JOHN MICHELLE BESKYAT.

HE WAS FAMOUS FOR HIS CHILD-LIKE ABSTRACT GRAFFITI STYLE ART.

HE'S OUR OTHER JUNIOR BOARD MEMBER SO LET'S APPLAUSE HIM.

[APPLAUSE].

WE'RE AT AGENDA ITEM 4.2, THE HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, MR. CARSON WILL BE PRESENTING THIS ITEM.

[00:20:02]

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR. MCFARLAND, EACH AND EVERY MONTH IN CROWLEY ISD, WE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO AWARD THE HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD TO EMPLOYEES WHO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF SERVICE AND THIS MONTH'S WINNERS IS A VERY SPECIAL PRESENTATION.

IT'S NOT ONE, IT'S NOT TWO, IT'S THREE WINNERS AND WHEN YOU WATCH THIS VIDEO, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHY.

CHECK THIS OUT. [MUSIC]

>> THEY LEARNED ABOUT HONOR AND LEARNED ABOUT PRIDE IN THEIR COUNTRY.

THEY LEARNED ABOUT PRIDE IN THEIR COMMUNITY.

THEY LEARNED ABOUT TAKING CARE OF OTHERS WHEN OTHERS CAN'T TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES.

>> IT'S FAMILY IT'S LOVE AND THESE INSTRUCTORS, THEY LOVE YOU AND THEY SEE YOU AS THEIR OWN CHILD AND THEY WANT YOU TO BE A BETTER PERSON THAN YOU SEE YOURSELF AS, THEY WANT YOU TO TOUCH THE SKY, THEY WANT YOU TO BE EVERYTHING THAT YOU WANT TO BE.

>> I DON'T THINK THAT THOSE THREE MEN TRULY REALIZE THE IMPACT.

>> LIEUTENANT COLONEL SAWYER, MASTER SERGEANT BASS, AND SERGEANT FIRST-CLASS PD, WHO ARE ALL OUR CROWLEY ISD HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD WINNERS FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH, LET'S HEAR FROM THEM [APPLAUSE].

>> WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THEY WERE IN A HEARTBEAT WINNERS, IT JUST MELTED MY HEART, IS THE UNSUNG HERO THAT PEOPLE DON'T NECESSARILY THINK ABOUT.

THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE BACKGROUND, THAT JUST DO THE WORK, STAY STEADY IN THEIR CORES AND DON'T GIVE ANY ISSUE OR COMPLAINT WITH ANYTHING.

THEY DO SO MUCH FOR OUR DISTRICT AND A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT THEY PUT IN.

THEY ARE LITERALLY AT EVERYTHING.

THEY'RE AT EVERY CROWLEY GAME, PARTICIPATING AND THEY DON'T ASK FOR ANYTHING.

IN ADDITION TO THAT, THEY'RE VERY HUMBLE, THEY'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE JOB THAT THEY DO AND THEY GET THE KIDS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE JOB THAT THEY DO BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEY'RE SERVING IN A CAPACITY FOR THEIR COMMUNITY.

THEY REALLY HAVE NOW SERVED IN TWO CAPACITIES, THEY SERVED THEIR MILITARY OBLIGATION TO THE COUNTRY, AND THEN NOW THEY'RE CURRENTLY SERVING THEIR COMMUNITY.

WHAT BETTER WAY TO HAVE IMPACT NOT ONLY ON YOUR COUNTRY BUT YOUR COMMUNITY, THAN TO BE A PART OF THE ROTC PROGRAM HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

>> I REALLY ENJOYED TO SEE [INAUDIBLE] FOR YEARS, AND I LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT THEY SAY, I LOVE HOW CLOSE YOU GET WITH PEOPLE AND HOW IT FEELS JUST LIKE A CLOSE FAMILY.

BECAUSE ME, I HAVE A VERY SMALL FAMILY AND I WILL COME HERE AND IT'S LIKE THIS BIG, LOVING FAMILY WITH EVERYBODY AND YOU GROW CLOSE CONNECTIONS WITH EVERYBODY.

>> THEY'RE MORE THAN TEACHERS OR LIKE PARENTS.

THEY ALWAYS GET ON YOU WHEN YOU DO WRONG.

THEY ALWAYS TELL YOU TO DO SOMETHING AND THEY EXPECT LIKE 100% OUT OF YOU IN EVERY 90 BECAUSE IF YOU GIVE 90 IS A PROBLEM AND ALWAYS LIKED THAT ABOUT THEM, BECAUSE THEY SEE YOUR POTENTIAL WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN SEE YOUR POTENTIAL.

>> GOING INTO GRTC, I WAS THIS SUPER SHY PERSON, SUPER QUIET, DIDN'T REALLY WANT TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE GRTC, I JUST WANTED TO SAY IN THE CLASSROOM LIKE A NORMAL KID BUT BEING HERE, PROGRESSING ON NOT EVEN LIKE A FEW MONTHS LATER, I STARTED TO FIND MY VOICE, I STARTED TO FIND OUT WHO I WAS, I WANTED TO WORK FOR SOMETHING, WANTED TO SIT THERE AND DO NOTHING.

I WANT TO WORK WITH SOMETHING.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THEM FOR HELPING ME FIND THE PERSON WHO I AM BECAUSE NOW I HAVE SUCH BIG GOALS FOR MYSELF AND I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE HAD THAT YEARS AGO.

>> I THINK WHAT REALLY HELPS THE KIDS TO OBTAIN THAT COMPETENCIES WHEN THEY COME IN AND THEY FEEL A SENSE OF WORTH, BEING A LEADER CREATES A SENSE OF WORK.

YOU ARE COORDINATING YOUR PLANNING.

YOU'RE IN CHARGE OF THE EVERYDAY OPERATION OF YOUR CLASSROOM AND I THINK THAT THAT MOTIVATES THE STUDENT AND CREATES SOME SENSE WORK.

>> A LOT OF TIME, THEY COME INTO THE PROGRAM, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.

WE'RE TRYING TO HELP THEM FOCUS ON AND THEN TRY TO MAKE SURE THAT WHATEVER THEY WANT TO FOCUS ON, WE GUIDE THEM IN THE DIRECTION AND MAKE THEM A BETTER PERSON.

THAT'S WHAT OUR GOALS ARE IN GRTC.

JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WANT TO DO, WE'RE HERE TO HELP THEM TO GET THERE SO THEY CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE.

>> EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE GREAT.

IT'S JUST YOU GOT TO LIGHT THAT FIRE UNDERNEATH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS THAT THEY CAN DO THE BEST.

IT'S JUST AN AMAZING FEELING TO BE ABLE TO SEE A CADET STUDENT COME INTO THE ROOM NOT KNOWING WHAT THEY WANT TO DO AND THEN BY THE END OF THEIR SENIOR YEAR,

[00:25:06]

THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO, HOW TO GET THERE, AND HOW TO GET IT DONE.

THAT'S A GREAT FEELING TO SEE THAT.

>> IT'S NOT THE ONLY OPTION, BUT THE ARMY IS MY BEST OPTION BECAUSE I AM BUILT FOR THE ARMY BECAUSE I LOVE THE GRTC SO MUCH AND I'M DOING GOOD HERE AND THEY KNOW THAT I WOULD DO GET AN ARMY AND DO GREAT THINGS IN ARMY.

>> IT'S NOT JUST GEARED JUST FOR THE MILITARY STUDENTS.

THIS PROGRAM HELPS WITH PREPARES THEM FOR COLLEGE, IT JUST PREPARES THEM FOR EVERYDAY LIFE TO JUST BEING A PRODUCTIVE MEMBER OF SOCIETY.

>> I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE READY IF THE PREPARED. THAT'S MY WISH.

THAT THE KIDS WHEN THEY GET OUT THERE, THEY ARE READY.

THERE WAS NO DOUBT THAT THEY WON'T BE READY WHEN THEY LEAVE HERE. THAT'S MY ONE.

>> THEIR IMPACT HAS REACHED ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

THEY JUST CONTINUE TO BLESS OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY WITH THEIR STEADFAST WANT FOR SUCCESS FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF.

>> BEING IN THIS PROGRAM FOR 19 YEARS AND TO BE SELECTED AS ONE OF THE HEARTBEAT RUNNERS WHEN IT'S A VERY IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENT.

>> I WAS VERY MUCH A STATIC AND SURPRISED VERY MUCH AND WAS HAPPY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO ACHIEVE THAT GOAL.

>> IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME BECAUSE IT IS SHOWING GRTC RECOGNITION FOR ALL THAT WE DO FOR THE COMMUNITY, FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND FOR THE SCHOOL.

IT REALLY MEANT A LOT TO ME, AND FOR THE STUDENTS, THE STUDENTS WERE SO PROUD OF US.

>> IT'S VERY MUCH WELL-DESERVED FOR THEM TO EARN THE SUPPORT.

>> IF THEY TASTE MY LIFE, I HAVE A PLAN NOW.

I'M 17 YEARS OLD, ALREADY SWORE IN.

I'M LEAVING IN JUNE AND I'M HAVING THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE WHEN I LEAVE. THAT'S THE IMPACT THAT HAD ON ME.

I'M REALLY HEAVILY LENIENT ON RETIRING AFTER 20 YEARS, I'M COMING TO NORTH CROWLEY TO BE A GRTC INSTRUCTOR BECAUSE I WANT TO CHANGE OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES AND HOW THEY CHANGED MY MINE.

>> HONESTLY, IF I GO BACK IN TIME AND SEE MYSELF NOW, I'LL BE VERY PROUD OF MYSELF.

TRY NOT TO CRY. I AM A PERSON WHO IS GENERALLY PRETTY HARD ON MYSELF AND I THINK I CAN'T DO ANYTHING OR I WON'T BECOME ANYTHING AND SO TO SEE MYSELF IN THIS POSITION, IS SUCH A BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ME BECAUSE IT'S LIKE I CAN'T DO SOMETHING.

I WORKED FOR IT. AT TIMES.

IT MAY BE HARD DAY.

I EARNED IT FOR A REASON.

IT'S NOT JUST BECAUSE I WAS HANDED TO ME.

I WORKED HARD, I WORKED HARD FOR THREE TO FOUR YEARS AND IT ALL PAID OFF.

IT GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE OF, I CAN DO SOMETHING I CAN DO SOMETHING WITH MY LIFE.

>> [APPLAUSE] INTERESTING. I'D LIKE TO INVITE OUR CADET SUB ALSO TO THE FRONT, HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE US CADET, COULD YOU PLEASE COME UP AS WELL.

LET'S TAKE HANDS WITH OUR TRUSTEES.

[APPLAUSE] MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND, WE HAVE MANY POINTS OF PRIDE HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

THESE ARE TWO OF THEM.

UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO BE HERE THIS EVENING IS LIEUTENANT COLONEL SAWYER.

YOU KNOW HIM VERY WELL AND HE HAS A GOOD EXCUSE.

HE IS AT THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JRTC BALL IN SOUTH CAROLINA TONIGHT, REPRESENTING CROWLEY ISD, BUT WE DO HAVE MASTER SERGEANT BASS, HE'S SERGEANT FIRST-CLASS PV AND THEY HAVE RIGHT AT 180 STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN JRTC, AND THOSE ARE STUDENTS FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

LIKE YOU HEARD IN THE VIDEO, THEY ARE AT EVERY EVENT SERVING WITH LEADERSHIP AND CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFY. THEY'RE THE FACE OF IT.

AGAIN, WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE THEM AND THANK THEM FOR ALL THAT THEY DO FOR CROWLEY ISD.

THANK YOU-ALL.

[APPLAUSE]

[00:30:13]

[LAUGHTER]

>> THANK YOU AGAIN. THANK YOU FOR PRESENTING THAT, MR. KIRCHNER, AND CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, WELL DESERVED.

AS THEY EXIT, LET'S GIVE A ONE MORE ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

[APPLAUSE] WHEN I WAS SEEING THE VIDEO, I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THE VIDEO FROM THE PARADE, THEY WERE SHOWING OUT AT THE PARADE.

THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

AT THIS TIME, WE ARE AT AGENDA ITEM 5.1,

[5.0 Campus / Program Highlights]

JUNE W. DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

THIS IS UNDER THE CAMPUS PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS, DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, BUT WE WANT TO REALLY HIGHLIGHT OUR SCHOOLS THAT HAVE ACHIEVED AN AID ALREADY.

TODAY WE DO HAVE A VIDEO THAT'S BEEN PREPARED BY COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT.

MR. KIRCHNER WILL PRESENT THIS ITEM.

>> THANK YOU. DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, YOU KNOW WE'VE BEEN CELEBRATING ALL OF OUR A-RATED CAMPUSES, ALL FIVE OF THEM AND TONIGHT WE'RE EXCITED TO WRAP IT UP WITH JUNE W. DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

LOOK BACK THERE AT OUR OLD CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION BUILDING BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WHEN WE WERE PRESENTING THEM WITH THEIR BANNER, THIS NOW DISPLAYED PROUDLY IN THE SCHOOL.

THEY ARE AN A-RATED CAMPUS WITH TWO DISTINCTIONS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE, ARTS AND READING AND COMPARATIVE ACADEMIC GROWTH.

WE HAVE A VIDEO TO SHOW YOU HOW THEY ACT LIKE A FAMILY AND WORK LIKE A TEAM TO GET THE JOB DONE THERE AT DAVIS ELEMENTARY.

WATCH THIS. [NOISE]

>> WHEN YOU WALK INTO JUNE DAVIS, THERE'S JUST SOMETHING YOU FEEL, AND THAT'S DUE LARGELY IN PART TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ESTABLISHED THIS CULTURE AND WHO ARE HERE DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT DAVIS THOUGH THAT ALLOWS US TO FUNCTION AS A TEAM AND A FAMILY IS THE EXTRA STEP IS THE EXPECTATION.

YOU'RE HARD-PRESSED TO FIND SOMEBODY WHO'S ACCEPTING THE BARE MINIMUM AND THE LEVEL OF DETAIL THAT OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF GO TO.

THEY KNOW WHO'S A CAR RIDER, WHO'S A PARENT WALK UP, THEY KNOW WHO LIKES MATH MORE THAN READING, THEY KNOW WHO PLAYS HOCKEY AND WHO PLAYS SOCCER, THAT JUST ENABLES THEM TO CARE ABOUT THE WHOLE CAMP.

>> GLAD YOU'RE HERE.

>> WHEN YOU ENTER THE DOORS OF JUNE DAVIS ELEMENTARY, YOU GET A SENSE OF BELONGING, A SENSE OF TOGETHERNESS, A SENSE OF FAMILY.

I JUST LOVED PULLING UP TO THIS CAMPUS EVERY MORNING, SEEING THE FATHERS GREETING OUR STUDENTS AND THE KIDS EXCITED TO RUN ACROSS THE CROSSWALK.

THEY'RE JUST AS EXCITED AS I AM TO PULL UP TO WORK.

IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE WORK BECAUSE I JUST ENJOY WHAT I DO.

>> BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE PLUS TEXT CLUES EQUALS OUR INFERENCE.

>> JUNE DAVIS ELEMENTARY IS SPECIAL FOR A LOT OF REASONS, BUT FIRST AND FOREMOST IS BECAUSE WE'RE NAMED AFTER A LIVING LEGACY AND THE STUDENTS AT OUR SCHOOL KNOW HER.

>> I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S NORMAL, BUT I KNOW THE SCHOOLS THAT I WENT TO IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH, THE PERSON THE SCHOOL WAS NAMED AFTER WASN'T HERE AND PRESENT.

SHE'S PRESENT. I THINK THAT'S A REALLY COOL FEATURE.

MY KIDS KNOW HER, THEY SEE HER, THEY SEE AT WALMART OR THEY SEE HER OUT AND MAKE, HEY, MS. DAVIS, AND SO I THINK IT'S A REALLY COOL FEATURE.

>> I HAVE TWINS, BOY AND GIRL, ALAINE AND ELIZA.

THEY'VE BEEN GOING TO JUNE DAVIS SINCE THEIR KINDERGARTEN YEAR, SO I GUESS FOUR YEARS, THEY'RE IN THIRD GRADE NOW.

THE THING I REALLY LOVE ABOUT JUNE DAVIS, ONE, THE DIVERSITY.

A LOT OF CAMPUSES ARE SPLIT IN A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS, BUT MY KIDS GET TO COME TO SCHOOL IN DIVERSE ENVIRONMENT, WHICH IS IMPORTANT TO ME AND MY WIFE.

THEN THE SECOND THING IS THE TEACHERS.

MY KIDS TALK ALL THE TIME ABOUT HOW THEY LOVE THEIR TEACHERS AND INTERACTIONS, SO I THINK THAT'S THE SECOND THING THAT I LOVE ABOUT JIM DAVIS.

LASTLY, IT'S REALLY JUST THE SETUP AND HOW THE BUILDING LOOKS MAGNIFICENTLY GOOD.

>> WE HAVE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLE ART PROGRAM AND OUR TEACHER, MS. PRUE, TIES IN THEIR TEAKS, TEACHES ABOUT HISTORY, AND OUR MUSIC PROGRAM IS VERY ACTIVE, WE HAVE A PIANO LAB, OUR PE PROGRAM IS INCREDIBLE, AND THEY DON'T JUST DO PE, THEY SEEK OUT OUR INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS TO FIND OUT HOW CAN WE TIE IN PE TO WHAT'S GOING ON IN THEIR REAL-WORLD, IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

I GET TO DO STEM, AND I'M BLESSED TO DO THAT.

EVERY TIME I SEE STUDENTS, THEY'RE LIKE, WHEN ARE WE DOING ANOTHER ACTIVITY, SO IT'S THE HANDS-ON,

[00:35:01]

CREATIVE THINKING, REAL-WORLD PROBLEM-SOLVING.

THOSE ARE THINGS THAT WE HAVE HERE ON THIS CAMPUS THAT MAKE US A REALLY SPECIAL CAMPUS AND I JUST LOVE IT.

>> JUNE DAVIS OPENED IN THE 2019/20 SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH WAS THE YEAR, OF COURSE, WE ALL WERE IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BUT DESPITE THE CHALLENGES THAT WE WERE ALL FACED WITH, IT DID NOT DETER THE CAMPUS'S ROADMAP TO SUCCESS.

I WAS NOT SURPRISED AT ALL THAT THEY RECEIVED AN A RATING AS THEIR OFFICIAL SCHOOL RATING FOR THEIR FIRST YEAR.

TO RECEIVE ONE, NOT ONLY DID THEY RECEIVE AN A, THEY RECEIVED TWO DISTINCTIONS, ONE IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE, ARTS AND READING, AND ANOTHER ONE IN THE TOP 25% OF COMPARATIVE ACADEMIC GROWTH.

>> WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS THAT OUR GRADE WAS AN A, I WAS ECSTATIC.

I DID HAVE A COUPLE OF STUDENTS WHO INQUIRED, MS. CARTWRIGHT, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? AFTER THE CONVERSATION AND THE EXPLANATION, I SAW THAT THEIR POSTURE LIFTED AND THEY WERE PROUD BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEIR HARD WORK HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT GRADE.

>> BEING A NEW PRINCIPAL AT AN A CAMPUS IS MULTIFACETED.

THERE'S OF COURSE THE JOY AND THE PRIDE OF THE WORK THAT HAS COME IN BEFORE ME AND YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO VALUE THAT AND LEARN WHAT YOU CAN FROM WHAT HAS BEEN CLEARLY SUCCESSFUL.

YOU WANT TO ENSURE THAT THE SYSTEMS THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE THAT TRULY MOVED OUR STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF THE MATERIAL AND MADE THEM BETTER PEOPLE REMAINS.

BUT IT'S ALSO A GREAT OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT SOME THINGS ARE SURE SO WE'RE ABLE TO THINK MORE ABOUT, WE KNOW WE HAVE THIS AND THEN THE DATA SUPPORTS THAT WE HAVE THIS PART, SO WE GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO THE EXTRA STEP, WHERE THE EXTRA STEP IS THE EXPECTATION ANYWAY, OUR EXTRA STEP JUST GETS TO GO ONE STEP FURTHER, AND THAT'S SO FUN, SO REWARDING.

>> YOU WALK IN CLASSROOMS AND YOU SEE HANDS-ON LEARNING, NOT JUST WORKSHEETS.

TEACHERS ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED WITH STUDENTS AND STUDENTS ARE TAKING OWNERSHIP IN THEIR LEARNING.

>> THE FOCUS IS ALWAYS ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND TEACHER EFFECTIVENESS AT JUNE W. DAVIS ELEMENTARY.

>> WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT MAINTAINING AN A, YOU HAVE TO HAVE PRIDE IN WHAT WAS, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO REALIZE IT IS NOT A GIVEN.

THE SAME STUDENTS IN A DIFFERENT YEAR WITH NEW MATERIAL, NEW TEACHERS, NEW CIRCUMSTANCES IN THEIR LIVES, YOU HAVE TO RISE TO THAT CHALLENGE AND YOU HAVE TO RISE TO THAT CHALLENGE CONSISTENTLY EACH AND EVERY DAY.

>> THIS IS A CAMPUS THAT IS LASER-FOCUSED ON EACH INDIVIDUAL CHILD IN THEIR ACADEMIC GROWTH.

NOT ONLY DO TEACHERS KNOW WHERE STUDENTS ARE, THE STUDENTS KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE.

>>AT JUNE DAVIS, WE USE DATA IN A LITTLE BIT OF A DIFFERENT WAY.

USUALLY, IT'S PERCENTAGES AND WE KNOW WHERE WE ARE, BUT HERE WHAT WE'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT IS KNOWING THE DATA SO WELL THAT WE REMOVE ANY UNKNOWNS SO WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT EACH STUDENT NEEDS, WE CAN MAKE A PLAN OF ACTION THAT WE CAN THEN MONITOR TO GET ON THERE.

MY FAVORITE PART OF IT IS ONCE THAT IS ESTABLISHED, IT MAKES TIME FOR HUMANITY, IT MAKES TIME FOR OUR TEACHERS TO BE HUMAN WITH OUR KIDS AND YOU GET THAT CONNECTION.

THAT REALLY PAYS DIVIDENDS BECAUSE THEN THOSE STUDENTS HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU AND THEY WANT TO PERFORM FOR YOU, SO THEN MAINTAINING THAT A COMES NATURALLY BECAUSE WE'VE USED DATA AS A WAY TO INSERT MORE HUMANITY INTO OUR DAY.

>> WHAT I LOVE ABOUT DR. ANTHONY IS SHE'S A SERVANT LEADER.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ON AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAMPUS.

SHE'S VISIBLE AND SHE CARES ABOUT HER TEACHERS.

DR. ANTHONY SHOWED UP READY TO CONTINUE TO BUILD ON THE FOUNDATION THAT WAS ALREADY STARTED.

>> THERE ARE NO DAYS OFF.

THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO DAYS OFF, EVERY DAY IS IMPORTANT, EVERY INTERACTION YOU HAVE WITH A KID, THAT FIRST DAY OF PRE-K SETS THE TONE FOR EVERY FUTURE INTERACTION.

THAT FIRST MOMENT INTO THE CLASSROOM WHEN YOU'RE GREETED BY A TEACHER OR SOMEONE WAVES AT YOU IN THE MORNING, OR DAVIS DAD CLAP YOU IN, THAT'S THE WORK AND IT IS NEVER CEASING AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THAT WORK CANNOT BE VALUED HIGHLY ENOUGH.

>> WHEN YOU HAVE SUCCESS AND WHEN YOU HAVE SUCCESS EARLY, THE CHALLENGE IS REALLY TO MAINTAIN AND SUSTAIN ITS SUCCESS, SO WE BELIEVE THAT BASED ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RIGHT SYSTEM, THE RIGHT PROGRAMS, THE RIGHT PRACTICES, AND THE RIGHT PEOPLE THAT WE CAN DO THAT, BUT WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT THE SUCCESS IS NOT AN ACCIDENT.

THERE WAS A VERY SYSTEMIC PLAN THAT WAS PUT IN PLACE AND THE PLAN GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL.

IT'S ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT YOU HAVE TEACHERS ON THE CAMPUS THAT ARE COLLABORATIVE, MAKING DECISIONS COLLABORATIVELY, THEY'RE ABLE TO LEVERAGE THE TALENTS AND THE SKILLS THAT EACH ONE ON BRINGING TO THE TABLE AND REALLY BE ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BEST SOLUTIONS,

[00:40:01]

AND I THINK THAT ONCE WE REALIZE THAT, HEY, WE HAVE THE POWER TO CREATE WHATEVER REALITY WE WANT, THEN YOU WILL SEE THAT SUCCESS CONTINUES TO BE AND WE'LL SEE MORE A CAMPUSES IN OUR DISTRICT.

WE KNOW THAT, THERE'S ALWAYS A CHALLENGE TO GET THERE.

TEACHERS WORK REALLY HARD, WE'RE LOOKING AT CURRICULUM, WE'RE LOOKING AT HIRING, WE'RE LOOKING AT EVERYTHING THAT WE DO, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT KIDS CAN PERFORM AT HIGH LEVELS, THEN WE HAVE THE RIGHT SYSTEMS, THE RIGHT PROGRAMS, THE RIGHT PRACTICES, AND THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

AT JUNE DAVIS, WE HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE IN THE PAST, BUT EVEN MORE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THEY'LL DO IN THE FUTURE.

[APPLAUSE]

>> LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, DR. ANTHONY AND MEMBERS FROM JUNE W. DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, TRUSTEES, DR. MCFARLAND.

WHAT AN HONOR IT IS TO SPEAK TO YOU AFTER SUCH A VIDEO IS THAT THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD THIS CAMPUS FULL OF THE MOST AMAZING EDUCATORS THAT YOU COULD HAVE COMPILED TOGETHER, NAMED AFTER A LIVING LEGEND WHO IS TRULY A GIFT TO US AND IS SO ACTIVE WITH US.

WE LOVE HER FOR THAT.

I WANT TO JUST SAY THAT IT IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT AND WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT OUR STAFF, MANY OF WHOM WE HAVE NEW MOVIE STARS RIGHT HERE BEHIND ME, THEY ARE NOW FAMOUS, BUT OUR FAMILIES AND OUR STUDENTS ARE EQUALLY INTEGRAL TO THAT POINT OF BEING AN A AND MAINTAINING THAT A.

THANK YOU ALSO TO OUR FAMILIES WHO ARE LISTENING AND THANK YOU FOR SPENDING TIME HIGHLIGHTING US.

[APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND].

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> THANK YOU AGAIN.

WE'RE AT AGENDA ITEM 6.1.

[6.0 CISD Student School Board Trustee Program Pilot]

WE HAVE SOME FORMAL INTRODUCTIONS AND UPDATES FROM THE STUDENTS, SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES, AND WE HAVE AGAIN, MS. ROSE JONES AND MR. JASON SWAN, THEY WILL PRESENT THIS ITEM.

>> AGAIN, HI, I'M JASON SWAN, I'M A SENIOR AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

JUST SOME UPDATES ON MY CAMPUS.

WE'RE ACTUALLY PRETTY HAPPY.

THIS WEEK, ACTUALLY TODAY, THIS MORNING, OUR GIRLS ARE GOING TO AUSTIN TO RUN A TEXAS RELAYS.

THEY'RE GOING TO ROLL OUT THERE AND THEN THEY'RE GOING TO DO GREAT DATE [LAUGHTER] [APPLAUSE]

>> [APPLAUSE].

>> GO AHEAD, DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, I DO ALSO WANT TO CELEBRATE ACTUALLY BOTH OF THESE STUDENTS, BUT MR. SWAN I THINK HAS SOME NEW NEWS.

I'VE HEARD FROM HIS FATHER ABOUT SEVERAL ACCEPTANCE LETTER, SO TELL US ABOUT THE SCHOOLS YOU'VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO MR. SWAN?

>> I HAVEN'T LOOKED AT THE SCHOOLS THAT E-MAILED ME BACK TODAY BECAUSE I WILL BE GETTING SOME LATER TONIGHT, BUT AS OF TODAY, I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN, THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND RICE UNIVERSITY IN HOUSTON.

>> AWESOME [APPLAUSE].

[00:45:06]

WE ARE DEFINITELY PROUD OF MR. SWAN AS HE'S A SENIOR THIS YEAR AND SO WE'RE LOOKING FOR REALLY GREAT THINGS FROM YOU, BUT AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS.

DEFINITELY I APPRECIATE YOUR HARD WORK WHILE YOU'VE BEEN THERE FOR SURE.

THEN ALSO, MS. JONES, SHE DIDN'T SHARE THIS, BUT SHE GOT UP AT ABOUT 6:30 THIS MORNING AND I THINK SHE HAD TO BE UP ON THE BUS AND READY GOING INTO PLACE.

WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE TONIGHT AS WELL.

>> THANK YOU DR. MCFARLAND, THANK YOU, BOARD MEMBERS.

AT THIS TIME, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 7.1,

[7.0 Report Item(s)]

THE CISD NATATORIUM PARTNERSHIP WITH RYAN FAMILY YMCA. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. FISHER WILL BE ADDRESSING THIS ITEM. FISHER.

>> THANK YOU, SIR. GOOD EVENING, DR. MCFARLAND, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

TONIGHT WE WANT TO GIVE A BRIEF UPDATE ON THE PROGRESS OF OUR CONSTRUCTION AT THE NATATORIUM, THE NEW YMCA, CISD NATATORIUM.

AS WE WERE DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ABOUT THIS PROJECT, WHAT WE KNOW IS, AM I GETTING FEEDBACK, WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT THIS PROJECT IS GOING TO BENEFIT OUR STUDENTS, OUR SWIM TEAM, BUT WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW WAS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HOW IT CAN BENEFIT ALL OF US.

I WANTED TO START WITH KEY FACTS THAT I OBTAINED FROM THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION AND THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION.

I DID NOT KNOW THESE THINGS.

DROWNING IS THE THIRD LEADING CAUSE OF UNINTENTIONAL INJURY DEATH WORLDWIDE.

FROM THE REPORT FROM THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR HEALTH STATISTICS, DATA BRIEF NUMBER 413 OF JULY 2021, WHAT I FOUND WAS THAT DROWNING DEATHS WERE ACTUALLY THE SECOND LEADING CAUSE OF UNINTENTIONAL INJURY DEATH FOR CHILDREN AGED 0-17.

THAT WILL BE A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS, AND THE LEADING CAUSE OF THOSE AGE 1-4.

AND SO WHAT I DID WAS OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, MR. MICHAEL AND I WE TALKED ABOUT SOLUTIONS THAT OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS PROPOSING TO ADDRESS THIS SPECIAL ISSUE.

MR. MICHAEL, DO YOU WANT TO COME UP AND SHARE?

>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF BOARD.

AS MR. FISHER STATED, OUR KIDDOS ARE AT A VERY HIGH RISK OF FATALITIES CONNECTED TO DROWNING, THIS RELATED TO SWIMMING.

ONE OF THE THINGS HE ASKED ME IF IT IS DONE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF [INAUDIBLE] THROUGH A COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP, WE ARE PREPARING THE SCHEDULE TO OFFER SWIM SAFETY EDUCATION FOR OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES, ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD.

ALONG WITH THAT, WE WILL BE PROVIDING DRY LAND SWIM LESSONS AS WELL FOR OUR KIDDOS IN AN EFFORT TO REDUCE FATALITIES AND MAKE SURE OUR KIDDOS ARE SAFE WHEN IT COMES TO SWIM FATALITY AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS AND AS WELL INCREASE INTERESTS IN SWIMMING.

AS YOU KNOW, WITH THE NEW NATATORIUM WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE PROVIDING PLENTY MORE SPACE FOR KIDDOS.

WE USE A COMPANY TO BE A PART OF OUR SWIM PROGRAMS AND SO AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE INTERESTS FOR OUR KIDDOS WHEN IT COMES TO SWIM.

IDEALLY, WE'D LIKE TO AS WE WRAP UP ELEMENTARY, MOVING TO PROVIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL AS WELL WHEN IT COMES TO THE LESSONS.

WE'RE WORKING THROUGH PE CLASSES AT THIS TIME TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THAT EDUCATION AND LESSONS.

>> THIS PROJECT IS PART OF OUR 2002 [INAUDIBLE].

THIS IS DEFINITELY A TESTAMENT TO THE PERSEVERANCE OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IN CONTINUING TO KEEP THE WORD THAT WE GET INTO THE COMMUNITY.

I'LL JUST GO ON WITH THE PROJECT SCOPE.

AGAIN, WE'RE EXPANDING THE POOL.

IT'S REALLY A NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ESSENTIALLY, FROM FOUR LANES TO EIGHT SWIM LANES WITH ACTUAL STARTING BLOCKS.

IT'S GOING TO MEET ALL UIL COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS.

WE HAVE A NEW ROOFTOP UNIT FOR THE HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM, A DEHUMIDIFICATION SYSTEM, WE'RE ADDING BLEACHER SEATING.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT OUR PARENTS TOLD US AND OUR CULTURE TOLD US WAS THEY WANTED TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE EVENTS, THEY WANTED TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE SWIM MEETINGS AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE BLEACHER SEATING UP TO 150 SEATS.

THERE'S A LOCKER ROOM REMODELED, UPDATED PLUMBING FIXTURES AND LOCKERS, AND ALSO LANDSCAPE.

[00:50:05]

HERE YOU SEE VISUALS OF WHAT THE FACILITY LOOKED LIKE BEFORE, YOU SEE IT UNDER CONSTRUCTION, AND THIS IS A RENDERING OF WHAT THE FACILITY IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE NOW.

WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, THE EXTERIOR INSTALLATION IS BEING FINISHED AND INSTALLED OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, THE FIRE ALARM, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE GOING TO BE INSTALLED OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, CERAMIC TILE INSTALLATION AND LOCKER ROOMS TO BEGIN OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS WITH A SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION BY MEMORIAL DAY.

YOU'LL SEE OUR TIMELINE HERE, SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION BY MEMORIAL DAY AND I'M SO EXCITED, 2002 WAS WHEN THIS PROJECT WAS FIRST CONSIDERED.

THIS IS AWESOME. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND.

THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

>> THIS IS A PRESENTATION BOARD.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE OR COMMENTS? YES, MS. DAVIS.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION. YOU MENTIONED STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE LESSONS.

>> TAKE SWIMMING LESSON.

>> THIS IS DURING THE DAY AND HOW THEY'RE GETTING THERE.

ARE THEY GOING TO BE BUSED, OR IS THIS PART OF A CLASS PERIOD? I THINK I ASKED PROBABLY THREE QUESTIONS IN THAT.

>> IT'S OKAY.

>> WHAT WE'LL BE OFFERING IS TO THE PE CLASSES FOR OUR CLASSES, THOSE CLASSES FOR [INAUDIBLE].

>> THEY WILL BE BUSSED TO THE LOCATION.

>> THE DRAMA INVESTMENTS, THAT'S WHAT WAS CALLED AT FIRST.

THE DRAMA INVESTMENT DON'T TAKE MUCH BETTER IN WITHIN PED CLASSES.

>> DOCTOR MCFARLAND, I HAVE MY GUEST HERE, ON THE RYAN YMCA, MECHANIC.

HE HAS A SHORT PRESENTATION JUST ON THE STATUS FROM THE RYAN YMCA PERSPECTIVE. THAT'S OKAY.

>> GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME THIS EVENING.

I'M EXCITED TO STAND HERE.

MR. FISHER GAVE A WONDERFUL UPDATE ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT.

WANTED TO SHARE JUST A FEW THINGS ABOUT WHAT THIS MEANS IS THE WHY AND THE COMMUNITIES SURROUNDING THE RYAN FAMILY YMCA.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE, I'M GOING TO ACTUALLY START BACKWARDS BECAUSE WITHOUT THIS PARTNERSHIP, WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BE HERE AND BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THESE OPPORTUNITIES TO THE STUDENTS AND THE FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY.

THE PARTNERSHIP WITH CROWLEY ISD AS MR. FISHER ALLUDED TO, WE'RE EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO ATTACK THE ISSUE THAT HAS PEDIATRIC DROWNING IN OUR COMMUNITIES.

ONE OF THE SETS THAT IS NOT UP THERE AND WAVES A LITTLE BIT UP AND DOWN EVERY YEAR, BUT IT'S NOT A GREAT SET.

TEXAS AND TARRANT COUNTY SPECIFICALLY ARE ALWAYS ONE OF THE TOP 3 HIGHEST RATES OF PEDIATRIC DROWNING IN OUR COUNTRY AND IN OUR STATE.

HOW CAN WE SOLVE THAT? EXACTLY WHAT THEY LIVED TO DRY LAND EDUCATION WHERE THE WHY CAN COME INTO THE SCHOOLS, CAN WORK WITH THE SCHOOLS AND GIVE THE KIDS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN WHAT TO DO IN A SITUATION SUCH AS PEDIATRIC DROWNING.

THE THING IS WE HAVE WE HAVE TALKED AND WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN SO THAT EVERY STUDENT CAN GO THROUGH AND THE CROWLEY ISD AND EDITORIAL MATH RYAN FAMILY YMCA AND PRACTICE THOSE SKILLS AND LEARN THOSE SKILLS AND REMOVE THAT BARRIER AND THAT FEAR OF WATER THAT SO MANY SEE.

WE WANT TO REMOVE THAT STIGMA AND BE ABLE TO GIVE THESE KIDS AND FAMILIES THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE PEACE AND COMFORT TO BE ABLE TO KNOW THAT THEIR CHILD HAS THE ABILITY TO NOT ONLY SWIM AND SAVE THEIR OWN LIFE, BUT HELP OTHERS OUT IN TIMES OF NEED.

THE OTHER THING I WANTED TO TOUCH ON BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A BIG THING WITHIN THE YMCA IS TEEN EMPLOYMENT.

A LOT OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE CURRENT SWIMMERS ON BOTH HIGH SCHOOL SWIM TEAM ALSO WORK AT THE RYAN YMCA AND OUR ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS.

WITH THE EXPANSION, THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE HAVE NOT ONLY WILL BE ABLE TO EMPLOY MORE TEENS, BUT GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO TAKE ON AS THEY GO THROUGH THEIR OWN CAREER.

WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS THAT WE ARE GETTING READY TO LAUNCH AND HAVE SOME SPECIAL INVITATION VIP HARD HAT TOURS.

AS YOU SAW AT THE TIMELINE, THINGS ARE GETTING PRETTY CLOSE TO DONE.

AS WE GET A LITTLE BIT CLOSER AND IT'S A LITTLE BIT SAFE TO WALK IN.

WE WILL SEND OUT INVITATIONS PERSONALLY TO INVITE EVERYONE TO COME OUT AND SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN ACTION INTO CONSTRUCTION RIGHT BEFORE IT'S DONE, SO KEEP AN EYE FOR THAT AS WE GO UP.

WE WILL BE ALSO OFFERING THE GRAND SPLASH FRIDAY, JUNE 2.

YOU'LL SEE THAT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

YOU GUYS RECEIVE INVITATIONS WHERE WE'LL CUT THE RIBBON, WE'LL LET YOU GUYS KNOW SOMEBODY YOU JUMP IN AND TAKE THE FIRST LAB IF YOU'D LIKE AS WELL.

BUT REALLY JUST SHOWCASE THE PARTNERSHIP AND INVITE EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY TO SEE THIS OPPORTUNITY.

SEE THIS BEAUTIFUL AUDITORIUM IN ACTION, AND GET READY TO SHOWCASE THE STUDENT ATHLETES AND THE COMMUNITY AS WE GO THROUGH.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THAT CONCLUDES UP EVERYTHING.

[00:55:02]

>> TRUSTEE DAVIS HAD A QUESTION EARLIER, AND IT'S REALLY A FOLLOW UP, ALONG WITH WHAT MS. STEVENSON SAID.

I THINK I'M GOING TO BE A SPECTATOR AT THAT [LAUGHTER] [BACKGROUND].

SPECIALLY JUST TALKING TO THAT.

BUT WHAT THIS MIGHT BE FOR, MR. MOFFIT, WHAT AGE WILL WE START THIS? THE SWIM LESSONS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

>> IT WILL BE SECOND GRADE.

>> SECOND GRADE?

>> YES MA'AM. SECOND GRADE.

>> JUST CURIOUS. BUT I HAD SOME OF THE SAME QUESTION SHE DID ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE.

BUT YOU EXPLAINED THAT, SO THANK YOU.

>> CHRISTINE, MAYBE YOU HAVE A QUESTION.

>> NO, I JUST WANTED TO SAY KUDOS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR EMPHASIS ON WATER SAFETY.

I DIDN'T KNOW THOSE STATISTICS BECAUSE OF MY AFFILIATION WITH WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO PREVENTION DO THE DEARLY, AND I HAD NO IDEA.

IT'S STILL BAD EXPERIENCE THAT TEXAS IS TYPICALLY USUALLY THE HIGHEST INCIDENCE OF PEDIATRIC DEATH IN OUR COUNTRY IN TARRANT COUNTY.

LOTS OF THIS HARDENED LEADS IS NUMBER ONE.

IT DISPROPORTIONATELY HIGHER AMONGST STUDENTS OF COLOR OR CHILDREN OF COLOR.

IT'S A MUCH NEEDED AREA.

I'M SO GLAD THAT IN ADDITION TO THE UIL SCHOLASTIC PIECE THAT WE'LL HAVE WITH ATHLETICS THAT WILL ALSO HAVE THAT EXTRA RESOURCE ASSET FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

I DON'T KNOW IF I'M GOING TO JUMP IN THE WATER EITHER.

NO WONDER MY HAIR WET, BUT I WILL BE THERE TO CELEBRATE WITH YOU-ALL.

THANK YOU. GO AHEAD.

>> I HAD A COMMENT. ON A PERSONAL NOTE, I WOULD TAKE MY KIDS EVERY SINGLE SUMMER FOR SWIMMING LESSON AT THE RYAN YMCA.

I DIDN'T GROW UP SWIMMING, AND SO I ALSO LEARNED HOW TO SWIM AT THE RYAN YMCA [BACKGROUND] ANY ATTENDED [APPLAUSE] DROWNING PREVENTION PROGRAM THAT THE WIDTHS I WEDNESDAY.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

I KNOW THAT MCDONALD'S YMCA PARTNERS, WE'VE MENTIONED BOULEVARDS, I'M EXCITED, THIS FOR OUR COMMUNITY SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE OF COLOR CAN LEARN HOW TO SWIM.

AS READ 67, 70% DO NOT, AS AN ADULT.

>> I WASN'T GOING TO SAY ANYTHING BUT, I WANT TO ECHO EVERYTHING THAT EVERYONE SAID.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SWIM SAFETY AND JUST THE IMPORTANCE OF DROWNING IN WATER.

I ALWAYS GO TO THE GO TO GALVESTON EVERY YEAR, AND JUST TO HEAR THAT THESE TWO TWIN BOYS PASSED AWAY.

IF WE CAN SAVE ANYONE, THAT'S ONE MORE PERSON THAT WE CAN HELP.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOU-ALL GETTING THIS DONE, SO WE CAN SAVE ANOTHER LIFE.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEES.

THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION WE APPRECIATE IT..

AGENDA ITEM 7.2, THE HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT REPORT. DOCTOR MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, EXCUSE ME.

DOCTOR BEAR WILL BE ADDRESSING THIS ITEM, DR. BEAR.

>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, ESTEEMED TRUSTEES AND DOCTOR MCFARLAND.

TONIGHT'S PRESENTATION ADDRESSES GOAL 3, EMPOWERED STAFF.

OUR INTENTION THIS EVENING IS JUST TO PROVIDE YOU WITH JUST A BRIEF UPDATE REGARDING CONVERSATIONS WE'VE BEEN HAVING ESPECIALLY WITH OUR FINANCE TEAM AS IT RELATES TO OUR CURRENT COMPENSATION PACKAGE, AND THEN TRYING TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE FURTHER DISCUSSIONS IN A POTENTIAL BOARD WORKSHOP.

BOARD, WE WOULD LIKE TO START THIS EVENING WITH JUST A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF OUR CURRENT COMPENSATION PACKAGE.

AS YOU MAY RECALL, LAST YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE DIFFERENTIATED SALARY RAISES AT ALL LEVELS OF THE COMPENSATION PLAN.

THESE RAISES RANGE FROM 3%-4% IN SOME AREAS OF THE SALARY SCALE.

OUR STARTING SALARY, AS YOU NOTE HERE, IS CURRENTLY 60,010, AND WE'RE CURRENTLY RANK IN THE TOP 10 ON UVA'S DFW COMPARISON SCALE.

BUT WE ALSO RECOGNIZE THAT WE DON'T HOLD THAT SAME RANKING IN OTHER AREAS OF THE SCALE WHICH WE HOPE TO BE ABLE TO ADDRESS AS WE LOOK AT FUTURE CONSIDERATION.

CROWLEY ISD ALSO GO TO THE NEXT.

WE CURRENTLY CONTRIBUTED $225 A MONTH TO OUR EMPLOYEES HEALTH CARE CONTRIBUTION FOR THOSE WHO TAKE PART IN THAT.

[01:00:01]

IN ADDITION TO THEIR BASE SALARY, CROWLEY ISD EMPLOYEES ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE FOR A VARIETY OF COMPETITIVE STIPENDS.

YOU'LL SEE JUST A FEW OF THOSE LISTED HERE.

THEY RANGE FOR STIPENDS FOR OUR CTE STAFF THAT ARE PROVIDING JUST HIGH LEVEL, SO DIFFERENT INDUSTRY EXPERIENCES.

ALSO INCLUDE THINGS SUCH AS OUR BILINGUAL STAFF, OUR SPECIAL SERVICES STAFF THAT ARE PROVIDING SPECIALISTS SUPPORT IN A VARIETY OF AREAS.

YOU'LL SEE MINIBAR STIPENDS RANGE FROM ABOUT 1,000 TO ABOUT 6K.

IN ADDITION, YOU'LL NOTE HERE THAT ANOTHER PART OF THE PLAN THAT IS NEW TO US THIS YEAR IS THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT THAT IS STARTED, AND YOU'LL SEE, I BELIEVE THAT WE IDENTIFIED WE HAVE ABOUT 29 PEOPLE THAT RECEIVED THE TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT PAYOUTS THIS YEAR.

WE ALSO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE AS NEW EMPLOYEES COMING INTO THE DISTRICT TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE RECEIVING THERE A LOT AND THAT THEY WERE AWARDED.

YOU'LL NOTICE HERE THESE NUMBERS ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR THE CISD AVERAGE.

ON AVERAGE, OUR EMPLOYEE THAT RECEIVE RECOGNIZED DESIGNATION OR A LITTLE OVER $4,000 THAT THOSE INDIVIDUALS ARE RECEIVED.

DOWN TO ABOUT A LOT OVER 16,000 FOR THOSE WHO RECEIVED THE MASTER DESIGNATION.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO EXPANDING THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT IN THE DISTRICT THIS YEAR.

I'M GOING TO PAUSE THERE FOR JUST A MOMENT TO SEE IF THERE ANY QUESTION ABOUT OUR CURRENT COMPENSATION.

>> I HAD A QUESTION BUT IT'S NOT ABOUT THAT.

BUT I HEARD YOU SAY THAT YOU WERE LOOKING AT WAYS TO INCREASE THE OTHER YEARS IN THE TOP 10%.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE EFFECT? WILL IT BE IN? YOU'RE LOOKING FOR DOING THAT IN THIS YEAR'S BUDGET OR I MEAN BUDGETS.

>> WE CAN ROLL ONTO THE NEXT SLIDE BECAUSE IT WILL BE MBSR UPCOMING.

AS YOU KNOW, WE TYPICALLY BRING THE COMPENSATION PLAN BACK TO THE BOARD IN MAY WHERE WE'RE DISCUSSING THE POSSIBILITY FOR RAISES AND AREAS SUCH AS THAT.

YOU'LL NOTICE ON HERE FOR OUR FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS, I JUST WANT YOU TO REALLY BEGIN THINKING THROUGH ALONGSIDE OF US AS WE WORK THROUGH THAT PLAN.

THAT FIRST AREA ISN'T DIFFERENTIATED COMPENSATION MODEL.

WE'RE LOOKING AT THE WORK THAT WE DID AT THE TOP OF THE SALARY SCALE FOR LAST YEAR.

WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE AS WE'RE CONSIDERING RAISES FOR OUR 5, 10,15, 20, AND SO ON.

THAT IS ONE OF OUR LARGER CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR AND WE'LL BE LOOKING AT, AGAIN, VARIOUS SALARY RAISES THROUGHOUT THAT.

IT MAY BE RANGES LIKE YOU VOTED TO DO LAST YEAR OR MAYBE A FLAT SALARY RAISE, BUT JUST WANT TO LIFT THAT WE ARE CONSIDERING THAT ONCE ALSO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THE TASK, THE SALARY SURVEY JUST RECENTLY CAME OUT.

THAT WILL GIVE US INSIGHT INTO MANY SPECIFIC AREAS, PARTICULARLY BAR PAIR OF PROFESSIONALS, SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SOME OF THOSE DECISIONS AS WE LOOK AT WHERE WE STAND AS A COHORT IN COMPARISON AS WELL.

>> I HAVE IS CONCERNED THE HEALTH CARE CONTRIBUTIONS SO I BELIEVE WE'LL PAY CONTRIBUTE THE BASE SALARY BASICALLY.

ARE WE LOOKING AT INCREASING OUR ALLOTMENT BECAUSE I BELIEVE WHEN YOU EAT PUBLISHES IT WE'RE AT 43.

>> YES IN FACT, IF YOU WANT TO MR. KIRCHNER, JUST GO AHEAD AND PUT EACH OF THOSE AREAS THAT THESE ARE THE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'RE HAVING NOW AS WELL IN EVALUATING THOSE SAME THINGS SO YOU'LL NOTICE AND I'LL WORK MY WAY DOWN THERE AS WELL THE DIFFERENTIATED COMPENSATION MODEL WILL CONTINUE THE COHORT BENCHMARKING IS YOU'RE DISCUSSING WHAT UA ARE COMPARISONS THERE AND ALL OF THOSE AREAS, PARAPROFESSIONALS OR TEACHERS, AS WELL AS OUR CAMPUS LEADERSHIP CONVERSATIONS THAT WE WANT TO START HAVING NOW, HEALTH-CARE CONTRIBUTION.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK AT WHAT WE CURRENTLY CONTRIBUTE, WHICH IS THE 225, AND WHAT DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF THAT COULD MEAN FOR OUR EMPLOYEES AND AS WELL AS OUR HEALTH CARE CLINIC USAGE IS A BIG PIECE OF THAT THAT WE INVEST

[01:05:02]

IN AND WHAT DO THOSE NUMBER OF VISITS THAT WE'RE SEEING MONTHLY, AND HOW THAT IS BEING BENEFICIAL TO OUR EMPLOYEES AND WHAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO DO IN THAT REGARD.

THEN THE LAST AREA THAT WE ACTUALLY ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO LAUNCHING ON MONDAY, OUR REFERRAL STIPENDS AND SO WE STARTED THAT LAST YEAR.

THAT WAS WE DID A 30 DAY CHALLENGE PUSH FOR OUR INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE CURRENTLY ARE AMAZING TEACHERS THAT ARE HERE AND WE'RE ASKING THEM TO GO FIND SOME MORE AMAZING TEACHERS JUST LIKE YOU AND BRING THEM IN AND PARAPROFESSIONALS AND PROVIDING THEM WHAT THEY REFERRALS STIPEND FOR DOING SO WE WOULD LIKE TO START THAT EARLIER AS WE ARE OPENING OUR HIRING PRACTICES SO WE WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN THAT ON APRIL 3RD THROUGH THE END OF THE SCHOOL.

THESE ARE AGAIN MORE JUST SOME OF THE AREAS THAT WE ARE LOOKING INTO WE'D LIKE TO JUST HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEEDBACKS AS YOU'RE THINKING THROUGH THOSE THINGS AND ASKING YOURSELF THOSE GREAT QUESTIONS AS WELL, AND HAVING AN OPPORTUNITY.

I KNOW YOU'LL HAVE SOME ONE ON ONE TIME WITH DR. MCFARLAND TO PROVIDE THAT FEEDBACK AND THEN WE ALSO WOULD LIKE TO BRING THAT TO LATER BOARD WORKSHOP AS WE PREPARE FOR WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO AND THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

BUT DEFINITELY OPEN TO ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE THIS TIME.

>> MY QUESTION WAS ABOUT THE FINE ARTS AND ATHLETICS, HOW I DIDN'T SEE THEM REPRESENTED UNLESS THEY'RE COATED IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

WHAT DOES THAT STRUCTURE.

>> IN TERMS OF THE STIPEND LIST, YES.

THOSE WHO JUST SOME ABROAD GENERAL STIPENDS, I PROBABLY COULD NOT EVEN COUNT.

WE PROBABLY OFFER ABOUT 60 OR 70 DIFFERENT STIPENDS ESPECIALLY AS IT RELATES TO OUR COACHES, FINE ARTS, A VARIETY AREA OR ACADEMIC STIPENDS THAT WE HAVE SO THESE ARE THE ONES THAT WE USE TO RECRUIT THOSE HIGH NEEDS AREAS, ARE THE ONES THAT WERE REFLECTED HERE TONIGHT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> IS THAT A COMMENT?

>> I LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU'RE LOOKING AND DOING EVEN REFERRALS BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ALSO SEE HOW THAT'S GOING TO OPERATE BECAUSE THAT SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD WORK GREAT BECAUSE SOMETIMES WE KNOW YOUR TEACHERS KNOW OTHER TEACHERS THAT NEED A JOB AND SO FORTH.

I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA, BUT I DEFINITELY LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING MORE ABOUT THAT.

WE WOULD DEFINITELY BRING THAT FORWARD.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS OUR INTENTION IS TO HAVE A WORKSHOP AT OUR NEXT WORKSHOP TO REALLY HAVE A DEEP CONVERSATION ABOUT EACH ONE OF THESE AREAS.

AGAIN, BENCHMARKING IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WILL BE OUR GUIDE.

WE'LL BE LOOKING AT OUR POSITIONS, OUR STIPENDS, AND JUST COMPARING IT ACROSS THE REGION TO MAKE SURE WE CAN COME FORWARD WITH A REASONABLE BUDGE.

ONE OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE ALL ARE AWARE OF WITH US BEING IN A LEGISLATIVE SESSION, WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT THERE HAS BEEN A CONVERSATION AROUND TEACHER SALARY AND SO WHAT WE'RE ATTEMPTING TO DO IS TO FOLLOW IT AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE AND TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT THE LEGISLATION WILL COME FORWARD SO WE KNOW THERE WILL BE LEGISLATION THAT WILL COME FORWARD WITH TEACHER SALARIES AND RAISES.

WE'RE NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT IT WILL BE AND NORMALLY WE AMOUNTS ARE REALLY WHAT ARE RAISES WILL BE AND SO WE HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE SOME TIME TO DO A GOOD STUDY AND MAKE SURE THAT WE KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AS IT RELATES TO THE REQUIREMENTS FROM THE STATE BEFORE WE COME FORWARD WITH ARRAYS IS WE ARE ANTICIPATING PRESENTING RAISES TO THE BOARD.

BUT EXACTLY WHAT THOSE RAYS WILL BE WILL DEPEND ON A LOT OF THESE OTHER FACTORS YOU'VE HEARD TONIGHT SO WE ENTIRELY, OR THEY'VE BEEN WORKING ON THESE MODELS AND THEN PUBLICLY WE'LL START TO WORK ON THOSE AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS AT THIS.

>> I HAVE.

>> WHICH.

>> IS PERTAINING TO HUMAN CAPITAL AS A WHOLE, I KNOW THAT WE HAVEN'T REALLY YOUR OWN PROGRAM.

WHEN WE LOOK AT HOSPITAL RAISED IN CONSIDERATION, CAN WE ALSO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE PARAPROFESSIONALS ARE PARTICIPATING AND GROW YOUR OWN.

HOW MANY MAYBE COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES WE PARTNER WITH? WHO'S BECOME TEACHERS SINCE PARTICIPATING THE PROGRAM.

>> THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION AND WE DEFINITELY WILL BRING THAT DATA FORWARD BECAUSE WE DO HAVE SEVERAL THAT HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THAT, SO WE WILL DEFINITELY HIGHLIGHT I GROW YOUR OWN ROOM.

>> THEN FINALLY, REWARD JUST A VERY QUICK REMINDER THAT WE DO HAVE OUR JOURNEY FAIR COMING UP.

WE WOULD LOVE TO SHARE THAT SPACE WITH YOU ON SATURDAY, APRIL 15TH FROM IT REFUSED SEE IT IN THE PUBLIC FACE.

IT WILL SAY NINE TO NOON, WE DO HAVE A GROUP OF VIP CANDIDATES,

[01:10:02]

IF THEY ARE COMPLETELY IN READING TO BE HIRED ON THE SPOT OR BEDDING THOSE NOW AND THERE'LL BE RECEIVING INVITATIONS THAT THEY CAN COME FROM 8-9 IN ANTICIPATION THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER CONTRACTS THAT INVITATION.

>> THANK YOU. DOCTOR. WE APPRECIATE IT.

THE SECOND FOCUS AREA WILL SUPPORT TECHNICAL SKILLS FOR 80-100 STUDENTS WHO ARE ENTERING INTO ENGINEERING, AVIATION, CONSTRUCTION, HEALTH SCIENCE, OR ARCHITECTURE, AND THAT'S THE TWO-WEEK CAMP.

THEN OUR LAST FOCUS AREAS SUPER-EXCITED ABOUT WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO PAY 30 STUDENTS IN INTERNSHIPS TO SERVE FOR SIX WEEKS IN OUR DISTRICTS THIS SUMMER.

WE WILL HAVE INTERNS FROM THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM THAT WILL SUPPORT ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL.

WE WILL HAVE LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENTS SERVING IN THE CISD POLICE DEPARTMENT, OUR MEDIA ARTS STUDENTS WILL BE IN THE OFFICE AND COMMUNICATIONS.

OUR STUDENTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WILL BE IN OUR TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

OUR HEALTH SCIENCE STUDENTS WILL BE SERVING HEALTH SERVICES THIS SUMMER.

THEN FINALLY, OUR PLANT SCIENCE, OUR ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS WILL BE WORKING IN CONSTRUCTION, WORKING WITH MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS.

FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH, WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO SECURE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN $1.3 MILLION JUST FOR MARCH.

[APPLAUSE] WE LOOK AT THE YEAR THIS FUND, THE GRANTS OF TRANSFORMATION DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN ABLE TO SECURE ALMOST $4.7 MILLION.

THIS CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.

[APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS?

>> MANY.

>> MRS. DAVIS.

>> MANY COMMENTS, AND THEN I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TOO, BECAUSE I LOVE GRANTS.

NUMBER 1, SO THE FIRST SLIDE, IF YOU BACK TO THAT ONE.

WHAT WAS MY QUESTION? I KNOW WHAT IT WAS. YOU SAID THIS IS FOR MALE, RIGHT?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> THEY'RE GOING TO COME IN AND WHAT WILL THEY DO TO, THEY'RE GOING TO LOOK AT THE CURRICULUM WE HAVE NOW?

>> YES, MA'AM. WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS THERE'S A COMPANY THAT WE WILL UTILIZE WHO'LL COME IN AND WILL HELP US.

OUR CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT TRULY DISSECT OUR CURRENT CURRICULUM AND REBUILD OUR FRAMEWORK, AND THEY'LL WORK ALONGSIDE US TO HELP US.

THERE WAS A COMMITTEE OF TEACHERS AND MR. KEITH, HIS DEPARTMENT WILL COME COMPLETELY LEAD THAT EFFORT, BUT THEY WILL COME IN AND HELP US COMPLETELY REDESIGN WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW TO BE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT.

WE'LL HAVE A YEAR TO PLAN, AND THEN A YEAR OR TWO THAT WE'LL BEGIN TO IMPLEMENT.

>> THAT'S REALLY GREAT.

THEN SOMETHING ABOUT THE SUMMER GRANT.

IT SAID IT'S GOING TO PAY STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT EMPLOYED BY PRIVATE BUSINESSES?

>> IT WILL SUPPORT INTO PAID INTERNSHIPS WITHIN OUR DISTRICT, SO STUDENTS DOING INTERNSHIPS WITHIN OUR DISTRICT.

>> OKAY. AT THE END OF THIS, WHAT WILL THAT LOOK LIKE FOR STUDENTS?

>> IT IS TRULY AN INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE WHERE THEY'RE GETTING SUPPORT WITH EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS, THEY'RE GETTING ON-THE-JOB TRAINING.

WITH THIS IT'S A JOB THAT THEY'RE DOING FOR US.

THEY ALSO WILL GO THROUGH SOME CAREER COACHING DURING THAT TIME.

>> THEN IS THERE SOME FOLLOW UP FOR THAT?

>> THEY ARE OUR CURRENT CTE STUDENTS SO THEY WILL CONTINUE IN

[01:25:05]

THEIR CTE PROGRAMS OF STUDY NEXT YEAR UNLESS THEY'RE SENIOR.

>> BUILD ON WHAT THEY DID IN THE SUMMER?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> THANK YOU.

>> HAD A QUESTION TO GO ALONG WITH WHAT MRS. DAVIS SAID.

ARE THEY APPLYING? ARE THEY SELECTED? [OVERLAPPING]

>> IT WILL BE AN APPLICATION ANALYSIS. YES, MA'AM.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DR. HALL.

>> MY QUESTION WAS ABOUT THE TECHNICAL EDUCATION GRANT AND TELL ME THIS DOESN'T APPLY.

WHERE IT ALLOWS YOU TO BUY TECHNOLOGY, I THINK THAT'S ON OF THE THREE, FOR JUST TECHNOLOGY DEVICES FOR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT.

I KNOW I'VE ASKED THE QUESTION BEFORE ABOUT ACCESS TO INTERNET ACCESS, AND I JUST KNOW STATISTICS ABOUT THAT.

THAT MAY NOT BE A REALITY FOR OUR CROWLEY ISD STUDENTS.

DO WE KNOW IF OUR STUDENTS HAVE INTERNET ACCESS ISSUES AT ALL AT HOME AND THEN THERE'S A GRANT ALLOWED LIKE THIS, ALLOW US TO PROVIDE ACCESS FOR STUDENTS WHO MIGHT?

>> FOR YOUR FIRST QUESTION, I'M NOT SURE. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> YES. LET ME SPECIFY WHAT THIS ARE FOR AND THEN I ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.

THIS ITEM IS ACTUALLY A REIMBURSEMENT.

EARLIER IN THE YEAR WE PURCHASED DEVICES, BUT THIS WILL ALLOW US TO REALLY REIMBURSE WHAT 199 BUDGET FOR THAT.

BUT TO YOUR QUESTION ABOUT ACCESS.

THERE IS A CHALLENGE WITH ACCESS IN CERTAIN PARTS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND SO WE'RE WORKING WITH THE CITY OF FORT WORTH AND SEVERAL OTHER AGENCIES TO TRY TO EXTEND BROADBAND AND EXTEND ACCESS.

WE FOUND OUT THAT WE DO HAVE CHALLENGES WITH ACCESS IN SOME PARTS OF OUR COMMUNITY.

EVEN PARTS THEY LOOK FULLY DEVELOPED WITH NICE HOMES, NICE NEIGHBORHOOD, THEY'RE STILL SIGNIFICANT INFRASTRUCTURAL ISSUES.

THIS WON'T HELP US ADDRESS THAT BUT WE'RE WORKING ON SOME OTHER PARTNERS.

>> WELL, THANK YOU, MS. POLK.

>> THANK YOU.

>> 11.2 CHANGE ORDER TO THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS CONTRACT FOR SCOPING SERVICE. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, THIS NEXT ITEM AS IT'S LISTED, IT'S A CHANGE ORDER TO OUR CURRENT CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS CONTRACT TO REALLY ADDRESS ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS THAT WE HAVE THAT'S EVOLVED SINCE THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT WITH THE CURRENT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER.

AS YOU REMEMBER, WHEN WE STARTED THE CAIRO'S PROJECT, WE HIRED A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER FOR THAT PROJECT.

WE AGAIN HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL CHALLENGES THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS AND SO THIS IS WHAT THIS CHANGE ORDERS IS REALLY FOR.

THIS OFFICIAL WILL PRESENT THIS ITEM, MR. FISHER.

>> EXCELLENT SYNOPSIS, SIR.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE DOING HERE, ATTEMPTING TO ADDRESS SOME ISSUES AT NORTH CROWLEY AND THE CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE JROTC MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING.

>> ALSO JUST A BOARD JUST TO FOLLOW UP WITH OUR HEARTBEAT OF WAR WITH US TONIGHT, WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE JROTC PROGRAM, BUT CURRENTLY WE ONLY HAVE IT AT OUR NORTH CROWLEY.

WHAT WE ARE PLANNING TO DO FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR IS TO MOVE IT TO CROWLEY HIGH AS WELL SO THAT STUDENTS CAN HAVE IT ON BOTH SIDES OF OUR DISTRICT, WHICH WILL REQUIRE US TO DO THE ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION.

THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THIS ALL ABOUT ADDRESS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND AND MR. FISHER.

AGENDA ITEM 11.3, THE REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF, SHARED SERVICE AGREEMENT MEMBERSHIP. DR. CARLIN.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MS. BAPTIST WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

>> GOOD EVENING BOARD MEMBERS AND DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD, DR. MCFARLAND, AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

I AM EXCITED TO SHARE WITH YOU SOME OF THE PREVIOUS INFORMATION YOU MAY KNOW, AND ALSO SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT YOU MAY NOT BE AWARE OF.

THE REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF PRESENTATION DEALS WITH THRIVING STUDENTS, ENGAGED COMMUNITY, AND EMPOWERED STAFF.

OUR REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF CENTRAL OFFICE STAFF IS SHANNON JOHNSON, OUR REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM COORDINATOR.

NANCY OLSON IS OUR ITINERANT TEACHER, AND BASICALLY, THAT MEANS THAT IT GOES OUT TO OUR DISTRICTS AND SERVICES STUDENTS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT AND HEARING NEEDS IN THEIR DISTRICT.

OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR IS MS. TAMIKA WILLIAMS, AND OUR SPECIAL PROGRAMS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IS MARIA ANGUIANO.

[01:30:02]

THERE ARE THREE BASIC SYSTEMS IN PLACE THAT PROVIDE PUBLIC DEAF EDUCATION SERVICES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

A STUDENT MAY RECEIVE SERVICES FROM ONE OR MORE OF THESE SYSTEMS, THE LOCAL EDUCATION AGENCY OR HOMESCHOOL DISTRICT, THE REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF, OR THE TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF.

CURRENTLY, IN CROWLEY ISD, WE HAVE A REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF, SO WE ARE WHAT'S CALLED THE FISCAL AGENT, WHICH MEANS THAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLIANCE AND BUDGETARY IMPACT.

THESE PROGRAMS WERE DEVELOPED TO HELP MAXIMIZE RESOURCES AND STAFF TO BETTER SERVE STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.

EACH RDSPD IS UNIQUE AND MAY OFFER VARIOUS SERVICES DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THEY SERVE, AS WELL AS OTHER FACTORS.

AS YOU CAN SEE WITH OUR SHARED SERVICE AGREEMENT, WE HAVE A CONTRACT IN PLACE WITH THE FOLLOWING DISTRICTS, ALVARADO, BURLESON, CLEBURNE, EVERMAN, JOSHUA, AND THE JOHNSON COUNTY SHARED SERVICES WHICH CONSIST OF GODLEY, GRANDVIEW, KEENE, AND RIO VISTA.

AT OUR REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF WE'RE CURRENTLY SERVICING 37 STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD AND OUR ITINERANT STUDENTS THESE ARE THE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THEIR HOME DISTRICTS.

WE HAVE 75 OF THOSE STUDENTS.

ALVARADO HAS ZERO STUDENTS COMING INTO CROWLEY, BUT WE HAVE SIX ITINERANT STUDENTS THAT WE SERVICE.

BURLESON HAS ONE STUDENT COMING TO CROWLEY AND 11 ITINERANT STUDENTS.

CLEBURNE HAS FIVE STUDENTS HERE IN CROWLEY, AND 12 ITINERANT STUDENTS THAT WE GO OUT AND SERVICE.

AT CROWLEY, WE HAVE THE MOST, AND THAT IS ACTUALLY A POINT OF DESTINATION.

SOME PARENTS ACTUALLY MOVE WITHIN CROWLEY ISD TO ENSURE THAT THEIR STUDENTS GET THE ADEQUATE SERVICES THAT WE OFFER THROUGH OUR RDSPD.

WE HAVE 28 STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD AND WE HAVE 15 ITINERANT STUDENTS, AND HOW THAT LOOKS IN CROWLEY ISD WE HAVE STUDENTS THAT MAY NOT NEED TO BE IN THE BOWL DEAF EDUCATION CLASS, BUT THEY'D GO OUT AND THE REGULAR CLASSROOM WITH INTERPRETERS AND OTHER SUPPORTS.

EVERMAN, WE HAVE ONE STUDENT IN EVERMAN THAT COMES TO US.

WE HAVE SIX ITINERANT STUDENTS THAT WE GO OUT TO SERVICE JOHNSON COUNTY.

NONE OF THEM COME TO OUR ACTUAL RDSPD.

WE HAVE SIX ITINERANT STUDENTS THAT WE GO OUT AND SERVICE.

JOSHUA ISD SENDS TWO STUDENTS TO US AND WE GO OUT AND SEE 19 STUDENTS.

JUST FOR A POINT OF CLARIFICATION, WE DO NOT PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION.

TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED BY THEIR HOME DISTRICT.

AS FAR AS TEACHERS GO, WE HAVE A GREAT STAFF, THEY'RE CLOSE-KNIT FAMILY.

WE HAVE 17 ELEMENTARY TEACHERS, 9 MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS, AND 11 HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS.

WE HAVE 17 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, NINE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, AND 11 HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS.

WE HAVE THREE ELEMENTARY RDSPD TEACHERS AT DEER CREEK, ONE MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER AT RAMS, TWO HIGH-SCHOOL TEACHERS AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, AND OUR INTERPRETERS ARE SPREAD ACROSS THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING THE BRJCTE.

THE STUDENTS CAN HAVE CHOICES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN EVERY ASPECT.

WE HAVE THREE INTERPRETERS IN ELEMENTARY, THREE INTERPRETERS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND FIVE INTERPRETERS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS, WE HAVE TWO AT THE ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM SETTING AND NONE IN MIDDLE OR HIGH SCHOOL.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PRESENTATION TONIGHT IS TO LET YOU KNOW THAT IN APRIL WE START MEETING WITH OUR PARTNER DISTRICTS AND SO WE'LL HAVE A CENTRALIZED MEETING TALKING ABOUT WHAT IS TO COME FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.

WE'LL START ISSUING THEM CONTRACTS AND BASICALLY, ONCE THEY GET THE CONTRACTS, EVERYTHING WILL BE UPDATED FOR THE 23, 24 SCHOOL YEAR AND ONCE YOU ALL APPROVE IT AND ACCEPT IT FROM THEIR PARTNERING BOARDS WE'LL BE READY TO GO FORWARD IN THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL YEAR WITH EVERYTHING IN PLACE.

I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE AT THIS TIME.

>> GO AHEAD, MR. RUSSELL.

>> NORMALLY DON'T WE JUST APPROVE I MEAN, IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S A LOT MORE THAN WHAT WE NORMALLY DO, SO WE ARE I GUESS [INAUDIBLE] NOW?

>> NO, IT'S TYPICALLY WHAT WE DO.

WE JUST HAVE TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND I JUST WANTED TO GIVE THEM A BACKGROUND ON WHAT THE RDSPD IS AND IN A FUTURE BOARD MEETING, I'M GOING ALL THE WAY TO NEXT YEAR.

MAYBE IT'LL BE PART OF YOUR CONSENT AGENDA.

>> I WAS LIKE, THAT'S A LOT OF INFORMATION.

[LAUGHTER]

>> I WAS GOING TO ASK THE QUESTION WITH REGARDS.

I KNOW THAT WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST.

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE WE HAD THIS PARTNERSHIP? I KNOW SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD, BUT I THINK MS. DAVIS HAD TOLD ME ABOUT IT WHEN I FIRST JOINED THE BOARD,

[01:35:04]

HOW LONG HAVE WE HAD THIS PARTNERSHIP?

>> IT'S BEEN A LONG-STANDING PROBABLY A FEW YEARS.

I DON'T KNOW IF MS. ADRIAN IS HERE.

SHE COULD BETTER ANSWER THAT QUESTION, BUT I CAN GET THAT TO LET YOU KNOW.

BUT IT'S DEFINITELY BEEN OVER 10 YEARS I THINK FOR SURE.

>> I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME OUT.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> ONE OTHER QUESTION. WITH THE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ARE THEY ALL AT ONE CAMPUS OR ARE [OVERLAPPING]?

>> FOR THE RD SVP, YES.

THEY'RE ALL AT DEER CREEK.

THE BRIGHT SPOT ABOUT THAT IS THEY'RE ALL WITHIN THE CITY OF CROWLEY LIMITS, ALL OF OUR CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL SO WE HAVEN'T EXPANDED AT THIS TIME.

>> INTERPRETERS, ARE THEY SPANISH SPEAKING AS WELL AND IS SPANISH, THE ONLY OTHER LANGUAGE THEY SPEAK?

>> CURRENTLY RIGHT NOW, OUR ASL INTERPRETERS, AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS, WE ARE ONLY DOING ENGLISH AT THIS TIME.

HOWEVER, OUR COORDINATER REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF COORDINATOR, SHANNON JOHNSON SHE IS BILINGUAL IN SPANISH AS WELL AS WITH THE SIGN LANGUAGE AND WE ALSO CONTRACT A COMPANY CALLED TIN.

THEY DO ALL DIFFERENT TYPE OF LANGUAGE ACQUISITION AND TRANSLATIONS INCLUDING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE AND FOR THOSE WHO MAY BE VIETNAMESE, SINCE WE DO HAVE A HIGH POPULATION OF VIETNAMESE STUDENTS AND SPANISH IF NEEDED BECAUSE SHE'S ONLY ONE PERSON.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> IT'S DEFINITELY A POINT OF PRIDE.

AT THIS TIME, I BELIEVE THAT CONCLUDES OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEMS. WE THE BOARD WILL NOW ADJOURN TO
