[2.0 Celebrations / Board Points of Pride]

ARE THERE ANY BOARD MEMBERS THAT WOULD LIKE TO CELEBRATE? OR SHARE THEIR POINTS OF PRIDE OR THINGS TO CELEBRATE THIS EVENING.

ALL RIGHT TRUSTEE DAVIS.

OKAY. AND ACTUALLY, THIS IS A PSA ABOUT REGISTRATION.

SO OUR DEPARTMENT, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF KARA HYATT, HAS WORKED DILIGENTLY TO STREAMLINE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR FAMILIES THIS YEAR WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL MAKE REGISTRATION EASIER.

REGISTER NOW TO SAVE YOUR SPOT AT ONE OF OUR 25 INCREDIBLE CAMPUSES FOR THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTEES I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE? I HAVE ONE. TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

STUDENTS AND STAFF AND FAMILIES FROM DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY RAN IN THE COWTOWN 5K AT THE FORT WORTH BOTANICAL GARDENS.

I THINK THAT WAS LAST WEEKEND, I BELIEVE.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE RACE WENT TOWARDS THE COW PROGRAM, CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES FOR LIFE AND FITNESS TO PROMOTE THE LOVE OF FITNESS AND THE HEARTS OF YOUTH.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR DRAGONS FOR REPRESENTING CROWLEY ISD AT THIS WONDERFUL EVENT.

RIGHT. Y'ALL ARE SO QUIET TONIGHT.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTEES THAT HAVE POINTS OF PRIDE THEY WANT TO SHARE THIS EVENING? I DO. GO AHEAD. I HAVE A COUPLE.

FIRST OF ALL, THE CHISHOLM TRAIL EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS HOSTING A5K RUN ON SATURDAY, APRIL THE 23RD.

AND YOU CAN REGISTER ONLINE.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE RUNNERS.

YOU CAN WALK.

WE'RE ALL WALKERS AT THE CHISHOLM TRAILRUN.ATHLETE360.COM OR YOU CAN ALSO FIND THE INFORMATION ON CROWLEY ISD'S FACEBOOK PAGE.

SO THAT'S NUMBER ONE.

NUMBER TWO IS THAT THE NORTH TEXAS COLOR GUARD ASSOCIATION HOSTED THEIR COMPETITION AND THE NORTH CROWLEY INDOOR DRUMLINE FINISHED FIRST AT THE NCTC CHAMPIONSHIP, WINNING THE GOLD MEDAL AND CONCERT.

A CLASS CHS ALSO BROUGHT HOME MEDALS.

AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MIGHTY EAGLE BAND, DRUMLINE, FIRST PLACE AND DOUBLE A AT THE NTCA CHAMPIONSHIP AS WELL.

AND THEN ALSO THERE WAS JEWELL.

THIS THIS PAST WEEK AS WELL AND VARIOUS BANDS AND EVERYONE DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB.

I AM VERY PROUD OF ALL OF THE BANDS, BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS, ALL THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND GREAT THINGS ARE LOOKING UP.

BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS.

BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS, YES.

VERY GOOD. [APPLAUSE] THANKS, DR.

HALL. YES, MA'AM. IF I COULD PIGGYBACK ON SOMETHING MR. GRASSIA SAID ABOUT THE CHISHOLM TRAIL RUN.

YES, MA'AM. GO FOR IT. I WANT TO ENCOURAGE OTHER PEOPLE MY AGE TO COME OUT AND RUN

[00:05:05]

BECAUSE I WON THE LAST TIME.

BUT IT'S ONLY BECAUSE I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN MY CATEGORY.

OKAY. [LAUGHTER] I THINK YOU'VE WON A COUPLE OF TIMES, MS. DAVIS. MR. RAY TRUSTEE RAY. WELL, I'LL BE THERE, JUNE.

SO MAYBE.

YOU WON'T BE IN MY CATEGORY, MR. RAY. OH, SORRY.

SO A COUPLE OF THINGS.

ONE, I WANTED TO.

PARKWAY ELEMENTARY HAS A FREE PROGRAM ESL FOR ADULTS.

I THINK THERE ARE 17 FOLKS WHO ARE ENROLLED RIGHT NOW IN THIS PROGRAM THROUGH THE 21ST CENTURY AFTER SCHOOL, THE CLASSES EVERY THURSDAY FROM 5:30 TO 6:15.

IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS WHO NEED TO LEARN.

WOULD LIKE TO LEARN A LITTLE BIT MORE ENGLISH TO HELP OUT WITH THE KIDS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO ENROLL, YOU JUST GOT A CALL PARKWAY AND THEY'LL GET YOU SET UP. AND ALSO WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO ME, MY OLDEST HAS BEEN IN THE IMPACT PROGRAM AND IS ON THE SPECTRUM AND SO DEALING WITH SPECIAL ED AND ALL THAT, THE APRIL 18 TO 22 IS AUTISM ACCEPTANCE SPIRIT WEEK.

STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS WEARING BLUE, WHICH IS A SENSORY, CALMING, COLOR WEARING RAINBOW TO CELEBRATE THE BEAUTY AND THE DIVERSE SPECTRUM OF THE HUMAN MIND AND WEARING SUPERHERO SHIRTS TO SHOW THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A HERO.

AND THEN LASTLY, DR.

MCFARLAND IS GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT. SO I'M NOT GOING TO STEAL HIS THUNDER, BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY THE EVENT THAT THEY PUT ON THAT WE PUT ON THIS LAST WEEKEND WAS REALLY PHENOMENAL. AND I'LL LET HIM THE SPRING FAMILY FESTIVAL.

I HOPE EVERYBODY MADE IT OUT.

I'LL LET DR. MCFARLAND TALK MORE ABOUT THAT, BUT THAT'S ALL I GOT.

THANK YOU. OKAY.

WELL, I DON'T THINK THAT THEY LEFT ME ANYTHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT.

I MEAN, THERE'S ALWAYS EXCITING AND WONDERFUL THINGS HAPPENING IN CROWLEY ISD, SO I GUESS I'LL JUST KIND OF TRY TO TIE A BOW ON ALL OF IT.

SO HATS OFF TO OUR STUDENTS AT DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE COW TOWN 5K SO WE WANT TO DEFINITELY APPLAUD THEM.

AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NORTH CROWLEY DRUM LINE.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN, SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE GET PEOPLE REGISTERED AND GET THAT INFORMATION OUT. AND I'M VERY EXCITED TO HEAR ABOUT THE ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES THAT ARE BEING HELD AT PARKWAY ELEMENTARY.

THAT'S A SUBJECT THAT'S VERY NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART, SO I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

ACCORDING TO PRINCIPAL BELL, I THINK SHE HAS ABOUT 20 PARENTS THAT ARE COMING REGULARLY, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO HER PROGRAM GROWING AND BLOSSOMING.

AND THEN AGAIN, KUDOS TO SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR THEIR RECOGNITION OF AUTISM ACCEPTANCE SPIRIT WEEK.

SO WITH THAT SAID, I'M NOT GOING TO STEAL DR.

MACFARLAND'S THUNDER.

I'M NOT. BUT I DO.

I'LL WAIT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT WAS LIKE A FAMILY THING.

SO I'LL WAIT AND THEN I CLAP AND PUMP Y'ALL'S HEADS UP ABOUT THAT LATER.

SO THAT'S IT.

SO OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM IS AGENDA ITEM 3.0.

[3.0 Superintendent Report]

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT SPRING FAMILY FESTIVAL AND JOURNEY FAIR HIGHLIGHTS.

SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, THIS IS REALLY ALL OF OUR ALL OF OUR ACTIVITY, ALL OF OUR EVENTS TO BE REALLY PROUD OF.

IT'S DEFINITELY EXCITING TO BE ABLE TO PRESENT THE SPRING FAMILY FESTIVAL AND THE JOURNEY FAIR. AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, ON SATURDAY.

LAST SATURDAY WE HAD A BIG DAY AT [INAUDIBLE] CENTER.

WE HAD ACTUALLY A JOURNEY FAIR, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE CALLING OUR JOB FAIR, BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT WHEN WHEN PEOPLE WANT TO JOIN OUR TEAM, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY KNOW THAT WE'RE ON A JOURNEY, WE'RE ON A MISSION.

AND SO WE HAD AN AWESOME TIME AT BRJ WITH OUR JOURNEY FAIR.

BUT NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE OUR JOURNEY FAIR, WE HAD A SPRING FAMILY FESTIVAL.

THE WEATHER, THE WEATHER WAS OUTSTANDING AND ATTENDANCE WAS PHENOMENAL.

AND SO WE REALLY, REALLY DID A GOOD JOB OF SHOWING WHAT CROWLEY ISD IS ABOUT AND REALLY WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT. AND SO YOU'LL SEE A COUPLE OF PICTURES AS WE GO THROUGH OF ACTIVITIES. WE HAD FOUR STUDENTS AND FOR KIDS AND FOR FAMILIES BE ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER ENTERTAINMENT. ALL OF THOSE THINGS WERE IMPORTANT.

YOU KNOW, ONE OF OUR GOALS IN CROWLEY ISD IS TO HAVE AN ENGAGED COMMUNITY.

WE WANT TO HAVE AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY.

AND SO WE HAD ACTIVITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS OF ALL ALL DISABILITIES AND FOR ALL KINDS OF STUDENTS. BUT WE ALSO HAD HAD ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS AND KIDS TO BE ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER IN THE BUILD, THAT SENSE OF THAT SENSE OF FAMILY THAT WE THAT WE DEFINITELY WANT TO PROMOTE IN CROWLEY ISD AGAIN, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED.

HAD A GREAT DAY, HAD A GREAT DAY ON SATURDAY.

NOT ONLY DID WE HAVE THE JOB FAIR, NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE THE JOURNEY FAIR, NOT ONLY DID WE HAVE THE FAMILY FESTIVAL, WE ALSO HAD OUR SPRING EXCUSE ME, OUR STEM SHOWCASE.

AND SO WE HAD A STEM SHOWCASE AND WE HAD KIDS WITH, WITH MANY DIFFERENT PROJECTS AND

[00:10:01]

PRODUCTS AND IT WAS OUTSTANDING ON THAT DAY.

AS IT RELATES TO OUR JOURNEY FAIR, WE HAD ACTUALLY 21 CONTRACTS AND LETTERS OF INTENT SIGNED. AND I CAN TELL YOU THIS, THIS BRINGS OUR NUMBER TO RIGHT AROUND 70 FOR THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT WE'VE HIRED.

THIS IS REALLY WE ARE WAY AHEAD OF WHERE WE'VE BEEN IN THE PAST AND WE ARE OVER HALFWAY TO BEING COMPLETELY STAFFED.

AND AGAIN, THAT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OF A GREAT RESIGNATION.

SO WE FEEL EXCITED ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE HAVE MANY, MANY PEOPLE WHO WANT TO JOIN US IN CROWLEY ISD. IN ADDITION, WE ALSO HAD A REGISTRATION FOR OUR PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN WITHIN OUR DISTRICT, AND WE SIGNED UP 260 STUDENTS ON SATURDAY.

AND THAT WAS PHENOMENAL TO SEE AND IT WAS JUST EXCITING TO BE ABLE TO DO ALL THESE, TO BE ABLE TO PERFORM ALL OF THESE ACTIVITIES ON ONE LOCATION.

YOU CAN SEE AGAIN, YOU SEE THE STEM THE STEM FAIR, THANKS TO [INAUDIBLE] AND OTHERS, TO REALLY HIGHLIGHT AND SHOWCASE INNOVATIVE STEM ACTIVITIES THAT ARE OCCURRING IN OUR DISTRICT. AND WE ALSO HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE.

YOU SEE THAT ON THE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, MY RIGHT HAND SIDE, YOU'LL SEE A PICTURE AND JUST LOOK AT THE CROWD AND LOOK AT THE CELEBRATION.

AND NO, WE'RE NOT CELEBRATING BECAUSE WE WON A FOOTBALL GAME.

WE'RE NOT CELEBRATING BECAUSE THAT WAS A SHOT MADE AT THE BASKETBALL GAME.

WE'RE NOT CELEBRATING BECAUSE OF ANYTHING OTHER THAN ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.

WE HAD SEVERAL PERFECT SCORES.

AND SO YOU SEE THE CELEBRATIONS AND THEY ARE THEY ARE PHENOMENAL.

I ASKED KIRCHNER TO JUST HOLD THIS PICTURE HERE FOR A SECOND.

AND, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS PICTURE, YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT ABOUT I THOUGHT ABOUT SHOWING YOU A PICTURE OF A COKE CAN AND REMOVING THE COKE AND JUST SHOWING YOU THE CAN.

AND I KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE DONE THAT, YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN IMMEDIATELY.

THAT'S A COKE. IF I WAS SHOWING YOU TO THE MCDONALD'S ARCHES, YOU WOULD HAVE HAD THE SAME MCDONALD'S. YOU WOULD HAVE LOOKED AT THE ARCH AND YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY THAT THAT IS MCDONALD'S.

AND WHAT I'M SAYING, WHEN I LOOK AT THIS PICTURE AND I THINK ABOUT THE BRAND OF CROWLEY ISD, THIS IS A PICTURE THAT I'VE ASKED, MR. KIRSCHNER, TO BLOW THIS PICTURE UP.

IT NEEDS TO GO IN A NEW ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, BECAUSE IF NO ONE EVER HEARD ANYTHING THAT WE SAID NO ONE WAS EVER, EVER ABLE TO READ ANYTHING THAT WE WROTE.

IF THEY WERE ABLE TO LOOK AT THIS PICTURE, WHAT THEY'LL SEE, THEY'LL SEE DIVERSITY.

WE BELIEVE IN CROWLEY ISD THAT DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH.

IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, YOU'LL SEE THE DIVERSITY, HOW EVERYONE IS CELEBRATING THIS YOUNG LADY, THE STUDENT IS IN THE MIDDLE.

IF YOU WERE TO LOOK AT THIS PICTURE AND YOU LOOK FOR OUR BRAND, WHAT YOU'LL SEE IS YOU SEE A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE THAT ARE HERE TO CELEBRATE KIDS.

AND SO YOU SEE A FAMILY, YOU SEE A MOM.

WE THOUGHT WE WERE TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER THAT WAS THE TEACHER OR THE MOM.

WE REALLY COULDN'T DECIDE.

SO WE SAID, HEY, YOU KNOW, WHEN A PARENT'S NOT THERE, THE TEACHER IS THE MOM.

AND SO THE MOM, I BELIEVE THAT'S A MOM.

SO ANYWAY, WE'RE YOU SEE THE MOM, SHE'S AS EXCITED AS AS THE YOUNG LADY IS.

AND SO YOU JUST SEE THIS IDEA THAT IN CROWLEY ISD, WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE IS THAT WE ARE A FAMILY. WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE IS THAT WE CELEBRATE.

WE CELEBRATE EACH OTHER, WE CELEBRATE SUCCESS, WE CELEBRATE DIVERSITY.

AND REALLY WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE IS THAT WE JUST BELIEVE THAT WHEN WE ACT, WE WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM, THAT THERE'S NOTHING THAT WE CAN THAT WE CANNOT DO THIS THESE ACTIVITIES OVER SIX ACTIVITIES OCCURRED.

WE HAD SEVERAL THOUSAND PEOPLE THERE.

WE ALSO HAD FOOD TRUCKS AND BOUNCY HOUSES AND HAD EVERYTHING.

AND HERE'S THE REALITY.

WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE ANY OF THIS IF OUR CUSTODIANS HAD WORKED THE WHOLE NIGHT TO GET THINGS READY, AND IF OUR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION HADN'T TAKEN THE TIME TO SET UP THE TENTS AND SET UP THE THINGS TO BE SUCCESSFUL, WE ALSO HAD A IN THE MIDST OF ALL THAT WE ALSO HAD. IT'S STUDENTS AND REALLY ELEVATING OUR STUDENTS VOICES.

AND SO WE HAD A ACTUALLY A PODCAST THAT'S STARTING CALLED LISTENING LEADERS, WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE NOW TALKING TO THE LEADERS IN OUR DISTRICT ABOUT WHAT WE NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB FOR THEM. AND SO ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, YOU'LL SEE WE HAD SEVEN STUDENTS THAT PARTICIPATED IN OUR LEADERSHIP PODCAST.

SEVERAL OF THE BOARD MEMBERS ACTUALLY ALL OF THE BOARD MEMBERS WERE PRESENT AND I KNOW THAT MR. RAY, I BELIEVE I WAS TOLD, SAT THROUGH ALL OF THE PODCASTS AND SEVERAL OTHERS.

AND SO I APPRECIATE, YOU KNOW, THE BOARD'S DESIRE TO BE CONNECTED.

AND YOU'LL SEE HERE PICTURES OF ALL OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS.

WE'RE JUST NOT THERE.

WE ARE. THEY'RE ENGAGED.

THEY'RE THERE. THEY'RE ENGAGED.

AND IT IS JUST AN HONOR TO WORK AND TO BE A PART OF A FAMILY THAT CAN WORK LIKE A TEAM FOR THE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR DISTRICT.

SO IN A NUTSHELL, YOU KNOW, IN CROWLEY ISD, WE ARE DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE'RE A FAMILY.

WE'RE DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE CELEBRATE EXCELLENCE AND WE'RE A DIFFERENCE BECAUSE WE WORK LIKE A FAMILY, WE ACT LIKE A FAMILY AND WE WORK LIKE A TEAM.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] MR. RAY, DID DR.

MCFARLAND LEAVE YOU ANY COMMENTS LEFT TO MAKE WITH REGARDS? NOW, I WAS GOING TO SAY I REALLY ENJOYED THE PODCAST AND SITTING IN AND LISTENING TO STUDENTS TALK ABOUT WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO THEM AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO IMPROVE.

AND I WANT TO DO MORE OF THAT MOVING FORWARD.

AND I THINK IT WAS A GREAT START.

SO I JUST WANT TO DEFINITELY SHOUT OUT AND THANK THE ENTIRE DISTRICT, THE ENTIRE DISTRICT FAMILY FOR MAKING THAT EVENT POSSIBLE.

EVERYWHERE THAT I WENT, THERE WAS SOMEONE THERE THAT I RECOGNIZED AND I SAW, AND THAT

[00:15:02]

ACTUALLY KIND OF WARM MY HEART, TOO, THAT I KNOW SO MANY OF YOU, ALL RIGHT.

THAT WE RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER.

AND IT REALLY DOES FEEL LIKE FAMILY.

YOU KNOW, SOME FAMILY MEMBERS THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IN A WHILE FOR WHATEVER REASON, BUT THEY'RE STILL HERE AND WE STILL GREET EACH OTHER LIKE WE SEE EACH OTHER EVERY DAY.

YOU ALL KNOW I CAN BE A LITTLE PETTY SOMETIMES BECAUSE I, YOU KNOW, WORK OTHER PLACES AND I SOMETIMES COMPARE. I DO.

BUT I WAS SO PROUD SATURDAY.

I REALLY WAS JUST TO BE AN EDUCATOR AS WELL.

BUT JUST TO SEE THE INNOVATION, THE HARD WORK THAT WENT INTO HOW YOU DID THINGS, THE SIGNING DAY, IF I WAS GOING TO WORK IN A DISTRICT AND PEOPLE WERE GOING TO HAVE LIKE A SIGNING DAY, LIKE THE NFL AND CHEER FOR ME WHEN I CAME DOWN THE STAIRS.

I MEAN, WHAT A GREAT WAY TO SHOW WHAT WE'RE ABOUT AND HOW.

I DON'T KNOW. I JUST FEEL LIKE YOU'D ALREADY STARTED BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE THAT WE JUST MET AND TO SEE THEIR FACES AND WE WERE GREETING THEM.

SO THAT WAS GREAT. AND THEN JUST TO SEE THE FAMILIES, LIKE DR.

MCFARLAND SAID, IT WAS JUST A GREAT DAY.

I'M REALLY PROUD ABOUT IT.

I PUT LOTS OF PICTURES ABOUT IT.

I'M STILL TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT IT, BUT KUDOS TO ALL OF YOU FOR COMING TOGETHER TO PUT ON SOMETHING SO MAGNIFICENT EVERY TIME.

I JUST WONDER HOW YOU'RE GOING TO TOP YOURSELVES, BUT JUST CONTINUE TO STRIVE TO DO SO.

BECAUSE Y'ALL ALWAYS SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT.

THIS NOW BRINGS US.

YES, MA'AM. I HAVE A QUESTION.

DR. MCFARLAND, WHICH GROUP SPONSORED THAT PODCAST AND HOW CAN WE TUNE IN? IS IT TOO LATE TO HEAR IT OR? ACTUALLY, I DO BELIEVE IT IS RECORDED AND WILL BE POSTED AND AVAILABLE.

IT'S OUR STUDENT LEADERSHIP GROUP.

IT'S ONE OF OUR GROUPS IS CALLED OUR MALES OF COLOR.

BUT OTHER THE OTHER GROUPS ARE JUST DIFFERENT STUDENT ACTIVITY CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES ON OUR CAMPUS. THEY SUBMIT LEADERS AND THOSE LEADERS ACTUALLY AGREE TO BE ON THE SHOW.

SO THAT WAS ACTUALLY OUR FIRST.

WE HAD ALL BOYS, ALL YOUNG MEN.

AND OF COURSE, BEFORE WE CAN GET OUT OF THE STUDIO, THE YOUNG LADIES WERE SAYING, WE'RE NEXT. AND SO WE'RE GETTING READY FOR OUR YOUNG LADIES PODCAST.

AND SO WE'LL HAVE A SERIES OF PODCASTS AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH WHERE WE'LL BE HEARING FROM OUR STUDENTS. SO I KNOW TRUSTEE DAVIS THAT THE PRODUCER THAT DAY WAS MS. DIGGLES. I DON'T KNOW IF SHE'S GOING TO ALWAYS BE THE PRODUCER, BUT I WAS NOSEY AND I TOOK PICTURES OF THE PROGRAM ON MY PHONE BECAUSE I PUT THAT ON THE INTERNET TOO.

SO I KNOW MS. DIGGLES WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT DAY, AND SHE HAD A GREEN ROOM FOR HER PARTICIPANTS, SO THEY HAD CANDY AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

SO, MS. DIGGLES, WHEN CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT OR CAN WE? DO YOU KNOW HOW WE CAN ACCESS THE PODCAST? CAN WE DO THAT? OKAY. WILL YOU PLEASE BE SURE TO SHARE THAT WITH THIS FOR THOSE OF US THAT WEREN'T ABLE TO SEE IT ALL? ARE THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTEES THAT HAVE COMMENTS? I'M SORRY FOR NOT ASKING.

ALL RIGHT. REALLY QUICK.

SO GETTING THERE AS EARLY AS I DID.

AND UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD TO LEAVE EARLY AS WELL, GETTING TO MEET A LOT OF THE NEW TEACHERS AND FINDING OUT WHERE THOSE TEACHERS WERE COMING FROM.

FROM DALLAS.

FROM MANSFIELD.

FROM ARLINGTON.

I MEAN, RIGHT AROUND HERE, GREAT ISDS THAT WE'RE BRINGING IN.

AND THAT'S REALLY ENCOURAGING.

SO GREAT JOB, EVERYONE.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

SO THIS BRINGS US TO OUR REPORT ITEMS, REPORT ITEM 5.1 CROWLEY HOUSE OF HOPE, COMMUNITY AND CAMPUS PARTNERSHIP'S DR.

MCFARLAND. DR.

HALL, I APOLOGIZE.

THERE WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE BOARD TO REPORT ON ITEM 4.1 NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE.

I APOLOGIZE. THANK YOU, MR.

[4.0 Board Report Item(s)]

KIRCHNER. A BOARD REPORT ITEM 4.0 NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE.

OKAY. I'LL GO FIRST, DR.

HALL. OKAY.

SO I ATTENDED A SESSION THAT WAS TITLED ADVOCACY AS ENGAGEMENT CONNECTING YOUR COMMUNITY WITH PUBLIC EDUCATION.

AND IT WAS A SCHOOL DISTRICT IN WISCONSIN THAT HAD A LITTLE OVER 8,300 STUDENTS, AND THEIR OBJECTIVE WAS STANDING UP FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION.

AND THEIR LOCAL LEVEL ACTION IS TO REMEMBER IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS, THEY SAID WHEN IT COMES TO POLICY, THE BOARD SETS THE VISION AND DIRECTION, ENCOURAGING ALL VOICES BE HEARD. THEY ALSO SAID THE FIRST STEP WHEN CONSIDERING THE DIRECTION IS TO ENSURE MEETING STUDENTS NEEDS, AND THAT THAT STARTS WITH ANALYZING THE FACTS AND THEN TAKING STEPS TO MEET ALL STUDENTS NEEDS.

THEN THEY SAID, WE HAVE TO KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING.

SO I STARTED TO THINK ABOUT HOW WE CISD KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING, AND TO

[00:20:07]

REMIND US THE BOARD OF THIS WE HAVE IN FRONT OF OUR PLACES HERE OF US AS A CONSTANT REMINDER FOR US TO KEEP THE MAIN THING.

THE MAIN THING.

IT IS OUR MISSION STATEMENT AND OUR GOALS.

AND IN AN EFFORT TO INFORM THE COMMUNITY, OUR STAFF REPORTS ALWAYS STATE THE DISTRICT GOAL TO HELP CONNECT THE DOTS OF WHY THE REPORT IS SIGNIFICANT TO ACHIEVING OUR GOALS.

I CONTINUE TO MAKE IT PERSONAL AND I THOUGHT ABOUT HOW WE CONNECT.

AND WE DO THAT BY ASKING INPUT VIA SURVEYS FROM STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS.

AND SOME OF THE SURVEYS ARE WE CAN WE SEND A SURVEY TO THE PARENTS FOR INPUT ON THE BUDGET REZONING AND RESTRUCTURING, TEXTBOOK ADOPTIONS, SCHOOL SAFETY AND WITH THE KIDS OF COURSE, WE WANTED THEIR INPUT ON FOOD AND SCHOOL SAFETY AND THIS IS JUST TO NAME A FEW.

WE ALSO SOLICITED INPUT FROM OUR TEACHERS VIA SURVEYS ON THINGS LIKE THE CALENDAR, NEW PRINCIPALS SELECTION, COVID PROTOCOLS, SCHOOL SAFETY, TEXTBOOK ADOPTION, AND FEEDBACK ON TOOLS AND ASSESSMENTS.

AGAIN, ENCOURAGING ALL VOICES TO BE HEARD.

FINALLY, THEY SAID ABOUT GETTING PAST THE POLITICS.

AGAIN, IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS.

SO BACK TO THE TITLE OF THE SESSION ADVOCACY AS ENGAGEMENT.

I WANT TO CLOSE WITH A PERSONAL STATEMENT.

HAVING POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT ENSURE OUR STAFF AND OUR STUDENTS, ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS ARE BEING MET IS THE BEST WAY I CAN ADVOCATE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF AND KEEP THE MAIN THING.

THE MAIN THING.

THANK YOU. GREAT JOB, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

I'M SORRY I LET HER GO FIRST.

AND WOULD ANYONE ELSE LIKE TO GO? STILL.

I'M NOT QUITE AS.

GO FOR TRUSTEE RAY.

PREPARED AS JUNE IS.

BUT YOU KNOW, I JUST SAY THE.

SO ACTUALLY IN THIS [INAUDIBLE] JUST SEND ME A CARD.

IT'S BEEN TEN YEARS.

THE I GUESS THE NEXT MEETING.

BUT SO I'VE BEEN TO SEVERAL OF THESE.

ONE THING THAT.

ONE THING I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT A LOT IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS IS, YOU KNOW WHAT DO I YOU KNOW, WHAT DO I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH HERE? I THINK WE'VE DONE A LOT. WE'VE MOVED THE DISTRICT FORWARD A LOT.

AND ONE THING THAT REALLY I THINK STRIKES ME IS I WANT TO SEE MORE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN THE, WELL THROUGH AN ENGAGEMENT PERIOD.

I MEAN, THAT'S BEEN ONE OF OUR GOALS, YOU KNOW, FROM WHEN WE STARTED WITH THE PROGRAMS OF CHOICE, WHICH IS NOW EVOLVED SOMEWHAT, BUT WE'VE GOT THE CTE CENTER IS TO GET STUDENTS MORE ENGAGED. AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I HEAR IT ACTUALLY.

I'M GOING OFF, I'M GOING TO TALK AS LONG AS JUNE IF I'M NOT CAREFUL.

BUT THE AT THE PODCAST, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT IS WHEN YOU WALK THROUGH THE HALLS AT THE CTE CENTER, EVERYBODY'S IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

EVERYBODY'S WANTS TO BE THERE.

WHEN YOU WALK THROUGH THE HALLS AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS, MAYBE IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERE AND STUDENTS AREN'T QUITE AS ENGAGED.

AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, ENGAGEMENT IS THE KEY.

AND EVEN ACTUALLY ONE OF THE STUDENTS THERE WHO IS THE CLASS PRESIDENT AT NORTH CROWLEY, I MEAN, HE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THING.

YOU KNOW, ENGAGEMENT IS THE KEY.

SO HOW DO YOU GET STUDENTS MORE ENGAGED? AND I THINK ONE OF THE WAYS WE NEED TO DO THAT IS TO GET MORE STUDENT INPUT IN THE PROCESS. AND SO, YOU KNOW, I'VE TALKED TO DR.

MACFARLAND ABOUT THAT AND SOME OF THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS, BUT WE CAME AT THE NSBA AND I SAT DOWN AT A LUNCHEON NEXT TO TWO STUDENT BOARD MEMBERS IN MARYLAND.

IN MARYLAND, I GUESS THEY THEY LEGISLATE.

EVERY SCHOOL BOARD HAS A STUDENT BOARD MEMBER WHO IS ELECTED FROM THE STUDENT, THE, YOU

[00:25:02]

KNOW, 6 TO 12 STUDENT POPULATION.

THE ONE WAS BALTIMORE COUNTY, 110,000 KIDS, 6 TO 12.

HE HAD THE CAMPAIGN TO ELECT THE TO GET ELECTED.

AND THEY GET THEY GET VOTES ON EVERYTHING WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS, EXCEPT I THINK FOR THE BUDGET RIGHT NOW.

OBVIOUSLY WE DON'T HAVE THAT.

BUT WHAT I REALLY I THINK IT'S IT'S A GOOD MODEL FOR A WAY TO GET MORE STUDENT INPUT INTO THE PROCESS.

YOU KNOW, I'VE ALSO WENT TO THE STUDENT VOICES CONFERENCE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, PUT ON BY TASB AND THERE, YOU KNOW, YOU'VE GOT KIND OF OTHER OTHER OTHER STRUCTURES WHERE, YOU KNOW, THERE'S COUNCILS OF STUDENTS WHO ARE PROVIDING INPUT AND, YOU KNOW, MOCK OR NOT, JUNIOR SCHOOL TRUSTEES LIKE, YOU KNOW, THEY'LL HAVE SEVEN FOLKS ELECTED FROM THE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS WHO ARE LIKE THEY MEET BEFORE THE TRUSTEES DO AND THEY TALK ABOUT ISSUES AND THEN I GUESS MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE TRUSTEES.

SO I THINK THERE'S SOME PRETTY INTERESTING MODELS.

THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT MODELS OUT THERE, BUT I WOULD DEFINITELY LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING LIKE THAT SO THAT WE CAN GET MORE STUDENT INPUT INTO THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON AND THE THINGS THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. AND I THINK THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

AND THERE WERE A LOT OF OTHER THINGS IN THE CONFERENCE THAT WERE WERE GREAT, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO TALK ALL NIGHT, SO I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

TRUSTEE GRASSIA. DID YOU WANT TO GO? I'M NOT CALLING ON YOU. DO YOU LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING? I WILL. SO WE ALL HAD, I THINK, A GREAT TIME AND LEARNED A LOT OF GREAT STUFF. WE HAD A DAYMOND JOHN.

DAYMOND JOHN, ONE OF OUR KEYNOTES.

HE IS, TO ME, BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR.

HE'S VERY INSPIRING.

IT'S SOMEONE I LOOK UP TO.

AND ONE OF THE VERY FIRST THINGS THAT HE SAID WAS, IS ABOUT FINANCE AND WHETHER YOU'RE AN ADULT OR WHETHER YOU'RE A KID.

WE DON'T REALLY GET TAUGHT ABOUT FINANCE.

AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO REACH OUT AND SEE IF WE CAN, BECAUSE I THINK EVERYONE NEEDS EVERYONE. EITHER THEY GET OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND THEY GO INTO DEBT BUYING THE FIRST CAR, THEY GET OUT OF COLLEGE OR IN COLLEGE AND ALL OF THOSE STUDENT LOANS AND YOU'RE ALREADY IN DEBT. INSTEAD OF TAKING SOME CLASSES AT TCC OR YOU KNOW, BECOMING A JOURNEYMAN OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO FIND A WAY FOR US TO GET A FINANCIAL COURSE FOR THESE YOUNG PEOPLE SO THAT WHEN THEY COME OUT OF SCHOOL.

IF THEY DON'T LEARN ANYTHING ELSE, IT'S NOT TO GO INTO DEBT AND AND SPEND THE REST OF THEIR LIVES TRYING TO GET OUT OF IT, BECAUSE IT'S IT'S A HARD THING TO DO.

BUT IT WAS LIKE I SAID, IT WAS VERY INSPIRING.

HE TALKED ABOUT HIS MOM. HE LOVES HIS MOM.

I BOUGHT TWO OF HIS BOOKS AND I'VE STARTED THEM ONLY IN LIKE CHAPTER THREE.

BUT HE LOVES HIS MOM AND HIS MOM HELPED HIM WITH THIS WITH HIS FUBU BRAND.

AND HE WENT TO 23 BANKS.

AND HE HAD LIKE $1,000,000 THAT HE TECHNICALLY SOLD, WENT TO 23 BANKS AND THEY ALL DENIED HIM. AND THE STORY KIND OF RESONATES WITH WITH MYSELF.

I NEEDED A HALF A MILLION TO START MY RESTAURANT.

I WENT TO SEVEN BANKS.

THEY ALL TURN ME DOWN.

IT'S ALSO ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW AND TEACHING THESE KID, THE YOUNG THESE YOUNG PEOPLE ABOUT.

NOT ONLY KEEPING YOUR FINANCES UP TO PAR, BUT ALSO COMMUNICATION AND MEETING PEOPLE AND ENGAGING IN PEOPLE AND NOT BEING ON YOUR PHONES AND ALL OF THESE THINGS THAT IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE SCREEN, IT'S ABOUT THE EYE CONTACT AS WELL.

IT WAS JUST AMAZING.

SO IF AND HE WAS LIKE, DON'T RECORD, DON'T RECORD BECAUSE HE TALKS ABOUT L.L.

COOL J A LOT. HE TALKS ABOUT THE PEOPLE FROM SHARK TANK A LOT AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

SO HE'S LIKE, DON'T RECORD.

AND THEN HE'S LIKE, ALL RIGHT, TAKE OUT YOUR PHONES.

YOU GET ONE OR TWO SNAPSHOTS, BUT THEN PUT IT AWAY.

SO HE'S REALLY GREAT GUY.

[00:30:04]

AND THEN I WENT TO ANOTHER DR.

MCFARLAND INVITED ME TO A LUNCHEON.

AND THIS GENTLEMAN.

HIS NAME IS CHRISTOPHER [INAUDIBLE].

HE IS A VERY FAST TALKER.

HE WROTE A BOOK CALLED RATCHET DEMICK I HAVEN'T READ THAT BOOK YET, BUT I AM GOING TO.

AND OUT OF THIS HOUR AND A HALF.

AND IT WAS I FELT LIKE I WAS IN CHURCH, BUT NOT THE CHURCH THAT I KNOW OF.

THE CHURCH THAT I ASSUME THAT WOULD WOULD BE LIKE A BAPTIST CHURCH OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, OF WHICH I'M NOT.

BUT ONE THING THAT STRUCK ME IS HE TOOK THIS THIS TEACUP, AND HE FILLS THE TEACUP, AND THE TEACUP REPRESENTS THE CHILD AND THE WATER REPRESENTS THE KNOWLEDGE.

AND YOU POUR THE WATER INTO THE TEACUP, AND THEN HE TAKES SOME TEA, SOME TEA, AND HE POURS THE TEA INTO THE TEACUP AS WELL.

AND WHILE YOU'RE GETTING ALL OF THIS INFORMATION AND THEN DIFFERENT INFORMATION, IT STARTS TO COME OUT AND YOU CAN ONLY RETAIN SO MUCH INFORMATION.

BUT THEN.

IF YOU IF YOU TAKE LIKE A SPONGE AND THE SPONGE IS YOUR SOUL, AND IF YOU'RE A TEACHER AND YOU AND YOU PUT THIS SPONGE, YOUR SOUL INTO THE STUDENTS, THEY WILL GRASP MORE KNOWLEDGE.

THEY WILL UNDERSTAND MORE, THEY WILL GET MORE.

BUT YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE THE SOUL, THE SPONGE TO GIVE THESE KIDS.

BECAUSE IF YOU EXPECT THE CHILD TO BE PERFECT OR BETTER IN A CLASS.

YOU AS TEACHERS, NEED TO BE BETTER AS SOULFUL AS A TEACHER AS WELL.

IT'S NOT A TWO IT'S NOT A ONE WAY STREET.

IT'S A TWO WAY STREET.

NOW, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE TEACHERS EITHER.

SO THERE ARE OTHER THINGS.

BUT I WAS LIKE, MAN, THAT IS DEEP.

AND THEN I JUST THOUGHT OF IT THE ENTIRE DAY, THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE, AND THEN INTO THIS NEXT WEEK. SO I'M SORRY I'M RAMBLING, BUT IT WAS REALLY POWERFUL.

SO THANKS, DR.

MCFARLAND. ALL RIGHT.

I'M NOT REQUIRING YOU TO GO.

DO YOU WANT TO GO? YEAH, I'LL GO.

OKAY. OKAY.

THE SESSION I ATTENDED WAS ON TRAUMA SENSITIVE SCHOOLS, AND SO THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT IN CONNECTICUT STARTED TRAUMA SENSITIVE PROGRAMS BEFORE THE PANDEMIC.

SO DURING THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR, THEY WERE LOOKING AT SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL LEARNING FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENGAGING STUDENTS.

WELL, WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THAT SCHOOL YEAR.

SO WHEN THEY FIRST DID THEIR INITIAL RISK ASSESSMENT AND RISK MATRIX, THEY SAW STUDENTS WHO WERE LOW RISK.

SO THEY WERE GREEN. THEY WERE GOOD TO GO.

MODERATE RISK, YELLOW AND THEN HIGH RISK STUDENTS.

WELL, WHEN THEY RETURNED FROM SCHOOL LAST SCHOOL YEAR, EVEN THOSE STUDENTS WHO WERE LOW RISK AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, MARCH 2020, WHEN THEY CAME BACK, THEY WERE RED.

SO ACROSS THE BOARD, NO MATTER WHERE STUDENTS HAD STARTED IN 2019, 2020, ALL STUDENTS RETURNED AT THE HIGH TO MODERATE RISK.

AND EVEN THOSE WHO WERE IN THE HIGH TO MODERATE RISK WERE EVEN MORE ELEVATED, HAD EXTENSIVE RISK.

AND SO THE SESSION WAS, HOW DO WE ENGAGE THE WHOLE CHILD? HOW DO WE MEET KIDS WHERE THEY ARE? SO IT'S PRETTY SIMILAR TO WHAT TRUSTEE RAY AND TRUSTEE GRASSIA SPOKE ABOUT.

SORRY, I'M NOT FEELING THE BEST RIGHT NOW.

SO WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO WAS CREATE HIGH LEVERAGE, TRAUMA SENSITIVE CLASSROOMS WHERE TEACHERS WERE ENGAGED WITH THE STUDENTS, WHERE THEY HAD THAT RELATIONSHIP BUILDING WHERE IT WASN'T ONE SIDED, JUST TEACHING STUDENTS ABOUT SEL, BUT ALSO TEACHERS KNOWING ABOUT SQL. TEACHERS WERE ALSO IMPACTED.

WE ADULTS HAD THINGS THAT WENT ON ALSO DURING THOSE TWO YEARS.

SO WE'RE COMING BACK INTO THE CLASSROOM, TRYING TO POUR INTO STUDENTS AND WE MAY HAVE BEEN TAPPED OUT OURSELVES.

SO IT WAS JUST ABOUT THAT.

LET ME SEE. SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY TALKED ABOUT WAS PRAISING AND NOT ONLY JUST PRAISING LIKE, OH, YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB, BUT SPECIFIC PRAISE BECAUSE THEY SAID WHEN YOU PRAISE A STUDENT, THEY'RE THEY WANT TO PERFORM FOR YOU.

[00:35:03]

THEY WANT TO DO BETTER FOR YOU.

THEY'RE LIKE, LOOK AT ME.

AND SO IT'S LIKE DO FIVE PRAISES TO ONE CRITIQUE BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO GET BEAT DOWN, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU COME INTO THE BUILDING AND TRUSTEE RAY YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT GOING TO SCHOOL, BUT WHEN YOU FIRST WALK IN, THEY'RE LIKE TUCKING YOUR SHIRT.

WHY ARE YOU OUT OF UNIFORM? TAKE THAT HOODIE OFF YOUR HEAD.

LIKE THE FIRST THING THAT YOU SEE HERE IN THE MORNING IS SOMEONE GETTING ONTO YOU LIKE AND NO ONE WANTS TO GO THROUGHOUT THE DAY LIKE THAT.

AND SO REFRAMING HOW WE SPEAK TO STUDENTS AND MAKING SURE THAT OUR THE VOICES THAT THEY HEAR ARE POSITIVE ARE IF WE WANT TO CRITIQUE THEM, FRAME IT IN ANOTHER WAY.

THANK YOU FOR COMING THIS MORNING.

WILL YOU PLEASE TAKE YOUR SHIRT AND SOMETHING ELSE BUT A LITTLE LESS HARSH THAT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, AS AN ADULT, PEOPLE CAN TELL YOU THE SAME THING.

ONE PERSON CAN PHRASE IT ANOTHER WAY AND YOU'RE LIKE, OKAY, I WILL DO THAT.

SOMEONE ELSE. AND YOU'RE LIKE, WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO? AND SO YOU ALREADY START OFF WITH THIS BAD ATTITUDE, BUT THEY SAY THAT IMPROVES CLASSROOM CLIMATE. ADDITIONALLY, IF YOU'RE GOING TO PRAISE A STUDENT, YOU DID SUCH A WONDERFUL JOB AT EXPLAINING IT BY DOING BECAUSE SAYING I DID A WONDERFUL JOB DOESN'T REALLY TELL ME ANYTHING. IT'S WHAT YOU SAID.

SO THERE'S THREE WAYS TO ENGAGE THE CHILD BEHAVIORAL, THOSE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SKILLS.

ONE IS COGNITIVE, GIVING THEM THOSE ACADEMIC SKILLS AND THEN EFFECTIVE THAT SENSE OF BELONGING. SO WHEN YOU SAID STUDENTS IN CCE MAY WANT TO BE THERE, THEY'RE ALREADY IN THE CLASSROOM BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE THEY BELONGED OR ENGAGED OR READY TO GET INTO WHATEVER THEY'RE LEARNING. AND THEN MAYBE AT OTHER CAMPUSES, STUDENTS ARE LIKE, I'M JUST HERE BECAUSE I'M JUST SUPPOSED TO BE HERE, BUT THEY DON'T FEEL THAT SENSE OF BELONGING.

SO HOW CAN WE ENGAGE THE WHOLE CHILD? I'M SORRY. I KNOW I'M RUNNING OUT OF TIME, BUT THEY SAID, IF YOU DO THIS.

IT IMPROVES TEACHER OUTCOMES, GIVES TEACHERS A SENSE OF SELF-EFFICACY AND IMPROVES SCHOOL CLIMATE FOR STUDENTS.

IT INCREASES ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE.

THEY WENT ONTO SOME OTHER THINGS.

I WON'T GO OVER ALL OF IT, BUT IT JUST SAID BEST PRACTICE SHOWS THAT INCREASED PRAISE IS EVIDENCE BASED STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE CLASSROOM CLIMATE AND SHOWS HOW TO MODEL RELATIONSHIPS. OH, AND ANOTHER THING THEY DID SO THEY DID WALKTHROUGHS, BUT THESE WERE NON EVALUATIVE, SO THEY WERE FIVE MINUTE WALKTHROUGHS WHERE YOU JUST GO AND SEE HOW ARE STUDENTS DOING? ARE THEY ENGAGED? SO THEY ANYONE WHO'S SEEN A WALKTHROUGH FORM YOU, YOU KNOW, THERE'S [INAUDIBLE] CATEGORIES BUT THIS [INAUDIBLE] STUDENTS IN THE CLASS ENGAGE? ARE THE DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIORS? AND SO THEY DID A MATRIX TO KEEP TRACK OF HOW STUDENTS ARE DOING AND THEY REALIZED OVER TIME BY PUTTING IN THESE PROCEDURES AND IMPLEMENTING THEM, STUDENTS, DID THE SCHOOL CLIMATE INCREASE IN STUDENTS? I WILL STOP THERE BECAUSE I KNOW I CAN READ ALL OF THIS, BUT IT WAS VERY GOOD.

THANK YOU. TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

[APPLAUSE] DR. MCFARLAND, DO YOU WANT TO SAY SOMETHING? I MEAN. WELL, YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND GO BECAUSE Y'ALL DIDN'T REALLY LEAVE MUCH ON THE TABLE.

SO I THINK MY GREATEST TAKEAWAY FROM THE CONFERENCE IS JUST I'M GOING TO SAY HOW INTENTIONAL THE BOARD IS TO EXPAND THEIR LEARNING ABOUT EDUCATIONAL BEST PRACTICES.

OF COURSE, WHEN WE GO TO THE CONFERENCES, WE DO ATTEND SIMILAR SESSIONS AND SOME OF US THE SAME SESSIONS AS MY COLLEAGUES.

BUT AS EVIDENCED BY THE REPORTS THAT ARE GIVEN TONIGHT, I THINK THAT IT'S, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUS THAT THE BOARD IS VERY COMMITTED TO.

I GUESS, IMPROVING OUR CRAFT OR OUR EFFICACY AS BOARD MEMBERS AND THAT WE TRULY DO WANT TO BE YOUR PARTNERS IN THE WORK.

AND SO WHILE WE ENJOY THE FELLOWSHIP, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO GO AS A TEAM OF I GUESS WE'RE SEVEN NOW, BUT AS YOU KNOW, A TEAM OF EIGHT IS WHERE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE AND TO KIND OF LIKE TO BUILD THAT TEAM THAT WE HAVE AND WE GET THE FELLOWSHIP AND SOMETIMES WE BRING OUR FAMILIES.

SO THAT'S ALWAYS BENEFICIAL.

AND THEN I THINK, YOU KNOW, JUST THE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAVE ABOUT THE SESSIONS THAT WE'VE ATTENDED OR HOW WE RECEIVED INFORMATION OR HOW THEY IMPACT US IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND HOW THEY RESONATE. SO WHILE WE'RE HAVING FUN, I KNOW SOME PEOPLE THINK ABOUT I MEAN, LOOK AT THAT WHILE WE'RE ENJOYING OURSELVES, WE'RE REALLY LEARNING AND WE HOPE TO OUR INTENTIONS TO BRING THIS BACK, TO PUT IT INTO ACTION.

AND IT WAS A GREAT TIME, SO I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH.

[00:40:01]

DR. MCFARLAND.

SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, I WANT TO SPEAK NOT SO MUCH ABOUT THE ABOUT THE CONFERENCE, BUT I JUST WANT TO I WANT TO AFFIRM THE BOARD AND APPRECIATE THE BOARD.

AND REALLY, ALONG THE LINES OF WHAT YOU WERE SAYING, THE FACT THAT THAT YOU ALL ARE CONSTANTLY AND ALWAYS FOCUSED ON LEARNING AND GROWING, WHAT THAT DOES FOR US IN THE DISTRICT AS WE'RE LOOKING, LOOKING TO YOU ALL, IT REALLY SETS THE TONE THAT WE ARE A LEARNING ORGANIZATION.

AND SO I THANK YOU FOR MODELING THAT.

AND I DEFINITELY JUST WANT TO SHARE THIS LITTLE THING.

THERE'S A THING THAT SAYS WHEN THE ELEPHANTS FIGHT IS THE GRASS THAT SUFFERS.

AND IN OUR SITUATION, THE STUDENTS, THEY'RE REALLY THEY'RE THE ONES THAT BENEFIT FROM US ARE SUFFER. BUT WHEN THE ELEPHANTS WORK TOGETHER, YOU CAN BUILD MOUNTAIN, YOU BUILD PYRAMIDS AND MONUMENTS OF EXCELLENCE.

AND I THINK BECAUSE THE BOARD AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF LEADERS IN THE DISTRICT, BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE FOCUSED AND BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE CONSTANTLY PUSHING US TO TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE, THEN IT MAKES IT IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR US TO AT LEAST ASPIRE TO DO THE SAME.

SO I JUST WANT TO COMMEND YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT, AND THE BOARD, FOR JUST THE FOCUS THAT YOU HAVE. AND I CAN DEFINITELY TELL YOU THAT THE IDEA ABOUT THE STUDENT BOARD MEMBER.

WE ARE DEFINITELY. THANK YOU, MR. RAY. I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN SHARING THAT, YOU KNOW, QUITE FOR A WHILE.

AND I JUST HAPPENED TO BE ON THE BUS WITH A STUDENT WHO WAS ACTUALLY A STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. AND I TALKED TO HIM AND I'M LIKE, OKAY, THIS IS WHAT TRUSTEE RAY HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT.

WE KNOW THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE NEED.

SO THANK YOU ALL FOR FOR REALLY SETTING THE VISION FOR US.

AND OUR JOB IS TO EXECUTE AND OUR COMMITMENT IS TO DO THAT.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

ALL RIGHT. SO THIS MOVES US TO AGENDA ITEM 5.0.

[5.0 Report Item(s)]

AND IT'S OUR REPORT ITEMS WE ARE AT CROWLEY HOUSE OF HOPE COMMUNITY CAMPUS PARTNERSHIP, DR. MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, ONE OF OUR KEY GOALS IS TO HAVE AN ENGAGED COMMUNITY AND TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS CONNECTED, THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE AWARE OF OUR COMMUNITY AND THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY.

AND SO WE'RE EXCITED TONIGHT TO HAVE MS. ELIZABETH BECKER FROM THE CROWLEY HOUSE.

I HOPE TO REPORT ON OUR RELATIONSHIP.

MS. BECKER. AWESOME.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

IT'S REALLY AN HONOR TO BE WITH ALL OF YOU TONIGHT.

I CAME ON TO CROWLEY HOUSE OF HOPE JUST KIND OF RIGHT BEFORE THE PANDEMIC HIT.

AND SO I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE SECLUDED DOWN THERE ON MAGNOLIA STREET TAKING CARE OF FOLKS.

BUT I'M SO HAPPY TO BE HERE THIS EVENING WITH YOU.

I AS YOU ALL KNOW CROWLEY HOUSE OF HOPE HAS BEEN OPERATING AND FUNCTIONING IN THIS COMMUNITY SINCE 1994.

AND, IN FACT, THIS MONTH WE CELEBRATE OUR 28TH ANNIVERSARY.

IT HAS BEEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE REALLY A LONGSTANDING CENTER OF HOPE IN THIS COMMUNITY. WE PROVIDE FOOD AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, FREE MEDICAL CARE TO FOLKS WHO ARE UNINSURED IN THIS COMMUNITY, AND MANY SEASONAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.

FOR INSTANCE, AT THE BACK TO SCHOOL TIME, WE DO A BIG UNIFORM AND SCHOOL SUPPLY DISTRIBUTION FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.

THIS GOOD WORK HAPPENS TRULY BECAUSE OF THE DEDICATION OF OUR VOLUNTEERS AND LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS, LOCAL CONGREGATIONS AND OF COURSE, ALL OF YOU HERE, OUR FRIENDS WITHIN CROWLEY ISD.

AS ONE OF CROWLEY HOUSE OF HOPES PARTNERS.

YOU, ALONG WITH MANY OF YOUR CAMPUSES, MAKE A DIFFERENCE BY HELPING US LIVE FULLY INTO OUR MISSION OF SERVICE AND HOPE.

THE GIFT OF TIME AND SHARED EFFORT IS HOPE AND ACTION.

SO JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF THIS HOPE IN ACTION.

LAST FALL, STUDENTS FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL SHARED A SATURDAY MORNING, MIND YOU, AFTER A FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME.

THEY CAME TO OUR FACILITY AND ASSEMBLED BAGS AND PREPARED PACKAGES OF LAUNDRY SOAPS, LAUNDRY SOAP FOR OUR FOOD ASSISTANCE FAMILIES.

THEIR TIME, THEIR GIFT TO US IN THAT WAY WAS HOPE AND ACTION THAT MORNING.

OUR PARTNERSHIP IS RECIPROCAL IN NATURE, AND THAT MANY OF YOUR SCHOOLS OFTEN INVITE US TO COME OUT AND PARTICIPATE IN THEIR VARIOUS CAMPUS EVENTS.

SO RECENTLY WE PARTICIPATED AT RICHARD ALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOLS, WINTER RESOURCE FESTIVAL.

CROWLEY NINTH GRADE HAD A SIMILAR PROGRAM LAST FALL IN WHICH WE WERE ABLE TO GO OUT AND VISIT WITH FAMILIES THERE, TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT WHAT WE PROVIDE, HOW WE CAN MEET SOME BASIC NEEDS FOR THEM.

WE'VE ALSO PARTNERED WITH CROWLEY NINTH GRADE TO ENSURE THEY HAD ENOUGH FOOD FOR THEIR OWN THANKSGIVING BASKET PROGRAM THAT THEY PROVIDE TO FAMILIES THAT ARE AT THEIR CAMPUS.

SO WE KNOW THAT WHEN WE'RE WORKING TOGETHER, WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

THE IMPACT OF HOPE AND OUR PARTNERSHIP MEETS THOSE TANGIBLE NEEDS, SUCH AS FOOD AND

[00:45:04]

HYGIENE ITEMS. AND SO I WANT TO JUST CALL OUT A FEW OF THE SCHOOLS THAT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THAT.

STUDENTS AT JACKIE CARDON ELEMENTARY, JUNE W.

DAVIS ELEMENTARY, SUE CROUCH, CROWLEY HIGH, AND THEN YOUR OWN ADMINISTRATION FACILITY HERE HOSTED A FOOD DRIVE AS WELL FOR US.

SO DURING YOUR YEAR OF SERVICE, WHAT THAT DOES IS THAT REALLY HELPS.

CROWLEY HOUSE OF HOPE HAVE FULL SHELVES.

RIGHT? THE PANTRY IS FULL.

WHAT THAT IN TURN DOES FOR FAMILIES IN THIS COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THOSE FAMILIES IN SEARCH OF FOOD SECURITY, IS THAT IT ALLOWS THEM TO HAVE WELL-STOCKED PANTRIES IN THEIR HOME. STUDENTS AT SYCAMORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GATHERED NECESSITIES SUCH AS SOAP, TOOTHPASTE AND SHAMPOO.

THEY MADE IT FOR FAMILIES, MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR FAMILIES TO HAVE ACCESS TO SOME OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE ITEMS THAT WE PURCHASE AND THAT WE NEED.

I HAVE MANY TIMES BEEN IN THE PANTRY WHEN SOMETHING LIKE A HYGIENE ITEM HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO A FAMILY, AND I'VE NEVER BEEN IN THAT SITUATION.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO NOT HAVE SOAP AT MY HOUSE, BUT I CAN IMAGINE THAT IT IS QUITE DEMEANING AS A HUMAN TO NOT BE ABLE TO MEET THAT BASIC NEED.

AND SO WHEN THOSE FAMILIES CAN TAKE THAT HOME, IT CHANGES SO MUCH ABOUT THEM AND IT BREAKS MY HEART. I GET EMOTIONAL WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT, BUT THOSE STUDENTS AT SYCAMORE ELEMENTARY REALLY, REALLY LIFTED UP A LOT OF FAMILIES WITH THAT PROJECT.

YOUR YEAR OF SERVICE ALSO INSPIRED SOME UNIQUE WAYS OF MEETING BASIC NEEDS.

SEVERAL OF YOUR CAMPUSES DONATED, GENTLY USED CLOTHING ITEMS THAT WERE LEFT IN THEIR LOST AND FOUND BOXES.

RIGHT. I REMEMBER ONE DAY I GOT A PHONE CALL AND THERE WAS A IT WAS AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THEY SAID, WE'VE GOT THESE GREAT THINGS.

WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM. CAN YOU COME PICK THEM UP? AND I'M LIKE, SURE. YOU KNOW, I DRIVE A LITTLE SEDAN.

I'LL GO OVER AND PICK IT UP.

OH, MY GOSH, KIDS LEAVE SO MUCH STUFF AT SCHOOL.

BUT WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THOSE ITEMS AND PUT THEM IN THE THRIFT STORE AND MAKE THEM AVAILABLE TO OUR FAMILIES THAT ARE ON OUR CLOTHING VOUCHER PROGRAM.

AND SO THOSE FAMILIES ARE ABLE TO TAKE THOSE THINGS HOME FOR FREE.

AND REALLY WHAT THAT DOES IS IT STRETCHES THEIR LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES.

THEY CAN USE THOSE RESOURCES FOR SOMETHING ELSE.

WE CAN HELP THEM GET THAT NEXT SIZE JACKET OR NEXT SIZE PAIR OF SHOES THAT THEY MIGHT BE IN NEED OF. AND THEN A REMARKABLE GROUP OF STUDENTS FROM DALLAS PARK ELEMENTARY GATHERED UP WINTER HATS, GLOVES AND SCARVES LAST DECEMBER, AND THOSE ITEMS WERE USED AS PART OF OUR HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

MOMS AND DADS WERE ABLE TO COME THROUGH AND TAKE SOME GLOVES AND HATS AND THINGS LIKE THAT FOR THEIR KIDDOS.

SO NOT ONLY THE PHYSICAL WARMTH THAT WE ALL NEED, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, BUT ALSO THAT WARMTH OF HOPE AND LOVE FOR FAMILIES AT THAT TIME OF YEAR.

THESE SELFLESS ACTS HAVE AN OBVIOUS IMMEDIATE IMPACT.

HOWEVER, I MIGHT ALSO ADD, THE IMPACTS OF THIS GENEROSITY SHARED WITH OUR NEIGHBORS REACHES DEEPER AND SUPPORTS THE EXPECTATION OF GOOD THINGS TO COME.

THIS DEEPER IMPACT MAKES A DIFFERENCE BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING.

IT LIFTS ALL OF US.

IT ENCOURAGES AND IT INSPIRES HOPE.

SO AGAIN, I'M THANKFUL TO BE HERE AND TO SHARE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE IMPACT OF OUR PARTNERSHIP.

IT'S A PARTNERSHIP THAT IS SUSTAINED OVER THE DECADES AND WHOSE IMPACT IS FAR AND WIDE.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE GROWTH OF YOUR STUDENTS BY WEAVING OPPORTUNITIES OF SERVICE INTO THE FABRIC OF THEIR EDUCATION.

YOUR MISSION STATEMENT SAYS EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION, AND THIS TRULY ADDS TO THAT EXCELLENCE. I BELIEVE THAT IT'S THESE SHARED EXPERIENCES OF SERVICE THAT THESE STUDENTS ARE GOING TO TAKE WITH THEM OUT INTO THE WORLD AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS AT A TIME WHEN YOU PROBABLY HAVE SO MANY OTHER THINGS TO BE THINKING ABOUT, BE CONCERNED ABOUT FOR YOUR STUDENTS.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL AND WE'RE SO HAPPY TO BE PARTNERS AND RECIPIENTS OF YOUR GOODNESS.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] MS. BECKER, I WANT TO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT AND FOR I DON'T WANT TO CALL IT

[00:50:03]

A REPORT, BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE KIND THINGS THAT YOU SAID.

I THINK IT'S INTERESTING THAT YOU DID RECALL OUR MISSION, AND THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT WHILE YOU WERE TALKING, RIGHT, TO PROVIDE EXCELLENCE AND EDUCATION TO ALL STUDENTS SO THAT ALL STUDENTS ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

AND IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE I WAS THINKING NORMALLY WHEN YOU HEAR MISSION STATEMENTS FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS, YOU AUTOMATICALLY GO TO ACHIEVEMENT, RIGHT? WE JUST START THINKING ABOUT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.

AS YOU WERE GIVING YOUR REPORT, YOU THINK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT ONLY GIVING THE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE CONTRIBUTING CITIZENS RIGHT TO THEIR COMMUNITY, BUT ALSO IN THE GIVING. THERE'S ALSO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WHO ARE ALSO RECIPIENTS OF WHAT'S BEEN GIVEN. AND SO WE THANK YOU ALSO FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP.

IT'S DEFINITELY RECIPROCAL AND IT'S BEEN MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL TO US AS WELL AS THE DISTRICT, SO I HOPE THAT WE'LL CONTINUE THE PARTNERSHIP.

HAPPY 28TH ANNIVERSARY ON THE ORGANIZATION AND AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP AND GIVING OUR STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE AND TO ALSO RECEIVE.

MR. RAY? YEAH, I'M JUST.

YOU SHOULD MAKE THERE'S WHAT THIS WEEKEND.

I THINK YOU'VE GOT A DRIVE FOR PROM.

WE'RE DOING A PROM DRESS GIVEAWAY.

WITH THE LOCAL FOUNDATION.

11 TO 1 FAMILIES WILL ALSO HAVE ACCESS TO FOOD.

WE'VE GOT A COUPLE OF OTHER VENDORS OUT AN ORGANIZATION THAT CAN HELP STUDENTS OKAY. AND THANK YOU GUYS AGAIN, LIKE MIA SAID, FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO TO HELP OUR STUDENTS AS WELL. THANK YOU, MR. BECKER. THIS NOW BRINGS US TO REPORT ITEM 5.2 PROMOTING POSITIVE BEHAVIORS WITH OWNERSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY AND INCENTIVES OF H.F STEVENS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

DR. MCFARLAND.

SO, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM. THIS IS OUR SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH.

WE'RE HIGHLIGHTING H.F.

STEVENS AND THE AWESOME WORK THEY HAVE GOING AT H.F STEVENS WHERE WE HAVE PRINCIPAL [INAUDIBLE] HERE ARE PREPARED TO DELIVER THIS PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT.

DR. HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT.

DR. MCFARLAND. I'M REALLY EXCITED TO BE HERE.

I'M KIMBERLY [INAUDIBLE], THE PRINCIPAL OF H.F.

STEVENS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND I'M HERE WITH MY TEAM, OUR PBS PBIS TEAM LEADERS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL TO TALK ABOUT HOW PBIS REWARDS SHOWS OUR CULTURE AND ACTION.

AND IT IS ALIGNED WITH GOALS ONE, TWO AND THREE.

THRIVING STUDENTS ENGAGE COMMUNITY AND EMPOWERED STAFF.

THROUGH THIS PRESENTATION, MY TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE SHARING BITS AND PIECES OF THE WHAT, THE HOW AND WHY OF PBIS REWARDS AT H.F.

STEVES. BUT OF COURSE, BEFORE WE START TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING, WE USE LOTS OF ACRONYMS IN EDUCATION. BUT PBIS STANDS FOR POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS.

IT'S A RESEARCH BASED, PROACTIVE APPROACH TO ESTABLISHING THOSE BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS AS WELL AS SOCIAL CULTURE THAT IS REQUIRED SO THAT WE CAN KEEP ALL OF OUR STUDENTS ENGAGED, AS WELL AS ADDRESS THEIR SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND ACADEMIC NEEDS.

WHY DO WE HAVE THIS? H.F.

STEVENS IS A SCHOOL THAT REPRESENTS A HIGH POPULATION OF AT RISK STUDENTS, AND WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT SERVICING THEM AND INTENTIONAL ABOUT CREATING A POSITIVE CULTURE ON OUR CAMPUS.

THESE TWO STUDENTS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS ARE PARAMOUNT TO THEIR SUCCESS.

SO WE WANTED TO IMPLEMENT A RESEARCH BASED APPROACH TO A CAMPUS CULTURE.

WE WANTED TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. PUT STUDENTS AT THE CENTER OF OUR CAMPUS CULTURE.

WE WANTED A WAY TO ACTUALLY SHOW OUR CORE VALUES AND ACTION, AND THEN WE WANTED TO REWARD THOSE BEHAVIORS AND EXPECTATIONS THAT WE WANTED TO SEE MORE OF FROM OUR STUDENTS.

WE KNOW THAT ANY DISCIPLINE SYSTEM, WE WANT TO BE PROACTIVE.

AND THIS IS A RESEARCH BASED PREVENTATIVE DISCIPLINE MODEL THAT HAS 40% BASED ON POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS, BUT THERE'S ALSO HAVE TO BE CONSEQUENCES, MONITORING OF STUDENT BEHAVIORS, PARAMETERS THAT EXIST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE SHOW THEM WHAT THEY SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT DO AND HOW TO INTERACT IN A SCHOOL OF 805 STUDENTS AT ANY GIVEN GIVEN TIME.

I WANT TO HAND IT OVER TO MR. GRIMES. HE IS OUR SEL SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR.

HE'S AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL.

HE'S GOING TO TALK ABOUT OUR PERCENTAGE OF OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS THAT HAVE HAD IMPACTS WITH THE DECREASE OF ISS, WHICH IS IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION, OASIS, OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION AND DAP PLACEMENT, WHICH IS ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL PLACEMENTS.

SINCE WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED THE PBIS REWARD SYSTEM ON CAMPUS AND HOW WE'VE KEPT THOSE STUDENTS IN CLASS.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE, AND GOOD EVENING.

I'M NOT GOING TO BE AS ELABORATE AS [INAUDIBLE].

SHE'S MORE POLISHED THAN I.

[00:55:01]

NEVERTHELESS, AS WE LOOK AT THE TRAJECTORY, AS WE CAN SEE THE LEVEL OF ISS WHICH IS IN SCHOOL, SUSPENSION OSS SCHOOL SUSPENSION AND DAEP PLACEMENTS GO DOWN.

WE NEED TO LOOK BEHIND THE NUMBERS, UNDERSTAND WHY CAN WE GO BACK TO THAT OTHER.

YES. POWER POINT SLIDE? IF YOU CAN SEE RIGHT HERE WHERE IT SAYS 40% OF POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS BASICALLY FOCUS ON THE RELATIONSHIP AND HOW THAT RIGHT THERE IS THE BIGGEST COMPONENT OF STUDENT DISCIPLINE.

I THINK WHAT'S HAPPENING, CAN WE GO BACK TO THE DISCIPLINE AS WE START FOCUSING MORE ON STRATEGY, I REALLY LIKE WHAT MS. ROBINSON WAS SAYING IS LIKE NOT TAKE ANY THUNDER AWAY FROM Y'ALL.

BUT WHAT SHE WAS SAYING WAS REALLY HITTING HOME.

AND I THINK WHAT'S HAPPENING BEHIND THAT IS TEACHERS AND EVERYONE BECOME MORE FAMILIAR WITH PBIS AND THE STUDENTS.

WE REALIZE WE'RE NOT GOING TO KEEP JUST SENDING OUR STUDENTS AWAY.

THESE ARE OUR MOST AT RISK STUDENTS THAT USUALLY GO INTO ISS OFFICE AND DAEP AND AFFECT OUR ACADEMIC OUTCOMES.

SO WE WANT TO KEEP THEM ON CAMPUS MORE.

PBIS WORKS AS AN INCENTIVE TO KEEP PEOPLE THERE.

AND WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH OUR TEACHERS, WE HAVE ONE HERE THAT WILL ELABORATE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER ON THIS IS THAT WE'RE MOVING MORE FROM A TRANSACTIONAL TYPE INTERACTION TO MORE RELATIONAL, AS, YOU KNOW, TRANSACTIONAL BECAUSE YOU GET SO BUSY DURING THE DAY, YOU JUST MOVE ON AND MOVE THROUGH.

NOW, KNOWING THAT THE STUDENTS WILL BE HERE, WHAT'S HAPPENING IS OKAY, NOW WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO START WRESTLING A LITTLE BIT MORE WITH OUR STUDENTS AND BUILDING THOSE POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS. AND AS A RESULT OF BUILDING THOSE POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS, USING THE PBIS FRAMEWORK, WE CAN SEE OUR ISS, OSS AND DAEP PLACEMENTS DECLINE.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE. GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT BY ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS THAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT.

I'M EXCITED BECAUSE I TRULY BELIEVE IN WHAT PBIS STANDS FOR.

THIS INITIATIVE, WE'VE SEEN SUCH GREAT GAINS WITH OUR STUDENTS, FACULTY, COMMUNITY, AND ALL THOSE THAT HELP.

HOW DOES IT WORK? ALL THE STUDENTS FOLLOW THE SAME SET OF RULES THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS.

WHEN THE STUDENTS FOLLOW THE RULES AND EXPECTATIONS, THEY'RE AWARDED POINTS.

WHEN THE STUDENTS DO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES, THEY HAVE PLAIN CONSEQUENCES TO HELP KEEP THEM ON TRACK. SO ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS WE TRY TO DO IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF OUR TEACHERS, AS WELL AS THE STUDENTS, HAVE DOWNLOADED THE APP.

THEY HAVE IT EASILY ACCESSIBLE TO THEM.

SO THAT WAY WE MAY SEE A STUDENT IN THE HALL HELPING ANOTHER STUDENT PICKING UP TRASH.

WE CAN AWARD THEM POINTS FOR THAT.

SO WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO POUR BACK INTO OUR STUDENTS FOR ALL THE THINGS THAT THEY DO DO THAT'S ON TARGET, THAT'S ACCEPTABLE.

THAT'S SHOWING HOW RESPONSIBLE THAT THEY ARE.

ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS IS THE SUSTAINABILITY WITH OUR STUDENTS.

WE HAVE FIRESIDE CHATS QUARTERLY AND THROUGH THAT WE HAVE THEM EACH BY GRADE LEVEL.

SO THROUGH THAT OPPORTUNITY WE'RE ABLE TO TALK TO THE KIDS ABOUT WHAT OUR CORE VALUES ARE.

WE ALLOW THEM TO HAVE AN INPUT AS FAR AS WHAT ARE THOSE CORE VALUES AND HOW CAN WE EVEN JUST PARTICIPATE IN THAT THINGS THAT THEY KNOW THAT THEY CAN COMMIT TO.

WE ALSO TALK ABOUT JUST THE CONSEQUENCES OF EVERYTHING AND EVEN THE INCENTIVES.

I LOVE TO BE ABLE TO GET THE INPUT FROM THE STUDENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS.

WE CAN COLLABORATE ALL THE TIME, BUT WHEN WE ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO HAVE A SAY IN THAT, THEY GET MORE OUT OF IT.

THEY'RE EXCITED.

AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE TRY TO DO THROUGH THE FIRESIDE CHATS.

LIKE I STATED, WE DO IT QUARTERLY, SO WE'RE CONSTANTLY UPDATING ANY PERTINENT INFORMATION THAT WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT WITH THE STUDENTS THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS.

WE TAKE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO DO IT THEN, AS WELL AS ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO BE AN ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES AND SAY, HEY, [INAUDIBLE], CAN WE TRY THIS? YOU KNOW, I LIKE TO ASK THEM WHAT WHAT MOTIVATES YOU GUYS, WHAT INSPIRES YOU? WHAT ARE THE INTRINSIC THINGS THAT THAT CAN HELP YOU TO EVEN BE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER AND TO CONTINUE YOUR ACADEMIC SUCCESS.

SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE CONTINUE TO DO DURING OUR FIRESIDE CHATS.

THIS RIGHT HERE IS OUR SOAR VALUES.

IT'S OUR EXPECTATIONS MATRIX.

SO YOU SEE THAT SOURCE STANDS FOR SAFETY ORGANIZATION ATTITUDE AND ACCOUNTABILITY AND ROUTINE AND RESPONSIBILITY.

AND THAT'S ANOTHER THING THAT WE DISCUSS IN OUR FIRESIDE CHATS AND ALLOW THE STUDENTS, AS YOU SEE, WE HAVE THE CLASSROOM, ALL OF THE OTHER COMMON AREAS AS WELL AS ASSEMBLIES.

SO WE USE THIS MODEL AND WE ENSURE THAT THE STUDENTS ARE FOLLOWING THIS AND WE REMIND THEM, HEY, REMEMBER WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT WITH SOAR? WHAT DOES IT STAND FOR? AND SO WE'RE CONSTANTLY REINFORCING THAT WITH THE STUDENTS.

SO THAT WAY THEY HAVE THAT ACCOUNTABILITY PIECE.

THEY'RE ABLE TO RECITE IT TO US, THEY GET EXCITED ABOUT IT.

AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU'LL SEE DISPLAYED THROUGHOUT OUR CAMPUS.

SO THAT WAY IT CAN CONSTANTLY BE REINFORCED IN THE CLASSROOMS AND THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOLS.

[INAUDIBLE] SHE'LL CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE REWARDS.

BUT REAL BRIEFLY, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE INCENTIVES.

WE STARTED THE YEAR OUT WITH PBIS HOSTING KEITH DAVIS.

HE'S A FORMER NFL PLAYER AND HE WAS ABLE TO TALK TO THE STUDENTS.

[01:00:04]

EXTREMELY POWERFUL.

WE EVEN SEEN SOME STUDENTS CRYING.

AND SO WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO BRING IN OTHER SPEAKERS AND OTHER PEOPLE THAT CAN ALSO HONE IN ON SOME OF OUR CORE VALUES AND THINGS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO TEACH OUR STUDENTS.

ONE OF THE BIG EVENTS THAT WE DID, I DID DODGING FAILURES.

SO THAT WAS A HUGE INCENTIVE FOR ALL OF THE STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GOT THE 125 PBIS POINTS.

THEY COULDN'T GET IN TROUBLE AND BE ASSIGNED TO RESET OR CLC AND THEY HAVE TO HAVE 80 OR BETTER. SO WE'RE CONTINUING TO PROMOTE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

WE'RE CONTINUING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE TRY TO CORRECT THE DISCIPLINE AREAS THAT WE SEE A NEED AND A TOTAL FOCUS.

AND THE STUDENTS LOVED IT.

WE HAD A DODGEBALL GAME AGAINST THE ADVISORY CLASSES.

WE HAD MUSIC, WE HAD A CONCESSION STAND.

THE TEACHERS EVEN PLAYED AGAINST THE KIDS.

IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AND THE FEEDBACK THAT WE'RE GETTING NOW, SPECIFICALLY, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NEXT? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NEXT? AND WE ALSO WANT TO EVEN JUST POUR INTO OUR OTHER STUDENTS THAT ARE ALWAYS ON TASK.

SO WE RECENTLY HOSTED OUR FIRST STUDENTS OF EXCELLENCE BREAKFAST FOR OUR AB HONOR ROLL, PERFECT ATTENDANCE.

AND WE ALSO EVEN HAD PBIS STUDENT OF THE MONTH, WHICH WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE DID THAT, BUT WE ALLOWED THE TEACHERS TO BE ABLE TO NOMINATE STUDENTS BASED ON SOAR THOSE CORE VALUES. AND SO WE HONORED THEM.

WE HAD SOMEBODY FROM THE DISTRICT TO COME OVER AND FILM IT AND THE KIDS LOVED IT.

EVERYBODY RECEIVED A MEDAL.

THEY ALSO RECEIVED A CERTIFICATE AND BREAKFAST AS WELL.

AND SO WE'RE CURRENTLY EVEN TRYING TO PLAN THE END OF YEAR INCENTIVE FOR THE KIDS.

AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUOUSLY DO BECAUSE WE SEE THE FEEDBACK.

WE SEE THAT KIDS ARE MAKING A CHANGE AND WE KNOW HOW POSITIVE PBIS IS AND HOW IT'S WORKING FOR US. SO MS. B WILL CONTINUE ON.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU. THAT IS [INAUDIBLE].

SHE'S OUR COUNSELOR.

AS YOU SEE, SHE'S A MAJOR CHAMPION OF PBS REWARDS, AS WELL AS MR. GRIMES. AND SO IT IS SOMETHING THAT OUR BUDGET FOR EVERY YEAR IT'S VALUABLE TO ME.

I FEEL LIKE THAT IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE INTENTIONALLY BUILD POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS.

IT IS THE CULTURE OF H.F.

STEVENS IS THAT OF A FAMILY AND SO THAT'S WHY I LOVE IT THERE.

WE'VE NOT ONLY IMPACT STUDENTS, WE'VE IMPACT TEACHERS AS WELL.

OUR TEACHER TURNOVER RATE HAS GONE DOWN AS A RESULT OF TEACHERS ARE BOUGHT INTO THE FAMILY. AND SO SOMETIMES WE'RE DYSFUNCTIONAL, BUT WE WORK IT OUT AND WE GET THINGS DONE.

AND AND AGAIN, WE WORK WE ACT LIKE A FAMILY.

WE WORK LIKE A TEAM. SO I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A FOUNDATION AND A CORE PART OF WHAT WE DO AT OUR CAMPUS. THIS IS JUST KIND OF A PICTURE WHEN I SAY ADMIT ALL THREE GOALS, IT IS A THRIVING STUDENTS, ENGAGED COMMUNITY.

WE HAVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TEACHERS, ORGANIZATIONS THAT DONATE.

WE HAVE A BAG.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW MANY, PROBABLY ABOUT $500 WORTH OF SONIC AND SUBWAY GIFT CARDS THAT WE HAVE GOTTEN. 7-ELEVEN DOWN THE STREET IS ONE OF OUR PARTNERS.

THEY GIVE US $711 THIS SEMESTER TO PURCHASE SOME OF THESE ITEMS. TEACHERS AND PARENTS WILL BRING ITEMS TO RAFFLE OFF.

WE CAN DO SPECIAL QUICK RAFFLES AS A PART OF IT.

SO AGAIN, WE'RE CONSTANTLY BEING IN A RESTORATIVE VERSUS PUNITIVE METHOD AND, YOU KNOW, PRAISING THOSE THINGS THAT THEY DO WELL.

AND IT, AGAIN, INCENTIVIZES CONTINUES FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO DO WELL.

I WANT TO HAVE YOU TO LOOK.

THERE'S GOING TO BE A VIDEO THAT SHOWS OUR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT PBIS AND TALKING ABOUT HOW TRULY IMPACTS OUR CAMPUS.

SO YOU CAN KIND OF SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.

THANK YOU.

THE PBIAS SYSTEM.

FOR EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS ALIKE, IT IS A GREAT IMPACT ON THE CULTURE OF THE SCHOOL.

IT PROVIDES POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT.

THE STUDENTS KNOW THAT IF THEY'RE BEHAVING AND DOING THE THINGS THAT ARE REQUIRED, THEY'RE GOING TO BE REWARDED.

AND IN THE STORE THEY'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET GREAT THINGS FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR.

BUT AS A TEACHER, IT ALLOWS ME TO LET MY STUDENTS KNOW THAT I APPRECIATE YOU'RE DOING WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A GOOD SCHOLAR AT H.F.

STEVENS. IT GIVES YOU A SENSE OF PRIDE, LIKE WHEN YOU GET A NOT ACKNOWLEDGED IT SAYS, OH, WOW, LIKE I'M ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING LIKE, OH, I'M FEELING LIKE YOU GET THAT GET THAT SMILE ON YOUR FACE. YOU GET THAT JOY IN YOUR BODY LIKE IT'S A VERY GOOD FEELING.

SO THIS MOTIVATES THE KIDS TO ALWAYS DO THEIR WORK BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT IT'S NOT JUST WORKING AND WORKING, BUT IT'S ALSO HAVING SOME FUN AT THE END, ALSO HAVING SOME AWARDS AND WELL, IT'S IT MAKES THE KIDS TO ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION DURING THE WORK.

[01:05:02]

SO THROUGHOUT THE HALLWAYS AND IN CLASS, I CAN HEAR STUDENTS LIKE, OOH, I REALLY WANT TO BUY THE BLUETOOTH SPEAKER.

SO I'M TRYING TO GET 300 POINTS MS.A, I GOT 295 POINTS.

CAN I PLAY? WHAT CAN I DO TO GET FIVE POINTS? THINGS LIKE THAT. SO THEY REALLY ENJOY THE ASPECT OF SAVING UP THEIR POINTS TO PURCHASE WHAT THEY WANT. SO THEY'RE EAGER TO HELP OR DO THINGS OR TO GATHER THOSE POINTS.

IT ALLOWS ME TO REWARD THE STUDENTS THAT SOMETIMES GET LOOKED OVER BECAUSE THEY'RE ALWAYS DOING WHAT THEY NEED TO DO.

THE KIDS THAT ARE QUIET IN THE CORNER KIND OF LIKE HOW I WAS AND I CAN RECOGNIZE, HEY, YOU DID THIS, SO LET ME REWARD YOU WITH A COUPLE OF POINTS.

AND THEN THEY REALLY LIKE SAVING UP THEIR POINTS SO THEY CAN COME AND BUY THINGS IN THE SCHOOL STORE OR I ALSO HAVE MY OWN CLASSROOM STORE BECAUSE Y'ALL ARE WORKING SO WELL TOGETHER. I'M GIVING BOTH.

YEAH, THREE POINTS. GOOD JOB AS AN EDUCATOR.

WHAT I APPRECIATE ABOUT THE PBIS SYSTEM IS THE TEMPERATURE CHECK.

SO THE DAILY TEMPERATURE CHECK GIVES US A CHANCE IN THE MORNING TO LOOK AT OUR STUDENTS HOLISTICALLY AND SEE IF THEY'RE STARTING OFF WITH A BAD DAY.

NOW, WE DO KNOW THAT IF A STUDENT ISN'T STARTING OFF THE GOOD DAY AND THAT'S NOT INTERVENED, NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS CAN COME IN.

BUT I LIKE IT BECAUSE I CAN AS I'M CHECKING ROLL AND THEY'RE DOING THEIR CHECKING IN, I CAN SEE WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THEM.

AND IF I NEED TO HAVE A QUICK CONVERSATION TO DEVIATE A BAD BEHAVIOR OR TO GIVE THEM THAT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT THAT THEY NEED AT THIS AGE, THAT'S WHAT I'M GOING TO DO.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

IT GIVES STUDENTS LIKE VERY, VERY HIGH PRIDE.

LIKE JUST THE OTHER DAY I HEARD A GROUP OF KIDS WALKING DOWN THE HALLWAY AND IT WAS LIKE, OH, I GOT 200 POINTS PBIS.

OH, I GOT 300.

I'M LIKE, OKAY. LIKE IT GIVES THEM THE, THE FEELING LIKE, OH, WE'RE IN, WE'RE THE ONLY CAMPUS THAT'S DOING THIS.

AND I'M AT THE TOP LIKE, I'M THERE, LIKE I'M THAT PERSON.

WHAT I'M GOING TO DO, SINCE EVERYBODY HAS PARTICIPATED AND GAVE ME A CLAIM, WHAT I'M GOING TO DO IS I'M GOING TO GIVE EVERYBODY SOME POINTS.

A LOT OF TIMES NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS ARE SPOTLIGHTED.

AND THAT CAN PUT A POOR TASTE IN A KIDDOS MOUTH.

BUT IF YOU'RE DOING WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING AND A TEACHER IS LIKE, HEY, I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU DOING WHAT I ASK YOU TO DO TODAY.

GREAT. I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU SOME PBIS POINTS.

THAT KID'S BEHAVIOR, HE OR SHE THEY'RE GOING TO STRIVE TO BE GREAT EVERY DAY.

SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE CULTURE, THE CAMPUS.

SO ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR [INAUDIBLE] AND HER TEAM FROM THE BOARD? OKAY. TRUSTEE DAVIS.

I KNOW YOU HAD SOME QUESTIONS. WHY YOU LOOK AT ME? I JUST KNEW WHERE TO LOOK.

I COULD FEEL IT. YES, MS. DAVIS. WELL, FIRST OF ALL.

YES, MA'AM. THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING THE NEED TO DO SOMETHING AND THE FACT THAT YOU FOUND A SOLUTION.

RATHER THAN COMPLAINING ABOUT IT AND JUST LETTING IT GET WORSE, YOU REALIZED THE NEED AND YOU FOUND A SOLUTION.

SO THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME.

AND BECAUSE WE KNOW STUDENTS WILL RISE TO OUR LEVEL OF EXPECTATIONS.

ABSOLUTELY. IF WE DON'T THINK THEY CAN DO ANYTHING, THEN THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO GIVE US. BUT IF WE EXPECT MORE, THEY WILL RISE TO OUR EXPECTATIONS.

SO, AGAIN, THANK YOU AND YOUR STAFF.

I LOVE IT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. APPRECIATE IT.

TRUSTEE ROBINSON. JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.

THIS WAS TIMELY.

IT TIES RIGHT IN WITH WHAT I WAS SAYING AND MEETING THOSE HAVING THOSE TRAUMA SENSITIVE CLASSROOMS, MEETING KIDS WHERE THEY ARE IMPACTING TEACHERS ALSO.

AND IS THIS ACROSS THE CAMPUS, THIS DISTRICT, OR IS IT ONLY AT HF STEVENS? AS FAR AS I KNOW, IT'S ONLY AT HF STEVENS BECAUSE IT IS A COST.

IT'S AN INVESTMENT.

I MEAN, RIGHT NOW IT'S CAMPUS FUNDED.

BUT I MEAN, HEY, IF YOU GUYS WANT TO FUND IT.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT IN THIS AREA H.F.

IS A MODEL. AND SO WE LIKE TO TAKE MODELS AND SCALE.

SO OUR PLAN IS TO SCALE THIS.

BUT HF IS DOING A PHENOMENAL JOB WITH THIS FOR SURE.

AND THE GOAL IS TO EXPAND PBIS IN THIS WAY IN A VERY INTENTIONAL WAY ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM US, [INAUDIBLE]? WELL, I JUST WANT TO SAY TO MS. TRUSTEE ROBINSON'S POINT, IT WAS VERY TIMELY.

THANK YOU FOR AFFIRMING OUR LEARNING.

YES. BECAUSE IT REALLY WAS A TIE IN ABOUT EVERYTHING WITH REGARDS TO PRAISING STUDENTS AND TO MRS. DAVIS'S POINT.

[01:10:01]

THAT YOU HAVE A SYSTEM.

RIGHT. I MEAN, AS AN EDUCATOR, WE TALK ABOUT PBIS.

I'VE HEARD PBIS, BUT I'VE NEVER SEEN IT IMPLEMENTED SYSTEMATICALLY OR [INAUDIBLE].

I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IS THE RIGHT ONE.

I'M SURE YOU ALL KNOW, BUT IT'S JUST AWESOME THAT THERE'S ACTUALLY A SYSTEM FOR IT.

AND BECAUSE THERE'S A SYSTEM, EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE AND WE CAN SEE THE BENEFIT.

WITH REGARDS TO YOUR DATA AND HOW IT'S IMPACTING YOUR CAMPUS, SO HAS OFTEN KUDOS TO YOU FOR YOUR INNOVATION, FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP, AND FOR YOUR STAFF, FOR BEING A GREAT FAMILY TEAM AND WORKING FOR, YOU KNOW, THE SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENTS.

SO MUCH KUDOS.

YOU KNOW, ONE, ONE MORE THING, DR.HALL.

SO I KNOW IT'S NOT AT ALL CAMPUSES, BUT IS IT POSSIBLE FOR BITS AND PIECES OF IT TO BE USED WITHOUT THE FULL CONCEPT? BECAUSE I KNOW, YOU KNOW, TEACHERS COMPLAIN ALL THE TIME ABOUT.

THE STUDENTS.

COULD BITS AND PIECES OF THIS BE USED UNTIL WE CAN GET THE FULL BLOWN? AND I GUESS I SHOULD LEAVE THAT TO THEM TO ASK FOR A SOLUTION RATHER THAN JUST COMPLAINING ABOUT IT.

BUT I WILL SAY THIS, AND I TALKED TO SEVERAL PRINCIPALS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.

MOST CAMPUSES HAVE SOME EFFORTS FOR IT'S BEEN AN EVOLUTION.

WE STARTED OUT WITH BOOKS, EAGLE BOOKS, AND FOR ME, I DON'T DO WELL WITH PAPER.

AND SO COMING FROM A CORPORATE BACKGROUND, I'M USED TO PAPERLESS.

SO I WAS LIKE, IS THERE A WAY? SO I CHALLENGED MR. GRIMES. I SAID, FIND ME AN APP LIKE FIND IT OR BUILD IT.

I WAS LIKE, WE HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO TRACK THIS, TO KEEP UP WITH THIS.

OR LIKE, I CAN'T WE CAN'T KEEP SPENDING PAPER CUTTING [INAUDIBLE].

IT WAS JUST A MESS.

THE KIDS WERE KIND OF FITTING THE BOOKS AND IT JUST GOT REALLY CRAZY.

SO, YOU KNOW, AND SO HE AND I SAID, AND KEEP IT UNDER, I GAVE HIM A BUDGET.

I SAID, TRY TO KEEP IT UNDER AND SO I GUARANTEE I CAN SPEAK ON BEHALF OF PROBABLY 80% OF OUR CAMPUSES HAVE SOME SYSTEM IN PLACE, BUT IT COULD PROBABLY BE THAT THEY'RE JUST NOT AS TECH SAVVY OR HAVING JUST FOUND THE TECHNICAL OR THEY DON'T HAVE THE BUDGET TO DO IT BECAUSE IT IS COSTLY.

AND SO THIS HAS BEEN OVER A PERIOD OF FOUR OR FIVE YEARS.

I'VE BEEN IN HF STEVENS BEEN SIX YEARS.

I KNEW IN YEAR ONE WE HAD TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT WAS SYSTEMATIC FOR OUR CULTURE.

SO WE STARTED OUT WITH AGAIN, PAPER, CURRENCY, AND SO IT IS JUST EVOLVED INTO THIS.

AND SO I FEEL LIKE THAT THE COST IS RELATIVE TO YOUR ENROLLMENT.

SO WE ARE. AND WE ARE.

I'M SORRY. I'M SORRY.

BUT YEAH, WE ARE IN A PROCESS OF OF LOOKING AT WHAT THEY'RE DOING THERE AND AND LOOKING TO SCALE IT. SO I DO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SCALE FOR SURE.

KNOW THAT. YES.

CAN I ASK YOU A QUICK QUESTION? SURE. WELL, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET UP.

BUT SO THE THE TEACHERS HAVE, I GUESS WITH EIGHTH GRADERS, THEY GO TO MULTIPLE CLASSES AND THE TEACHERS HAVE THAT LIST OF ALL OF THEIR STUDENTS.

AND THEN ON THE APP. YES MA'AM.

ALL THE STUDENTS ARE LOADED. IT SPEAKS TO SKYWARD.

SO IT'S CONNECTED TO CLEVER.

SO THE STUDENTS LOG IN THROUGH CLEVER AND SO IT DUMPS THE KIDS OUT OF SKYWARD IN THERE.

SO WHEN STUDENTS ENROLL OR WITHDRAW, THEY'RE TAKEN IN AND OUT.

AND SO, YES, ALL OF THE TEACHERS ROSTERS ARE IN THERE.

SO DID HE DEVELOP THE APP OR? NO, THE APP EXISTS. PBIS REWARDS.

IT'S A COMPANY. OKAY.

OKAY, VERY NICE.

OH. THEY WANTED TO LET ME KNOW THAT WE HAVE BAGS FOR YOU THAT HAS ALL OF OUR PBI SWAG IN IT FOR YOU. OH, WELL, THANK YOU.

IT'S ALL THE BACK TO THE SEAT. WE DIDN'T GET TO OPEN THEM YET, SO THANK YOU FOR THE PBIS SWAG. WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH HF STEVENS FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT AND FOR YOUR HARD WORK.

SO THE OTHER THING THAT I BROUGHT BACK FROM SAN DIEGO IS, WHICH I DIDN'T SAY I SHOULD HAVE SAID WE SHOULD BE IN MORE OF THESE CONFERENCES AND MAYBE Y'ALL ARE AT CONFERENCES AND YOU'RE JUST NOT AT OUR CONFERENCES.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE CROWLEY REPRESENTED AT THE DIFFERENT CONFERENCES.

THAT'S NOT A DIRECTIVE, BUT I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE, BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF INNOVATIVE PRACTICES HAPPENING IN OUR DISTRICT THAT ARE NOT JUST COOL AND NEAT, BUT ACTUALLY IMPACTFUL.

AND SO I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ALL SHARING THAT WITH OUR YOU KNOW, WITH OUR FELLOW COLLEAGUES IN THE FIELD. ALL RIGHT.

THIS NOW BRINGS US TO A REPORT ITEM 5.3 HUMAN RESOURCES COMPENSATION REPORT.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MEETINGS, WE PRESENTED PARTS OF OUR HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT REPORT.

TONIGHT, WE HAVE AN ADDITIONAL SECTION.

WE HAVE DR. BARRY HERE PREPARED TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

DR. BARRY, THANK YOU.

GOOD EVENING, MADAM BOARD.

PRESIDENT. ESTEEMED BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND. TONIGHT'S HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT UPDATE ADDRESSES GOAL THREE EMPOWERED

[01:15:06]

STAFF. AS WE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A LOOK INTO OUR ONGOING EFFORTS TO RESPOND TO THE NEEDS OF OUR CAMPUS COMMUNITIES, SPECIFICALLY THOSE WHO SERVE IN THE ROLE OF PARAPROFESSIONALS.

WE'D LIKE TO BRING FORWARD TO YOU THIS EVENING THE FEEDBACK FROM OUR MOST RECENT FACE TO FACE AND SMALL GROUP MEETINGS, AS WELL AS A DISTRICT WIDE SURVEY THAT WAS COMPLETED LAST MONTH. AS YOU SEE HERE, THE FEEDBACK BROUGHT BACK THE FEEDBACK THAT WE RECEIVED BROUGHT CONSIDERATION FOR WAS HEAVILY CENTERED AROUND SALARY ADJUSTMENTS.

HOWEVER, THERE WERE SEVERAL OTHER AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN ELEVATED HERE AS WELL AND THESE INCLUDE, AS YOU NOTICE THERE SHOWN ABOVE, THERE WERE 374 RESPONDENTS IN THIS PARTICULAR SURVEY AND SALARY OBVIOUSLY WAS A HUGE AREA OF INTEREST FOR THE GROUP AND SOME OF THE OTHER AREAS THAT WERE ELEVATED INCLUDED, AS YOU SEE, HEALTH CARE CONTRIBUTIONS AND BENEFITS, AS WELL AS OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER ADVANCEMENT, ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS TO RECEIVE COMPENSATION FOR EXTRA TIME, DESIRED OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION AS WELL AS IN MANY AREAS ARE 10%.

AS YOU SEE HERE, CHILD CARE.

THERE WERE ALSO A FEW OTHER AREAS, AS NOTED UP THERE, THAT CONSISTED OF JUST THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL PLANNING TIME WITH THEIR PARTNER TEACHERS, THE ELIGIBILITY TO RECEIVE ADDITIONAL STIPENDS THAT THEY MAY NOT HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD ACCESS TO, AND INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT THEY'VE BEEN ALLOTTED FOR PERSONAL LEAVE, AS WELL AS MORE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY AND THEN PAY FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS THAT HAVE ALREADY OBTAINED A DEGREE.

AND SO DEFINITELY APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK.

WE DO HAVE A HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT TEAM THAT'S BEEN CREATED TO CONTINUE TO WORK TOWARD A COMPREHENSIVE RESPONSE TO THIS FEEDBACK.

AND SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO BRING YOU UPDATES AT THAT AS THAT TEAM GETS TOGETHER AND DEVELOPS A COMPREHENSIVE RESPONSE TO THESE NEEDS.

[INAUDIBLE] THE OTHER AREA OF TONIGHT'S UPDATE CENTERS [INAUDIBLE] THE CONTINUATION OF OUR WORK AROUND THE 2223 COMPENSATION PLAN.

THE COMPENSATION PLAN IS DIVIDED INTO A FEW SECTIONS THAT WE BEGAN BRINGING FORWARD TO YOU LAST MONTH OR AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING.

AND WITH YOUR APPROVAL, WE WERE ABLE TO PROVE, AS YOU SEE HERE, THE SERIES OF SALARY RAISES WITHIN THE STEP PLAN THAT IS NOW GOING TO BE REFLECTED IN THE 22-23 COMPENSATION PLAN THAT INCLUDES A 3.2 TO 4.4% RAISE FOR TEACHERS, NURSES AND LIBRARIANS ON THAT SCALE.

AND SO, AS YOU HEARD EARLIER, YOUR GRACIOUS APPROVAL HAS BEEN VERY INSTRUMENTAL AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR EFFORTS TOWARD EARLY RECRUITMENT OF NEW EMPLOYEES, AS EVIDENCED BY THE OUTSTANDING TURNOUT THAT WE HAD THIS PAST WEEKEND AT THE JOURNEY FAIR.

AND WE'VE ACTUALLY SINCE BEEN SINCE THEN ALREADY TO TWO ADDITIONAL FAIRS WHERE WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHEPHERD ON IN A FEW MORE FOLKS.

SO BETWEEN AS YOU HEARD, BETWEEN THE FORMAL CONTRACTS AND LETTERS OF INTENT, WE HAD OVER 20 INDIVIDUALS THAT WE ARE ABLE TO BRING IN TO CROWLEY ISD IN THE LAST FEW DAYS.

AND SO TONIGHT, BOARD, WE WOULD LIKE TO BRING FOR YOUR REVIEW AND OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS COMPENSATION SPECIFICALLY FOR OUR PARAPROFESSIONAL AUXILIARY AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.

IN THESE AREAS.

WE'LL BE BRINGING BACK FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION A 3.5 RAISE FOR APPROXIMATELY 580 PARAPROFESSIONALS AND AUXILIARY STAFF, AND A 3% RAISE FOR APPROXIMATELY 280 PROFESSIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.

THIS WILL BE AT THE COST OF THE DISTRICT OF A LITTLE OVER $4.8 MILLION COMBINED BOARD.

WE ALSO WANT TO NOTE THAT WE'RE AWARE THAT THE DISTRICT RAISES ARE NOT ALWAYS INCLUSIVE OF OUR CONTRACTED EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING OUR CUSTODIAL STAFF, ARAMARK AND TRANSPORTATION.

HOWEVER, WE WILL BE IN NEGOTIATIONS WITH THOSE PARTNERS AND THOSE WILL BE SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSED IN THEIR 20 TO 23 CONTRACT CONTRACTS WITH THEIR EMPLOYERS.

AND AGAIN, WE LOOK FORWARD TO BRINGING BACK FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION IN THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.

YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE 3.5% AND 3% RAISE FOR OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS, AUXILIARY AND PROFESSIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.

[01:20:01]

AND I WELCOME ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE AT THIS TIME.

THANK YOU. DR. BARRY, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? TRUSTEE RAY.

I'M JUST WONDERING, DO YOU KNOW WHAT? WITH THE RACE FOR THE PARIS, WHAT THE I GUESS THE MINIMUM WAGE WOULD BE IN THE DISTRICT.

SO I'M NOT FOR SURE OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD WITH THE MINIMUM WAGE OR AVERAGE WOULD BE, BUT I CAN DEFINITELY GET THAT TO YOU.

SO THEY'RE ON A VARIETY OF PAY GRADES, BUT I WOULD DEFINITELY GET THAT TO YOU.

OKAY. YEAH, I'D JUST LIKE TO SEE.

ABSOLUTELY. YES, SIR.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR DR.

BERRY? SO DR.

BERRY, ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONAL, IF IT WAS 3.1%, WHAT WOULD THAT NUMBER BE? THE SIX, SIX, SIX IS SO OMINOUS.

DON'T Y'ALL THINK SO. I LIKE THAT.

IT WAS A LITTLE HARD.

I MEAN, 3.05%.

JUST CHANGE IT.

AT YOUR REQUEST, WE WILL DEFINITELY REEVALUATE THAT AND I'M SURE THERE WILL BE MANY VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THOSE EFFORTS.

SO WE CAN DEFINITELY BRING YOU BACK A RANGE.

AND THAT IS WELL, I APPRECIATE IT.

IT'S JUST, YOU KNOW, WE'RE NOT FOND OF SIX, SIX, SIX.

YES, MA'AM? ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR DR.

BARRY? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPORT TONIGHT.

THIS NOW BRINGS US TO OUR OPEN FORUM.

WE ALSO DID HAVE TWO OTHER INDIVIDUALS, BUT THEY SUBMITTED THEIR REQUESTS AFTER THE 5:00 DEADLINE. BUT OUR FIRST SPEAKER WHO SIGNED UP TONIGHT IS MISS ITALIA DE LA CRUZ.

MS. DE LA CRUZ. OKAY.

I DON'T BELIEVE THIS MS. DE LA CRUZ IS IN ATTENDANCE.

OKAY. OUR NEXT SPEAKER, THEN WOULD BE MS. DIANA [INAUDIBLE].

MS. SAN RAMON.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD. I'M DIANA ACOSTA, MOTHER TO DIANA [INAUDIBLE].

AND SHE GOT VERY NERVOUS AND SCARED, SO SHE WANTED ME TO READ HER COMMENT.

SO I'M GOING TO DO THIS FOR HER.

SHE WROTE, GOOD EVENING, BOARD.

MY NAME IS DIANA [INAUDIBLE].

I AM A CROWLEY ISD PARENT, AND I'M HERE TONIGHT TO SPEAK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT I HAVE SEEN SINCE 2018.

TILL NOW. I USED TO BE A PARENT THAT WAS PROUD TO HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME MOVING TO THIS DISTRICT INTO TEXAS.

SINCE THE PANDEMIC, I'VE NOTICED THAT SO MUCH IS GOING WRONG HERE IN CROWLEY ISD THE WAY THINGS THAT ARE HANDLED THAT ARE VERY UPSETTING.

I SAT THROUGH MANY SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS HOPING FOR CHANGE, BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING HAPPEN YET.

WHEN WE WENT TO ASK QUESTIONS TO THE SCHOOL BOARD, THEY NEVER ANSWERED ME.

I WANTED TO SEE THE CHANGE IN HOW OUR SCHOOL BOARD HANDLES PARENTS.

I WANTED TO SEE THEM NOT BE AFRAID.

US PARENTS JUST WANT WHAT'S BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE.

WE ALSO WANT TO SEE MORE AWARD CEREMONIES FOR THE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS THAT WORK REALLY HARD IN THE SCHOOL CAMPUS AND SO THAT THE CHILDREN WILL HAVE MOTIVATION TO IMPROVE IN THE SCHOOL. SO THIS WAS WHAT SHE WAS CONCERNED WITH, AND SHE WANTED ME TO SHARE THIS WITH

[01:25:05]

YOU. AND THEN MY CONCERN IS JUST A LITTLE BIT.

I AM ALSO RUNNING FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD.

MY NAME IS DIANA ACOSTA.I DO WANT TO THANK THE BOARD FOR GIVING ME A CHANCE TO SPEAK HERE THIS EVENING.

THANK YOU. THIS CONCLUDES PUBLIC COMMENT, AND WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A BRIEF FIVE MINUTE RECESS.

SO WE'RE GOING TO ADJOURN FOR A FIVE MINUTE RECESS AT 7:31 P.M..

WE ARE BACK IN SESSION AT 738.

AGENDA ITEM 7.1 CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK SECTION FOUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS 16 DR.

[7.0 Discussion and / or Possible Action Item(s)]

MCFARLAND.

MR. VICE PRESIDENT, BOARD AND BOARD MEMBERS.

WE HAVE MS. FISCHER PREPARED TO ADDRESS THE ITEM CONCERNING CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK.

EXCUSE ME, MR. FISCHER.

MR. FISCHER HERE IS PREPARED TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

MR. FISCHER. THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. JUST MESS ME ALL UP.

GOOD EVENING, MR. VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND. TONIGHT, I WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK RECOMMENDATION FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 16.

BUT BEFORE I DO THAT, I REALLY LIKE TO JUST TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO GO OVER THE ACRONYM, WHAT IT MEANS, CMAR.

YOU GUYS HAVE HEARD US REFERRING TO THE SEYMOUR.

AND JUST TO REVISIT THAT FOR A BRIEF MOMENT SO THAT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME UNDERSTANDING.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK IS ACTUALLY A DELIVERY METHOD FOR CONSTRUCTION.

OUR BOARD HAS DECIDED LONG AGO THAT THIS WAS THE PREFERRED METHOD FOR CONSTRUCTION IN OUR DISTRICT, AND I WANTED TO REALLY TALK ABOUT THE WHY.

AS YOU'LL SEE, THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER RISK DELIVERY METHOD TRANSFERS THE RISK OF THE PROJECT, COST OVERRUNS FROM THE DISTRICT TO THE CONTRACTOR.

YOU'VE HEARD AND BOARD, YOU'VE APPROVED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE GUARANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE. AND SO ANY TIME THAT IN A IN A SIMILAR AGREEMENT, THE GUARANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE IS THE PRICE THAT IS SET FOR THE PROJECT IN ANY TIME.

IF WE DON'T CHANGE THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT, ANY TIME WE EXCEED THAT, THE RISK OF THE OVERAGE IS ACTUALLY TRANSFERRED TO THE CONTRACTOR.

SO THAT IS ONE OF THE PRIMARY BENEFITS.

BUT ALSO THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER IS ACTUALLY ENGAGED IN THE PROCESS MUCH EARLIER.

HE'S ENGAGED IN THE OR THEY ARE ENGAGED IN THE DESIGN PROCESS MUCH EARLIER.

WE BELIEVE THAT HAS A COST CONTAINMENT COMPONENT TO IT.

HE'LL THAT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER WILL ACT AS A CONSULTANT IN THE DESIGN PHASE, REVIEWING THE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS.

AND THE MORE THINGS THAT WE CATCH IN THAT PHASE, THE LESS COST THAT WILL BE UNPREDICTABLE, IF YOU WILL, GOING FORWARD AND THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK AND ALSO ASSIST AND VALUE ENGINEERING IN THOSE EARLY PHASES.

AND SO THAT IS REALLY THE PRIMARY BENEFITS OF THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK DELIVERY METHOD. AND SO WE HAVE COMPLETED OUR EVALUATION PROCESS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS THAT SUBMITTED RFQ REQUESTS FOR QUALIFICATIONS TO OUR DISTRICT.

THERE WERE FOUR RESPONDENTS, BALFOUR BEATTY, CORE IMPERIAL AND STEEL FREEMAN.

IN STEP ONE, WE ACTUALLY ENGAGED IN A TWO STEP PROCESS.

IN STEP ONE, WE REVIEWED THEIR REQUESTS FOR QUALIFICATIONS.

WE TOOK A LOOK AT THEIR EXPERIENCE, THEIR GENERAL EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY AND THE NORTH TEXAS MARKET. BUT MOST SPECIFICALLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE REVIEWED EACH FIRM'S EXPERIENCE IN K THROUGH 12 CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AS THE CMAR.

WE REVIEWED THEIR TECHNICAL COMPETENCE.

[01:30:02]

WERE THEY ABLE TO GENERATE A CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE FOR US BASED ON THE PARAMETERS THAT WE IDENTIFIED IN THE REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS? WE WANTED TO SEE THE TECHNOLOGY THAT THEY WERE USING TO MODEL THE PROJECTS AND TO MANAGE THE PROJECTS AND THE PROJECT COSTS.

WE REVIEWED EACH OF THE FIRMS K THROUGH 12 EXPERIENCE AS WE TALKED ABOUT AND MOST SPECIFICALLY THEIR EXPERIENCE IN OPERATING AS A CMAR AS A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK.

WE ALSO REVIEWED THEIR CAPABILITY TO FORM, WHICH CONSISTED OF REVIEWING ANY EXISTING LITIGATION WITH THAT FIRM OR AGAINST THAT FIRM.

WE LOOKED AT THEIR FINANCIALS AND WE ALSO CONTACTED REFERENCES.

LASTLY, WE LOOKED AT THEIR PAST PERFORMANCE OF THEIR PROJECT TEAM, SPECIFICALLY THE INDIVIDUALS ON THEIR PROJECT TEAM.

THAT MAKES A TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE.

IT'S REALLY ALWAYS ABOUT THE PEOPLE, BUT THEIR PROJECT TEAM AND THE NUMBER OF K THROUGH 12 PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE HAD SOME EXPERIENCE WITH SEVERAL OF THESE VENDORS.

THE MEMBERS OF THEIR PROJECT TEAM.

SO THEIR PAST EXPERIENCE WITH THE CISD WAS ALSO IMPORTANT.

STEP TWO WAS TO REVIEW THEIR GENERAL CONDITION SUBMISSIONS AND, INTERVIEW WITH THESE RESPECTIVE VENDORS.

GENERAL CONDITIONS, OBVIOUSLY, AS YOU KNOW, BOARD IS THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FEES AND THEN SEVERAL OF THE OTHER ANCILLARY FEES, SITE MANAGEMENT FEES, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, TRASH REMOVAL, MATERIAL HANDLING.

AND WITHIN THAT INTERVIEW, WE WERE VERY SPECIFIC IN HAVING THE PARTICULAR VENDOR TO IDENTIFY THEIR PROJECT TEAMS THAT WOULD BE WORKING ON OUR PROJECT.

WE ALSO WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE STRESSED OUR EMPHASIS ON MINORITY AND WOMEN ON BUSINESS PARTICIPATION IN THAT PROCESS.

AND WE ASK THOSE VENDORS TO SPEAK TO THEIR COMMITMENT TO CROWLEY ISD.

AND AFTER COMPLETING THAT EVALUATION PROCESS, THE COMMITTEE HAS SELECTED AND WILL BE RECOMMENDING TO YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE APPROVAL.

THE STEEL FREEMAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY.

AND WHY? BECAUSE THEY'VE DELIVERED PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN ON TIME AND UNDER BUDGET.

THOSE PROJECTS EXHIBIT THE FUNCTIONAL, STRUCTURAL AND ESTHETIC EXCELLENCE THAT WE WERE ALLUDING TO EARLIER WHEN WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE EXCELLENCE IN OUR MISSION STATEMENT.

AND THEY'VE DEMONSTRATED A DEDICATION TO COST SAVINGS WITH THE DISTRICT'S PRODUCT PROJECTS, AS EVIDENCED BY THE TWO MULTIPURPOSE FACILITIES THAT WE NOW HAVE THAT WERE NOT INITIALLY PLANNED.

BUT THROUGH THE JUDICIOUS MANAGEMENT OF THE FUNDING, WE WERE ABLE TO DO THOSE TWO PROJECTS AND ALSO THE AVIATION HANGAR AT THE THE CTE CENTER.

SO THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS, I WILL ANSWER THOSE NOW.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? THANK YOU BOARD.

I HAVE A QUESTION, BUT IT'S MORE OF A COMMENT AS WELL WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE CMAR.

YES, MA'AM. I'M REMEMBERING BEFORE WE HAD THAT AND WHAT THAT PROCESS LOOKED LIKE, AND IT WAS ALWAYS VERY FRUSTRATING AND AGGRAVATING BECAUSE THEY WERE CONSTANTLY COMING BACK WITH AND I CANNOT REMEMBER WHAT THEY'RE CALLED NOW.

CHANGE ORDERS. CHANGE ORDERS.

AND THAT WAS ALWAYS VERY, VERY FRUSTRATING AND AGGRAVATING.

SO I'M REALLY GLAD WE'RE STAYING WITH THIS CMAR PROCESS NOW BECAUSE IT ELIMINATES ALL OF THAT. YES, MA'AM. ABSOLUTELY.

FISCHER. THANK YOU, SIR. OH, AND THIS IS AN ACTION ITEM.

EXCELLENT. DO WE HAVE A MOTION? I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORD THIS, THAT WE APPROVED THE HIRING OF STEEL AND FREEMAN AS THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 16.

IS THERE A SECOND? I SECOND.

A MOTION BY MR. RAY AND A SECOND BY MS. DAVIS. CAN WE GET A VOTE?

[01:35:07]

I THINK MINE'S UNDER.

DR. HALL. I NEED TO.

BUT ACCIDENT.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

AND I'M EXCITED FOR STEEL FREEMAN.

OKAY WHICH BRINGS US TO.

7.1. AGENDA ITEM 7.1 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS.

DR. MCFARLAND.

MR. VICE PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, [INAUDIBLE] IS HERE TO ADDRESS THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS.

MR. KIRCHNER, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR.

MCFARLAND, AS YOU ALL KNOW, LAST MONTH WE REVIEWED WHAT WE'RE BEEN WORKING ON, OUR MINOR BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS TO SOME OF OUR ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE ZONES.

THIS IS TO NOT ONLY RESPOND, BUT ALSO PLAN FOR THE CONTINUED GROWTH THAT'S HAPPENING ACROSS OUR DISTRICT.

WE KNOW ELEMENTARY 16 IS COMING DOWN THE PIPELINE, BUT UNTIL WE GET THERE, WE DO HAVE SOME SCHOOLS THAT WE NEEDED TO MAKE THESE MINOR BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS.

WE HELD TWO TOWN HALL MEETINGS VIA ZOOM LAST WEEK WHERE WE TALKED WITH PARENTS ABOUT OUR TOP FOUR PRIORITIES IN THIS PROCESS, AND THAT IS TO PREVENT CROWDED CLASSROOMS, PROMOTE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS TO PLAN FOR GROWTH, BUT ALSO PRIORITIZE MINIMIZING CHANGE FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. WE WANT TO MAKE THIS PROCESS AS EASY AS POSSIBLE AS WE PLAN FOR THIS CONTINUED GROWTH IN CROWLEY ISD.

AND SO LAST MONTH WE WENT THROUGH THOSE PROPOSED ADJUSTMENTS.

YOU CAN SEE THEM THERE IN YOUR EXHIBIT.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF THOSE, WE'D BE HAPPY TO GO THROUGH THEM AGAIN.

AND IF APPROVED, THESE WOULD BE EFFECTIVE FOR THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR.

AND WE WILL ALSO BE COMMUNICATING THESE CHANGES WITH PARENTS BY MAIL.

WE KNOW EMAILS DON'T ALWAYS GET THROUGH AND PHOTOS ALWAYS GET THROUGH, BUT WE'LL BE SENDING LETTERS HOME AND BACKPACKS AND THROUGH THE POSTAL SERVICE TO LET PARENTS KNOW IF THESE NEW CHANGES PASS.

AND SO THEY CAN PLAN BECAUSE ALSO THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS WHO CHOOSE TO STAY AT THEIR CURRENT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, TO REQUEST TO STAY THERE THROUGH THE TRANSFER PROCESS. AND SO WE'LL PROVIDE ALL THE INFORMATION FOR THOSE PARENTS.

AND TONIGHT, I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR GO THROUGH ANY OF THOSE BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS WITH YOU.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? I HAVE ONE OF THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS.

WHAT? WHAT WAS THE, I GUESS THE OUTCOME OR THE BIGGEST CONCERNS OR ANYTHING? YES, SIR. THE BIGGEST CONCERNS WERE WHAT DO WE DO IF WE ARE HAPPY AT OUR CURRENT SCHOOL? WE WANT TO STAY THERE. AND SO WE PROVIDED THAT INFORMATION ON HOW TO REQUEST THE TRANSFER. AND WE ARE LIKE WE MADE IT VERY CLEAR OUR GOAL IS TO MINIMIZE CHANGE FOR FAMILIES. AND SO IF WE'RE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE THAT CHANGE, WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE WE WANT TO DO THAT. AND SO WE SHARED WITH THOSE FAMILIES AND WE'LL SEND THIS INFORMATION HOME AND THOSE LETTERS. THAT TRANSFER PROCESS OPENS UP MAY 30TH AND IS OPEN THROUGH JUNE 12TH.

AND WE ALSO TOLD THEM OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THEY'RE ABLE TO PLAN. BUT THERE WERE NO MAJOR CONCERNS RAISED VIA THOSE TOWN HALLS ABOUT THE CHANGES TO THE BOUNDARIES.

I THINK EVERYONE UNDERSTOOD, ESPECIALLY WITH THAT JUNE W.

DAVIS WE LOOKED AT THAT WAS SO LARGE.

IT WAS LARGE WHEN THE SCHOOL FIRST OPENED AND JUST NOW IT'S ONE OF OUR MOST CROWDED CAMPUSES. SO THE COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDS THE NEED FOR THIS AND IS REALLY APPRECIATIVE THAT WE'RE DOING THIS NOW AND NOT WAITING UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION, MR. GRASSIA. DID YOU SAY YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE? WE DON'T HAVE ONE PLANNED.

WHAT WE WILL DO WHEN WE SEND OUT THAT LETTER TO PARENTS, WE'RE GOING TO PROVIDE THEM HOW TO CONTACT US IF THERE'S MORE INFORMATION OR QUESTIONS.

AND IF WE SEE THERE'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS COMING IN, WE'LL DO ANOTHER TOWNHALL.

BUT WE DID THOSE TWO LAST WEEK.

BUT IF WE NEED TO DO ANOTHER ONE, WE DEFINITELY WILL.

WELL, ALL RIGHT. THIS IS A POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.

IS THERE A MOTION? I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS EFFECTIVE FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY MS. DAVIS OR A SECOND.

A SECOND BY ROBINSON.

I'M SORRY. MS. ROBINSON MAY VOTE.

THE VOTE PASSES UNANIMOUSLY, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEW BOUNDARIES.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THAT BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM 7.3 TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS RISK MANAGEMENT FUND INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT MODIFICATIONS.

[01:40:02]

DR. MCFARLAND.

MR. VICE PRESIDENT, WE HAVE MR. FISHER HERE TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM CONCERNING OUR INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT.

THANK YOU, SIR. MR. VICE PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

DR. MCFARLAND, AGAIN, I COME TO YOU TONIGHT WITH A RECOMMENDATION FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION.

THIS IS THE AMENDING, IF YOU WILL, OF THE LANGUAGE IN THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS RISK MANAGEMENT FUND, INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT.

THEY'VE CHANGED A COUPLE OF COMPONENTS OF THEIR VERBIAGE.

SPECIFICALLY, THE COORDINATOR POSITION IS NOW REQUIRED TO BE AN EMPLOYEE AND CLARIFIES THAT THE FUND WILL NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE THIRD PARTY ABOUT CLAIMS UNLESS IT IS AN ATTORNEY. THE WAIVER AND ESTOPPEL LANGUAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED.

A MEMBER IS REQUIRED TO MAKE AN APPEAL TO THE FUND, BOARD AND MEDIATION IN TRAVIS COUNTY BEFORE LITIGATION ALSO REQUIRES SUIT AGAINST THE FUND TO BE BROUGHT IN TRAVIS COUNTY.

AND THE LAST MODIFICATION IS THAT THE NEW LANGUAGE SAYS THAT A MEMBER CANNOT ASSIST BENEFITS OF COVERAGE TO A THIRD PARTY.

CANNOT ASSIGN, I'M SORRY, BENEFITS OF COVERAGE TO A THIRD PARTY SUCH AS AN ATTORNEY OR PUBLIC ADJUSTER.

IF THE MEMBER MAKES THE ASSIGNMENT, THE FUND DOES NOT HAVE TO PAY THE CLAIM UNTIL THE AGREEMENT IS TERMINATED.

CONTINGENT FEES ARE NOT ALLOWED.

SO WE ARE PRESENTING THIS TO THE BOARD BECAUSE TASB WOULD LIKE FOR THIS TO BE APPROVED BY THE BOARD BY MAY 31ST.

IT IS A REQUIREMENT THAT IS THIS IS SIGNIFICANT TO OUR DISTRICT BECAUSE WE HAVE OUR AUTO AND GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE WITH THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS.

THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? NOW. WELL, THIS IS A POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.

SO IS THERE A MOTION? I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS AMENDED INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY MS. ROBINSON. IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND THE MOTION SECOND BY MR. RAY. MOVED TO VOTE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY AND.

COOL. WE ARE NOW ONTO FUTURE ACTION ITEMS.

[8.0 Future Action Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 8.1 FOOD SERVICE VENDOR CONTRACT.

DR. MCFARLAND. MR. VICE PRESIDENT. BOARD MEMBERS, THIS NEXT ITEM IS SIMPLY A FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

THERE WILL BE NO REQUEST FOR ACTION TONIGHT.

BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT TO YOU THE FOOD SERVICE VENDOR CONTRACT.

MS. [INAUDIBLE] POWERS WILL REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

MS.. POWERS THANK YOU, DR.

MCFARLAND. GOOD EVENING, MR. VICE PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

AS DR. MCFARLAND ALLUDED, THIS IS FUTURE ACTION.

IT'S REGARDING OUR FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT PROVIDER, WHICH IS ARAMARK.

AS YOU KNOW, THE CURRENT OPTION YEAR WILL BE EXPIRING AT THE END OF JUNE 2022.

THE DISTRICT HAS ELECTED TO EXERCISE OPTION YEAR TWO WITH THE VENDOR ARAMARK, WHICH WILL START ON JULY ONE OF 2022.

AND OF COURSE, WE HAVE TO BRING THIS BEFORE THE BOARD FOR APPROVAL, WHICH WILL DO AT THE END OF APRIL TO TAKE THE NEXT OPTIONAL YEAR PER TEA THE GUARANTEED RETURN FOR FISCAL YEAR 22-23 IS 1.6 MILLION.

WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH ARAMARK TO RECEIVE AND REVIEW THE 2022 2023 PRICING.

AND IT WILL BE IT WILL BE BROUGHT BACK BEFORE THE BOARD WITH DETAIL AGAIN AT THE END OF THIS MONTH.

AND BECAUSE THERE'S NO ACTION AT THIS TIME THAT IS NEEDED, I'LL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? WELL, IF THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS, WE LOOK FORWARD TO VOTING THIS MONTH.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

WHICH BRINGS US TO THE AGENDA ITEM 8.2 CUSTODIAL VENDOR CONTRACTS.

DR. MCFARLAND MR. VICE PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

MS. POWERS WILL ALSO BE ADDRESSING THE CUSTODIAL VENDOR CONTRACT AS POWERS.

[01:45:02]

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

AND AGAIN, GOOD EVENING, MR. VICE PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

THIS IS FUTURE ACTION, AND IT'S REGARDING THE CUSTODIAL SERVICE PROVIDER, WHICH IS ABM.

THIS RFP ALLOWS FOR THE AWARDED VENDOR TO NEGOTIATE PRICE INCREASES AFTER YEAR ONE.

SO WE ARE GOING INTO YEAR TWO OF THIS RFP.

SO ABM WILL BE PROVIDING US A PROPOSED PRICING THAT IS GOING TO BE EVALUATED AND BROUGHT BACK TO THE BOARD AT THE END OF APRIL 2022.

THERE IS NO ACTION NEEDED AT THIS TIME, BUT I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE FOR ME RIGHT NOW. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. WHICH BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM 8.3.

PROPOSED CALENDAR MODIFICATIONS FOR 2020 2023 SCHOOL YEAR AT DAVID L.

WALKER ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE CREEK ELEMENTARY.

J. HARGRAVE ELEMENTARY AND MARY HARRIS ELEMENTARY.

DR. MCFARLAND. SO, MR. VICE PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, AS YOU ALL REMEMBER, SEVERAL YEARS AGO, WE VOTED TO BECOME A DISTRICT OF INNOVATION.

ALSO, TWO YEARS AGO, WE ACTUALLY ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM OF GREAT SCHOOLS NETWORK.

BOTH OF THESE MOVES BY YOU SEVERAL YEARS AGO ALLOWED US, AFFORDED US THE OPPORTUNITY TO REALLY INNOVATE AND GET CREATIVE IN HOW WE OFFER EDUCATION IN CROWLEY ISD.

AND SO, AS YOU REMEMBER WITH HARGRAVE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, WE IMPLEMENTED THE ACE MODEL. AND THEN YOU ALSO REMEMBER THAT WITH DAVID WALKER, WE IMPLEMENTED AN [INAUDIBLE] MODEL. AS WE CONTINUE TO LEARN FROM OUR PRIOR IMPLEMENTATIONS, WE BEGIN TO LOOK AT OTHER WAYS WE CAN MODIFY CALENDARS AND MODIFY SYSTEMS AT OTHER SCHOOLS.

AND SO TONIGHT, WE WILL PRESENT TO YOU A PROPOSED CALENDAR MODIFICATION THAT WILL ALLOW US TO INNOVATE AT SEVERAL OTHER OF OUR OTHER CAMPUSES IN OUR DISTRICT.

OUR DR. CLARENCE WILLIAMS WILL BE PRESENTING THIS ITEM AGAIN.

THIS IS AN INFORMATION ITEM TONIGHT.

WE'LL ASK FOR QUESTIONS AND WE'LL BE PREPARED TO ACT AT THE AT A FUTURE BOARD MEETING.

DR. WILLIAMS, GOOD EVENING.

VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA BOARD MEMBERS AND DR.

MCFARLAND TONIGHT I'M HERE TO PRESENT A PROPOSED CALENDAR MODIFICATION FOR THE 2022 2023 ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS ALIGNS WITH BOARD GOALS ONE THRIVING STUDENTS IN [INAUDIBLE] THREE IN POWER STAFF.

TONIGHT WE WILL LOOK AT THE MODIFICATION FOR FOUR CAMPUSES.

DAVID WALKER, JA HARGRAVE, MIDDLE CREEK ELEMENTARY AND MARY HARRIS ELEMENTARY.

ALSO I HAVE TONIGHT WITH ME THE PRIOR PRINCIPALS OF EACH ONE OF THESE CAMPUSES HERE TO SHARE WITH YOU THE WHY BEHIND THE MODIFICATIONS TO THE CALENDARS.

THESE CHANGES ALLOW FOR US AS A DISTRICT TO IMPLEMENT INNOVATIVE, TRANSFORMATIVE SCHOOL PRACTICES THAT INCREASE INSTRUCTIONAL TIME FOR OUR STUDENTS, AS WELL AS BUILD TEACHER CAPACITY TO ENSURE THE DELIVERY OF AN EXECUTION OF HIGH DELIVERY INSTRUCTION.

BEFORE I BRING UP TO EACH PRINCIPAL, I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOU A HIGH LEVEL SUMMARY OF EACH OF THE MODIFICATIONS FOR EACH CAMPUS.

HERE ARE THE SLIDES ABOVE.

YOU'LL SEE THAT DAVID WALKER WILL HAVE ADDITIONAL DAY SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR WITH THE STAFF RETURNING ON JULY 9TH, THE STUDENTS RETURNING JULY 14TH, AND THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WILL BE JUNE 9TH. THAT ALLOWS US TO HAVE 30 ADDITIONAL DAYS AND THEN THE TEACHERS WILL HAVE 14 DAYS BRINGING THEIR WORK CALENDAR TO 217 DAYS.

MEADOW CREEK WILL BE MEADOW CREEK WILL HAVE A SIMILAR THE SIMILAR [INAUDIBLE] OR ADDITIONAL DAY SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR WITH THE STAFF COMING BACK IN JULY 9TH, JULY 14TH, JUNE 9TH FOR THE END OF THE YEAR WITH 30 ADDITIONAL DAYS TO THEIR CALENDAR AS WELL AS 14 DAYS AND 217 DAYS.

THOSE TWO CAMPUSES WILL BE WORKING TOGETHER AS THEY COLLABORATE TO SHARE SOME OF THOSE BEST PRACTICES THAT WE HAVE SEEN AT DAVID WALKER THIS YEAR.

WELL, YOU SEE, JA HARGRAVE, LIKE DR.

MCFARLAND SHARED WITH YOU, THAT WAS OUR ACE DEMONSTRATION DESIGN CAMPUS THERE, IMPLEMENTING SOMETHING CALLED THE SUMMER JUMPSTART CALENDAR, WHERE THE STAFF WILL RETURN JULY 23RD.

STUDENTS WILL REPORT ON AUGUST 1ST WITH THE LAST DAY MIRRORING THE [INAUDIBLE] END OF THE DAY, WHICH IS JUNE 9TH.

THAT ALLOWS FOR 22 ADDITIONAL DAYS, AS WELL AS 22 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR STAFF, BRINGING THEIR WORK CALENDAR TO 217 DAYS.

FOR MARY HARRIS, THEY WILL BE FOLLOWING THE TRADITIONAL CALENDAR WITH EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEIR STUDENTS.

STUDENTS WERE STAFF WILL RETURN AUGUST 1ST AND THE STUDENTS WILL RETURN AUGUST 11TH WITH THE TRADITIONAL CALENDAR AND END THE YEAR IN MAY 25TH AS THE TRADITIONAL CALENDAR.

WHAT THEY'RE ADDING IS EIGHT ADDITIONAL DAYS WITH 24 ADDITIONAL DAYS BRINGING THEIR WORK CALENDAR TO 205 DAYS FOR THEIR FOR THAT CAMPUS.

[01:50:02]

NOW HERE TO SHARE WITH YOU, I HAVE INTRODUCED MS. MONTGOMERY, MS. TANYA COLEMAN, [INAUDIBLE] AND [INAUDIBLE]BELL THAT WILL SHARE THE WIRE BEHIND MS. MONTGOMERY. GOOD EVENING, VICE PRESIDENT, DR.

MCFARLAND AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

MY NAME IS MS. MONTGOMERY.

I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF DAVID L WALKER ELEMENTARY AT THE ACCELERATED LEARNING ACADEMY.

WE STARTED SCHOOL LAST LAST SUMMER IN JULY.

WE OPENED UP OUR DOORS IN JULY.

AND DUE TO THE ACCELERATED LEARNING ACADEMY, WE HAVE SEEN TREMENDOUS GROWTH FROM ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. 100% OF OUR THIRD THROUGH FIFTH GRADERS HAVE MET THEIR STAAR TARGET GOAL ON THEIR SPRING BENCHMARK.

DUE TO THE ACCELERATED LEARNING ACADEMY, WE WERE ABLE TO OFFER SOME ENGAGING ACTIVITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS. WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THEM TO KIDZANIA, WHERE THEY LEARNED ABOUT MONEY MARKETING, MANAGEMENT AND BUDGETING.

WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO TAKE THEM TO MAIN STATE FARM, WHERE THEY WERE ABLE TO ENGAGE IN THEIR SCIENCE TEKS. WE HAVE SEVERAL TRIPS PLANNED FOR THEM AND THE GOAL WITH WALKER IS THAT I WANTED THE STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO LEARN INSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM, BUT THEN BE ABLE TO GO EXPLORE WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING.

AND SO WE ARE EXCITED THAT WE ARE CONTINUING TO DO THAT DUE TO EXTENDING OUR SCHOOL YEAR.

AS WE CONTINUE TO GROW OUR PARENT CAPACITY AND OUR STUDENT CAPACITY, WE HAVE WHAT'S CALLED WARRIOR TALKS AT SCHOOL.

AND SO OUR STUDENTS CREATE GOALS, ACADEMIC GOALS FOR THEMSELVES AND THEY HAVE THAT CONVERSATION WITH THE PARENTS AND THE TEACHER AFTER SCHOOL AND THEY TALK ABOUT THEIR MAP, STATE OF THEIR STAR GOALS.

AND SO THE STUDENTS AND THE PARENTS LEAVE EMPOWERED WITH KNOWING WHAT THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THEIR STUDENTS WILL BE AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND WHAT THEY NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO GET THEM THERE. WE GIVE THEM INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES AND WE ALSO GIVE THEM STRATEGIES TO USE AT HOME.

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE [INAUDIBLE], SO ADDING THESE FOUR SATURDAYS TO THE CALENDAR WILL ALLOW US TO HAVE THE WARRIOR TALKS ON SATURDAYS.

MANY OF OUR PARENTS WORK THROUGH THE WEEK SO THE WONDERFUL AND DEDICATED WALKER STAFF STAYS UNTIL LIKE 7:00 MEETING WITH ALL OF OUR PARENTS.

BUT IF WE ROLL THESE FOUR SATURDAYS INTO OUR CALENDAR, WE'LL BE ABLE TO MEET WITH ALL OF OUR PARENTS IN ONE DAY.

AND WE DO MEET WITH OUR PARENTS AT THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR SO THAT THEY KNOW HOW THEIR STUDENTS STARTED AND HOW THEY ENDED.

SO WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT [INAUDIBLE] AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO SEE THE RESULTS AT THE END OF OUR SCHOOL YEAR.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] TANYA COLE.

GOOD EVENING. GOOD EVENING, MR. VICE PRESIDENT.

DR. MCFARLAND AND THE SCHOOL BOARD.

MY NAME IS TANYA COLEMAN, AND I AM THE PROUD PRINCIPAL OF MEADOW CREEK ELEMENTARY.

I HAVE BEEN AT METAL CREEK FOUR YEARS AND WE ARE A NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL.

WE SERVE AS PRE-K THREE TO FIFTH GRADE.

SO WE HAVE ONE OF THE LARGEST POPULATION OF PRE-K STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT.

I AM EXCITED TO BRING THE [INAUDIBLE] MODEL TO MEADOW CREEK BECAUSE IN SPEAKING WITH OUR TEACHERS, OUR STAFF, OUR FAMILIES, IT IS A MODEL THAT CAN BENEFIT OUR STUDENTS AND HELP OUR STUDENTS GROW.

AND I'M LOOKING BRIEFLY DOWN AT MY NOTES, DR.

MCFARLAND WE TOO, WILL BE COLLABORATING WITH DAVID L.

WALKER. I WENT TO DAVID WALKER THIS WEEK AND HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO PRINCIPAL MONTGOMERY AND TEAM TO SEE SOME OF THE STRATEGIES AND THE STRUCTURES THAT THEY HAVE IN PLACE.

I'M EXCITED.

MY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND MYSELF, WE CAME BACK.

WE'RE LIKE, WE'RE IMPLEMENTING THIS, THIS, THIS, THIS.

AND MONTGOMERY IS LIKE, OKAY, OKAY, WE CAN DO THIS.

SO I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE TWO SCHOOLS SO THAT WE CAN SEE OUR STUDENTS SUCCEED.

SHE'S IMPLEMENTING WARRIOR TALKS.

I'M IMPLEMENTING MUSTANG TALKS.

SO WE'RE DOING WE WILL BE DOING A LOT OF THE SAME STRUCTURES FROM THAT WE'RE SEEING IMPLEMENTED AT DAVID L.

WALKER AT MEADOW CREEK.

AND I'M SO EXCITED THAT OUR FAMILIES, TOO, WILL BE ABLE TO GAIN THAT EXPERIENCE.

SO I APPRECIATE YOU LISTENING TO ME AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, DR.

MCFARLAND HAS THOSE.

THANK YOU. ROXY [INAUDIBLE] FROM [INAUDIBLE].

GOOD EVENING, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DR.

MCFARLAND. I AM ROXIE [INAUDIBLE].

I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF ACE DEMONSTRATION AND DESIGN LAB AT J.A HARGRAVE ELEMENTARY.

ONE OF THE THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH YOU THIS EVENING IS ABOUT OUR WHY AND WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR THE MODIFIED CALENDAR.

ONE REASON IS WE HAVE MADE SUCH SIGNIFICANT GAINS AT J.A HARGRAVE THAT WE WANT TO

[01:55:05]

CONTINUE PROVIDING THE HIGH QUALITY SEATS.

AND BY PROVIDING THOSE HIGH QUALITY SEATS, THOSE 30 ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS WILL ALLOW US TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT.

22 OF THOSE ADDITIONAL DAYS WILL BE INSTRUCTIONAL.

EIGHT OF THE DAYS WILL BE ON SATURDAY, WHERE WE WILL EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR PB FOR TEACHER CAPACITY.

ANOTHER THING IN REGARDS TO TEACHER CAPACITY IS OUR PLCS.

WE DESIRE THE CONTINUITY OF PUSHING PURPOSE AND PRACTICE OF DEVELOPING TEACHERS BY USING THOSE TOP TIER ONE TEACHERS, THE BEST PRACTITIONERS TO GROW US.

HOLD EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE.

WHY ALL OF US GROW BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

ALSO, THOSE ADDITIONAL DAYS WILL ALLOW US TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE INTERVENTIONS AND ENRICHMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WE ARE PUSHING.

WE WANT OUR APPROACH STUDENTS TO MEET AND WE WANT THOSE MEETS TO MASTERS.

AND THE ADDITIONAL DAYS WILL ALLOW US TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THAT INTENTIONAL GUIDANCE, INSTRUCTION, ENGAGEMENT THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE PROVEN THAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF MAINTAINING AND MOVING, BECAUSE THAT IS CERTAINLY A GOAL THAT WE HAVE IN OUR DISTRICT AND ON OUR CAMPUS. AND FINALLY, THOSE ADDITIONAL DAYS WILL ALLOW US TO HAVE MORE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT AS WELL AS FAMILY INVOLVEMENT.

OUR PARENTS ARE VERY ADAMANT AND THEY SHOW UP FOR POLAR EXPRESS NIGHT AND THEY SHOW UP FOR [INAUDIBLE].

BUT WE THINK WITH THOSE ADDITIONAL SATURDAYS, WE CAN GET THOSE PARENTS THERE TO BE MORE INVOLVED IN CONVERSATIONS LIKE WARRIOR TALK, WHERE WE CAN TALK ABOUT YOUR CHILD, WHERE THEY ARE RIGHT NOW, WHERE WE ARE PUSHING THEM AND HOW YOU CAN ASSIST US AND HOW WE CAN SHOW YOU STRATEGIES THAT WE ARE TEACHING IN THE CLASSROOMS AND HOW WE CAN HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE TEKS AND HOW WE CAN BREAK IT DOWN TO MOVE OUR STUDENTS.

SO WITH THIS MODIFICATION OF THE CALENDAR, SHOULD YOU VOTE TO APPROVE IT AND WE HOPE AND PRAY YOU DO, WE ARE ABLE TO JUST REALLY MOVE FORWARD WITH OUR STUDENTS AND CONTINUE TO PUSH TOWARDS EXCELLENCE OF OUR DISTRICT.

THANK YOU. AND OUR FINAL PRINCIPAL, [INAUDIBLE], MARY HARRIS.

GOOD EVENING, MR. VICE PRESIDENT. DR.

MCFARLAND AND TRUSTEES.

MY NAME IS [INAUDIBLE], AND I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF MARY HARRIS ELEMENTARY.

I WOULD LIKE TO FIRST EXTEND A THANK YOU FOR APPOINTING ME AS LEADER OF MARY HARRIS FOR THE UPCOMING 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR.

I APPRECIATE YOUR CONFIDENCE.

MARY HARRIS WILL FOLLOW A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL CALENDAR, BUT ADDING ADDITIONAL OR EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.

SO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

OUR CALENDAR WILL ADD ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS FOR GRADES THREE, FOUR AND FIVE.

NOW, THE MONTESSORI STUDENTS ON OUR CAMPUS WON'T BE IMPACTED BY THESE INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS.

A TOTAL OF EIGHTEEN DAYS WILL BE ADDED TO THE CALENDAR.

ALL OF THOSE DAYS WILL BE ON SATURDAY.

EIGHT SATURDAYS WILL BE SATURDAY CAMPS, AND THERE WILL BE TEN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR TEACHERS.

THE SATURDAY CAMPS WILL OFFER A VARIETY OF LEARNING EXPERIENCES.

WE WILL ALSO SUPPORT STUDENTS IN THE AREAS OF MATH, SCIENCE AND ELAR DURING THOSE SATURDAYS. WE WILL HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENCOURAGE HIGH ENGAGEMENT BY ALLOWING OUR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS AND TRADITIONAL FIELD TRIPS.

WE WILL ALSO ON THOSE SATURDAYS, WE HAVE GOALS OF DEVELOPING OR DESIGNING A STUDENT LED COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT AND ALSO DEVELOPING AN EFFORT WITH THE COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AND ENGAGEMENT FAIRS.

AND THEN LAST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, THOSE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS.

THOSE ARE GOING TO BE FOCUSED ON BUILDING TEACHER CAPACITY.

THE PLANNING SESSIONS WILL BE DELIBERATE, TARGETED AND FOCUSED AND ALIGNED WITH DISTRICT GOALS.

[APPLAUSE] SO THIS CONCLUDES OUR PRESENTATION AND THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

SO IF THERE'S NO I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE AND I HAVE ONE QUESTION IS REGARDING HARGRAVE WILL THAT BE AN EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY PLUS THE SCHOOL YEAR, OR WILL IT JUST BE THE EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR? YES. SO AS A PART OF THE PLAN THAT THAT HARGRAVE IS SUBMITTING, THEY AS A COLLECTIVE CAMPUS, MADE A DECISION TO KEEP THE PRACTICE OF THE ACE MODEL, BUT TO REDUCE THAT TIME OR THE ADDITIONAL HOUR AND JUST GO TO A LONGER YEAR.

AND SO THAT IS THE PLAN THAT THEY SURVEYED THE STAFF AND HAD DISCUSSION IN THE DESIGN.

AND SO THAT WAS THE FINAL CONCLUSION FROM LISTENING TO THE TEACHERS AND STAFF.

[02:00:03]

MS. DAVIS. THANK YOU.

ARE THE PARENT MEETINGS REQUIRED A MANDATORY? SO IT'S HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.

WE KNOW THAT IT'S NOT WE.

THE ATTEMPT IS REALLY TO EDUCATE THE PARENTS ABOUT THE CHILD'S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND PROGRESS. AND WE KNOW THAT THERE'S SOME BARRIERS IN REGARD TO TIMES.

SO OUR HOPE IS BY PLACING THEM ON SATURDAYS WITH PARENTS WORKING THIS WILL ALLOW THEM TO ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO MAKE IT MORE FREQUENTLY.

AND SO IT'S NOT A MANDATORY THING, BUT IT'S HIGHLY ENCOURAGED AND WE'RE TRYING TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY FEEL WELCOME AND CONDUCIVE TO THEIR WORK SCHEDULES.

IT'S NOW A LONG TIME AGO, ESPECIALLY IN KINDERGARTEN AND PRE-K.

THE MAYBE EVEN FIRST GRADE, THE FIRST REPORT CARD, THE PARENT HAD TO COME IN ORDER FOR THEM TO GET IT. SO THAT WAS INCENTIVE TO ENGAGE THE PARENT.

AND I WAS JUST WONDERING IF WE HAD ANYTHING LIKE THAT TO ENCOURAGE THE PARENTS TO COME.

BUT THAT'S DEFINITELY AN EXCELLENT IDEA.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THOSE DIFFERENT IDEAS AND WE DEFINITELY SHARE THAT WITH OUR PRINCIPALS HERE. AND I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION.

SO THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS AND I KNOW EVERYBODY ARE TWO, TWO ARE ON THE SAME CALENDAR. AND THEN I DON'T KNOW IF THE SECOND TWO ARE ON THE SAME CALENDAR.

I THINK THEIRS WAS DIFFERENT.

BUT ANYWAY, THE DIFFERENCE IN PD DAYS.

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THAT? I MEAN, WE WENT FROM 14 TO 24, SO FOR DAVID WALKER AND MEADOW CREEK, THOSE WERE PRETTY MUCH ALIGNED WITH SOME OF THE DISTRICT PD DAYS, AS WELL AS THE WARRIOR TALKS FOR THE FOR ADDITIONAL SATURDAYS.

FOR JAY HARGRAVE WHEN SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE PARENT MEETINGS INVOLVEMENT AS WELL.

THOSE ARE DIFFERENT AND BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE CAMPUS, LIKE JAY HARGRAVE HAS A BILINGUAL A LARGE POPULATION OF BILINGUAL STUDENTS AND THE NEEDS ARE MUCH DIFFERENT FROM THE CAMPUS. SO IT WOULD HAVE VARIATIONS ON WHAT THOSE PDS WILL LOOK LIKE FOR THOSE TEACHERS AND REGARDS FOR MARY HARRIS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MISS BELL SHARED WAS BUILDING THE TEACHER CAPACITY, ALLOWING THOSE GRADE LEVEL TEACHERS THAT HAVE TIME TO BE ABLE TO TRULY LEARN FROM THE BEST PRACTITIONERS ON THE CAMPUS. SO IT WOULD BE MORE CONTENT RICH PDS TO HELP DEVELOP THOSE TEACHER'S CONTENT. AND SO THAT'S KIND OF WHAT THE DESIGN OF THOSE DAYS.

BUT EACH CAMPUS WILL BE TRULY BASED ON THE NEEDS FOR EACH CAMPUS.

THANK YOU. MR. RAY. YEAH. SO ONE JUST LIKE MARY HARRIS, THOSE EIGHT ADDITIONAL DAYS ARE SATURDAYS ARE THE SATURDAYS REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS.

SO IT WILL BE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED AND REQUIRE FOR THOSE THREE THROUGH FIVE STUDENTS AND THOSE STUDENTS WHO I KNOW WE'VE TALKED ABOUT HAVING A TRACKING SYSTEM FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO DO NOT ATTEND TO TRY TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THOSE SUPPORTS THAT'S NEEDED.

BUT THAT WILL BE A TARGETED PLAN FOR GRADES 3 TO 5.

FOR MARY HARRIS, WHAT WE'VE SEEN IS SOME SOME REGRESSION THROUGH THE SLIDE.

AND SO OUR HOPE IS THAT WE'RE ABLE TO REGAIN SOME OF THE AREAS THAT WAS LOST FROM THAT TIME DURING THOSE SATURDAYS, BUT IT WOULD BE INCENTIVIZED TO TRY TO GET STUDENTS TO COME.

AND THEN SO I'VE GOT I'M ALL FOR THIS AS A BEGINNING, AS YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY NOW WITH COVID LIKE BUT I DO HAVE ONE LOGISTICAL QUESTION ON MARY HARRIS, BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THE ONE THING THAT WE ARE SOME PEOPLE KNOW IS, YOU KNOW, SO THE STATES GIVING ADDITIONAL FUNDING PASSED 180 DAYS.

RIGHT. SO I WOULD PRESUME WHAT WE'RE DOING AT DAVID WALKER, MEADOW CREEK AND JAY HARGRAVE IS PROBABLY BUDGET NEUTRAL BECAUSE WE'RE GETTING HALF DAY FUNDING.

SO WE'RE ALREADY AT LIKE 172.

SO WE GET TO 180 AND THEN YOU GET THOSE ADDITIONAL 14 DAYS AND THAT WILL PAY FOR THE ADDITIONAL TEACHER TIME. IT GETS THE TEACHERS, THEY DON'T HAVE TO WORK OTHER JOBS.

IT GIVES MORE DAYS FOR THE KIDS, HOPEFULLY MORE TIME FOR RECESS DURING THE DAY.

AND THAT WAS MY LAST COMMENT AS I REALLY YOU KNOW, THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS I REALLY PUSHED FOR THIS. BUT ALSO, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THOSE LITTLE KIDS GET MORE TIME TO PLAY DURING THE DAY AND THEY STILL GET THE INSTRUCTIONAL TIME.

SO, YOU KNOW, GETTING THOSE BREAKS BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, IT'S A LOT BETTER.

AND SO WE GET THESE EXTRA DAYS.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE, YOU KNOW, TAKE SOME OF THAT TIME, MAKE SURE THEY GET MORE PLAYTIME DURING THE DAY. BUT THAT'S MY $0.02.

BUT MY QUESTION IS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT MARY HARRIS IS SO WE'RE ALREADY LIKE WE'VE GOT 172 DAY CALENDAR OR 173 DAY CALENDAR.

THOSE EIGHT ADDITIONAL SCHOOL DAYS IS ONLY GOING TO GET US TO LIKE 181.

SO ARE WE MAKING AN INVESTMENT THERE FOR THE ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS? BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T PROBABLY NOT GOING TO BE BUDGET NEUTRAL ON THAT.

SO YEAH, WITH MARY HARRIS PARTICULARLY WE WILL BE USING AND REALLY FOR FOR ALL OF THE

[02:05:02]

CAMPUSES, WE'LL BE USING SOME OF OUR ESSER FUNDS TO REALLY KIND OF SUPPORT THE ADDITIONAL EXPENSE THAT IS ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT WE WOULD COLLECT THROUGH THROUGH [INAUDIBLE] MODEL.

SO ON, MARY HARRIS, WE DO RECOGNIZE THAT THAT'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE THE MAJORITY OF THAT EXPENSE WILL FALL ON ESSER FUNDS OR OUTSIDE FUNDS IN ORDER TO SUPPORT IT.

AND ALSO, I KNOW THAT THERE IS THERE'S BEEN A QUESTION JUST ABOUT WITH THESE CAMPUSES.

WE ARE USING STRATEGIC STAFFING.

AND SO WITH BOTH DAVID WALKER, OF COURSE, THAT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE, BUT WITH WITH MEADOW CREEK AND MARY HARRIS, WE'RE REALLY USING STRATEGIC STAFFING, MEANING THAT IF TEACHERS DECIDE TO WORK IN THIS MODEL, THEN WE WOULD ACCOMMODATE THAT.

BUT THEY WOULD HAVE TO AGREE TO WORK ON THESE ADDITIONAL DAYS.

IF THEY DECIDE NOT TO WORK ON THIS MODEL, WE WILL DEFINITELY WORK TO GUARANTEE THEM A POSITION IN THE DISTRICT.

AND SO I KNOW THERE'S BEEN A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT.

AND SO WE ARE WORKING THROUGH THAT PROCESS RIGHT NOW.

ALSO KNOW THAT THERE'S PROBABLY SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT ABOUT COMPENSATION AND STIPENDS RELATIVE TO THESE THESE THESE DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT SCHEDULES.

AND SO, OF COURSE, WE UNDERSTAND WHAT OUR CURRENT TEACHER CONTRACT AND CURRENT TEACHER TEACHER COMPENSATION SCHEDULE IS.

ALL OF THESE DISTRICTS, ALL OF THESE EXCUSE AND ALL OF THESE SCHOOLS AND THE CALENDARS ARE ABOVE AND BEYOND OUR CURRENT TEACHER COMPENSATION PLAN.

AND SO WE'LL BE BRINGING BACK TO YOU BOARD AT THE BEFORE WE TAKE ACTION, WE'LL BRING BACK TO YOU A BREAKDOWN OF EACH POSITION OR CATEGORY ON THAT CAMPUS AND HOW COMPENSATION WOULD BE IMPACTED AS A RESULT OF THE ADDITIONAL DAYS.

AGAIN, IT WILL BE IT WILL VARY.

AND SO WE'LL TAKE EACH ONE OF THEM AND MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING.

AND WE'LL ALSO MEET WITH THE UA TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ALL ARE ON THE SAME PAGE BEFORE WE BRING IT BACK FOR ACTION.

DR. WILLIAMS, I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THESE FOUR LOVELY LADIES, YOU CAN TELL.

BY WHEN YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND YOU SAY, I AM THE PRINCIPAL AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THAT MEANS YOU TAKE OWNERSHIP AND YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE TOWARDS YOUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, AND I WANT TO APPLAUD YOU ALL FOR THAT.
