRST MARKING PERIOD WHICH ENDED ON OCTOBER 16TH, THE NUMBER, OF COURSE, FAILURES BASED ON GRADE LEVEL HAS INCREASED ANYWHERE FROM TWO PERCENT TO 15 PERCENT. DEPENDING ON THE GRADE LEVEL.

IT AVERAGES A CHANGE OF ABOUT FIVE TO SIX PERCENT.

SO THAT SAID, SOME OF THE CONTEXT FOR WHY WE'RE HAVING OUR GRADING GUIDELINES DISCUSSION THIS EVENING SO WE CAN GO AHEAD AND GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

JUST LIKE TO TAKE A QUICK LOOK AT SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ELEMENTARY AND THE SECONDARY GRADING GUIDELINES AND THEN TAKE A LOOK AT LATE WORK POLICIES AND THEN SPECIFICALLY AS THEY APPLY TO SECONDARY.

SO JUST A FEW HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ELEMENTARY SIDE.

WE TAKE DAILY AND TEST GRADES AND THOSE ARE AVERAGED TOGETHER TO FIND A STUDENT SIX WEEKS AVERAGE. SO DAILY AND TEST GRADES RECEIVED THE SAME WEIGHT AT ELEMENTARY.

WE SET A MINIMUM NUMBER OF GRADES TO BE TAKEN PER CONTENT AREA.

SO IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, THAT'S 12 PER MARKING PERIOD IN MATH AT 10 AND IN SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES AT SIX EACH.

AND THEN STUDENTS DO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CORRECT FAILING ASSIGNMENTS OR A TEST AFTER THEY GO THROUGH A RETEACH PROCESS WITH THEIR TEACHER FOR UP TO A 70.

NOW, ON THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU'LL SEE HIGHLIGHTS OF SECONDARY.

AND SO AT THE TOP YOU'LL SEE IN SECONDARY DAILY ASSIGNMENTS COUNT FOR 50 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL SIX WEEKS GRADE AND ASSESSMENTS OR MAJOR GRADES.

THEY ACCOUNT FOR THE OTHER 50 PERCENT.

SO A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT FROM ELEMENTARY.

THERE'S STILL A MINIMUM NUMBER OF GRADES TO BE TAKEN PER CONTENT AREA.

SO THAT'S EIGHT DAILY AND TWO ASSESSMENTS FOR ALL SUBJECTS.

AND THEN THE SAME POLICY APPLIES FOR FAILING ASSIGNMENTS OR RETESTING AFTER RETEACH FOR UP TO A 70.

SO WHEN WE LOOK AT LATE WORK POLICIES IN OUR GRADING GUIDELINES IT STATES THAT CAMPUS WORK POLICIES MUST ALIGN WITH OUR DISTRICT PHILOSOPHY OF GRADING, THIS IS LAID OUT IN BOARD POLICY AND ALSO IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK, IN THE SECTION ON GRADING GUIDELINES.

AND THEN PENALTIES FOR LATE WORK ARE ASSIGNED, ACCORDING TO THE CAMPUS LATE WORK POLICY, SPECIFICALLY FOR SECONDARY.

WE PROVIDED SOME GUIDANCE ON LATE WORK WHERE ASSIGNMENTS THAT ARE LATE ONE SCHOOL DAY WILL BE REDUCED BY 10 PERCENT AND THEN LATE ASSIGNMENTS ANY DAY THEREAFTER WILL BE REDUCED UP TO 50 PERCENT AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CAMPUS GRADING POLICY AND THE TEACHER WITHIN THAT

[00:35:02]

SIX WEEKS GRADING PERIOD.

AND THEN, BASED ON OUR GUIDELINES, THE TEACHER SETS THE FINAL CUTOFF DATE FOR LATE WORK WITHIN CAMPUS AND DISTRICT GUIDELINES.

SO THAT'S AN OVERVIEW OF OUR GRADING GUIDELINES.

AND DR. MCFARLAND, I'LL TURN IT BACK OVER TO YOU FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION.

ALL RIGHT. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, WE HAVE JUST PRESENTED THE GRADING GUIDELINES OPEN FOR ANY KIND OF CONVERSATION QUESTION OR AS RELATES TO THE CURRENT GRADING POLICY AND GRADING PRACTICE. THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? YES, I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING THE LATE WORK POLICY, YES, MISS ROBINSON.

OK, SO MY CONCERN IS THE UP TO 50 PERCENT.

I BELIEVE THAT'S PUNITIVE AND EXCESSIVE.

AND SO I WANTED TO KNOW WHY WAS 50 PERCENT CHOSEN AS THE THRESHOLD? OR MAXIMUM.

SO THAT HAS BEEN THAT HAS BEEN THE THRESHOLD FOR OUR GRADING GUIDELINES PRIOR TO COVID AND IN YEARS PAST, BUT I CAN DO SOME RESEARCH AND FIND OUT WHY THAT WAS CHOSEN AS THE THRESHOLD. SO MY CONCERN IS THAT STUDENTS WHO MAY TURN IN WORK REGARDLESS OF REASON, ONCE YOU TURN IN WORK AND YOU HAVE 50 POINTS AUTOMATICALLY DEDUCTED, DEPENDING ON HOW MANY DAYS LATE, THERE'S NO REAL INCENTIVE TO SUBMIT THE WORK BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO FAIL REGARDLESS. AND SO AS A SCHOOL SYSTEM, I WOULD THINK THAT WE WOULD WANT TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO AT LEAST PROVIDE SOME MOTIVATION RATHER THAN FOR THE PUNITIVE STANDARD IN FRONT OF THEM THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE.

NOT ALL TEACHERS ENFORCE IT, BUT IF THEY DO, I JUST FEEL LIKE WE CAN SET A STANDARD, BUT MAYBE LOWER THAN 50 PERCENT.

SO TRUSTEE ROBINSON, WE CAN TAKE THIS TO OUR TO OUR INTERNAL GRADING COMMITTEE AND HAVE SOME CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ABOUT THAT.

KEITH, CAN YOU READ THROUGH THAT SECTION SPECIFICALLY THAT DEALS WITH THE LATE WORK AND PERCENTAGES OF GRADES? CAN YOU READ THAT AGAIN JUST TO MAKE SURE WE'RE CLEAR ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS? ABSOLUTELY PULLING UP RIGHT NOW IN THE ACTUAL POLICY, SO IN THE GRADING GUIDELINES, THIS IS PAGE 68 IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK, THE FIRST BULLET UNDER SECONDARY LATE WORK POLICIES SAYS THAT ASSIGNMENTS LATE ONE SCHOOL DAY WILL BE REDUCED BY 10 PERCENT. AND THEN THE SECOND BULLET SAYS LATE ASSIGNMENT'S ANY DAY THEREAFTER WILL BE REDUCED UP TO 50 PERCENT WITHIN A SIX WEEK SCREENING PERIOD, EACH CAMPUS MAY DETERMINE DEPARTMENTAL GUIDELINES FOR SPECIFIC PENALTY POINTS TO BE ASSIGNED.

CAN I ASK A FOLLOW UP QUESTION, AND AFTER READING THAT ABOUT THREE SLIDES AGO, THERE WAS SOME DISCUSSION ABOUT STUDENTS BEING ABLE TO RETAKE OR COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS, IS 70 PERCENT TO CORRECT FAILING ASSIGNMENTS? DOES THAT APPLY TO THE LATE WORK POLICY OR IS THAT JUST IF YOU SUBMIT IT ON TIME AND FAIL? DOES THAT MAKES SENSE? SO THE WAY THE POLICY IS CURRENTLY, THE WAY THE GUIDELINES ARE CURRENTLY WRITTEN, IT WOULD APPLY TO WORK THAT IS TURNED IN ON TIME.

BUT CAMPUSES HAVE DISCRETION WITH THE LATE WORK POLICY SO THEY COULD MAKE ADJUSTMENTS FOR WORK THAT WAS SUBMITTED LATE TO BE MADE UP AND CORRECTED.

SO AND AND I'M NOT TRYING TO PLAY DEVIL'S ADVOCATE, BUT I KIND OF CONCUR WITH MS. ROBINSON. AND THAT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE I'M AN EDUCATOR, RIGHT? I FEEL LIKE THE POLICY AS IT STANDS IN THIS ASPECT ON THIS SLIDE, IT SEEMS LIKE WE'RE LOOKING WE'RE GIVING ATTENTION TO THE IMPORTANCE OF MASTERY.

AND IT SEEMS LIKE TWO SLIDES LATER, WE'RE MORE CONCERNED WITH COMPLIANCE.

AND SO I WOULD YOU KNOW, AS YOU TAKE THIS BACK TO THE COMMITTEE OR ADDRESS IT, I JUST AND THEN I ALSO UNDERSTAND BEING I HAVEN'T BEEN SO FAR REMOVED FROM THE CLASSROOM, WHAT IT'S LIKE TO CONTINUE TO GET ASSIGNMENTS LATE AND THE BURDEN THAT THAT CREATES AND KEEPING UP WITH ALL OF THAT FOR OUR TEACHERS.

SO I AND I KNOW THAT WE'RE ALL STRESSED AND PULLED VERY THIN, BUT I DO FEEL LIKE THERE SHOULD BE SOME CONSIDERATION WITH REGARDS TO THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING, BECAUSE ALL OF THE ASSIGNMENTS, I FEEL LIKE, ARE BECAUSE WE WANT STUDENTS TO MASTER A CONCEPT.

AND IF THERE'S NO MOTIVATION TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT AND IF THE STUDENT IS GOING TO FAIL REGARDLESS, I FEEL LIKE WE MISS AN OPPORTUNITY.

AND I JUST FEEL LIKE IT'S I JUST FEEL LIKE IT'S A MISSED OPPORTUNITY.

[00:40:05]

SO THAT'S ENOUGH ABOUT THAT.

THIS IS MORE YOUR LANE THAN MY LANE ANYWAY IN THIS REGARD.

BUT YES, I DO APPRECIATE THE HEARING ABOUT THIS.

BUT I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO BRING ALSO HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE COVID ENVIRONMENT THAT WE'RE IN. IT IS FEEL LIKE THERE'S SO MANY EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES ON BOTH SIDES, NOT JUST FOR OUR STUDENTS, BUT ALSO FOR OUR TEACHERS.

AND WE'VE GOT GRANDPARENTS.

I HAD ONE CALL ME THE OTHER DAY TALKING TO ME ABOUT LATE WORK AND ASSIGNMENTS AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE AS WELL, NOT KNOWING SPECIFICALLY THE GRADING GUIDELINES.

BUT I NOW SEE IT A LITTLE BIT CLEARER AND MAYBE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS? THANK YOU ALL FOR HUMORING A ME AND LETTING ME INTERRUPT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? YES.

GO AHEAD, LYNDSAE. I JUST WAS GOING TO CHIME IN THAT THAT I DO THINK THE WAY THOSE GRADING GUIDELINES ARE WRITTEN, THAT WHEN IT'S A DAY LATE, IT'S 10 PERCENT.

SO THERE'S STILL A. I MEAN, YOU CAN GET A 90 RIGHT FOR TURNING IT IN LATE, BUT STILL GETTING IT IN, AND THEN AFTER THAT IT'S UP TO 50 PERCENT.

SO IT SOUNDS LIKE IT DOESN'T EVER TURN INTO A ZERO.

SO A STUDENT ALWAYS HAS A CHANCE TO TURN IT IN, IF I'M UNDERSTANDING THAT CORRECTLY.

SO I REALIZE IT'S A HARSH PENALTY TO GO DOWN UP TO A 50 PERCENT UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE IS SOME CAMPUS DISCRETION.

AND I JUST WANTED TO WEIGH IN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT ARGUMENT A LITTLE BIT, BECAUSE I THINK THERE IS DEFINITELY SOME.

THERE ARE SOME OPPORTUNITIES GIVEN WITHIN THAT CURRENT GRADING POLICY FOR STUDENTS TO MAKE A GOOD CHOICE WITHIN, YOU KNOW, WITHIN A GOOD TIME WINDOW.

SO ANYWAY, JUST CHIMING IN ON THAT.

THANK YOU, MISS BENTON. MR. RAY. YEAH.

SO I GUESS FIRST TALKING ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR THING, THAT ISSUE IS SOMETHING THAT I.

I'VE BROUGHT UP BEFORE AS WELL, I DON'T KNOW HOW EXTENSIVE OR PERVASIVE, YOU KNOW, IT IS, AND IT PROBABLY, YOU KNOW, I DOUBT THERE'S ANY KIND OF STATISTICS THAT ARE READILY AVAILABLE ON WHAT PERCENTAGE OF ASSIGNMENTS ARE TURNED IN LATE OR ANYTHING WITHOUT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF WORK.

BUT, YOU KNOW, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IT'S CONSISTENTLY AN ISSUE AND THAT I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE'S A BALANCING ACT.

RIGHT, BECAUSE THE TEACHERS HAVE TO HAVE, YOU KNOW.

THERE HAS TO BE INCENTIVE FOR STUDENTS TO TURN THEIR WORK IN ON TIME, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, AND I KNOW I TALKED TO DR.

MCFARLAND ABOUT THIS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, I WENT TO AND I GOT TO TRY AND FIND TO FIND THE INFORMATION ON IT NOW.

BUT I WENT TO I THINK IT WAS NSBA A TALK ABOUT AND THEY TALK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THIS ISSUE. AND SPECIFICALLY IT WAS IN CONTEXT OF BASICALLY, YOU KNOW, TURNING AROUND DISTRICTS IN THAT FACE, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF CHALLENGES AND OTHER STUFF.

BUT, YOU KNOW, JUST THE WHOLE IDEA THAT A LOT OF TIMES THESE GRADING POLICIES ARE JUST ALMOST PUNITIVE.

AND, YOU KNOW. I THINK WE'D BE DOING OUR STUDENTS.

I DON'T KNOW, I MEAN, I UNDERSTAND IT'S TEACHER BY TEACHER, AND SO FOR THE MOST PART, IT'S NOT UP TO 50 PERCENT.

THAT SEEMS EXCESSIVE TO ME.

I JUST I THINK IT IMPACTS IT DRAMATICALLY IMPACTS A LOT OF STUDENTS GRADES AND CERTAINLY MORE SO NOW.

AND I THINK YOU CAN SEE THAT CLEARLY.

AND JUST SO GOING BACK TO SCHOOL, THAT'S JUST MY OVERALL THOUGHTS FOR WHAT THEY ARE ON THAT PARTICULAR SUBJECT.

BUT GOING BACK TO THE THE SLIDES PRESENTED AND THE THE BY GRADE LEVEL, I MEAN, SO YOU SAID IT WAS A TWO PERCENT TO, YOU KNOW, UP TO 15 PERCENT INCREASE, BUT.

AND THAT'S CORRECT, BUT I MEAN, I GUESS THAT'S YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT DATA, YOU KNOW, SO YOU'RE LOOKING AT BASICALLY BETWEEN A DOUBLING AND A QUADRUPLING OF THE NUMBER OF FAILURES AT EACH GRADE LEVEL.

SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT LIKE WHEN YOU FIRST SAID TWO TO FIVE PERCENT INCREASE I WAS THINKING OH THAT'S NOT BAD.

YOU KNOW, THINKING IT WAS, YOU KNOW UP.

BUT IT'S WHEN YOU GO FROM ONE POINT SEVEN TO OR THREE POINT SIX IN THE FIRST GRADE AND THEN, YOU KNOW, AND THEN FROM SEVEN TO TWENTY TWO PERCENT IN THE NINTH GRADE, THE EVERY GRADE AGAIN, YOU'RE SEEING A DOUBLING OR TRIPLING OF THE THE FAILURE RATE.

[00:45:02]

AND SO I GUESS IT'S THERE ARE A LOT OF CHALLENGES HERE, AND I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT WE'VE GOT TO FIND SOME WAY, YOU KNOW, LIKE I KNOW WITH MY KIDS, MY OLDER TWO, I MEAN, MY LITTLE ONES DOING FINE AT THE THIRD GRADE, ISN'T HAVING ANY REAL ISSUES.

BUT THE OLDER TWO THE YOU KNOW, I KNOW THE MULTIPLE TIMES, YOU KNOW, THEY THEY SWEAR THEY TURNED SOMETHING IN AND, YOU KNOW, I DON'T ALWAYS TRUST THEM, BUT THEY GO AND LOOK AT IT.

AND WITH GOOGLE CLASSROOM MAY HAVE TURNED IT IN, BUT IT ENDS UP LIKE BEING THEY SAY THAT THEY DIDN'T SAVE THE WORK AND, YOU KNOW, THEN IT ENDS UP AS A BLANK ASSIGNMENT AND THEN THEY HAVE TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN AND RESUBMIT IT OR SAVE IT AS A, YOU KNOW, PDF OR SOMETHING AND THEN SUBMIT IT.

AND I YOU KNOW, I THINK THERE ARE TECHNICAL ISSUES THAT I HOPE ARE BEING ACCOUNTED FOR AND THAT, YOU KNOW, THE STUDENTS AND WHICH I GUESS WAS REALLY CONCERNING FROM THAT DATA IS REALLY MORE THAT THE NINTH GRADERS AND I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THAT I MEAN, THAT'S A REALLY HIGH FAILURE RATE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, YOU KNOW, AND THAT WITH THE FRESHMEN BEING THE WORST. AND I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THAT'S A.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT ACCOUNTS FOR THAT, BUT.

I GUESS I'VE SAID A FEW THINGS, BUT I THINK WE DEFINITELY NEED TO RECONSIDER, YOU KNOW, EXACTLY HOW THAT GRADING POLICY IS IMPLEMENTED IN THIS VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.

BUT AND THEN ALSO SPECIFICALLY LOOK AT WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE NINTH GRADE AND THE HIGH SCHOOL. IT'S ALL HIGH, BUT.

TO TO LEAD TO TWENTY TWO PERCENT FAILURE RATE VERSUS, YOU KNOW, SEVEN PERCENT LAST YEAR AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO REMEDIATE THAT.

BUT I PRESUME THAT PEOPLE ARE ALREADY LOOKING AT THESE THINGS, BUT.

MR. RAY TO YOUR POINT ABOUT THE NINTH GRADE PERCENTAGE THAT IS ALMOST DIRECTLY FROM OUR ENGLISH ONE COURSES, AND WE HAVE A LASER FOCUS ON WHAT CAN WE DO TO IMPROVE THAT, ESPECIALLY FOR LEARNING IN DISTANCE IN THAT COURSE.

SO YOU'RE ONE HUNDRED PERCENT SPOT ON TO NOTICE THAT SPIKE.

WE DID ALSO. AND SO WE'RE REALLY TARGETING THAT AREA.

OK, ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? MS. HALL, I DO HAVE A QUESTION IS ABOUT THE RETEACH.

COULD YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, MR. KEITH? ABSOLUTELY.

YES, I'M SORRY.

SO IF A STUDENT DOESN'T DEMONSTRATE MASTERY OF A CONCEPT, THEN THE TEACHER BUILDS IN TIME TO WORK WITH THAT STUDENT AND RETEACH WHAT THEY MISSED.

SOMETIMES THAT MAY BE A WHOLE CLASS RETEACH IF A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE CLASS DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT CONCEPT.

AND IT REALLY WILL VARY DEPENDING ON THE CONCEPT, HOW MANY TIMES IT'S RETAUGHT, HOW LONG IT'S RETAUGHT FOR.

AND THEN AFTER THAT, AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, THE WORDING IN THE GRADING GUIDELINES IS SPECIFICALLY THAT A STUDENT MUST INITIATE A REQUEST TO RETEST OR TO TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT AFTER THAT RETEACH HAS TAKEN PLACE.

BUT THAT'S BUILT INTO EVERYTHING THAT WE DO.

OUR CURRICULUM CONSTANTLY SPIRALS.

WE'RE CONSTANTLY IDENTIFYING CONCEPTS THAT STUDENTS ARE STRUGGLING WITH AND MAKING SURE THOSE ARE WORKED BACK INTO NOT ONLY INSTRUCTION IN THE CLASSROOM, BUT ALSO FOR THAT INTERVENTION TIME WE BUILD IN.

OK, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, MISS DAVIS, ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD.

OR CONCERNS? OR COMMENT? OK, WELL, WITH THAT SAID, I DO WANT TO THANK YOU, MR. KEITH AND DR.

MCFARLAND, FOR BRINGING BEFORE US AND NOT ONLY THIS AGENDA ITEM, BUT ALSO THE PREVIOUS AGENDA ITEM, JUST FOR YOUR PROACTIVITY, FOR ADDRESSING, YOU KNOW, ALL THAT HAS GONE WITH COVID AS WELL AS ACADEMIC AS WELL AS OUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS.

AND WITH THAT. SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.

AND I HOPE THAT YOU'LL CONSIDER ALL OF THE COMMENTS THAT WERE SHARED TONIGHT.

YES, MA'AM. MADAM PRESIDENT, WE WILL HAVE A TEAM.

I THINK WE CAPTURED MANY OF THE MANY OF THE CONCERNS.

AND SO WE'LL HAVE A TEAM THAT WILL BEGIN TO LOOK DEEPLY AT OUR GRADING POLICY.

I BELIEVE I HEARD THE DESIRE TO TO REALLY REVIEW THIS GRADING POLICY, TO MAKE SURE IT STILL WORKS FOR US IN A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT AND POSSIBLY MAKING A GRADING POLICY FOR VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT AND BEING ONE FOR A [INAUDIBLE]ENVIRONMENT.

WE'LL HAVE A WE'LL HAVE OUR TEAM GET TOGETHER AND WE'LL BRING IT BACK TO THE BOARD TEAM AND FOR CONSIDERATION IN THE FUTURE BOARD MEETING.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND. IT WOULD JUST BE NICE EVEN THOUGH IF YOU CAN BRING INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT IS THE RESEARCH BEHIND GRADING POLICIES, WHERE ARE WE TRENDING

[00:50:01]

AS PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS OR JUST SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN GENERAL ABOUT LATE WORK? I KNOW [INAUDIBLE] I'M NOT IN THE CLASSROOM ANYMORE, BUT I KNOW THERE'S TIMES WHEN, YOU KNOW, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE PRACTICE AND IT'S NOT.

AND IT'S 10 PERCENT, YOU KNOW, THERE'S ALL THESE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT.

SO I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THAT.

ALL RIGHT. WE'LL DO IT IN A FUTURE MEETING FOR SURE.

AND WITH THAT, THEN WE WILL MOVE TO OUR REPORT ITEMS.

[7.0 Report Item(s)]

WHICH BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM SEVEN POINT ONE EQUITY QUARTERLY REVIEW REPORT.

DR. MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, THE BOARD, YOU KNOW, YOU ALL HAVE BEEN REALLY CLEAR AS RELATES TO EQUITY AND REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT EQUITY IS AT THE CENTER AND CENTRAL TO OUR WORK.

AND SO WE ARE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING THIS QUARTERLY REVIEW REPORT BACK TO YOU.

AS YOU KNOW, SEVERAL YEARS AGO, WE CONDUCTED AN EQUITY AUDIT.

WE HAVE THREE YEARS WORTH OF DATA, BUT NOW WE'RE ALSO MONITORING EVERY QUARTER.

AND SO THIS MS. INAUDIBLE] WILL PRESENT THE FIRST QUARTERLY REPORT.

AGAIN, WE'VE IDENTIFIED SOME AREAS WE WANT TO FOCUS ON THIS TIME.

NEXT QUARTER WILL IDENTIFY SOME OTHERS.

AND AGAIN, OUR PLAN IS TO MONITOR THE EQUITY EQUITY REPORT ON A REGULAR BASIS OF WHERE WE ARE AT ALL TIMES.

MS. [INAUDIBLE]. THANK YOU.

GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT HALL, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT DR. MCFARLAND.

AS DR. MCFARLAND STATED THIS EVENING I WILL BE PRESENTING THE EQUITY QUARTERLY REVIEW THAT ALIGNS TO OUR DISTRICT GOAL THAT OF THRIVING STUDENTS.

TO BEGIN THE PRESENTATION, I WOULD LIKE TO TAP INTO OUR PRIOR KNOWLEDGE AS WE HAD SOME OTHER PRESENTATIONS ABOUT OUR EQUITY INITIATIVES THIS YEAR, AS YOU RECALL, AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, DR. MCFARLAND TASKED THE DISTRICT EQUITY ACTION TEAM TO RUN A THREE YEAR TREND REPORT ON THE VERY SAME PROGRAMS THAT WERE EVALUATED IN THE 2018 EQUITY AUDIT. THE CHARGE WAS FOR US TO QUANTIFY CURRENT TRENDS IN PROGRAMMATIC EXPOSURE AND EXPERIENCE FOR ALL SUBPOPULATIONS OF STUDENTS AND TO SEEK TO BRIDGE THE GROWTH DISPARITIES, DISPARITIES BEING THE GAPS THAT EMERGE FROM THE THAT EMERGED FROM THE EVALUATION, THE PROGRAMS REVIEWED, WHERE THOSE OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS, THOSE THAT ARE LISTED ON THE LISTED ON THE LEFT SIDE AND THE OTHER PROGRAMS THAT WERE LISTED THAT ARE LISTED ON THE RIGHT SIDE, THE OVERARCHING STATEMENTS THAT CARRIED OVER FROM THE 2018 AUDIT TO THAT OF THE THREE YEAR REPORT INDICATED AT THE BOTTOM THAT THERE CONTINUE TO BE ONE IN OVERREPRESENTATION OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS IN DISCIPLINARY SITUATIONS, AND TWO AN UNDERREPRESENTATION OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN ADVANCED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. SO LET US TAKE A LOOK AT THE RECURRING THEMES I PRODUCED THIS SLIDE SO THAT WE CAN SEE HOW IN THE THREE YEAR TREND REPORT HERE, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE PROGRAMS ONCE AGAIN LISTED ON THE LEFT THAT WERE EVALUATED INTO THE RIGHT.

I LABELED THEM IN COLOR SO THAT WE COULD SEE VERTICALLY WHERE THE THREE CELL POPULATION GROUPS THAT EMERGED AS THE TOP THREE AREAS OF DISPARITIES.

THE COLOR CODING VERTICALLY REALLY, I THINK RESONATES FOR US WHAT THE CONCERN IS AND ONCE AGAIN SUBSTANTIATES THE SAME RECURRING THEME THAT WE NOTED THAT OF THE OVERARCHING THEMES. SO LET US MOVE ON AND BEGIN WITH GIFTED AND TALENTED.

WE HAVE GOOD NEWS AS WE MOVE INTO THIS, IT IS AMAZING WHAT WE ARE ABLE TO DO WITH FOCUSED AND INTENTIONAL EFFORTS AS WE WORK ON THE WORK.

THE NEXT FEW SLIDES THAT I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE NOW, WILL SPEAK TO THAT COLLECTIVE EFFORT FROM THE CAMPUS TO THE DISTRICT, ALONGSIDE THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS AND FAMILIES THAT ARE HELPING US TO BRIDGE THESE DISPARITIES AS WE ARE INTENTIONAL ABOUT OUR EFFORTS.

I'M HONORED THAT I HAVE WORKED WITH THESE INDIVIDUALS AND WE HAVE SEEN GROWTH IN ALL OF THE AREAS. SO IN BEGINNING WITH GIFTED AND TALENTED, EVERY SLIDE I PRESENT WILL SHARE A GENERAL REPORT AT THE TOP TO BE CLEAR, AND IT WILL GIVE US THE TOTAL GROWTH IN THE RESPECTIVE PROGRAM.

I DECIDED TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT THROUGH THE LENS OF GROWTH IN A PROGRAM IF WE WERE NOT LOOKING AT IT THROUGH THE LENS OF EQUITY.

SO UNDERNEATH THAT, YOU WILL THEN SEE THE GROWTH IN THE GOALS.

SO WE WANT TO CELEBRATE GROWTH IN TOTALITY, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE TIME THAT WE'RE IN IN THE PANDEMIC. WE HAVE HAD SOME GROWTH IN ALL AREAS.

LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT WE'VE DONE IN THOSE AREAS OF PERTAINING TO THE EQUITY GOALS.

SO IN GIFTED AND TALENTED, IN THE GENERAL REPORT, THERE HAVE BEEN ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN QUALIFIED IN PROGRAM THIS YEAR.

SO THOSE ARE FROM OUR TALENTED POOL.

MR. [INAUDIBLE] AND HIS SPECIALISTS HAVE REALLY WORKED HARD.

THERE WERE A TOTAL OF ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE STUDENTS WHO THEY HAVE MOVED INTO THIS AREA, BUT THEN ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE WERE THEN QUALIFIED.

THE GT SPECIALISTS ARE FINISHING ELEMENTARY TESTING AND WILL BEGIN SECONDARY TESTING THIS MONTH. ADDITIONALLY, LET'S REMEMBER THAT WE WILL BE TESTING ABOUT TWO THOUSAND KINDER AND

[00:55:02]

SECOND GRADE STUDENTS THAT WILL BE TESTED IN THE SPRING.

SO ONCE AGAIN, OUR NUMBERS WILL BE REFLECTIVE UPON THOSE TESTING OPPORTUNITIES.

SO LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT OUR GOALS OF THAT OF THE EQUITY GOAL IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN, WE SAID WE WILL INCREASE SEVENTY EIGHT STUDENTS, SIX PERCENT OF THOSE IDENTIFIED TO GT PROGRAMS. WE'RE PROUD TO SAY THAT WE'VE INCREASED BY FORTY FOUR STUDENTS AT THREE POINT TWO PERCENT INCREASE. WE'RE HOPEFUL IN THAT AREA.

AND WE KNOW IN OUR VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT THE STUDENTS THAT WE'RE SEEKING.

ALSO IN GOAL TWO YOU SEE THAT ECO WILL INCREASE 64 STUDENTS TO FIVE PERCENT OF THOSE IDENTIFIED FOR GT SERVICES.

AND LET'S REALLY CELEBRATE THIS PLUS 94.

WE HAVE SURPASSED THIS GOAL ALREADY AT A SEVEN POINT THREE PERCENT INCREASE.

I WANT TO PAUSE QUICKLY AND SEE ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE I MOVE TO ADVANCED ACADEMICS? OR THOUGHTS.

COULD YOU CAN YOU EXPLAIN A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE TALENT POOL I THINK WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE, BUT I'M NOT SURE WE TALKED ABOUT IT WITH THE WHOLE GROUP.

SO IF YOU CAN EXPLAIN WHAT THE TALENT POOL IS AND WHY WE'VE IDENTIFIED TALENT POOL STUDENTS, THAT'S DIFFERENT THAN REGULAR STUDENTS.

ABSOLUTELY. SO THE TALENT POOL STUDENTS ARE NOT SPECIFICALLY MEETING THE CRITERIA.

HOWEVER, WE HAVE IDENTIFIED STUDENTS THAT ARE RIGHT ON THE BRINK OF SUCCESS.

SO ALONGSIDE THOSE THAT ARE ALREADY QUALIFIED INTO THE PROGRAM, WE ALSO CARRY THE TALENT POOL OF STUDENTS AND WE ARE PUSHING IN OR EITHER PULLING OUT AND HELPING THE STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO BE PLACED WITHIN THE PROGRAM ITSELF.

SO HE HAS A NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHERE EACH OF THE [INAUDIBLE] ARE MONITORING AT EACH OF THE CAMPUSES. GOOD? THANK YOU FOR THAT QUESTION, DR.

MCFARLAND. ONE OTHER QUESTION GOAL ONE.

SO WE SAY THAT WE WILL INCREASE BY 78, BUT WE INCREASED BY FORTY FOUR.

AND SO SO THE GOAL THIS IS THE YEARLY GOAL OR IS THIS THE TWO YEAR GOAL HERE? THIS IS A YEARLY GOAL AND WE'RE STILL VERY OPTIMISTIC IN THIS AREA BECAUSE AND THAT'S WHY I STATED THAT WE WOULD BE TESTING SECONDARY BEGINNING NEXT MONTH.

AND WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BE TESTING THE FIRST AND THE SECOND GRADE KINDER IN SECOND GRADE IN THE SPRING. SO WE'RE HOPEFUL THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO MEET BOTH OF THESE GOALS.

AND THE PLUSES, SIR, THAT WE'RE SEEING INCREASED IN BOTH AREAS.

ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU. OK, SO LET'S MOVE ON TO ADVANCED ACADEMICS AND LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT OUR GENERAL REPORT ITEMS WE HAVE IN ADVANCED ACADEMICS, THE UMBRELLA OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS, WE HAVE INCREASED BY TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY FOUR STUDENTS AT TWENTY POINT SEVEN, INCREASE. THE TOTAL ADVANCED PLACEMENT GROWTH THAT WE HAVE SEEN IS THAT OF ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN STUDENTS WITH A 12 PERCENT INCREASE.

WE HAVE FOR THE FIRST TIME AFRICAN-AMERICAN PARTICIPATION IN ADVANCED ACADEMICS OF THIRTY EIGHT STUDENTS. SO WE HAVE REALLY BEEN INTENTIONAL ABOUT SEEKING THE STUDENTS THAT CAN BE SUCCESSFUL AND ENCOURAGING FAMILIES AND STUDENTS TO ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ADVANCED ACADEMICS.

THE EQUITY GOALS GOAL ONE IN THE AREA OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS.

WE SAID THAT MALE STUDENTS WOULD INCREASE BY SIX PERCENT ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN STUDENTS IN PRE AP.

SO WE HAVE NOW IN THE MALE POPULATION INCREASED BY ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY TWO STUDENTS.

THAT IS A SIX POINT TWO PERCENT INCREASE.

SO WE'RE VERY PLEASED TO SAY THAT WE HAVE MET THIS GOAL.

IN GOAL TWO AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS WILL INCREASE BY EIGHT PERCENT OUT OF SEVENTY EIGHT STUDENTS IN AP ENROLLMENT.

AND THIS MIGHT BE AN EXAMPLE DR.

MCFARLAND, AS YOU ASKED THE QUESTION PRIOR TO THIS IS A PLUS THIRTY ONE WITH A THREE POINT TWO PERCENT INCREASE.

AND WHAT WE MIGHT DO WITH THIS GOAL, OF COURSE, IS TURN IT INTO A TWO YEAR GOAL AND BE SURE TO MEET THIS GOAL BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR.

ANY QUESTIONS, THOUGHTS? OK, ALL RIGHTY, SO THEN WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO DUAL ENROLLMENT YEARLY GOAL, THE GENERAL REPORT ITEM WILL TELL US THAT WE HAD A TOTAL ON RAMP INCREASE OF ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY STUDENTS. SIXTY THREE PERCENT INCREASE AND A TOTAL TCC INCREASE OF FORTY EIGHT STUDENTS, 16 PERCENT INCREASE.

SO WHAT DID OUR EQUITY GOAL SAY? IN GOAL ONE, WE SAID THAT AFRICAN-AMERICAN ENROLLMENT WOULD INCREASE BY TWENTY SIX PERCENT OUT OF 30 STUDENTS IN ON RAMPS DUEL ENROLLMENT.

SO FOR AFRICAN-AMERICANS WE HAVE HAD A PLUS EIGHTY FIVE STUDENTS, A 60 PERCENT SCREENING INCREASE. SO PROUD OF US.

WE HAVE EXCEEDED THAT GOAL BY FIFTY FIVE STUDENTS.

AND GOAL TWO AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND MALES WILL INCREASE BY 10 PERCENT, 30 STUDENTS IN TCC

[01:00:07]

DUEL CREDIT ENROLLMENT.

WE HAVE SEEN A PLUS THREE STUDENT ENROLLMENT AT A TWO PERCENT INCREASE.

AND CURRENTLY WE'RE LOOKING AT SOME VARIABLES TO BETTER UNDERSTAND IN HOW WE CAN CONTINUE TO INCREASE THAT ENROLLMENT.

ANY QUESTIONS OR THOUGHTS? ALL RIGHT. ANTHONY, LET'S MOVE US TO CAREER TECHNOLOGY, EDUCATION ENROLLMENT YEARLY GOAL.

SO MY APOLOGY, SOMETHING HAPPENED THERE WITH MY ARROW, SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME.

TOTAL ENROLLMENT PLUS THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX STUDENTS.

THERE'S AN 18 PERCENT INCREASE, TOTAL HIGH SCHOOL.

OK, WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT CAREER TECH, WE HAVE PLUS TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE STUDENTS FOR AN EIGHT PERCENT INCREASE.

WE'RE ALSO TAKING A LOOK AT MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THAT'S WHERE IT STARTS. SO WE HAD A PLUS ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN STUDENTS, TEN POINT FIVE PERCENT INCREASE AND A TOTAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN INCREASE OF ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR STUDENTS WITH A SEVEN PERCENT INCREASE.

NOW, LET'S TAKE LET'S DRILL INTO OUR EQUITY GOAL TO UNDERSTAND HOW WE HAVE DONE THERE IN THE ECO ENROLLMENT AND CTE COURSES WE SAID THAT WE WOULD INCREASE BY SIX PERCENT, THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX STUDENTS.

AND WE ARE VERY PLEASED THAT WE HAVE MET THAT GOAL WITH THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN STUDENTS, LITTLE OVER SIX PERCENT BECAUSE IT'S ONE STUDENT BUT SIX PERCENT INCREASE AND GO TO WE HAD AFRICAN-AMERICAN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AND COURSES.

WE SAID THEY WOULD INCREASE BY TWELVE POINT THREE PERCENT.

ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY STUDENTS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL WE HAVE A PLUS 54 STUDENTS WITH A SEVEN PERCENT INCREASE.

AND ONCE AGAIN, THIS GOAL IS ONE THAT WE'RE WORKING ON, WE'RE LOOKING AT RECRUITMENT AND WORKING ON OUR OWN EFFORTS THERE.

THIS ONE WILL CONVERT INTO A TWO YEAR GOAL.

ALL RIGHTY, AND THEREFORE, I BELIEVE THAT'S MY LAST SLIDE IT IS, AND OF COURSE, THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION THIS EVENING.

I HOPE THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO SEE MANY OF THE INCREASES IN THE WORK THAT WE HAVE DONE.

AND I'M GLAD TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS OR THOUGHTS AT THIS TIME.

AND OF COURSE, DR. MCFARLAND IS ALSO.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH [INAUDIBLE].

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? NO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I DO HAVE A QUESTION ON THE INITIAL SLIDES, WE KEPT SEEING THAT MALES, AFRICAN-AMERICAN [INAUDIBLE] DOES MALE ENCOMPASS ALL SUBGROUPS OR JUST A SPECIFIC SUBGROUP.

MALES, WE ACTUALLY SEE THAT AS A SUBGROUP ITSELF.

YES. THANK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME. THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING THAT MS. [INAUDIBLE]. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? AND WHERE CAN WE FIND WHERE CAN WE FIND OUR GOALS, ARE THESE GOALS LISTED ONLINE IF WE WANTED TO VISIT THEM OR IF THE COMMUNITY WANTED TO SEE WHAT OUR EQUITY GOALS ARE SPECIFICALLY, ARE THEY LOCATED SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT? WE HAVE WE HAVEN'T PUBLISHED THESE EQUITY GOALS, BUT THEY ARE PART OF OUR ONCE WE PRESENT OUR DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN AND PUBLISH THOSE, WE CAN WE COULD WE COULD MAKE THOSE AVAILABLE.

BUT WE THERE'S REALLY NO REASON WHY WE SHOULDN'T MAKE IT AVAILABLE SO WE CAN MAKE THOSE AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW, UP TO THIS POINT, WE WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE THEM INCLUDED IN OUR DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLANS AND OUR CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS.

ONE THING THAT WE'VE DONE AND YOU'LL SEE THAT LATER, IS THAT IN EVERY CAMPUS PLAN, THERE IS AN EQUITY GOAL THAT WE HAVE ACTUALLY MADE EXPLICIT THIS YEAR.

AND SO IT'S ALL ACROSS ALL OF OUR PLANS.

THOSE EQUITY GOALS WILL BE IDENTIFIED FOR SURE.

AND SO I NOTICED THAT A LOT OF THE DISCUSSION TONIGHT ON THIS PRESENTATION WAS SURROUNDING I THINK AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS.

HOW ARE STUDENTS OF COLOR OVERALL PERFORMING.

IS IT A LOT OF DISPARITY BETWEEN OTHER STUDENTS OF COLOR AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT MAKES SENSE. WELL, SO WHAT WE DID TONIGHT WAS JUST WE TOOK THE DISPARITIES, THE KEY AREAS OF DISPARITY, AND WE ACTUALLY JUST SHARED KIND OF AN UPDATE ON THOSE KEY AREAS. AND REALLY, WE ONLY TALKING ABOUT ENROLLMENT TONIGHT, BUT WE AS FAR AS THE OTHER AREAS [INAUDIBLE] JUMP IN AND CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

BUT AS FAR AS THE OTHER AREAS THAT WERE NOT GLARING DISPARITIES, THE GLARING DISPARITIES WERE WITH THE AREAS THAT WE THE SUBGROUPS, SUBPOPULATIONS THAT WE IDENTIFIED.

OK, THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND.

ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? ALL RIGHT, WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH, MS.[INAUDIBLE] FOR BRINGING THIS INFORMATION TO US TONIGHT. YOU'RE WELCOME.

[01:05:08]

OK, THIS NOW BRINGS US TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS, ARE THERE IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION

[8.0 Consent Agenda]

SURROUNDING ANY OF THE CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS TONIGHT FROM THE BOARD? THERE'S NO DISCUSSION.

DO WE HAVE A MOTION? I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

I'LL SECOND.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY RYAN AND A SECOND BY LYNDSAE.

CAN WE HAVE A VOTE, PLEASE? YES, SIR. MR. ROBINSON. YES, THANK YOU.

DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD.

YES. YES.

THANK YOU. MISS HALL.

ARE YOU THERE? WE'LL COME BACK TO HER.

OH, GOOD. THANK YOU, MISS HALL. MISS DAVIS.

YES. THANK YOU, MR. RAY. YES.

THANK YOU, MR. GRASSIA.

YES. THANK YOU. AND MISS BENTON.

YES. THANK YOU.

I BELIEVE THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.

YES, MA'AM. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU VP GRASSIA AND THANK YOU, MR. KIRCHNER. ALL RIGHT, LET'S MOVE TO OUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS, AGENDA

[9.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item (s)]

ITEM 9.1 87TH LEGISLATURE.

CISD LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES.

DR. MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, THANK YOU ALL WHO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR INITIAL CONVERSATION AROUND LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES.

TONIGHT, WE HAVE DR. KOHLER HERE TO REPORT ON THE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES THAT WE HAVE SYNTHESIZED FROM THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND OTHERS.

DR. KOHLER. THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND MS. HALL MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, THE EIGHTY SEVENTH LEGISLATURE WILL CONVENE ON JANUARY THE 12TH, 2021.

AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT THE BOARD'S PRIORITIES ARE BECAUSE THEY FOCUS THE DISTRICT EFFORTS PRIOR TO AND DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

AND THEY ALSO SERVE TO GUIDE THE DISTRICT'S POSITION ON PUBLIC EDUCATION ISSUES THAT WILL LIKELY BE DISCUSSED IN THE SESSION.

SO LAST MONTH YOU ALL WERE PROVIDED SAMPLE DOCUMENTS AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO SUBMIT FEEDBACK OR REVIEW THOSE.

I ALSO SENT THOSE SAME DOCUMENTS TO OUR CENTRAL OFFICE STAFF TO GET INPUT FROM THEM AS WELL. AND THEN EARLIER THIS WEEK, WE HAD TRUSTEES MS. ROBINSON, MR. RAY AND DR.

MAYFIELD MEET WITH A TEAM OF DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS TO KIND OF TAKE THOSE TAKE ALL OF THAT FEEDBACK AND SYNTHESIZE THAT INTO OUR DRAFT PRIORITIES.

AND THAT DOCUMENT IS ATTACHED TO YOUR EXHIBIT.

AND I BELIEVE MR. KIRCHNER SENT THAT OUT TO YOU TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE ADDITIONAL TIME TO REVIEW THOSE. SO THE DOCUMENT BEGINS WITH SOME OVERARCHING STATEMENTS AROUND EQUITY AND DIVERSITY AND THEN ORGANIZES PRIORITIES INTO FOUR MAJOR AREAS EDUCATION FUNDING, ACCOUNTABILITY AND ASSESSMENT, LOCAL CONTROL AND FLEXIBILITY AND CHARTERS AND VOUCHERS.

SO ONCE THE BOARD HAS APPROVED, THE DOCUMENT WILL CREATE A MORE POLISHED VERSION TO SHARE WITH OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS.

AND RIGHT NOW, OUR FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE YOUR PRIORITIES HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2ND, AT ONE O'CLOCK.

WE'LL HAVE A LEGISLATIVE WORKSHOP AND IT'LL GIVE YOU THAT FORUM TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION. MR. KIRCHNER DO YOU HAVE AN UPDATE ON ATTENDEES WE'RE EXPECTING AT THAT EVENT? YES, DR.

DR. [INAUDIBLE] AND I AND DR.

MCFARLAND ARE AVAILABLE FOR ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE FOR US.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, DR.

MOSLEY AND DR. [INAUDIBLE], ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? ALL RIGHT. THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS WE WILL.

THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM, SO WE WILL SEE YOU BACK NEXT MONTH.

AND DR.

MOSLEY IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU.

I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN A LONG TIME.

I ACTUALLY HAD TO KIND OF FIND YOU ON THE GALLERY SO I CAN SAY HI.

SO IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU.

GREAT TO SEE. ALL RIGHT, THIS BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM TEN POINT TWO, OFFICE RENOVATIONS, FACILITY MODIFICATIONS FOR CROWLEY ISD POLICE DEPARTMENT.

DR. MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RENOVATING OUR FORMER MAINTENANCE FACILITY TO BECOME OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT.

AND MR. LEON FISHER WILL REPORT ON THIS FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

MR. FISHER.

THANK YOU AGAIN, DR. MCFARLAND.

GOOD EVENING AGAIN, MADAM PRESIDENT.

MEMBERS OF THE BOARD BOARD, AS YOU ARE AWARE, AS DR.

MCFARLAND JUST STATED, WE HAVE REPURPOSED OUR OLD MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT BUILDING AND TRANSITION IN THAT BUILDING NOW TO OUR CISDC ISD POLICE DEPARTMENT.

AND AS SUCH, THERE ARE SEVERAL RENOVATIONS, MODIFICATIONS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO TRANSITION THE OLD MAINTENANCE BUILDING TO A FUNCTIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT FACILITY.

AND SO TONIGHT, WE ARE PRESENTING AS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM SEVERAL OF THOSE RENOVATIONS, WHICH WILL INCLUDE THE CONSTRUCTION TO BUILD A PROPERTY EVIDENCE ROOM WITH AN EVIDENCE VAULT AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF FENCING AROUND THE PARKING AREA THAT WILL EVENTUALLY HOUSE THESE NEW CISD PATROL VEHICLES.

THE COST OF THIS RENOVATION IS SIXTY EIGHT THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS, AND IT HAS BEEN BUDGETED IN OUR FUND ONE NINETY NINE.

THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS, I WILL ENTERTAIN THOSE NOW.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD AT THIS TIME? I HAVE A QUESTION JUST RELATED TO MAYBE IF THIS IS JUST INITIAL, ARE WE ANTICIPATING FUTURE RENOVATIONS? THAT MAYBE NEED TO BE CONSIDERED LATER, SECURITY, ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD, THERE ARE ACTUALLY SOME SECURITY RENOVATIONS THAT ARE ACTUALLY BEING UNDERTAKEN NOW AS WELL.

WE DID NOT BRING THOSE TO THE BOARD BECAUSE THEY DID NOT MEET THE THRESHOLD FOR REPORTING IN THE PUBLIC SESSION. OK, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. MR. FISHER, I'M SORRY, I HAVE A QUESTION.

I JUST COULDN'T HEAR YOU VERY WELL.

IT'S KIND OF LOW, BUT DID YOU SAY IT WOULD BE FUNDED ONE NINETY NINE? YES, MA'AM. OK.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I HEARD YOU RIGHT, OK? ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? OK, THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM, SO THANK YOU, MR. FISHER. WE'LL SEE YOU BACK NEXT MONTH.

ARE YOU GOING TO BRING DESIGNS FOR THE UNIFORMS TO? I'M JUST CURIOUS.

I CAN.

[INAUDIBLE] AGENDA ITEM, TEN POINT THREE 2021-2022 NEW COURSE OFFERINGS, DR.

MAYFIELD. I MEAN, DR.

MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, IT IS TIME FOR US TO BEGIN TO THINK ABOUT THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR.

AND SO WE HAVE NEW COURSE OFFERINGS THAT WE WILL BE CONSIDERING.

MR. KEITH IS GOING TO BRING FORWARD THIS FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

GOOD EVENING AGAIN, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS.

EACH YEAR WE BRING TO THE BOARD INFORMATION ON COURSES THAT WILL BE ADDED TO OUR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL COURSE OFFERINGS.

WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

THESE COURSES FALL INTO THREE CATEGORIES TEXT BASED COURSES, STATE APPROVED INNOVATIVE COURSES AND JUST INNOVATIVE COURSES.

I'LL BE PRESENTING FOUR TEKS BASED COURSES THAT WILL BE ADDING TO OUR HIGH SCHOOL COURSE GUIDE, AND MRS. DUVALL WILL BE PRESENTING INNOVATIVE COURSES FOR THE EXPANSION OF OUR CTE PROGRAMS OF STUDY. SO AS WE GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, OUR FIRST TEKS BASED COURSE THAT WE WILL BE ADDING IS A STATISTICS COURSE.

THIS IS A SENIOR LEVEL MATH COURSE AND IT PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH ADDITIONAL OPTIONS FOR THEIR FOURTH MATH AS PART OF THEIR FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM GRADUATION PLAN.

THE NEXT COURSE THAT WE'LL BE OFFERING IS AN EXPANDED AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDIES COURSE.

[01:25:01]

AS YOU MAY REMEMBER, LAST YEAR WE PRESENTED WHAT'S CALLED A SPECIAL TOPICS IN SOCIAL STUDIES COURSE, THIS IS A COURSE THAT'S DEVELOPED LOCALLY AND IT WAS AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDIES COURSE FOR A HALF CREDIT.

BUT IN EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE STATE APPROVED A FULL YEAR AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDIES COURSE THAT WE WILL BE REPLACING THAT SPECIAL TOPICS COURSE WITH DR.

CLARENCE WILLIAM AND HIS TEAM HAVE BEEN WORKING ON DEVELOPING THE CURRICULUM FOR THAT.

THE THIRD COURSE THAT WILL BE OFFERING ON THE NEXT SLIDE IS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR SHOW CHOIR AT BOTH OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES.

THIS IS AN EXCITING ADDITION TO OUR FINE ARTS PROGRAM.

REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE THIS COURSE OFFERING HERE.

AND THEN OUR FOURTH COURSE, TEKS BASED COURSE ONRAMPS BIOLOGY.

SO WITH ONRAMPS BIOLOGY, THIS GIVES STUDENTS A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE DUAL ENROLLMENT IN BOTH A HIGH SCHOOL COURSE AND A COLLEGE COURSE THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS.

AND IT ALLOWS THEM TO EARN COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE THEY ARE STILL ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOL.

SO THESE ARE OUR FOUR TEKS BASED COURSES THAT WE'LL BE EXPANDING OUR HIGH SCHOOL OFFERINGS WITH. AND I'LL TURN IT OVER TO MRS. DUVALL TO TALK ABOUT OUR CTE PROGRAMS, OUR COURSES AND COURSES RELATED TO P-TECH.

THANK YOU MR. KEITH. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT HALL, DR.

MCFARLAND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

SO WE DO HAVE A LIST OF PROPOSED NEW COURSES FOR CTE AND P-TECH.

THESE ARE ALL STATE APPROVED INNOVATIVE COURSES THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO OFFER IN OUR DISTRICT. AND ON THE SUBSEQUENT SLIDES, WE DO HAVE A DETAILED DESCRIPTION.

SO, MR. KIRCHNER IF WE COULD GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

SO OUR FIRST COURSE THAT WE'RE PROPOSING ARE ACTUALLY FOUR COURSES MAKE UP, THIS IS A TEXAS FRESHMAN ENGINEERING PROGRAM.

THIS IS A SUMMER ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY THAT'S OFFERED THROUGH VARIOUS COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES AROUND THE STATE OF TEXAS.

AND STUDENTS DO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR THIS PROGRAM.

IT CONSISTS OF ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY CONTACT HOURS RELATED TO STEM.

IT'S A PRETTY RIGOROUS SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM.

AND WE CAN AS A DISTRICT AWARD, ONE CREDIT FOR HIGH SCHOOL ELECTIVE CREDIT IF WE CHOOSE TO DO SO. SO WE'RE PROPOSING TO ADD THAT TO OUR REPERTOIRE OF COURSES.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

THE NEXT COURSE THAT WE ARE PROPOSING IS ENGINEERING ESSENTIALS, THIS COURSE IS A NEW COURSE IN THE PROJECT LEAD THE WAY SEQUENCE OF COURSES.

IT IS AN ENTRY LEVEL ENGINEERING COURSE WHERE STUDENTS DO RECEIVE A HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT.

WE ARE PROPOSING TO ADD THAT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AS AN INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING.

THE NEXT COURSE THAT WE HAVE, WHICH IS STUDENT TO INDUSTRY CONNECTION, IS A COURSE THAT LOOKS AT DIFFERENT EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.

WE PROPOSE THIS AS A COURSE FOR OUR SPED STUDENTS WHO FOLLOW AN ALTERNATIVE CURRICULUM, PRIMARILY OUR FUNCTIONAL ACADEMIC COURSE STUDENTS, AND GIVES THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO FOCUS ON EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.

NEXT, THANK YOU. WE'RE ALSO PROPOSING ENTREPRENEURSHIP 2.

WE CURRENTLY OFFER ENTREPRENEURSHIP ONE, AND WE HAVE FORTY SEVEN STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THIS. THIS WOULD ALLOW THEM TO TAKE AN ADVANCED COURSE FOCUSED ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

AND THEN AN ADDITIONAL COURSE AND CONCEPTS OF DISTRIBUTION AND LOGISTICS, DISTRIBUTION AND LOGISTICS IS ONE OF THE PROGRAMS OF STUDY THAT OUR P-TECH ACADEMY WILL BE FOCUSING ON. AND THIS WOULD PROVIDE A HIGH SCHOOL MATCHING COURSE FOR A COLLEGE DUAL CREDIT COURSE THAT WE ARE PROPOSING FOR THE P-TECHACADEMY.

OUR NEXT SLIDE IS INTRODUCTION TO AEROSPACE AND AVIATION.

THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL COURSE THAT SUPPORTS BOTH AVIATION MAINTENANCE AND AVIATION FLIGHT. WE ARE PROPOSING A REGIONAL PROGRAM OF STUDY FOCUSED ON AVIATION FLIGHT.

AND THIS COURSE WOULD BE AN ENTRY LEVEL COURSE FOR THOSE BOTH OF THOSE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS OF STUDY. THE NEXT COURSE IS AVIATION GROUND SCHOOL.

AND THIS PARTICULAR COURSE WOULD SUPPORT THE AVIATION FLIGHT PROGRAM OF STUDY.

WE'RE PROPOSING OSHA TECHNOLOGY THIS FOCUSES ON HEALTH, SAFETY, PRODUCTIVITY WITHIN THE WORKFORCE, AND WE DO BELIEVE THAT THIS WILL BE PART OF THE P-TECH ACADEMY FOR BOTH AVIATION MAINTENANCE AND LOGISTICS.

AND STUDENTS DO RECEIVE AN OSHA 30 INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION IN THIS PARTICULAR COURSE, THE NEXT THREE COURSES, GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS. AND IF WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE, RASTER BASED GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND SPATIAL TECHNOLOGY AND REMOTE SENSING ARE A SERIES OF COURSES THAT WILL SUPPORT UNMANNED AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES AND SYSTEMS IN OUR P-TECH ACADEMY AND IN OUR CTE PROGRAM OF

[01:30:06]

STUDY. SO AT THIS TIME, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, I WOULD LOVE TO ENTERTAIN THOSE. THANK YOU MS. DUVALL. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? MS. DUVALL AND MR. KEITH.

AND WHEN DO YOU GET TO SIGN UP FOR THESE CLASSES? THESE ARE AMAZING.

COME ON, MR. GRASSIA, WE'LL GIVE YOU A PREVIEW.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? ALL RIGHT, WELL, I AGREE, I ECHO THE SENTIMENTS OF VP GRASSIA.

THESE ARE SOME AMAZING COURSE OFFERINGS.

I'M EXCITED TO SEE THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN COURSE AND ALSO EXCITED THERE WAS ONE OTHER.

WHAT WAS THE OTHER COURSE WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL THAT YOU INTRODUCED, MR. KEITH? COULD YOU BRING THAT BACK TO MY REMEMBRANCE.

WE HAVE A SHOW CHOIR STATISTICS AND ONRAMPS BIOLOGY.

YES. THE STATISTICS REALLY STUCK OUT FOR ME.

I REALLY WISH I HAD THE STATISTICS RIGHT ABOUT NOW.

MAYFIELD. YES.

YES. THAT IS THE CLASS THAT I HAD TO RETAKE IN COLLEGE BECAUSE I WAS BLOWN AWAY.

YOU KNOW, I ENDED UP DOING GREAT THE NEXT TIME AROUND, BUT HAD I HAD IT IN HIGH SCHOOL, IT WOULD HAVE MADE THE DIFFERENCE. [INAUDIBLE] YEAH, I MEAN, SEE MY ADVANCED STATISTICS FOR A RESEARCH BOOK, IT'S BEEN A STATISTICAL NIGHTMARE OVER HERE ALL WEEK, SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. AND WE WILL SEE YOU BACK NEXT TIME.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, THIS BRINGS US TO OUR EXECUTIVE SESSION AT THIS TIME, THE BOARD WILL

[11.0 Executive Session]
