I EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO EVERYONE PRESENT FOR TONIGHT'S MEETING.

THE MONTHLY MEETINGS OF THE BOARD ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND WE'RE PLEASED THAT YOU HAVE JOINED US AS WE CELEBRATE ACHIEVEMENT, REVIEW INFORMATION, AND MAKE POLICY DECISIONS RELATED TO THE EFFECTIVE OPERATION OF CROWLEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE WILL BE CONFINED TO THE TIME DESIGNATED FOR CITIZENS TO ADDRESS THE BOARD.

DECORUM AND COURTESY ARE IMPORTANT ELEMENTS IN EFFECTIVE PUBLIC MEETINGS.

PLEASE SILENCE YOUR PHONES OR COMMUNICATION DEVICES, BEFORE WE BEGIN OUR PROCEEDINGS.

AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING AND FOR YOUR INTEREST IN CROWLEY ISD SCHOOLS.

BEFORE WE CONTINUE OUR MEETING THIS EVENING, THE CROWLEY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES WOULD LIKE TO PAUSE AS WE GRIEVE THE LIVES LOST DURING THIS WEEK SHOOTING AT ROBB ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN UVALDE.

WE DO NOT HAVE THE WORDS TO SAY RIGHT NOW ABOUT THIS SENSELESS ACT OF VIOLENCE, BUT WE ASK THAT YOU JOIN US IN A MOMENT OF SILENCE IN HONOR OF THE VICTIMS, THEIR FAMILIES, AND EVERYONE WHO IS HURTING.

THANK YOU. AT THIS TIME, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

WE WILL BEGIN OUR MEETING TONIGHT WITH OUR SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT, DR. MCFARLAND.

[3.0 Superintendent Report]

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS TONIGHT FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT REPORT, WE'D LIKE TO PAUSE AND JUST FIRST RECOGNIZE THE SERVICE OF THE SACRIFICE AND THE INSIGHT AND INTEGRITY OF MR. RYAN RAY.

HE HAS SERVED WELL IN CROWLEY ISD FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS AND IN EVEN MORE, HE'S BEEN A LONGTIME MEMBER OF CROWLEY ISD AND WILL ALWAYS BE.

WE WANT TO PAUSE AND GIVE MR. RAY AN OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THE BOARD AND THE CROWD.

>> THANK YOU. I HAD A SPEECH BUT [LAUGHTER] I TOLD ME I'D KEEP IT UNDER AN HOUR.

BUT NOW I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE FOR 10 YEARS ON THE BOARD NOW AND I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT.

WE'VE DONE 22 GRADUATIONS AND THE LAST ONE WAS MY OLDEST SON'S.

HE GRADUATED AT NORTH CROWLEY JUST LAST WEEK AND SO THAT WAS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST HONOR OF BEING ON THE BOARD.

YOU'D BE DOWN THERE AND 22 GRADUATIONS OVER THE REGULAR GRADUATIONS.

BUT THEN WE'VE GOT ALL THE SUMMER GRADUATIONS AND THE WINTER GRADUATIONS AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY BY THE TIME YOU ADD IT ALL UP.

BUT IT'S BEEN AN HONOR TO SERVE THE KIDS AT CROWLEY ISD AND TO WORK WITH ALL OF YOU, NOT MANY ADMINISTRATORS IN THE ROOM AT THE MOMENT, BUT THAT'S ALL RIGHT.

I WAS GOING BACK JUST TRYING TO REMEMBER AND WENT THROUGH THE LIST.

THERE WERE 15 BOARD MEMBERS WHO'VE COME AND GONE OTHER THAN, AND JUNE STAYED.

ME AND JUNE STUCK IT OUT THE LAST DECADE,

[00:05:04]

BUT I APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK FROM THE FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS AND EVERYTHING WE'VE DONE OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, AND ALL THE WORK THAT THE FACULTY AND STAFF OF CROWLEY ISD HAVE PUT IN TO MAKE CROWLEY ISD WHAT IT IS.

I FEEL LIKE WE'VE COME A LONG WAY.

I'M REALLY EXCITED THAT AFTER THIS, YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO APPROVE THE STYROGENIES, AND WE CAN START TO CUT DOWN ON ALL THOSE STYROFOAM MEAL CONTAINERS THAT ARE THROWN AWAY EVERY DAY, LIKE 15 MILLION OF THEM OR WHATEVER.

ANYWAY, IT DON'T MATTER. THAT MAKES ME EXCITED.

I CAN GO OUT AT LEAST KNOWING [LAUGHTER] I HAD AN IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT.

BUT MY YOUNGEST SON WHO WAS BORN A MONTH AFTER I GOT ON THE BOARD, HE'S IN THE DUAL -LANGUAGE PROGRAM, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT I WAS REALLY ADVOCATED FOR THE CREATION OF.

IT'S BEEN A GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

I THANK YOU ALL FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE THE LAST 10 YEARS AND THANK YOU FOR BEING MY FRIENDS AND EVERYTHING AND WORKMATES STILL.

THAT'S ALL THAT I'VE GOT. [APPLAUSE]

>> MS. DAVIS.

>> THANK YOU, DR. HALL. I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE WORKING WITH YOU, MR. RAY.

I DON'T THINK WE'VE SEEN THE END OF YOU WITH YOUR ASPIRATIONS OF BIGGER AND GREATER THINGS.

I THINK WE'LL BE HEARING MORE FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE, AND BEST OF LUCK.

>> I ALSO AGREE WITH MS. DAVIS.

A REALLY QUICK STORY ABOUT MR. RAY AND I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL CONVENTIONS AND THINGS ALONG WITH THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS AS WELL.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I ENJOY ABOUT RYAN IS HIS STORIES ABOUT HE WANTS TO RUN FOR STATE AND HE DID.

BUT HE WANTS TO RUN FOR STATE AGAIN, AND HE'S LIKE, "I THINK THIS SEAT IS GOING TO BE OPEN AND I THINK I COULD TAKE IT.

I THINK I'M MOVING" AND I'M LIKE, RYAN, YOU'RE NOT MOVING.

WELL, WE'LL SEE. I AGREE.

I THINK WE WILL SEE MORE OF RYAN RAY AND IT'S BEEN AN HONOR TO WORK WITH YOU.

>> IF I MAY, DR. HALL.

I ECHO MS. DAVIS AND MR. GRASSIA, AND MY SENTIMENTS REGARDING MR. RAY, HE OPENED UP HIS ARMS AND HIS HOME TO ME AND MY FAMILY.

I WON'T FORGET THE HOSPITALITY, THE WARM THAT HE MADE US FEEL.

HE'S BEEN MY PARTNER, MY NEIGHBOR ON THIS BOARD IN THIS POSITION SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD AND I APPRECIATE HIM, THE HUMOR, AND I'VE LEARNED SO MUCH.

I'M NOT A MATH PERSON, I'M NOT A NUMBERS PERSON, AND I'M NOT A LEGAL PERSON, I'M A LAW PERSON.

I ABIDE BY THE LAW, [LAUGHTER] BUT LET ME GET THAT RIGHT.

BUT THIS PERSON IS AND HE BROUGHT SO MUCH INSIGHT TO DECISIONS AND ADDITIONAL RESOURCES, JUST THE KNOWLEDGE.

I APPRECIATE THAT I'VE LEARNED SO MUCH.

I FEEL BETTER ABOUT DOING MY TAXES, AND PROPERTY TAXES AND KNOWING HOW TO DISPUTE MY PROPERTY TAXES.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, BUT BEYOND THAT, THANK YOU FOR BEING THE PERSON THAT YOU ARE.

I JUST GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT. THANK YOU.

>> I'LL GO. TRACEY RAY, I APPRECIATE YOU BEING A COLLEAGUE AND A FRIEND, AND OUR CHILDREN GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL, SO THEY OCCASIONALLY WE WILL RUN INTO EACH OTHER OUTSIDE OF HERE.

I JUST APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU'VE DONE.

MANY OF YOU MAY NOT KNOW, BUT MY HOME WAS DAMAGED LAST YEAR,

[00:10:01]

AND I APPRECIATE YOUR LEGAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE AND YOUR WILLINGNESS TO TELL ME, "YOU KNOW YOU CAN BOW AND GET PROPERTY DAMAGE RELIEF?" AND I WAS LIKE, "NO, I DID NOT KNOW THAT," AND SHE WAS LIKE, "THERE'S A DEADLINE QUICKLY APPROACHING." IT WAS THIS TIME VERSUS ME, SO ALMOST A YEAR TO THE DAY, I WAS LIKE, "OH, LET ME GET THIS APPLICATION IN." THEN WHEN I HAD ISSUES WITH MY CONTRACTOR, HE WOULD LIKE, "I CAN HAVE SOMEONE LOOK OVER THAT", AND I APPRECIATE YOU NOT ONLY BEING A BOARD COLLEAGUE, BUT ALSO JUST LENDING YOUR EXPERTISE TO ME OUTSIDE OF CISD.

LIKE EVERYONE HAS SAID, YOU WILL BE MISSED, BUT I KNOW THAT WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN AND THIS IS NOT THE END OF RYAN RAY. THANK YOU.

>> RYAN RAY, IT HAS BEEN MY SINCERE PLEASURE TO SERVE WITH YOU OVER THE LAST SEVEN YEARS.

I HAVE DONE A LOT OF GROWING ON THIS BOARD AND I ATTRIBUTE THAT ALSO TO YOU.

WE DIDN'T ALWAYS GET ALONG, AND SOMETIMES WE FIGHT, BUT I HOPE THAT IT WAS LIKE A BIG SISTER AND LITTLE BROTHER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I TOOK IT.

YOU TAUGHT ME A LOT ABOUT SCHOOL FINANCE, PROPERTIES HACKS.

YOU ARE THE NUMBERS GUY AND I DEFINITELY GREW TO DEPEND ON YOU FOR THAT.

I'M GOING TO MISS HAVING THAT KNOWLEDGE WITHIN OUR REACH, BUT I DO KNOW THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE YOU IN THE SERVICE OF THE DISTRICT, BECAUSE I HOPE THAT YOU WILL STAY A PRESENCE ON OUR COMMITTEES AND THAT WE WILL SEE YOU AT DIFFERENT EVENTS AND THAT YOU WILL CONTINUE TO SHARE YOUR CHILDREN WITH US IN OUR DISTRICT.

THANK YOU ALSO FOR BEING A FRIEND OUTSIDE AND BEYOND THE BOARD.

YOU TO HAVE OFFERED MY FAMILY, MY HUSBAND, OUR BUSINESS LEGAL ADVICE.

YOU'VE DONE THINGS FOR US TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE PAID AND REPRESENTED WELL, AND FOR THAT, I'M VERY GRATEFUL AS WELL.

YOUR SERVICE HAS TRANSCENDED JUST BEING HERE AT THE DAY, I THINK YOU'VE MADE AN IMPACT ON ALL OF US PERSONALLY AND WE APPRECIATE IT.

ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD, IT'S MY HONOR TO PRESENT YOU WITH TWO ITEMS. FIRST, THIS GAVEL, PLEASE PRESENT IT TO HIM, OR MAYBE WE SHOULD BE STANDING.

I'M NOT SURE. YES. YOU WANT TO STAND? WE WANT TO PRESENT TO YOU THIS GAVEL AS A SHOW OF UP OUR APPRECIATION, AND WE ALSO WANT TO PRESENT TO YOU THIS PLAQUE AS A TOKEN OF OUR APPRECIATION AND TO CELEBRATE YOUR SERVICE TO THIS BOARD AND TO THE DISTRICT AND TO THE COMMUNITY OF CROWLEY ISD.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEN YEARS OF SERVICE, [BACKGROUND] AND WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN YOUR FUTURE PURSUITS.

[APPLAUSE].

>> DR. HALL, I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION.

YOU'RE NOT GOING TO START CHARGING FOR THAT LEGAL ADVICE NOW, ARE YOU? [LAUGHTER]

>> AT THIS TIME WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A BRIEF RECESS FOR PICTURES AND FOR OUR INCOMING TRUSTEES ALSO TO MAKE A TRANSITION TO THE DAYS.

IT IS NOW 6:17.

[NOISE] WE ARE RESUMING OUR MEETING AT 6:21 PM FOR AGENDA ITEM 4.0, OATH OF OFFICE.

[5.0 Celebrations / Board Points of Pride]

WE'RE GOING TO MOVE INTO OUR BOARD CELEBRATIONS.

FAMILY MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY, WE ARE SO GRATEFUL THAT YOU ARE HERE TONIGHT, AND THANK YOU FOR COMING TO SHARE IN THIS SPECIAL OCCASION IN WELCOMING OUR TRUSTEES TO THE BOARD, AND ANOTHER THREE YEARS OF SERVICE FROM OUR INCUMBENT.

WE UNDERSTAND THAT BOARD MEETINGS MAY NOT BE YOUR JAM, SO AT ANY TIME YOU FEEL THE NEED TO EXIT, IT'S NOT LIKE CHURCH, YOU CAN JUST GO.

I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU THAT WORD.

BUT IF YOU WANT TO STAY, YOU STAY AS LONG AS YOU LIKE BECAUSE IT IS LIKE CHURCH IN THAT REGARD.

[BACKGROUND]. ALL RIGHT.

AGENDA ITEM 5.0, WE ARE NOW AT BOARD'S CELEBRATIONS.

ARE THERE ANY CELEBRATIONS THAT BOARD MEMBERS WOULD LIKE TO SHARE AT THIS TIME?

>> I HAVE ONE.

>> ALL RIGHT, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> SURPRISE. I'D LIKE TO CELEBRATE THE CROWLEY ISD POLICE DEPARTMENT.

[00:20:04]

THE CROWLEY ISD POLICE DEPARTMENT IS BUSY CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS AS THE YEAR COMES TO AN END.

WHETHER IT IS GRADUATION, CAREER DAY AT DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY, CAREER DAY AT OAKMAN ELEMENTARY, OR FIELD DAY AT JACKIE CARTON, OUR OFFICERS SPEND EVERY DAY PROTECTING, SERVING, AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR STUDENTS.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO.

[APPLAUSE].

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER POINTS OF PRIDE OR CELEBRATION THIS EVENING? TRUSTEE MAYFIELD?

>> YES. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY ON THURSDAY, MAY 19TH, J.A HARGRAVE HOSTED A CATERED DINNER FOR 100 INDIVIDUALS TO HONOR CLAWS.

WHAT THAT STANDS FOR IS CREATING LEADERS TO ACHIEVE WORLDWIDE SUCCESS, AND OUR GIRLS WITH PEARLS, GWP, AND 22 GWP'S RECEIVED THEIR PEARLS AND 20 CLAWS STUDENTS RECEIVE NECKTIES AND CHECKERED SETS TO CELEBRATE A GREAT YEAR, SO WE WANT TO HONOR THOSE STUDENTS AND HONOR THOSE LEADERS AT J.A HARGRAVE.

[APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE MAYFIELD. MR. GRASSIA.

>> I ACTUALLY HAVE TWO OF THEM.

ONE OF THEM IS ABOUT BAND, MISS DAVIS.

[LAUGHTER] [BACKGROUND] NO, IT'S NOT. IT'S UNFORTUNATE.

IT'S JUST ABOUT THE NORTH CROWLEY PANTHER BAND.

MORE SPECIFIC, THE JAZZ-BAND, ATTENDED TO CHARLTON STATE FESTIVAL FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH OVER 30 OTHER BANDS FROM ACROSS THE STATE, AND YOU KNOW WHAT PLACE WE TOOK? [NOISE] FIRST PLACE.

[APPLAUSE] IN ADDITION TO THAT, OUR GUITARIST, MILES GRACE, THAT JUST SOUNDS LIKE A JAZZ NAME, DOESN'T IT? [BACKGROUND] MILES GRACE, ARE EARNING AN OUTSTANDING MUSICIAN MORE THAT COMES WITH A 500 DOLLARS SCHOLARSHIP.

[BACKGROUND] [APPLAUSE] CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM.

THE SECOND THING WHICH IS VERY NEAR EVEN MORE SO THAN THE JAZZ BAND IS THE DYSLEXIA AUDIT, AND WE'RE EXCITED TO RECOGNIZE THE WORK OF OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM AND THE DYSLEXIA THERAPIST.

THE DEPARTMENT HAS RECEIVED THE RESULTS OF THE COMPREHENSIVE CYCLING MONITORING REVIEW FROM THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY.

PLEASE JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THEM FOR MEETING ALL THE REQUIREMENTS SUCCESSFULLY.

WAY TO GO. [APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU, MR. GRASSIA, ARE THERE ANY OTHER CELEBRATIONS, MS. DAVIS?

>> NO.

>> NO. OKAY.

>> I DO HAVE ONE.

>> TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

>> THIS ONE, WE WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO MRS. WARREN AND POINTERS PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS FOR DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB ON THEIR END-OF-YEAR CELEBRATION.

THEIR PERFORMANCE WAS APPROPRIATELY NAMED THE DECADES, AND THEY CELEBRATED THE 50S, 60S, 70S, AND 80S.

THEY DANCE TONIGHT AWAY, LAST THURSDAY, MAY 19TH.

YOU ARE ABLE TO CATCH SOME OF THOSE PERFORMANCES ON FACEBOOK ON THE POINTERS FACEBOOK PAGE.

[APPLAUSE]

>> TRUSTEE ALLANS?

>> I HAVE ONE.

>> OKAY.

>> BEAR WITH ME. I'M NEW.

[LAUGHTER] THE CROWLEY ISD POLICE DEPARTMENT IS BUSY CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS AS THE YEAR COME TO AN END.

WE'VE DONE THAT ONE. OH, OKAY.

WELL, CAN I DO IT AGAIN? [BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER] SEE, I TOLD YOU I WAS NEW.

[LAUGHTER] ON TUESDAY, MAY 10TH, MS. VARUN, PRACTICUM OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING STUDENTS RECEIVED A SURPRISE VISIT FROM CROWLEY ISD HR PERSONNEL, WHO PRESENTED THE STUDENTS WITH INTENT TO HIRE, DIDN'T I TELL YOU I WAS NEW? [LAUGHTER] OKAY. ONCE THEY COMPLETED THEIR COLLEGE DEGREE AND CERTIFICATIONS, THEY WILL HAVE A JOB WAITING FOR THEM AT CISD.

[APPLAUSE] ISN'T THAT AMAZING?

[00:25:04]

>> [NOISE] ALL RIGHT. POSTERS, POM-POMS, CONFETTI, AND CHEER, MET OUR TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR, RETIREES, AND SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENTS LAST TUESDAY AT BRJ.

JOINING US TONIGHT, ARE OUR DISTRICT TEACHERS OF THE YEAR FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY; MS. SEAN TAYPITS FROM PARKWAY ELEMENTARY, [APPLAUSE] AND MS. ZEMIKA WILLIAMS FROM BILL R. JOHNSON, CTE CENTER.

[APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND] CAN WE PLEASE GIVE THESE LADIES A ROUND OF APPLAUSE? [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU.

[APPLAUSE].

>> I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING PREPARED, BUT I JUST WANTED TO SAY IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO REPRESENT CROWLEY ISD AT THE REGION 11.

WE PLAN ON TAKING OVER.

DON'T WORRY, WE'RE GOING TO MAKE YOU ALL PROUD.

BUT IT'S AN HONOR AND AS A STEM PLUS TEACHER, AND BEING NEW TO THE CURRICULUM AND NEW TO THE DISTRICT, IT'S AN HONOR TO GET TO WORK WITH THESE KIDS AND TEACH THEM ABOUT THE CAREERS THAT ARE OUT THERE THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A CHANCE TO LOOK AT WITHOUT US.

THANK YOU FOR LETTING US DO THAT AND THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING TO SUPPORT US AND GETTING TO HONOR OUR KIDS AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE THEIR STRENGTHS IN PLACE BEFORE THEY GO OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY AND BE A PART OF US AS WELL.

THANK YOU AND YES, IT'S AN HONOR. [APPLAUSE].

>> I WILL JUST PIGGYBACK ON WHAT SHE JUST SAID.

IT'S DEFINITELY AN HONOR TO BE A PART OF THIS DISTRICT.

I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER WORK FOR ANOTHER DISTRICT EVER. I LOVE CROWLEY.

I WAS A PART OF CROWLEY.

I WENT TO SYCAMORE, I WENT TO CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

IT'S REALLY A PLEASURE TO BE BACK IN THE DISTRICT.

MY CHILDREN HAVE GRADUATED THROUGH THE DISTRICT AND SO EVERY SINGLE DAY THAT I COME HERE, I TRY TO GIVE ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN WHATEVER I WOULD WANT MY CHILDREN TO HAVE EVERY SINGLE DAY AS A TEACHER.

THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS SUPPORTING THE CULINARY PROGRAM AS WELL.

THANKS. [APPLAUSE].

>> I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T PAUSE AND GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FAMILY MEMBERS THAT ARE HERE WHO WANT TO TAKE PICTURES OF THEIR TRUSTEE MEMBERS OR WITH THEIR TRUSTEE MEMBERS.

I BELIEVE THAT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WE WANTED TO PROVIDE AND ALSO FOR US TO TAKE PICTURES WITH A TEACHER OF THE YEAR IF THAT'S AN OPPORTUNITY AS WELL.

SO WE'RE GOING TO TAKE ANOTHER RECESS AND NOW IS YOUR TIME TO TAKE YOUR PICTURES.

MOVE AROUND. LET'S MOVE AROUND.

WE'LL COME BACK IN ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES.

[NOISE] WE ARE NOW BACK IN SESSION AT 6:45.

[6.0 Recognition Item(s)]

WE ARE NOW AT OUR RECOGNITION ITEMS. AGENDA ITEM 6.1, VIDEO MESSAGE FROM THE TEXAS COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION, MR. MIKE MORATH, DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS WERE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO SHARE THIS NEXT ITEM WITH YOU.

AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE HAD A VISIT FROM THE COMMISSIONER.

MR. CARSON WILL BE PRESENTING THIS ITEM. MR. CARSON.

>> DR. HALL, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND, AS DR. MCFARLAND SAID, WE HAD TEXAS EDUCATION COMMISSIONER MIKE MORATH JOINING US HERE IN CROWLEY ISD EARLIER THIS MONTH, ALONG WITH MEMBERS OF THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY AND THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

THEY WERE CHECKING OUT THE AWESOME THINGS HAPPENING IN CLASSROOMS AT DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE BILL R. JOHNSON CTE CENTER.

I APOLOGIZE WE LOST ONE OF OUR, HE'S COMING, GOOD.

THEY WERE AT DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

THEY WERE ALSO JOINED BY STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS FROM MEADOW CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

THEN AFTER THAT, WE TOOK THEM OVER TO THE BILL R. JOHNSON CTE CENTER FOR A REALLY INFORMATIVE MEETING ABOUT ALL THE PROGRAMS THE DISTRICT IS IMPLEMENTING HERE, I THINK STATE AND FEDERAL GRANTS.

WE ALSO, OF COURSE, HOSTED THEM TO LUNCH BY OUR CULINARY ARTS DEPARTMENT AND THE AMAZING CHEF, SHAMIKA WILLIAMS. WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME AND THEN WE GOT A VIDEO MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER AND WE WANTED TO SHARE IT WITH EVERYONE HERE TONIGHT. WATCH THIS.

>> HELLO, CROWLEY ISD EDUCATORS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND OF COURSE THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

MY NAME IS MIKE MORATH, COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION FOR THE STATE OF TEXAS, AND I HAD THE GREAT PLEASURE TO VISIT CROWLEY ISD RECENTLY AND SEE YOUR EXPERT FACULTY MOLDING EAGER YOUNG MINDS.

THE INVESTMENT THAT YOUR TEAM HAS MADE FROM AN INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE IN TERMS OF GROWING TEACHER CAPACITY, IN TERMS OF GIVING KIDS EXPOSURE TO RIGOROUS CONTENT.

IT IS REMARKABLE.

I WAS ACTUALLY IN A FIFTH-GRADE CLASSROOM

[00:30:02]

AND AS PART OF A BROADER LESSON OR A UNIT ON JUNETEENTH, THE KIDS READ THE ACTUAL TEXT OF THE EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION IN FIFTH GRADE.

IT WAS REMARKABLE AND YOU DO NOT SEE THAT LEVEL OF RIGOR IN A WHOLE LOT OF PLACES AROUND THE STATE.

I'VE DONE A TON OF SCHOOL VISITS.

WHAT YOU AND YOUR TEAM HAVE DONE IS TREMENDOUS.

I WANT TO ESPECIALLY CONGRATULATE THE BOARD ON YOUR FOCUS, ON REALLY DELIVERING RESULTS FOR KIDS IN CROWLEY.

IT IS CLEAR THAT IN RECENT YEARS, A PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN CROWLEY HAS NOTABLY IMPROVED.

WE LOOK AT PERFORMANCE VARIETY DIFFERENT WAYS, I'LL SHOW YOU ONE GRAPH.

THE ONE WAY THAT WE LOOK AT PERFORMANCE.

JUST A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND ON THIS GRAPH.

IT'S AN ANALYSIS PERFORMED BY SOMETHING CALLED THE EDUCATION RESOURCE GROUP.

THEY TAKE A WHOLE BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PERFORMANCE INDICATORS AND PROVIDE A SUMMARY LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE FOR EVERY SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE STATE, AND THIS IS CROWLEY ISD.

OF PARTICULAR NOTE, YOU SEE THAT THE TREND LINE AND HOW IT CHANGED, IT HAS IMPROVED REMARKABLY SINCE ABOUT 2018, WHICH I THINK IS THE SAME TIME THAT YOU HIRED ONE DR.

MICHAEL MCFARLAND AND I'M A HUGE FAN OF HIS LEADERSHIP.

IT'S CLEAR HE GOT RESULTS IN THE LAST DISTRICT THAT HE WAS IN AND HE'S GETTING RESULTS FOR YOU ALL.

ANYWAYS, JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR HOSTING ME LAST WEEK AND THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK FOR OUR KIDS. GOD BLESS.

[APPLAUSE].

>> DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS.

FIRST OF ALL, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS.

REALLY AT THE END OF THE DAY, OUR TEACHERS AND OUR PRINCIPALS ARE WORKING EXTREMELY HARD AND IT'S GOOD TOO.

WE KNOW THAT WE WERE WORKING HARD, BUT IT'S GOOD TO GET EXTERNAL AFFIRMATION TO THE WORK.

I KNOW I SEE MS. GRAVIN IN BACK THERE.

THE PRINCIPAL AT DEER CREEK CAMPUS, AND SO THANK YOU, MS. GRAVIN FOR AN AWESOME VISIT AND REALLY THE ENTIRE TEAM.

ALSO WOULD LIKE MR. KEITH TO COME UP.

WE'RE EXCITED ALSO TO SHARE WITH YOU JUST BRIEFLY TONIGHT, WE DO HAVE OUR RECENTLY RELEASED SCORES FOR THIS YEAR.

THESE ARE PRELIMINARY SCORES, BUT WE ARE EXCITED TO JUST SHARE WITH YOU.

WE KNOW THIS HAS BEEN A CHALLENGING YEAR.

IT'S BEEN A LOT OF UNKNOWNS THAT HAVE OCCURRED THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.

OUR TEACHERS HAVE REMAINED FOCUSED, PRINCIPLES HAVE REMAINED FOCUSED, AND WE'RE JUST EXCITED TO SEE THE POSITIVE RESULTS.

MR. KEITH, WOULDN'T YOU SHARE WITH US THE PRELIMINARY RESULTS?

>> ALRIGHT. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

GOOD EVENING BOARD PRESIDENT HALL AND BOARD MEMBERS.

WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO FIRST IS JUST LOOK AT A FEW VERY HIGH-LEVEL TRENDS FOR OUR PRELIMINARY STAAR PERFORMANCES HERE.

THEN WE'LL LOOK AT A COUPLE OF CHARTS THAT SHOW OUR GAINS IN OUR PERFORMANCE THIS YEAR OVER LAST YEAR.

STARTING WITH OUR FIRST TREND, WE SAW DOUBLE-DIGIT GAINS IN READING COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS SCHOOL YEAR.

JUST AS A REMINDER, 2019 WAS THE LAST NORMAL YEAR OF STAAR TESTING IN TEXAS.

IT WAS CANCELED IN 2020.

IT WAS INSTITUTED AGAIN IN 2021, BUT WE WEREN'T GIVEN RATINGS.

NOW WE'RE BACK TO NORMAL IN 2022.

WE'RE REALLY LOOKING AT A COMPARISON TO LAST YEAR WITH THIS FIRST TREND.

BUT IF YOU GO TO THE SECOND TREND, READING IS TESTED AT EIGHT GRADE LEVELS.

IN SEVEN OF THOSE EIGHT GRADE LEVELS, WE ARE ALREADY AT OR ABOVE OUR 2019 PERFORMANCE.

YES. [APPLAUSE].

SO I THINK IT'S INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO EMPHASIZE THE ROLE OF THE PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALISTS, AND TEACHERS, OUR INTERVENTIONISTS IN THE CLASSROOM THEY COME FROM THOSE S OR DOLLARS.

THEY ARE THE FOLKS WHO'VE BEEN BOOTS ON THE GROUND MAKING THIS HAPPEN.

SO WE'RE INCREDIBLY PROUD OF THOSE RESULTS, THESE PRELIMINARY RESULTS.

NOW LOOKING AT MATH, ONE THING WE KNOW, JUST LOOKING AT STATE PERFORMANCE DATA FROM LAST YEAR'S RESULTS, THERE WAS A SLIGHT DIP AND READING ACROSS THE STATE, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT DIP IN MATH PERFORMANCE ACROSS THE STATE AND THAT HOLDS TRUE ACROSS THE BOARD.

BUT FOR US RIGHT NOW WE'RE SEEING SINGLE AND DOUBLE-DIGIT GAINS AND WE'LL LOOK AT THOSE IN JUST A MOMENT IN MATH COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

SO WE'RE VERY PLEASED WITH THE DIRECTION WE'RE HEADED COMPARED TO THE LAST YEAR.

AND THEN AS OUR LAST TREND, WE SEE IMPROVEMENT IN THE SINGLE AND DOUBLE DIGITS ALSO IN SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.

SO WE ARE WITH OUR PRELIMINARY RESULTS HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT WE'RE SEEING.

SO WE CAN TAKE A LOOK NOW.

WE'RE GOING TO GO JUST ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND THEN HIGH SCHOOL END-OF-COURSE EXAMS WELL TAKE A VERY BRIEF LOOK.

SO LET ME GET YOU ORIENTED TO WHAT YOU'RE SEEING.

AND IF YOU'D TAKE A LOOK AT THE VERY TOP OF THIS CHART, YOU'LL SEE APPROACHES, MEETS, AND MASTERS.

SO THE STAAR TEST ACTUALLY HAS THREE PERFORMANCE LEVELS.

IT HAS APPROACHES GRADE LEVEL, MEETS GRADE LEVEL AND MASTERS GRADE LEVEL.

[00:35:02]

AND A STUDENT RECEIVES THEIR SCORES IN ONE OF THOSE AREAS AND APPROACHES IS CONSIDERED PASSING BY THE STATE OF TEXAS.

SO IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THIRD-GRADE READING, EACH OF THOSE NUMBERS IS THE PERCENTAGE CHANGE FROM LAST YEAR'S ASSESSMENT.

SO IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THIRD-GRADE READING, WE TALKED ABOUT THOSE DOUBLE-DIGIT GAINS.

WE SAW A 15% INCREASE IN THE APPROACHES GRADE-LEVEL STANDARD, A 16% INCREASE IN MEETS, AND A 10% INCREASE IN MASTERS.

AND YOU CAN TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE TRENDS FOR THIRD-GRADE READING AND MATH, FOURTH-GRADE READING AND MATH, AND THEN FIFTH-GRADE READING, MATH, AND SCIENCE THERE.

SO THEN WE'LL MOVE ON TO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADE LEVELS.

AND AT MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOU SEE SIXTH-GRADE READING AND MATH, SEVENTH-GRADE READING AND MATH, AND THEN AT EIGHTH GRADE, THEY ACTUALLY TAKE FOUR-STAR TESTS READING MATH SCIENCE, AND SOCIAL STUDIES.

AND YOU CAN SEE THE GAINS LIKE I MENTIONED IN THE TRENDS, THE GAINS IN READING TEND TO BE IN THOSE DOUBLE-DIGIT RANGES, GETTING BACK TO THOSE 2019 LEVELS, AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THE INCREASES IN MATH.

I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THE 12% INCREASE AT APPROACHES IN EIGHTH-GRADE SCIENCE, THAT'S SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT THERE.

IN A TYPICAL YEAR, WE WOULD SEE 3-5% GAINS SO ANYTHING ABOVE THAT IS REALLY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF CHANGE.

AND THEN MOVING ON TO OUR STAAR/EOC.

SO THESE ARE THE FIVE TESTS THAT STUDENTS HAVE TO PASS IN ORDER TO GRADUATE.

EOC JUST STANDS FOR END-OF-COURSE EXAM.

THEY TAKE THOSE IN ENGLISH I AND ENGLISH II, ALGEBRA 1, BIOLOGY, AND US HISTORY.

AND SO YOU CAN SEE THE PERCENT CHANGE THERE.

I'LL JUST LIKE TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO ALGEBRA I WITH THE 12%, 17%, AND 12% GAINS IN APPROACHES, MEETS, AND MASTERS.

AND THEN ONE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER WITH END-OF-COURSE EXAMS THIS ALSO INCLUDES STUDENTS WHO HAVE TESTED MULTIPLE TIMES.

SO IF A STUDENT DOESN'T PASS AN EOC, THEY TAKE IT AND THEY HAVE MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE IT.

THESE NUMBERS INCLUDE RE-TESTERS.

BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT STUDENTS WHO TESTED FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, THEY SAW GAINS IN ALL AREAS, HIGH SINGLE DIGITS INTO THE DOUBLE DIGITS AS WELL.

AND SO WE CAN JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THIS LAST SLIDE AND WE'RE HAPPY TO SEE THAT WE'RE RETURNING TO WHERE WE WERE AND WE'RE EXCITED TO EXCEED THAT MOVING FORWARD.

AND I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, MR. KEITH, ESPECIALLY FOR THIS GREAT NEWS.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

>> THANK YOU TO OUR TEACHERS, STAFF, PRINCIPALS, ADMIN, FOR THE PHENOMENON OF WORK BECAUSE IT SHOWS.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION, I THINK I KNOW THIS, BUT WHAT WOULD YOU ATTRIBUTE THE GAINS TO? BECAUSE I KNOW THE STATE HAD IMPLEMENTED SOME THINGS HB 4545, WE USE SR FUNDS.

SO WHAT WOULD YOU ATTRIBUTE TO THE GREEN? IT'S STILL PRETTY, ACROSS THE BOARD.

[LAUGHTER]

>> ABSOLUTELY. SO YES, THE GREEN IS A BEAUTIFUL COLOR.

AND SO I THINK A VERY SYSTEMATIC AND SYSTEM-WIDE APPROACH TO HOW WE FILLED GAPS FOR STUDENTS.

SO AGAIN, THE SR FUNDS FOR INTERVENTIONISTS PLAY A HUGE ROLE IN THIS.

WE ALSO PARTNERED WITH THE STATE THROUGH WHAT'S CALLED THE TCLAS GRANT TO BE ABLE TO GET TUTORING IN SOME OF OUR HIGHEST NEEDS AREAS.

WE IMPLEMENTED VIRTUAL TUTORING AT THIRD-GRADE READING.

I THINK YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE IMPACTS THERE.

AND THEN REALLY WE HAD WITH OUR PRINCIPLES SUPERVISORS WORKING WITH OUR PRINCIPALS A VERY INTENTIONAL AND TARGETED FOCUS DOWN TO THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT REALLY STARTING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

SO AS SOON AS WE GOT THOSE INITIAL BEGINNING OF YEAR RESULTS BACK, OUR PRINCIPAL SUPERVISORS WORKED VERY CLOSELY WITH PRINCIPALS TO HAVE TARGETED APPROACHES FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

AND YOU DID MENTION HB 4545, THOSE ADDITIONAL 30 HOURS OF ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION.

WE REALLY ALREADY HAD THAT PLAN IN PLACE.

WE BUILT INTERVENTION TIME INTO OUR DAY, SO WE WERE PRETTY WELL-SITUATED TO APPROACH THAT FOR OUR STUDENTS.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? TRUSTEE DAVIS, NO OBLIGATION.

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU WANTED TO SAY?

>> NO. I HAVE A COMMENT.

I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION, BUT I HAVE A COMMENT.

THAT MESSAGE FROM COMMISSIONER MIKE MORATH IS CONFIRMATION THAT WE'RE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND WE'RE DOING WHAT'S RIGHT FOR KIDS.

I WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO DR. MCFARLAND AND TO THE STAFF, THE BOOTS ON THE GROUND THAT ARE REALLY GETTING THE WORK DONE, AND DR. MCFARLAND, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP.

I HAVE NO MORE WORDS OF HOW EXCITED I AM TO HEAR THAT FROM HIM.

[00:40:02]

LIKE I SAID, IT'S JUST CONFIRMATION THAT WE ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING AND WE'RE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? DO YOU WANT TO GO? YOU GO AFTER ME.

I JUST WANT TO SAY, AS AN EDUCATOR, I'M A FORMER CAMPUS ADMINISTRATOR, THIS IS LIKE STAAR.

I KNOW WE ALL HATE THAT IT IS, BUT IT'S LIKE OUR SUPER BOWL.

AND SO THIS DAY COMES AND THEN WE WAIT AND WE WAIT FOR THESE RESULTS AND IT'S LIKE YOU GET BUTTERFLIES WHEN YOU HEAR THAT THE SCORES HAVE DROPPED.

JUST LIKE YOU WANT TO GO TO YOUR COMPUTER AND LOOK AT THE SCORES, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, YOU'RE SICK.

I GET THE SAME [NOISE] BUTTERFLIES WITH REGARDS TO OUR RESULTS HERE AS A DISTRICT, BUT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, BUT TO ECHO THE SENTIMENTS OF MY COLLEAGUES, JUST SO HAPPY TO SEE SO MUCH GREEN.

EVEN IN THOSE AREAS WHERE THERE'S NO CHANGE OR WHEN THERE WAS SOME GOING A LITTLE BIT BACKWARDS, IT'S ONLY 1%.

SO THAT MEANS THAT WE'RE HOLDING STEADY AND SO OUR KIDS AREN'T LOSING ANYTHING AND BUT THERE ARE SO MANY GAINS.

AND SO THAT'S A FAST TURNAROUND.

I WORK IN A DISTRICT AND WE TALK ABOUT THIS ALL THE TIME, ABOUT THE LEARNING LOSS AND WHAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO DO TO GET IT BACK.

AND IT LOOKS LIKE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF DR. MCFARLAND, STAFF, TEACHERS AND I WANT TO SAY PARENTS AS WELL, BECAUSE I KNOW PARENTS MAKE SURE THE KIDS GET THERE, STAY AFTER SCHOOL, THEY PICK THEM UP, THEY BRING THEM ON THE WEEKENDS AND THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO PLUG OUR SUMMER ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND MAKES SURE THAT YOU GET THE KIDS THERE SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO SEE ALL THESE GREEN.

BUT JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THE TREMENDOUS EFFORT.

I KNOW IT TOOK A VILLAGE AND JUST SO PROUD OF THE GROWTH THAT WE'RE MAKING AND THAT WE'RE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

>> TRUSTEE GARCIA.

>> SO MINE'S NOT NEARLY AS COOL AS DR. HALL'S, BUT WHAT I WILL SAY IS, IS THAT IT'S [INAUDIBLE] THAT DR. HALL USES A FOOTBALL ANALOGY.

AND WHEN YOU'RE PLAYING AT THE SUPER BOWL, YOU HAVE A HALF-TIME AND YOU ALL HAVE A HALF-TIME AS WELL AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT TEST SCORES AND EVERYTHING.

BUT YOU ALL CAN'T REALLY SEE WHAT THE END RESULT WILL BE UNTIL THE VERY END.

SO I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE WHAT THAT IS TO AN EDUCATOR THAT YOU HAVE TO RELY THAT EVERYONE DOES THEIR JOB AND DOES IT AND THEN WE HAVE THESE GREAT LITTLE KIDS THAT COME AND TAKE THE TEST.

AND WE HOPE THAT THEY HAD BREAKFAST, DIDN'T GET INTO AN ARGUMENT WITH MOM AND DAD. ALL OF THESE THINGS.

WE GOT THERE ON TIME, ALL OF THESE THINGS.

SO WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM AND TO DR. MCFARLAND, GREAT JOB.

>> IF THERE ARE NO OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS FOR MR. KEITH, WE WILL MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM. THANK YOU, MR. KEITH.

AGENDA ITEM 6.2 UIL ELEMENTARY ACADEMICS MEET CHAMPIONS. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS WE ARE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO RECOGNIZE OUR UIL ELEMENTARY ACADEMIC MEET CHAMPIONS.

WE HAD AN AWESOME UIL ACADEMIC MEET, THANKS TO MR. SWANN AND TEAM.

AND SO, MR. KIRCHNER, WE'LL BE HERE TO PRESENT THIS ITEM ALONG WITH MS. ROSE EATMON AND MR. GERY MORENO.

>> THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND, DR. HALL, AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

SATURDAY, MAY 14TH, BILL R. JOHNSON CTE CENTER WAS THE PLACE TO BE.

ONCE AGAIN, A WEEKEND WHERE THAT BUILDING WAS PACKED AND HOPPED IN.

WE LOVE THAT CENTER. THANK YOU FOR INVESTING IN IT AND ALLOWING US TO USE IT.

THIS TIME IS FOR THE ELEMENTARY UIL ACADEMICS CHAMPIONS.

AND THEY HAD MORE THAN 500 STUDENTS FROM SCHOOLS ACROSS CROWLEY ISD, COMPETING IN A VARIETY OF ACADEMIC SUBJECTS.

STUDENTS TRAILBLAZERS WHICH ALL SCREWED UP JUST A LITTLE FURTHER.

SO EVERYONE DID COME IN THE ROOM. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

AND I WANT TO BRING IN MS. EATMON AND MR. MORENO TO TELL US MORE ABOUT THE WHY BEHIND THIS COMPETITION AND WHAT STUDENTS HAD TO DO TO GET THERE.

AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO INTRODUCE SOME OF THESE FIRST-PLACE WINNERS.

OUR TRAILBLAZERS I'M GOING TO BRING YOU ALL THE WAY ACROSS FRONT, FOLLOW THEM.

RIGHT HERE. SO I HAVE MR. MORENO HERE WRAPPING UP AS A TEACHER AT DEER CREEK.

BUT AS I UNDERSTAND MR. RENO IS GOING OVER TO BE AN INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALISTS AT HARVARD NEXT SCHOOL YEAR AND THEN WE HAVE MS. EDMUND AN INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST FROM JACKIE CARDEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

THEY HELP LEAD THE DISTRICT WIDE EVENT.

I'M GOING TO ASK THEM TO TELL US ABOUT IT AND THE WHY BEHIND IT AND THEN WE'LL INTRODUCE SOME OF THESE GREAT SCHOLARS.

>> GOOD AFTERNOON. THANK YOU MR. KIRSCHNER.

[00:45:03]

AGAIN, I'M ROSE EDMUND AND THIS IS.

>> JARED MORENO.

>> WE WERE THE DISTRICT UIL COORDINATORS.

WE HOSTED ON MAY THE 14TH OVER 500 STUDENTS FROM 14 CAMPUSES HERE AT CROWLEY ISD.

THE STUDENTS COMPETED IN 14 EVENTS FROM READY WRITING WHERE THEY HAD TO WRITE A COMPOSITION ON THE SPOT FROM GIVEN PROMPTS TO STORYTELLING WHERE THEY HAD TO ACT OUT THE STORY.

SPELLING NUMBER SCENES WHERE THEY HAD TO DO COMPUTATIONS WITHOUT ANY SCRATCH PAPER AND [OVERLAPPING] SOCIAL STUDIES AND ALSO WE HAD SPANISH EVENTS ALSO.

WE HAD OVER 14 CAMPUS COORDINATORS AND 75 COACHES THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT THAT CAME AND SUPPORTED THE EVENT.

WITH THE HELP FROM MR. SWANN AND MISS MARIA ANGUIANA WE WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE THIS HUGE TASK THAT BROUGHT OUT MORE THAN 500 PARENTS, MOMS AND DADS, WE HAD GRANDPARENTS THERE.

THEY WERE ABLE TO SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS.

WE WERE VERY EXCITED.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IN TWO YEARS SINCE THE PANDEMIC AND WE JUST HAD A GREAT TIME, WE REALLY DID.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THE PARENTS AND ALL OF THE COORDINATORS, EVERYONE THAT TOOK PART OF IT, THE FOOD PEOPLE, SOUND PEOPLE, CUSTODIANS, EVERYONE.

BY THE WAY, DEER CREEK WON SECOND MOST AWARDS OUT OF THE WHOLE THING.

[APPLAUSE]

>> JACKIE CARDEN ALSO PLACE IN SIX EVENTS.

[LAUGHTER] LIKE WE SAID EARLIER, THERE WERE OVER 500 STUDENTS AND WE ONLY GAVE PLACE FOR FIRST THROUGH SIX.

SO FOR THESE STUDENTS TO PLACE, IT WAS A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THEIR CAMPUS, FOR THEIR COACHES, FOR THEIR PARENTS.

THE SPELLING LIST, I BELIEVE IN THIRD GRADE THEY HAD 30 MINUTES FOR 50 WORDS.

>> SIXTY FIVE.

>> SIXTY FIVE WORDS, IT WAS 50 WORDS WITH 15 BONUSES.

SO THIS WAS A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT.

COACHES, THE TEACHERS ON CAMPUS AND SUPPORT SPECIALISTS, THEY ACTUALLY HAD TO WORK AFTER SCHOOL WITH THE STUDENTS AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO NEXT YEAR.

>> WE WANT TO INTRODUCE SOME OF THESE STUDENTS.

THESE ARE FIRST PLACE WINNERS FROM THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES.

NOT ALL OF THEM COULD BE HERE TONIGHT [APPLAUSE] BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF THEM HERE.

AS I CALL YOUR NAME I WANT YOU TO WAVE YOUR HAND. ALL RIGHT.

SO IN SPELLING, FIRST GRADE AT THE THIRD GRADE LEVEL WAS MS. ABIGAIL FROM DAVIS ELEMENTARY, WAY TO GO ABIGAIL.

[APPLAUSE] FOURTH-GRADE WAS MATTHEW FROM DALLAS PARK, MATTHEW.

[APPLAUSE] FIFTH GRADE WAS TYLER FROM BESS RACE. WAY TO GO TYLER.

[APPLAUSE] LET'S LOOK AT THE SPANISH SPELLING CATEGORY.

WE HAVE HECTOR, THE FIRST PLACE IN FIFTH GRADE. WAY TO GO HECTOR.

[APPLAUSE] IN READY WRITING, THIS IS MY FAVORITE.

THIRD GRADE WE HAVE VICTORIA, WAY TO GO.

[APPLAUSE] FOURTH-GRADE WE HAVE JOI.

[APPLAUSE] IN FIFTH GRADE WE HAVE ALLYE.

[APPLAUSE] SPANISH READY WRITING, OUR FOURTH-GRADE WINNER WAS ANDREA.

[APPLAUSE] THERE YOU ARE.

AT THE FIFTH GRADE LEVEL WAS CAMILLA FROM PARKWAY.

[APPLAUSE] ORAL READING, FIFTH GRADE FROM BESS RACE WE HAVE AARON.

WAY TO GO AARON.

[APPLAUSE] WE ALSO HAVE IN FIFTH GRADE FROM MEADOWCREEK, KENDYL.

[APPLAUSE] WAY TO GO.

IN SPANISH ORAL READING IN FOURTH-GRADE FROM HARGRAVE ELEMENTARY WE HAD AIDEN.

[APPLAUSE] STORYTELLING.

SECOND GRADE FROM DAVIS ELEMENTARY, KENDALL.

[APPLAUSE] THERE SHE IS.

AT THE THIRD GRADE LEVEL WE HAVE JETT FROM DAVIS ELEMENTARY.

[APPLAUSE] IN SPANISH STORYTELLING FROM DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY IN THIRD GRADE, CAMILLA.

[APPLAUSE] WAY TO GO.

IN NUMBER SENSE FOURTH GRADE WINNER FROM DAVIS ELEMENTARY, SHIA.

[APPLAUSE] IN CREATIVE WRITING IN SECOND GRADE FROM MARY HARRIS WE HAVE CALI.

[APPLAUSE] IN SPANISH CREATIVE WRITING IN SECOND GRADE FROM DEER CREEK WE HAD EVELYN.

[NOISE] [APPLAUSE] WAY TO GO.

AT THE THIRD GRADE LEVEL AT SYCAMORE WE HAVE CHRISTIAN.

[APPLAUSE] WAY TO GO CHRISTIAN.

LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST IN SOCIAL STUDIES AT THE FIFTH GRADE LEVEL, OUR FIRST-PLACE WINNER WAS KAMREN.

[00:50:02]

[APPLAUSE] WE'RE SO PROUD OF OUR FIRST GRADE WINNERS AND Y'ALL, IT IS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.

[NOISE] Y'ALL GET TO BE HERE TO CELEBRATE.

PARENTS IN THE AUDIENCE, THANK YOU ALL FOR ALLOWING YOUR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE ACTIVITIES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR AFTER SCHOOL ON SATURDAYS AND COMING UP LATE ON A BOARD NIGHT ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.

WE KNOW WE COULDN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT, SO THANK YOU.

I WANT TO LET YOU ALL TAKE PICTURES OF THEM ALL UP THERE SO I'LL STEP OUT OF THE WAY.

THEN STUDENTS AFTER THE PICTURES ALL OF THE TRUSTEES WANT TO SHAKE YOUR HAND AND GIVE YOU A LITTLE SOMETHING, OKAY? SO YOU ALL SAVE THEIR SMILE FOR YOUR PICTURES, OKAY? [BACKGROUND] [NOISE] LET'S GIVE THEM A HAND WHILE THEY MAKE AROUND.

LET'S GIVE THEM A HAND, WE'RE SO PROUD OF THE STUDENTS.

[APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND]

>> CONGRATULATIONS. [BACKGROUND]

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

[BACKGROUND]

>> CONGRATULATIONS. GOOD JOB.

[BACKGROUND]

>> [BACKGROUND] THIS BRINGS US TO OUR AGENDA ITEM 6.3, MISSION POSSIBLE CHAMPIONS. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE ALSO EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.

MS. AMANDA MCHUGH AND MR. CASEY SMITH WILL BE PRESENTING THIS ITEM. MS. MCHUGH.

>> GOOD EVENING, DR. HALL. DR. MCFARLAND, ESTEEMED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

TONIGHT, WE'RE GOING TO BE SHOWCASING OUR MISSION POSSIBLE FINALS WINNERS, OUR CHAMPIONS.

[00:55:02]

THIS ALIGNS WITH GOAL 1, THRIVING STUDENTS, AND GOAL 2, ENGAGE COMMUNITY.

FIRST OFF, I'D LIKE TO START WITH AN OVERVIEW.

SO THIS IS AN ONGOING DISTRICT EVENT.

IT IS IN ITS FIFTH YEAR AND SO THIS IS A SERVICE BASED PROJECT LEARNING COMPETITION IN WHICH STUDENTS DEVELOP AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION AND THEN PITCH IT TO COMMUNITY JUDGE MEMBERS AS IF THEY'RE ON SHARK TANK.

THIS REALLY DEVELOPS THOSE COLLABORATIVE SKILLS AND IT ALLOWS THE STUDENTS TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX IN INVENTIVE WAYS THAT HELP SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY.

THIS YEAR'S THEME WAS BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY WITH OUR CITY GROWTH DEVELOPMENT.

THEY LOOKED AT BUILDING MATERIALS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, AND TRIED TO DEVELOP INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY AMONGST THAT.

>> CASEY.

>> FOR MISSION POSSIBLE, WE HAD OVER 88 STUDENTS COMPETING, WE HAD 23 TEAMS. WE ALSO HAD 16 SCHOOLS, AND WE HAVE THEM SEPARATED FROM ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY DIVISIONS.

FOR OUR FINALS, WE HAD BESS RACE ELEMENTARY, JACKIE CARDEN, JA HARGRAVE, JUNE DAVIS, AND MEADOWCREEK.

THEN FROM OUR SECONDARY TEAMS REPRESENTING, WE HAD BILL R. JOHNSON CTE CENTER, CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, AND ALSO SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL.

>> TONIGHT WE'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU AND GET OUR WINNERS TO SHOWCASE SOME OF THEIR WORK.

OUR ELEMENTARY DIVISION, OUR FIRST PLACE WINNERS, TEAM MISSION ALLIANCE.

THESE GUYS WERE FROM JUNE W. DAVIS ELEMENTARY, AND THEY'RE GOING TO SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT THEIR PROJECT ON INNOVATIVE GROCERY APP.

>> HI CROWLEY ISD BOARD MEMBERS AND DR. MCFARLAND.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING OUR MISSION POSSIBLE TO SHARE OUR MISSION ALLIANCE SOLUTION.

MY NAME IS KEEVIN MCLIN.

>> MY NAME IS CHRISTINA SOMERVILLE.

>> MY NAME IS NICK RAYBURN.

>> MY NAME IS ALFRED POUNDS.

>> WE NOTICE THAT GROCERY STORES HAVE BEEN RUNNING MULTIPLE PRODUCTS WHEN WE WENT TO SOURCE TO OUR PARENTS.

WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT IT WITH THEIR PARENTS, THEY SAID THAT THIS WAS A BIG PROBLEM EVERYWHERE, BUT ESPECIALLY IN OUR UPPER TOWN WITH ALL THE NEW PEOPLE MOVING HERE AND HOUSES BEING BUILT, WE FOUND OUT A PROBLEM.

>> OUR MISSION POSSIBLE TEAM SOUGHT TO HANDLE THIS CATASTROPHE, NO MORE WASTING TIME GOING TO THE STORE, I THINK YOU WILL LEAVE WITH THE PRODUCTS YOU NEED ONLY TO FIND OUT THEY ARE OUT.

>> OUR SOLUTION, THE GROCERY ALLIANCE APP, THIS SOLUTION WILL USE YOUR LOCATION TO FIND THE NEAREST GROCERY STORES NEARBY AND TELL YOU IF THE ITEM YOU NEED IS IN STORE.

>> NO MORE WASTING TIME GOING TO GROCERY STORES THAT DON'T HAVE ALL THE IMPORTANT ITEMS YOU NEED.

WITH THIS APP, IT'LL ONLY TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO LOCATE THE STORE THAT HAS THE ITEM YOU NEED.

>> IT'S THE STORE LOCATOR TAB, AND IT SHOWS THE THREE CLOSEST STORES TO YOU.

IF YOU GO TO THE STORES TAB, IT WILL SHOW YOU THE THREE TOP VENDORS, WHICH ARE THE CLOSEST STORES TO YOU.

IF YOU CLICK ON EACH STORE, IT WILL SHOW YOU THE PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS FOR EACH STORE.

THE NEXT TAB WE HAVE IS THE ITEMS TAB, WHERE IT WILL SHOW YOU ALL THE ITEMS THAT YOU HAD AND YOU CAN EVEN SEARCH FOR WHATEVER ITEM YOU LIKE.

SO A FAVORITE WE HAVE IS OREOS.

SO IF YOU TYPE IN OREOS, IT WILL POP UP AND YOU CAN CLICK IT.

THEN I'LL SHOW YOU THE PRICE FOR EACH STORE, AND THE SALES PRICE, THE AISLE, AND INVENTORY.

SINCE OUR APP IS A PEOPLE SOURCE APP, YOU CAN EVEN EDIT IT.

YOU'LL BE ABLE TO CHANGE THE PRICE, THE SALES PRICE AND THE INVENTORY.

>> WHAT DOES PEOPLE SOURCE MEAN?

[01:00:02]

>> IT MEANS THAT PEOPLE CAN CHANGE THE APP IF THERE'S ANY INCORRECT INFO OR PRICES.

>> THE NEXT TAB WE HAVE IS A TOTAL COST TAB, WHERE IT WILL SHOW YOU THE TOTAL COST FOR ALL THE GROCERIES YOU HAVE.

IF YOU CLICK ON IT, IT WILL SHOW YOU THE TOTAL PRICE FOR WALMART IS ABOUT $90, BUT YOU WON'T GET THE OREOS YOU CRAVED.

[LAUGHTER] FOR WALMART, IT'S ABOUT $80, BUT YOU WON'T GET THE REAL BEER YOU REALLY WANTED.

FOR TOM THUMB, IT'S ABOUT $100, BUT YOU WON'T GET THE TAKEAWAYS YOU CRAVED.

>> THANK YOU, DEAN DAVIS. [APPLAUSE]

>> SO I HAVE A QUESTION.

CAN WE PUT ANY ITEM IN THAT IT TELLS US OR IS IT THE ITEMS THAT THEY LOAD IN?

>> CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION, PLEASE?

>> CAN I PUT ANY ITEM IN? IF I'M SEARCHING FOR ANY ITEM, I CAN JUST PUT IT IN OR DO YOU ALL HAVE TO PUT THE ITEMS IN BEFORE?

>> YOU CAN JUST PUT THE ITEM IN YOURSELF AND IT SHOULD FIND IT FOR YOU FOR EACH STORE.

>> GOT YOU. IF I WAS LOOKING FOR BABY FORMULA, CAN I FIND OUT WHAT STORE IT'S IN? [LAUGHTER] WOW, YOU MAKE IT REAL TODAY.

[LAUGHTER]

>> YEAH, THEY WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS WITH THAT APP.

[APPLAUSE] THEN OUR SECONDARY DIVISION, OUR WINNERS WERE CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEY HAD AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION WITH LANDFILL WASTE IN A BIOFUEL REACTOR.

DO YOU GUYS WANT TO COME SHARE? [APPLAUSE]

>> HI. MY NAME IS [INAUDIBLE] WILLIAMS AND OUR PROJECT IS OVER BIOREACTORS.

A BIOREACTOR IS A VESSEL USED TO GROW AEROBIC AND ANAEROBIC CELLS FOR CELLULAR WASTE AND IT HELPS REMOVE THE WASTE FROM OUR ENVIRONMENT.

>> HI, MY NAME IS LEAH.

[LAUGHTER] THE PROBLEM WHY WE CREATED THIS PROJECT IS BECAUSE LANDFILLS IN AMERICA, THEY ARE BECOMING BIGGER AND BIGGER AS LIFE GOES ON.

AS THEY BECOME BIGGER, THEY HAVE MORE OF A POLLUTION THAT IS CREATED WITH THEM.

BUT THIS ONE, THIS BIOREACTOR THAT WE HAVE MADE IS A LANDFILL ALSO BUT IT ONLY TAKES 10 YEARS TO DECOMPOSE, WHEN IN A REGULAR LANDFILL, IT WOULD TAKE OVER 100 YEARS TO DECOMPOSE.

>> MY NAME IS TAYLOR. HELLO. THIS SOLUTION IS TO USING A BIOREACTOR BECAUSE IT GETS RID OF TOXIC WASTE AND WATER WASTE.

WE THOUGHT OF THE IDEA OF BRINGING ONE HERE BECAUSE IN THE DFW AREA THERE'S A LOT OF MORE CONSTRUCTION.

SO BRINGING A BIOREACTOR COULD HELP REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF POLLUTION GOING INTO LANDFILLS, AND WHATEVER SOIL IS IN THE GROUND CAN THEN BE REUSED BECAUSE THERE'S NO POLLUTANTS IN IT.

>> WHY WE CREATED TO HELP THIS IS WE HAVE A CHS ANNUAL TRASH BASH IS TO WHERE KIDS WHEN THEY NEED EXTRA CREDITS OR THEY'RE BEHIND ON CREDIT, THEY COULD COME AND THEY CAN, INSTEAD OF JUST SITTING IN THE CLASSROOM GETTING THEIR CREDIT, THEY CAN JUST DO THE TRASH BASH AND THEN YOU GET LUNCH PROVIDED.

YOU CAN HAVE OPTION TO WIN A PRIZE, [LAUGHTER] THEY'RE A RAFFLE, AND IT'S INDUSTRY DISCOVERY.

[APPLAUSE]

>> [APPLAUSE] FOR THE FINALS, WHAT THE STUDENTS HAD TO DO WAS THEY HAD TO ADD A VOLUNTEER COMPONENT ON HOW TO ENGAGE OUR COMMUNITY AS PART OF THEIR FINAL ADVANCEMENT AND SO THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE SHOWCASING AS A PROPOSAL TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN THEIR SOLUTIONS.

THANK YOU, CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

[01:05:01]

[APPLAUSE]

>> WE'D ALSO LIKE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY MENTORS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DID DIFFERENT THIS YEAR WITH OUR MISSION POSSIBLE WAS WE REACHED OUT TO SOME COMMUNITY MENTORS TO PARTNER UP WITH OUR STUDENTS.

WE HAD SOME MENTORS FROM TARRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TO COME IN AND WORK WITH SOME OF OUR TEAMS. WE HAVE A LOT OF MENTORS UP THERE.

THE FEW THAT I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT WERE HIGHLIGHTED, THEY SERVED AS A MENTOR AND ALSO AS A JUDGE.

THEY HAD TO DO SOME DOUBLE DUTY.

MAGGIE JONES, SHE'S THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY AT TARRANT COUNTY.

SHE IS ALSO VERY BIG BECAUSE SHE'S VERY INSTRUMENTAL IN GETTING MANY OF THESE MENTORS THAT YOU SEE UP ON THE LIST.

BRAD HEARNE, WHO'S THE PROGRAM MANAGER FOR TARRANT COUNTY AND THEN ALSO JAMES MCCLINTON, WHO IS THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR TARRANT COUNTY.

I'LL ALSO LIKE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO OUR COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

YOU HAVE DR. JOSHUA SEDILLO.

YOU HAVE ROBERT GILLIES.

YOU GOT DR. ANNETTE DUVALL, THALIA PEREZ, DR. MARKEBA WARFIELD, DR. CLARENCE WILLIAMS, AMANDA MCCUE, WHO DID AN AWESOME JOB GETTING ALL THIS ORGANIZED AND THEN MYSELF, BUT COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THE WHOLE COMMITTEE AND ALL OF OUR MENTORS AND LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT WE SEE NEXT YEAR.

THANK YOU [APPLAUSE]

>> WELL, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EXTRA TIME THAT YOU DEDICATE TO OUR STUDENTS IN MAKING THIS POSSIBLE AND DEFINITELY WANT TO SHOUT OUT THE STUDENTS THROUGH YOUR CREATIVITY AND YOUR DEDICATION BECAUSE THE PROJECTS WERE AMAZING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING TONIGHT AND PRESENTING THEM TO US AND CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WINS AND YOUR VICTORY.

LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR.

[APPLAUSE] ENJOY YOUR SUMMER.

[LAUGHTER] THIS NOW BRINGS US TO AGENDA ITEM 6.4, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCIENCE COMMUNITY PARTNER APPRECIATION, MR. GINNI THIEBAUD. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS.

WE HAVE MISS LINDA MARISOL HERE TO PRESENT THIS NEXT ITEM, ALONG WITH STUDENTS AT DEAN ROSS AS WELL. THANK YOU.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, DR. MCFARLAND, BOARD MEMBERS.

I AM SO EXCITED TO BE HERE FOR ELEMENTARY SCIENCE.

IF WE CAN GO TO MY SLIDE, THERE WE GO.

TO GIVE YOU SOME BACKGROUND, IN ELEMENTARY SCIENCE WE ARE WATCHING LIFECYCLES IN EVERY GRADE.

IT DEPENDS ON THE TEAK ONTO WHICH LIFE-CYCLE WE CHOOSE.

IN KINDERGARTEN, THEY GROW LIMA BEANS AND IN FIRST GRADE, THEY WATCH A CHICKEN LIFE CYCLE, WHICH YOU'VE PROBABLY HEARD FROM OUR FRIENDS OVER HERE.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE HIGHLIGHTING TODAY.

SECOND GRADE, WE WATCHED THE BUTTERFLY LIFE CYCLE, AND IN THIRD GRADE, WE JUST ROLLED OUT THIS YEAR. IT'S SO EXCITING.

THEY WATCHED A PUMPKIN DECOMPOSE IN THE JAR.

THEY WATCHED IT THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR FROM OCTOBER UNTIL JUST LAST WEEK.

SOME OF THEM EVEN SPROUTED, SO THEY GOT TO SEE THE WHOLE LIFE CYCLE OF THE PUMPKIN.

BUT WE WERE MAINLY WATCHING FOR HOW THE PUMPKIN BECAME PART OF THE SOIL BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE TEAK SAYS.

NEXT YEAR IN FOURTH GRADE, WE'RE GOING TO ROLL OUT LADY BEETLES, ALSO KNOWN AS LADY BUGS, AND IN FIFTH GRADE WE'RE GOING TO ROLL OUT OWL PELLETS WHERE WE'LL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT THE OWL HAS EATEN.

WE'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THE LIFE CYCLES.

I KNOW [LAUGHTER] AND I GET GITTY TALKING ABOUT THIS WITH YOU.

[LAUGHTER] NEXT YEAR OUT INSTEAD OF SOME LIVE CHICKS, I'LL BRING IN SOME BONES FOR YOU.

[LAUGHTER] I'M SUPER EXCITED TO TALK TO YOU, BUT OUR MAIN FOCUS FOR BEING HERE IS GINNI THIEBAUD.

UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO ILLNESS, GINNI WAS UNABLE TO JOIN US TONIGHT, BUT Y'ALL, SHE'S A COMMUNITY MEMBER THAT LIVES IN BURLINGTON.

SHE GROWS CHICKENS.

SHE GIVES US OVER 400 EGGS A YEAR.

I WAS REALLY LOOKING THE OTHER DAY ON AMAZON, THOSE WOULD COST ME TWO DOLLARS AN EGG.

THAT'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SHE GIVES TO US.

ALL SHE WANTS IN RETURN ARE PRECIOUS PICTURES LIKE YOU SEE UP HERE.

SHE JUST WANTS TO SEE THE CHILDREN LEARNING.

THESE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I HAVE HAD CHICKS IN THE MONTESSORI.

BUT WE DO SERVE ALL 15 CAMPUSES.

WE SEND OUR SUPPLIES EVERY 21 DAYS TO A NEW CAMPUS AND THEY WATCH THE CHICKS HATCH.

THEY'VE BEEN IN OUR MONTESSORI PROGRAM, WHICH IS NEW TO US.

WE'RE SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE SOME FRIENDS BE OUR CHICKEN HANDLERS TONIGHT.

THEY'RE GOING TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE CHICKS, BUT ALSO GINNI THIEBAUD NOT ONLY GAVE US ALL OF THESE EGGS, BUT YOU'LL NOTICE THERE'S THE GIANT CHICK OVER THERE.

SHE NEEDED EGG CARTONS.

SHE SAID, WOULD YOU ALL PLEASE COLLECT EGG CARTONS AND IN RETURN,

[01:10:01]

I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU THIS GIANT CHICK AND THE FIRST GRADERS GOT TO SIT IN HIS LAP AND HAVE HIM IN THEIR CLASSROOM THE ENTIRE YEAR AND READ WITH HIM AND SO HE IS GOING TO BE IN THE CLASSROOMS FROM NOW ON BECAUSE OF GINNI THIEBAUD.

I'M TERRIBLY SAD THAT SHE COULD NOT BE HERE BECAUSE SHE IS SO GIVING FOR NO REASON EXCEPT, SHE HASN'T EVEN ASKED FOR THESE CHICKS BACK BY THE WAY, I SEND THEM TO A TEACHER AT JUNE DAVIS AND THEY GO TO THEIR FOREVER HOME.

WE HAVE CHICKEN HANDLERS FROM OUR MONTESSORI.

THESE GUYS ARE FOUR AND FIVE AND SIX AND SEVEN YEARS OLD.

THEY'RE GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU SOME CHICKS.

MEANWHILE, DEAN IS GOING TO COME SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT HIS LEARNINGS AND HE HAS A SLIDE.

DEAN HAS PREPARED THIS SLIDE FOR YOU AND HE HAS PREPARED HIS SPEECH.

ALL RIGHT, DEAN. THE FLOOR IS YOURS, BUDDY.

>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD MEMBERS.

I'M GOING TO BE SHOWING WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT THE CHICKS.

HOW THEY HATCH AND WHAT THEIR BEHAVIOR IS.

THE CHICKS INSIDE THE EGGS, IT TAKES 21 DAYS FOR THE BABY CHICK TO FORM INSIDE THE EGG AND BE READY TO HATCH.

AT THE VERY BEGINNING, IT IS A VERY SMALL BLACK DOT AND THEN IT GROWS INTO A [INAUDIBLE] LIKE LOOKING FEATHERLESS THING.

[LAUGHTER]

>> I'M JUST GOING TO BRING IT DOWN. THERE YOU GO.

>> THEN AS IT GETS BIGGER, IT GROWS FEET AND THE BODY GETS BIGGER.

IT GROWS FEATHERS TOO.

THERE IS A BABY CHICK INSIDE IF THERE IS A BLACK DOT, OTHERWISE THERE WILL JUST BE A YOLK.

THE BABY CHICK WERE KEPT INSIDE AN INCUBATOR BECAUSE IT KEPT THE EGGS AT THE PERFECT TEMPERATURE.

HOW CHICKS ARE BORN.

THEY USE THEIR SPECIAL AREA ON THEIR BEAK AND THEIR BACK LEGS TO GET OUT OF THE EGG.

THEY WILL BE WET.

CHICKS BEHAVIOR AFTER THEY COME OUT OF EGG.

THE CHICKS STAY IN THE INCUBATOR UNTIL THEIR FEATHERS DRY.

THEY HAVE ENERGY AND WANT TO EXPLORE.

CHICKS HELP OTHER CHICKS GET OUT OF THE EGG.

THE CHICKS GO INSIDE A BROODER WITH A HEATING LAMP.

THEY NO LONGER NEED THE YOLK FOR FOOD.

THEY RELY ON REGULAR FOOD AND WATER.

THAT IS THE END OF MY PRESENTATION.

[APPLAUSE].

>> GOOD JOB, DEAN. TURN AROUND HERE SO THEY CAN SEE YOU.

SO AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND ANY CHILD THAT WANTED TO SPEAK TO A ROOM FULL OF GROWN-UPS.

WE'RE VERY PROUD OF DEAN.

OUR CHICKEN HANDLERS WOULD LIKE TO SHOW YOU THE CHICKS AND TELL YOU WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED.

THEY HAVE A CHICK IN A BUCKET THAT THEY'LL BRING UP TO YOU AND THEN IF YOU WANT TO HOLD THEM, WE DO HAVE A HAND SANITIZER AND EVERYTHING READY TO GO FOR YOU.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HOLD THE CHICKS, THAT CHILDREN ARE READY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THE CHICKS.

[BACKGROUND]

[01:16:00]

YES, DEFINITELY WIPE YOUR HANDS.

THEY DO, THEY MIGHT CARRY DISEASE, SO WASH YOUR HANDS.

THIS SHALL GO DOWN AS THE MOST MEMORABLE BOARD MEETING IN HISTORY [LAUGHTER].

THEY AREN'T GETTING THERE.

I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE DEEP ENOUGH TOO.

I'D JUST LIKE TO CLOSE BY SAYING, IT IS OUR GOAL IN ELEMENTARY SCIENCE THAT ONE DAY WHEN THESE KIDS ARE 30 YEARS OLD, THEY'LL LOOK BACK AND GO, I REMEMBER GROWING CHICKS WHEN I WAS IN FIRST GRADE OR I REMEMBER GROWING BUTTERFLIES.

THAT'S OUR GOAL, IS, REMEMBER IT EVEN WHEN YOU'RE 30-40 YEARS OLD LIKE THE REST OF US.

THANK YOU SO MUCH BOARD MEMBERS FOR PARTICIPATING WITH OUR CHICKENS.

WE APPRECIATE IT [APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR EXCITEMENT.

YOU ALWAYS MAKE SCIENCE SO MUCH FUN.

THIS WILL BE A MEMORABLE BOARD MEETING.

>> THANK YOU.

>> FOR SURE WE WANT TO GIVE CANDY TO THE STUDENTS IF THAT'S OKAY?

>> YES.

>> I KNOW THEY CAN SAVE IT AND EAT IT LATER.

THEY NEED TO WASH HANDS, BUT IF THEY COULD COME BY AND LET US GIVE THEM SOME CANDY, WE WOULD REALLY LOVE TO [BACKGROUND]

>> I WOULD LIKE TO ECHO DR. HALL'S SEDIMENTS AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT I WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS [LAUGHTER]

>> GOOD ONE GARY.

>> THANKS.

>> THIS BRINGS US DOWN TO OUR REPORT ITEMS AGENDA ITEM 7.1,

[7.0 Report Item(s)]

SAFE SUMMER COMMUNITY FEEDBACK. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE STARTING SUMMER TOMORROW OR ACTUALLY IT'S ALREADY STARTED SO TODAY IS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, AND SO WE KNOW THAT SUMMER IS STARTING.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE WANTED TO DO THIS YEAR IS WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DO EVERYTHING THAT WE COULD TO MAKE SURE THAT THE KIDS HAD A SAFE SUMMER.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE DID WAS WE STARTED TO ASK QUESTIONS FROM OUR STUDENTS REALLY ABOUT SAFETY AND THINGS THAT WE COULD DO WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY TO ENSURE THEY ARE SAFE.

NOW WE KNOW BASED ON RECENT EVENTS THAT SAFETY IS A KEY ISSUE FOR ALL OF US AND SO WE ARE TALKING TONIGHT ABOUT SOME THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING IN PREPARATION FOR SUMMER.

BUT IN ESSENCE, OUR GOAL IS IN A MORE LONG-TERM WAY, IS TO REALLY FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN MAINTAIN A SAFE OR SAFER ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR KIDS WHILE THEY'RE IN SCHOOLS AND WHILE THEY'RE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

MISS DOUGLAS WILL PRESENT ON THAT ITEM TONIGHT. MISS DOUGLAS.

>> DR. HALL, DR. MCFARLAND, ESTEEMED TRUSTEES THIS PRESENTATION ALIGNS TO ALL THREE OF OUR GOALS, THRIVING STUDENTS, ENGAGE COMMUNITY, AND EMPOWERED STAFF.

I'D LIKE TO BEGIN WITH A TIMELINE OF THE WORK.

THIS TIMELINE SPANS OCTOBER LAST YEAR THROUGH APRIL OF THIS YEAR.

IN OCTOBER, WE BEGAN A CONVERSATION VIA ZOOM WITH OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF TO REVIEW OUR SAFETY PROTOCOLS FROM THE FIRST QUARTER.

[01:20:06]

WE PUSHED OUT SURVEYS IN NOVEMBER AND AS A RESULT OF THE SURVEYS AND THE MEETINGS THAT WE HAD HAD, WE DID MAKE SOME CHANGES TO OUR SAFETY PROTOCOLS ON CAMPUS.

WE ADDED HALL MONITORS, REVIEWED THE WAY WE ENTERED AND EXITED OUR PARKING LOTS, AND ALSO INCREASED OUR CANINE SEARCHES.

WE CONTINUED TO MEET VIA ZOOM THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR, AND IN MARCH, WE WERE ABLE TO HOLD FORMATIVE MEETINGS WITH CROWLEY ISD, LPD, AND WITH FORT WORTH POLICE DEPARTMENTS.

BY MID-APRIL, WE HAD COMPILED A LIST OF STUDENTS FOR WHOM WE HAD VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS AND WE WERE ABLE TO ENGAGE OUR COUNSELORS AND OUR SEL STAFF, AND OUR GRADUATION COACHES AND OTHERS TO HELP US FORMULATE A PLAN TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH THOSE STUDENTS.

AT THE END OF APRIL, THE 27TH, 28TH, AND 29TH, WE HELD A SERIES OF MEETINGS.

THE FIRST WAS WITH KEY COMMUNITY INFLUENCERS AND CONNECTORS.

THE NEXT MEETING WAS WITH FAITH-BASED LEADERS, AND THE LAST MEETING IN APRIL WAS WITH OUR COUNTY AND CITY ELECTED OFFICIALS.

AS SUMMER APPROACHED, WE ACCELERATED THE WORK DURING THE MONTH OF MAY.

WE LAUNCHED A SAFE SUMMER STUDENTS SURVEY VIA QR CODE ON ALL OF OUR SECONDARY CAMPUSES.

WE ALSO SURVEYED PARENTS.

WE HOSTED OUR THIRD PODCAST AND REALLY JUST ENGAGE WITH THE STUDENTS AND ASK THEM QUESTIONS AND LISTENED TO THEIR VOICES.

WE HAD TARGETED PHONE CALLS, SO WE PICKED UP THE PHONE AND ACTUALLY TALKED WITH 64 PARENTS ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON FOR THEIR KIDS IN THE SUMMER AND ASK THEM WHAT THEY NEEDED.

WE MET WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS AND REACHED OUT TO COMMUNITY YOUTH GROUP LEADERS.

WE HAVE DIS-AGGREGATED THE INFORMATION, THE DATA, AND CRYSTALLIZE THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND I WANT TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU NOW.

THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-TWO STUDENTS RESPONDED TO OUR SAFE STUDENT SURVEY.

YOU'LL SEE THE PERCENTAGES THERE MOSTLY HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED. NEXT SLIDE.

WE ASKED THEM, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE SUMMER? THE MAJORITY OF OUR KIDS SAID THAT THEY WOULD BE WORKING.

BUT AS WE BEGAN TO READ THROUGH THE COMMENTS, WE REALIZE THEY WANT TO WORK.

NOT ALL OF THEM NECESSARILY HAVE A JOB.

NOT ALL OF THEM KNOW WHERE THEY WILL BE WORKING, BUT THAT IS THEIR DESIRE.

THE NEXT QUESTION WE ASKED, WHAT DOES YOUR IDEAL SAFE SPACE LOOK LIKE? THEY SAID IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A QUIET OPEN SPACE TO CHILL, TO LISTEN TO MUSIC.

THEY SAID THERE WERE FRIENDS THERE AND THERE WAS DEFINITELY FOOD, OPEN GYM, SOMEPLACE TO HANG OUT.

WE ASKED OUR STUDENTS WHAT WAS THE GREATEST THREAT TO THEIR SAFETY THIS SUMMER.

THIS LIST SHOWS IN ORDER WHAT THEY SAID.

WE ALSO CREATED A GRAPHIC THAT WOULD GIVE US A VISUAL.

GUNS, PEOPLE, THEY SAID THINGS LIKE PEOPLE WHO HAVE CONFLICTS WITH ONE ANOTHER.

WHETHER WE HAD STUDENTS WHO SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE AIR CONDITIONING.

WE HAD STUDENTS WHO SAID THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT OVERHEATING, ISOLATION PARTIES.

NOW FOR THE PARENTS, WE ASKED THE PARENTS, WILL YOUR CHILD BE PARTICIPATING IN ANY ORGANIZED PROGRAMS THIS SUMMER? FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVE PARENTS RESPONDED AND THIS IS IN MID-MAY.

MOST PARENTS SAID THEY WEREN'T SURE.

WHEN WE ASKED THEM HOW CAN CROWLEY ISD SUPPORT THEM, THEY SAID THEY NEEDED PROGRAMS. THEY NEEDED TRANSPORTATION TO THOSE PROGRAMS AND FINANCES TO HELP THEM THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER.

THEY NEEDED MEALS AND THEY REALLY LEANED INTO SOME SPORTS ACTIVITIES.

WHEN WE ASK THEM WHAT THE BARRIERS WERE, VERY SIMILAR.

THE BARRIERS WERE THEY NEED TRANSPORTATION TO GET TO THE PROGRAMS, THEIR SCHEDULES, THEY'RE WORKING PARENTS, AND SO THEY HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THAT.

THESE ARE THE GRAPHICS THAT ACCOMPANY THOSE LIST. WHAT'S NEXT? WE WANT TO CREATE A SAFE SPACE, JUST LIKE OUR KIDS ASKED FOR.

WE KNOW WE HAVE BUILDINGS OUR BUILDINGS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING AND WE CAN PROVIDE FOOD.

WE FEEL LIKE THAT'S EASY WHEN LOW-HANGING FRUIT.

WE KNOW THAT WE CAN ENSURE POLICE PRESENCE ON THAT CAMPUS.

[01:25:01]

WE CAN ENSURE THAT THERE ARE HEALTH SERVICES PRESENT.

WE CAN CREATE THAT MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AND HAVE STAFF AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE SUPERVISION AND MENTORING FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

ALSO FOR ALL OF THOSE KIDS WHO SAID THEY WANTED TO WORK, WE CAN PROVIDE SOME JOB COACHING AND SOME FIELD EXPERIENCES, WHETHER IT'S FIELD TRIPS OR PLACES TO GO MAYBE TO LOOK FOR WORK.

ALSO NEXT STEPS, WE WANT TO TAKE THE COMPLETE SURVEY, EVERYTHING THAT WE LEARNED, EVERYTHING THAT WE NOW KNOW OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY AND HAVE WHAT WE'RE CALLING US SOLUTIONS SUMMIT SO THAT THE COMMUNITY KNOWS WHAT OUR PARENTS SAID, WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAID.

WE WANT TO LISTEN TO THEM AND FIND OUT IF THERE ARE OTHER SOLUTIONS THAT THEY HAVE THAT WE DON'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT AND THEN BE ABLE TO SHARE THOSE WITH OUR KIDS AND WITH THE FAMILIES.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE HEALTH AND MENTAL WELLNESS OPPORTUNITIES, THAT THERE ARE PLACES THAT ARE WAITING AND AVAILABLE TO HELP KIDS AND TO HELP FAMILIES.

LASTLY, WE WANT TO HAVE A JOB FAIR THIS SUMMER.

AGAIN, THE MAJORITY OF OUR KIDS WANT TO WORK.

WE WANT TO HAVE A SUMMER JOB FAIR FOR OUR TEENS AND GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET EMPLOYERS FACE TO FACE TO FILL OUT APPLICATIONS.

WE HAVE COMPUTERS ON CAMPUS, AND SO WE WANT TO WALK THEM THROUGH THAT PROCESS AND HELP THEM FIND WORK THIS SUMMER.

ALSO, WE'VE REACHED OUT TO VARIOUS COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

CROWLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET.

OPEN SPACE WITH COMPUTERS, WITH AIR CONDITIONING.

OUR STUDENTS ARE WELCOME THERE.

CHISHOLM TRAIL COMMUNITY CENTER.

THE RYAN FAMILY YMCA HAS SAID TO US THAT THEY WOULD OFFER REDUCED MEMBERSHIPS FOR OUR KIDS DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE AND JULY.

PLANET FITNESS HAS SAID THAT ANY TEENAGER CAN COME THERE AND WORK OUT ALL SUMMER LONG FROM MAY 16TH TO AUGUST 31ST.

ANY TEEN CAN WORK OUT FOR FREE ALL SUMMER LONG.

WE WANT OUR KIDS TO KNOW THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS HERE FOR THEM, THAT THERE ARE PLACES THAT THEY CAN GO AND THINGS THAT WE CAN OFFER.

WE WANT TO ADD THESE THINGS TO THE WEBSITES SO FAMILIES CAN EASILY GO TO THE WEBSITE IF THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO.

THEY CAN KNOW THAT CROWLEY ISD IS HERE TO SUPPORT THEM.

THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU, MS. EAGLES. TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> THANK YOU. LET ME FIRST SAY KUDOS TO YOU AND YOUR STAFF FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ASK THE QUESTIONS.

I THINK SOMETIMES WHEN WE ARE PRESENTING PROGRAMMING, WE OFTENTIMES OFFER WHAT WE THINK PEOPLE WANT VERSUS TAKING TIME TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE NEED.

THE FACT THAT WE DID THE SURVEYS AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS TO HEAR FROM THE STUDENTS AND ALSO HEAR FROM THE PARENTS, I COMMEND YOU FOR THAT.

MY QUESTION IS, DO WE HAVE A TARGETED DAY FOR THE JOB FAIR? HOW SOON ARE WE LOOKING TO TO IMPLEMENT THAT? BECAUSE NOW THAT WE'RE IN SUMMER, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHILE THE STUDENTS KNOW THAT WE ARE WORKING IN THEIR BEHALF TO TRY TO PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO WORK, I THINK IT WOULD JUST BE NECESSARY FOR US TO DO THAT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

DO WE HAVE A TARGET DATE FOR THE JOB FAIR?

>> WE WILL ACTUALLY BE COMING OUT WITH A DATE PROBABLY EARLY NEXT WEEK.

WE'RE LOOKING AT THE MID JUNE, AROUND JUNE 14TH-15TH, BUT WE'LL SOLIDIFY THAT.

THE OTHER THING IS THE DATE FOR THE SOLUTION SUMMIT.

WE WANTED TO GET WITH YOU-ALL BOARD TO SEE.

WE WERE LOOKING AT POSSIBLY JUNE 6TH OR 7TH, AND SO WE WANT TO CHECK YOUR CALENDARS.

TWO OF OUR CHURCHES HAVE VOLUNTEERED THEIR SPACE AND WE WILL DEFINITELY FOLLOW UP, BUT WE WANT TO GET YOUR FLEXIBILITY FIRST.

BUT JUNE 14TH-15TH DURING THAT TIME PERIOD IS WHEN WE'D TO DO THE JOB THERE.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? TRUSTEE, NETHEL.

>> I'LL JUST ECHO TRUSTEE DAVIS' COMMENTS ABOUT WONDERFUL VISION, WONDERFUL STRATEGIC PLAN.

MY ONLY QUESTION, I KNOW WE SURVEYED THE SIXTH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS AND OF COURSE OUR SENIORS, MAYBE 11TH AND 12TH ARE THE ONES THAT WOULD BE ABLE TO WORK, DO WE HAVE ANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE YOUNGER STUDENTS FOR ORGANIZED COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS DURING THE SUMMER? MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN INVITED TO TWO IN ARLINGTON.

I'D RATHER HER PARTICIPATE CLOSER TO HOME AND CONTRIBUTE.

BUT IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE COULD CONSIDER AS WELL?

>> DEFINITELY CAN CONSIDER COMMUNITY SERVICE.

I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GREAT THING TO ADD.

EASY [OVERLAPPING] THING TO ADD. THANK YOU.

[01:30:02]

>> OKAY.

>> THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE LYONS.

>> ALSO, I'M EXCITED.

I SEE A LOT OF THINGS THAT YOU GUYS HAVE PLANNED AND I THINK THAT OUR KIDS WOULD BENEFIT FROM IT.

BUT MY QUESTION IS THE PLANET FITNESS, IS THAT GOING TO BE FOR THE STUDENTS?

>> NO, MA'AM. I STOPPED OVER TO PLANET FITNESS BECAUSE I HEARD IT ONLINE AND THEY HAVE FLYERS EVERYWHERE, FREE ALL SUMMER LONG FOR KIDS.

THEY HAVE BANNERS AND FLYERS.

ACTUALLY THE MANAGER THERE WAS A CROWLEY STUDENT AND HE SAID HE USED TO COME TO PLANET FITNESS.

NO CHARGE. FREE ALL SUMMER LONG.

>> ALL RIGHT. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM TRUSTEES?

>> I HAVE ONE.

>> TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

>> THANK YOU AGAIN FOR LOOKING INTO THESE SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR TEENS AND ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE AGE GAP, JUST FROM A PERSONAL NOTE.

I HAVE CHILDREN ON TWO ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM.

I HAVE A 15 YEAR-OLD AND A NINE YEAR-OLD.

IT'S EASIER FOR ME TO FIND ACTIVITIES FOR MY NINE YEAR-OLD IN SUMMER CAMPS AND DAY CAMPS VERSUS THE 15 YEAR-OLD, BECAUSE THEY'VE AGED OUT OF THE COMMUNITY CENTERS.

WHEN LOOKING AT THE JOB FAIRS, ARE THERE JOBS AVAILABLE FOR 15 YEAR-OLDS? I KNOW A FEW COMPANIES DO HIRE, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, 15 YEAR-OLDS DON'T HAVE VERY MUCH TO PARTICIPATE IN.

THEN WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THAT 13-15 YEAR-OLD RANGE, THERE'S NOT MUCH FOR THEM TO DO.

EVEN WHEN YOU HELD UP THE FLYER, I KNOW EVERYONE PROBABLY GOING TO SEE IT, BUT IT SAID 14-19.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE 13 YEAR-OLDS? [LAUGHTER] THEY'RE OFTEN LEFT AT HOME DURING THE SUMMER.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO BRIDGE THAT GAP FOR THAT MIDDLE SCHOOL, EARLY HIGH SCHOOL AGE GROUP THAT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO WORK, BUT THEY ALSO MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND COMMUNITY CENTERS BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO OLD FOR ONE, TOO YOUNG FOR THE OTHER.

>> THESE ARE EXACTLY THE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'RE HAVING WITH THE TEAM.

WE WILL DEFINITELY HAVE OPEN GYM AND SPACE FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OUR SAFE SPACE CONCEPT.

I'M EXCITED TO DO SOME RESUME PREP.

THE COMMUNITY SERVICE WOULD BE GREAT TO GO ON A RESUME SO THAT AS SOON AS YOU TURN 16, YOU HAVE SOMETHING ON YOUR RESUME AND YOU CAN GO TO WORK.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, TRUSTEE MATHEW?

>> I DO. EVERYONE TOOK A DIFFERENT APPROACH THAN TO WHAT I DO AND THAT'S NOT DIFFERENT THAN NORMAL.

BUT WHAT I WILL SAY IS THAT IT'S VERY EYE-OPENING FOR ME BECAUSE I WOULD FEEL TODAY WOULD BE THE EXCITING DAY.

WE'RE GETTING READY FOR THE SUMMER.

SUMMER FOR ME MEANT THAT WHILE IT WASN'T EVERY YEAR, BUT I DID GET TO GO ON VACATIONS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

I'M NOT THE AVERAGE PERSON AND I KNOW THAT.

IT'S REALLY HARD FOR ME TO SEE THESE YOUNG KIDS THAT NOW THEY DON'T HAVE A SUPPORT GROUP, NOW THEY DON'T HAVE MEALS EVERY DAY, NOW THEY DON'T HAVE INTERNET OR WHATEVER.

IT'S JUST VERY EYE-OPENING TO ME AND IT'S VERY UNFORTUNATE.

I DO HAVE THREE OR FOUR AC UNITS THAT I CAN GIVE YOU-ALL IF YOU CAN FIND A WAY.

>> WE CAN FIND A WAY.

>> MY SENTIMENTS ECHO THOSE FROM MR. GRACIAS WITH REGARDS TO THE GREATEST THREAT OF SAFETY THIS SUMMER.

I HAVE TO SAY, SPEAKING FROM MY PERSONAL IMMEDIATE AND LOCAL THAT, MY SON IS HOME FROM COLLEGE.

ONE OF MY GREATEST FEARS IS THE VIOLENCE THAT WE'RE EXPERIENCING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND TO SEE THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING GUNS IS THE NUMBER ONE THING THAT THEY'RE MOST AFRAID OF.

JUST REALLY HITS HOME AND RESONATES WITH ME.

I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE ACTIVITIES THAT WE HAVE SET ASIDE AND I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE PRODUCTIVITY, DR. MCFARLAND, YOUR TEAMS, THEIR GOALS, FOR HAVING SOLUTIONS FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THE INSPIRATION TO FIND ACTIVITIES FOR THOSE THAT WE DON'T HAVE.

I DO WANT TO DRAW OUR ATTENTION BACK TO THE GUN SAFETY PIECE.

DR. MCFARLAND, I KNOW THAT THERE'S SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE WORKING ON.

BUT I DO WANT TO ASSURE OUR FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITY ABOUT OUR COMMITMENT TO BEING A PART OF THE SOLUTION OR DEFINITELY A PART OF THE CONVERSATION WITH OUR CITY LEADERS AND OUR FAITH-BASED LEADERS ABOUT THAT.

[01:35:01]

I JUST WANTED TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THAT.

I DIDN'T WANT THAT TO PASS BECAUSE I THINK THAT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S WEIGHING HEAVILY ON MY HEART, I KNOW IT'S WEIGHING VERY HEAVILY ON OUR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY AS WELL AS OUR STUDENTS EMBARK ON THEIR FIRST DAY OF SUMMER TOMORROW.

IF THERE ARE NO OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD, I WANT TO THANK YOU, MS. EAGLES FOR YOUR PRESENTATION AND AGAIN, FOR THE GREAT THINGS THAT YOU'RE DOING AND FOR THE PRODUCTIVITY TO TRUSTEE D.

DAVIS'S POINT ABOUT BEING PROACTIVE AND ASKING OTHER QUESTIONS BEFORE FINDING THE SOLUTIONS.

THANK YOU. WE WILL GENERALLY BE MOVING TOWARDS AGENDA ITEM 7.0, WHICH WOULD BE OUR OPEN FORUM.

BUT WE DO NOT HAVE ANYONE SIGNED UP FOR OPEN FORUM TONIGHT, WHICH WILL MOVE US THEN INTO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[9.0 Consent Agenda]

ARE THERE ANY CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS THAT TRUSTEES HAVE ANY QUESTIONS [NOISE] OR WOULD LIKE MAYBE REMOVED FROM THE AGENDA TO BE VOTED ON SEPARATELY? IF THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR A CONSENT AGENDA, IS THERE A MOTION?

>> I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

>> THANK YOU FOR YOUR MOTION FOR APPROVAL.

TRUSTEE DAVIS, IS THERE A SECOND?

>> SECOND.

>> WE HAVE A SECOND FROM TRUSTEE D. DAVIS.

THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN [LAUGHTER].

MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

MR. RAY WILL BE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS TYROSINE SYSTEM PURCHASE.

[LAUGHTER] SOMEONE TAKES THEM AND TELL HIM.

ALRIGHT, THIS MOVES US TO OUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS.

[10.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item (s)]

AGENDA ITEM 10.1, STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES REQUESTS FOR PROPOSALS.

DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, SEVERAL MEETINGS WE HAVE BEEN HAVING CONVERSATIONS AROUND THE STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, RFP.

WE HAVE TONIGHT, WE'RE HERE TO PRESENT TO YOU OUR FEEDBACK FROM YOUR REQUEST AND ALSO A RECOMMENDATION. MR. FISHER.

>> THANK YOU, SIR.

>> MR. FISHER, BEFORE YOU GET IN, ARE WE ALL NEEDED TO TAKE NOTES?

>> I ALWAYS RECOMMEND TAKING NOTES.

[LAUGHTER].

BUT I'LL BE BRIEF.

>> OKAY. WE'RE READY.

>> ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING AGAIN.

MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. MCFARLAND.

I'M EXCITED TO BRING TO YOU TONIGHT FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE APPROVAL, THE DISTRICT RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD DURHAM SCHOOL SERVICES AS THE VENDOR FOR THE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES RFP UTILIZING THE HYBRID MODEL.

MORE SPECIFICALLY OPTION TWO, WHICH IS GOING TO BE APPROXIMATELY $61.3 MILLION OVER THE FIVE-YEAR TERM.

WE BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION OVER THE ENSUING FIVE-YEAR TERM.

WE BELIEVE THAT IT PROVIDES THE MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY FOR OUR DISTRICT AND WILL AFFORD THE DISTRICT THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD ITS OWN BUS FLEET AT THE DISTRICT'S DISCRETION WHEN IT BECOMES ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE.

WE ARE CELEBRATING THE CONTRACTUAL CAPABILITY.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE HYBRID MODEL.

THE DISTRICT IS NOW ABLE TO BUILD ITS FLEET AND NEGOTIATE UPON BUILDING ITS FLEET ON AN ANNUAL BASIS WITH THE CONTRACTOR OVER THE FIVE-YEAR TERM.

WE HAVE MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES, MULTIPLE WAYS THAT WE CAN PURCHASE VEHICLES.

ONE IS THE LEASE PURCHASE, ONE IS A PURCHASE.

WE CAN STAGGER, WE CAN USE BOTH OF THOSE OPTIONS AT THE SAME TIME IN THE FUTURE.

THEN ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DO IS MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE BUS AVAILABILITY.

WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE SUPPLY CHAIN AND THE LIMITATIONS CURRENTLY THAT ARE FACING US.

THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE THINK THAT THE FIVE-YEAR TERM CONTRACT IS REALLY ONE OF THE MOST COST-EFFECTIVE METHODS FOR US.

NOW, WITH THAT FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT, WE ARE RESERVING THE RIGHT TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT AT THE END OF ANY FISCAL YEAR FOR CALLS AND/OR CONVENIENCE AND THAT IS WRITTEN INTO THE CONTRACT.

YES, DR. MCFARLAND,

[01:40:02]

WE WANTED TO RESPOND TO SEVERAL OF THE QUESTIONS ABOUT COST-SAVINGS, SPECIFICALLY WITH OTHER DISTRICTS IN OUR AREA, AND WE WEREN'T NECESSARILY ABLE TO FIND DATA THAT WOULD REPRESENT COST SAVINGS, BUT WE DID FIND SOME REALLY SIGNIFICANT DATA HERE WITH OUR TARRANT COUNTY PEER GROUP.

IF YOU'LL SEE THE YELLOW HIGHLIGHTS REPRESENT THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY OUTSOURCED.

EVERYBODY ELSE RUNS THEIR BUS FUNCTION, THEIR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES FUNCTION IN-HOUSE.

BUT WHAT YOU'LL SEE HERE IS WE'VE ATTEMPTED TO TAKE A LOOK AT DATA THAT WAS PRESENTED THROUGH THE PAINS SYSTEM.

WHAT YOU SEE IS THE TOTAL, WELL LET ME BACK UP.

WE'RE CAPTURING THIS INFORMATION BASED ON THE REGULAR ROUTES AND THE SPADE ROUTES.

IF YOU REMEMBER FROM YOUR PACKET, THOSE REGULAR ROUTES AND THOSE SPADE ROUTES ARE REALLY THE LION'S SHARE OF THE COST THAT THE DISTRICT IS GOING TO ENGAGE IN OR ENTERTAIN.

WE TOOK A LOOK AT THE REGULAR ROUTES.

THE SPED ROUTES, THE SPED ROUTES IS ON THE NEXT SLIDE, BUT STAY RIGHT HERE.

WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO IS JUST DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO CROWLEY ISD IN COMPARISON WITH GRAND PRAIRIE ISD.

MS. REASON AND I WERE TALKING EARLIER TODAY AND THERE'S SOME SIMILARITY THERE.

GRAND PRAIRIE ISD HAS MANY MORE SCHOOLS.

I THINK THEY'VE GOT ABOUT 43 SCHOOLS OR SO, BUT THEY ARE ALSO 58 SQUARE MILES AND I BELIEVE THE CROWLEY ISD IS APPROXIMATELY 58 SQUARE MILES.

BUT IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THE TOTAL REGULAR ROUTE TRANSPORTATION COST FOR CROWLEY ISD AND THAT WITH GRAND PRAIRIE ISD, WHO AGAIN MAINTAINS THEIR TRANSPORTATION FUNCTION IN-HOUSE, YOU'LL SEE SOME SIMILARITIES THERE IN COST.

YOU'LL ALSO SEE SOME SIMILARITIES IN THE TOTAL REGULAR MILEAGE.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT ANYTHING, IF YOU BACK OUT JUST A LITTLE BIT, YOU'LL SEE THAT CROWLEY ISD HAS A LOWER COST PER MILE THAN GRAND PRAIRIE ISD.

NOW, I'M NOT SAYING THAT THAT'S A DIRECT CORRELATION TO COST SAVINGS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

THERE ARE MANY VARIABLES THAT MAKE UP THOSE COSTS PER MILE.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT.

THANK YOU, SIR. IF YOU GO ON TO THE SPECIAL EDUCATION ROUTES, YOU'LL SEE AGAIN, THE TWO DISTRICTS THAT ARE OUTSOURCED IN COMPARISON TO ALL OF THE OTHER DISTRICTS.

AGAIN, GRAND PRAIRIE IS A GREAT COMPARATIVE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR US.

YOU'LL SEE AGAIN THERE THAT CROWLEY ISD ON THIS ONE WE'RE $6.84 PER MILE, WHILE GRAND PRAIRIE IS $8.41.

SO AGAIN, THIS ALLOWS US TO REALLY DIG DEEP INTO THE DATA THAT IS AVAILABLE AND REALLY DRAW SOME REAL CONCLUSIONS AND GUIDE US IN OUR DECISION-MAKING GOING FORWARD.

THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? TRUSTEE DI DAVIS.

>> THANK YOU. MY QUESTION IS, WHAT CREATES THE VARIANCE BETWEEN THE REGULAR RATES AND THE SPED RATES? IS THAT ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL THAT'S REQUIRED ON THE BUSES? WHAT CREATES THAT VARIANCE?

>> ABSOLUTELY. TRUSTEE DAVIS, THE SPED ROUTES, WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 53 BUS MONITORS FOR SPED ROUTES, AND THERE'S AT LEAST ONE BUS MONITOR ON EVERY SPED ROUTE.

ABSOLUTELY GREAT QUESTION.

>> ALSO, JUST AS MS. MATISSE, ONCE YOU SPEAK A LITTLE BIT MORE, BETSY'S TO WHAT ARE DIFFERENT SPED ROUTES, HOW THEY'RE COMPOSED.

>> GOOD EVENING BOARD PRESIDENT HALL, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AND DR. MCFARLAND.

OUR SPED ROUTES ARE DRIVEN BY WHAT'S CALLED AN INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN OR A COMMITTEE OF PROFESSIONALS, AS WELL AS THE PARENTS COME TOGETHER AND DETERMINE THE TYPE OF NEEDS THAT THE CHILD MAY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE REGULAR EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT OR THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.

ONCE TRANSPORTATION HAS BEEN DETERMINED, WE ASK, WHY? DOES THE CHILD NEED A WHEELCHAIR? DO THEY NEED TO BE CLOSELY MONITORED? DO THEY HAVE HEALTH REASONS? DO THEY HAVE ANXIETY? IF THOSE THINGS ARE DETERMINED, THEN THE CHILD IS ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION TRANSPORTATION.

THEN LIKE MR. FISHER SAID, IT DRIVES HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO BE ON THEIR BUS.

UNDER SPECIAL EDUCATION BUS, YOU MAY SEE AS MANY AS FOUR OR FIVE ADULTS ON THAT BUS.

[01:45:10]

>> I HAVE A QUESTION.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THESE COSTS AND I'M ON SLIDE FIVE NOW, LET ME GET ROUND.

WHEN WE LOOK AT CROWLEY PAYING $4.56 A MILE AND GRAND PRAIRIE, I THINK THAT'S THE EXAMPLE YOU USE PAYING 5.24 A MILE.

DOES THAT INCLUDE PERSONNEL TOO?

>> IT INCLUDES PERSONNEL TOO TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> IS THE COST PER MILE NEGOTIATED IN THE CONTRACT? IS IT TO SAY THAT WE NEGOTIATED A BETTER CONTRACT OR A BETTER RATE IN OUR CONTRACT SAY THEN, WELL, GRAND PRAIRIE, THEY DON'T OUTSOURCE, THEY RUN THEIR OWN, BUT ARE $4.56.

THAT IS A CONTRACTED NEGOTIATED RATE?

>> IT IS NOT TRUSTEE DAVIS, AS YOU RECALL, MAYBE ON THE SPREADSHEETS, THE ROUTE RATE IS ACTUALLY THE NEGOTIATED RATE.

IT RESULTS IN, IT CULMINATES IN THIS COST PER MILE.

>> ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MR. FISHER? ALL RIGHT.

>> DR. KHALID, I DO. MR. FISHER, WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE? I'M SORRY.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPTION 2 AND OPTION 3, WHICH WAS ONLY A COUPLE OF $100, I BELIEVE.

YEAH, A COUPLE OF $100. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

>> OPTION 3 ACTUALLY HAD A FIRST-YEAR INCREASE OF 16.5 PERCENT, I BELIEVE, AND THEN I THINK IT WAS 4.5 PER CENT IN THE ENSUING YEARS, YEARS 2,3,4,5.

>> OKAY.

>> YES, SIR.

>> ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

>> SORRY. AFTER WE GET OUR BUSES, HYPOTHETICALLY WILL SAY YEAR 2.

IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER WHAT YEAR.

WE WILL START IMPLEMENTING OUR BUSES THAT WE GET, THEY'RE NOT JUST GOING TO SIT ON A LOT UNTIL WE WOULD THEN IMPLEMENT THOSE BUSES INTO THE ROUTES, CORRECT?

>> YES, SIR. ANY EVENT THAT WE BEGIN TO PURCHASE BUSES, WE WILL NEGOTIATE THE ROUTE RATES AND WE WOULD IMPLEMENT AND INSTITUTE THOSE BUSES INTO OUR NATURAL FLEET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

>> THANK YOU. OKAY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? ALL RIGHT.

THIS IS A CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.

IS THERE A MOTION?

>> I WOULD A MOVE THAT WE AWARD THE STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, RFP TO DURHAM SCHOOL SERVICES LP, USING THE HYBRID MODEL OPTION TWO AS ESTABLISHED IN THE RFP AS PRESENTED TONIGHT.

>> THANK YOU FOR YOUR MOTION.

TRUSTEE MAYFIELD, IS THERE A SECOND?

>> I SECOND.

>> WE HAVE A SECOND BY TRUSTEE LINES.

MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

THANK YOU MR. FISHER. TRESSIE BOSTON.

>> I JUST WANTED MR. FISHER, I KNOW THAT THIS PROCESS, ALONG WITH MYSELF AND MR. RAY, DR. MCFARLAND, EVERYONE WHO IS ON THIS AND I THINK YOU'VE DONE A GREAT JOB.

EVEN THOUGH WE ASK SOMETIMES THE SAME QUESTION TWO OR THREE TIMES IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

THIS $61 BILLION, I MEAN, IT'S A HUGE CONTRACT, SO GREAT JOB.

>> THANK YOU SIR.

>> I ECHO THE SENTIMENTS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND FOR TEACHING US LIKE WE'RE THIRD GRADERS [LAUGHTER] WHEN IT COMES TO THE MATTERS.

I DO FEEL I HAVE A MUCH BETTER UNDERSTANDING, SO MUCH SO THAT I FELT VERY COMFORTABLE VOTING TONIGHT.

I LOOK FORWARD TO INVESTIGATING, MOVING BACK INTO OPERATING OUR OWN TRANSPORTATION.

SO THAT'S COOL. THANK YOU.

THIS MOVES US TO OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEMS.

[11.0 Future Action Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 11.1, RENEWAL OF CONTINGENT FEE CONTRACT WITH PERDUE BRANDON FIELDER COLLINS AND MOTT, LLP, PURSUANT TO SECTION 6.30 OF THE TAX CODE FOR SERVICES RELATED TO DELINQUENT TAX COLLECTIONS. DR. MCFARLAND.

[01:50:04]

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

MR. FISHER WILL ALSO BE PRESENTING THIS ITEM.

>> THANK YOU SIR. GOOD EVENING AGAIN, MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. MCFARLAND.

I AM EXCITED TONIGHT TO BRING TO YOU A FUTURE ACTION ITEM, AND THIS PERTAINS TO THE RENEWAL AND LANGUAGE MODIFICATION TO OUR CONTRACT WITHOUT DELINQUENT TAX ATTORNEY.

PERDUE BRANDON, FIELDER, COLLINS, AND MOTT.

[LAUGHTER] I WANTED TO JUST INTRODUCE MY FRIENDS HERE FROM PURDUE.

I HAVE WITH ME TONIGHT, MR. BEN PARSONS AND MS. EBONY MCCAIN.

MR. PARSONS IS A PARTNER AT PERDUE BRANDON.

MS. EBONY MCCAIN IS AN ATTORNEY AT PERDUE BRANDON. THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING.

THIS LANGUAGE MODIFICATION HAS BEEN REQUIRED BY THE STATE STATUTE AND THE STATE STATUTE SAYS THAT PURSUANT TO CHAPTERS 2252, 2271, AND 2274 OF THE TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE, THE FIRM VERIFIES THAT IT DOES NOT AND WILL NOT FOR THE TERM OF THIS CONTRACT, BOYCOTT ISRAEL OR ENERGY COMPANIES, THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE A POLICY WHICH DISCRIMINATES AGAINST A FIREARM ENTITY OR FIREARM TRADE ASSOCIATION NOR WILL IT CREATES SUCH A POLICY FOR THE TERM OF THIS CONTRACT AND THAT IT IS NOT ENGAGED IN BUSINESS WITH IRAN, SUDAN, OR A FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.

THE STATE BAR OF TEXAS INVESTIGATES AND PROSECUTES PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT COMMITTED BY TEXAS ATTORNEYS.

IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT AGAINST OR DISPUTE WITH THIS FIRM INVOLVING PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT, THE STATE BAR'S OFFICE OF CHIEF DISCIPLINARY COUNCIL WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT.

THAT IS THE LANGUAGE THAT IS BEING MODIFIED.

IT WILL BE SECTION 10 AND THE NEW PROPOSED CONTRACT.

IF YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR PREVIOUS YEAR CONTRACT, IT ENDED WITH SECTION 9.

THIS IS A NEW SECTION THAT IS BEING ADDED BY TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE GOVERNMENT CODE.

THAT IS THE REASON FOR OUR MODIFICATION.

WE'RE ALSO ALIGNING THIS WITH THE FISCAL YEAR JULY 1 THROUGH JUNE 30TH.

>> THANK YOU MR. FISHER. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? THERE'S NO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.

THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM AND SO WE WILL SEE YOU BACK NEXT MONTH.
