[3.0 Celebrations / Board of Points of Pride]

CELEBRATIONS ARE THERE ANY CELEBRATIONS OR POINTS OF PRIDE THAT BOARD MEMBERS WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS EVENING? I'LL START, I WOULD LOVE TO START.

[00:05:09]

SO, AS ALL OF Y'ALL KNOW, I'M A BIG FINE ARTS PERSON AND IF MR. SWANN, WHATEVER MR. SWANN IS ABLE TO GET IN HERE, I HAVE A QUESTION OF CROWLEY.

BUT THE NORTH CROWLEY INDOOR COLOR GUARD WENT TO COMPETITION AND RECEIVED A SECOND PLACE UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MATT APODACA, AND THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB.

AND ALSO THE NORTH CROWLEY INDOOR DRUM LINE WENT TO BURLESON FOR THE NTCA BURLESON SHOWCASE AND RECEIVED [INAUDIBLE] OUR FIRST--.

THEY GOT FIRST IN THEIR PERFORMANCE.

SO FANTASTIC JOB.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT CROWLEY DID, IF ANYONE KNOWS, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IT, AND I'LL GIVE A SHOUT OUT AS SOON AS I FIND THAT OUT.

BUT I KNOW THAT THEY PLACED [INAUDIBLE].

EXCUSE ME. WELL, I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY PLACED, SO I DON'T WANT TO SAY ANYTHING INCORRECT, BUT CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF THEM FOR AN OUTSTANDING JOB.

[APPLAUSE] OH, ONE OTHER THING, I'M SORRY AND THERE IS A JAZZ DINNER TOMORROW AT NORTH CROWLEY. IF ANYONE WANTS TO COME SEE ME AND LISTEN TO SOME GREAT JAZZ AND HAVE DINNER, I'M HAVING THE MANICOTTI BY THE WAY.

IT'S GOING TO BE FANTASTIC AND GREAT JAZZ.

SO COME AND SEE US AT NORTH CROWLEY TOMORROW.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE GRASSIA.

TRUSTEE DAVIS. OK, DR.

HALL, I HAVE SEVERAL SINCE WE DIDN'T MEET LAST MONTH, I HAVE SEVERAL THAT I'D LIKE TO MENTION. SO THE FIRST ONE IS REGARDING NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

EACH YEAR, STUDENTS WITH A MINIMUM OF 3.6 WEIGHTED GPA ARE INVITED TO APPLY TO BECOME MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY, AND THIS YEAR WE HAD A RECORD 95 JUNIOR AND SENIOR MEMBERS INDUCTED.

[APPLAUSE] AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS, AND I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE THE FAMILIES FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF THESE STUDENTS.

THANK YOU TO THE STAFF FOR HELPING OUR STUDENTS ACHIEVE TO THEIR BEST POTENTIAL AND TO DR. STAPINSKI FOR HER LEADERSHIP AT THAT CAMPUS.

I ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND A DESTINATION DIPLOMA EVENT AND IT WAS ON FEBRUARY 18TH AND IT WAS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN CROWLEY ISD, COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF GREATER TARRANT COUNTY, TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY AND THE LADDER ALLIANCE, AND 20 YOUNG WOMEN IN GRADES 10 THROUGH 12 HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE SESSIONS, AND THE SESSIONS WERE GETTING ALONG, CONFLICT RESOLUTION, YOUR FUTURE, YOUR PAPER, WHY YOUR GRADES MATTER, YOUR 10 YEAR PLAN, LIFE AT 25, HUMBLE YOURSELF, ASKING FOR HELP ,AND PROPER SPEECH, PROPER ENVIRONMENT.

AND THE LADDER ALLIANCE STAFF FACILITATED THE SESSIONS.

AND WE KNOW COUNSELORS DO A LOT OF THESE SAME SERVICES, BUT THEY CAN'T DO IT ALL.

SO BEING ABLE TO PARTNERSHIP WITH AN ORGANIZATION LIKE THIS IS HELPING OUR STUDENTS GET SOME OF THE SKILLS THAT WILL SERVE THEM WELL IN THE FUTURE.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO DR.

JOHNSON AND HIS STAFF FOR MAKING THIS AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS.

AND THEN.

I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE JROTC BALL SATURDAY NIGHT, AND CONGRATULATIONS TO LIEUTENANT COLONEL SAWYER AND HIS STAFF FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL MILITARY BALL.

THE STUDENTS EXHIBITED POISE AND CONFIDENCE AS THEY REPRESENTED OUR JROTC PROGRAM, AND JROTC IS TRULY A POINT OF PRIDE IN CROWLEY.

SO THANK YOU, LIEUTENANT COLONEL SAWYER, AND YOUR STAFF, FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP WITH THIS GROUP OF STUDENTS.

[APPLAUSE] ARE THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTEES THAT WOULD LIKE TO SHARE CELEBRATIONS THIS EVENING? YEAH, I'D LIKE TO MENTION CROWLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, THEY HAD THEIR FAMILY ACADEMIC NIGHT ON

[00:10:03]

MONDAY THE 21ST, AND FAMILIES DISCOVER VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT TUTORING OPTIONS AND THEN INCREASED ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND GAIN ACCESS TO CONTENT SPECIFIC MATERIALS THAT THEY COULD USE TO ASSIST THEIR STUDENTS IN EXCELLING IN THEIR CLASSES.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE RAY.

[APPLAUSE] I'D LIKE TO SHARE DR.

HALL. ALL RIGHT, DR.

MAYFIELD. ALL RIGHT, SO EARLIER THIS MONTH ON SATURDAY, SO LAST SATURDAY, MARCH 5TH, 150 AND FAMILIES ATTENDED THE DISABILITY CONNECTIONS FAIR.

AND SO PARTICIPANTS ENJOYED OVER 30 VENDORS AND SESSIONS ON TOPICS SUCH AS COLLEGE PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT AND THE ESSENTIALS OF CAREGIVING. SO THIS WAS A FAMILY EVENT, AND WE JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE THOSE FAMILIES FOR PARTICIPATING AND THOSE STAFF MEMBERS THAT HELPED TO HOST THIS EVENT.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DR.

MAYFIELD. [APPLAUSE] ARE THERE ANY OTHER POINTS OF PRIDE THIS EVENING FROM TRUSTEE? OH, JUNE, YOU HAVE SOME MS. DAVIS. NO, MA'AM.

I'M DONE. THANK YOU.

OH.

[LAUGHTER] OK. OK.

TRUSTEE ROBINSON ALSO HAD THINGS TO CELEBRATE, BUT SHE WANTED TO CELEBRATE THE SAME THINGS AS TRUSTEE DAVIS AND TRUSTEE GRASSIA WOULD LIKE TO GO AGAIN.

SO, [LAUGHTER] 2.0.

SO ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE.

THE CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL WINTER GUARD WAS PROMOTED AT THEIR FIRST CONTEST AND IS NOW COMPETING IN CLASS RAA, WHICH IS THE REGIONAL DOUBLE A CLASS.

THEY HAVE TWO CONTESTS REMAINING ONE IN MARCH, MARCH 19TH AT WAXAHATCHEE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEY HAD THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST ON MARCH 26TH.

SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO AND [INAUDIBLE] GO OUT TO WAXAHATCHEE OR SOMETHING, THEY WOULD LOVE YOUR SUPPORT.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

ONE MORE. [APPLAUSE] I HAVE ONE MORE.

ONE MORE. [LAUGHTER] OKAY.

AND IT'LL BE REALLY QUICK BECAUSE I THINK THEY'RE GETTING CELEBRATED TONIGHT, BUT I'M A PROUD PARENT AS WELL. SO, I WAS IN WEATHERFORD A FEW WEEKS AGO AND WAS VERY PROUD TO SEE OUR NORTH CROWLEY SILVER STARS COMPETE, AND I'M GOING TO JUST NOT DO THE DRUM ROLL OR ANYTHING YET. I'LL SAVE THAT.

BUT IT WAS IT WAS VERY, VERY NICE TO SEE THE ACTUAL PERFORMANCE THERE IN WEATHERFORD, AND THAT WAS AN ALL DAY EVENT THAT WAS LIKE 12 HOURS OF THOSE KID'S DAY.

SO LOTS OF HARD WORK, BUT IT PAID OFF.

SO THERE YOU GO. [APPLAUSE] SHOUT OUT TO THE SILVER STARS.

OK, SO ARE THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTEES? I WANT TO SHARE JUST TWO POINTS OF PRIDE.

ONE NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART IS THE SUMMER CREEK FOOD PANTRY.

IT OPENED THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH, WITH THE HELP OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TARRANT AREA FOOD BANK, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE NOW ABLE TO CONVENIENTLY PICK UP NEEDED ITEMS, NEEDED FOOD, CLOTHING OR SCHOOL SUPPLY ITEMS AT THE CAMPUS PANTRY. SO SHOUT OUT TO SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR PROVIDING THIS RESOURCE TO OUR CROWLEY ISD COMMUNITY.

[APPLAUSE] SO MY OTHER POINT OF PRIDE IS ACTUALLY I GOT TO PARTICIPATE LAST WEEK WITH LITTER DAY WITH DR. J.

SO I KNOW, YOU KNOW, JARED WILLIAMS, DR.

WILLIAMS IS OUR COUNCILMAN IN DISTRICT SIX, AND ON THE FORWARD SIDE OF CROWLEY ISD, BUT WE DID CLEAN UP THE NORTH CROWLEY PORTION OF SUMMER CREEK.

SO I WANT TO SAY THAT DR.

JAY DID FIND A $100 BILL TO WHICH HE TREATED US ALL BRUNCH AFTERWARDS.

SO IF YOU WANT TO COME DOING A LITTLE SCAVENGING WITH US, WE'RE GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN NEXT MONTH ON SATURDAY, APRIL 16TH.

IT STARTS APPROPRIATELY AT 9:00 A.M.

SO YOU CAN STILL SLEEPING A LITTLE BIT, BUT IT'S A GREAT TIME.

WE MAKE THIS A POINT OF PRIDE FOR CROWLEY BECAUSE WE HAD A NUMBER OF CROWLEY ISD PARENTS OUT THERE CLEANING UP WITH US, SO WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE OUR CROWLEY EXTENDED FAMILY OUT THERE AS WELL. ALL RIGHT.

AND I THINK THAT IS IT FOR OUR POINTS OF PRIDE, YES? GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN CROWLEY ISD.

AS YOU CAN SEE, WE COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT ALL THE GREAT THINGS, BUT THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK AND ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU DO OUT THERE, CROWLEY ISD FAMILY TO MAKE THESE THINGS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO RECOGNITION ITEMS.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING THIS NEXT RECOGNITION FORWARD.

AS YOU KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN VERY INTENTIONAL THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR [INAUDIBLE] RECOGNIZING STUDENTS HERITAGE, RECOGNIZING CULTURES AND REALLY MAKING SURE THAT KIDS CAN NOT ONLY BE ACKNOWLEDGED, BUT ALSO CELEBRATED AND EDUCATED AS IT RELATES TO THEIR HISTORY AND THEIR HERITAGE. OUR WHOLE GOAL AND OUR MISSION IN CROWLEY ISD IS TO ENSURE THAT OUR STUDENTS RECEIVE EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION SO THAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL, AND IT STARTS WITH THEM UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWING WHO THEY ARE.

SO WE ARE SO PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS AND THE ADULTS WHO HAVE WORKED WITH THEM.

MS. ISABELL AND MS. POLK WILL BE PRESENTING THIS ITEM.

GOOD EVENING, DR.

MCFARLAND, PRESIDENT HALL AND BOARD MEMBERS.

TONIGHT, WE ARE PLEASED TO MAKE THIS REPORT ON THE ANNUAL AND WE KEEP HOPING [INAUDIBLE] KEEPS GOING, VIRTUAL BLACK HISTORY BOWL, WHICH WAS HELD ON FEBRUARY 25TH.

THE REPORT ADDRESSES ALL THREE GOALS, THRIVING STUDENTS, ENGAGED COMMUNITY AND EMPOWERED STAFF. THE FATHER OF BLACK HISTORY, CARTER G.

WOODSON, STARTED THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION.

HE RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A NEED TO CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS IF OUR STUDENTS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO THRIVE AND GROW AND MOVE FORWARD.

HE FARTHER SAW A NEED TO ALSO IDENTIFY A THEME EACH YEAR, AND THE THEME FOR THIS YEAR IS BLACK HEALTH AND WELLNESS.

AND IF YOU SEE ON THE BOARD, OUR FORMER FIRST LADY, MICHELLE OBAMA SAID, WELL, GOOD HEALTH IS MULTIFACETED.

IT'S PHYSICAL, IT'S ETERNAL, IT'S MY DIET, IT'S MY EMOTIONAL STATE.

IT ALL TIES IN TOGETHER.

THAT MESSAGE STUDENTS STUDIED ABOUT AND LEARNED ABOUT ACHIEVEMENTS OF BLACK AFRICAN-AMERICANS IN SCIENCE AND MEDICINE.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE INFORMATION THEY LEARNED, AND IT'S MOST APPROPRIATE RIGHT NOW COMING OUT OF THIS COVID 19 YEAR.

SO WE'RE HERE TO CELEBRATE THEM AND MS. POLK WILL COME FORWARD AND GIVE YOU ALL OF THOSE WONDERFUL WINNERS.

MS. POLK. THANK YOU, MS. ISABELL.

MCFARLAND, WE JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO HAVE THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS HERE IN CROWLEY ISD. WE JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO YOU ALL FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT SUPPORT TO US. WE THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

WELL, WE DEFINITELY WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOU AND ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS NAMES UP THERE SO THAT WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU AND KNOW WHO EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE.

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS OUR IS THIS OUR FOURTH [INAUDIBLE] THIS IS OUR FOURTH.

YES, THIS IS OUR FOURTH [INAUDIBLE] AND IT ONLY SEEMS TO GET BETTER AND BETTER.

I DIDN'T GET TO ATTEND THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF WEATHER AND RESCHEDULING, BUT I KNOW THAT IT WAS AMAZING AND I HEARD NOTHING BUT GREAT THINGS.

BUT THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HARD WORK THAT YOU PUT INTO IT AND FOR GIVING OUR STUDENTS A PLACE TO, I DON'T KNOW, CELEBRATE THEMSELVES, RECOGNIZE, LEARN HISTORY, COMPETE AND COME TOGETHER. AND I LOOK FORWARD TO I DON'T KNOW MORE CELEBRATIONS.

Y'ALL ARE DOING AMAZING WORK AND THOSE TROPHIES, Y'ALL, THOSE ARE AMAZING.

THEY'RE NOT PARTY CITY TROPHIES.

SO GREAT ADDED TOUCH.

THANK YOU FOR THAT AS WELL.

THANK YOU. I GOT JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE.

THAT'S OK. SO HARRIET TUBMAN SAID EVERY GREAT DREAM BEGINS WITH A DREAMER, AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MS. ISABELL FOR BEING THAT DREAMER.

BRINGING THE CROWLEY, THE BLACK HISTORY AND THE HISPANIC HERITAGE QUIZ BOWL TO CROWLEY ISD HAS TRULY MADE AN IMPACT TO CROWLEY ISD AND MS. ISABELL WE THANK YOU.

I ALSO LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO THANK THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS BESIDES THEIR NORMAL JOBS, DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

THEY WORKED HARD AND EFFORTLESS AND WITHOUT A TEAM, IT CAN'T BE DONE.

AND SO I ALSO WANT TO THANK OUR VOLUNTEERS, OUR COACHES, OUR STUDENTS, OUR NURSES, OUR PARENTS AND ALL OF CISD BECAUSE IT TOOK ALL OF US TO MAKE THIS EVENT HAPPEN.

[00:35:01]

AND I AM SO HAPPY TO BE HERE WITH YOU ALL AND SO THANKFUL AND JUST SO EXCITED.

SO NOW THANK YOU AGAIN [APPLAUSE].

DR. HALL, I JUST SO MS. DAVIS AND I WERE UP THERE LIKE 30 MINUTES AFTER IT STARTED, AND IT WASN'T, YOU KNOW, LIKE THE FIRST YEAR WHERE WE'RE KIND OF ALL TOGETHER AND, YOU KNOW, WITH LITTLE BUZZERS AND STUFF LIKE THAT, THIS ACTUALLY WAS LIKE OVER THE INTERNET AND AND IT'S JUST AMAZING TECHNOLOGY AND ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT CAME TOGETHER TO PUT THIS TOGETHER WAS AMAZING.

SO IF YOU HAD ANY PART TO DO WITH THIS HATS OFF TO YOU ALL.

HATS OFF TO DR.

MCFARLAND SPOKE AWESOME [INAUDIBLE] EVERYONE MS. ISABELL VERY GREAT JOB, Y'ALL.

VERY GOOD. ALL RIGHT, YOU GUYS, WE ARE NOW AT AGENDA ITEM 4.3, WHICH IS OUR HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD.

DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO PRESENT THIS NEXT ITEM. MS. DIGGLES WILL BE PRESENTING THE HEARTBEAT OF THE HEART THE HEARTBEAT AWARD OF THE MONTH.

MS. DIGGLES, DR.

HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR.

MCFARLAND. THIS AGENDA ITEM ALIGNS WITH GOAL THREE EMPOWERED STAFF, AND EVERY MONTH WE GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE ONE OF OUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS.

AND THIS MONTH'S WINNER IS A KEY PLAYER IN SO MANY PROJECTS AND SO MANY DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT. LET'S WATCH THIS VIDEO.

[VIDEO] SURPRISE [APPLAUSE] WE GOT YOU.

WE ARE HERE BECAUSE CRYSTAL POLK IS THE HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER FOR ALL OF CROWLEY ISD [APPLAUSE] SO MS. HALL WORKS VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS LIKE THIS AND ALL OVER CROWLEY ISD HAPPEN.

SHE ALSO HELPS BRING IN MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN GRANTS TO HELP STUDENTS THRIVE IN OUR DISTRICT.

EVERY MONTH, SHE'S HERE AT JACKIE CARDEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WORKING VERY HARD WITH THE TARRANT AREA FOOD BANK TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR FAMILIES, AND SHE'S HELPING PLAN THE BLACK HISTORY QUIZ BOWL FOR ALL THE CROWLEY ISD THAT SOME OF YOU ALL ARE GOING TO BE COMPETING IN. SO FOR ALL THOSE REASONS, MS. POLK IS THE HEARTBEAT WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR HER [APPLAUSE]. I THINK IT'S SO BEFITTING FOR HER TO, YOU KNOW, RECEIVE THE HEARTBEAT AWARD BECAUSE SHE IS LIKE LITERALLY ONE OF THE HEARTBEATS OF CISD.

I MEAN, SHE IS ALWAYS ON THE SCENE WORKING.

I MEAN, I KNOW HER PLATE IS FULL, BUT SHE ENJOYS IT AND SHE DOES IT SO WELL.

I LOVE IT. YES, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

LET'S FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK WITH TIMING.

WHEN I THINK ABOUT CRYSTAL POLK.

I'LL LOOK INTO THE DEFINITION OF SERVICE AND SUPPORT IN THE DICTIONARY, AND YOU WILL FIND HER NAME BEHIND IT BECAUSE SHE IS THE EXAMPLE OF WHAT SERVICE AND SUPPORT SHOULD BE LIKE.

BECAUSE NOT ONLY DOES SHE BRING SERVICE TO THE DISTRICT IN HER JOB AS GRANT WRITER, SHE IS BRINGING MORE THAN SIXTY THREE MILLION DOLLARS.

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT COMPLEX IDEAS, SHE CAN TAKE A REALLY COMPLEX, DETAILED IDEA THAT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND, AND SHE CAN SYNTHESIZE IT AND BRING IT DOWN TO SOMETHING THAT'S SIMPLE AND YOU CAN ALL FOLLOW IT.

I KNOW AS WE'RE WORKING ON PROJECTS, I REALLY GET EXCITED BECAUSE I KNOW THAT SHE WILL CAPTURE THAT AND PUT IT IN A SIMPLE PLAN THAT CAN BE FOLLOWED.

CRYSTAL ALSO HAS THAT ARTISTIC ABILITY.

SO WITH HER GRANT WRITING HER ABILITY TO SYNTHESIZE THINGS AND THEN WITH HER ARTISTIC TOUCH, SHE'S DONE SO MUCH FOR CROWLEY.

THE BACKDROP FOR THE BLACK HISTORY BOWL, BACKDROP FOR CONVOCATION.

SO YOU VERY SELDOM FIND A PERSON WHO HAS THAT CONCRETE AND ARTISTIC ABILITY ROLLED INTO ONE. AND BECAUSE OF THAT, I AM SO PROUD THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SERVE WITH HER FOR THESE PAST FOUR YEARS.

MY WHY FOR GETTING UP EVERY DAY AND COMING TO WORK IS THAT I'M HELPING BE ABLE TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDENTS WHO WOULD NEVER HAVE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES.

BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE SOMETHING WHERE THEY CAN'T GO TO ANOTHER DISTRICT AND GET IT QUITE LIKE THEY CAN GET IT HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

BUT BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE NOT ONLY FOR STUDENTS, BUT FOR FAMILIES AS WELL.

ONE OF THE GRANTS THAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE AND CROWLEY ISD IS OUR 21ST CENTURY AFTER SCHOOL GRANT. I LOVE THAT GRANT AND THIS WAS A COMPETITIVE GRANT THAT WE WERE ABLE TO RECEIVE HEADED FOR OVER 14 YEARS IN CROWLEY ISD.

[00:40:02]

AND IT'S TRULY MY HEART BECAUSE SO MANY STUDENTS HAVE OPPORTUNITIES AFTER SCHOOL THAT THEY WOULDN'T HAVE WE'RE ABLE TO HELP PARENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE TUTORIAL SERVICES.

WE'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS TO LEARN DIFFERENT THINGS JUST ACROSS THE DISTRICT. AND SO THAT JUST MAKES MY HEART SO HAPPY.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH CRYSTAL FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS, AND SHE'S JUST REALLY BEEN AN AWESOME BOSS, MENTOR, AND EVERYTHING.

SHE IS CARING.

SHE LOVES STUDENTS AND SHE'S GOING TO DO WHATEVER SHE CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GET EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TARRANT AREA FOOD BANK IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

I MEAN, WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT EVERY MONTH BECAUSE WE KNOW WHEN WE GET THERE, THOSE PATRONS THAT ARE THERE ARE IN NEED AND THEY NEED US THERE.

THEY NEED US TO BE THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GET THE FOOD THAT, YOU KNOW, MAY HELP FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, MAYBE EVEN HELP, YOU KNOW, FOR THE NEXT MONTH.

BUT ONE THING ABOUT CRYSTAL POLK, SHE IS GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT FOOD BANK IS THERE.

AND ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT CRYSTAL POLK IS THAT SHE IS GONE SHE IS HANDS ON.

IT'S NOT LIKE, HEY, YOU GO DO THIS OR YOU GO DO THIS.

NO, SHE'S RIGHT IN THERE STUFFING BOXES PULLING CARDS THROUGH THE LINE.

IT REALLY SPEAKS TO THE SENTIMENT OF OUR DISTRICT, ACT LIKE A FAMILY AND WORK LIKE A TEAM. I TRULY ENJOY THAT WE'VE HELPED SOMEONE THAT WE DID OUR PARTS AND AND WE MADE A DIFFERENCE TO THAT PERSON THAT DAY, WHEREAS THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE THAT HELP, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO TO HELP THEM.

[APPLAUSE] ALL RIGHT. COME ON UP.

NOW, SHE TOLD ME JUST TODAY, IF YOU SEE ME CRY, YOU BETTER RUN.

MS. POLK IS HERE TONIGHT WITH HER FAMILY.

LIEUTENANT POLK IS HERE AND HER CHILDREN.

I THINK THAT'S HER MOM.

AND I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT WE APPRECIATE YOU.

I KNOW THAT OUR TRUSTEES APPRECIATE YOU AND HOW YOU JUST BRING YOUR WHOLE SELF TO EVERY PROJECT. I TOLD I WAS GOING TO ASK HER TO MAKE A SPEECH AT THIS TIME.

I DON'T HAVE A SPEECH, BUT I'M HONORED AND I AM HUMBLED TO BE IN CROWLEY ISD AND TO BE AN EMPLOYEE HERE. I'M SO THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL FOR MY FAMILY IN CROWLEY ISD.

I'M ALSO THANKFUL FOR MY FLESH AND BLOOD FAMILY.

MY HUSBAND, MY DAUGHTER, MY MOM, MY DAD AND SON ARE SOMEWHERE ON THE WAY.

BUT HEY, I'M SO THANKFUL FOR THEM AS WELL.

BUT THANK YOU.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

[APPLAUSE] WELL, MS. POLK, I CAN'T THINK OF A I DON'T KNOW A MORE DESERVING PERSON AND MS. ISABELL DID A FANTASTIC JOB.

I'M GOING TO USE HER WORDS SYNTHESIZING WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING.

YOU ARE SO TALENTED, SO COMMITTED, SO DEDICATED, AND HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK ALONGSIDE YOU AND ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT PROJECTS.

AND I THINK EVERYONE HERE WOULD SAY THAT THAT YOU TRULY EMBODY A SERVANT LEADER.

YOU REALLY DO HAVE A SERVANT'S HEART AND YOU ALWAYS BRING A SMILE AND YOU GOT IT UNDER CONTROL, TOO. SO WE APPRECIATE THAT.

SO CONGRATULATIONS AND FAMILY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.

WE LIKE TO SEE THE PEOPLE BEHIND OUR PEOPLE.

SO GREAT TO SEE YOU AS WELL.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TO CELEBRATE.

AND IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER BOARD MEMBERS THAT WANT TO SAY SOME REMARKS TO CRYSTAL BECAUSE I KNOW WE ALL LOVE HER.

Y'ALL GOOD I'M PUTTING YOU ON THE SPOT.

COME ON DOWN HERE, SHAKE HANDS, YOU HAVE TO DO IT TOO.

AND WE ALSO LOVE THAT YOUR SERVICE ALSO COMES WITH SIXTY THREE MILLION DOLLARS [LAUGHTER] THAT ALSO HELPS TO LIVE.

CONGRATULATIONS MS. POLK. ALL RIGHT, AGENDA ITEM 4.4.

I KNOW DR.

[00:50:05]

ITEM 5.1 THE B.R.

I'M SORRY, B.R.J CTE CENTER SHOWCASE DR.

MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS WERE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO SHOWCASE THIS NEXT ITEM. THIS ITEM IS ACTUALLY AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO SHOWCASE OUR BILL OR JOHNSON CTE CENTER.

WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THE OUTSTANDING THINGS THAT WE HAVE GOING OVER AT THE BILL R JOHNSON CENTER, WE HAVE DR.

MARKEBA WARFIELD HERE TONIGHT TO PRESENT THIS ITEM.

SO DR. WARFIELD, WILL YOU PLEASE COME, COME FORWARD? MADAM PRESIDENT, DR.

MCFARLAND AND OUR DISTINGUISHED BOARD, GOOD EVENING AND THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO SHARE JUST A SNIPPET A LITTLE BITTY TINY PIECE OF OUR CTE DETAILS CONCERNING THE INITIATIVES THAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON AT THE BILL R.

JOHNSON CTE CENTER AS IT RELATES TO BRIDGING THE WORK OF OUR STEM FOCUS AT THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL THROUGH OUR GARDEN PROJECT AND OUR CAREER AND TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS OUR CTSOS.

AND JUST SO THAT, YOU KNOW, OUR CTSOS ARE LIKE OUR SPORTS, IT IS OUR SOCCER, OUR SWIMMING, OUR ALL OF THAT.

SO WE'LL TALK ABOUT OUR CTSOS TONIGHT.

THIS HAS TO DO WITH OUR GOAL ONE OF THRIVING STUDENTS.

AND SO BASED ON OUR CTE AUDIT THAT WAS DONE LAST YEAR, WE FOCUSED OUR ATTENTION ON OUR CTSOS IN A COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT.

WE RECENTLY ALSO HOSTED A MIDDLE SCHOOL SATURDAY CAMP, AND WE HAVE OPENED SELF-GUIDED TOURS EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY FOR OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS.

AND SO BEFORE WE DIVE ALL THE WAY IN, PLEASE LET ME EXPRESS MY SINCERE GRATITUDE TO YOU, DR. MCFARLAND, AND TO THE BOARD AND TO ALSO OUR DISTRICT LEADERS FOR THEIR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT IN REMOVING ANY FINANCIAL BARRIERS THAT WE MAY HAVE HAD WITH STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN OUR CTSOS, AND THEN ALSO ACTIVELY SUPPORTING ALL OF OUR INNOVATIVE PROGRAMING PROGRAMING THAT WE'VE IMPLEMENTED.

I DO HAVE MRS. TATE, WHO IS OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL HERE, TO HIGHLIGHT OUR CTSO PARTICIPATION.

AND THEN DR.

MRS. GRAY IS HERE, WHO IS OUR GARDEN PROJECT CHAMPION WHO WILL SHARE THOSE DETAILS.

COSMETOLOGY IS HERE, DR.

BELL. SHE'S ONE OF OUR COSMETOLOGY TEACHERS HERE WITH A FEW OF OUR STUDENTS WHO CAN ALSO SHARE. IF YOU MISSED IT, WE DO HAVE SOME PROJECTS OUT IN THE FOYER.

AND SO PLEASE GO BY AND SEE SOME OF THOSE.

SO AT THIS TIME, MRS. TATE WILL SHARE.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE, DR.

HALL. DR.

MCFARLAND AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

I AM GOING TO SHARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS AND RESULTS FROM OUR CTSO ORGANIZATION THUS FAR.

OUR DRONE, I'LL BE BRJ DRONE AND ROBOTICS TEAM COMPETED IN THE BELL FLIGHT DRONE COMPETITION, AND THEY PLACE EIGHT OUT OF TWENTY TEAMS. WE HAVE TWO STUDENTS WHO HAVE RECENTLY TESTED AND PASSED THEIR DRONE LICENSES FOR PILOT.

OUR MOCK TRIAL TEAM COMPETED IN NOVEMBER.

AND 15 OF THOSE STUDENTS ADVANCED TO STATE THE TSPA REGIONAL AND MOCK TRIAL STATE COMPETITION WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED IN JANUARY, BUT BECAUSE OF THE ICE, IT WAS RESCHEDULED FOR APRIL.

AND THAT'S OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM.

WE HAD SEVENTY FIVE STUDENTS FROM ARCHITECTURE AND MEDIA PROGRAMS TO COMPETE IN OUR TSA, WHICH IS OUR TECHNICAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION AT THE REGIONAL CONTEST TWO WEEKS AGO.

FORTY EIGHT OF THOSE STUDENTS PLACED AT REGIONAL, AND WE HAVE SIXTY THAT WILL BE COMPETING AT STATE IN APRIL.

OUR SKILLS USA TEAMS COMPETED IN APPROXIMATELY ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY STUDENTS IN COSMETOLOGY, AUTO MECHANICS AND HEALTH SCIENCE TWO WEEKS AGO AT SOME OF OUR TCC CAMPUSES AND AT OUR BRJ CENTER.

WE HAD A STUDENT TO PLACE FIRST AND SECOND IN BASIC HEALTH SKILLS.

THIRD PLACE IN MEDICAL MATH IN THE DISTRICT AND COSMETOLOGY HAD THIRTEEN PROJECTS ALL GOING TO STATE, AND THEY WILL COMPETE IN CORPUS CHRISTI NEXT MONTH.

LAST WEEK WE HAD FIFTEEN STUDENTS FROM OUR LCCLA TEAMS WITH CULINARY COMPETED AT THE REGIONAL COMPETITION IN WACO.

AND WE HAVE TEN SCHOLARS WHO WILL BE GOING TO CORPUS CHRISTI ALSO NEXT MONTH TO COMPETE AT THE STATE LEVEL.

CURRENTLY, OUR FFA CONTINUES TO INCREASE THEIR ENROLLMENT FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW FROM SEVENTY FIVE PARTICIPANTS TO ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX MEMBERS.

FORTY TWO STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN SHOWING OVER SIXTY EIGHT ANIMALS AND SIX [INAUDIBLE] PROJECTS AT THE MAJOR STOCK SHOWS THIS SPRING, INCLUDING THE FORT WORTH, SAN ANGELO, SAN ANTONIO AND THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW.

LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS AND [INAUDIBLE] HAVE BOTH RECEIVED MANY BLUE RIBBONS AND HONORABLE MENTIONS. TWO STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED A FIVE HUNDRED BEEF CATTLE SCRAMBLE CERTIFICATE TO

[00:55:02]

PURCHASE A HEIFER FOR NEXT YEAR AND ONE RECEIVEDA SCRAMBLE CERTIFICATE FROM THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW WORTH TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS.

CURRENTLY, WE HAVE ABOUT FIFTY TWO STUDENTS THAT WAS SOME OF OUR SPONSORS WAS GOING TO BE HERE TONIGHT. THEY'RE CURRENTLY AT THE TARRANT COUNTY LIVESTOCK SHOW THIS WEEK, SO THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO JOIN US THE STUDENTS FROM OUR FFA PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY ARE AT THE COUNTY SHOW CURRENTLY. SO AGAIN, AT THE END OF THE YEAR, WE WILL HAVE A FULL ANALYSIS OF ALL OF OUR TEAM RESULTS, BUT THOSE WHO ARE ALL OF OUR HIGHLIGHTS FOR OUR CURRENTLY CTSO PROGRAMS. [APPLAUSE] ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AS FAR AS THE CTSO? CAN YOU CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT CTSO STANDS FOR? PROGRAM OF STUDIES.

THERE IS A CLUB THAT KIND OF GOES ALONG WITH EACH OF THOSE.

AND SO WE DO PUSH FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY IN THAT BECAUSE IT'S JUST ENHANCE THEIR THEIR LEARNING, THEIR TEAM ASPECTS.

AGAIN, WE HAVE THREE MEMBERS OF OUR CURRENT COSMETOLOGY CTSO THEY'RE IN SKILLS USA FOR COSMETOLOGY AND THEY COMPETED IN.

I FORGOT THE NAME OF THEIR COMPETITION SO AGAIN, IT ENHANCES WHAT WE WHAT THEY LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE DAY, AND THEY COMPETE IN THOSE. OK, ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION AND YOU MAY HAVE SAID AND I MISSED IT, BUT WITH THE FFA.

DO OUR STUDENTS SELL, TAKE THEIR ANIMALS TO THE FAIR AND SELL THEM, OR ARE THEY STRICTLY FOR SHOW? IT DEPENDS ON THE ANIMAL AND THE SHOW AND THE TIME.

SO THERE IS THERE'S LOTS OF VARIABLES, SO WE SOLD SHEEP, HEIFERS, GOATS.

HELP ME OUT SHEEP, RABBITS.

SO IT DEPENDS ON THE TIMING OF THE OF THE SHOW.

AND THEN AT THE END OF THE SEASON, A LOT OF THEM ARE SOLD OR NOT.

OK, THANK YOU. WE'VE GOT WE GOT A FEW GOATS THAT EVERY YEAR THERE'S A GIRL THAT CALLS SOMEWHERE, FINDS MY WIFE AND SAYS I DIDN'T REALIZE MY GOAT WAS GOING TO GO TO SLAUGHTER.

[LAUGHTER] SO WE END UP GETTING ALL THESE GOATS AND THEY'RE ALL JUMPERS.

SO IF THEY IF THEY'RE NOT SOLD, SORRY, WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM? THEY CAN COME TO OUR FARM AND LIVE OUT THEIR DAYS.

NEVER MIND, NEVER MIND. I RETRACT THE QUESTION OK, AND NOW WE HAVE AN UPDATE FOR OUR GARDEN PROJECT. GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, DR.

MCFARLAND, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

MY NAME IS SHANTEL GRAY AND I AM AN ARCHITECTURE TEACHER AT BILL JOHNSON CTE, AND I'M ALSO COORDINATOR FOR THE COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT THAT WE STARTED THERE THIS PAST FALL.

I'D LIKE TO SHARE A FEW UPDATES ON THE STATUS OF THE PROJECT.

CURRENTLY, OUR CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON THE RACE GARDEN BEDS, AND THEY'RE IN PROCESS OF COMPLETING THE FIRST 14 OF 20 TOTAL BIDS.

THEY ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO GET THOSE COMPLETED, AND WE'RE HOPING TO HAVE SOME UP AND RUNNING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS.

WE'VE ALSO BEEN I'M SORRY.

WE'VE BEEN CONDUCTING WORKSHOPS AFTER SCHOOL ON A RANGE OF TOPICS, INCLUDING SEED STARTING A GARDEN TO TABLE COOKING DEMO AND OTHER SUBJECTS THAT WE'VE HAD OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS COME TO AND ATTEND.

WE SEND OUT A FLIER MONTHLY TO PARENTS VIA PEACH JAR, AND THAT'S ALSO FORWARDED TO OUR COUNSELORS, OUR STEM PLUS COORDINATORS AND OUR 21ST CENTURY PROGRAM COORDINATORS.

AND THERE ARE SOME PICTURES HERE BEHIND YOU GUYS ON THE SCREEN.

IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER IS A GROUP OF STUDENTS FROM DAVID L.

WALKER. THEY WERE ATTENDING OUR FIRST WORKSHOP THIS PAST FALL.

THE PHOTO NEXT TO THAT TO THE RIGHT IS CHEF Z CONDUCTING OUR COOKING DEMO, AND THAT WAS IN THE WINTER AND THEY ACTUALLY LEARNED HOW TO MAKE POTATO SOUP.

NEXT TO THAT IS A PICTURE OF SOME SEEDLINGS AND POTS.

AND THEN TO THE FAR RIGHT IN THE UPPER CORNER IS MS.

[01:00:02]

JUNE DAVIS AND ONE OF OUR STUDENTS FROM MARY HARRIS ELEMENTARY.

AND THEN FINALLY, IN THAT LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER IS A GROUP OF STUDENTS AT OUR FIRST WORKSHOP, WHICH WAS OUR SEED STARTING WORKSHOP.

SO WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUING THOSE.

OVERALL, OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE THOSE FIELD TRIPS WHERE THEY'RE DURING THE DAY, SO WE HAVE MORE STUDENTS ABLE TO ACTUALLY COME AND ACCESS THE COMMUNITY GARDEN, LEARN ABOUT IT AND THEN AT SOME POINT THE PROJECT SHOULD GROW AND BE ABLE TO INCORPORATE MORE OF THE FAMILIES AS WELL.

SO. YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FROM TRUSTEES? I'D JUST LIKE TO ADD A LITTLE BIT TO THAT WITH THE COMMUNITY GARDEN, THE VISION IS FOR US, BECAUSE WE ARE A STEM FOR ALL DISTRICT AND WE RECOGNIZE THAT AGRICULTURE, SCIENCE AND ALL THESE THINGS ARE INTERTWINED INTO THIS.

EVENTUALLY, WE'D LIKE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SURE THAT NOT ONLY ALL OF OUR KIDS AT ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE, BUT SOON WE'LL BE ABLE TO, ON SATURDAYS, HAVE IT WHERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO COME UP AND ACTUALLY PULL FROM THE GARDEN AND ALSO ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE GARDEN.

SO WE REALLY WANT THIS TO BE A CENTRAL PART OF NOT ONLY OUR CTE PROGRAM, BUT OUR STEM EFFORTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

AND DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY I THANK YOU TEAM FOR PULLING TOGETHER.

THANK YOU. AND I DID WANT TO MENTION THIS IS A SEVERAL STEPS TO THAT PROJECT.

WE HAVE ABOUT EIGHT ACRES TO WORK WITH, AND SO STEP ONE WAS TO START WITH SEEDLINGS BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER AND ALL OF THAT.

BUT WE WILL HAVE A PAVILION THERE WHERE WE HAVE A PLACE WHERE STUDENTS CAN COME AND LEARN MORE ABOUT AGRICULTURE.

WE'LL HAVE A PLACE FOR THE COMMUNITY TO ALSO DO THAT SO THAT WHATEVER THEY LEARN ON CAMPUS WITH US, THEY CAN ALSO RECIPROCATE THAT ONCE THEY GET HOME.

WE DO HAVE A GREENHOUSE OUT THERE, BUT THEN WE PLAN TO HAVE EIGHT ROWS OF IN-GROUND IN ADDITION TO OUR 20 ABOVEGROUND BEDS THAT WE WILL RENT OUT PER SE TO THE COMMUNITY WHOEVER APPLIES AND IS CHOSEN TO HAVE SOME OF THOSE COMMUNITY BEDS ONCE THOSE ARE COMPLETE.

OK. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT PROJECT? OK. SO I DID WANT TO RECOGNIZE EVERYONE BY NAME.

AND FOR WHAT THEY COMPETED IN.

OK. GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

MADAM PRESIDENT, ALL OF YOUR BOARD MEMBERS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING US HERE.

THESE ARE SOME OF MY AMAZING STUDENTS WITH THE BILL R.

JOHNSON CTE CENTER COSMETOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

WHEN I SAY THESE LADIES ARE AMAZING, WHEN I PUT THE TASK TO THEM TO COME AND COMPETE, THEY ACTUALLY STEPPED UP AND SHOWED OUT.

OUR FIRST STUDENT IS ACTUALLY A SOPHOMORE, MS. [INAUDIBLE] MAYFIELD, AND SHE CREATED THIS BEAUTIFUL BRAIDED GODDESS.

YOU GUYS, IT WAS AMAZING.

SHE TOLD ME HER IDEAS.

I TOLD HER MY IDEA.

SHE MADE IT HAPPEN AND LOOKS AMAZING, AND SHE DID PLACE GOING TO STATE.

WE ALSO HAVE MS. DENISE CAMPBELL, SHE IS A SENIOR.

SHE RECREATED THE PROUD FAMILY ON NAILS.

SHE DID WHAT'S CALLED FLAT NAIL ART.

AND ONCE YOU GUYS GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THEM, YOU WILL SEE IT'S ACTUALLY MEMBERS FROM THE PROUD FAMILY ON NAILS.

OK. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE HAVE MS. [INAUDIBLE] EVANS, WHO CREATED A BEAUTIFUL FANTASY UPDO WITH BRAIDS.

THE FLOWERS, WE USUALLY TRY TO REFRESH THEM, BUT WE DIDN'T GET TO REFRESH THEM TONIGHT.

AND SHE'S A SENIOR AS WELL.

SO THESE LADIES ACTUALLY PUT TOGETHER A PORTFOLIO, A RESUME.

IT'S A LOT MORE TO SKILLS THAN JUST CREATING THE LOOK.

THEY WANT TO SEE THAT, YOU KNOW, THE BUSINESS SIDE, THAT YOU'RE ABLE TO ACTUALLY INTERVIEW, THAT YOU'RE ABLE ACTUALLY TO PRESENT, AND THESE LADIES STEPPED UP AND DID MORE THAN THAT, SO.

WE'RE MISSING A FEW TONIGHT, BUT THEY ARE HERE IN SPIRIT AND WE WANT TO THANK YOU GUYS FOR HAVING US HERE.

[APPLAUSE].

MIC]

[01:05:05]

. [APPLAUSE] WELL, EVERYONE'S LEAVING SO QUICKLY, BUT I DO WANT TO RECOGNIZE DR.

WARFIELD AND HER TEAM, AS WELL AS THE STUDENTS FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK, AND WE HAVE THIS AMAZING AWARD WINNING FACILITY, BUT WE ALSO HAVE AWARD WINNING PROGRAMS AND STAFF WORKING INSIDE THAT BUILDING.

SO KUDOS TO YOU.

AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO THEIR SUCCESS AND THE OUTCOMES FROM THEIR STATE COMPETITION AND ALL THE GREAT THINGS COMING OUT OF THE CTE CENTER.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND ALL OF Y'ALLS SERVICE.

I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY ARE, BUT CULINARY WAS HERE AND THEY JUST GOT OUT [APPLAUSE].

AS THEY SHOULD, TONIGHT'S MEAL WAS FANTASTIC.

ALL RIGHT. [APPLAUSE] COME ON IN.

THANK YOU.

AND THESE ARE THE ONES THAT WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING DINNER TONIGHT, AS WELL AS THERE'S A FEW MORE THAT WERE ON CAMPUS AS WELL, BUT THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL BEING HERE AND--. THIS IS A LOT FOR THEM SO [INAUDIBLE] TO COME AFTER SCHOOL, AND SO THE DEDICATION THAT NOT JUST THE TEACHERS, BUT ALSO TO THE STUDENTS.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I LOVE YOU. [APPLAUSE]. [INAUDIBLE] AND IF EVERYONE BRIEFLY COULD STOP REAL QUICK, AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE RIGHT OVER HERE TO OUR LEFT, WELL TO MY LEFT HERE, RIGHT, WE HAVE A TEACHER OF THE YEAR RIGHT HERE.

[APPLAUSE] THAT'S RIGHT.

CHEF, GREAT JOB.

I KNOW #CROWLEYPRIDEUNIFIED, #AWINNINGTRADITION.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT NEXT YEAR IS GOING TO BE, BUT Y'ALL ARE KILLING IT.

ALL RIGHT, YOU GUYS. THIS BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM--.

MR. HANDY, WHO IS OUR FIRST SPEAKER TONIGHT? OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS DIANA M.

ACOSTA.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD, I'M DIANA ACOSTA, 528 SOUTH HEIGHTS DRIVE.

THE REASON I CAME IN TODAY IS THAT MY HEART HAD COMPELLED ME TO COME THIS EVENING TO THANK MS. DAVIS FOR THE PHONE CALL THAT YOU MADE TO ME THAT OTHER DAY ABOUT MY GRANDSON.

IT TOUCHED ME VERY MUCH, AND I FELT LIKE I NEEDED TO COME HERE AND THANK YOU IN PERSON.

IT WAS VERY KIND, VERY LOVELY, AND IT STOOD OUT IN MY MIND AND I SAID, THE NEXT MEETING, I

[01:10:02]

NEED TO COME DOWN HERE AND LET HER KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THAT WAS TO ME AS WELL.

AND IT ALSO HELPED ME MAKE A DECISION TO RUN ALSO FOR THE BOARD, FOR OUR COMMUNITY BECAUSE IT REALLY INSPIRED ME BY YOUR CONDUCT.

IT CALMED ME DOWN AS WELL BECAUSE I'M GLAD THAT HIS DOCTOR TURNED IN THE PAPERWORK AND EVERYTHING FOR HIM, SO I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THAT.

ANOTHER THING THAT WAS CONCERNING TO ME WITH THAT WHOLE THING THAT STAYED IN THERE, HE CAME AND TOLD ME THAT FOLLOWING DAY WHEN I HAD TOLD HIM THAT YOU HAD CALLED, HE WANTED ME TO TELL YOU PERSONALLY, HE GOES, IF YOU SEE HER GRANDMA, YOU GO AND YOU TELL HER THANK YOU FOR SAYING ALL THOSE WONDERFUL THINGS TO ME.

AND I TOLD HER WHEN I GET TO SEE HER, I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT I PASS THAT INFORMATION ON TO HER. SO I WANTED JUST TO THANK YOU MS. DAVIS FOR THAT WONDERFUL PHONE CALL.

THANK YOU.

OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS JOY JACKSON LOFTON.

HI, EVERYBODY, I'M JOY JACKSON LOFTON.

MY ADDRESS IS 2340 CAP ROCK LANE.

IT IS A PRIVILEGE, AN HONOR AND JUST A BLESSING TO STAND BEFORE YOU ALL.

LIKE MS. ACOSTA, AGAIN, I'M RUNNING FOR THE BOARD AS WELL, PLACE SEVEN, BUT I'M HERE TO SAY THAT I WAS AT A MEETING WHERE I GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THE GIFT THAT GOD HAS GIVEN ME. IT'S NOT ABOUT RELIGION, IT'S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE STUDENTS AT CMS. WHILE THERE, I HEARD A 21ST CENTURY SCHOLAR TALK ABOUT HOW HE WAS ENCOURAGED BY HIS GRANDMOTHER, HOW SHE TOOK HIM ON THE BACK PORCH, SHOWED HIM THE BLACKBIRDS AND SAID THAT YOUR HATERS MAY LOOK LIKE THAT, BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS [CLAP] AND THE BIRDS WILL SCATTER. KEEP ON GOING.

KEEP ON MOVING.

KEEP ON TRYING AND MAKE IT HAPPEN.

YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO AND BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE.

I NEVER THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BE GETTING ENCOURAGED BY SUCH AN AWESOME PERSON.

YOU ALL SAID DON'T SAY THEIR NAME, BUT ALL I KNOW IS HE KNOWS WHO HE IS.

I WANT TO BE ON THE BOARD, WORKING WITH HIM AND RUNNING WITH HIM BECAUSE HE'S MOTIVATED.

HE'S NOT JUST THERE IN A POSITION OF MONEY.

HE'S IN THERE A POSITION OF LIFE.

HE ENCOURAGED THOSE KIDS, AMAZINGLY.

I THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

I'M MOTIVATED TO RUN AND I THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. OK, THIS CONCLUDES OUR PUBLIC FORUM FOR TONIGHT. WE ARE NOW AT OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEMS.

[9.0 Future Action Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 9.1, EXTERNAL AUDITORS REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS RFP, DR.

MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE MS. ADRIAN PREPARED TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

MS. ADRIAN? THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND, DR.

HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

TONIGHT, I'M JUST GOING TO TAKE A QUICK MINUTE AND LET YOU KNOW THAT WE ARE DOING AN RFQ FOR OUR AUDITORS, OUR EXTERNAL AUDITORS.

AS YOU'RE AWARE, EVERY YEAR WE HAVE TO PUT TOGETHER OUR FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, HAVE THEM AUDITED AND THEN SUBMIT THEM TO TEA.

SO WE HAVE AN RFQ THAT HAS BEEN OUT THERE IN THE WORLD.

WE HAD TWO RESPONSES AND SO WE'RE GOING TO EVALUATE THOSE RESPONSES, AND AT THE MEETING AT THE END OF THE MONTH, WE'LL BRING A RECOMMENDATION BACK TO YOU AT THAT TIME.

IT WAS WEAVER AND WHITLEY PENN.

ALL RIGHT. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MS. ADRIAN. AGENDA ITEM 9.2, SET DATES TO CANVASS BALLOTS FOR MAY 7, 2022 SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES ELECTION.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, THIS NEXT ITEM WILL BE PRESENTED BY MS. CATHY MONTALVO.

MS. MONTALVO? GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, ESTEEMED BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DR.

MCFARLAND. MY NAME IS CATHY MONTALVO, I'M THE SECRETARY TO THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. TONIGHT, WE ARE BRINGING SET DATE TO CANVASS BALLOTS FOR THE MAY 7 SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION.

THIS ACTION IS TIED WITH DISTRICT GOAL NUMBER TWO, ENGAGE COMMUNITY.

TRUSTEES, AS YOU KNOW, CISD WILL BE CONDUCTING A SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, MAY 7TH.

THIS ITEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH A TASK THAT'S ASSOCIATED TO THAT ELECTION FOLLOWING THE RESULTS OF THAT ELECTION PER BBB LEGAL AND ELECTION CODE 67.003, THE BOARD MUST MEET TO CANVASS ELECTION RETURNS NO LATER THAN THE 11TH DAY AFTER THE ELECTION AND NOT EARLIER

[01:15:03]

THAN THE 3RD DAY AFTER.

SORRY. TWO MEMBERS OF THE BOARD CONSTITUTE A QUORUM FOR THE PURPOSE OF CANVASSING ELECTIONS.

THIS YEAR, THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE RECOMMENDS THE FIRST DAY TO CANVASS IS MAY 10TH, BETWEEN MAY 10TH AND MAY 18TH.

AGAIN, THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM, IT WILL BE BROUGHT BACK DURING THE MARCH 31ST BOARD MEETING FOR POSSIBLE CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION.

THE DISTRICT RESPECTFULLY PROPOSES TUESDAY, MAY 17TH, FOR THE DATE TO CANVASS THE ELECTIONS. AT THIS TIME, I'LL WELCOME ANY QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE ANY.

MS. MONTALVO, I PROBABLY SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS ALREADY WITH REGARDS TO THE TWO BOARD MEMBERS SELECTED, IS IT JUST VOLUNTARY BASIS? YES, IT'S VOLUNTARY BASIS.

WE DO NEED TWO. OK, THANK YOU.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD FOR MS. MONTALVO? ALL RIGHT.

AGAIN, WE'LL BRING THIS ITEM BACK DURING THE MAY 31ST BOARD MEETING FOR ACTION.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU. AGENDA ITEM 9.3, CONSIDERATION OF CLASSROOM TEACHER PAY AND STEP INCREASE, DR.

MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, AND BOARD MEMBERS WERE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM. THIS ITEM IS RELATIVE TO OR RELATED TO HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT.

WE HAVE DR.

BERRY HERE TO PRESENT THIS ITEM.

DR. BERRY? THANK YOU, DR.

HALL, DR. MCFARLAND, AND ESTEEMED BOARD MEMBERS.

TONIGHT, I'LL BE PROVIDING A BRIEF UPDATE TOWARD THIS ITEM RELATED TO THE DISTRICT'S HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT PLAN.

TONIGHT, WE'D LIKE TO PROVIDE YOU JUST A BRIEF GLIMPSE INTO THE DISTRICT START TO OUR HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS PLAN IS DRIVEN BY THREE KEY COMPONENTS THAT ALLOW US TO LEVERAGE RECRUITING STRATEGY--. DELIBERATE RECRUITING STRATEGIES, SMART RETENTION PLANS AND A STRATEGIC COMPENSATION PLAN.

AS YOU SEE LISTED HERE, WE'VE RECENTLY BEGAN EXPLORING EACH OF THESE AREAS WITH OUR CENTRAL OFFICE TEAMS, AS WELL AS FEEDBACK FROM CAMPUS ADMINISTRATORS IN ORDER TO FINALIZE A MORE DETAILED PLAN IN EACH OF THESE AREAS, WHICH WE HOPE AND PLAN TO BE ABLE TO SHARE WITH YOU IN FUTURE AND UPCOMING BOARD MEETINGS.

HOWEVER, TONIGHT WE WILL SPECIFICALLY FOCUS ON OUR START TO THE STRATEGIC COMPENSATION STRATEGIES WHICH WILL SUPPORT OUR DISTRICT EMPLOYEES.

THIS FOUR PART PLAN BEGINS WITH THE USE OF BENCHMARKING TO EVALUATE HOW WE COMPARE IN A VARIETY OF AREAS WITH OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE DFW METROPLEX.

SPECIFICALLY EXAMINING OUR OWN TARRANT COUNTY COMPARISON GROUPS.

WITH THE GOAL OF BEING THE TOP IN TARRANT COUNTY, WE'LL CONTINUE TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS RELATED TO BOTH COMPENSATION AS WELL AS NON-SALARY BENEFITS, INCLUDING HEALTH CARE, CHILD CARE, ET CETERA, WHICH YOU WILL SEE THROUGHOUT THE COMPREHENSIVE HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT PLAN AS WE CONTINUE TO ROLL THIS OUT THIS SPRING.

THE NEXT COMPONENT OF THIS PLAN IS TO INCENTIVIZE THE CLASSROOM TEACHER.

THIS FOR-- OH SORRY.

THIS COMPONENT OF THE PLAN IS SET TO REALLY MOTIVATE AND INCENTIVIZE THE CLASSROOM-- THE TEACHERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN STAYING IN THE CLASSROOM WHILE ALSO BENEFITING MONETARILY . FOR EXAMPLE, BY EXPANDING THESE CLASSROOM OPPORTUNITIES WITH ADDITIONAL STIPEND PACKAGES, WE HOPE TO CREATE COMPENSATION INCENTIVES THAT WILL ALLOW HIGH PERFORMING TEACHERS WHO WANT TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSROOM BUT DESIRE TO INCREASE THEIR SALARY A WAY TO INCREASE PAY WHILE CONTINUING TO DIRECTLY SERVE THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM.

BOARD WILL ALSO BE ENHANCING AND CREATING MORE PATHWAYS FOR BOTH COMPENSATION AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT. THIS WILL LOOK LIKE EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS TO HAVE A CLEAR PATH TO CAREER ADVANCEMENT THROUGH AREAS SUCH AS OUR CURRENT GROW YOUR OWN COHORTS, WHICH CURRENTLY PROVIDE EMPLOYEES WITH THE PATHWAY FOR PARAPROFESSIONAL TO TEACHING CERTIFICATIONS OR TEACHING CERTIFICATIONS TO ADMINISTRATIVE CERTIFICATIONS AND A HOST OF OTHER CERTIFICATES IN OTHER AREAS OF THE DISTRICT.

AS YOU HEARD EARLIER, WITH OUR WONDERFUL GRANTS, IN MANY CASES WE'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO OUR EMPLOYEES ALL FREE OF CHARGE, AND SO WE CURRENTLY HAVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH ENTITIES SUCH AS TARLETON ISD--.

OR, SORRY. TARLETON UNIVERSITY, AS WELL AS TEXAS A&M COMMERCE AND TEXAS TEACHER TO EXPLORE THAT. AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO PARTNERING WITH A GREAT DEAL OF OTHER ENTITIES IN ORDER TO EXPAND THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR MORE OF OUR CISD EMPLOYEES.

[01:20:01]

FINALLY, AS YOU SEE, THAT LAST AREA IS TO INCENTIVIZE HIGH NEEDS INNOVATIVE CAMPUSES SUCH AS YOU'VE SEEN IN THE SUCCESSES OF BOTH OUR ACE AND ADSY CAMPUSES, AND WE JUST HOPE TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO LEVERAGE THOSE COMPENSATION STRATEGIES IN OTHER AREAS AS WE LOOK TO OPEN AND EXPAND FURTHER INNOVATIVE AND HIGH NEED CAMPUSES, INCLUDING OUR MONTESSORIS AND SO ON.

AND SO BOARD, THE LAST ITEM FOR TONIGHT'S UPDATE IS FOR THE FUTURE ACTION RELATED TO TEACHER RAISES.

AS MENTIONED IN BENCHMARKING, WE'RE CURRENTLY EXAMINING THE 49 DISTRICTS REPRESENTED IN UEA'S METROPLEX SALARY COMPARISON, WHERE WE CURRENTLY ARE RANKED NUMBER 13 ON THIS CHART.

AS WE CONTINUE OUR JOURNEY TO BE THE TOP IN TARRANT COUNTY, IT'S APPARENT THAT THIS IS AN AREA OF OPPORTUNITY FOR THE DISTRICT THAT WILL NOT ONLY SUPPORT THE NEED TO INCENTIVIZE AND ATTRACT OUR BRAND NEW TEACHERS TO THE DISTRICT THAT WANT TO CALL CROWLEY HOME, BUT ALSO VALUES AND RECOGNIZES THAT MIDDLE GROUP, OUR 5 YEAR, 10 YEAR, 15 AND 20 YEAR TEACHERS IN THEIR CASES AS WELL.

AND SO IN OUR EFFORTS TOWARD DELIBERATE RECRUITMENT, WE'RE GEARING UP FOR THIS VERY COMPETITIVE SEASON AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO PLACE IN FRONT OF OUR EMPLOYEES AND POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES AS WELL.

THIS RAISE WOULD BE ONE OF A CRITICAL MEANS TO SHOWCASE THE MANY, MANY, MANY REASONS THAT A EMPLOYEE WOULD WANT TO CALL CROWLEY HOME.

APPROVING A SALARY INCREASE LATER THIS MONTH, WHICH WILL BE OUR REQUEST, WILL ALLOW US THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO.

AS YOU SEE INDICATED HERE, WITH THE RAISE ACROSS THE BOARD FOR OUR TEACHERS, THIS WOULD INCLUDE ALSO STRATEGIC STEP ADJUSTMENTS ALONG THE WAY WOULD ALLOW EACH EMPLOYEE TO-- OR EACH TEACHER. FORGIVE ME.

EACH TEACHER TO RECEIVE AT A MINIMUM OF 3.2 OR HIGHER INCREASE IN THEIR ALARY AS A RAISE, AND THAT WOULD ALSO PLACE US AS A DISTRICT WITH A STARTING SALARY OF--.

THAT WE'RE STARTING RIGHT NOW AT $57,090.

THAT WOULD MOVE US UP TO A STARTING SALARY FOR TEACHERS OF $60,010, PLACING US IN THE NUMBER ONE SLOT.

GOING INTO THIS STRATEGIC HIRING SEASON.

DR. BERRY, CAN YOU TELL US WHAT SLOT WOULD WE BE IN WITH $60,010? WE WILL BE IN THE NUMBER ONE TOP IN TARRANT COUNTY POSITION GOING INTO A VERY COMPETITIVE HIRING SEASON.

IN ADDITION, AS YOU NOTICE HERE, THE AVERAGE TEACHER SALARY, WE ARE CURRENTLY AT $63,169, AND WITH THIS INCREASE FOR TEACHERS, IT WOULD PLACE US AT AN AVERAGE SALARY FOR OUR TEACHERS AT $65,195, AGAIN, NOTING THAT THIS WILL INCLUDE A STEP ADJUSTMENT AT ALL STEPS FOR OUR STAFF WITH AN INTENTIONAL FOCUS ON YEAR 5, 10, 15 AND 20 STAFF.

AND SO THE VERY LAST SLIDE, I BELIEVE THIS WILL COME AT A COST OF $3.7 MILLION DOLLARS TO THE BUDGET IN SUPPORT OF THIS STRATEGY.

THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION FOR THIS PART, AND I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY IMMEDIATE QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE AT THIS TIME.

DO [INAUDIBLE]? OK.

I HAVE A QUESTION. BUT GO AHEAD, MS. DAVIS. [LAUGHTER] I'LL WAIT.

GO FOR. I CAN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT SALARY FOR STARTING TEACHERS, EVEN NOW, AT $57,090 DOLLARS.

THE FIRST YEAR I TAUGHT SCHOOL, I MADE $7,300.

[LAUGHTER]. MS. DAVIS AND YOU WERE A SEASONED BLESSING FOR US ALL.

I MADE HALF OF THAT MY FIRST YEAR.

[LAUGHTER] SO.

OK, SO LET'S CELEBRATE.

I THINK THAT'S AMAZINGLY AWESOME.

I WOULD SAY THAT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO-- OH, STEVEN POOL LAST SEMESTER OR MAYBE EARLY THIS SEMESTER.

MY SPACE TIME WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AFTER COVID.

TWO WEEKS, TWO DAYS, TWO MONTHS, I DON'T KNOW.

BUT WE DID TALK ABOUT IT AND I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT WE HAD FALLEN TO NUMBER 13.

SO I AM HAPPY TO KNOW THAT NOT ONLY ARE WE BACK INTO THE TOP TEN THAT WE WILL BE IN THE NUMBER ONE SLOT, SO LET'S CELEBRATE THAT WITH THIS, SHOULD THIS MEASURE PASS.

THIS IS A FUTURE MY OTHER QUESTION, AND I DON'T WANT TO STEAL ANYBODY'S HAPPINESS, OUR PARAS.

[01:25:03]

SO, YOU KNOW, I SERVE IN A NEIGHBORING DISTRICT, AND I SEE OUR PARAS AS CANDIDATES ALL THE TIME AND THEY ARE COMING TO NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS BECAUSE THEY ARE SEEKING MORE COMPENSATION FOR THE JOBS THAT THEY DO, AND AS AN ADMINISTRATOR IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, THEY ARE ALSO THE BACKBONE OF THE WORK THAT WE DO AND THAT WE DELIVER HERE AT CENTRAL AND ALSO ON THE CAMPUS AND IN OUR VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS. IS THERE ANY UPDATES WITH REGARDS TO WHAT WE ARE CONSIDERING FOR OUR PARAS? DR. HALL, I COULD NOT HAVE SAID THAT BETTER MYSELF, SO I THAT'S DEFINITELY A GROUP THAT WE HEAR FROM FREQUENTLY, A GROUP THAT WE WORK WITH THE CAMPUS PRINCIPALS AS WELL FREQUENTLY.

SO THE PURPOSE OF TONIGHT'S UPDATE AND THE FOCUS ON THE TEACHERS IS PREPARATION FOR OUR APRIL 9TH JOB FAIR AND BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THOSE THINGS EARLY, KNOWING THAT OUR NEXT STEP AND OUR GREAT INTENTION IS TO FOCUS ON THAT NEXT GROUP, WHICH WE WILL ALSO SERVE IN A JOB FAIR SPECIFICALLY FOR THEM.

SO THEY ARE DEFINITELY ON THE RADAR, AND DEFINITELY A KEY COMPONENT AS CRITICAL AS OUR TEACHERS THAT ARE SERVING IN THE CLASSROOM CURRENTLY.

AND SO OUR INITIAL REQUEST WAS TO ADDRESS THE TEACHERS FOR A JOB FAIR IN UPCOMING RECRUITING. DR.

MAYFIELD? I WAS JUST GOING TO ASK WHEN THE DATE IS FOR THE JOB FAIR AGAIN? YES, AND IT IS, I MUST GIVE THIS SHOUT OUT ALSO, BECAUSE IT'S NOT JUST A JOB FAIR, THIS IS OUR JOURNEY FAIR.

IT WILL BE ON APRIL 9TH.

WE WILL BE A PART OF THE JOURNEY THAT DAY.

WE WILL ALSO BE STANDING ALONGSIDE OUR WONDERFUL PRE-K ROUNDUP AS WELL AS OUR, I THINK THEY'RE HERE ALSO, OUR STEM FAIR SHOWCASE.

SO WE'RE HOPING TO HAVE JUST A GREAT DAY OF CROWLEY ISD WELCOMING THE COMMUNITY AND ALL OTHERS TO COME ON THE JOURNEY WITH US.

LOVE THE JOURNEY FAIR.

THANK YOU. YES.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR DR.

BERRY? DR.

MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, WE ARE, AS DR.

BERRY MENTIONED, WHAT WE WILL DO IS WE WILL BRING RECOMMENDATION FOR FUTURE ACTION AT THE MARCH BOARD MEETING TO ADDRESS PARAS AND THEN AFTER THAT WE WILL ADDRESS ADMINISTRATORS.

WE WERE JUST TRYING TO STAGE IT LIKE THAT, BUT WE DO ANTICIPATE ADDRESSING ALL THREE GROUPS. WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I APOLOGIZE FOR JUMPING AHEAD.

SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, DR.

BERRY. I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

YES, TRUSTEE. AS WE LOOK AT SALARY INCREASES, ARE WE ALSO GOING TO LOOK AT HEALTH CARE CONTRIBUTION INCREASES AS WELL? BECAUSE UEA DID PUBLISH THAT AND WE ARE AT NUMBER 43 IN TERMS OF CONTRIBUTIONS.

THAT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT WE CAN REVIEW AND KIND OF LOOK AT AND SEE EXACTLY WHAT BUDGET IMPACT THAT WILL HAVE.

WE'LL REVIEW THAT BEFORE WE BRING A FINAL RECOMMENDATION.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

THAT'S A GREAT POINT. ALL RIGHT.

THIS NOW BRINGS US TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS.

[10.0 Consent Agenda]

ARE THERE ANY ITEMS THE TRUSTEES WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS OR ANY ITEMS THEY WOULD LIKE EXCLUDED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA? I WOULD MOVE THAT--.

AS PRESENTED. SORRY.

TRUSTEE RAY, DID YOU MAKE A MOTION? COULD YOU REPEAT THAT FOR ME I DIDN'T HEAR YOU? YEAH, I WOULD MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE A TRUSTEE--.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE RAY FOR APPROVAL.

DO WE HAVE A SECOND? SECOND.

WE HAVE A SECOND FROM TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

WE ARE NOW AT OUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS.

[11.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 11.1, THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL CALENDAR, DR.

MAYFIELD--.

DR. MCFARLAND, SORRY.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, IT'S A TIME FOR US TO BEGIN TO LOOK AT SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR 2022-2023 AND WE HAVE MR. HANDY HERE TO PRESENT THIS ITEM.

MR. HANDY? THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT HALL, ESTEEMED BOARD MEMBERS.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, WE'RE ALMOST AT SPRING BREAK AND ALL THAT MEANS IS THAT WE'RE GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR.

SO TONIGHT I PRESENT TO YOU A DRAFT OF THE PROPOSED 22-23 SCHOOL CALENDAR AS A CONSIDERATION OF POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.

THIS ITEM ALIGNS WITH GOAL ONE, THRIVING STUDENTS, ALONG WITH GOAL THREE, EMPOWERED STAFF. THIS CALENDAR DRAFT HAS BEEN DESIGNED WITH INPUT FROM OUR EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM, DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS, CAMPUS PRINCIPALS, AS WELL AS OUR DISTRICT WIDE

[01:30:01]

EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL, WHICH IS MADE UP OF TEACHERS, PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. WE ALSO MADE A CONCERTED EFFORT TO ALIGN OUR MAJOR BREAKS WITH NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS, KNOWING THAT WE HAVE STAFF MEMBERS THAT LIVE OUTSIDE OF OUR BOUNDARIES THAT MAY HAVE STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOLS IN OTHER DISTRICTS.

AND ANOTHER GOAL WE HAD WITH THIS CALENDAR IS TO STICK WITH A SIMILAR TIME FRAME, AS WE DID FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE, WE'RE PROPOSING TO SET THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IN THE SECOND WEEK OF AUGUST ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 11TH, AND THIS WOULD ALLOW US TO END THE SCHOOL YEAR BEFORE THE MEMORIAL HOLIDAY ON MAY 25TH.

WE'VE ALSO LISTENED TO PARENTS CONCERNS REGARDING EARLY RELEASE DAYS, AND THEY'VE BEEN ADDRESSED WITH THIS PROPOSED CALENDAR.

WE'VE REMOVED ALL EARLY RELEASE DAYS EXCEPT FOR THE ONES NEEDED AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER. SEE, OUR HIGH SCHOOLS NEED TWO EARLY RELEASE DATES FOR FINALS AT THE END OF EACH SEMESTER, AND OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS USE A EARLY RELEASE DAY AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER TO ALLOW TIME FOR TEACHERS TO SUBMIT GRADES BEFORE THEY LEAVE FOR BREAK.

WE'VE TURNED ALL OTHER EARLY RELEASE DATES INTO FULL DAYS TO MAKE IT EASIER ON PARENTS WITH CHILD CARE NEEDS AND FOR TRANSPORTATION.

SOMETHING NEW THAT WE'VE ADDED FOR TEACHERS AND STAFF ARE LONG RANGE PLANNING DAYS.

THERE ARE TWO IN EACH SEMESTER, TOTALING FOUR FROM THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR, AND THESE DAYS GIVE TEACHERS TIME TO WORK TOGETHER AND PLAN THE NEXT FOUR TO SIX WEEKS OF INSTRUCTION.

THE GOAL IS THAT BY BLOCKING OFF TIME FOR THEM TO DO THAT, IT MAKES THE DAY IN AND DAY OUT WORK OF LESSON PLANNING EASIER AND MORE PRODUCTIVE.

YOU CAN SEE THE LONG RANGE PLANNING DAYS THAT WE HAVE PROPOSED IN THE RED SQUARES ON AUGUST 9TH, OCTOBER 7TH, JANUARY 3RD AND MARCH 20TH, SO THEY'RE SPREAD OUT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO AGAIN GIVE TEACHERS TIME TO PLAN THEIR LESSONS.

AS A REMINDER OF THE STATE REQUIREMENTS FOR SETTING SCHOOL CALENDARS IS NOW BASED ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF MINUTES AND NOT THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS.

THE STATE REQUIREMENT IS 75,600 MINUTES AND THE PROPOSED CALENDAR THAT WE HAVE TONIGHT MORE THAN EXCEEDS THAT MARK.

SINCE WE HAVE DIFFERENT LINKS TO THE SCHOOL DAY IN ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL AS WELL AS HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE DIFFERENT MINUTE NUMBERS, BUT YOU'LL SEE WE HAVE 79,935 MINUTES SET FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL, AS WELL AS 77,825 MINUTES FOR THE HIGH SCHOOLS.

AND THIS CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION ON THE 22-23 CALENDAR DRAFT, AND I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE. THANK YOU, MR. HANDY. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? DO YOU? HOW MANY DAYS, SCHOOL DAYS? YES, SIR. SO IN TOTAL, THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE 173 SCHOOL DAYS.

TEACHERS ARE STILL ON A 187 CONTRACT, AND SO THAT MEANS OUR TEACHERS WILL ACTUALLY HAVE 14 DAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO HELP PREPARE THEIR CLASSROOM, PLAN LESSONS, AND ATTEND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, BUT THE STUDENTS WILL BE IN THE BUILDING FOR 173 SCHOOL DAYS.

I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

IS IT OK? CAN YOU CLARIFY WHEN YOU SAID YOU REMOVE THE HALF DAYS? DID YOU SAY THAT THAT EQUATED TO ENDING THE SCHOOL YEAR BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY OR THAT WAS ALREADY IN PLAY AND YOU MADE OTHER ADJUSTMENTS? THAT WAS ALREADY IN PLAY, WE JUST CONVERTED THOSE EARLY RELEASE DAYS TO FULL DAYS, BUT WE WERE ALREADY WITH THIS CALENDAR GOING TO END BEFORE THE MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY.

OK, THANK YOU.

SO HOW MANY--? DID WE ADD SOME INSTRUCTIONAL TIME THERE, I MEAN, THEORETICALLY-- I GUESS I JUST, YOU KNOW, I SAY IT EVERY YEAR AND ESPECIALLY NOW, I MEAN, WITH THE COVID LOSS, I JUST FEEL LIKE, I MEAN, THEY DID IT TO MINUTES TO GIVE MORE FLEXIBILITY, BUT TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE ALL DROPPED THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL DAYS, YEAR AFTER YEAR.

AND I GET THAT THERE'S VALUE IN HAVING ADDITIONAL PLANNING TIME AND THOSE KIND OF THINGS BUILT IN, BUT IT JUST CONCERNS ME THAT WE KEEP LOSING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME.

SO I GUESS AT LEAST DID WE PICK UP SOME INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, YOU KNOW, BY EXTENDING THOSE OR IS THAT [INAUDIBLE]? SO I'M NOT SURE WHAT OUR MINUTES COUNT WAS AT THE TIME LAST YEAR, BUT I KNOW THIS IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME CALENDAR WE HAD FOR THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN THE NUMBER OF DAYS WE ARE ONE DAY SHORTER, AND THAT'S BECAUSE WE HAD TO PUT A HOLIDAY IN FOR SEPTEMBER 23RD AGAIN TO SET UP THOSE LONG RANGE PLANNING DAYS FOR STAFF. TRUSTEE RAY WOULD NOT TURNING THE EARLY RELEASE DAYS INTO FULL DAYS ADD MINUTES TO THE CALENDAR THAT THEY OTHERWISE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD? YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I WAS ASKING.

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T LIKE OFFSET-- YEAH.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION.

YES, MA'AM. THE LONG RANGE PLANNING THAT'S BUILT IN NOW IS THAT GRADE LEVEL OR IS THAT GOING TO INCLUDE VERTICAL ALIGNMENT AS WELL? SO REALLY, THAT CAN INCLUDE A COMBINATION OF THOSE.

THE CAMPUSES, THAT'S ONE THING THEY ASKED FOR, THE OPPORTUNITY FOR BOTH TEACHERS TO GET TOGETHER WITHIN THE GRADE LEVEL, BUT ALSO WITHIN SUBJECT VERTICALLY SO IT CAN BE DONE

[01:35:04]

EITHER WAY. THAT LONG RANGE PLANNING DAY, THOUGH, IS SET ASIDE AND WE'LL WORK WITH THE CAMPUSES ON THAT. SO I HAVE A QUESTION, IT'S A CALENDAR QUESTION, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S THIS CALENDAR QUESTION, IT'S A PAYROLL CALENDAR QUESTION.

I LOVE THE EMAILS AND COMMENTS THAT I GET FROM OUR CROWLEY COMMUNITY, AND THIS ONE KIND OF RESONATED WITH ME AS AN EDUCATOR.

THE QUESTION WAS CAN WE GET PAID BEFORE SPRING BREAK? NOW, I KNOW THAT THAT'S KIND OF OFF THE SUBJECT, BUT ON THE SUBJECT, AND IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE AM I ALONE IN THAT? DID ANYONE DID THAT LIKE THAT? I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS AN INTERESTING QUESTION AND I WAS LIKE, I THOUGHT THAT MYSELF AS AN EDUCATOR AND I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 20 YEARS.

BUT IF I'M ALONE, AND THAT WAS THAT ONE PERSON'S QUESTION AND WE ONLY SHARE THAT TOGETHER, THEN OK, WE CAN JUST DISMISS IT AND MOVE ON.

[LAUGHTER] THAT'S NOT A COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING QUESTION.

[LAUGHTER]. [INAUDIBLE] FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR? SO FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR? YEAH. AND NOT TOMORROW.

LET US LOOK INTO THAT AND THEN BE ABLE TO BRING YOUR ANSWER LATER.

WE'LL CHECK INTO THAT.

ALL RIGHT. I DID MY PART IN THE CAMERA, WHOEVER YOU ARE.

ALL RIGHT, ARE THERE ANY OTHER--? SEE IT'S EVERYONE'S BLESSING.

ANYONE, ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD OR ANY COMMENTS? OK. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU, MR. HANDY. SO THIS IS A CONSIDERATION OR POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM? IS THERE A MOTION OR ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL CALENDAR AS PRESENTED.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR A MOTION TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND.

HAVE A SECOND FROM DR. MAYFIELD.

MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

WE ARE NOW ON AGENDA ITEM 11.2, THE 2022-2023 ADDITIONAL DAYS SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR, DR.

MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, AND BOARD MEMBERS, DR.

WILLIAMS IS HERE PREPARED TO REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

DR. WILLIAMS? GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED BOARD MEMBERS, DR.

MCFARLAND. TONIGHT I'M HERE TO PRESENT THE ADDITIONAL DAY SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR FOR THE 22-23 ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS ALIGNS WITH BOARD GOALS ONE, THRIVING STUDENTS, GOAL THREE, EMPOWERED STAFF.

BEFORE WE DIVE INTO THE DETAILS OF THE ADSY CALENDAR, I WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT THE BENEFITS OF THE ADDITIONAL DAY SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR.

THE ADDITIONAL DAYS ALLOWS TEACHERS TO HAVE ADDITIONAL TIME TO PLAN, BUILD ON THEIR CONTENT KNOWLEDGE, AS WELL AS ALLOW STUDENTS TIME TO ACCELERATE INSTRUCTION AS WELL AS PROVIDING THEM WITH ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

OVERALL, THESE ADDITIONAL DAYS ALLOW OUR STUDENTS, OUR CAMPUSES TO FOCUS ON STRENGTHENING THE WHOLE CHILD AND THE SUPPORTS.

AGAIN, I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THESE DETAILS, IN THE ADSY CALENDAR.

ACCELERATED CALENDAR IS DESIGNED TO OPTIMIZE STUDENT SUCCESS, INCREASE INSTRUCTIONAL MINUTES, ALLOWING STUDENTS MORE TIME ON TASKS, ADDITIONAL PLC TIME TO INCREASE TEACHER'S CAPACITY, BUILDING TIME FOR RELATIONSHIPS AROUND STUDENT INTERESTS, ALIGNING THE RESOURCES AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS 21ST CENTURY AND OUTSIDE SUPPORTS, AS WELL AS ACCELERATING LEARNING TO FOCUS ON BOTH ON LEVEL AND OFF GRADE LEVEL SKILLS MASTERY, STUDENT HOLIDAYS ARE ALIGNED WITH THE TRADITIONAL CALENDAR THAT MR. HANDY JUST PRESENTED TO YOU BEFORE.

ALSO, ALIGNMENT IN REGARDS TO THE STAFF AND THE DISTRICT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE, I'LL GO THROUGH JUST KIND OF THE HIGHLIGHTS AND EXPLAIN WHAT THESE HIGHLIGHTED BLUE DATES ARE.

EMPLOYEES WILL REPORT BACK TO WORK ON JULY 11TH, AND I WANT TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION WHERE YOU SEE THOSE BOX DAYS.

ON JUNE 13TH THOUGH THE 25TH.

WHAT THOSE ARE, ARE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS TO ALLOW LEADERSHIP TEAMS THE OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF PLAN AND PREPARE FOR WHEN THEY RETURN BACK IN JULY ON JULY 11TH FOR THOSE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR TEACHERS WHEN THEY RETURN TO SCHOOL.

ADSY DAYS ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE LIGHT BLUE AND YOU'LL SEE THAT WE FRONT LOADED THAT WITH 19 DAYS WITH THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTING ON AUGUST 11TH.

ONE OF THE THINGS I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I HIGHLIGHT HERE IS ON AUGUST 5TH, THAT IS THE SCHEDULED DATE FOR OUR CONVOCATION, AND WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE OUR CAMPUSES ALL PARTICIPATE IN ADDITIONAL DAYS, HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE WITH OUR OTHER SCHOOLS ON THAT DAY. THAT DAY WILL BE MADE UP ON THAT JANUARY 4TH TO BRING OUR 20 DAYS WITHIN THE FIRST

[01:40:06]

PART OF THE YEAR. IF YOU SCROLL DOWN TO THE BACK END.

WHAT YOU SEE HERE, THE 10 ADDITIONAL DAYS WILL COME AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND THEN WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS ALSO THOSE TWO BAD WEATHER DAYS IN CASE ANY WEATHER HAPPENS ON THE DAYS WE HAVE ADSY, WE'LL NEED TO MAKE THOSE UP.

THIS IS A REQUIREMENT PART OF TEA, JUST A PART OF JUST OUR CALENDAR I SUBMIT TO THEM FOR THE ADDITIONAL DAYS.

IF THERE IS ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR ME AT THIS TIME, THIS CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU, DR. WILLIAMS, ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? TRUSTEE DAVIS? HOW MANY DAYS IS IT FOR TEACHERS, HOW MANY WORK DAYS FOR TEACHERS? 207 DAYS.

CORRECT. TWO HUNDRED--? AND SEVEN. SEVEN. OK.

OR IS IT, I MEAN, IF IT'S 203 INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS, RIGHT? SO WE'RE ADDING.

I MEAN, YEAH--. SO IT'S 217.

14 DAYS. YEAH.

OK. SO, YEAH, WE JUST ADDED 30 DAYS ON THE-- OK, WELL, I MEAN, AND THIS IS, YOU KNOW, I GUESS, THE RESPONSE TO MY [LAUGHTER] WANTING, YOU KNOW, MORE INSTRUCTIONAL TIME.

ONE THING, YOU KNOW, THE ONE THING THAT I--.

AND I'LL BE VERY INTERESTED TO SEE, YOU KNOW, AT THE END OF THIS YEAR HOW WE COMPARE WITH THE, YOU KNOW, THE STUDENTS, THE GROWTH THAT THE STUDENTS HAVE SEEN IN THIS PROGRAM VERSUS, YOU KNOW, STUDENTS IN OTHER, YOU KNOW, OTHER PROGRAMS IN THE DISTRICT.

SO, YOU KNOW, THE--.

BUT ONE THING THAT I HOPE, AS I HOPE, YOU DIDN'T LIST IN THAT, I HOPE LITTLE KIDS ARE GETTING MORE RECESS TIME BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS TOO IS, YOU KNOW, THEY NEED MORE INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, BUT THEY NEED MORE UNSTRUCTURED TIME IN THERE, TOO.

SO I HOPE THERE'S MORE RECESS.

IT'S DEFINITELY [INAUDIBLE]. BUT OK, THAT'S ALL.

SO MR. WILLIAMS, AS COMPARED TO--? WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES WITH REGARDS TO THE CALENDAR THAT WE'VE HAD BEFORE BECAUSE WE'VE HAD THIS TYPE OF PROGRAMING AT OUR CAMPUSES BEFORE, CORRECT? YES. SO THIS IS EVERY YEAR, I JUST HAVE TO GET APPROVAL FOR THIS.

AND SO IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE SAME CALENDAR JUST MAKING SURE THAT JUST LIKE WE DO APPROVAL FOR A REGULAR TRADITIONAL CALENDAR, THIS IS FOR NEXT YEAR'S.

I APPRECIATE IT. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE WERE ANY IMMEDIATE DIFFERENCES.

OK. TRUSTEE DAVIS? YOU MAY HAVE SAID AND I MISSED IT.

CAN YOU SPEAK TO THE ACCELERATED LEARNING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR WITH THOSE BLUE DAYS UP THERE? YES.

SO WHAT STUDENTS AT THAT TIME, WHEN I TALKED ABOUT THE OFF GRADE LEVEL AND AS WELL AS ABOVE GRADE LEVEL SKILLS MASTERY FOR OUR STUDENTS, WHEN STUDENTS COME THROUGH, WE DO, THIS YEAR BECAUSE WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO--.

WE'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TESTED, WE'LL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY WHERE KIDS STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES ARE, AND DURING THAT TIME, WE'LL BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE THE INSTRUCTION TO PROVIDE THOSE STUDENTS WITH REALLY THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.

AND WE BELIEVE THAT WILL BE MET BASED ON THE DATA WE GET BACK FROM OUR TEA IN REGARDS TO OUR STAAR PERFORMANCE.

BUT THIS YEAR, WHAT WE DID WAS REALLY PROVIDE LIKE SOME ASSESSMENTS TO EVALUATE WHERE KIDS WERE, AND THEN WE WORKED INDIVIDUALLY WITH THOSE STUDENTS AND WHERE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO NEED SOME SUPPORT WE WERE ABLE TO ACCELERATE THE INSTRUCTION, PREPARING THEM FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR. AND I BELIEVE THAT BY THE END OF THE YEAR, THE DATA WILL REFLECT THAT THESE ADDITIONAL DATA SUPPORT OUR KIDS THE WAY WE THOUGHT.

FOR STUDENTS THAT MAY NOT NEED THAT THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVANCEMENT DURING THAT TIME. SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THOSE ENRICHMENTS IN THE STEM PLUS AND OPPORTUNITIES, WE DO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL BRAIN BREAKS BUT ALSO TRY TO PROVIDE KIDS WITH OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTEREST BASED ACTIVITIES, AND SO THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO PERFORM ABOVE LEVEL, THEY DO TAKE THEIR SKILLS TO THE ABILITY [INAUDIBLE] APPLICATION WHICH WE HAVE IN STEM PLUS AS WELL. THANK YOU.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR DR.

WILLIAMS? DR.

MCFARLAND? SO I JUST WANTED TO ADD BOARD THAT YOU ALL KNOW CURRENTLY, DAVID WALKER IS AN ADSY CAMPUS AND WE INTEND TO CONTINUE WITH DAVID WALKER IF YOU ALL APPROVED THIS.

WE ALSO ARE EVALUATING--.

WE HAVE CREATED A PROCESS WHERE CAMPUSES CAN APPLY TO BE ADSY CAMPUSES, AND SO WE DO KNOW THAT A MEADOWCREEK, WE BELIEVE, AND POSSIBLY MARY HARRIS MAY BE APPLYING TO BE A MODIFIED ADSY. FOR EXAMPLE, WE COULD DECIDE THAT AT AT MARY HARRIS, FOR EXAMPLE, WE COULD DECIDE TO SAY THE THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS NEED 30 ADDITIONAL DAYS BASED ON SOME INDICATOR THAT WE HAVE.

[01:45:01]

IN THAT CASE, THE THIRD OR FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS AND THE TEACHERS COULD BE ON THIS ADSY CALENDAR AND THE REST OF THE CAMPUS COULD BE ON THE REGULAR CAMPUS.

AT DAVID WALKER, RIGHT NOW, IT'S THE FULL CAMPUS IS ADSY.

WE DO HAVE THE ABILITY WITH THE GRANT TO BE ABLE TO MODIFY THAT, AND SO WE ARE CONSIDERING THAT. AGAIN, WE HAVE NOT MADE ANY ADDITIONAL APPROVALS, BUT WE'LL BRING THOSE TO THE BOARD IF WE GET TO THAT POINT.

I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

YES MA'AM. OK. IT'S REGARDING COMPENSATION AGAIN, SO STAFF THAT WORK AT THESE ADSY AND ACE CAMPUSES, DO THEY RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL STIPEND FOR THE ADDITIONAL DAYS? YES, THEY DO.

YES. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR DR.

WILLIAM? OK.

THANK YOU, DR. WILLIAMS. THANK YOU. THIS ALSO IS A CONSIDERATION OF POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.

I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE ADDITIONAL SCHOOL DAYS CALENDAR AS PRESENTED.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR MOTION TRUSTEE RAY, IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND? WE HAVE A SECOND FROM DR.

MAYFIELD. MOVES TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

WE ARE NOW AT OUR PUBLIC HEARING PORTION OF OUR AGENDA.

[12.0 Public Hearing]

AGENDA ITEM 12.1, PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE 2020-2021 TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT, TAPR REPORT. AT THIS TIME, WE WILL TRANSITION INTO OUR PUBLIC HEARING TO REVIEW THE 2020-2021 TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT.

INDIVIDUALS DESIRING TO SPEAK DURING THIS PUBLIC HEARING WERE REQUIRED TO SIGN UP AT LEAST ONE HOUR BEFORE TONIGHT'S MEETING.

WE WILL START WITH THE PRESENTATION FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION, MR. NICHOLAS KEITH AND COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, FOLLOWED BY PUBLIC COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS THAT WILL BE LIMITED TO ONE MINUTE PER INDIVIDUAL AND MUST PERTAIN TO THE TAPR REPORT.

MR. KEITH, ARE YOU READY TO REPORT? I AM. THANK YOU, SIR.

ALL RIGHT, GOOD EVENING.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT HALL, DR.

MCFARLAND AND BOARD MEMBERS.

SO TONIGHT WE ARE HERE TO CONDUCT OUR ANNUAL PUBLIC HEARING AND REVIEW OF THE 2020-2021 TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT, OR TAPR, AND THIS ITEM ALIGNS WITH GOALS ONE, TWO AND THREE. SO THE TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT PULLS TOGETHER DATA ON THE PERFORMANCE OF EVERY SCHOOL AND EVERY DISTRICT IN TEXAS EVERY YEAR.

THIS DATA IS DISAGGREGATED IN A VARIETY OF WAYS TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE PICTURE OF THE PERFORMANCE OF CAMPUSES AND DISTRICTS.

PRINTED COPIES OF THE TAPR ARE AVAILABLE AT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION AND CAMPUS FRONT OFFICES, AND IT CAN ALSO BE ACCESSED ELECTRONICALLY THROUGH THE DISTRICT AND TEA WEBSITES. THE ANNUAL REPORT HAS FIVE REQUIRED COMPONENTS, TAPR DATA, THE TEAM'S FINANCIAL STANDARDS REPORT, DISTRICT ACCREDITATION STATUS, REPORT OF VIOLENT OR CRIMINAL INCIDENTS, AND INFORMATION FROM THE TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD OR THECB.

SO IF WE TRAVEL BACK TO THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR, THAT WAS THE LAST SCHOOL YEAR THAT DISTRICTS AND CAMPUSES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS RECEIVED RATINGS FROM THE STATE.

IN THAT YEAR, THE DISTRICT RECEIVED AN OVERALL RATING OF AN 83, WHICH IS A B AND WAS A THIRTEEN POINT JUMP FROM THE PREVIOUS SCHOOL YEAR.

NOW, LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR, DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, ALL DISTRICTS AND CAMPUSES ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS RECEIVED A RATING OF NOT RATED, DECLARED STATE OF DISASTER.

SO THE IMPACT OF THIS DECLARATION TO OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION DETERMINATION STATUS IS THAT IT REMAINS THE SAME AS IT WAS IN THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR.

NOW, IN TERMS OF GRADUATION AND COLLEGE READINESS, CROWLEY REPORTS A RATE THAT IS ABOVE THE REGION AND STATE AVERAGE IN ATTENDANCE RATE, FOUR YEAR GRADUATION RATE, COLLEGE READY ANNUAL GRADUATES AND GRADUATES WHO MEET TSI CRITERIA IN BOTH READING AND MATH.

IN ADDITION, STUDENTS RECEIVING CREDITS THROUGH DUAL CREDIT AND ONRAMPS, AS WELL AS STUDENTS COMPLETING ADVANCED COURSES INCREASED FROM THE PRIOR SCHOOL YEAR FOR THESE GRADUATES. THE NEXT TWO SLIDES SHOW STAAR AND END OF COURSE PERFORMANCE DATA FROM THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR, AND THESE PERCENTAGES SHOW A SIMILAR IMPACT ON CROWLEY AS THE REST OF THE STATE FOR DISTRICTS WITH A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS WHO ENGAGED IN REMOTE LEARNING FOR A MAJORITY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

MOVING FORWARD, THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE REQUIRES DISTRICTS TO REPORT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES DURING THEIR FIRST YEAR OF ENROLLMENT IN A TEXAS INSTITUTION OF

[01:50:03]

HIGHER EDUCATION.

SO THE TABLE ON THIS SLIDE SHOWS THE PERFORMANCE OF 2019 GRADUATES, WHICH IS THE MOST RECENT DATA AVAILABLE IN THEIR FIRST YEAR OF HIGHER ED BY GPA.

SO THIS DATA IS AVAILABLE PUBLICLY FOR ALL DISTRICTS IN TEXAS THROUGH THE TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD.

FINALLY, THE PEIMS FINANCIAL STANDARDS REPORT, STANDARD REPORTS FOR 2019-2020 ARE SUMMARIZED HERE ON THESE SLIDES AND ARE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC VIEWING VIA THE TEA WEBSITE.

SO IN CLOSING, I'D LIKE TO REFER THE COMMUNITY BACK TO WHERE THEY CAN ACCESS THE TAPR REPORT AND REVIEW THE WORK OF CROWLEY ISD FOR THEMSELVES.

PRINTED COPIES OF THE TAPR REPORT CAN BE ACCESSED BOTH AT THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING AND CAMPUS FRONT OFFICES, AS WELL AS ELECTRONICALLY THROUGH THE TEA AND DISTRICT WEBSITES, AND I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.

THANK YOU, MR. KEITH. THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? TRUSTEE DAVIS? I HAVE A COMMENT.

YOU KIND OF GLOSSED OVER SLIDE FIVE, BUT I THINK IT'S WORTH NOTING THAT WE OUTPERFORM BOTH THE REGION AND THE STATE IF I'M UNDERSTANDING THIS CORRECTLY.

YES, MA'AM, THAT'S CORRECT. OK, THAT'S WORTH NOTING.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS, ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM MR. KEITH? ALL RIGHT.

MR. HANDY, DID WE HAVE ANYONE SIGN UP IN ADVANCE TO MAKE COMMENTS DURING PUBLIC COMMENT? NO, MA'AM. ALL RIGHT.

AT THIS TIME, OUR PUBLIC HEARING IS ADJOURNED.

WE WILL NOW ADJOURN TO AN EXECUTIVE--.

THE BOARD WILL NOW ADJOURN TO THE EXECUTIVE SESSION PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE

[14.0 Executive Session]
