THERE WAS ONE CELEBRATION, I FORGOT.
WE CANNOT BE REMISS IF WE DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT OUR SOFTBALL GIRLS ARE COMPETING RIGHT NOW DURING OUR MEETING FOR PLAYOFFS AND I THINK THE FIRST TIME IN QUITE SOME TIME.
SO SENDING THEM GOOD VIBES AND GOOD WISHES TO [INAUDIBLE] TO SEE THEM ADVANCE.
ALL RIGHT. SO MOVING TO AGENDA ITEM FOUR POINT TWO, COMMUNICATION AND MARKETING INTERN PROJECTS, MR. KIRCHNER.
YES, THANK YOU, PRESIDENT HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.
MCFARLAND, THIS NEXT RECOGNITION IS CLOSE TO HOME FOR OUR DEPARTMENT.
WE'RE EXCITED TO INTRODUCE TWO OF OUR STUDENT INTERNS AND SHOW OFF SOME OF THEIR WORK.
THIS RECOGNITION ALIGNS WITH GOAL ONE THRIVING STUDENTS.
SENIORS DANIEL PHILLIPS AND LYDIA [INAUDIBLE] WILL WRAP UP THEIR TWO YEAR DESIGN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM WITH US UPON THEIR GRADUATION IN JUNE.
DURING THE LAST TWO YEARS, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF CROWLEY ISD'S WEBMASTER AND DIGITAL CONTENT ADMINISTRATOR MR. MATT HOOVER, DANIEL AND LYDIA HAVE DESIGNED A VARIETY OF LOGOS AND GRAPHICS THAT YOU'VE ALL SEEN AROUND OUR DISTRICT.
WE ALSO TONIGHT WANT TO THANK THEIR GRAPHIC DESIGN TEACHER AT THE BRJTC CENTER, MS. MELISSA PORTER, FOR HELPING US IDENTIFY THESE TWO VERY TALENTED STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AND FOR TEACHING THEM AND ALL OF OUR STUDENTS SO VERY MUCH ABOUT GRAPHIC DESIGN. DANIEL AND LYDIA HAVE DESIGNED LOGOS FOR 2 CISD SCHOOLS WHILE ALSO DESIGNING THE CROWLEY ISD PTECH LOGO.
WE'RE GOING TO START WITH DANIEL PHILLIPS, WHO'S A SENIOR AT NORTH CROWLEY.
DANIEL DESIGNED THE LOGO FOR THE CROWLEY ACADEMY OF AVIATION, TRANSPORTATION AND LOGISTICS, WHICH IS OUR DISTRICT'S PTECH PROGRAM.
HE ALSO DESIGNED THE BRANDING AND MULTIPLE SOCIAL MEDIA DESIGNS FOR SEATTLE.
HIS LOGO HAS BEEN FEATURED ALREADY ON HATS, T-SHIRTS, TABLECLOTHS, BANNERS, NOTEPADS, NOTEBOOKS AND SO MUCH MORE.
AND DANIEL WANTS TO CONTINUE PURSUING GRAPHIC DESIGN.
HE'LL BE ATTENDING UTA TO STUDY GRAPHIC DESIGN THERE AFTER GRADUATION.
WE'LL HEAR FROM DANIEL IN A SECOND, BUT ALSO WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU TO MS. LYDIA [INAUDIBLE], WHO'S A SENIOR AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
LYDIA'S SCHOOL LOGO DESIGNS ARE SELECTED AS BOTH MEADOW CREEK ELEMENTARY AND SYCAMORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LOGOS OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS.
AND THIS IS REALLY SPECIAL FOR LYDIA BECAUSE SHE IS A PRODUCT OF SYCAMORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. AND SO HER JOURNEY HAS COME FULL CIRCLE.
SHE ALSO HAS A SEATTLE LOGO THAT'LL BE PART OF THE PTECH ACADEMY MOVING FORWARD AND THAT HAS BEEN FEATURED ON MASK, BOOKLETS, PULL UP BANNERS AND MUCH MORE.
AND LYDIA IS LOOKING AT ALSO MAJORING IN DESIGN AT THE CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF ARTS AFTER
[00:10:02]
SHE GRADUATED IN JUNE. SO LYDIA AND DANIEL HAVE DESIGNED ALSO SOME OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL BOARD PROJECTS FOR OUR DEPARTMENT THAT ARE SEEN ACROSS CROWLEY ISD AND ALSO THEIR WORK HAS BEEN FEATURED ON HOLIDAY GREETING CARDS.AND SO I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK LYDIA AND DANIEL FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND JUST GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT THEIR INTERNSHIP AND WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED AND WHAT THEIR FAVORITE PARTS BEEN.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START WITH THIS INTERNSHIP.
I'LL BE HONEST, WHEN I FIRST WENT INTO IT, I WASN'T EXPECTING ALL THESE BIG THINGS FOR SCHOOLS AND THE DISTRICT, THE MEADOW CREEK LOGO, THE VERY FIRST PROJECT WE WORKED, EXCUSE ME, WE WORKED ON.
AT FIRST I WAS NERVOUS BECAUSE IT'S OUR FIRST PROJECT.
IT'S FOR A SCHOOL AND ALSO THE FACT THAT WE ARE ALSO COMPETING AGAINST THREE OTHER INTERNS. SO IT WAS PRETTY HECTIC.
BUT I'M GLAD THAT MY LOGO WAS CHOSEN.
AND THROUGHOUT THE LIKE, AFTER THAT POINT, I KNEW, ALL RIGHT, I'M IN THIS INTERNSHIP SO I CAN SUCCEED, AND MATT HOOVER BROUGHT EVERY SINGLE PART OF THAT FOR BOTH ME AND DANIEL AND THE OTHER INTERNS. WELL, LYDIA YOU'VE DONE GREAT WORK, AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT HER INTERNSHIP WAS WHEN SHE GOT TO PRESENT HER WINNING LOGO TO SYCAMORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THOSE SYCAMORE SUPERSTARS WERE WATCHING HER.
ONE OF HER FORMER TEACHERS WAS THERE ON ZOOM CONGRATULATING HER.
SO THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN FOR US, LYDIA.
SO THANK YOU AND BEST OF LUCK AS YOU CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION IN GRAPHIC DESIGN.
ALL RIGHT. DANIEL PHILLIPS, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR INTERNSHIP? GETTING INTO GRAPHIC DESIGN, STARTING OFF, I REALLY WAS NOT EXPECTING TO DO ANYTHING BIG LIKE THIS AT ALL.
I WAS REALLY JUST TRYING TO GET IN TO SEE IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT I LIKE DOING IN THE FUTURE. AND THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE INTERNSHIP, I REALIZED THAT I DO BELONG HERE AND I LOVE WHAT I DO. THIS IS REALLY MAKES ME HAPPY, PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE EVERY TIME I GET TO SEE OTHER PEOPLE WITNESS MY WORK THAT I CREATED AND TOOK TIME TO THINK ABOUT, ESPECIALLY WITH THE PTECH LOGO, ONE THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE NATIONWIDE.
I JUST IT BLOWS MY MIND EVERY TIME I HEAR THEM SAY IT AND EVERY TIME I LOOK AT IT ON A SHIRT OR A HAT, I ALWAYS THINK, LIKE, MAN, I REALLY MADE THAT.
IT MAKES ME HAPPY. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE IT MAKES ME REFLECT ON WHAT I USED TO DO BACK THEN, LIKE IT WASN'T ON THIS LEVEL OF CREATIVITY.
AND I JUST ENJOYED EVERY PART OF THIS INTERNSHIP BECAUSE IT MADE ME MORE CREATIVE AS A PERSON. WELL, DANIEL AND LYDIA, WE CAN'T HELP BUT SMILE EITHER SEEING YOUR WORK AND SEEING YOUR PROGRESS, WE'RE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU.
WE'RE GOING TO BE ROOTING FOR YOU AS YOU CONTINUE STUDYING GRAPHIC DESIGN IN COLLEGE.
AND WE KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO BE VERY SUCCESSFUL AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A PLACE FOR YOU HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
THANK YOU BOTH FOR BEING HERE.
AND THANK YOU, MR. HOOVER, FOR TAKING THESE TWO STUDENTS INTO OUR PROGRAM AND JUST TEACHING THEM SO VERY MUCH.
ALL RIGHT, WELL, ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? THIS SEEMS LIKE A DR.
BENTON TOPIC NO? I PUT YOU ON THE SPOT. THAT'S FINE.
I'M GLAD YOU DID, I WISH WE WERE ABLE TO BE IN PERSON AND BE ABLE TO SHAKE YOUR HAND.
LYDIA AND DANIEL, I MEAN, THAT IS JUST SO IMPRESSIVE.
AND MR. HOOVER, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WORK WITH THESE TWO AND WITH OTHER STUDENTS.
BUT THIS IS JUST SO IMPRESSIVE.
I MEAN, THAT'S CREATING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING THAT'S GOING TO LAST BEYOND YOU, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? LIKE, THAT'S JUST THAT'S AMAZING.
I CONCUR, I THINK THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT'S ABOUT, RIGHT? OUR GOAL ONE, THRIVING STUDENTS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, JUST HAVING THE ADULT MENTOR OUR STUDENTS AND THEN HAVING THOSE REAL WORLD EXPERIENCES AND THAT INFORMING THE DECISION THAT THEY GO ON INTO THEIR FUTURE.
SO THIS IS LIKE FULL CIRCLE AND WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.
SO CONGRATULATIONS TO LYDIA AND DANIEL.
AND ALSO THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT.
IT'S AWESOME. ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS? I JUST I JUST DO HAVE ONE.
AGAIN, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.
I HAVE MY SEATTLE TABLET BOOKLET RIGHT HERE WITH ME.
AND I ALSO HAVE ONE FOR EACH ONE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS SO THAT WE CAN KNOW THAT THE WORK THAT WE DO IS DEFINITELY CRITICAL.
AND THANK YOU, DANIEL, FOR THE FOR YOUR WORK, MAN WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU.
NO DOUBT. WE WISH YOU WELL IN THE FUTURE.
WE'LL SEE YOU AT GRADUATION, THOUGH.
ALL RIGHT. THIS BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM FOUR POINT THREE.
MY FAVORITE HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD WINNER.
YES PRESIDENT HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
AND DR. MCFARLAND, OUR MONTHLY HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER, GOES TO ONE EMPLOYEE IN ALL OF CROWLEY ISD WHO GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND IS THE HEARTBEAT OF OUR DISTRICT.
AND THIS VIDEO YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE ALIGNS WITH GOAL THREE EMPOWERED STAFF.
[00:15:01]
WATCH THIS.I THINK. KIDS KNOW WHEN YOU REALLY CARE AND HE KNOWS THAT SHE LOVES HIM AND HE LOVES HER, TOO. GOOD MORNING.
WE ARE INTERRUPTING PE THIS MORNING BECAUSE WE HAVE A VERY SPECIAL AWARD FOR AN ADULT IN THIS ROOM WHO HAS WON THE CROWLEY ISD HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD.
WALK WITH ME THIS MONTH'S WINNER IS MS. MAHA KHAN. YOU ARE OUR HEARTBEAT WINNER.
[APPLAUSE] MS. KHAN HAS WON THE HEARTBEAT AWARD FOR ALL OF CROWLEY ISD THIS MONTH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR THE STUDENTS AND STAFF HERE AT MEADOW CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
YOU LOVE AND CARE FOR ALL OF THE STUDENTS, BUT ESPECIALLY THE STUDENTS HERE IN YOUR RISE CLASS. AND SO LET'S CLAP FOR MS. KHAN. [APPLAUSE] I CAN'T THINK OF A MORE DESERVING PERSON TO RECEIVE THIS AWARD BECAUSE TRULY HER HEART DOES BEAT FOR OUR KIDS.
I KNOW THAT SHE IS GOING TO LOVE HIM AND TAKE CARE OF HIM LIKE HE WAS HER OWN CHILD.
AND IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD AS A MOM WHEN I PICK HIM UP AND HE'S SMILING OR WHEN I DROP HIM OFF AND HE SEES HER AND HE STARTS TO SMILE.
AND THEN THE NIGHT BEFORE HE ALWAYS ASKS, SEE MS. KHAN? SO HE KNOWS WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN THE NEXT DAY.
HE WANTS TO MAKE SURE HE HAS A SCHEDULE STRAIGHT AND THAT HE'S GOING TO BE SEEING MS. KHAN. SO MS. KHAN WORKS WITH THE RISE PROGRAM AND THAT'S THE PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM THAT MAY BE MORE SEVERE.
AND SO THOSE KIDDOS MAY BE NON-VERBAL.
THEY MAY NEED HELP WITH [INAUDIBLE] TRAINING, WITH JUST BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE.
THOSE KIDS NEED A PERSON IN THAT POSITION WITH A BIG HEART AND A LOVE FOR HELPING PEOPLE.
IT'S INTERESTING REALLY, TO WORK WITH THEM.
AND IT'S JOY AND IT'S LOVE AND IT'S PATIENT.
AND IT'S BELIEF, YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE FAITH.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE FAITH FOR THOSE KIDS, THEY CAN'T DO IT.
PLEASE DON'T EVEN STEP IN THAT CLASS, BECAUSE THEN YOU NEED TO HAVE ALL THE TIME THAT POSITIVE, POSITIVE, YOU KNOW, IN YOUR MIND THAT THEY CAN DO IT.
[INAUDIBLE] FIX THIS ONE, HEY YOU CAN DO IT JJ, COME ON SHOW ME.
SHE JUST GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND TO JUST HELP THOSE KIDS REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.
AND SHE'S ONE THAT WILL JUST RESEARCH ON HER OWN, FIND WAYS TO HELP THEM.
IF IT'S NOT WORKING, SHE'LL COME BACK THE NEXT DAY AND SAY MS. [INAUDIBLE] I WATCHED THIS VIDEO AND I FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAYBE TEACH HIM THE SKILL OR HER THIS SKILL. MS. KHAN HAS REALLY MADE A BIG IMPACT WITH OUR FAMILY.
AND SO ONE OF OUR CHALLENGES THAT WE'VE HAD IS POTTY TRAINING.
SO POTTY TRAINING WITH CONSISTENCY.
AND SO I CAN NOW REPORT THAT LANDRY IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT FULLY POTTY TRAINED IN A LARGE PART OF THAT IS BECAUSE OF MS. KHAN. AND SO MS. KHAN WORKED REALLY HARD WITH HIM AND SHE WAS DETERMINED THAT HE WAS GOING TO DO THAT.
AND HE DID. THEY DESERVE THE BEST, LIKE AS A HUMAN BEING.
THEY'RE NOT DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHERS 100 PERCENT.
SO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT FOR, YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING.
SO I KEEP TELLING THOSE KIDS, GIVE ME MY LIFE BACK.
AND WITH THE WORK WITH THEM, I THINK THEY JUST LET ME FEEL I'M STILL ACTIVE.
I CAN GIVE MORE. SO THEY NEED ME.
I NEED THEM. I COME TO THAT POINT.
I WILL MISS THEM WHEN THEY'RE GOING THROUGH MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SO A LOT OF TIMES IN THE EVENINGS SHE GOES FOR A WALK AND SHE'LL WALK TO MEADOW CREEK AND CHECK ON IT, MAKE SURE EVERYTHING'S GOOD.
AND THAT'S WHEN SHE'LL DO HER GARDEN.
TAKES CARE OF IT EVEN OVER THE SUMMER, OVER CHRISTMAS BREAK IT DOESN'T MATTER.
SHE'S UP HERE MAKING SURE THE GARDEN LOOKS GOOD.
I BELIEVE, YOU KNOW, ELEMENTARY KIDS, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ESPECIALLY.
I FEEL THOSE KIDS JUST LIKE GARDEN.
WHERE DO YOU PUT THOSE LITTLE SEEDS AND YOU GIVE THEM THE RIGHT WATERING, THE RIGHT SUN? I LEARNED THAT SHE HAD PLANTED FLOWERS IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL FOR THE KIDS TO HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO LOOK AT WITH.
YOU KNOW THAT PEOPLE DON'T CARE LIKE THAT ANYMORE.
[00:20:03]
THEY JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO HER LIKE YOU THANK YOU FOR BEING HER AND LOVING ALL THESE KIDS, LOVING OUR LITTLE GIRL.NEXT YEAR IS GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT CLASS.
SO WE'LL BE MISSING HER. JUST THANK OF MS. KHAN FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE.
ALL RIGHT, OUR HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL IS HERE WITH US THIS EVENING. MS. KHAN, CONGRATULATIONS.
THANK YOU. [INAUDIBLE] WHAT IS IT LIKE HEARING FROM THOSE PARENTS AND YOUR COWORKERS, HEARING THE IMPACT YOU'RE MAKING THERE AT MEADOW CREEK? I WILL THANK EVERYONE TRULY FOR THE BEAUTIFUL AWARD THEY TOLD ME TODAY, THEY ACTUALLY GIVE ME LIKE THE [INAUDIBLE].
WHEN YOU HEAR PEOPLE, THEY JUST THANK YOU FOR THE THINGS YOU LOVE TO DO AND FOR PEOPLE TO SHARE WHAT YOU DO, EVEN IF YOU DON'T WAIT FOR THOSE WORDS BECAUSE YOU GO FOR THE WORK AND IT'S TRULY, I DON'T THINK IT'S JUST A JOB.
WHEN YOU GO SPECIALLY FOR SCHOOL JOB IN A SCHOOL, IT'S NOT ONLY A JOB, IT'S DIFFERENT.
WHEN YOU DEAL WITH THOSE KIDS, YOU DEAL WITH THEM JUST LIKE YOUR OWN CHILDREN.
AND I ALWAYS SAYS OUR CHILDREN, THEY ARE NOT DIFFERENT, THEY JUST HAVE A TRULY DIFFERENT WAY TO LEARN MAYBE, BUT WITH THE SLOW WAY WE GET OUR GOALS AND I WISH I HOPE EVERY PERSON KNOWS THOSE KIDS AND THEY WILL LOVE THEM.
I LOVE ALL PEOPLE I WORK WITH.
I KNOW THEY LOVE TO HEAR FROM US, ESPECIALLY THE PARENTS DOING ALL POSITIVE THINGS THAT WE LIKE TO HEAR. THAT'S GOOD [INAUDIBLE] TODAY.
SO WE TRY TO GIVE THEM GOOD HOPES ALWAYS BECAUSE THEY CAN DO EVERYTHING.
IT JUST SOMETIMES EVEN THEIR PARENTS GET TIRED WITH THEIR BEHAVIORS, BUT WE TRY TO GIVE THEM THE HOPES ALL THE TIME.
THAT'S THEY'RE GOING TO GET BETTER.
PARENTS SOMETIMES THEY THINK I'M CRAZY TRULY, BECAUSE I GO LIKE FROM DAY ONE.
I DO WANT A PULL UP. I DO WANT TO DIAPERS IN THIS ROOM.
MY MOP, I GET MY [INAUDIBLE] IN THE CLASS JUST TO CLEAN AFTER THEM.
THEY CAN EAT EVEN IF THEY START TO EAT WITH THEIR HANDS, LITTLE BY LITTLE, WE TEACH THEM HOW TO EAT WITH THE SPOON.
AND THAT'S MOM. SHE GIVE UP HER BABY.
THAT'S HE CANNOT USE THE BATHROOM IN NUMBER TWO.
THIS YEAR. WE DID THAT TOGETHER, HE END UP HE HAVE TO USE THE BATHROOM.
AND HE DID USE IT. [INAUDIBLE] I MEAN, IT WAS REALLY BEAUTIFUL TO SEE THE PARENTS FACE, THAT'S. WELL, MS. KHAN YOU'RE IMPACT IS BEING FELT NOT ONLY ACROSS CAMP THE CLASSROOM, BUT THE CAMPUS.
MS. KHAN IS ALSO THE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR FOR MEADOW CREEK ELEMENTARY.
AND SO WE'RE JUST WANTED TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE HER TO THE BOARD.
AND ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND ALL OF CROWLEY ISD, CONGRATULATIONS, MS. KHAN FOR BEING OUR HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER THIS MONTH.
YOU'RE ALWAYS ENCOURAGING ME, EVEN WITH MY ACCENT IN THE BEGINNING.
YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES PEOPLE GO LIKE WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOU.
I GO LIKE I'M STILL SPEAKING ENGLISH SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND ME IF MY KIDS UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SAYING. YOU ALL UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SAYING.
SO [INAUDIBLE] FOR MY TEACHER, I WORK WITH MS. DOUGLAS FOR EVERYONE TRULY FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PEOPLE, [INAUDIBLE] FOR EVERYONE, TRULY ALL OF YOU, EVEN IF I DON'T KNOW YOU IN PERSON IN PERSON.
BUT I KNOW YOU'RE ALWAYS HERE AND YOU'RE ALWAYS CALLING US THE HERO.
SO THANK YOU FROM MY HEART FOR ALL OF YOU FOR THE HARD WORK.
PRESIDENT HALL, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE OUR HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER THIS MONTH. CONGRATULATIONS, MS. KHAN. I WANT TO GIVE THE BOARD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SAY SOME REMARKS TO YOU AS WELL.
MY HEART IS SO FULL AND AS ALWAYS THE HEARTBEAT AWARD ALWAYS BRINGS ME TO TEARS.
BUT I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR AMAZING SERVICE AND YOUR DEDICATION.
AND YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY MAKING A VERY BIG IMPACT NOT ONLY ON OUR STUDENTS, BUT ON THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL. SO THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU.
ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? DR. MAYFIELD THERE YOU ARE. YES, I JUST I ECHO EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID.
THIS IS, YOU KNOW, WHAT I LOOK FORWARD TO AND HEARING THE STORIES.
AND SO, MS. KHAN I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.
THERE WERE SO MANY THINGS THAT WERE SAID BY THE PARENTS AND TEACHERS, BUT I THINK THE ULTIMATE JOY WAS SEEING HOW HAPPY THOSE KIDS WERE.
AND I THINK YOU JUST BRING SUCH DELIGHT TO THEM.
I THINK THE ANALOGY WITH THE GARDEN, I ALWAYS USE THAT WHEN I SPEAK AND THEN JUST TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE PLANTING THOSE SEEDS FOR THOSE STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE EMPOWERED TO DO BETTER AND THEY HAVE THAT CONFIDENCE THAT YOU'VE INSTILLED IN THEM.
AND SO I THINK THE COLLABORATION WITH THE PARENTS AND THE TEACHERS AND JUST YOUR GUIDANCE
[00:25:02]
IS JUST SO SPECIAL AND WHAT'S NEEDED.CONGRATULATIONS. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
ALL RIGHT, THIS MOVES US INTO OUR CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS, ARE THERE ANY ITEMS THAT THE
[6.0 Consent Agenda]
BOARD MIGHT HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT OR WOULD LIKE REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA? IF THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS OR ITEMS TO BE REMOVED OR ANY REQUESTS.IS THERE A MOTION? SORRY IF IT'S A LITTLE BACKGROUNDY, YOU BUT MS. [INAUDIBLE] I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM TRUSTEE RAY.
DO WE HAVE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND.
BENTON, MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE, MR. KIRCHNER. MS. ROBINSON. YES.
THIS MOVES US TO OUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS.
[7.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item (s)]
AGENDA ITEM SEVEN POINT ONE, ACCEPTANCE OF THE BLUE ZONES WELLNESS GRANT TO OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE MR. FISHER, WHO'S PREPARED TO REPORT ON THIS ITEM.
MCFARLAND. GOOD EVENING, MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD TONIGHT, WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT OAKMONT ELEMENTARY IS THE RECIPIENT OF A FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR BLUE ZONE WELLNESS INNOVATION GRANT AS SPONSORED BY TEXAS HEALTH AND THE R4 FOUNDATION.
NOW THIS GRANT IS REALLY AWARDED TO CAMPUSES WHERE STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPED.
YOU'LL SEE THE PICTURES THERE HAVE DEVELOPED INNOVATIVE IDEAS TO INCORPORATE WELLNESS BEST PRACTICES ON THEIR CAMPUSES.
PRINCIPAL GREEN AND COUNSELOR BRISTER HAVE ASSISTED THE STUDENTS OF OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN DEVELOPING THEIR STRESS RELIEVING SENSORY ROOM MODEL.
AND WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO TONIGHT IS SHARE A SNIPPET OF THE VIDEO THAT OUR STUDENTS CREATED FOR THIS EFFORT.
AND THEN HEAR A FEW WORDS FROM THE BLUE ZONE WELLNESS REPRESENTATIVE MS. STEPHANIE JACKSON ON THE ACTUAL PROCESS THAT OUR STUDENTS ENGAGED IN FOR BEING SELECTED FOR THIS AWARD. ANTHONY, IF YOU'LL SHARE THE VIDEO.
CROWLEY ISD, AND WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BLUE ZONE GRANT PROJECT AND OUR STUDENTS WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT HAVING A SENSORY ROOM AT OUR SCHOOL.
HI WE ARE OAKMONT ELEMENTARY AND WE ARE ASKING FOR A SENSORY ROOM.
IF WE WILL WIN, WITH THE MONEY.
WE WANT TO USE IT TO CREATE STATIONS AND EACH WITH ITS OWN SENSORY PURPOSE.
A SENSORY ROOM WILL BE A GREAT WAY TO SHRINK ANXIETIES DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIME.
STUDIES SHOW THAT GIVING US A CHANCE TO SELF REGULATE IN A SENSORY ROOM HELPS US TO MANAGE OUR OWN SELF CARE. MANY, MANY STUDENTS JUST NEED A PLACE TO COME [INAUDIBLE] SO THEY CAN FOCUS AND LEARN.
HI, I'M HEATHER BRISTER, THE COUNCIL.
MS. JACKSON ARE YOU THERE? YES, I'M HERE.
HOW ARE YOU? I'M WELL, THANK YOU.
MCFARLAND AND ESTEEMED BOARD TRUSTEES.
I'M STEPHANIE JACKSON, DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE TEXAS HEALTH BLUE ZONES PROJECT.
YOU KNOW, THIS GREAT VIDEO THAT WAS JUST A SNIPPET, BUT I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT THE STUDENT WELLNESS INNOVATION BRAND UNDERWRITTEN FOR US BY THE [INAUDIBLE] FOUNDATION, IT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO BE FULLY ENGAGED IN A GRANT PROCESS, AND YOU GUYS SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS.
STUDENT AMBASSADORS ACROSS THE COMMUNITY WROTE THESE PROPOSALS TARGETING WELLNESS AT THEIR CAMPUSES. OF COURSE GUIDED WITH FACULTY.
THIS CAME FROM THE STUDENTS' VOICE, AND THAT'S WHAT WE WANTED TO HEAR.
WE FORMED THE COMMITTEE OF COMMUNITY LEADERS WHO READ THE PROPOSALS AND SELECTED SCHOOLS
[00:30:03]
TO BECOME A FINALIST.AND OF COURSE, OAKMONT BECAME ONE OF THE FINALIST AND THOSE SCHOOLS HAD TO PRODUCE A VIDEO SHARING THEIR PITCH OR THEIR VISION ON WHY THEIR CAMPUS SHOULD BE SELECTED TO BE THE RECIPIENT OF THIS AWARD THIS YEAR.
WELL, OF COURSE, OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISPLAYED CONFIDENCE.
THEY WERE PASSIONATE, GREAT COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND CREATIVITY.
AND THE COMMITTEE WAS EXTREMELY IMPRESSED BY THEIR VISION AND THEIR UNIQUE PROJECT TO IMPLEMENT A SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL SPACE FOR THEIR PEERS IN SCHOOL.
NOT ONLY WERE OUR COMMITTEE IMPRESSED, BUT OUR BLUE ZONE'S NATIONAL TEAM READ ABOUT THEIR PROJECT. AND WE'LL BE FOLLOWING THEM NEXT YEAR TO SEE THEIR PROGRESS AND THEIR IMPLEMENTATION OF THEIR PROJECT.
SO KUDOS TO OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, TO THE STUDENTS AND OF CROWLEY ISD` AND THE FAMILIES FROM THAT CAMPUS.
THANK YOU, MS. JACKSON, AND THANK YOU TO THE R4 FOUNDATION AS WELL.
PRINCIPAL GREEN OR COUNSELOR BRISTER.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD ANYTHING? I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY I WE ARE SO WE FEEL LIKE WE ARE SO BLESSED, WE ARE SO EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO ADD THIS TO OUR CAMPUS AND I CAN'T WAIT TO IMPLEMENT IT NEXT YEAR.
AND WE'VE GOT LOTS OF GREAT IDEAS, SO I CAN'T WAIT FOR EVERYBODY TO SEE IT.
OUTSTANDING. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE STUDENTS AND STAFF OF OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
MR. KIRCHNER THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.
THANKS, MR. FISHER. PRESIDENT HALL, THIS IS A POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM FOR THE TRUSTEES TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO FORMALLY ACCEPT THE BLUE ZONES WELLNESS GRANT OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THIS EVENING. OK, THIS IS THE POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM, SO IS THERE A MOTION? I'M LOOKING FOR A MOTION. I WILL.
WOODSON-MAYFIELD. I MOVE THAT WE ACCEPT THE FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT FOR OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FROM THE BLUE ZONES.
WE HAVE A SECOND FOR TRUSTEE ROBINSON.
MOVE TO VOTE PLEASE. MS. ROBINSON. YES.
YES. THANK YOU, MR. GRASSIA. YES.
THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH MS. JACKSON FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT. AND THANK YOU FOR ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD TO THE BLUE ZONE SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS 5000 DOLLARS AND SEE THE AMAZING THINGS OUR OAKMONT STUDENTS AND FACULTY ARE GOING TO DO NEXT YEAR.
DR. HALL, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR MS. JACKSON BEFORE WE MOVE ON PLEASE.
MS. JACKSON IS THE AWARD ONLY FOR ONE CAMPUS IN THE DISTRICT, OR CAN THERE BE MULTIPLE CAMPUSES? YES, IT'S ONE AWARD.
SO FOUR SCHOOLS TOTAL RECEIVED THIS AWARD THIS YEAR AND WE HAD TWO SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED.
SO NEXT YEAR, OTHER SCHOOLS WILL BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE AND WRITE A PROPOSAL AS WELL.
SO FOR SURE, WE CAN EXTEND THAT HOPEFULLY TO CROWLEY ISD NEXT YEAR, OK, YOU READ MY MIND.
THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU, MS. JACKSON, LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN WITH ANOTHER AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT YEAR.
BYE BYE. ALL RIGHT. THIS BRINGS US NOW TO OUR REPORT ITEM AGENDA ITEM EIGHT POINT ONE,
[8.0 Report Item(s)]
SUMMER LEARNING PREVIEW.DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO REPORT ON THIS NEXT ITEM. AS WE KNOW, WE ARE DEFINITELY IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO RECOVER QUITE A BIT OF LEARNING THAT WAS LOST DURING THE DURING THE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.
AND WE START RECOVERING REALLY ALMOST IMMEDIATELY.
AND SO WE HAVE A SUMMER LEARNING PREVIEW.
WE WOULD LIKE TO JUST GIVE YOU AN OVERVIEW OF ALL THE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT WILL BE PROVIDED THIS SUMMER.
AND MR. NICHOLAS KEITH IS HERE PREPARED TO REPORT ON THIS ITEM.
MR. KEITH. ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU, DR.
MCFARLAND. GOOD EVENING. PRESIDENT HALL AND BOARD MEMBERS, SO WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO TONIGHT IS TAKE YOU THROUGH A VERY HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW OF WHAT OUR SUMMER LEARNING WILL LOOK LIKE IN CROWLEY DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE AND JULY THIS YEAR.
AND THIS ALIGNS WITH GOAL ONE, THRIVING STUDENTS.
[00:35:04]
SO AS WE WERE WORKING THROUGH OUR PLANS FOR SUMMER LEARNING, WHICH REALLY STARTS BACK IN JANUARY EVERY YEAR, WE HAD FOUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR US AS WE WENT TO PLAN OUR PROGRAMS. THE FIRST WAS WE WANTED TO CONNECT TO THE CAMPUS.WE BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS RESPOND BETTER TO SUMMER LEARNING WHEN IT'S IN CONNECTION WITH TEACHERS THEY ALREADY KNOW AND THE CAMPUS THAT THEY'VE BEEN ATTENDING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. SECONDLY, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE TARGET THE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN GREATEST NEED. SO MAKING SURE THAT WE IDENTIFY STUDENTS WHO NEED SUMMER LEARNING THE MOST AND ENSURING THAT WE TARGET THEM FOR OUR PROGRAMS. THIRD, WE WANTED TO PARTNER TO EXTEND OUR DAY.
A MAJORITY OF SUMMER PROGRAMS IN CROWLEY WILL BE HALF-DAY PROGRAMS, BUT WE ARE PARTNERING WITH DISTRICT PARTNERS TO EXTEND THAT LEARNING TIME WITH ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES.
AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE PROVIDE QUALITY PROGRAMING.
SO WHAT I'LL DO, LIKE I SAID, THERE'S A LOT GOING ON IN CROWLEY THIS SUMMER, SO I'LL JUST USE SOME SHAPES TO LAY OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING WHERE ACROSS OUR DIFFERENT CAMPUSES SO YOU CAN GET THE BIG PICTURE OF WHAT WE'RE PLANNING FOR THIS SUMMER.
SO ON YOUR SCREEN, YOU SEE 15 CIRCLES.
YOU CAN THINK OF THESE AS OUR 15 ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES.
AND I'M GOING TO START FILLING THESE IN SO A B WILL MEAN A VIRTUAL PROGRAM AND H WILL BE A HYBRID PROGRAM.
AND WITH A HYBRID PROGRAM, THAT MEANS THAT STUDENTS HAVE THE OPTION OF EITHER DOING ALL VIRTUAL OR COMING UP TO CAMPUS IN PERSON FOR SUMMER LEARNING.
AND THEN C IS A CENTRALIZED PROGRAM.
SO THAT'S WHERE WE BRING STUDENTS TOGETHER FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT TO ONE CENTRALIZED SITE. SO YOU CAN SEE AT THE VERY END OF THAT ROW, WE HAVE DAVID WALKER, THEY'LL BE PREPARING FOR THEIR ADDITIONAL DAY SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH BEGINS ON JULY 12TH.
SO THEY'RE OUR ONLY ELEMENTARY OR MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUS THAT WON'T BE OFFERING A SUMMER PROGRAM AS THEY PREPARE TO WELCOME STUDENTS BACK EARLY.
THEN WE HAVE FOUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES THAT ARE OFFERING ALL VIRTUAL PROGRAMS AND WE HAVE 10 CAMPUSES, 10 ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES OFFERING HYBRID PROGRAMS, AND SO THOSE ARE CAMPUSES, AGAIN, THAT OFFER BOTH VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON OPTIONS.
AND WE'LL BE PROVIDING BUS TRANSPORTATION TO EACH OF THESE SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.
SO THEN AT SOME OF OUR HYBRID CAMPUSES, WE'LL BE ALSO HOSTING CENTRALIZED PROGRAMS, THAT'S THAT GREEN CIRCLE WITH THE C.
SO WE HAVE SOME [INAUDIBLE] SUMMER INTENSIVE FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION, WHERE WE BRING IN STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND WE REALLY TARGET THEIR IEP GOALS AND NEEDS.
THAT'S WITH OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION AND SPECIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.
WE HAVE OUR CENTRALIZED BILINGUAL PROGRAM.
SO WE HAVE A REQUIREMENT FEDERALLY TO PROVIDE ONE HUNDRED TWENTY HOURS OF SUMMER PROGRAMING FOR BILINGUAL ESL STUDENTS IN PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN.
BUT THEN WE ALSO ADD ADDITIONAL SUMMER LEARNING FOR FIRST THROUGH FIFTH GRADE BILINGUAL ESL STUDENTS. THAT'S WITH MS. ANGUIANO AND HER LANGUAGE SUPPORT TEAM.
AND THEN, OF COURSE, WE HAVE OUR ANNUAL FINE ARTS CAMP THROUGH MR. SWAN AND HIS TEAM IN FINE ARTS AND STUDENT SERVICES.
AND ALL OF THESE WILL BE HAPPENING IN PARALLEL WITH SOME OF THOSE HYBRID PROGRAMS ON OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES.
SO THEN AS WE MOVE TO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES, YOU CAN SEE OUR FOUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS THERE, EACH ONE OF THOSE WILL BE OFFERING A HYBRID PROGRAM AS WELL.
SO STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME UP IN PERSON.
THAT'S OUR GOAL, IS TO GET AS MANY STUDENTS IN PERSON AS POSSIBLE FOR SUMMER LEARNING.
AND THEN WE'LL ADDITIONALLY BE HOSTING A MIDDLE SCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION INTENSIVE AT ONE OF THOSE CAMPUSES OFFERING A HYBRID PROGRAM.
SO I'LL PAUSE THERE FOR JUST A MOMENT BEFORE I SHIFT ON TO THE NEXT PART OF THE OVERVIEW, JUST TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR MR. KEITH? ROCK AND ROLLING.
SO CONTINUING ON INTO THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL SO YOU CAN SEE OUR FOUR HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES HERE, THE TWO NINES AND THE TWO 10TH THROUGH 12TH GRADES, WHAT WE DO EACH YEAR IS WE TAKE CREDIT RECOVERY AND WE CONSOLIDATE THAT AT ONE CAMPUS.
SO WE'LL BE HOSTING OUR CENTRALIZED CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAM AT CH 9 THIS YEAR.
AND STUDENTS WILL HAVE TEACHERS AVAILABLE FOR IN-PERSON SUPPORT, AS WELL AS ZOOM SUPPORT AS STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON THEIR CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAMS. AND THEN, OF COURSE, WE WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE BEAUTIFUL BILL R JOHNSON CTE CENTER, SO THEY GET TO HOST A POTPOURRI OF PROGRAMS TO GET AS MANY STUDENTS EXPOSED TO THAT BUILDING AS POSSIBLE.
TWO TO START WITH, WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT SETS OF CTE PROGRAMS PUT TOGETHER BY MS. DUVALL, DR.
OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS WORK TO BRING IN SIX THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AND GET THEM ENGAGED IN A PROGRAM OF STUDY.
SO THOSE ARE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS. AND THEN THE HIGH SCHOOL CTE PROGRAMS REALLY FOCUS ON HELPING STUDENTS WHO NEED ADDITIONAL HOURS IN THEIR PROGRAM OF STUDY, BUT MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THEM DUE TO COVID OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES EXTEND THEIR LEARNING INTO THE SUMMER.
THEN WE'LL HOST THREE OTHER PROGRAMS AT THE CTE CENTER, AND THESE ARE THE PURVIEW OF MR.
[00:40:01]
GILLIES AND HIS TEAM.SO FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE TRYING TO PASS TSI IN ORDER TO ENROLL IN DUAL CREDIT IN THE FALL, WE HAVE AN INTENSIVE PERSONALIZED PREP PROGRAM AND THEN WE OFFER THE TSI TEST FOR FREE ON SATURDAY. WE ALSO PROVIDE BUS TRANSPORTATION SO STUDENTS CAN COME UP AND TEST ON THAT DAY. WE HAVE OUR WEEK LONG, GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM, SO THAT WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT THE CTE CENTER. AND WE ALSO HAVE AN ALGEBRA READINESS PROGRAM.
SO THIS FOCUSES ON A TARGETED GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO WILL BE EIGHTH GRADERS NEXT YEAR TAKING ALGEBRA ONE.
AND THIS IS A BRIDGE PROGRAM TO HELP MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL WHEN THEY TAKE ALGEBRA IN EIGHTH GRADE.
AND SO IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH, THEN WE'LL ALSO BE TAKING OUT OUR STEM MOBILE DESIGN LAB AND OUR LITERACY BUS.
THIS IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MS. POKE, MS. [INAUDIBLE] AND HER TEAM.
THEY'LL BE OFFERING THIS AS ENRICHMENT, TAKING IT TO OUR APARTMENT COMPLEXES IN OUR DISTRICT. AND THEY'LL ALSO BE VISITING OUR HYBRID ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SITE.
SO STUDENTS WILL HAVE EXPERIENCES THERE.
AND MS. POKE, MS. [INAUDIBLE] AND THEIR TEAM ARE ALSO OFFERING VIRTUAL LAB ENRICHMENTS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER WHERE STUDENTS CAN COME UP, DO A ONE TIME PICK UP OF MATERIALS AND THEN JOIN VIRTUAL ZOOM SESSIONS THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF JUNE AND EARLY JULY.
AND SO ONE THING TO NOTE HERE IS THAT ALL OF THE COVID PROTOCOLS THAT WERE IN PLACE FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR WILL REMAIN IN PLACE FOR OUR SUMMER PROGRAMS. AND SO THAT'S AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT WE'RE OFFERING AND HOW WE'VE TRIED TO CONNECT TO THE CAMPUS AND SOME OF THE ENRICHMENT THAT WE'RE OFFERING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
AND SO AS WE DO THAT, ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THAT OUR SUMMER LEARNING IS BOTH OPEN AND IT'S FOCUSED. SO OUR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS.
CREDIT RECOVERY IS OPEN TO ANY STUDENT WHO NEEDS IT, AND WE ARE ALSO TARGETING STUDENTS IN THE HIGHEST NEED. SO I'D JUST LIKE TO SHOW YOU AN EXAMPLE OF THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE WITH THAT. SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IN THIS ENTIRE SPREADSHEET, BUT THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF ONE GRADE LEVEL AT ONE ELEMENTARY CAMPUS.
AND DR. EDMONDSON, OUR DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY, HAS PRODUCED THESE FOR EVERY ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HELP IDENTIFY WHO THEIR HIGHEST NEEDS STUDENTS ARE AND WHO THEY SHOULD BE TARGETING TO BE IN SUMMER PROGRAMS. SO LET ME JUST ZOOM IN ON THE TOP ROW HERE.
AND AGAIN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IT ALL IN.
BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS, IF YOU LOOK AT THE PURPLE SECTION, WE'VE TAKEN THIS STUDENT, THIS IS A THIRD GRADER. WE'VE TAKEN THEIR MATH DATA, WHICH INCLUDES THEIR MAP SCORE, THEIR WINTER BENCHMARK SCORE, AND ALSO THEIR GRADE FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER.
WE'VE TAKEN THEIR READING DATA, WHICH SHOWS WHETHER OR NOT THEY'RE READING ON AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL, THEIR SCREENER SCORE, THEIR WINTER BENCHMARK SCORE AND THOSE GRADES.
AND THEN WE'VE ALSO TAKEN THEIR ABSENCES AND WE'VE GIVEN EACH OF THOSE A WEIGHT.
AND SO STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE HIGHEST NEED YOU CAN SEE OVER HERE AT THE VERY END WILL HAVE THE HIGHEST WEIGHT.
SO, FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE STUDENT ISN'T PROJECTED TO MEET A GRADE LEVEL STANDARD ON STAAR, THEY GET A CERTAIN NUMBER OF POINTS.
IF THEY'RE NOT READING ON LEVEL, THEY GET A CERTAIN NUMBER OF POINTS.
IF THEY HAVE A CERTAIN NUMBER OF ABSENCES, THEY GET A CERTAIN NUMBER OF POINTS.
SO THE HIGHER THE WEIGHT, THE MORE WE NEED TO TARGET THAT STUDENT FOR SUMMER PROGRAMS. SO WHEN YOU JUMP BACK TO THIS LIST I SHOWED YOU BEFORE THEN, YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE COLUMN DOWN THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF STUDENTS LISTED FROM GREATEST NEED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO LEAST NEED. AND SO AS WE WORK WITH OUR CAMPUS LEADS ON THESE PROGRAMS, WE'RE WORKING WITH THEM TO START AT THE TOP AND FILL SEATS WITH STUDENTS WHO HAVE THE GREATEST NEED.
BUT OF COURSE, THESE ARE OPEN TO ANY CROWLEY STUDENT TO BE ABLE TO REGISTER FOR THESE PROGRAMS. AND THEN IN ADDITION TO THAT, THERE ARE A FEW OTHER WAYS THAT WE'VE REALLY MADE SURE TO TARGET OUR HIGHEST NEEDS STUDENTS FOR SUMMER LEARNING.
ONE THING WE'VE DONE, WE'VE REDUCED OUR CREDIT RECOVERY COSTS BY SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT.
SO THIS PREVIOUSLY WAS ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY DOLLARS PER CREDIT HOUR.
WE'VE REDUCED THAT TO 40 FOR A FULL CREDIT COURSE AND 20 FOR A HALF CREDIT COURSE.
WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE AS MANY STUDENTS TO BE A PART OF THIS PROGRAM AS POSSIBLE.
WE'RE PROVIDING FREE BUS TRANSPORTATION TO ALL OF OUR HYBRID AND C AND PROGRAMS AT THE CTE CENTER. WE'RE PARTNERING WITH AIRMARK TO PROVIDE FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AT ALL OUR HYBRID PROGRAM SITES, AND THESE SITES WILL ALSO BE OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY FOR LUNCH.
SO ANYONE IN THE COMMUNITY IS ABLE TO COME UP AND GET A MEAL THERE.
AND THEN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR SPECIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT, WE'RE OFFERING FOCUSED INTENSIVES FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. SO YOU SAW OUR HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER WORKS IN ONE OF OUR RISE PROGRAMS, WE'LL OFFER SUMMER INTENSIVE FOR LIFE SKILLS, RISE, FUNCTIONAL ACADEMICS WE'LL OFFER A DEAF LITERACY CAMP AT DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY AND OF COURSE, THE EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR FOR STUDENTS IN THE HIGHEST NEEDS. AND THEN FINALLY, JUST TO WRAP UP OUR THIRD PRINCIPLE WAS TO PARTNER TO EXTEND THE DAY. SO I MENTIONED AT THE BEGINNING THAT MOST OF OUR PROGRAMS ARE HALF-DAY PROGRAMS, BUT AT SEVERAL OF OUR SITES, WE'RE PARTNERING WITH OUR TWENTY FIRST CENTURY PROGRAM AND THEY'LL BE PROVIDING EXTENDED ENRICHMENT THAT LASTS THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
[00:45:05]
SO AT THESE SITES, A PARENT COULD DROP THEIR STUDENT OFF IN THE MORNING.THEY WOULD RECEIVE SUMMER VIRTUAL I'M SORRY, THEY WOULD RECEIVE IN-PERSON LEARNING IN THE MORNING AND THEN THEY WOULD EXTEND INTO THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY PROGRAM IN THE AFTERNOON. AND THEN WE'RE ALSO PARTNERING WE HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH CCPD THROUGH THE CITY OF FORT WORTH TO BRING IN SOME OUTSIDE VENDORS FOR ADDITIONAL CAMPUSES TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL ENRICHMENT TO EXTEND THE SCHOOL DAY.
SO, AGAIN, JUST GOING BACK TO THOSE FOUR PRINCIPLES, WE WANTED TO CONNECT TO THE CAMPUS BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS RESPOND BEST TO AN INVITATION FROM THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE SERVED THEM THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WANT TO TARGET OUR STUDENTS IN GREATEST NEED. SO WE LOOKED AT HOW WE ARE WEIGHTING STUDENTS AND THEN ALSO HOW WE'RE TRYING TO REMOVE AS MANY OBSTACLES AS POSSIBLE, LOOKED AT OUR PARTNERSHIPS TO EXTEND THE DAY. AND THEN, OF COURSE, THROUGHOUT ALL OF THIS, WE'RE PROVIDING QUALITY PROGRAMING, BOTH ENRICHMENT AND IN THE CORE CURRICULUM, TO MAKE EVERY TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERY STUDENT HAS EXACTLY WHAT THEY NEED.
AND SO THAT'S AN OVERVIEW OF SUMMER LEARNING IN CROWLEY FOR THIS COMING SUMMER, AND I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.
THANK YOU, MR. KEITH, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? I HAD ONE QUESTION, AND IT WAS JUST ABOUT THE DATE.
DID YOU SHARE WITH US WHAT THE DATES ARE? AND IF YOU DID, I APOLOGIZE IF I MISSED THAT PART.
SO MOST OF THE PROGRAMS RUN FROM JUNE 16TH TO JULY 2ND.
WE HAVE A FEW CTE PROGRAMS THAT WILL EXTEND INTO JULY.
WE JUST HAVE SOME STUDENTS WE'RE TRYING TO GET ADDITIONAL HOURS FOR.
THANK YOU. AND I SAW THE [INAUDIBLE], ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I JUST WANT TO SAY THIS LOOKS AMAZING, AND I THINK THAT Y'ALL HAVE DONE A FANTASTIC JOB ON TRYING TO GET THE STUDENTS, ALL STUDENTS EITHER BEHIND OR JUST WANTING TO LEARN MORE, AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO JUST THAT.
EVERYONE I MEAN, Y'ALL DID A GREAT JOB.
THANK YOU AND TO YOUR POINT, MR. GRASSIA, IT IS EVERYONE I HOPE YOU HEARD HOW MANY NAMES I LISTED IN THE COURSE OF THIS PRESENTATION. THIS IS DEFINITELY ALL HANDS ON DECK FOR SUMMER IN CROWLEY.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTION? OR COMMENT. WELL, I ECHO MR. GRASSIA'S SENTIMENTS.
I'M EXCITED THAT WE'VE GOT IT ALL LINED OUT AND IT LOOKS LIKE A REALLY GOOD PLAN, SO I KNOW OUR STUDENTS WILL BENEFIT.
I'M EXCITED. THANK YOU, MR. KEITH.
I APPRECIATE IT. DR. MCFARLAND. DID YOU HAVE SOME COMMENT? YEAH, JUST JUST THANKS FOR THE WORK, I MEAN, THERE'S DEFINITELY A GREAT TEAM.
THANK YOU, MR. KEITH, FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP IN PULLING THINGS TOGETHER.
AND, YOU KNOW, THE TEAMS WORKING WELL LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SUMMER.
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. KEITH. ALL RIGHT, THIS BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM EIGHT POINT TWO TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT APPLICATION UPDATE, DR.
MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS WE'RE DEFINITELY BRING THIS NEXT ITEM UP AS AN UPDATE. WE HAVE TALKED TO YOU JUST BRIEFLY, I BELIEVE IN BOARD COMMUNICATION ABOUT THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT.
WE DID SUBMIT THE APPLICATION AND MISS EXCUSE ME, DR.
KOHLER IS HERE TO REALLY ADDRESS AT A HIGH LEVEL THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT, OUR APPLICATION, WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR US NOW AND IN THE FUTURE.
THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND, PRESIDENT HALL AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
IT IS EXCITING TONIGHT TO BRING YOU AN UPDATE ON THE DESIGN OF THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT FOR OUR DISTRICT.
AND THIS ITEM ALIGNS WITH GOAL THREE EMPOWERED STAFF.
AND AS DR. MCFARLAND SAID, THE INFORMATION I'M SHARING WITH YOU TONIGHT WAS PART OF THE APPLICATION THAT WE SUBMITTED TO TEA AND WE SUBMITTED THAT ON APRIL THE 9TH.
JUST AS A QUICK REMINDER, THE PRIMARY GOALS OF THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT ARE TO RECRUIT HIGH PERFORMING TEACHERS, RETAIN THEM IN THE CLASSROOM AND REWARD THEM FOR THEIR POSITIVE GAINS IN STUDENT PERFORMANCE.
AND AS THE SYSTEM IS LAID OUT SO THAT TEACHERS CAN EARN DISTINCTIONS EITHER RECOGNIZED, EXEMPLARY OR MASTER, THEY EARN THESE DISTINCTIONS BASED ON THEIR T TEST PERFORMANCE, WHICH IS THEIR TEACHER OBSERVATION AND STUDENT GROWTH PERFORMANCE.
AND EACH ONE OF THOSE DISTINCTIONS COMES WITH ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION IN THE RANGES THAT YOU CAN SEE THERE LISTED ON THIS SLIDE.
SO THE DESIGN TEAM WAS REALLY A HUGE A HUGE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO WORKED ON THIS.
WE STARTED WITH AN INITIAL STEERING COMMITTEE THAT HAD ABOUT THIRTY FIVE MEMBERS ON IT.
AND REALLY, THEY'RE THE PRODUCT THAT CAME OUT OF THAT WAS YES.
[00:50:05]
WE DO WANT TO PURSUE THIS IN CROWLEY ISD, YES.SO FROM THAT, WE HAD CENTRAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATORS WHO SERVED AS DESIGN TEAM LEADS AND EACH ONE OF THOSE LEADS HAD A SUBCOMMITTEE AND WE HAD OVER ABOUT SEVENTY FIVE MEMBERS ON THOSE SUBCOMMITTEES.
THOSE WERE TEACHERS, OTHER CAMPUS STAFF, CAMPUS AND DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS.
SO WELL OVER ONE HUNDRED STAFF MEMBERS WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED AND MADE SOME OF THE DECISIONS, THE CRITICAL DECISIONS ABOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TIA IN OUR DISTRICT.
THE AS I MENTIONED, THE SUBCOMMITTEES, WE HAD SIX OF THEM AND THEY WERE DIVIDED INTO THESE GROUPS AND EACH ONE WAS REALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HELPING CRAFT ONE PART OF THAT APPLICATION. SO THE INFORMATION WOULD GO OUT TO THE SUBCOMMITTEES, THEY WOULD WORK, THEY WOULD ANALYZE, THEY WOULD RESEARCH, THEY WOULD COME BACK AND BRING THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS BACK. AND THEN ALL OF THAT WAS COMPILED INTO THE APPLICATION THAT WAS SUBMITTED.
JUST AGAIN, AS A REMINDER, THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT HAS BY STATUTE TWO REQUIRED COMPONENTS. ONE IS THE TEACHER OBSERVATION.
THERE HAS TO BE SOME MECHANISM IN THE SYSTEM, IN OUR DESIGN SYSTEM TO EVALUATE TEACHER PERFORMANCE. WE USE T TESTS AND THAT IS A STATE APPROVED MEASURE FOR THAT.
SO THAT WAS THAT'S WHAT WE'LL BE USING FOR TEACHER OBSERVATION.
BY STATUTE. WE ALSO MUST HAVE A COMPONENT FOR STUDENT PERFORMANCE.
AND SO THOSE TWO THINGS WERE REQUIRED BY THE STATE.
AND THEN WE HAD A LOT OF FLEXIBILITY ABOUT SOME OTHER THINGS WE MIGHT WANT TO ADD AS ADDITIONAL FACTORS.
AND AS THE COMMITTEES WORKED AND MET, THE DECISION WAS MADE TO ADD A COMPONENT OPTIONALLY FOR CAMPUS STUDENT GROWTH, AND THE PRIMARY REASON THAT WE CHOSE TO ADD THAT HAD TO DO REALLY WITH THE DISTRICT'S NORTH STAR GOAL.
OUR GOAL, AS YOU ALL KNOW, AND AS DR.
MCFARLAND SHARED IN HIS BLUEPRINT PRESENTATION A FEW WEEKS AGO, TO HAVE 100 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS ATTENDING AN A OR B CAMPUS BY 2025.
SO REALLY, IN ORDER TO DO THAT, NOT JUST HAVING HIGH PERFORMING TEACHERS, BUT WE REALLY NEED HIGH PERFORMING CAMPUSES TO MEET THAT GOAL.
AS THE COMMITTEES WERE MEETING AND WORKING, WE HAD SOME REAL JUST SORT OF GUIDING DECISION DRIVERS, AS I MENTIONED, THE NORTH STAR GOAL AND THAT QUALITY SEAT ANALYSIS, THE QUALITY SEAT ANALYSIS KIND OF GAVE US A PICTURE OF WHERE WE ARE CURRENTLY, OUR CURRENT PROJECTED SCHOOL RATINGS AND HOW THE STUDENTS THAT ARE ATTENDING THOSE CAMPUSES.
WE ALSO LOOKED AT CAMPUSES THAT ALREADY HAD SOME SORT OF INNOVATIVE PROGRAMING OR DESIGN IN PLACE, THINGS LIKE ACE OR[INAUDIBLE].
WE'VE GOT SOME MONTESSORI PROGRAM.
WE JUST TRIED TO LOOK REALLY COMPREHENSIVELY AT ALL OF THAT.
AND THEN WE REALLY TRIED TO BE VERY STRATEGIC ABOUT A REASONABLE NUMBER OF CAMPUSES WE COULD COMMIT TO IN PHASE ONE, WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO ROLL IT OUT.
WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO FINE TUNE IT AS WE GO ALONG BEFORE WE EXPAND THAT OUT ACROSS THE DISTRICT. AND THEN LAST WE HAD A SURVEY THAT WENT OUT TO OUR STAFF MEMBERS AND WE TOOK SOME OF THAT. WE TOOK THE FEEDBACK FROM THAT SURVEY AND THAT THE SURVEY ASKED THINGS ABOUT HOW THEY WOULD LIKE THINGS WEIGHTED.
AND SO A LOT OF THAT FEEDBACK IS REFLECTED IN THE DECISIONS THAT WE MADE AND PUT IN OUR APPLICATION. SO I MENTIONED THE TWO REQUIRED COMPONENTS AND THEN THE OPTIONAL COMPONENT THAT WE CHOSE TO ADD TO OUR APPLICATION AND THE WEIGHTS, AGAIN, THE WEIGHTING OF THESE COMPONENTS REALLY CAME FROM THE SURVEY DATA THAT WE RECEIVED AFTER WE SENT THAT OUT TO STAFF.
THE TEACHER OBSERVATION COMPONENT WILL WEIGH 40 PERCENT OF THE OVERALL SCORE.
THE TEACHER STUDENT GROWTH WILL WEIGH 50 PERCENT AND THE CAMPUS STUDENT GROWTH WILL WEIGH 10 PERCENT. SO FOR THE FOR A TOTAL OF ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, AND THAT'S HOW THAT IS BREAKING OUT ACROSS THOSE EACH OF THOSE MEASURES.
[00:55:01]
AND THEN THE CAMPUSES THAT, AGAIN, USING ALL THOSE DECISION DRIVERS THAT I MENTIONED, THE DECISION FOR THE FIRST PHASE ONE CAMPUSES IS REFLECTED HERE.THOSE CAMPUS CAMPUSES WILL INCLUDE DAVID WALKER, JAY HARGRAVE, MARY HARRIS, MEADOW CREEK, POYNTER, S.H.
AND THOSE ARE ALL ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES.
AND AS YOU REMEMBER FROM OUR PRESENTATION, THAT IS WHERE OUR CAMPUS, WHERE WE HAVE THE GREATEST NEED IN TERMS OF MOVING CAMPUSES TO THAT A OR B LEVEL.
SO VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT WHY THOSE WERE SELECTED.
IN TERMS OF WHO ON THE CAMPUS IS ELIGIBLE.
WE REALLY WERE TRYING TO START WITH THINGS WE ALREADY HAVE IN PLACE THAT CAN MEASURE THOSE THINGS EASILY. WE DIDN'T WANT TO ASK OUR TEACHERS TO HAVE TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT OR CREATE SOMETHING NEW TO BE ABLE TO ROLL THIS OUT QUICKLY.
SO THE ELIGIBLE TEACHERS AT THOSE CAMPUSES WILL BE ALL PRE-K THROUGH FIFTH GRADE TEACHERS WHO TEACH EITHER READING OR MATH, AS WELL AS ANY 5TH GRADE TEACHERS WHO TEACH SCIENCE.
SOME OF OUR FIFTH GRADE WERE SOMEWHAT DEPARTMENTALIZED AT SOME CAMPUSES.
SO WE CERTAINLY THAT IS A IS ALSO A STAAR TESTED SUBJECT.
SO WE DEFINITELY WANTED TO BE SURE TO INCLUDE THEM IN THE GROUP.
AND THEN ALREADY STARTING TO PLAN FOR PHASES TWO AND THREE AND BRINGING ON OTHER CAMPUSES AND OTHER TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS, THINGS THAT ELECTIVES NON CORE TEACHERS, BECAUSE THE WORK REALLY THERE IS THE STUDENT GROWTH COMPONENT.
HOW DO YOU WHAT WHAT MEASURES DO WE HAVE OR HOW CAN WE EFFECTIVELY MEASURE GROWTH OF A BAND STUDENT, A CHIOR STUDENT, A CTE STUDENT? SO THAT REALLY IS GOING TO BE THE BIG WORK MOVING FORWARD WITH THE DESIGN TEAM FOR THIS COMING YEAR SO THAT WE CAN ADD THEM ON IN PHASES TWO AND THREE.
SO I'M GOING TO PAUSE THERE FOR JUST A MINUTE BEFORE WE KIND OF DIVE INTO THE PERFORMANCE STANDARD PIECES AND HOW WE FIGURE THIS OUT AND SEE IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE TRUSTEES AT THIS POINT OR COMMENTS.
KOHLER. PHASE ONE, TWO AND THREE.
WHAT COHORTS ARE THOSE? WHAT COHORT APPLICATIONS? SO PHASE ONE IS COHORT D.
AND SO THE WAY THAT WORKS IS IF WE ADD CAMPUSES THAT ARE THE SAME OR USING THE SAME MEASURE. SO IF WE ADDED MORE ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES AND WE WERE USING THESE SAME TEACHERS, THAT WOULD JUST BE AN AMENDMENT TO OUR CURRENT APPLICATION.
IF WE ADD OTHER LIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR NON CORE TEACHERS, THAT WILL BECOME PART OF A NEW APPLICATION. SO THAT WOULD BE COHORT E FOR A NEW APPLICATION AND PHASE THREE WOULD BE COHORT F. OK, THANK YOU.
REGARDING TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS WITH TEACHERS WHO ARE INCLUSION TEACHERS.
OUR DYSLEXIA TEACHERS BE INCLUDED IN PHASE TWO OR THREE ALSO SINCE THEY DO SERVE STUDENTS ? OUR GOAL IS BY THE TIME WE HAVE THIS ROLLED OUT THROUGH ALL OF THESE PHASES, IS TO HAVE SYSTEMS IN PLACE FOR EVERY TEACHER TO PARTICIPATE.
WE UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF SPECIAL NONTRADITIONAL CORE ELECTIVES, CTE.
IT'S JUST MAKING SURE WE HAVE MECHANISMS THAT WILL BE APPROVED BY THE STATE THAT MEET THAT ARE THEY VALID AND RELIABLE MEASURES.
AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO DO SOME WORK IN THAT AREA TO MEET THAT THRESHOLD.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS BEFORE WE KIND OF NOW KIND OF DIVE A LITTLE DEEPER INTO THE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS? ALL RIGHT. SO FOR THE PERFORMANCE STANDARD PIECE OF IT, FOR THE TWO REQUIRED COMPONENTS, TEA HAS ESTABLISHED PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
AND SO THEY REALLY DID AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENT DATA AND TEACHER PERFORMANCE DATA ACROSS THE STATE AND SET THOSE STANDARDS SO THAT WAS A PRETTY EASY THING FOR US TO DO.
WE HAVE ADOPTED THOSE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS, BUT FOR ANY OF THE OPTIONAL COMPONENTS, THE DISTRICT WAS REQUIRED TO DETERMINE THE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR THE OPTIONAL COMPONENTS.
SO WE'LL KIND OF TAKE THESE ONE AT A TIME AND TALK ABOUT EACH OF THOSE AND YOU CAN SEE HOW THESE WILL COME TOGETHER.
SO FOR THE TEACHER STUDENT GROWTH PERFORMANCE, THE QUESTION WE'RE TRYING TO ANSWER IS
[01:00:02]
WHAT PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN THE CLASS, IN THE TEACHER'S CLASSROOM MET OR EXCEEDED THE PERFORMANCE GROWTH GOAL? AND AGAIN, THESE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS WERE SET BY THE STATE.SO A TEACHER WHO HAD FIFTY FIVE PERCENT OR MORE OF HER STUDENTS MEETING THE PERFORMANCE GROWTH GOAL COULD EARN A RECOGNIZED DISTINCTION FOR THAT COMPONENT.
AND YOU CAN SEE AT 60 PERCENT FOR EXEMPLARY AND HIGHER THAN 70 PERCENT FOR MASTER.
WHEN WE TALK ABOUT HOW ARE WE GOING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT ASSESSMENT AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING, HOW ARE WE GOING TO MEASURE THAT TO SEE WHAT THAT PERFORMANCE GROWTH GOAL IS.
THE COMMITTEE THAT MR. KEITH LED REALLY SPENT A LOT OF TIME LOOKING AT ALL OF THE ASSESSMENTS WE CURRENTLY USE IN THE DISTRICT, THE ASSESSMENTS WE ALREADY GIVE AT EACH OF THE LEVELS, AND HAS COME BACK WITH THIS RECOMMENDATION.
SO IN PRE-K, THEY WOULD FOR BOTH READING AND MATH, THEY WILL USE THE CIRCLE ASSESSMENT.
THEY ALREADY ARE GIVING THAT ASSESSMENT AS PART OF THEIR ROUTINE PRACTICE IN KINDER THROUGH SECOND GRADE READING.
WE'RE GOING TO USE THE NWEA: MAP TEST AND THE SAME THING WITH THIRD THROUGH FIFTH GRADE READING AND MATH. AND THEN FOR FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE, WE'RE GOING TO USE STAAR.
SO WHAT WE WILL BE DOING IS LOOKING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STUDENT PERFORMANCE, COMPARING IT TO THE END OF THE YEAR, STUDENT PERFORMANCE ON THOSE ASSESSMENTS, AND THEN LOOKING TO SEE HOW MANY OF THE STUDENTS MET THEIR GROWTH GOAL.
AND THEN GOING BACK TO THE CHART JUST A SECOND AGO BASED ON THOSE PERCENTAGES FOR EACH OF THOSE DISTINCTION LEVELS.
YES, MA'AM, FOR FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE, ARE YOU GOING TO USE THE FALL BENCHMARK AND THEN STAAR AT THE END? HOW WOULD THAT WORK? SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE BECAUSE STAAR IS ONLY GIVEN AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND IT'S NOT GIVEN IN FOURTH GRADE.
IT'S THE FIRST TIME IT'S GIVEN IS FIFTH GRADE.
SO FOR THE FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE, WE WILL HAVE TO GIVE AN ASSESSMENT A BENCHMARK SAMPLE RELEASE TEST IN THE FALL.
AND THEN WHEN WE GET THE STAAR RESULTS BACK FROM THE END OF THE YEAR, WE'LL BE ABLE TO COMPARE THOSE FOR GROWTH.
IT'S A GREAT QUESTION. THANK YOU.
RIGHT. SO WE'LL GO ON NEXT SLIDE.
SO FOR THE CAMPUS STUDENT GROWTH, THAT'S THE MEASURE THAT'S GOING TO BE WEIGHTED AT 10 PERCENT. THE QUESTION WE'RE TRYING TO ANSWER IS WHAT PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ON THE CAMPUS MET OR EXCEEDED THE PERFORMANCE GROWTH GOAL? SO, AGAIN, THAT REALLY THAT MEETING WE NEED THE CAMPUS TO MOVE TO GET A OR B [INAUDIBLE] BY 2025.
WE'RE ALSO WORKING AND LOOKING AT WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE CAMPUS, THE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR THAT. WE ADOPTED THE SAME PERFORMANCE STANDARDS THAT WE'RE USING FOR THE CLASSROOM TEACHER, SAME EXACT THE 55, 60 AND 70 BECAUSE AGAIN THERE'S CONSISTENCY IN THE WEIGHTING OF THOSE, THERE'S CONSISTENCY IN HOW THOSE ARE MEASURED AND HOW THEY'RE WEIGHTED, HOW A TEACHER EARNS THAT BASED ON A PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS.
AND WE FELT THAT WAS THE MOST TRANSPARENT AND SIMPLE WAY TO PUT THAT IN PLACE.
WE HAD TO SET THAT PERFORMANCE STANDARD BECAUSE IT'S AN OPTIONAL COMPONENT, BUT WE ADOPTED THE STATE'S PERFORMANCE STANDARD FOR THAT MEASURE.
AND THEN THE REQUIRED COMPONENT ON TEACHER OBSERVATION, THIS IS THEIR T-TESS EVALUATION, AND WHEN A TEACHER IS RATED ON T-TESS, THEY ARE GIVEN A RATING OF EITHER IN A PARTICULAR DIMENSION, DISTINGUISHED, ACCOMPLISHED, PROFICIENT DEVELOPING OR NEEDS IMPROVEMENT.
THAT'S HOW THEY'RE SCORED ON THE T-TESS.
SO THE STATE HAS SET PERFORMANCE STANDARDS IN A NUMERIC FORM AND YOU CAN SEE THOSE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
WHAT MUST A TEACHER HAVE ON THEIR T-TESS TO BE RECOGNIZED HIGHER THAN A THREE POINT SEVEN, HIGHER THAN A THREE POINT NINE TO BE EXEMPLARY AND FOUR POINT FIVE TO BE MASTER? SO THE WAY WE WILL CONVERT THAT TO A NUMERIC SCORES, WE WILL ADD A POINT VALUE FOR EACH OF THOSE COMPONENTS AND THEN WE'LL AVERAGE THAT ACROSS THOSE DOMAINS, TWO AND THREE ON THEIR T-TESS. AND JUST KIND OF A REMINDER FOR YOU GUYS ABOUT THE TIMELINE THAT WE'RE
[01:05:09]
ON, WE ARE ALMOST AT THE END OF YEAR ONE WHERE WE WERE REALLY WORKING TO DEVELOP THE SYSTEM, GETTING ALL OF THIS FEEDBACK AND ACTUALLY MAKING OUR APPLICATION TO THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT NEXT YEAR IS OUR DATA CAPTURE YEAR.SO WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR, WE WILL HAVE TO SUBMIT TEACHER OBSERVATION DATA AND STUDENT PERFORMANCE DATA TO BE EVALUATED TO SEE IF IT'S CORRELATED.
AND ONCE WE GET THAT PIECE BACK FROM THEM, HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE APPROVED.
THAT'S THE SECOND PIECE OF THE APPROVAL WILL ALSO, AS PART OF THAT DATA, TELL THEM WHO WE BELIEVE NOW IS DESIGNATE EARNS A DESIGNATION BASED ON THE DATA AND BASED ON OUR WEIGHTS.
AND WHEN ALL OF THAT IS APPROVED, THEN WE WILL BE ABLE TO DESIGNATE AND COMPENSATE OUR TEACHERS THE NEXT YEAR.
AND AS MS. BENTON ASKED ABOUT, YOU KNOW, THE KIND OF THAT CYCLE WHERE WE'LL ADD NEW DESIGNATIONS EVERY YEAR TO THE TEACHERS WE'LL EITHER BE AMENDING OUR CURRENT SYSTEM OR CREATING A NEW APPLICATION SO THAT WE CAN EXPAND THIS DISTRICT WIDE OVER THE COURSE OF PHASES ONE, TWO AND THREE.
SO OUR NEXT BIG STEPS, WE CURRENTLY ARE PARTICIPATING IN TEXAS TECH SURVEY.
TEXAS TECH IS THE PARTNER FOR THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT ON THE DATA SIDE OF THIS.
AND THEY SENT A SURVEY TO EVERY TEACHER IN OUR DISTRICT TO GET THEIR FEEDBACK ABOUT THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT.
AND I BELIEVE THAT SURVEYS OPEN FOR TILL, I BELIEVE, END OF NEXT WEEK.
THE OTHER THING THAT WE'RE WORKING ON IS TAKING ALL OF OUR CURRENT TEACHER OBSERVATION DATA. AND AFTER WE FINISHED THIS SCHOOL YEAR AND HAVE OUR END OF YEAR TEST DATA ON THOSE TESTS THAT I MENTIONED, WE'RE GOING TO START MODELING BASED ON THIS YEAR'S DATA JUST TO SEE HOW MANY DESIGNATIONS WE HAVE.
AND IT WILL ALSO GIVE US AN OPPORTUNITY IF WE'RE FINDING THINGS THAT WE NEED TO FINE TUNE, LIKE TRAINING ON CALIBRATION FOR APPRAISER'S, OR IF WE FIND OUT FROM THE SURVEY THAT OUR TEACHERS NEED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE T-TESS OBSERVATION PROTOCOL, THAT WE CAN PROVIDE THOSE THINGS OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
AND THEN WE'RE DEVELOPING A FIELD GUIDE OR A HANDBOOK FOR THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT SO THAT WE CAN PUT ALL OF THIS IN ONE DOCUMENT, COMPILE IT IN AN EASY TO READ FORMAT, AND IT WILL BE SOMETHING THAT TEACHERS CAN ACCESS AND WE CAN USE IT AS PART OF OUR TRAINING MATERIALS. SO AT THIS TIME, THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION AND I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE AT THIS TIME.
THANK YOU, DR. KOHLER, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD FOR DR.
KOHLER? ALL RIGHT, I THINK YOU ANSWERED ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS ALONG THE WAY.
DR. MCFARLAND DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING? JUST THAT I JUST LIKE TO JUST COMMEND THE TEACHERS IN THE GROUPS THAT HAVE WORKED TO PUT THIS TOGETHER.
IT'S BEEN I KNOW, OVER 70 OR 80 PEOPLE WERE WORKING TO PUT THIS TOGETHER AND JUST A LOT OF HARD WORK. AND THANK YOU, DR.
KOHLER, FOR LEADING THAT. MY PLEASURE.
THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND THANK YOU DR. KOHLER.
THIS NOW MOVES US TO AGENDA ITEM EIGHT POINT THREE, PROGRAM EVALUATION, COUNSELING AND CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION, DR.
MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE MS. KUNSCHIK PREPARED TO REPORT ON THIS PROGRAM EVALUATION ITEM.
WE DEFINITELY THANK YOU A BOARD FOR INSISTING THAT WE EVALUATE THESE PROGRAMS. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS EVALUATION WILL HELP US TO GET TO BE WHERE WE NEED TO BE MS. KUNSCHIK.
GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, DR.
HALL, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT DR.
MCFARLAND. THIS EVENING, I WILL SHARE A REPORT ITEM ON THE 2020-21 PROGRAM REVIEW INITIATIVE IN THE AREA OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND IN THE PROGRAM OF SCHOOL COUNSELING. THIS PRESENTATION ALIGNS TO GOAL ONE DRIVING STUDENTS GOAL TWO ENGAGED COMMUNITY AND GOAL THREE EMPOWERED STAFF.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PRESENTATION IS TO REPORT TO YOU THE FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATION IN THE RESPECTIVE PROGRAMS THAT WERE EVALUATED THIS ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2020-21 AND THROUGH THE
[01:10:01]
LENS OF A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN MODEL.I WILL SHARE THE OVERARCHING FOCUS AREAS THAT RESULTED FROM THE EVALUATION AND OUR COMMITTEE DIRECTORS MS. ANNETTE DUVALL, DIRECTOR OF CTE AND MS. TRINA HARRIS, DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING AND THEIR TALENTED COMMITTEE MEMBERS WILL IMPLEMENT THE PLAN WITH PRESCRIBED FIRST YEAR, SECOND YEAR AND THIRD YEAR ACTION ITEMS AND MEASURABLE GOALS. WE WILL BEGIN BY REVIEWING FOUR OVERARCHING FOCUS AREAS IN CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, FIRSTLY IN THE AREA OF WORK BASED LEARNING, THE EMPHASIS IS IN DELIVERY OF A CONTINUUM OF WORK BASED OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS TOURS, JOB SHADOWING AND INTERNSHIPS. THE FINDINGS DETERMINE THE NEED TO INCREASE IN THESE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS. SO THEREFORE THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO DELIVER A CONTINUUM FRAMEWORK CONTINUUM, MEANING A BUILD UPON FROM EXPOSURE EXPERIENCE SUCH AS FIELD TRIPS AND GUEST SPEAKERS, AND CULMINATING WITH JOB SHADOWING AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.
SECONDLY, A NEED TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE OF CTSOS WAS EVIDENT CTSOS ARE ORGANIZATIONS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CTE PROGRAMS. THERE ARE 12 DIFFERENT CTSO ORGANIZATIONS THAT OFFER LEADERSHIP EVENTS AND COMPETITIONS FOR STUDENTS, AND WE HAVE SHARED A FEW OF THEM AS AN EXAMPLE IN THE FINDINGS. FOR EXAMPLE, IN SKILLS, USA, THAT'S YOUR AUTO TECH, COSMETOLOGY, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND ET CETERA, IN HEALTH SO YOU HAVE HEALTH OCCUPATION.
STUDENTS OF AMERICA IN TAFE, YOU HAVE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF FUTURE EDUCATORS IN TPSA.
YOU HAVE THE TEXAS PUBLIC SERVICE ASSOCIATION STUDENTS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ET CETERA, IN AN FFA, THE CTSOS FOR AG COMPETITIONS IN AGRICULTURE, MECHANICS, ANIMAL SHOW EVENTS AND OTHER AREAS.
SO THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO DELIVER A PORTFOLIO OF CTSOS TO ALIGN TO EVERY PROGRAM OF STUDY AND EFFECTIVELY INVOLVE STUDENTS IN ALL STUDENTS IN THESE AREAS.
MS. ANNETTE DUVALL HAS REQUESTED AN INCREASE IN LOCAL BUDGET OF FIFTY THOUSAND TO SUPPORT THESE COMPETITIVE EVENTS.
ADDITIONALLY, A PARKING STIPEND WILL FUND SUMMER PLANNING AND REVITALIZATION IN THIS VERY CRITICAL, FOCUSED AREA.
THE FOCUS CONTINUES WITH BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AS A THIRD AREA OF EMPHASIS.
WE RECOGNIZE THAT IN ORDER FOR STUDENTS TO THRIVE IN PROGRAMMATIC AREAS, THAT WE MUST DESIGN A ROBUST COLLABORATION WITH INDUSTRY PARTNERS THAT REQUIRES FOCUS, RECRUITMENT, PARTNERSHIP STRUCTURES AND ACTIVITY PARTNERS TO ENGAGE IN EACH OF THE PROGRAMMATIC AREAS.
SO THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO HEAVILY RECRUIT BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO STRENGTHEN IN THESE AREAS AND BUILD AND DESIGN THESE ROBUST PARTNERSHIPS SO THAT OUR STUDENTS CAN THRIVE. WE ARE CURRENTLY PRESENTING A PERKINS FUNDED STIPEND TO PROMOTE BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS FOR ALL PROGRAMS OF STUDY TO INCREASE WORK BASED LEARNING AND ADVISORY TEAMS TO LAUNCH FORWARD. AND FOURTHLY IS AN OVERARCHING NEED TO FOCUS ON A DISTRICT WIDE INITIATIVE TO IMPROVE IN THE COLLECTION, REPORTING AND USE OF DATA FOR CONTINUOUS EVALUATION AND PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS OF PROGRAM EVALUATION.
WE FOUND IT CHALLENGING TO OBTAIN REAL TIME AND RELIABLE DATA TO SUPPORT PROGRAMING IMPROVEMENT. THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO PRODUCE A DASHBOARD SPECIFIC TO COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS AS THE UMBRELLA FOR DATA AND PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT IN CTE AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SCOTT CAMPBELL AND DR.
PORTER ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY ON A FIVE LAB SOFTWARE PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION ALONG A DALLAS PROMISE DASHBOARD THAT IS FUNDED THROUGH THE DELL FOUNDATION.
THESE ARE THE FOUR OVERARCHING AREAS PRODUCED THROUGH PROGRAM, REVIEW AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
IN SLIDE FOUR, IN THE NEXT SLIDE, I WILL SHARE OTHER AREAS OF EMPHASIS, THE CONTINUUM FOR WORK-BASED LEARNING, MEANING STARTING WITH PARDON ME INDUSTRY.
OK. INDUSTRY ALIGNED AND INTEGRATED CURRICULUM MY APOLOGY, WHICH IS FOCUSED ON CURRICULUM THAT PROVIDES REAL WORLD APPLICATION, THE SEQUENCING AND ARTICULATION OF COURSES IS THE SECOND ONE.
SEQUENCING OF COURSES THAT PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND CAREER PATH.
THIRDLY, YOU HAVE THE STUDENT ASSESSMENT WHERE THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT PROGRAMS LEAD TO INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION AND POST-SECONDARY CREDENTIALING.
AND FOURTHLY, YOU HAVE PREPARED AND EFFECTIVE PROGRAM STAFF WHERE CTE STAFF ARE PROVIDED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION AND TO STAY CURRENT WITH INDUSTRY SKILLS. FIFTH, YOU HAVE THE ENGAGING INSTRUCTION.
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION IS ALIGNED WITH INDUSTRY PRACTICES AND YOU HAVE ACCESS AND EQUITY.
[01:15:01]
ALL STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO ALL PROGRAMS OF STUDY.AND THEN SEVENTH, WE HAVE FACILITY, EQUIPMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND MATERIALS THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH INDUSTRY EXPECTATIONS AND PREPARATION.
SO MOVING INTO OUR NEXT REPORT, ITEM OF COUNSELING, I WOULD LIKE TO PAUSE AND SEE, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR THOUGHTS FOR US TO PONDER BEFORE I MOVE INTO COUNSELING? AND I ALSO HAVE ANNETTE DUVALL AVAILABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR MS. KUNSCHIK? AT THIS TIME.
ALL RIGHT, MS. KUNSCHIK OK, SO MOVING INTO OUR NEXT SECOND REPORT THE COUNSELING PROGRAM REVIEW, ONCE AGAIN, WE NARROW THE FOCUS TO FOUR OVERARCHING AREAS.
FIRST WAS A FOCUS ON A NEED TO ADOPT AN APPRAISAL MODEL SPECIFIC TO THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR.
THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO TRAIN COUNSELORS AND CAMPUS LEADERS ON THE TEXAS SCHOOL COUNSELORS EVALUATION AND SUPPORT SYSTEM AS A MODEL OF APPRAISAL.
FUNDING FOR THIS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WILL BE DRAWN FROM THE COUNSELING BUDGET.
SECONDLY IS THE PRODUCTION OF A VIABLE COUNSELING CALENDAR THAT GUIDES A SYSTEMIC APPROACH TO COUNSELING, EXPECTATIONS AND PROTOCOL.
ONCE AGAIN, THIS WILL BE FUNDED THROUGH THE COUNSELING BUDGET.
AND THIRDLY IS THE FOCUS OF DESIGNING A USE OF TIME ANALYSIS LOG ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL RECOMMENDATION IN STUDENT SCHOOL DATA.
IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ROLLS OF SCHOOL COUNSELORS VARY WITHIN CONSISTENCIES OF RESPONSIBILITIES AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL.
WE ARE IN CURRENT REVIEW AND EVALUATION TO BRIDGE THAT GAP OF THE STUDENT TO COUNCIL RATIO WHILE EVALUATING SURROUNDING DISTRICTS.
AND NOTING ALSO THAT TEXAS STUDENT RATIO AND THE NATIONAL ASCA MODEL STUDENT RATIO.
AND LASTLY, A FOCUS ONCE AGAIN ON DATA AND PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT, WE FOUND IT CHALLENGING IN THIS PROGRAM EVALUATION ALSO TO OBTAIN THE REAL TIME AND RELIABLE DATA THAT WE NEEDED TO SHOW IMPROVEMENT EXPEDITIOUSLY IN THIS PROGRAM EVALUATION THROUGH FIVE LAB, WE WILL ESTABLISH A DASHBOARD SPECIFICALLY TO THE NEEDS OF COUNSELING AS WE MOVE FORWARD AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.
MUCH LIKE CTE, I'LL TRANSITION TO TALK ABOUT SOME OTHER VARIABLES IN OUR FRAMEWORK OF YEARLY EVALUATION.
MOVE ON. MAYBE ON THAT PREVIOUS SLIDE.
YES, ON THE USE OF TIME ANALYSIS LOG WITH THE FINDING THAT THERE WERE INCONSISTENCIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF COUNSELORS AT DIFFERENT CAMPUSES.
IT SAYS THERE RECOMMENDATION IS TO ESTABLISH THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, IS THERE A SPECIFIC GOAL IN MIND LIKE SO THAT COUNSELORS CAN FOCUS MORE ON ...
IS THE GOAL JUST TO BE CONSISTENT OR CONSISTENT TOWARD A CERTAIN PURPOSE? DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? YES, IT DOES.
AND SO FOLLOWING FOLLOWING TCESS WHICH IS THE APPRAISAL MODEL, IT WILL INDICATE IN THERE RUBRIC THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT SHOULD BE ALLOTTED FOR THE COUNSELORS TO FOCUS IN DIFFERENT AREAS. AND SO THROUGH THAT APPRAISAL MODEL, IN LEARNING WHAT THE RUBRIC, WHAT THE EXPECTATIONS ARE OF THE RUBRIC AND THE PRINCIPAL AND THE COUNSELOR BEING TRAINED, WE HOPE TO MOVE MORE FORWARD, MORE CLOSELY TO THE 80-20 MODEL SO THAT WE'RE FOCUSED ON COUNSELING EXPECTATIONS IN THE BUILDING AND REALLY EVALUATING SOME OTHER AREAS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES THAT ARE THAT ARE FOCUSED OR THAT ARE TAKING THE ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE COUNSELOR. SO WE'RE JUST IN THE EVALUATION OF THAT.
AND WE KNOW THAT RUNNING THE TCESS MODEL OF APPRAISAL WILL HELP US TO BETTER ALIGN THOSE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
OK. SO WE WERE ENTERING SOME OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELING FRAMEWORK, AS YOU KNOW, JUST AS I SPOKE ABOUT CTE THERE NOT JUST ONLY FOUR COMPONENTS TO APPRAISE A PROGRAM OR TO ENSURE SUCCESS IN A PROGRAM.
THERE ARE OTHER AREAS THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON.
SO I'LL SHARE THOSE QUICKLY WITH YOU.
THE ANNUAL ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE WHERE COUNSELORS AND ADMINISTRATORS WILL ESTABLISH CAMPUS AGREEMENTS FOR YEARLY COUNSELING INITIATIVES.
THEY'LL ALSO BE A NEEDS ASSESSMENT WHERE RESULTS WILL BE REPORTED TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY . WE'LL ALSO FOCUS ON ADVISORY COUNCILS, WHERE EACH BUILDING WILL ESTABLISH AN ADVISORY COUNCIL AND ANNUAL STUDENT OUTCOMES, WHERE THESE GAPS IN SPECIFIED AREAS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND ALIGNED TO ANNUAL STUDENT OUTCOMES, GOALS AND STUDENT DATA.
[01:20:04]
AND LASTLY, DIRECT AND INDIRECT SUPPORT SERVICES THAT ADDRESS ALL THE VERY CRITICAL ROLES THAT COUNSELORS PLAY IN SERVICING THE COUNSELING NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS AND TRUSTEE BENTON. THESE ARE ALSO CHARACTERISTICS THAT RESONATE INSIDE OF THE TCESS APPRAISAL MODELS. SO BEFORE I TRANSITION INTO MY CLOSING SLIDE, I HAVE MS. TRINA HARRIS AND ALSO I HAVE ANNETTE DUVALL, IF WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE CAN ADDRESS.KUNSCHIK. THIS IS REALLY FOR MS. DUVALL AND IT'S ON ONE OF THE SLIDES WITH THE FOUR PILLARS.
IT WAS ABOUT THE I BELIEVE THE FIFTY THOUSAND I WAS TRYING TO UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THE NEED WAS IN THREE AREAS.
BUT THE FUNDING, I BELIEVE IT ONLY ADDRESSED ONE AREA.
SO I WANTED SOME CLARIFICATION, IF POSSIBLE, ON.
YES. SO SO WHERE THE FINDING WAS, THE PARTICIPATION IN THOSE PROGRAMS AND THE ACTIVITIES, LEADERSHIP EVENTS AND COMPETITIONS IS LOW AND THE FUNDING WOULD SUPPORT THE COMPETITIVE EVENT. SO I WAS JUST WONDERING, ARE WE ADDRESSING THE LOW PARTICIPATION? OR JUST. FUNDING COMPETITIONS FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE, SO LIKE THE OTHER AREAS ARE LEADERSHIP AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.
SO JUST WANTED SOME CLARIFICATION ON THAT.
MCFARLAND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, SO THANK YOU FOR THIS QUESTION.
IF YOU SEE THERE'S A STIPEND THERE THAT SAYS TWENTY SEVEN FIFTY PERKINS FUNDING, THAT IS TO BRING IN TEACHERS THIS SUMMER TO WORK ON PLANS FOR REVITALIZATION MARKETING PLANS, IDENTIFY THE COMPETITIONS AND THE LEADERSHIP EVENTS FOR EACH OF THOSE CTSOS, AND THEN WHERE YOU SEE AN INCREASE IN LOCAL BUDGET THAT'S ACTUALLY TO FUND PARTICIPATION IN THOSE EVENTS NEXT YEAR.
THAT WOULD COVER BOTH REGISTRATION FEES, TRAVEL FOR ALL STUDENTS, ALL PROGRAMS OF STUDY.
YES, MA'AM, THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTION.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MR. DUVALL OR MS. KUNSCHIK. OK.
WE SIMPLY SOUGHT TO LEAVE YOU WITH SOME RESOURCES THAT ASSISTED US IN PRODUCING THE WORK THAT WE SHARED WITH YOU THIS EVENING, AND I WOULD LIKE TO CLOSE ALSO BY RECOGNIZING ALL THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS THAT GAVE MANY AFTER HOURS, 10 MEETINGS, TO BE EXACT, IN A SIX MONTH EVALUATION CYCLE REVIEW AND TO HELP PRODUCE THESE RESULTS AND PERSONALLY TO THANK THE DIRECTORS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND GROWING MY CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS AND TO COMMUNICATE TO YOU THIS EVENING AS THE FACILITATOR OF A PROGRAM EVALUATION PROCESS.
IT WAS A GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE TO DELVE DEEPLY IN WITH THESE EXPERTS OF THESE AREAS.
SO THEY WERE TRULY THE CHAMPIONS.
AND WITH THAT, I WILL SAY THAT THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION AND WE HAD QUESTIONS.
BUT IF WE HAVE MORE, WE'RE GLAD TO TAKE THEM.
THANK YOU MS. KUNSCHIK FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD AT THIS TIME? WELL, I DEFINITELY ECHO YOUR SENTIMENTS WITH REGARDS TO THANKING EVERYONE FOR THEIR TIME IN. THE REVIEW, IN ORDER TO BRING FORWARD THIS PRESENTATION ALSO THE SAME WITH THE SUMMER PLANNING, RIGHT. IT'S A LOT OF WORK THAT GOES INTO THE PRESENTATIONS FOR YOU TO BRING THEM TO US WE KNOW ALL THE HOURS TURN INTO MAYBE 20 MINUTES OR 15 MINUTES.
BUT WE APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORT AND THE INFORMATION.
SO IF THERE'S NO OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM DR.
THANK YOU. MADAM PRESIDENT, I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE I WANTED TO JUST DRAW YOUR ATTENTION BACK TO REALLY WHY WE'RE EVEN DOING THE PROGRAM EVALUATION.
SEVERAL YEARS AGO. YOU AS A BOARD COLLECTIVELY SAID THAT WE WANTED TO HAVE A CURRICULUM AUDIT AND AS A PART OF THE CURRICULUM AUDIT, THERE WAS A RECOMMENDATION FOR US TO ALSO INSTITUTE A PROGRAM EVALUATION PROCESS.
AND SO I JUST WANTED TO JUST KIND OF REITERATE, ITS YOUR LEADERSHIP, YOUR GUIDANCE THAT REALLY CREATED THE IMPETUS FOR US TO MOVE FORWARD DOWN THIS PATH.
AND ALSO, I JUST WANTED TO RECOGNIZE MS. KUNSCHIK AND THE TEAM MAN WE HAD OVER I MEAN, PROBABLY OVER 50 OR 60 PEOPLE THAT ARE WORKING THAT WORK TO PUT THIS TOGETHER.
AND OFTENTIMES YOU SEE A PRESENTATION, YOU SEE ONE PERSON.
BUT, MAN, THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE APART OF PUTTING THIS TOGETHER.
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT TO THANK THEM FOR THEIR TIME AND THEIR EFFORT.
JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW. SO WHAT'S NEXT FOR US?
[01:25:01]
SO WHAT WE DO IS WE DO THE EVALUATION AND WITH THE EVALUATION THERE ARE RECOMMENDATIONS.WE SHARE WITH YOU SOME OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS TONIGHT.
NOW, WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS EACH OF THE DIRECTOR OVER THEIR DEPARTMENTS WILL TAKE THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS FORMULATE ACTION STEPS, GOALS AND METRICS THAT WE CAN MEASURE AND THEN OUTCOMES THAT WE'LL BRING BACK TO YOU PROBABLY WITHIN THE NEXT QUARTER OR THE SECOND QUARTER. WE'LL BRING BACK TO YOU.
KIND OF AN UPDATE OF WHERE WE ARE WITH IMPLEMENTING THE COUNSELING RECOMMENDATIONS AND WHERE WE ARE IMPLEMENTING CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION RECOMMENDATIONS.
WE JUST BELIEVE IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO CONSTANTLY BE ENGAGED IN CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.
AND WE APPRECIATE YOU BOARD FOR REALLY PUSHING US DOWN THIS ROAD.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH, DR.

MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AS THE ADMINISTRATION BEGINS TO LOOK FORWARD TO OUR REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE FOR CAPITAL ITEMS FOR THE ENSUING SCHOOL YEAR.
WE'VE PRIORITIZED THE ROOF REPLACEMENT AT THE DALLAS PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
AS MANY OF YOU WILL KNOW, THIS ROOF IS REALLY THE ORIGINAL ROOF THAT WAS INSTALLED IN 2002. IT'S EXCEEDED ITS LIFE EXPECTANCY AND IS NOW FAILING AND IS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT.
IT WILL BE REPLACED WITH THE ROOF WITH THE 20 YEAR WARRANTY.
AND AS DR. MCFARLAND MENTIONED, WE RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT THE INDUSTRY IS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING SEVERAL LONG LEAD TIME ISSUES WITH REGARD TO ROOFING MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES, FOUR TO EIGHT WEEKS SPECIFICALLY.
AND AS SUCH, AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EMERGENCY PURCHASE PROVISIONS INCORPORATED IN BOARD POLICY CH LEGAL ADMINISTRATION IS RECOMMENDING THAT THE BOARD ACCELERATE ITS ACTION ON THIS ITEM TO ENSURE THAT THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED BEFORE THE START OF SCHOOL IN THE FALL. WE'VE PROVIDED OUR EVALUATION DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR REVIEW.
OUR SELECTION WAS REALLY BASED ON A COMBINATION OF MULTIPLE CRITERIA THAT CULMINATED IN THE BEST PRICE AND DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE.
THE RECOMMENDED VENDOR HAS ACTUALLY HAD PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE ON SEVERAL ROOFING PROJECTS, ACTUALLY ROOFING PROJECTS AT SEVEN OF OUR CISD CAMPUSES, THE BUDGETARY IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT IS APPROXIMATELY SIX HUNDRED AND NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND WILL BE PAID OUT OF OUR CAPITAL PROJECT FUND AND ADMINISTRATION IS RECOMMENDING THAT THE BOARD APPROVE OUR SELECTION FOR THE COMPETITIVE SALE PROPOSAL FOR THE DALLAS PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT TO CEI ROOFING.
