GOOD EVENING, I HEREBY CALL TO ORDER THE FEBRUARY 25TH, 2021 REGULAR BOARD MEETING BY

[1.0 Call to Order]

VIDEO CONFERENCE OF THE CROWLEY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND CERTIFY THAT WE ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 551.041 AND 551.045 OF TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE.

PURSUANT TO PUBLIC NOTICE OF THIS MEETING AND AS ALLOWED BY THE TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL'S ISSUANCE OF TEMPORARY SUSPENSION TO CERTAIN OPEN MEETING LAWS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND CLOSURES.

I REQUEST THE OFFICIAL ROLL CALL, PLEASE.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

THANK YOU ALL FOR JOINING OUR MEETING THIS EVENING, WHICH IS ALSO OPEN TO THE PUBLIC TO JOIN BY VIDEOCONFERENCE, WE HAVE IMPORTANT BUSINESS TO ATTEND TONIGHT.

I WOULD ASK THAT YOU BE PATIENT AS WE CONDUCT OUR MEETING IN THIS FORMAT.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR DEVICES ARE MUTED.

IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, PLEASE SEND A TEXT MESSAGE OR EMAIL TO MR. KIRCHNER. AT THIS TIME, PLEASE RISE AND JOIN US FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

OF ALLEGIANCE] THANK YOU. YOU MAY BE SEATED.

MR. KIRCHNER, JUST TO CONFIRM THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE SIGNED UP FOR OPEN FORUM THIS EVENING? THAT IS CORRECT.

NO ONE SIGNED UP. ALL RIGHT, WELL, THIS WILL MOVE US INTO OUR BOARD CELEBRATIONS, AGENDA

[4.0 Board Celebrations]

ITEM 4.0.

ARE THERE ANY CELEBRATIONS, ANY THAT THE TRUSTEES WOULD LIKE TO BRING FORWARD TONIGHT? MS. HALL, I HAVE A CELEBRATION.

ALL RIGHT, TRUSTEE DAVIS, OK, AND I KNOW IT'S BEEN SAID BEFORE, BUT I WANT TO CELEBRATE AND THANK THE STAFF, THIS THE CISD STAFF AND THE CONTRACTED SERVICES STAFF FOR EVERYTHING THEY HAVE BEEN DOING.

SO MANY THINGS HAVE BEEN THROWN AT THEM MORE THAN THEY'RE HAVING TO DEAL WITH, MORE THAN THEY SHOULD AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU AND I WANT TO CELEBRATE THEM WITH MY CELEBRATION TONIGHT.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. I DEFINITELY ECHO YOUR SENTIMENTS TO HAVE HEARD, WELL, WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE ALL EXPERIENCED LAST WEEK, AND IN THE MIDST OF ALL OF THAT, WE HAD OUR MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT AND OTHERS GOING TO THE CAMPUSES TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK AND ACTUALLY BEING PREVENTATIVE IN ANTICIPATION OF PLUMBING ISSUES AND PIPES BURSTING AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE. SO I WAS VERY PROUD THAT WE WERE ABLE TO OPEN ON TIME AS PLANNED UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

AND I KNOW THAT'S BECAUSE OF FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL PEOPLE THAT WORK IN CISD.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT. THAT COMMENT AND FOR YOUR SERVICE, ARE THERE ANY OTHER CELEBRATIONS OR COMMENTS FROM TRUSTEES? I HAVE A COMMENT. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

GO AHEAD. OK, SO I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS NECESSARILY A CELEBRATION, BUT LIKE YOU MENTIONED LAST WEEK, WITH THE POWER OUTAGES AND THE BROKEN PIPES DUE TO THE WEATHER, I WANT TO THANK CISD FOR DISTRIBUTING FOOD TO FAMILIES YESTERDAY.

I KNOW THAT HELPED GREATLY FOR FAMILIES WHO LOST FOOD DUE TO NOT HAVING ELECTRICITY.

I ALSO WANT TO THANK CISD AND ARAMARK BECAUSE I AM DISPLACED DUE TO PIPE BURST.

SO I PROBABLY WILL NOT BE BACK INTO MY HOUSE UNTIL MAYBE AUGUST.

BUT ARAMARK--THAT'S THE GRANDFATHER CLOCK I'M SORRY--WAS SO GRACIOUS TO DELIVER FOOD TO MY PARENTS HOUSE TODAY.

SO I APPRECIATE THAT.

I APPRECIATE DEER CREEK WHERE HAVING FREE DRESS THIS WEEK BECAUSE FOR FAMILIES LIKE MINE WHO HAD TO WASH A WHOLE BUNCH OF CLOTHES OVER THE WEEKEND AND DID NOT HAVE TIME TO LOOK

[00:05:05]

FOR SCHOOL UNIFORMS, FREE DRESS WAS A GODSEND.

SO I JUST THINK CISD FOR PIVOTING AND BEING FLEXIBLE FOR FAMILIES WHO WERE THROWN INTO A SITUATION THAT THEY WERE NOT EXPECTING.

SO, AGAIN, THAT'S MY CELEBRATION.

I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A CELEBRATION, BUT THANK YOU.

THIS IS APPRECIATION.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE ROBINSON, FOR SHARING YOUR TESTIMONY WITH US AND ALSO SHOWING FOR US HOW CISD STANDS IN THE GAP FOR OUR FAMILY.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS AS WELL.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTEE? OK, WELL, THIS CONCLUDES OUR BOARD CELEBRATIONS.

WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR RECOGNITION ITEMS, AGENDA ITEM 5.1, BATTLE OF THE BOOKS WINNERS,

[5.0 Recognition Item(s)]

MR. KIRCHNER. YES, GOOD EVENING, MS. HALL. MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND, IT'S GREAT TO BE WITH YOU ALL THIS EVENING.

THIS RECOGNITION, WE'RE ABOUT TO SHARE A LINES WITH GOAL ONE OF OUR VISION 2025 STRATEGIC PLAN, WHICH IS DRIVING STUDENTS AND OUR CISD BATTLE OF THE BOOKS COMPETITION, OVERCAME THE PANDEMIC AND HELD AN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL VIRTUAL COMPETITION.

IN JANUARY, IT WAS THE FOURTH ANNUAL BATTLE OF THE BOOKS COMPETITION HERE IN CROWLEY, AND IT WAS FUNDED BY A GENEROUS GRANT FROM THE CHISHOLM TRAIL EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND IT INVOLVED STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL ACROSS THE DISTRICT IN GRADES THREE, FOUR AND FIVE AND THEY COMPETED VIRTUALLY AND OBSERVED ALL THE SOCIAL TESTING PROTOCOLS AND HAD A REALLY SAFE, SUCCESSFUL EVENT.

STUDENTS REPRESENTED THEIR CAMPUSES AS READING EXPERTS AND PARENTS WERE ABLE TO WATCH THE VIRTUAL COMPETITION FROM WORK AND HOME.

SO IT WAS REALLY A GREAT COLLABORATION AND THIS BATTLE OF THE BOOKS IS REALLY A WIN FOR CROWLEY ISD BECAUSE IT'S INCLUSIVE OF ALL STUDENTS AT ALL READING LEVELS AND ABILITIES, ENCOURAGING READING AND CREATING LIFELONG READERS IN CROWLEY ISD IS OUR HOPE AND OUR MISSION WITH THIS PROJECT AND WE WANT TO SAY A HUGE THANKS TO THE TEAM THAT MADE THIS POSSIBLE, INCLUDING OUR CISD LIBRARY SERVICES TEAM LED BY JAN HODGE AND CARROL H., THE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY TEAM, THE CURRICULUM DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT.

THIS BATTLE OF THE BOOKS COMPETITION IS A GREAT TRADITION HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

WE'RE SO GLAD WE'RE ABLE TO CONTINUE IT THIS YEAR.

WE ARE NOW GOING TO ANNOUNCE AND INTRODUCE THE WINNERS TO YOU THIS EVENING.

SOME OF THEM WERE ABLE TO LOG ON AND LISTEN ALONG TONIGHT, BUT WE ALSO HAVE THEIR PICTURES UP ON THE SCREEN FROM OUR THIRD GRADE WINNERS AND SO THIS WAS THIRD GRADE DISTRICT CHAMPION TEAM FOR THE ENTIRE CROWLEY ISD WAS FROM DAVID L.

THE BOOK BLAZERS YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN THERE, M.

PAGE, KIMBERLY, ELISE AND JAY AND THEIR COACH WAS JENNIFER B.

AND SO WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE EVERY STUDENT WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS.

IT WAS A GREAT EVENT AND IT WAS SO GREAT TO SEE STUDENTS PARTICIPATING FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT VIRTUALLY AND OUR TEAM WANTED US TO SHARE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT NEXT YEAR AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO BE EXPANDING BATTLE OF THE BOOKS UP TO SIXTH GRADE.

THEY ARE GOING TO ANNOUNCE A BOOK TRAILER COMPETITION AND A BOOK TRAILER WILL BE A SHORT VIDEO THAT STUDENTS CREATE ABOUT A SPECIAL BOOK TO TRY TO CONVINCE THEIR FRIENDS AND CLASSMATES TO READ A BOOK AND SO THEY'LL NOT ONLY HAVE TO READ THE BOOK, BUT THEY'LL CREATE A BOOK, VIDEO TRAILER ABOUT THAT AND BE PART OF THAT COMPETITION.

SO WATCH FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR BOOK TRAILER COMPETITION COMING NEXT YEAR FOR SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS.

WE ARE EXCITED TO SEE THOSE CREATIVE VIDEOS AND STUDENTS KEEP ON READING.

CONGRATULATIONS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE STUDENTS AND THINGS ONLY GET BIGGER AND BETTER EVERY YEAR AND CROWLEY ISD. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE TRAILER AND THANK YOU ALL FOR TRYING TO CONTINUE AND SUCCESSFULLY DOING SO, ALL THE TRADITIONS THAT WE'VE HAD EVEN IN THIS VIRTUAL SPACE.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PARTICIPANTS AS WELL AS THE WINNERS AND THIS BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM FIVE POINT TO THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL PREVIEW.

MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM . AS WE KNOW, FEBRUARY IS AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH AND WE HAVE MS. CONNIE IZABELL MS. CRYSTAL POLK HERE PREPARED TO REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

[00:10:04]

MS. ISABELL AND MS. POLK. GOOD EVENING.

PRESIDENT HALL, DR.

MACFARLAND, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, TONIGHT'S PRESENTATION ON THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL ADDRESSES ALL THREE GOALS DRIVING STUDENTS, ENGAGED COMMUNITY AND EMPOWERED STAFF.

MARCUS GARVEY SAID THAT A PEOPLE WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST ORIGIN AND CULTURE IS LIKE A TREE WITHOUT ROOTS.

I OFFER HEARTFELT THANKS TO THE SUPERINTENDENT, OUR BOARD MEMBERS, STUDENTS, STAFF AND COMMUNITY FOR WORKING HARD AND SUPPORTING THIS CELEBRATION OF HISTORY AND FOR ENSURING THAT STUDENTS CAN LEARN ABOUT THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PAST IN A FUN, COMPETITIVE AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT.

INDEED, THERE WERE CHALLENGES THIS YEAR, BUT THE COMMITTEE, THE COACHES AND THE VOLUNTEERS, THEY PERSEVERED, THEY PERSISTED AND I CAN SAY THAT WE ARE READY TO BRING CROWLEY'S FIRST VIRTUAL BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL.

MS. CRYSTAL POLK WILL GIVE FURTHER DETAILS OF THIS YEAR'S CELEBRATION.

THANK YOU, MRS. ISABELL.

PRESIDENT HALL, DR.

MCFARLAND BOARD OF TRUSTEES, WE WERE UNSURE IF THIS EVENT WAS GOING TO EVEN HAPPEN WITH ALL THE HISTORICAL EVENTS WE HAVE RECENTLY LIVED THROUGH.

HOWEVER, WHEN YOU HAVE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ASKING IF THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL IS TAKING PLACE, WE QUICKLY REALIZED THAT THE ONLY OPTION WAS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

SO A WINTER STORM AND A PANDEMIC WAS NOT GOING TO STOP US.

WE WERE EXCITED.

WE ARE EXCITED THAT CROWLEY ISD WILL BE KICKING OFF OUR VIRTUAL BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL TOMORROW AT 9 A.M..

THIS YEAR'S THEME IS THE BLACK FAMILY REPRESENTATION, IDENTITY AND DIVERSITY. OUR GOAL IS THAT STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL UTILIZE THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL AS A LAUNCHING PAD TO QUEST FOR A DEEPER KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF BLACK HISTORY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL JOIN US DURING OUR OPENING CEREMONY.

THERE WILL BE SOME AMAZING PERFORMANCES FROM STUDENTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT, AS WELL AS A FEW WORDS FROM OUR FEARLESS LEADER, DR.

MCFARLAND.

THIS YEAR, WE ARE SO HAPPY THAT WE WERE STILL ABLE TO HAVE THE COMPETITION.

THE ARTWORK WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE FOYER OF THE CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION BUILDING FOR THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL COMMITTEE WOULD BE HONORED, IF YOU WILL PARTICIPATE IN JUDGING THAT ARTWORK. JUDGING WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW FROM 8:00 A.M.

TO 12:00 P.M.

HERE AT THE CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION BUILDING.

ALL OF THE INFORMATION FOR TOMORROW'S QUIZ BOWL, THE TOURNAMENT LINKS AND THE BRACKET SCHEDULES WILL BE HOUSE ON CROWLEY ISD'S WEBSITE AND THIS YEAR WE HAVE A TOTAL OF TWENTY FIVE TEAMS AND ON BEHALF OF THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ, THOUGH WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT IN MAKING THIS EVENT POSSIBLE.

THERE'S OUR AMAZING WEBSITE AND ALL THE INFORMATION IS HOUSED RIGHT THERE.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, WE'LL BE MORE THAN HAPPY NOW TO ANSWER THOSE.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH, MS. POLK AND MS. ISABELLE, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? EVERYONE SO QUIET TONIGHT.

WELL, I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BOWL STARTING TOMORROW AND ALSO TO THE ART COMPETITION, WE ALWAYS HAVE SUCH GREAT ARTWORK.

SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

THANK YOU FOR TRANSLATING THIS INTO A VIRTUAL SETTING AS WELL.

SO HATS OFF, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT WAS A LOT OF EFFORT AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE TOMORROW.

ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? ALL RIGHT, WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

WE'LL SEE YOU IN THE MORNING.

ALL RIGHT, THIS MOVES US TO OUR CONSISTENT AGENDA ITEMS, ARE THERE ANY ITEMS IN THE AGENDA

[6.0 Consent Agenda]

WHICH TRUSTEES HAVE QUESTIONS OR WOULD LIKE REMOVED FROM THE AGENDA? IF THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THE CONSENT AGENDA, IS THERE A MOTION? I WOULD MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR MOTION, MR. RAY. IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SECOND, MS. KUNSCHIK.

MR. KIRCHNER, MOVE TO VOTE.

YES, MA'AM.

[00:15:09]

ALL RIGHT. THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

THIS NOW BRINGS US TO OUR REPORT ITEMS.

[7.0 Report Item(s)]

WE'LL BEGIN WITH AGENDA ITEM 7.1, THE KARIS RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UPDATE.

DR. MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE MR. JOHN JORDAN FROM THE NEHEMIAH COMPANY WHO'LL REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

MR. JORDAN.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE'RE JUST THRILLED TO BE HERE AND AT THIS POSITION IN THE LIFE OF KARIS, IT HAS BEEN A IT'S BEEN A LONG ROAD AND THE ENTIRE CROWLEY COMMUNITY AND VERY MUCH INCLUDING CROWLEY ISD HAS BEEN REALLY KEY IN GETTING THIS TOGETHER.

SO WE'RE GRATEFUL TO YOU ALL AND I'D LIKE TO JUST GO THROUGH A FEW SLIDES HERE.

SOME OF THESE WE WERE PRESENTED LAST TIME.

JUST TO KIND OF GIVE YOU SOME IMAGES OF WHAT'S COMING.

ANTHONY, THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

NEXT ONE. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS THE SCHOOL SIDE, OF COURSE, AND I MENTIONED THIS LAST TIME, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A LOOK AT GENERAL BOLDEN'S HISTORY.

GENERAL BOLDEN, CHARLIE BOLDEN, WAS ONE OF MY COMMANDERS WHEN I WAS IN THE MARINE CORPS AND HE HAD COME TO THE COMMUNITY.

I WAS A TEEN FLIER AND HE HAD COME FROM THE COMMUNITY VIA NASA AND HE COMMANDED, I BELIEVE HE COMMANDED FOUR SHUTTLE MISSIONS AND EVENTUALLY, AFTER HE RETIRED FROM THE MARINE CORPS, HE BECAME THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN NASA ADMINISTRATOR AND I MEAN, JUST REALLY, REALLY FIRST CLASS GUY LOVED BEING HIS NEIGHBOR AND SERVING WITH HIM AND UNDER HIM. BUT WE'RE NAMING THE STREETS AROUND THE SCHOOL, BOLDEN AVENUE AFTER GENERAL CHARLES BOLDEN. SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT FROM THE ASPECT OF WHERE PHASE ONE IS GOING TO SIT ON THE SLIDE YOU'RE LOOKING AT.

YOU'LL SEE DOWN IN THE SOUTH, IF NORTH IS TOP DOWN IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER BOTTOM RIGHT, YOU'LL SEE A TURN CIRCLE.

THAT TURN CIRCLE IS ACTUALLY THE CORNER OF BEVERLY STREET AND INDUSTRIAL BOULEVARD.

SO GOING OFF THE MAP TO THE RIGHT, THAT'S WHERE THE INDUSTRIAL BOULEVARD BRIDGE IS AND IF YOU HIT THAT TURN CIRCLE AND GO STRAIGHT SOUTH, YOU'LL END UP AT THE AT THE CISD ADMIN BUILDING, EVENTUALLY DOWN BEVERLY STREET.

SO THAT'S WHERE PHASE ONE IS GOING IN.

WE'RE GOING TO BE BREAKING GROUND ABOUT JUNE ON PHASE ONE.

YOU'LL SEE UP IN THE KIND OF TOP LEFT SECTION, YOU'LL SEE A SERIES OF BLUE BUILDINGS AND WITH SOME GREEN GRASS.

SO THAT'S THE SELECTED SCHOOL SITE.

THAT LAYOUT DOES NOT NECESSARILY DEPICT HOW THE SCHOOL WILL BE BUILT.

IT'S JUST A DEPICTION OF THE LOCATION OF THE SCHOOL SITES, SO EVERYBODY CAN HAVE AN IDEA OF WHERE THAT IS. JUST SOUTH OF THE SCHOOL SITE.

YOU'LL SEE THERE'S A POWER LINE EASEMENT THERE THAT'S, IT'S THE SAME POWER LINE THAT RUNS IT ACROSS TO THE OTHER SIDE OF CROWLEY BOULEVARD, AND THERE'S A MIDDLE SCHOOL OVER THERE THAT'S ADJACENT TO THAT.

SO THAT KIND OF GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHERE THAT IS.

WE'VE WORKED WITH ONCOR TO GET TO BE ABLE TO PUT IN SOME SPORTS FIELDS UNDER THAT SO IT'LL BE ALL CONNECTED IN WITH OUR PARKS AND TRAILS SYSTEMS AND IT'LL BE A NICE CLOSE VICINITY TO THE THROUGH THE SCHOOL.

SO WE'RE EXPECTING TO HAVE A LOT OF GOOD TIMES IN THOSE PARKS AND ON THOSE BALL FIELDS.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. THIS IS THE PLAT OR THE SURVEY OF THE SCHOOL SITE, IT'S A LITTLE JUST BARELY OVER 10 ACRES AND THAT AGREEMENT, OF COURSE, HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR A WHILE.

I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU ON THE TIMELINE IN A MINUTE WHAT IT TAKES TO GET US TO CLOSING ON THAT. BUT ESSENTIALLY, IT'S ABOUT SEPTEMBER.

WE'RE LOOKING AT ABOUT SEPTEMBER OF 2023 TO BE ABLE TO HAND THAT OVER TO THE SCHOOL, TO THE CISD. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

WE DO HAVE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, THERE'S ABOUT RIGHT AROUND 90 ACRES OF OPEN SPACE AND GREEN SPACE, WE DO INTEND TO BEAUTIFY THE BOTH BEVERLY STREET WITH STREET TREES, AS WELL AS THE APPROACH FROM THE EAST SIDE, WHICH WOULD BE INDUSTRIAL BOULEVARD.

[00:20:01]

SO AS SOON AS YOU START GETTING NORTH ON BEVERLY STREET AND HITTING THAT RED LIGHT AT INDUSTRIAL, YOU'LL START SEEING A LOT MORE GREEN THAN YOU'RE SEEING NOW AND SOME BEAUTIFICATION AS YOU APPROACH INTO THE COMMUNITY.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. WE HAVE A FEW DEPICTIONS, WE'RE WORKING WITH THE TBG, WHO IS THE SAME LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT COMPANY THAT BUILT ALL OF THE VIRIDIAN PARKS, DESIGNED ALL OF THE VIRIDIAN PARKS, AND SO WE'VE BEEN WORKING REALLY CLOSELY WITH THEM.

WHAT YOU'RE SEEING HERE IS A DEPICTION OF THE BEVERLY STREET INDUSTRIAL TURN CIRCLE AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE'S A LOT OF GREEN SPACE THAT'S GOING TO GO IN AROUND THAT, SO IT'LL BE KIND OF SURROUNDED BY PARKS AND AT THE TOP OF THE RAILROAD BRIDGE AT INDUSTRIAL--NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE--YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE THE PARKS JUST TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH OF THAT ROAD, WHICH WILL BE TWO SIGNATURE PARKS.

SO IT SHOULD BE JUST A REALLY BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITY.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. THE PART THAT YOU SEE ON YOUR LEFT, YOU'LL SEE THAT THE STREET'S NAMED BOLDEN AVENUE, THAT'S GOING TO BE JUST SOUTH OF THE SCHOOL, THE IDEA WITH THIS IS THAT'S GOING TO BE LIKE A FITNESS PARK WITH AN EMPHASIS ON EXPLORATION AND SO WHAT WE'LL HAVE A TRAILHEAD THERE THAT CONNECTS TO ALL THE COMMUNITY TRAILS AND WE'LL HAVE A DEDICATION PLAQUE TO GENERAL BOLDEN AND TO EXPLORATION IN GENERAL.

SO THAT'S GOING TO BE A PRETTY NEAT PLACE.

WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT BUILDING THAT.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO THE STATUS RIGHT NOW, AS YOU'RE AWARE, A LITTLE OVER TWO THOUSAND SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL HOMES WILL BE GOING IN THERE.

IT'S GOING TO TAKE APPROXIMATELY 8 TO 10 YEARS TO GET THOSE BUILT-OUT.

THE MOST RECENT MARKET STUDY THAT WE HAVE DONE SHOWED IT WAS SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER ABSORPTION IS WHAT WE CALL IT, IS YOU SELL THESE HOMES AND TO THE TO THE FINAL HOMEOWNERS SIGNIFICANT INCREASE FROM WHEN WE HAD FIRST DONE THAT IN 2017.

PHASE ONE IS GOING TO BE THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN RESIDENTIAL LOTS WITH THE TEN ACRE SCHOOL SITE.

WE'RE WORKING RIGHT NOW, CLOSING ON THE LAND IN PROBABLY A WEEK AND A HALF AND THE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS AND THE PLANNING ARE ALL UNDERWAY.

SO EVERYTHING IS ON TRACK.

WE HAVE A TIMELINE BUILT THAT'S GOING TO GET US TO THAT SEPTEMBER 2023 TIMELINE FOR THE SCHOOL ZONE, FOR THE SCHOOL SITE AND AS YOU'LL AS YOU'LL SEE, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER FROM THE CONTRACT, BUT ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR GETTING THE SCHOOL CLOSED IS THAT WE HAVE TWO HUNDRED CERTIFICATES OF OCCUPANCY ON THE PROJECT SITE.

SO THAT SEPTEMBER 2023 DAY WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF ROOFTOPS AND A LOT OF NEW FAMILIES IN THERE AT THAT TIME.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A COMMENT, TOO, ON THE, YOU KNOW, WITH GETTING THE EQUITY PARTNERS AND THE JOINT VENTURE TOGETHER TO FUND THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN QUITE A QUITE AN ADVENTURE BECAUSE WE HAD TO WEATHER THE COVID SCARES AND ALL THAT STUFF WITH THE INVESTMENT COMMUNITY AND ALL THAT, AS WELL AS ALL OF YOU HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH IT.

RIGHT. SO WE WERE EXPECTING TO CLOSE OVER A YEAR AGO AND OF COURSE, COVID HIT AND THAT KIND OF MESS THINGS UP.

OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH A GROUP CALLED CROSSHARBOR AND CROSSHARBOR WAS THE COMPANY THAT WE JOINT VENTURE WITH ORIGINALLY TO BUILD VIRIDIAN.

SO IT'S REALLY NEAT TO HAVE THE ENTIRE VIRIDIAN TEAM, EVERYBODY FROM THE DESIGNERS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE EQUITY PARTNERS.

VIRIDIAN IS HERE.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AS WE WERE TAKING THE EQUITY PARTNERS AROUND TO SEE THE LOCAL MARKET AREA, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY WERE CONTINUALLY ASKING TO LIKE THE SALES REPS AS WE WENT IN AND TOOK A LOOK AT OTHER COMMUNITY MODEL HOMES AND THINGS THEY WOULD ASK ABOUT THE EQUITY PARTNERS WOULD ASK THE LOCAL SALESPEOPLE ABOUT CROWLEY ISD AND IT WAS VERY ENCOURAGING TO HEAR THOSE PEOPLE WHOSE KIDS ARE IN YOUR SCHOOLS SAYING WHAT GREAT MOVES YOU'VE ALL DONE TO IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY AND TO BE ABLE TO HAND OVER TO THESE EQUITY PARTNERS, YOU KNOW, INFORMATION ON YOUR YOUR CAREER TRAINING AND YOUR STEM PROGRAMS AND SHOWING THEM THE

[00:25:06]

SCORE IMPROVEMENTS, WHICH ARE VERY REMARKABLE.

I'M SURE YOU'RE AWARE, THE YEAR BEFORE DR.

MCFARLAND CAME IN TO THE YEAR AFTER HIS FIRST YEAR, THE SCORES WENT UP DRAMATICALLY AND I KNOW THAT'S A CONTINUING TRAJECTORY, THAT ALONG WITH ALL THE MEDIA SPOTS THAT YOU HAVE DR . MCFARLAND'S VISION, YOUTUBE VIDEO AND THOSE THINGS THAT REALLY TELL THE STORY OF CROWLEY ISD WERE REALLY KEY IN HELPING US TO KEEP THIS PROGRAM GOING.

SO I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT WHAT YOU GUYS AS A SCHOOL BOARD HAVE BEEN DOING FOR YOUR STUDENTS AND FOR THE COMMUNITY AND WE WANT TO BRING SOMETHING A COMMUNITY WORTHY OF THAT TO YOU.

SO WE'RE VERY, VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

I THINK THE NEXT SLIDE AS THE TIMELINE IN IT.

SO, YEAH.

ALL RIGHT. THAT'S WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.

SO THAT PHASE ONE GROUNDBREAKING WE'RE LOOKING AT, PROBABLY JUNE.

THEY HAVE GRADING GOING ON OUT THERE.

FIRST HOMES WILL BE COMPLETED SOMEWHERE AROUND THIRD QUARTER OF 2022 AND THE SITE WORK ON THE SCHOOL FINISHED ABOUT THAT SAME TIME AND THEN THIRD QUARTER OF 2023 WILL HAVE THE TWO HUNDRED HOMES AND THAT'S OF COURSE SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE OF THE SCHOOL SITE CLOSING.

SO DO I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR YOU? I KNOW IT'S BEEN A REALLY LONG ROAD.

WE'RE GETTING VERY, VERY CLOSE AND WE'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

I JUST HAD A QUICK QUESTION, BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE THE BEGINNING INTRO, BUT PLEASE REMIND ME, YOUR COMPANY, YOU ARE BUILDING THESE HOMES ARE WITH OTHER PHASES AND OTHER PROPERTIES THEY HAVE HOME BUILDERS TO COME IN.

HAVE YOU CONTRACTED WITH HOME BUILDERS TO DECIDE WHO IS GETTING TO BUILD ON YOUR SITE OR IS THAT YOUR COMPANY? SO WE ARE THE DEVELOPER.

SO WE PLAN ALL THE HORIZONTAL WORK AND THE AMENITIES.

WE BUILD THE STREETS, WE DECIDE WHERE THE ROADS GO.

WE PUT IN ALL THE UTILITIES IN THE PARKS AND ALL THOSE THINGS.

WE HAVE ALREADY AND AGAIN, THIS IS A TESTIMONY TO YOUR COMMUNITY AND HOW WELL YOU'RE DOING. WE'VE SOLD EVERY LOT IN PHASE ONE ALREADY AND THE BUILDERS THAT WE'RE BRINGING ALONG WITH US ARE DAVID WEEKLEY, ISLAND HOMES, VILLAGE HOMES, CHESMAR AND CADENCE.

SO WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CHESMAR, THESE ARE BUILDERS WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN VIRIDIAN AND I'M SORRY, VILLAGE HAS NOT, BUT THEY'RE OUT IN WALSH RANCH, AND DOING A REALLY, REALLY GOOD JOB. BUT THESE ARE VERY GOOD PEOPLE.

WE BELIEVE IN CHARACTER FIRST AND THAT USUALLY TENDS TO BRING ALONG A REALLY GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT ALONG WITH IT.

WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE THE VIRIDIAN BUILDING TEAM COMING DOWN WITH US.

SO I THINK WE'LL HAVE COMING UP PROBABLY SUMMER TIME, WE'RE GOING TO START HAVING THE WEBSITE UP THAT WILL SHOW HOMES AND MODEL HOMES WILL START GOING UP PROBABLY ABOUT A YEAR FROM NOW AND WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU GUYS.

I'M SURE WE'LL DO A GROUNDBREAKING AND INVITE YOU GUYS OUT FOR THAT.

AND I THINK WE'LL HAVE OUR BUILDERS OUT THERE AT THAT TIME AS WELL.

SO THAT'LL BE A PRETTY NEAT EVENT.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DR.

M. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM TRUSTEES? I'M JUST WONDERING, ARE YOU STILL THINKING THE INITIAL PRICE POINT, I MEAN, WHAT IS THAT? THE MARKET SEEMS TO HAVE INCREASED QUITE A BIT SINCE WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION.

ARE YOU STILL LOOKING AT SOMETHING IN THE 200'S OR? WE ARE AND THAT'S KIND OF A CORE VALUE OF OURS.

WE REALLY WANT TO CREATE A BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITY THAT DOESN'T, YOU KNOW, ARTIFICIALLY CREATE AN ECONOMIC SEGREGATION.

SO OUR PRICE POINTS ARE FROM THE LOW TO HUNDREDS ALL THE WAY UP INTO THE YOU KNOW, THE INITIAL PLAN IS THE HIGH FOUR HUNDREDS.

THOSE WILL MOVE OVER TIME, BUT OUR INTENTION IS ALWAYS I KNOW THAT ONE WAY WE DO THAT IS THE SMALLER LOT SIZES.

BUT BECAUSE WE PUT IN SUCH HIGH END PARKS AND BEAUTIFUL AMENITIES, PEOPLE DON'T MIND SO

[00:30:07]

MUCH HAVING LESS YARD BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PARK THAT'S JUST RIGHT OUT THE FRONT DOOR.

SO THAT'S THE WAY WE HANDLE THAT AND THE VIRIDIAN TOWNHOMES.

I KNOW A LOT OF YOU VISITED THOSE ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL AND THOSE WHO'VE MAINTAINED AN AFFORDABLE PRICE POINT TO EVEN OUR AVERAGE SALE PRICE.

THIS THIS LAST YEAR, VIRIDIAN WE HAD A RECORD YEAR.

WE SOLD FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY FOUR HOMES UP THERE AND THE AVERAGE SALE PRICE, IF I'M REMEMBERING CORRECTLY, WAS ABOUT 460 TO 80.

BUT MANY OF THOSE WERE THE TOWN HOMES THAT ARE VIRIDIAN AND NOW, YOU KNOW, IT'S KIND OF IT'S RAISED A LOT, BUT THOSE ARE RIGHT AROUND THREE HUNDRED FOR THE FOR THE TOWN HOMES.

BUT WE'RE STARTING AT THE LOW TWO HUNDREDS, LIKE 215-220 IS OUR TARGET [INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION, MR. [INAUDIBLE] ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM TRUSTEES? WELL, I'M EXCITED, I KNOW A FEW OF US HAVE BEEN WAITING ON THIS PROJECT A LONG TIME, AND EVEN THOUGH WE'RE A YEAR BEHIND, I THINK WE'VE ALL KIND OF I THINK THAT WAS A FORGOTTEN YEAR FOR EVERYONE. AT LEAST EVERYONE IS TRYING TO FORGET IT.

SO WE APPRECIATE YOU STICKING WITH THE PROJECT AND BRINGING IT TO FRUITION AND ALSO CONTEMPLATING THE QUALITY AND EXCELLENCE THAT WE'RE GOING FOR HERE IN CROWLEY ISD AND MAKING IT COMPATIBLE TO OUR COMMUNITY.

BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT, MR. CARSON AND HIS TEAM DO AN EXCELLENT JOB AT CAPTURING AND TELLING OUR STORY AND SO WE DEFINITELY WANT TO BRING A COMMUNITY WHERE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A SCHOOL THAT'S BEEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THAT LEVEL OF EXPECTATION.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRESENTATION TONIGHT, MR. JORDAN.

ONE MORE THING TO SAY IS, YOU KNOW, ON MY TOURS WITH THE EQUITY GROUPS TAKING THEM OVER TO JUNE DAVIS ELEMENTARY OVER AND ACROSS THE WAY IN CHISHOLM TRAIL, EVERYONE WAS IMPRESSED WITH THAT AND YOU GUYS DID A GREAT JOB WITH THAT.

IT'S BEAUTIFUL ARCHITECTURE.

THE WAY THAT IT WORKS IN WITH THE HILLSIDE IS AMAZING AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU DO IN KARIS.

WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, THIS BRINGS US TO OUR AGENDA ITEM SEVEN POINT TWO ACADEMIC BOARD GOAL UPDATE.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, LAST YEAR OR YEAR BEFORE LAST, WE BEGAN TO HAVE THESE CONVERSATIONS AROUND ACADEMIC BOARD GOALS.

WE STARTED OUR LOADSTAR GOVERNANCE PROCESS AND REALLY ENGAGED IN IDENTIFYING THOSE GOALS AND SO WE'RE NOT AT THE POINT WHERE WE ARE PREPARED TO BEGIN TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE OF WHERE WE ARE IN RELATION TO THOSE GOALS AND SO WE HAVE MR. KEITH HERE TONIGHT WHO WILL REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

IT REALLY IS AN ITEM WE'RE SHARING WITH YOU WITH THE HOPES THAT YOU'LL GIVE US FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU WILL EXPECT TO SEE IN THE NEXT COMING BOARD MEETING.

SO, MR. KEITH. THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND.

GOOD EVENING. PRESIDENT HULL AND BOARD MEMBERS.

OUR ACADEMIC BOARD UPDATES TONIGHT ADDRESS GOAL ONE, DRIVING STUDENTS AND SO, AS DR.

MCFARLAND MENTIONED, WE KNOW THAT THIS YEAR, ALONG WITH THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN, THE BOARD DID APPROVE FIVE, FOUR GOALS AND THIS WAS IN ALIGNMENT WITH HOUSE BILL THREE, THE ACADEMIC BOARD GOALS ARE WHAT WE CONSIDER THE FIRST FOUR BOARD GOALS.

SO I'M GOING TO DO A QUICK RECAP OF THOSE.

GOAL ONE FOCUSES ON THE PERCENTAGE OF THIRD GRADE AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS MEETING STANDARD ON THE READING STAAR, SO INCREASING THAT FROM TWENTY EIGHT PERCENT TO FORTY EIGHT PERCENT. GOAL TWO IS FOCUS ON ALL THIRD GRADE STUDENTS MEETING STANDARD IN STAAR MATH, MOVING THAT FROM FORTY FIVE TO 60 PERCENT.

GOAL THREE FOCUSES ON FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS MEETING STANDARD ON START READING.

SO SHIFTING THAT FROM FORTY TWO TO FIFTY SEVEN PERCENT.

AN ACADEMIC GOAL FOUR FOCUSES ON INCREASING THE PERCENTAGE OF EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS MEETING STANDARD ON STAAR MATH FROM THIRTY SEVEN TO FIFTY EIGHT PERCENT AND GOAL FIVE OF COURSE IS FOCUSED ON CCMR BUT FOR THE SAKE OF THIS CONVERSATION, WE'RE FOCUSING ON THESE FOUR ACADEMIC BOARD GOALS AND SO AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE NEXT SLIDE, WE JUST WANT TO LAY OUT HOW WE GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF MONITORING THESE GOALS.

SO THERE'S TWO IMPORTANT WAYS TO LOOK AT THE ACADEMIC GOALS.

ONE IS THROUGH A PERFORMANCE LENS AND THEN ONE IS THROUGH A STUDENT GROWTH LENS.

SO IN THIS CHART, YOU CAN SEE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE THE FOUR ACADEMIC BOARD GOALS, READING AND MATH FOR THIRD GRADE, READING FOR FIFTH GRADE AND MATH FOR EIGHTH GRADE AND THESE ARE THE DIFFERENT ASSESSMENTS THAT WE USE TO MEASURE PROGRESS TOWARD THOSE GOALS.

SO YOU'LL SEE MID-YEAR PERFORMANCE.

IN OTHER WORDS, THIS IS JUST HOW MANY STUDENTS HAVE MET THAT STANDARD.

[00:35:03]

WE MEASURE THAT DURING THE YEAR WITH WINTER BENCHMARKS AND THEN YOU'LL NOTICE IN THE THIRD COLUMN WHERE IT SAYS END OF YEAR PERFORMANCE.

OF COURSE, WE MEASURE THAT WITH STAAR.

BUT THEN WE ALSO HAVE A GROWTH MEASUREMENT.

SO A GROWTH MEASUREMENT IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS MEETING A CERTAIN NUMBER OF QUESTIONS. CORRECT.

IT'S ABOUT HOW FAR DID THAT STUDENT GROW IN ONE YEAR? AND WE KNOW THAT IN OUR NEW ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM THAT'S ROLLED OUT OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, STUDENT GROWTH HOLDS JUST AS MUCH, IF NOT MORE WEIGHT, THEN STUDENT PERFORMANCE.

SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE MEASURING STUDENT GROWTH AS WELL.

WE DO THAT MIDDLE OF YEAR WITH OUR NWEA MAP TESTING.

THIS IS OUR UNIVERSAL SCREENER AND WE TAKE A BEGINNING OF YOUR MEASUREMENT OF WHERE STUDENTS ARE COMPARED TO MIDDLE OF YEAR AND THEN AT THE END OF THE YEAR, WE ALSO DO TESTING WITH MAP, BUT THEN FIFTH AND EIGHTH GRADE ALSO HAVE THE STAAR PROGRESS MEASURE SO WE CAN SEE HOW MUCH STUDENTS GREW FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT.

SO THE REASON THIS IS IMPORTANT IS BECAUSE WE'LL BE COMING BACK AT THE MARCH 11TH BOARD MEETING AND WE'LL BE LOOKING MORE CLOSELY AT THESE FOUR ACADEMIC BOARD GOALS AND THE DATA THAT WE HAVE ON THEM FROM BOTH OUR WINTER BENCHMARKS FOR PERFORMANCE AND OUR MAP TESTING FOR GROWTH.

SO BOARD, THIS WILL BE PART OF, LIKE I SAID, OUR MARCH 11TH MEETING AND IF THERE'S ANY ADDITIONAL DATA THAT YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED AS IT PERTAINS TO THIS, TO THESE BOARD GOALS, WE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THAT SO WE CAN MAKE SURE TO BRING THAT BACK.

AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.

THANK YOU, MR. KEITH, FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM TRUSTEE? SO I DO HAVE A QUESTION MR. KEITHA, AND I'M SURE YOU'RE GOING TO DO THIS, I JUST PRESUME IT.

WHEN YOU BRING THAT DATA BACK IN MARCH, YOU WILL HAVE SET EXPECTATIONS OF WHERE YOU EXPECT IT TO BE IN COMPARISON TO LAST YEAR, RIGHT? NOT SO MUCH IN REFERENCE TO THESE GOALS THAT WE HAVE BECAUSE THEY'RE BASED ON STAAR, BUT YOU'LL BE PRESENTING BENCHMARK DATA AND EXPECTATIONS FOR GROWTH.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE WITH REGARDS TO THE DATA FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR OR PREVIOUS PERFORMANCE? SO JUST TO MAKE SURE I'M CLEAR.

SO LIKE LOOKING AT A COMPARISON OF 2019 BENCHMARK COMPARED TO 2020 BENCHMARK? ABSOLUTELY. AND GIVING US SOME IDEA BECAUSE WE KNOW, WELL I GUESS WE ARE TAKING STAAR THIS YEAR, SO I GUESS WE'LL HAVE SOMETHING TO MEASURE TOO.

BUT WE HAVE THAT GAP FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

I GUESS JUST TRYING TO GET SOME TYPE OF CONTEXT SINCE WE DON'T HAVE THAT, THAT, THAT STAAR IN THE MIDDLE IS, I GUESS, WHAT I'M ASKING.

ABSOLUTELY AND WE THINK THAT'S ONE OF THE KEY WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO FOCUS ON THIS MID-YEAR GOAL MONITORING AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THOSE UPDATES, BECAUSE WE DID HAVE THAT STAAR GAP LAST YEAR.

THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? ALL RIGHT, WELL, I GUESS WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT THE DATA LOOKS LIKE IN MARCH. WE'LL SEE YOU BACK THEN.

ALL RIGHT. THIS MOVES US TO OUR AGENDA ITEM SEVEN POINT THREE, CAREER IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION UPDATE.

DR. MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING THIS NEXT ITEM.

WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE INVESTED QUITE A BIT IN OUR CAREER IN TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION ON THE PROGRAM AND SO WE THOUGHT IT'D BE PRUDENT FOR US NOW TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON WHERE WE ARE TODAY AND WHAT OUR SUCCESSES HAVE BEEN AND REALLY WHERE WE'RE GOING.

WE HAVE MS. KUNSCHIK HERE PREPARED TO REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

MS. KUNSCHIK. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT HALL.

DR. MCFARLAND, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

IT IS AN HONOR TO BE HERE TONIGHT TO TALK ABOUT CTE AND THIS REPORT DOES RELATE TO GOAL ONE DRIVING STUDENTS.

SO I'M PLEASED TO SAY THAT WE HAVE GROWN THIS YEAR IN CTE ENROLLMENT BY THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE STUDENTS.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE TWENTY SEVEN PROGRAMS OF STUDY, WE'LL BE ADDING TWO ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS IN THE FALL OF 2021 AND THOSE ARE AVIATION FLIGHT AND AVIATION MAINTENANCE.

WE ALSO CURRENTLY HAVE SIX PROGRAMS THAT ARE ARTICULATED FOR DUAL-CREDIT WITH TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE. SO DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER AND JANUARY, ALL TWENTY SEVEN OF OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY PARTNERED TOGETHER TO DO ZOOM MEETINGS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL FAMILIES SO THEY COULD LOOK BOTH AT THE CITY CENTER AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL OF OUR OUR STUDENTS THROUGHOUT CROWLEY ISD AND THESE RECORDINGS, FULL LENGTH RECORDINGS OVER 10 HOURS ARE LOCATED ON THE BILL R.

JOHNSON WEBSITE, AS WELL AS THE CTE WEBSITE.

BUT WE DID JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU JUST A SHORT SNIPPET SO YOU COULD SEE WHAT THOSE LOOK LIKE.

[00:40:59]

SO THAT WAS ABOUT A MINUTE IN LENGTH, BUT LIKE I SAID, THERE'S OVER 10 HOURS OUT THERE ON THE WEBSITE, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO WATCH THOSE AND YOU KNOW, WHAT'S SO EXCITING ABOUT THOSE TO ME IS IT'S NOT ONLY TEACHERS THAT WERE TALKING ABOUT THEIR PROGRAMS OF STUDY, IT WAS ALSO STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES.

SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT.

SO WHAT WE WANTED TO DO TONIGHT IS WE WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY.

WE HAVE TWENTY SEVEN PROGRAMS OF STUDY WE COULD DO THIS WITH, BUT I KNOW OUR TIME IS SHORT IN THE BOARD MEETING, SO WE PICKED OUT JUST A FEW AND SO THE FIRST ONE IS ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING.

OUR CURRENT ENROLLMENT IS TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN STUDENTS.

ENGINEERING DOES FOLLOW A CURRICULUM CALLED PROJECT LEAD THE WAY.

THAT IS A NATIONAL CURRICULUM WITH PARTNERS SUCH AS CHEVRON, LOCKHEED MARTIN, JOHN DEERE, TOYOTA, VERIZON, BELL AND THE PARTICULAR CURRICULUM IS A HANDS ON CURRICULUM WITH REAL WORLD APPLICATION AND THAT'S WHAT WE TRY TO ACHIEVE IN ALL OF OUR PROGRAMMING IS THAT HANDS-ON WITH REAL WORLD APPLICATION.

THE COMPONENTS OF A QUALITY PROGRAM IS THAT YOU HAVE CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION WITH CREDENTIALED INSTRUCTORS WHO HAVE INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE, YOU HAVE AN INDUSTRY ADVISORY TEAM, INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND DO YOU MIND GOING BACK? THANK YOU. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, EXTRA AND CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND POST-SECONDARY CREDENTIALING MEANING THAT STUDENTS LEAVE THE PROGRAM OF STUDY EITHER WITH DUAL-CREDIT HOURS OR WITH AN INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION.

SO WHEN WE LOOK AT ENGINEERING, YOU CAN SEE OUR INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

YOU ALSO CAN SEE THE ADVISORY TEAM FOR THIS YEAR AND THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE WORKING CLOSELY WITH THAT PROGRAM OF STUDY.

IN THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE'VE HAD THIRTY EIGHT STUDENTS IN ENGINEERING WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN INTERNSHIPS.

THAT HAS BEEN CHALLENGING WITH COVID.

BUT I'M PLEASED TO SAY THAT WE ARE FINDING WAYS FOR STUDENTS TO DO THAT.

THANK YOU, MR. [INAUDIBLE] SO THAT PARTICULAR INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS THAT OUR ENGINEERING STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT FOR OUR LISTED HERE AND IN THE PAST YEAR, TWENTY SEVEN STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED ONE OF THESE CERTIFICATIONS WE HAVE NOT TESTED THIS YEAR, BUT WE WILL BE TESTING IN ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY COMING UP.

SO, LIKE WE SAID, ONE OF THE COMPONENTS OF A QUALITY CTE PROGRAM IS NOT ONLY WHAT HAPPENS IN SCHOOL, BUT ALSO WHAT HAPPENS, EXTRACURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR AND IN ENGINEERING, THERE ARE THREE OPPORTUNITIES.

ONE IS THE FIRST TECH CHALLENGE, ROBOTICS COMPETITION.

THIS IS A NATIONAL COMPETITION WHERE A TEAM OF STUDENTS DESIGNS BUILDS AND COMPETES WITH A ROBOT. THE OTHER IS THE SOLAR CAR TEAM CHALLENGE AND THIS IS AN ACTIVITY WHERE STUDENTS CAN START THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR AND WORK ALL THE WAY THROUGH THEIR SENIOR YEAR.

THEY DESIGN, ENGINEER, BUILD AND RAISE A SOLAR CAR AND AGAIN, THAT IS A TEAM CHALLENGE AND THEN FINALLY, ONE OF THE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES IS THE BELL VERTICAL ROBOTIC OR ALSO KNOWN AS DROME COMPETITION, WHERE STUDENTS PROGRAM A DRONE AND PARTICIPATE IN AN OBSTACLE CHALLENGE. THE REALLY COOL THING ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ACTIVITY IS THEY ARE WORKING CLOSELY WITH AN ENGINEER FROM BELL THROUGHOUT THAT COMPETITIVE CYCLE.

SO ANOTHER PROGRAM OF STUDY THAT WE WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT IS LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LEGAL STUDIES AND LAW ENFORCEMENT SPLITS INTO TWO DIFFERENT CAREER PATHWAYS.

LAW ENFORCEMENT ITSELF FOCUSES ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND FIELDS SUCH AS POLICE OFFICER PROBATION CORRECTIONAL, WHILE LEGAL STUDIES IS MORE FOCUSED ON COURT OCCUPATIONS SUCH AS BEING AN ATTORNEY. AGAIN, HERE WE HAVE OUR INTERNSHIPS, OUR ADVISORY TEAM.

[00:45:01]

WE HAVE HAD TWENTY TWO STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN INTERNSHIPS IN THE PAST TWO YEARS.

IT HAS BEEN CHALLENGING DURING COVID FOR STUDENTS TO GO OUT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES WHEN WE SAY WE HAVE AN ADVISORY TEAM IN CTE.

THE ROLE OF THAT ADVISORY TEAM IS TO PROVIDE ADVICE ON CURRICULUM TO MAKE SURE THAT THE INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE PURSUING ARE PURSUING HAVE VALUE IN THE WORKFORCE AND ALSO TO GIVE GUIDANCE TO OUR TEACHERS ON HOW TO TEACH THE CURRICULUM AND SO ALL OF OUR INDUSTRY ADVISORY TEAMS MEET WITH THEIR PROGRAMS OF STUDY AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR, A MINIMUM OF TWICE A YEAR.

THANK YOU, MR. H. AND SO THEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LEGAL STUDIES, THE POST SECONDARY CREDENTIALING THAT STUDENTS CAN GET IS LISTED HERE AND YOU SEE A PICTURE OF OUR BEAUTIFUL NEW COURTROOM. WE ARE SO PROUD OF THAT.

IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, WE'VE HAD ONE HUNDRED AND NINETEEN STUDENTS WHO HAVE CREDENTIALED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND YOU'LL SEE THAT WE ALSO HAVE A DUAL-CREDIT OFFERING THAT LEADS TO AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE WITH TARRANT COUNTY.

THIS IS OUR VERY FIRST YEAR TO HAVE THAT.

SO WE HAVE A COHORT OF 10TH GRADERS IN THAT PARTICULAR ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.

WE ARE STARTING A COHORT OF NINTH GRADERS NEXT YEAR AND WE ALSO HAVE SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO JOIN AND WANT TO GET CAUGHT UP IN THAT ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE SO THEY CAN LEAVE TUITION FREE WITH AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THIS PARTNERSHIP AND THEN WHAT YOU SEE HERE, LIKE WE SAID, CO-CURRICULAR, EXTRACURRICULAR IS SO IMPORTANT TO EVERY PROGRAM OF STUDY.

SO IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LEGAL STUDIES, THESE ARE SEVERAL OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT STUDENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TPSA, THE TEXAS PUBLIC SERVICE ASSOCIATION AND YOU HAVE VARIOUS COMPETITIVE EVENTS LISTED THERE, SKILLS USA, WHICH IS A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION, AND THEN OUR STUDENTS ALSO PARTICIPATE IN THE YMCA MOCK TRIAL AND THE DALLAS BAR MOCK TRIAL COMPETITIONS.

THE NEXT PROGRAM OF STUDY WE WANTED TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION IS CULINARY ARTS, AND WE CURRENTLY HAVE THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CULINARY ARTS.

YOU SEE THEIR ADVISORY TEAM AND AGAIN, THEY MEET WITH THIS ADVISORY TEAM AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR. IT'S CRITICAL THAT WE HEAR FROM INDUSTRY TO IMPACT WHAT WE'RE DOING IN CLASSROOMS, OUR INTERNSHIPS.

WE HAVE A STUDENT-RUN BISTRO THAT SERVES STUDENTS DURING THE DAY.

WE ALSO HAVE A STUDENT RUN RESTAURANT AND WE HOPE TO HAVE A SOFT OPENING OF THAT IN MARCH 2020 AND CANNOT WAIT TO HOST YOU GUYS.

STUDENTS ALSO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY EVENTS AND CATERING AND SOME OF THE CATERING OPPORTUNITIES OR COMMUNITY EVENTS THAT THEY'VE PARTICIPATED IN MOST RECENTLY, CITY OF CRAWLEY, THE RIDGELEY COUNTRY CLUB, JULIE MITCHELL'S WOMEN'S CLUB, SOUTHERN BEST CATERING, THE FORT WORTH FOOD AND WINE FEST.

THEY DO A LOT OF PREP WORK FOR LOCAL CHEFS, AND I'M PLEASED TO SAY THEY'RE CATERING THE BLACK HISTORY BOWL TOMORROW AND OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, WE HAVE HAD FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETEEN STUDENTS WHO HAVE CATERED EVENTS COMING FROM OUR CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM.

THE CERTIFICATIONS THAT STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE IN CULINARY ARTS ARE SERV SAFE FOOD HANDLER, THAT'S AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THEIR PROGRAM BEFORE THEY SERVE FOOD AND THEN AT THE END OF THEIR PROGRAM, THEY DO CREDENTIAL IN SERV SAFE KITCHEN MANAGER THAT ALLOWS THEM TO HAVE THAT PARTICULAR CERTIFICATION TO GO OUT AND BE EMPLOYED.

AND WE HAVE HAD FIFTY SEVEN STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN CREDENTIALED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS AS KITCHEN MANAGER. AND THESE ARE THE DIFFERENT CAREER AND TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND COMPETITIONS THAT ARE CULINARY STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN EACH YEAR.

NOW, I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEXT SECTION OF THE PRESENTATION, WE OFTEN SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE IN CROWLEY ISD, BUT WE DON'T GET TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY LEAVE US.

SO THE NEXT PART OF OUR PRESENTATION IS FOCUSING ON OUR ALUMNI.

SO ON THIS PARTICULAR SLIDE, WHAT WE HAVE IS WE HAVE SIX TEACHERS AND CROWLEY ISD WHO WENT THROUGH OUR EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM AND NOW ARE TEACHING IN OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN CISD.

MS. GARCIA-MEDRANO, WHO'S AT TEACHING MONTESSORI AT SUE CROUCH.

SHE'S A BRAND NEW TEACHER THIS YEAR AND YOU CAN SEE OUR SIX GRADUATES.

SO WE'RE SUPER PLEASED TO HAVE THEM BACK IN CROWLEY ISD.

THANK YOU, MR. HANDY. WE REACHED OUT TO SOME OF OUR RECENT GRADUATES IN THE LAST YEAR, WHO GRADUATED FROM ENGINEERING AND WANTED TO SEE WHERE ARE YOU? AND WE FOUND WE HAD FOUR RESPONSES.

[00:50:02]

ALL OF THEM ARE STUDYING ENGINEERING, EITHER AT UTA, TEXAS A&M OR TCU AS A STEM SCHOLAR.

THREE OF THOSE WERE LOCKHEED INTERNS WHEN THEY WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THEY'RE CONTINUING WITH LOCKHEED DURING COLLEGE AND THE WAY THAT AGREEMENT WORKS IN OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCKHEED, IF THEY ACHIEVE AN INTERNSHIP DURING HIGH SCHOOL, IF THINGS GO WELL, THEY'RE INVITED BACK TO AN INTERNSHIP IN COLLEGE AND THEN INVITED BACK TO BE AN ENGINEER AND WE HAVE TWO QUOTES HERE. I HOPE YOU'LL INDULGE ME.

I JUST WANT TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME AND TELL YOU WHAT THESE STUDENTS SAID.

ONE STUDENT SAID, I HOPE THINGS ARE GOING WELL WITH THE CTE.

I'VE DRIVEN PAST THE NEW BUILDING AND IT LOOKS QUITE NICE.

I'D LOVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR PROGRAM IN ANY WAY I CAN AND I WANT TO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL THE EFFORTS YOU MADE ON OUR BEHALF.

I LOVE MY CONTINUED INTERNSHIP AT LOCKHEED AND ALL THE EXPERIENCES THAT COME ALONG WITH IT AND HAVE YOU TO THANK AND THEN ANOTHER STUDENT SAID, I'M DEFINITELY STILL USING SEVERAL CONCEPTS AND SOFTWARE THAT I LEARNED AT BRJ IN MY CURRENT CLASSES.

I'VE USED, SOLIDWORKS, 3D PRINTERS DEALT WITH TRUSSES, CIRCUITS AND EVEN TRANSFERRED C++ CODING SKILLS FROM YOUR ROBOTICS CLASS TO PYTHON.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR US AND THEN ON OUR NEXT TWO SLIDES, WE STARTED REACHING OUT TO THOSE WHO HAD GONE THROUGH THE LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM AND WE JUST HAD SUCH A TREMENDOUS RESPONSE.

SO WE WANT TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THESE ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

JENNIFER, SHE GRADUATED FROM UTA WITH A B.S.

IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN DECEMBER 2020.

SHE JUST GRADUATED FROM THE POLICE ACADEMY IN FORT WORTH.

FRANK WAS A LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENT.

WHILE HE WAS WITH US, HE DID AN INTERNSHIP AT THE TARRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, HAS STAYED THERE AND WAS RECENTLY PROMOTED TO A FIELD TRAINING OFFICER.

DIAMOND, ONE OF OUR STUDENTS, IS NOW IN THE MILITARY SERVING IN THE MILITARY POLICE.

CHRISTINA GONZALEZ IS AN INTERN AT A LAW OFFICE.

SHE HOPES TO ENTER LAW SCHOOL IN FALL OF 2022.

SEVERAL YEARS AGO, WE HAD A MOCK TRIAL TEAM THAT COMPETED ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER IT, SHE WAS ONE OF THOSE STUDENTS AND THEN AMAYA WAS ALSO ONE OF THOSE STUDENTS, SHE HAS CONTINUED COMPETING IN MOCK TRIAL AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL AND IS GETTING A LOT OF ACCOLADES AND A LOT OF RECOGNITION OF WHAT SHE'S DOING AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL IN MOCK TRIAL AND PLANS ON ENTERING LAW SCHOOL.

JOSEPH GRADUATED FROM THE ACADEMY AND WORKS FOR TARRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT.

ERIC WAS A CTE LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENT, IS NOW A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER IN TARRANT COUNTY, AND THEN ZARA WAS ONE OF OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENTS.

SHE ALSO IS ONE OF THOSE STUDENTS THAT RUN THAT MOCK TRIAL TEAM THAT WENT TO NATIONALS.

SHE GRADUATED FROM TEXAS WESLEYAN WITH A DOUBLE MAJOR IN GLOBAL STUDIES AND ENGLISH.

SHE WAS THE FIRST FEMALE STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT TO SERVE TWO TERMS OF TEXAS WESLEYAN.

SHE'S NOW IN D.C.

WORKING FOR CONGRESSMAN MARK BEASLEY AT THE US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND PURSUING A MASTER'S AT JOHN HOPKINS AND I LOVE THAT PICTURE OF HER IN THE TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER WITH OUR PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT BIDEN.

SO I WANT TO SAY WE'RE EXTREMELY PROUD OF THE WORK OUR TEACHERS ARE DOING UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF DR. WARFIELD AND JUST PLEASED TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO BRING THESE TO YOU TONIGHT AND WOULD LOVE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR TAKE ANY COMMENTS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MS. DUVALL MOST OF ALL, FOR YOUR UPDATE, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM OUR BOARD? I THINK TRUSTEE BENTON, SHE LEANED IN.

AND I APOLOGIZE, THERE'S A STORM GOING ON WHERE I AM.

SO IF IT'S THUNDERING, I APOLOGIZE.

BUT MOST OF ALL, I JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU ESPECIALLY FOR PROVIDING THE UPDATE.

I KNOW IT WAS PROBABLY HARD MAYBE TO TRACK DOWN THE ALUMNI, BUT HEARING I MEAN, WHAT A TESTAMENT THAT IS TO THE DIRECT CONNECTION BETWEEN WHAT WE'RE OFFERING AND CROWLEY ISD AND THEN WHERE AN ADULT MAY LAND AND SO IT WAS REALLY, REALLY NICE TO HEAR FROM THOSE PREVIOUS STUDENTS. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INCLUDING THAT IN YOUR REPORT.

THANK YOU, MS. BENTON. I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MY FELLOW TRUSTEE BENTON; IT'S DEFINITELY [INAUDIBLE] TO SEE IF THE REAL LIFE IMPLICATIONS AND NOT JUST THE NUMBERS OF HOW OUR STUDENTS ARE LANDING.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT HUMAN ELEMENT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS? OK, I THINK EVERYONE IS JUST EXHAUSTED FROM LAST WEEK.

ARE WE ALL SURVIVING TONIGHT? THIS IS THE MOST QUIET CISD BOARD MEETING I HAVE EVER ATTENDED.

BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR [INAUDIBLE] TONIGHT AND GIVING US THE UPDATE.

I DO HAVE JUST ONE QUESTION FOR YOU MS. DUVALL WITH REGARDS TO US BEING IN THE NEW CTE CENTER.

SO I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS.

ONE, DOES THAT MEAN THAT OUR PROGRAMS ARE ABLE TO BE LARGER THAN THEY WERE PREVIOUSLY IN THE OTHER BUILDING? THAT INCREASE OUR CAPACITY AT ALL FOR OUR STUDENTS IN PROGRAMS?

[00:55:02]

OR MAYBE JUST THE NUMBER OF PROGRAMS? I DID INCREASE BOTH OUR CAPACITY AND ALSO OUR ABILITY TO BE MORE REAL WORLD HANDS ON.

OK, THANK YOU FOR THAT ANSWER AND THEN , RECRUITMENT FOR THESE PROGRAMS IN THE VIRTUAL SPACE.

SO FOR PARENTS LIKE ME WHO GET THE EMAIL, I MEAN, ON TIME, I RECEIVE THE EMAIL, I READ THE EMAIL LATE. HOW ARE WE MARKETING OUR RECRUITING OUR STUDENTS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE PROGRAMS IN THE CASES THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SEEING AT OUR CAMPUSES ON A DAILY BASIS. SO SEVERAL DIFFERENT WAYS.

WE WORK VERY CLOSELY WITH MS. HARRIS, SPECIFICALLY THE ZOOM MARKETING THAT WE HAD.

WE ALSO ARE DOING VIRTUAL TOURS DURING THE DAY WITH MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND THEN WE'VE WORKED WITH OUR TEACHERS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL TO CONNECT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS AND SO THEY'VE BEEN DOING ZOOM SESSIONS.

WE HAVE VERY DETAILED INFORMATION IN THE NEW COURSE DESCRIPTION GUIDE AS WELL AS WE HAVE AN UPDATED WEBSITE AND SO THAT'S JUST WHAT WE'VE DONE UP TO FEBRUARY.

SO WE'LL CONTINUE DOING A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS THROUGHOUT THE SPRING.

OUR COUNSELORS HAVE BEEN AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

OUR COUNSELORS HAVE BEEN AT THE HIGH SCHOOL OFFERING INFORMATION.

SO ANYTHING WE CAN DO? WELL, I APPRECIATE IT AND NOTHING BETTER THAN A CALL OUT.

IF I MISSED THE EMAIL, I ALWAYS GET THE MESSAGE.

SO I APPRECIATE ALL THE EFFORTS THAT YOU'RE TAKING TO GET THE WORD OUT.

THANK YOU. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? TRUSTEE DAVIS? I DO HAVE SOMETHING THAT YOU SAID TRIGGERED A COMMENT.

SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS IN GRADE SIX, COULD YOU JUST TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT? SURE, ABSOLUTELY.

SO OUR SIXTH GRADERS ACTUALLY HAVE A COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS COURSE.

IN THAT COURSE, THEY'RE EXPOSED TO ALL OF THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS OF STUDY.

SO WE HAVE A CURRICULUM THAT'S FOCUSED ON OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY AND THEY RECEIVE GUIDANCE AND THEN STARTING TO GO INTO SEVENTH GRADE.

THEY WORK WITH THE COUNSELORS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BEFORE THEY CHOOSE AN ENDORSEMENT IN EIGHTH GRADE. OK, THANK YOU.

I ASK BECAUSE I WAS VISITING WITH A PARENT OF A SIXTH GRADER AND SHE WAS VERY, VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE GROWTH IN HER SON.

HE WAS IN PRIVATE SCHOOL AND SHE BROUGHT HIM TO US THIS YEAR AND HE RECEIVED THAT INFORMATION, OR HE COMPLETED THAT FORM AND SHE SAID PRIOR TO THAT, HE HAD NO CLUE WHAT HE WANTED TO DO. NOW HE DOES, SINCE HE HAS BEEN WITH US AND FILLED OUT THAT INFORMATION OR IS INVOLVED SOMEHOW IN A PROGRAM, HE HAS DIRECTION NOW AND SHE COULD NOT BE MORE PROUD OF HER SON FIRST AND THEN OF WHAT THE DISTRICT HAS AFFORDED HIM.

SO KUDOS FOR THAT.

THANK YOU, MS. DAVIS. WE'LL PASS THAT ALONG TO OUR SIXTH GRADE TEACHERS.

THANK YOU FOR THAT. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS? OR QUESTIONS? WELL, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR PRESENTATION, TONIGHT MS. DUVALL. KEEP US POSTED ABOUT THOSE NUMBERS.

ALL RIGHT, THIS MOVES US TO AGENDA ITEM SEVEN POINT FOUR EQUITY QUARTERLY REVIEW, DR.

MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS EQUITY QUARTERLY REVIEW.

WE KNOW THAT YOU ALL HAVE MADE THIS A PRIORITY.

WE'VE MADE THIS A PRIORITY, AND IT'S JUST EXCITING TO SEE PROGRESS AND SO WE HAVE MS. KUNSCHIK HERE TONIGHT TO SHARE WITH US THE EQUITY QUALITY REVIEW.

THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT HALL, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT DR.

MCFARLAND. YES, THIS EVENING I HAVE THE GREAT PLEASURE TO PRESENT THE EQUITY QUARTERLY REPORT THAT ALIGNS TO GOAL ONE DRIVING STUDENTS AND GOAL TWO EMPOWER STAFF.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PRESENTATION IS TO UPDATE THE BOARD ON THE PROGRESS THE DISTRICT HAS MADE TO BRIDGE INEQUITIES IN PROGRAMMATIC EXPOSURE FOR SAID SUBPOPULATION OF STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD.

BEFORE I BEGIN THE PRESENTATION [INAUDIBLE] THE FIRST PRESENTATION OF THE SLIDE, I WOULD LIKE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN INTEGRAL IN THIS PROCESS OF SYSTEMIC CHANGE WITH THE FOCUS ON EQUITY.

WE HAVE BOARD MEMBERS WHO ARE SEATED HERE TODAY TRUSTEE LA TONYA WOODSON- MAYFIELD TRUSTEE, MR. RYAN RAY AND TRUSTEE MS. NEDRA ROBINSON, WHO ALONG WITH OUR SUPERINTENDENT, HAVE BEEN A CONTINUED VOICE OF

[01:00:04]

GUIDANCE WHILE SEATED ON THE DISTRICT EQUITY COMMITTEE TEAM.

WE ALSO HAVE THE DISTRICT EQUITY ACTION TEAM MEMBERS, AND THEY ARE KNOWN AS THE DEEP TEAM WHO CONTINUE TO CARRY THE INITIATIVES INTO ACTIONABLE ITEMS WITH RESULTS THAT I WILL SHARE TODAY. THE WORK OF EQUITY IS NOT A LINEAR PROCESS, AND IT INVOLVES MANY COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS AND I FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO STOP AND SAY THANK YOU TO THOSE MEMBERS WHO GIVE US CONTINUED GUIDANCE, THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND AND THOSE OF THE [INAUDIBLE] TEAM THAT ARE MOVING THIS INITIATIVE FORWARD.

I'M HAPPY TO TRANSITION INTO THE SLIDES THAT WILL TELL US THE STORY OF HOW OUR KIDS ARE WINNING IN THIS DISTRICT OF CROWLEY ISD AS WE MOVE OUR DISCIPLINED THINKING AND CONVERSATION INTO DISCIPLINED ACTION IN THE AREA OF EQUITY.

SO IN THE FIRST SLIDE, IT IS MERELY A QUICK REMINDER OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORK.

THERE ARE TWO DRIVING DOCUMENTS THAT TOGETHER HAVE GIVEN US DIRECTION AS AN EQUITY TEAM.

THAT IS THE AUDIT OF TWENTY EIGHTEEN, AS YOU RECALL, AND AS A CONTINUUM TO THAT AUDIT, A THREE YEAR TREND REPORT THAT WE PULLED FROM '17-18, '18-19, TO '19-20.

SO WITHIN THESE REPORTS WE ASKED OURSELVES, HAVE WE GIVEN MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDENTS OF SUBPOPULATION GROUPS EQUITABLY IN THE AREA OF PRE ADVANCED PLACEMENT, ADVANCED PLACEMENT ONRAMPS, SAT/ACT, DUAL-CREDIT, ALL OF WHICH WE WOULD ALL AGREE ENHANCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FUTURE.

ONCE AGAIN, ON THE RIGHT SIDE, WE LISTED OTHER PROGRAMS THAT WERE EVALUATED, THAT OF GIFTED AND TALENTED CAREER IN TECHNOLOGY, IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION AND OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION. FROM THESE TWO REPORTS SURFACED TWO RESOUNDING STATEMENTS THAT NOT ONLY WERE PRESENT IN THE AUDIT, BUT ALSO RESONATED IN THE THREE YEAR TREND REPORT AND THESE OVERARCHING STATEMENTS WERE THAT, ONE, THERE WAS AN OVERREPRESENTATION OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS IN DISCIPLINARY SITUATIONS AND IN CONTRAST TO THAT AND UNDERREPRESENTATION OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN ADVANCED ACADEMICS PROGRAMS. WHAT I RESTATED HERE IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORK THAT WE ARE PRODUCING, INEQUITY THIS ACADEMIC YEAR FROM MOVING THE KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF DISPARITIES IN THESE SUBPOPULATION GROUPS AND DRIVING THOUGHT INTO ACTIONABLE ITEMS THAT PROMOTE SYSTEMIC CHANGE TO BRIDGE THE DISPARITY.

I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER A FEW SECONDS TO NOTE IF OUR ESTEEMED BOARD MEMBERS HAVE QUESTIONS OR A REFLECTIVE THOUGHT BEFORE I TRANSITION INTO THE PROGRAMMATIC PRESENTATION.

OK, SO IN THE FIRST IN THE NEXT SLIDE, WE WILL REVIEW THE PROGRESS MADE IN GIFTED AND TALENTED.

THE DISTRICT SET TWO EQUITY GOALS TO ENSURE INCREASE IN SUBPOPULATION GROUPS THAT SURFACED FROM THE REPORT. I'LL EXTEND A FEW SECONDS FOR THE BOARD TO READ GOAL ONE AND GOAL TWO TO YOURSELVES, PLEASE. SO YOU WILL NOTE IN GOAL ONE THAT WE SOUGHT TO INCREASE AFRICAN-AMERICAN PARTICIPATION IN GIFTED AND TALENTED BY 78 STUDENTS TO BRIDGE THE DISPARITY. I'M HAPPY TO SHARE THAT.

BY NOVEMBER, WE SAW AN INCREASE OF 44 AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS AND BY FEBRUARY, WE STILL YET SAW AN INCREASE OF 55 AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS AND THEREFORE, WE HAVE EXCEEDED THE GOAL BY TWENTY ONE AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS THROUGH PURPOSEFUL EFFORTS.

IN GOAL TWO, WE SAW AN INCREASE IN SIXTY FOUR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS AND GIFTED AND TALENTED AND ECHO THE SENTIMENT OF THE GOAL OF GOAL ONE AS BY NOVEMBER WE INCREASED BY 94 ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS AND ANOTHER INCREASE OF 25 ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS AND EXCEEDED THAT GOAL BY 55 STUDENTS, WE SURELY HAVE CELEBRATED THE GROWTH IN SUBPOPULATION GROUPS AS THIS IS THE FOUNDATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS IN THE AREA OF GIFTED AND TALENTED.

IT BEGINS AS EARLY AS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

AND BECAUSE THE WORK IS SO VERY IMPORTANT, I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE HOW OUR GOALS HAVE BEEN MET THROUGH COMMITTEE DISCUSSIONS AND ESTABLISHED WITH ACTIONABLE ITEMS THAT ARE ALIGNED TO THE GOALS.

SO AS AN EXAMPLE, AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THERE ARE TWO GOALS LISTED, THE SAME THAT YOU READ ON THE ON THE PREVIOUS SLIDE AND FIVE ACTIONABLE ITEMS THAT WERE LAUNCHED IN THE FIRST SIX WEEKS WITH A DRILLED IN FOCUS OF THE END IN MIND.

SO OUR FOCUS, OF COURSE, HAS BEEN TO BRIDGE THE DISPARITY, KNOWING THAT THESE FIVE STATEMENTS HERE WOULD HELP US TO BRIDGE THAT DISPARITY.

SO EACH ACTION ITEM HAS ITS RESPECTIVE END IN MIND WITH SIX WEEK INCREMENTAL ELEMENTS OF PROGRESSION TO PLAN TO ACHIEVE EQUITY IN OUR DISTRICT, IN THE AREA OF GIFTED AND

[01:05:01]

TALENTED. SO I SHARED BOTH OF THOSE TWO SLIDES IN DEPTH AND I WILL MOVE ON NOW TO ADVANCED ACADEMICS, MS. KUNSCHIK BEFORE WE GO INTO ADVANCED ACADEMICS, YOU KNOW, I JUST WANT TO SEE IF MR. GILLIES HAS ANYTHING HE WANTS TO SHARE, I KNOW GILLIES' LATEST WORK WITH GIFTED AND TALENTED. SO IF THERE'S ANYTHING, ANY ANYTHING YOU WANT TO HIGHLIGHT, GILLIES AS AN ACTION ITEM THAT YOU'VE TAKEN THAT WE CAN ATTRIBUTE THE RESULTS TO BE GOOD TO DO THAT.

YES. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

THIS WORK IS REALLY CRITICAL WORK IN IDENTIFYING OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE GIFTED AND TALENTED, REALLY IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL VERY EARLY ON, AS EARLY AS THE AGE OF FIVE WITH OUR STUDENTS IN CISD.

ONE OF THE MAJOR CHANGES WE MADE THIS YEAR AND FIRST OF ALL, TO THANK DR.

MCFARLAND FOR SUPPORTING THIS WORK AND ALWAYS GIVE ME THE GO AHEAD AND THE AFFIRMATION TO DO THIS IS I WOULD LIKE TO SAY CROWLEY ISD IS REALLY KIND OF ON THE FOREFRONT OF IMPLEMENTING CAMPUS NORMS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO SUBPOP.

SO THE FEDERAL LAW SAYS WE NEED TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS WHO ARE PERFORMING ABOVE THEIR AGE GROUP AS WELL AS THEIR ENVIRONMENT AND THEIR EXPERIENCES AND SO WE HAVE BEEN MEETING THIS WEEK WITH ALL THE GIFTED SPECIALISTS, WITH THE KINDERGARTEN TESTING WE'VE DONE AND MOST OF OUR SCHOOLS DUE TO OUR NEW CAMPUS INDIVIDUAL NORMS BY SUBPOP CAMPUSES, WE'RE IDENTIFYING BETWEEN 12 AND 13 PERCENT OF THEIR KINDERGARTEN POPULATIONS AS GIFTED AND TALENTED, WHERE IN THE PAST WE NEVER REALLY GOT PAST SEVEN OR EIGHT PERCENT.

SO WE ARE REALLY IDENTIFYING THE POTENTIAL IN OUR STUDENTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

MANY OF THE PRINCIPALS WHO SET THEIR EQUITY GOALS ARE ALREADY EXCEEDING THOSE EQUITY GOALS THAT THEY HAVE SET AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR BASED ON JUST OUR KINDERGARTEN TESTING AND WE STILL HAVE ALL OF SECOND GRADE TO SCREEN AND TEST AFTER SPRING BREAK.

SO VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THE WORK THAT THE GIFTED SPECIALISTS ARE DOING HAS JUST BEEN INCREDIBLE THIS YEAR.

THE SUPPORT THEY'RE LENDING THEIR CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND THEIR STAFFS THERE HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN REALLY MOVING THE NEEDLE WITH GETTING OUR GIFTED KIDS IDENTIFIED AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. SO I JUST APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT FROM THE LEADERS HERE AT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION IN ALLOWING THIS WORK TO TAKE PLACE.

AND SO, BOARD PRESIDENT, I THINK IF WE COULD STOP AND JUST SEE IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GIFTED MOVEMENT THAT WE'VE HAD AND WE WILL GO TO THE NEXT ONE.

SO WE'LL STOP AND SEE IF THERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THE ACTION ITEMS AND GOALS SURROUNDING OUR GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS AND PROGRAMMING? I HAVE A COMMENT.

TRUSTEE ROBINSON? I JUST WANT TO APPLAUD THE DISTRICT'S EFFORTS IN LOOKING AT VARIOUS STUDENTS AND MOVING BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL NORMS FOR IDENTIFYING GT STUDENTS.

SO I LOVE SEEING THOSE NUMBERS AND SEEING THE DIVERSITY INCREASE.

SO KUDOS TO CISD.

AND ONE THING, PRESIDENT HALL, I'D LIKE TO ADD IS WE HAVE A TALENT POOL AND CISD, THOSE ARE KIDS THAT DON'T MEET THE THRESHOLD OR THE MINIMUM NORM SCORE AND WE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, WE WENT BACK AND REEVALUATED THE LAST TWO YEARS STUDENTS IN THAT, THEIR SCORES FROM TWO YEARS PAST AND WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY MANY STUDENTS BASED ON OUR NEW NORMS FROM THE TALENT POOL.

MANY OF THOSE STUDENTS HAD MOVED ON TO MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SO WE DID THAT AS WELL.

WE IDENTIFIED THEM AS WELL.

SO WE HAD QUITE A FEW NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ONE NINTH GRADER THAT WAS ABLE TO QUALIFY.

WE ALSO TESTED IN JANUARY, WE TESTED SEVENTY FIVE SECONDARY STUDENTS.

THAT IS THE LARGEST NUMBER CISD HAS EVER HAD, TESTING SECONDARY STUDENTS AND OUT OF THAT, WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY NINE STUDENTS FOR GT SERVICES ALL THE WAY UP TO STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THEIR SENIOR YEAR.

SO THAT'S PRETTY EXCITING FOR THOSE STUDENTS AS WELL.

THANK YOU, MR. GILLIES, FOR SHARING THAT.

I THINK TRUSTEE BENTON PROBABLY KNOWS THE HISTORY A LITTLE BIT BETTER OR LONGER THAN I DO. BUT I DO KNOW THAT A LOT OF OUR ID HAD BEEN IN THE EARLIER GRADE LEVELS PREVIOUSLY.

SO I AM EXCITED TO HEAR, DELIGHTED TO HEAR THAT WE ARE NOW EXTENDING THAT INTO SECONDARY TO ALLOW STUDENTS WHO MAY HAVE EITHER NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED PREVIOUSLY TO ENTER INTO THE GT PROGRAMMING. SO KUDOS TO YOU FOR THAT AS WELL.

THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? WE'LL TURN IT BACK OVER TO YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. ALL RIGHT, MS. KUNSCHIK, IF YOU CAN TAKE US ON NOW THROUGH THE ADVANCED ACADEMICS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, SIR AND SO, YES, THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. I WAS SAVING AND THINKING QUESTIONS AT THE END, BUT ABSOLUTELY.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THEM THROUGHOUT THE PRESENTATION AND SO MR. GILLIES IS ON THE [INAUDIBLE] TEAM AND HE HAS HELPED US AS A DIRECTOR IN THIS AREA AND

[01:10:04]

NOW THAT I MOVE INTO ADVANCED ACADEMICS, I HAVE ALSO MS. ANNETTE DUVALL, WHO IS DIRECTOR OF PARDON ME, GILLIES IS RUNNING THIS INITIATIVE.

ALSO, I MEANT TO SAY WE HAVE DIRECTOR TRINA HARRIS IN COUNSELING THAT IS HELPING US IN THE TEAM PUSH THESE INITIATIVES THROUGH [INAUDIBLE].

SO SHE TOO IS HERE PRESENT FOR QUESTIONS.

SO IN THE AREA OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS, I'LL GIVE JUST A FEW SECONDS TO READ.

GO ONE AND GO TWO FOR YOURSELVES.

VERY GOOD. IN GOAL ONE, WE SOUGHT TO INCREASE BY ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN MALE STUDENTS TO BRIDGE THE DISPARITY IN PARTICIPATION AND PRE-ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES.

IN THE NOVEMBER UPDATE, I STATED WE INCREASED BY 182 STUDENTS.

IN THIS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY, THERE IS NO CHANGE.

HOWEVER, WE ARE VERY PLEASED TO STATE THAT WE HAVE EXCEEDED THE GOAL.

IT IS BY FIVE STUDENTS, BUT ONE STUDENT MATTERS AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THESE EFFORTS.

IN GOAL TWO, WE NOTED AN INCREASE NEEDED IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN AP COURSES TO BRIDGE THE DISPARITY.

WE WERE ABLE TO RECRUIT PARTICIPATION OF THIRTY ONE SUPER STELLAR SCHOLARS THROUGH EXTENSIVE CONVERSATION AND PARENT INVOLVEMENT.

AND I WANT TO SAY ALSO THAT FOR SOME OF THESE STUDENTS, IT WAS THEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE IN AN AP COURSE, AND I WISH WE COULD HEAR THEIR VOICES TODAY.

THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY THRILLED THAT WE RECRUITED THEM INTO THE PROGRAM.

WE DID FALL SHORT OF THE GOAL BY FORTY SEVEN STUDENTS AND THROUGH CONVERSATIONS, BRAVE CONVERSATIONS, WE HAD TO REALIZE THAT WE NEEDED TO CONVERT THIS GOAL INTO A TWO YEAR GOAL. SO WHEN WE LOOK AT THE ACTIONABLE ITEMS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE THEM BECAUSE SOME OF THESE ACTIONABLE ITEMS ARE SO THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE THIS GOAL IN A TWO YEAR PLAN.

SO, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS IT IN ADVANCED ACADEMICS THAT WE ARE DOING THIS ACADEMIC YEAR IN ORDER TO BRIDGE THE DISPARITY, ESPECIALLY IN THE AREA THAT WE'VE MOVED TO A TWO-YEAR GOAL.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT COUNSELING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MAPS, TESTING PRE-AP POTENTIAL, RECRUITMENT OF STUDENTS, ADVISEMENT OF STUDENTS AND STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS AND YOU'LL SEE THAT THE PROGRESSION PLAN FROM EVERY SIX WEEKS IS ABOUT PLANNING WITH PURPOSE TO MEET THE END IN MIND AND SO THIS IS THEREFORE HOW WE MOVE ABOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR AND MAKING SURE THAT WE BRIDGE THESE DISPARITIES.

SO ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME? ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE TRUSTEES? OK, WITH YOUR PERMISSION, PRESIDENT, I'LL CONTINUE.

OK, SO IN THE AREA OF, LET'S SAY WE'RE MOVING NOW TO DO A DUAL-CREDIT, WE SEE THAT WE HAVE LET'S SEE WHAT OK, WE SEE THAT WE HAVE AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND WE SOUGHT PARDON ME TO INCREASE AFRICAN-AMERICAN PARTICIPATION BY 30 STUDENTS IN THAT SPECIFICALLY OF ONRAMPS TO CREDIT. YOU'LL SEE THAT IN NOVEMBER, I PRESENTED TO THE BOARD THAT WE WERE ABLE TO RECRUIT 85 STUDENTS.

IN FEBRUARY, THERE IS NO CHANGE.

BUT ONCE AGAIN, PROUD AND LOUD DO WE SAY THAT WE EXCEEDED THE GOAL BY FIFTY FIVE AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS WITH A TOTAL OF EIGHTY FIVE AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS IN ONRAMPS AND SO MOVING TO GOAL TWO, YOU SEE THAT AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS IN THAT OF MALES, WE SAID, WOULD INCREASE BY 30 STUDENTS IN TCC DUAL-CREDIT ENROLLMENT AND WE WERE ABLE TO RECRUIT THREE STUDENTS.

THERE IS NO CHANGE.

AS YOU KNOW, WE CANNOT PLACE STUDENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR AND SO THE GOAL WAS NOT MET IN THIS TOO HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO A TWO YEAR GOAL.

I DID HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR AREA, IF YOU DON'T MIND ME ASKING.

VERY GOOD. I UNDERSTAND THE POINT THAT ONCE THAT STARTS BECAUSE THE COLLEGE COURSE, YOU CAN'T PLACE STUDENTS IN IT AFTER THE FACT.

BUT I GUESS MY I GUESS MY QUESTION IS KIND OF WITH THE ONRAMPS, LIKE WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THOSE STUDENTS MAY HAVE BEEN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES? I DON'T WANT TO GET IN THE WEEDS, BUT DO YOU UNDERSTAND, I'M ASKING [INAUDIBLE] IS THAT NUMBER, THAT INCREASE IN GOAL ONE, LIKE ARE THERE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES, I'M ASSUMING, IN THAT NUMBER, RIGHT? CORRECT. THEY'RE AFRICAN-AMERICAN ENROLLMENT.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT AFRICAN-AMERICAN, EITHER MALE OR FEMALE SPECIFIC IN GOAL ONE.

AND THEN IN GOAL TWO, WE'RE JUST LOOKING AT MALES? YES. THANK YOU FOR ASKING THAT QUESTION.

THAT IS CORRECT AND AS YOU RECALL, THE THREE YEAR TREND GAVE US SPECIFICALLY WHERE THE

[01:15:01]

DISPARITIES LIE.

SO WE WOULD SEE THAT AN ONRAMPS, AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS, WE SAW THE DISPARITY AND BUT IN TCC DUAL ENROLLMENT, WE SAW AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE DISPARITIES.

THANK YOU. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ACCOUNTS FOR ALL THE OTHER GOALS? IT SEEMS LIKE THE PROGRESS HAS BEEN PRETTY GOOD.

OBVIOUSLY, WE MET THE GOAL OR EXCEEDED.

THAT ONE STICKS OUT PRETTY, PRETTY SIGNIFICANTLY.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE FACTORS THERE? WE DELVED DEEPLY IN THIS UNDERSTANDING AND I WANT TO GO AHEAD AND LEAN INTO MR. GILLIES AND GIVE HIM THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE IT.

THERE WERE CERTAIN VARIABLES, SOME OF COVID IMPLICATIONS IN OTHER AREAS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT IN THE TEAM.

SO MR. GILLIES, DO YOU CARE TO STEP IN, PLEASE? NO, ABSOLUTELY. MR. RAY, I THINK THE ONE THING THAT WE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONRAMPS AND TCC IS ONRAMPS IS TAUGHT EXCLUSIVELY BY 60 PERSONNEL WHERE TCC DUAL-CREDIT IS STILL TAUGHT MAINLY BY ADJUNCT PROFESSORS AT TCC.

TCC DUAL-CREDIT THIS YEAR IS ALL ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING WHERE THE ONRAMPS IS BOTH IN-PERSON AND SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING THROUGH CISD.

SO MANY OF OUR STUDENTS OPTED TO TAKE THE ONRAMPS BECAUSE IT WAS MORE FAMILIAR TO THEM TO STILL BE ABLE TO HAVE FACE TO FACE WITH A TEACHER AND HAVE ACCESS TO A CISD TEACHER.

SO I THINK THE FEAR OF THE NEW PART OF DOING TCC DUAL-CREDIT WHEN IT WOULD BE COMPLETELY ALL ONLINE AND ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING HELPED MANY OF OUR KIDS CHOOSE TO DO ONRAMPS INSTEAD. ALSO ONRAMPS DOES NOT REQUIRE THE TSI TEST.

IF THE STUDENT COMPLETES THE ONRAMPS COURSE AND IS OFFERED CREDIT BY UT, THEY ARE NOW CONSIDERED TSI COMPLETE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, WHERE TCC STILL REQUIRED THE KIDS TO TAKE THE TSI TEST.

SO THERE'S SEVERAL FACTORS THAT FIGURED INTO KIDS CHOOSING ONRAMPS OVER TCC DUAL-CREDIT AND THOSE ARE REALLY THE MAIN REASONS FOR THAT AND HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH MANY PARENTS, THEY WERE VERY LEERY ABOUT HAVING THEIR KID'S FIRST COLLEGE EXPERIENCE BE IN AN ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

SO THEY THEMSELVES ALSO OPTED TO HAVE THEIR KIDS PUT IT ONRAMPS.

BOTH ARE COLLEGE CREDIT-BEARING COURSES.

IT'S JUST THE LAYOUT AND THE.

APPROACH IS DIFFERENT, AND OUR PARENTS JUST FELT MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE ONRAMPS PROGRAMING. ALSO, IN ADDITION, WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT IF STUDENTS HAVEN'T HAD PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH ADVANCED COURSES OR COLLEGE LEVEL COURSES, THEY'RE TO PUT THEM IN ONE OR TWO BY THEMSELVES CREATES KIND OF A SENSE OF ISOLATION.

SO I KNOW THE COUNSELORS HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THE PROGRAM AT THE NINTH GRADE THAT THEY'RE CALLING SOAR AND WHAT WE'RE ATTEMPTING TO DO IS TO GET COLLEAGUES OR GET COHORTS OF STUDENTS WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK TO TAKE THESE COLLEGE LEVEL COURSES AND AP COURSES AND MS. HARRIS MAY WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE SOAR PROGRAM.

I KNOW THEY'VE BEEN WORKING REALLY INTENTIONAL WITH THAT PROGRAM TO GET KIDS ON THIS ADVANCED TRACK AND SO THAT'S YOU KNOW, THAT'S ANOTHER THING THAT WE'LL BE DOING TO TRY TO MAKE SURE THAT PARTICULARLY THAT AFRICAN-AMERICAN GROUP WILL BE ABLE TO GET ENGAGED AND INVOLVED IN THIS COLLEGE LEVEL COLLEGE TRACK COURSEWORK.

I HAVE A QUESTION, TOO, I KNOW COMING FROM PRE-COVID GOING INTO THE NEXT YEAR, I BELIEVE THERE WAS A RESOURCE MENTION OR PROPOSAL FOR US TO HAVE ADDITIONAL STAFF TO SUPPORT THOSE STUDENTS.

I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS THROUGH TUTORING OR BUT IN ADDITION TO THE COUNSELORS THAT THEY ALREADY HAD, I THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS A PRESENTATION WHERE WE WOULD HAVE MORE SUPPORT FOR THOSE STUDENTS AS THEY GO THROUGH THAT PROGRAM AND SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT HAPPENED, BUT IF IT DID, IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE ARE SHARING WITH THE PARENTS TO EASE THEIR MINDS OR EVEN WITH THE STUDENTS TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY HAVE SOME GUIDED PEOPLE RESOURCES AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THEIR PROGRAM? SO, YEAH, WE DID TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT.

MS. HARRIS, WOULD YOU SHARE A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING AT THAT LEVEL? SURE, DR. MCFARLAND. GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

THE SOAR PROGRAM THAT DR.

MCFARLAND IS REFERRING TO IS SOAR STANDS FOR SCHOLARLY OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACHIEVEMENT AND WHAT WE DID WHEN DR.

MCFARLAND CHARGED US WITH LOOKING AT STUDENTS OF COLOR, PARTICULARLY MINORITY STUDENTS,

[01:20:06]

AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES, HISPANIC MALES, HISPANIC FEMALES OR AFRICAN-AMERICAN FEMALES, THIS PROGRAM BECAME INTENTIONAL FOR RECRUITMENT.

FOR ANY STUDENT WITH A 2.7 OR GREATER THAT HADN'T BEEN ON A TRAJECTORY OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS TO GET INTO THOSE CLASSES AND AT THAT TIME, WE HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM THAT WE SEND OUT REMIND 101S AS WELL AS WE'VE HIRED A TUTOR ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS AND SHE'S AN AVID SPECIALIST.

SHE'S ACTUALLY HAVE EXPERIENCE.

SHE HAS EXPERIENCE FROM TCU AND SHE WORKS WITH OUR STUDENTS IN THOSE AREAS THAT THEY'RE STRUGGLING. SO THOSE INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS, PARENTS, AS WELL AS THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES, GET REMINDERS OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES ON WEDNESDAYS.

THEY HAVE WITH THE WISDOM WEDNESDAYS WHERE WE HAVE SPEAKERS FROM THE COMMUNITY AND THEY ADDRESS THE STUDENTS AND GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND JUST THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.

SO WE'VE BEEN GIVING WRAPAROUND SERVICES FOR THOSE STUDENTS SINCE THE PROGRAM, WHICH BEGAN IN SEPTEMBER.

ONCE WE PUT THE KIDS IN THOSE CLASSES, WE MADE A BIG DEAL ABOUT THEM AND MANY OF THEM WERE JUST HONORED TO KNOW THAT THEY WERE THOUGHT OF TO BE IN A CLASS SUCH AS AN ADVANCED ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY.

SO FOR SOME, IT CHANGED THE LITERAL TRAJECTORY OF THE WAY THEY THOUGHT OF THEMSELVES AND SO WE'RE JUST EXCITED TO SHARE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES.

BUT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN INFORMATION AND MRS. P. WHICH IS THE COUNSELOR AT CLC, SHE IS THE LEAD COORDINATOR FOR THAT PROGRAM.

SO SHE DOES AN AWESOME JOB IN MAKING SURE THAT THE PROGRAM IS SERVING OUR STUDENTS AS BEST AS POSSIBLE AND WITH ANYTHING THAT THEY MAY NEED INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL DAY. THAT'S WHAT I REMEMBER, THE WRAPAROUND SERVICES, SO GLAD TO KNOW THAT'S HAPPENING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU'RE WELCOME.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, PRESIDENT HALL, SHALL WE CONTINUE? LET'S CONTINUE. ALL RIGHTY.

AND SO NOW WE'RE GOING TO MOVE, WELL, LET'S LOOK AT THIS QUICKLY AS WE TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT IT. HOWEVER, THERE ARE SEVEN ACTIONABLE ITEMS IN DUAL-ENROLLMENT PROGRESSION THAT WE'RE WORKING ON AND SO YOU CAN SKIM THROUGH THOSE AND SEE SOME AREAS.

I WILL SAY THAT DR.

MAYFIELD'S INTERJECTION MADE ME THINK WE NEED ANOTHER LINE ITEM THERE ABOUT IN ORDER FOR US TO KNOW THAT WE SURELY ARE SOMEHOW SUPPORTING THE STUDENTS THAT WE'RE PLACING IN THERE. SO WE'LL ADD THAT IN THERE.

I'M SURE IT'S IN THERE SOMEWHERE, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE CLEAR.

ALL RIGHT. SO WE'LL MOVE ON TO CAREER IN TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION.

SO IN GOAL ONE, WE SOUGHT TO INCREASE THE SUBPOPULATION OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS BY THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX STUDENTS, WE WERE ABLE TO BRIDGE THAT DISPARITY BY THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN STUDENTS, AND THEREFORE WE EXCEEDED OUR GOAL BY ONE STUDENT AND WE'RE PROUD OF THAT.

IN GOAL TWO, WE SOUGHT TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN COURSES BY ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY STUDENTS.

WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN RECRUITMENT OF 54 STUDENTS AND DID NOT MEET THAT GOAL, SHY OF ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN STUDENTS REREVIEWED THIS GOAL EARLY ON AND MADE THE DECISION THAT IT WOULD BE CONVERTED INTO A THREE YEAR GOAL.

WE'RE CURRENTLY IN EVALUATION OF SOME BARRIERS THAT ARE THERE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, AND WE'RE WORKING ON SYSTEMICALLY BREAKING DOWN THE BARRIERS SO THAT MORE STUDENTS ARE PARTICIPATING IN CTE COURSES AND SO WE'LL TRANSITION AND PLEASE KNOW THAT AS I TALK ABOUT THE ACTIONABLE ITEMS THAT WE ALSO HAVE MS. ANNETTE DUVALL WHO IS A DIRECTOR OF CTE AND CAN ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS IF NEEDED.

THESE ARE THE FIVE ACTIONABLE ITEMS THAT WE HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE AREA THAT WOULD HELP US TO BRIDGE OUR DISPARITIES WITHIN A THREE YEAR GOAL.

OK, IF THERE'RE--PARDON ME? I BELIEVE DR.

MAYFIELD, I BELIEVE THE QUESTION, I SAW HER COME [INAUDIBLE] OK, THANK YOU. WELL, I WAS JUST GOING TO KIND OF FOLLOW UP WITH WHAT MR. RAY ASKED EARLIER WITH THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT FOR AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS.

SO IF YOU'LL GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS SLIDE WITH THE CTE.

GO AHEAD. CAN YOU HEAR ME? YES, WELL, I'M LOOKING AT THE CTE AND I'M JUST WONDERING WHAT THE CHALLENGES MIGHT BE FOR THAT. I WOULD THINK THE CTE WOULD SHOW SOME GREATER NUMBERS OF INCREASES BECAUSE OF THE SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS, SO I'M WONDERING, ESPECIALLY WITH THE SURVEYS THAT WE ASKED THOSE STUDENTS, I KNOW THAT THERE WERE SURVEYS OF INTEREST THAT

[01:25:02]

WERE GIVEN. SO I'M CURIOUS TO UNDERSTAND THE FINDINGS FROM THOSE SURVEYS AND HOW THEY WERE TARGETED AND THE NUMBER OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THOSE SURVEYS TO UNDERSTAND ARE WE MISSING THE MARK ON SOME OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST.

SO THAT ONE WAS JUST LIKE MR. RAY SAID, FOR THE OTHER ONE, THIS ONE WAS KIND OF DISTURBING FOR ME, BUT GLAD THAT IT'S POINTED OUT, BUT TRYING TO DIG DEEPER TO UNDERSTAND WHY THAT IS.

OR IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS NOW, MAYBE MS. DUVALL, I'M NOT SURE.

I'VE GOT A QUESTION THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THAT, IS IT STILL THE CASE THAT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE VERY LIMITED IN THE NUMBER OF ELECTIVES THAT THEY HAVE ROOM FOR IN THEIR SCHEDULE? AND SO THESE CTE COURSES WOULD BE CONSIDERED ELECTIVES, CORRECT? SO A LOT OF TIMES A STUDENT MIGHT BE CHOOSING BETWEEN BAND ATHLETICS AND CTE AND THEY JUST DON'T HAVE AS MANY SLOTS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL AS THEY DO A HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

IS THAT THE CASE? THAT IS THE CASE.

WE ALSO WE DON'T HAVE THE ANSWERS YET, THE COMPLETE ANSWERS FOR WHY THERE IS A DISPARITY AT MIDDLE SCHOOL, BUT SOME THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING, WE'VE ADDED THAT SIXTH GRADE COURSE, WE'RE WORKING WITH THE COUNSELORS.

WE'RE ALSO WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH THE TEACHERS TO LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN THAT SIXTH GRADE COURSE AND SEVENTH GRADE AND EIGHTH GRADE AND THEN I THINK RELATED TO THIS, DR. MAYFIELD, ONE OF THE THINGS IS WHILE YOU'RE SEEING THIS, WE ALSO LOOK AT EQUITY IN EACH PROGRAM OF STUDY TO ENSURE THAT WE HAVE EQUITY IN EVERY PROGRAM OF STUDY.

YOU JUST DON'T SEE THIS.

SO WE DO DIG DEEPER AS WELL AS WHEN WE GET TO HIGH SCHOOL.

DO WE HAVE EQUITY IN EACH GPA QUARTILE? SO YOU'RE SEEING SURFACE THIS GOAL TWO, IS A CONCERNING GOAL TO US AND ONE THAT WE'RE DIGGING DEEP IN, BUT WE DON'T HAVE THE ANSWERS YET.

TO ADD TO THAT QUESTION AND I KNOW WE DON'T HAVE A TON OF MIDDLE SCHOOLS, BUT IS THE ENROLLMENT, I WOULD SAY PRETTY EVEN ACROSS THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, MEANING IS THERE MORE AFRICAN-AMERICAN PARTICIPATION IN SOME MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAN OTHERS? AND WHEN I SAY SOME, I KNOW WE DON'T HAVE LIKE 10, BUT ARE THE NUMBERS PRETTY EVEN ACROSS THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND AM I PUTTING YOU ON THE SPOT BY ASKING? I WAS JUST CURIOUS. AND I DON'T REMEMBER HONESTLY, BUT I KNOW THAT IT IS AN ISSUE DISTRICT WIDE BUT I DON'T REMEMBER BY MIDDLE SCHOOL, BUT I CAN GET THAT INFORMATION.

AND THESE ARE GREAT QUESTIONS AND WHAT WE WILL DO IT AT OUR NEXT QUARTERLY REVIEW, WE'LL DO AN ASSESSMENT OF KIND OF THE AREAS WHERE WE ARE HAVING SOME DIFFICULTY AND WE'LL DO AN ASSESSMENT OF THAT AND KIND OF GIVE YOU WHAT WE THINK OUR PLAN IS.

I CAN TELL YOU THE FIRST, WHEN I FIRST LOOKED AT IT, I'M LIKE, MAN.

BUT THEN I SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT? THE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS IS, IT SHOWS THAT WE WERE SETTING GOOD GOALS BECAUSE WE JUST PRESENTED ALL OF THESE GOALS THAT WERE, YOU KNOW, THE REALITY, IF IT WAS THIS EASY TO DO IT, WE COULD DO IT WITH THE WAVE OF A WAND, THEN WE DID SET OUR GOAL HIGH ENOUGH AND SO THE GOOD THING IS, I BELIEVE THAT WE DID A GOOD JOB OF SETTING THE GOAL.

NOW, THE QUESTION THAT YOU ALL ASK IS, WHY IS IT HAPPENING? THAT'S WHERE WE ARE AND I CAN TELL YOU, THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE CAN SIT HERE IN FEBRUARY AND TELL YOU WHERE OUR DISPARITIES ARE AND WHAT WE'RE DOING ABOUT IT IS BECAUSE AS AS A BOARD, YOU ALL MADE THAT A PRIORITY.

SO WE APPRECIATE THAT IT IS CLEAR ABOUT WHAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON.

SO, YEAH, I THINK IT SERVED ITS PURPOSE FOR SURE.

WELL, WE DEFINITELY APPRECIATE THE QUARTERLY UPDATES BECAUSE IT DOES SHOW INTENT AND THERE'S PLENTY TO CELEBRATE.

NOT TO PUT ANYONE ON THE SPOT.

WE'RE PROUD OF THE ACHIEVEMENT AS WELL AND JUST THE EFFORT.

MS. KUNSCHIK, BACK TO YOU.

THANK YOU AND SO WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE WHERE WE HAVE SOME GREAT THOUGHTS TO PONDER FROM THAT DISCUSSION ALSO AND SO YOU'LL SEE HERE, THERE'S FIVE ACTIONABLE ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN LISTED IN THE AREA OF CTE AND SO AS WE RECEIVE YOUR FEEDBACK, IT'S ABOUT GOING BACK AND TWEAKING AND LOOKING AT THESE GOALS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ANSWERING EVEN THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU'RE PRODDING US WITH IN THIS PRESENTATION AND WE WELCOME THAT, SO, WE'RE LOOKING ONCE AGAIN, YOU SAW SOME OF THIS ALSO THAT WAS ALREADY PRESENTED, FOR EXAMPLE, THE VIRTUAL TOURS AND WE TALKED ABOUT HOW ARE WE SPECIFICALLY ENSURING THAT WE'RE REACHING ECO AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS? ARE THERE PHONE CALLS BEING MADE? SO WE'RE PRESENTING SOME VERY TARGETED EFFORTS IN MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE REACHING THESE SUBPOPULATIONS AND SO WITH THAT, OUR ESTEEMED BOARD, THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION WITH

[01:30:02]

THE FEBRUARY EQUITY UPDATE, I THANK YOU KINDLY FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR GUIDANCE AND WE'LL TAKE ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE AT THIS TIME.

DO WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REMAINING FOR MS. KUNSCHIK OR DR. MCFARLAND? I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY AND ECHO, WHAT YOU SAID EARLIER ABOUT WE HAVE A LOT TO CELEBRATE BECAUSE WE DID SEE SOME NUMBERS THAT EXCEEDED GOALS.

SO THAT PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE.

SO I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND SO GLAD THAT THE WORK IS CONTINUING AND ON YOUR VERY FIRST SLIDE IN THE MIDDLE, IT SAID SENSE OF URGENCY, AND I JUST FEEL IT.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THIS ON AND DOING SUCH GREAT WORK WITH IT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? WELL, I THINK DR.

WOODSON-MAYFIELD CAPTURED IT, SO THAT'S THE NEXT STEP FOR ME.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE TONIGHT? MS. KUNSCHIK OR DR. MCFARLAND? NO, THANK YOU.

WELL, I THINK YOU'RE STILL UP.

SO THAT BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM SEVEN POINT FIVE PROGRAM EVALUATION PROCESS AND REPORTING TEMPLATE. DR.

MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, THIS ITEM IS ALSO ANOTHER ITEM.

WE'RE SHARING INFORMATION WITH YOU TO PREPARE OUR FUTURE REPORT FOR YOU AND SO THIS ITEM DEALING WITH PROGRAM EVALUATION WILL BE FOCUS ON THE PROCESS AND OUR REPORTING TEMPLATE.

WE'D LIKE YOU TO LISTEN TO THIS, SIMPLY LOOK AT THIS AND GIVE US INPUT EITHER TONIGHT OR IN THE FUTURE ABOUT WHAT INFORMATION YOU'D LIKE FOR US TO INCLUDE ON THIS PROGRAM.

EVALUATION PROCESS, PROGRAM EVALUATION TEMPLATE.

MS. KUNSCHIK IS PREPARED TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

MS. KUNSCHIK. THANK YOU AND SO, MADAM PRESIDENT HALL AND ONCE AGAIN, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT DR.

MCFARLAND HAS STATED, I WILL PRESENT TO YOU THIS EVENING A RECORD ITEM ON PROGRAM EVALUATION THAT IS ALIGNED TO GO ONE DRIVING STUDENT AND GOAL TO ENGAGE COMMUNITY AND GOAL THREE EMPOWERED STAFF.

IT IMPACTS ALL OF OUR GOALS.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PRESENTATION IS PARDON ME, THE FIRST SLIDE IS FOR US TO PAUSE TO UNDERSTAND THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PRESENTATION.

IT IS TO SEEK FEEDBACK AS DR.

MCFARLAND STATED FROM OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGARDING THE PROGRAM EVALUATION TEMPLATE, IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN THIS ANALYSIS REPORT THAT WILL BE PRESENTED TO YOU LATE MARCH AND OR EARLY APRIL.

WE ARE SEEKING YOUR FEEDBACK AND I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A BIRD'S EYE VIEW TODAY OF WHAT IS AN EXTENSIVE PROCESS THAT WE'VE GONE THROUGH AND THEN I STILL WANT TO BE ABLE TO PULL OUT SOME FEEDBACK, IF NOT TODAY, MAYBE AT A LATER DATE.

WE ARE CURRENTLY IN REVIEW.

JUST AS A REMINDER AS I KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, THIS BOARD OF TRUSTEES, CURRENT REVIEW OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS, BILINGUAL EDUCATION, CAREER TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION AND COUNSELING, THOSE ARE THE PROGRAMS THAT WE'RE EVALUATING THIS ACADEMIC YEAR.

SO BEFORE I SHARE THE TEMPLATE HEADERS, I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT I INVITED ALL OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS TO BE PRESENT TODAY SO THAT THEY COULD HEAR AND LISTEN AND I WANTED TO JUST REITERATE OR TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD THE AMOUNT OF TIME AND EFFORT THAT THESE COMMITTEE MEMBERS HAVE PUT TOGETHER IN THIS PROCESS.

SO YOU'LL SEE THESE DATES AND THESE TIMES.

BUT WHAT I WANT TO SAY TO YOU IS THESE DATES AND TIMES HAVE ALL OCCURRED AT THE END OF THE DAY AS THEIR TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS RUNNING BUILDINGS AND DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVES. AND SO WE COME TOGETHER AT THE END OF THE DAY AND WE SPEND A GOOD TWO HOURS EACH DAY IN EVALUATION, AS YOU SEE THERE.

SO WE'RE KNEE DEEP IN THIS PROCESS NOW AND IN THE NEXT SLIDE, I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THE NAMES, NOT THAT I CAN SPOUT OUT THE NAMES OF ALL OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, BUT I SURELY WANTED THEM TO KNOW THAT THE BOARD WAS GOING TO HAVE THE POWERPOINT THAT LISTED THE NAMES OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE PRESENT AND HELPING US.

YOU'LL SEE THERE'S TWENTY THREE ADVANCED ACADEMICS, COMMITTEE MEMBERS THAT ARE HELPING US AND OF COURSE, YOU SEE THE DIRECTOR, ROBERT GILLIES IS HELPING TO GUIDE THE PROCESS IN BILINGUAL EDUCATION.

WE HAVE 15 COMMITTEE MEMBERS WITH DIRECTOR MARIA ANGUIANO, WHO'S HELPING US AND IN THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU WILL SEE THAT COUNSELING PROGRAM.

WE HAVE 30 COMMITTEE MEMBERS THAT ARE PRESENT AND WORKING DILIGENTLY UNDER THE DIRECTION, ALSO WITH DIRECTOR TRINA HARRIS AND THEN IN ANNETTE DUVALL WITH 18 COMMITTEE MEMBERS IN CTE.

ALL OF THESE INDIVIDUALS TALLY UP, I BELIEVE, TO ABOUT EIGHTY NINE MEMBERS, EIGHTY SIX MEMBERS THAT ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO STRENGTHEN OUR PROGRAM.

SO WE'LL GO ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE AND THIS IS BASICALLY THAT BIRD'S EYE VIEW THAT I WANTED TO GIVE YOU. IF I WERE TO PRESENT TO YOU EVERY NUGGET OF WHAT WE'VE DONE IN ORDER TO GET WHERE WE ARE, IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR THIS PRESENTATION.

BUT IN ESSENCE, WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS BE ABLE TO PRESENT TO YOU THE CONTEXT OF THE PROGRAM

[01:35:02]

FIRST. SO WE'RE REALLY WORKING TO DIG DEEPLY ON THE PROFILE OF THE PROGRAM.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM LOOK LIKE RIGHT NOW? AND FROM THERE, ESTABLISH THE GOALS AND THE OBJECTIVES AND WHAT WE DO IS WE'RE LOOKING AT ALSO WHAT IS THE IDEAL, THE MOST GUARANTEED AND VIABLE PROGRAM THAT WE WOULD WANT TO MEASURE OURSELVES AGAINST AND FROM THERE, WE HAVE ESTABLISHED THESE ITEMS THAT WE BELIEVE THAT ARE OUR OVERARCHING OBJECTIVES AND GOALS AND SO WE LIST THOSE AND IN THE PRESENT ANALYSIS PROCESS, I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU WHAT INSTRUMENTS THE COMMITTEE USED ALSO IN ORDER TO COME UP WITH THEIR CONCLUSIONS.

WE ARE CURRENTLY SURVEYING COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, STUDENTS, AND WE'RE ALSO SURVEYING PARENTS IN EACH OF THE PROGRAMMATIC AREAS AND SO WE'RE GETTING INFORMATION IN ORDER TO DRAW CONCLUSIONS AND WHAT WE'LL DO IS TRIANGULATE THAT QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS TOGETHER TO DETERMINE WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BRIGHT SPOTS, CONCERNS AND NEEDS THAT WE WILL PRESENT TO YOU.

SO THAT IS, IN ESSENCE, THE END IN MIND FOR THE COMMITTEE.

BUT TRULY, IN THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU'LL SEE THAT EACH OF THE MEMBERS KNOW THAT OUR GOAL IS TO PRESENT TO THE BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS OF WHAT WE FOUND WOULD ADD VALUE TO OUR PROGRAMS SO THAT THE END IN MIND WOULD BE THAT OUR STUDENTS WOULD ACHIEVE GREATNESS IN ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS AND SO WITH THAT BOARD, ONCE AGAIN, THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION TO YOU AND I WILL TAKE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME IF YOU HAVE ANY.

ARE THERE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD AT THIS TIME? ALL RIGHT.

WELL, I GUESS I WANT TO THANK ALL OF THE TIME THAT HAS BEEN DONATED TO THIS PROCESS AND THAT IT'S GOING TO CONTINUE, BECAUSE I SEE THERE'S SOME FUTURE DATE.

I DON'T EVER WANT TO TAKE FOR GRANTED THE WORK THAT'S BEING PUT FORTH AND NEVER WANT TO DETRACT FROM, I GUESS, THE LOAD, RIGHT, WITH ALL OF THE VIRTUAL SPACE, WITH ALL THE CRISES THAT WE'VE BEEN THROUGH AND SO WHEN I THINK ABOUT JUST BEING AN EDUCATOR MYSELF, THE TIME THAT WE SPEND AND THEN THINKING ABOUT EVEN GREATER RESPONSIBILITIES AFTER HOURS SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION FOR THAT AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE OUTCOMES AND THE REPORTS AND YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

THAT CONCLUDES OUR REPORT ITEMS FOR THIS EVENING.

I DON'T BELIEVE WE HAVE ANYTHING ON EXECUTIVE SESSION.

DR. MCFARLAND, IS THERE ANY COMMENTS OR ANYTHING YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD.

WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION.

SO THE ONLY COMMENTS I WOULD HAVE WOULD BE, FIRST OF ALL, JUST TO THANK THE EQUITY TEAM FOR THE FOR THE GREAT WORK AND ALL THE PRESENTATIONS TONIGHT AND JUST TO REMIND EVERYONE ABOUT THE BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM TOMORROW; WE ARE DEFINITELY EXCITED ABOUT ABOUT THAT AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR KIDS TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT THEY'VE BEEN LEARNING IS GOING TO BE A GREAT TIME AND BE ABLE TO DO IT VIRTUALLY WILL BE GREAT.

SO HOPEFULLY YOU ALL CAN POP IN WHEN YOU CAN.

OTHER THAN THAT, WE JUST APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT BOARD AND YOUR GUIDANCE THROUGH THIS PROCESS. YOU GOT TO MCFARLAND.

ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD BEFORE WE DISMISS? WELL, I MISSED AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO A CELEBRATION AT THE BEGINNING, AND I THINK [INAUDIBLE] I'M ACCUSTOMED TO EXCELLENCE FROM EVERYONE.

I DIDN'T HAVE TO WONDER WHAT PLANS WERE FOR SCHOOL.

I DIDN'T HAVE TO WONDER WHAT WAS COMING UP NEXT LAST WEEK AND I THINK I'M SO COMFORTABLE KNOWING THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE SO PROACTIVE IN MAKING THE DECISION MAKING.

I DON'T EVEN EXPERIENCE ANXIETY IN THOSE AREAS AND SO THAT STILL SHOULD BE CELEBRATED.

SO I DON'T EVER WANT TO GET US JUST ACCUSTOMED TO EVERYTHING BEING PERFECT.

BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING SO PROACTIVE IN GETTING THE WORD OUT, NOT ONLY IN A CALLOUT, BUT IT'S LIKE NO SOONER THAN IT HIT MY FACEBOOK, THEN MY PHONE WAS RINGING AT THE SAME TIME AND I KNOW THAT WAS A COMFORT TO ALL OF THE PARENTS AND THE FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT. SO I WANTED TO THANK CISD TEAM FOR THAT AS WELL.

BUT IF THERE ARE NO OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS TONIGHT, THAT WILL BRING US TO A CONCLUSION. SO WITH NO FURTHER BUSINESS TO BRING BEFORE THE BOARD, WE ARE ADJOURNED AT 7:39 P.M..

THANK YOU. GOOD NIGHT, EVERYONE.
