[4.0 Superintendent Report]

>> PRESIDENT BOARD MEMBERS IS DEFINITELY EXCITING TO BE ABLE TO BRING YOU THIS REPORT THIS AFTERNOON.

THE FIRST THING I WANT TO DO IS JUST REALLY THANK THE BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY AND THE TEAM ACTUALLY, FOR ALL THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE AND REALLY TRYING TO COMMUNICATE AND EDUCATE ABOUT OUR BOND ELECTION.

AS WE ALL KNOW, WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF EARLY VOTING.

WE HAVE SEVERAL EARLY VOTING LOCATIONS.

JUST WANTED TO REMIND THE COMMUNITY EARLY VOTING IS ONGOING.

THE TURNOUT HAS BEEN GREAT AND SO WE WANT TO KEEP THAT UP.

THERE ARE A COUPLE OF EARLY VOTING SITES.

WE HAVE THE BILL R. JOHNSON AS AN EARLY VOTING SITE.

WE HAVE THE CROUCH EVENT CENTER BY CENTENNIAL PARK, NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

SOUTHWEST OF THE COURTHOUSE, EAST OF VILLAGE REALTY CENTER, JAMES ADAMS SERVICE CENTER, AND THEN ALSO THE SOUTHWEST REGIONAL LIBRARY.

HERE EARLY VOTING IS ONGOING APRIL 24TH TO THE 28TH, FROM 8:00-5:00, APRIL 29TH, WHICH IS A SATURDAY FROM 7:00 AM-7:00 PM.

YOU HEARD THIS STATUS AND MENTION OUR SPRING FAMILY DAY, AND SO THERE'LL BE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO COME OUT AND ENJOY.

STUDENTS CAN ALSO VOTE IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT BY THAT BY THAT TIME.

ALSO APRIL 30TH FROM 11:00 AM-4:00 PM, AND THEN MAY 1ST AND 2ND, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM.

I JUST REALLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO GET OUT AND VOTE.

IN ORDER FOR A DEMOCRACY TO WORK THE PEOPLE HAVE TO VOTE. USE YOUR VOTE.

YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE.

THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROCESS.

BUT LET'S LOOK AT THIS QUICK VIDEO AND THEN WE WILL MOVE TO THE NEXT ITEM.

>> DID YOU KNOW CROWLEY ISD IS HAVING AN BOND ELECTION? IT IS GOING TO BUILD NEW SCHOOLS, RENOVATE OURS, AND HELP MAKE OUR SCHOOLS SAFER AND SO MUCH MORE.

YOU CAN LEARN ALL THE FACTS ON OUR WEBSITE BUT HERE ARE JUST A FEW MORE HIGHLIGHTS.

>> IT'S A COMMUNITY DRIVEN PLAN.

>> IT ENHANCES SAFETY AND SECURITY.

>> THIS PLAN HELPS US MANAGE OUR FAST GROWTH.

>> BECAUSE OF THAT GROWTH THERE'LL BE NO TAX RATE INCREASE.

>> THIS PLAN BENEFITS EVERY STUDENT AT EVERY SCHOOL.

NOW, YOU CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT MY PROJECTS, THE VOTING DATES, POLLING LOCATIONS, AND MORE ON OUR WEBSITE.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

CROWLEY PLAN.

>> UTILIZE.

>> THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNICATION TEAM AND ALSO TO THE COMMUNITY AGAIN, FOR HELPING US FULLY GET THIS PLAN.

I ALSO WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU, MS. BELTIS I BELIEVE IS COMING UP.

I WANT TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON WHAT'S OCCURRING AT THE ELLEN AUSTIN.

WE HAD A VERY SIGNIFICANT ACTION TAKEN, I THINK IT WAS YESTERDAY.

MS. BELTIS WILL SHARE WITH YOU THE SPECIFICS AROUND HB100. THAT'S IT.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. GOOD EVENING.

DR. OR PRESIDENT ELIZABETH BANKFIELD, DR. MCFARLAND AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

AS YOU ALL ARE AWARE OF, THE 88TH LEGISLATURE IS STILL MEETING.

THERE'S AN ACTUAL BILL THAT IS REALLY BIG AND BEING TRACKED RIGHT NOW AS HB100.

HB100 IS GOING TO BE A HISTORIC BILL THAT IS PROJECTED TO INCREASE ABOUT $4.5 BILLION INTO TEXAS SCHOOLS.

[00:20:01]

BASICALLY THE SUMMARY OF THE BILL IS DEALING WITH OUR COMPENSATION, OUR SCHOOL FINANCE SYSTEM, HOW WE LOOK AT ENROLLMENT, AND OTHER ALLOTMENTS UNDER THE FOUNDATION SCHOOL.

THE SUBJECTS IN THIS BILL ARE THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION.

HOW WE LOOK AT ADMISSION AND ATTENDANCE AND FUNDING THAT, OUR CURRICULUM AND HOW WE FIND THAT FINANCE, OTHER SCHOOL PERSONNEL, OUR SPECIAL PROGRAMS, OUR TEACHERS.

HOW THEY GET PAID AND WHAT THEY GET PAID AND SETTING THE BASELINE, AND GET SOME EQUITY ACROSS THE STATE.

AGAIN, OUR SALARIES AND EXPENSES WITH THE FOUNDATION SCHOOL PROGRAM AND WE ARE IN THE KNOW AS ATTACHED TO THE FOUNDATION SCHOOL PROGRAM.

THIS BILL SHOWS A LOT OF PROMISE BECAUSE AS YOU CAN SEE, IT WAS HIGHLY BI-PARTISAN.

THE PRIMARY SPONSORS ARE LISTED UP THERE AND MOST OF THEM ARE PART OF THE MAJORITY PARTY AND SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AT THIS TIME IT'S PROGRESSING WELL.

IT PASSED THE HOUSE AND IT'S GETTING READY TO GO TO THE SENATE.

JUST KEEP IT ON YOUR RADARS AND WE'LL SHARE MORE INFORMATION ON THE WAY YOU CAN CONTACT AND HOW DO THEY CONTACT THEM WITH JUST A SIMPLE EMAIL OR PHONE CALL.

>> ALSO MADAM PRESIDENT JUST TO FOLLOW UP, THIS BILL THEY HAVE RAN THE NUMBERS ON THE IMPACT THAT WILL HAVE FINANCIALLY ON THE DISTRICT.

THIS BILL WILL DEFINITELY IMPACT US IN A POSITIVE WAY SIGNIFICANTLY.

WE HAVE SHARED THOSE NUMBERS WITH OUR CFO, WITH OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE.

WE WILL BE CREATING A STRATEGY TO REACH OUT TO OUR CENSORS BECAUSE WE THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THEY HEAR FROM US.

WE REALLY BELIEVE THAT THE FUNDS ARE NEEDED IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY NOW FOR US TO ACT, AND WE'LL BE SHARING INFORMATION WITH YOU NEXT WEEK ABOUT HOW WE COULD GET ENGAGED.

>> I DO HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

MS. BELTIS YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT LEVELING SALARIES ACROSS THE STATE.

>> YES.

>> HOW'S THAT? DID THEY SAY ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT THAT MIGHT LOOK LIKE OR HOW THAT WOULD BE ACCOMPLISHED?

>> WHEN IT CAME OUT OF COMMITTEE IT'S HAD SEVERAL AMENDMENTS AND MANY OF THOSE AMENDMENTS DEAL WITH JUST THOSE PARTICULAR ITEMS. THEY THREW OUT A FEW NUMBERS LIKE 45,000 BECAUSE SOME IN THE RURAL AREAS, THEY DON'T REALLY MAKE THAT MUCH.

IT HASN'T GONE TO THE CITY YET, AND IT COULD POSSIBLY BE VETTED AGAIN.

DISTRICTS LIKE OURS AREN'T REALLY PART OF THAT BASELINE BECAUSE WE EXCEED EXACTLY THAT BASELINE NUMBER.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING ENROLLMENT.

THIS ATTENDANCE TODAY [INAUDIBLE]

>> THAT IS ANOTHER ONE THAT WAS BEING VOLLEY BALLED AROUND OR TENNIS BALLED AROUND.

WE REALLY WOULD HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE WHAT COMES OUT OF THE ACTUAL SENATE PART OF IT.

THE SPREADSHEET THAT DR. MCFARLAND WAS REFERRING TO, IT GAVE US SECTION FACE ON IF THEY WENT WITH THE ADA OR IF THEY WON'T BE ENROLL WITH.

IT'S JUST ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S HAPPENING.

>> THERE'S PROBABLY ABOUT $3.9 MILLION DIFFERENCE IN HOW THEY CAN CALCULATE.

IF THEY DECIDED TO GO WITH THE WAY WE CURRENTLY USE IT, IT WILL BE POSITIVE FOR WHAT'S ABOUT $3.9 MILLION.

IF THEY DECIDE TO DO DIFFERENTLY THEN WE COULD HAVE IT DIFFERENT.

>> I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE BOARD MEMBERS TOO.

WE HAVE THE ADVOCACY DAY IN AUSTIN.

IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT THOSE EFFORTS YOU HELP, AS SEVERAL OF THOSE MEMBERS THAT WERE LISTED AS SPONSORS WE SPOKE TO THAT DAY.

I JUST WANT TO AGAIN, THANK THE BOARD MEMBERS THAT ATTENDED ADVOCACY DAY, AT CAPITOL.

THANK YOU TOO FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP.

>> THANK YOU. ALSO, THE REPRESENTATIVES ARE LISTENING AND THEY'RE NOT JUST LISTENING TO PEOPLE LIKE US.

THEY'RE LISTENING TO EVERYBODY IN THE ROOM.

INPUT IS GREAT AND LIKE DR. MCFARLAND SAID EARLIER, FOR EVERYONE IN THIS MEETING TONIGHT, OUR VOTE MATTERS AND THEN WE ALL CAN CONTACT OUR REPRESENTATIVES.

THANK YOU, YOU MAY SIT.

THANK YOU DR. MCFARLAND.

[5.0 Recognition Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 5.1, THE FORT WORTH ORCHESTRA CONCERTO COMPETITION WINNER MS. NATALIE CALDWELL. MR. KIRSCHNER.

[00:25:04]

>> THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND.

THIS RECOGNITION ITEM TONIGHT ALIGNS WITH GOLD ONE THRIVING STUDENT AND YOU WERE ABOUT TO MEET SOMEONE WHO THRIVES.

I'M GOING TO INVITE MS. NATALIE CALDWELL, GO TO THE FRONT.

SHE'S GOING TO STAND ON THE PLATFORM WHILE I TELL YOU JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HER.

NATALIE IS NO STRANGER TO CROWLEY ISD.

SHE'S A SENIOR AT NORTH CROWLEY, BUT SHE STARTED HERE IN FIRST GRADE AT OAKLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, INTERMEDIATE AT SUE CROUCH AND IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AT SUMMER CREEK AND THEN NORTH CROWLEY, NINTH GRADE AND NOW AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

SHE'S ABOUT TO GRADUATE.

SHE ALSO HAS PLAYED VIOLIN SINCE SHE WAS SIX.

THAT WAS ALSO HER FIRST GRADE.

SHE HAS MADE THE TMEA, THAT'S THE TEXAS MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION, ALL REGIONS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA FOR THREE YEARS AND ALL STATES SYMPHONY, THAT'S A REALLY BIG DEAL, FOR TWO YEARS.

SHE'S BEEN IN THE FORT WORTH YOUTH ORCHESTRA PROGRAM FOR SEVEN YEARS.

SHE'S VERY BUSY.

I BELIEVE SHE'S ALSO A NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY HERE AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

BUT THIS PAST FEBRUARY, SHE WAS RECOGNIZED BY THE FORT WORTH YOUTH ORCHESTRA FOR PLACING SECOND IN THEIR ANNUAL CONCERTO COMPETITION, AND SHE ALSO SERVED AS THE CONCERT MASTER.

I HAVE THAT PROGRAM HERE, IT'S A PHENOMENAL NIGHT.

THIS IS A PRESTIGIOUS HONOR AND TONIGHT WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HEAR NATALIE PLAY.

BUT BEFORE WE DO I WANT TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT NATALIE'S STORY.

SINCE 2017, SHE'S BEEN VISITING SCOTTISH RITE HOSPITAL FOR ADOLESCENT SCOLIOSIS TREATMENT.

HER CONDITION CAUSED A DOUBLE CURVE IN HER SPINE.

HER DOCTOR FOR QUITE A WHILE PRESCRIBED HER A CUSTOM-MADE BRACE TO FURTHER PRESENT THE CURVING OF THE SPINE.

BUT AFTER WEARING THAT BRACE FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

UNFORTUNATELY, NATALIE'S SPINE CONTINUED TO CURVE AND THE ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON WHO'S THERE RECOMMENDED THAT SHE UNDERGO A POSTERIOR SPINAL FUSION TO PERMANENTLY CORRECT HER CURVE AND TO STOP ITS PROGRESSION.

I'LL LET YOU ALL SEE THIS BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURE.

SHE HAD A SUCCESSFUL SURGERY IN OCTOBER OF 2022, LESS THAN SIX MONTHS AGO.

NOW SHE'S BACK DOING WHAT SHE LOVES, AND THAT'S PLAYING THE VIOLIN AND COMING BACK TO SCHOOL IN-PERSON BECAUSE SHE HAD TO BE VIRTUAL THERE FOR A WHILE.

WE CAN SEE HER PERFORM.

BEFORE SHE DOES START, I WANT TO LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT NATALIE HAS ACCEPTED A FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP TO TCU TO PURSUE A DEGREE IN VIOLIN.

THERE'S A DEVIL BEFORE [INAUDIBLE] [APPLAUSE] WE'RE JUST SO INSPIRED BY HER AND THE WORK SHE'S DONE ALL THROUGHOUT HER TIME HERE AT CROWLEY ISD.

WE'RE EXCITED TO CHEER ON AS SHE CROSSES THE STAGE AT GRADUATION NEXT MONTH.

HER MOM IS HERE AS WELL.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING HER TO BE HERE.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO HAND OVER TO NATALIE AND LET HER FORM THIS PIECE THIS EVENING.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, NATALIE CALDWELL.

[00:31:52]

>> [INAUDIBLE] [MUSIC] [APPLAUSE]

>> LET'S GIVE HER ANOTHER ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

[APPLAUSE] [INAUDIBLE] COMPETITION WINNER.

WE ARE SO SUPER PROUD OF YOU, AND THANK YOU PARENTS FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND SUPPORT AS WELL.

BIG THINGS ARE COMING FOR OUR NATION, LOVE IT.

WE'RE VERY PROUD OF YOU. THANK YOU AGAIN.

BEAUTIFUL. AT THIS TIME OR AT AGENDA ITEM 5.2, THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS CHAMPIONS. [INAUDIBLE]

>> PRISON BUBER WILL BE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.

WE HAVE MR. BRADFORD PARK.

>> THANK YOU, MS. SCHOPENHAUER, AND THANK YOU, MR. BRADLEY.

LET ME TELL YOU, THEY ARE HIGHLY COMPETITIVE, AND THEY WANT TO DO IT AGAIN.

SUPER THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND YOUR DEDICATION TO THAT PROGRAM [OVERLAPPING] [APPLAUSE] YES, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> I JUST WANTED TO ADD DR. FARLAND, WAS SPEAKING WITH SOME OF THESE STUDENTS EARLIER AND I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT QUESTION HE ASKED.

BUT THE ANSWER THAT ONE OF THE STUDENTS GAVE IS, BECAUSE WE'RE THE SMARTEST STUDENTS IN SCHOOL.

[00:40:03]

[LAUGHTER] WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT HERE, WHAT CAME BEFORE YOU WAS THE SMARTEST STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT.

[LAUGHTER]

>> AWESOME. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

WELL, THE AGENDA ITEM 5.3, THE HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, THE BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE ALWAYS EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS RECOGNITION MR. CARSON IS HERE TO PRESENT THE HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD.

>> THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, WE NEED TO DO THIS EVERY MONTH.

ONE EMPLOYEE WHO GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY, THIS MUST EMPLOY FOR APRIL IS PHENOMENAL AND THE PROGRAM, AND THE CLASSES, THE TEACHERS ARE JUST TOP-NOTCH AND TAKING CROWLEY ISD TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

YOU'RE GOING TO WATCH THIS VIDEO.

UNDERSTAND WHY. [MUSIC]

>> WE'RE HERE FOR A SPECIAL PRESENTATION.

BECAUSE MR. STARNES IS THE HEART BEAT TEAM AWARD, WHATEVER YOU'RE ALL CROWLEY ISD LET'S CHEER TO MR. STARNES.

[APPLAUSE] YOU ALL KNOW HE DOESN'T LIE, BUT ALL THE CLASSES HE IS THE GO-TO-PERSON HERE AT CTE.

NOT ONLY IS HE A PHENOMENAL TEACHER, BUT A GREAT MENTOR.

YOU ARE ALSO UNDERSTAND TO NOTICE, SOMETHING'S BROKEN, WE'LL BRING MR. STARNES.

WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO HERE AND I ONLY THE FOR CTE, BUT FOR ALL CROWLEY ISD FOR THE STUDENTS AND THE STAFF AND THE FAMILIES, YOU ARE OUR HEART BEAT WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THE REASON I THINK HE DESERVES THIS AWARD IS BECAUSE HE IS A MAGNIFICENT TEACHER.

HE'S PROBABLY THE BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD, AND THE FACT THAT BECAUSE THAT GOES A LOT OUT OF HIS WAY.

HE MAKES LITERALLY THE RISKS.

>> HE'S VERY DESERVING OF THIS AWARD BECAUSE HE IS A REALLY GOOD TEACHER AND HE'S HARDWORKING, HE MAKES SURE THAT THE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING, ESPECIALLY BEING ON TASK IN THE CLASSROOM, AND HE'S MAKING SURE THAT STUDENTS ARE LEARNING, BUT ALSO HAVING FUN WITH THE SUBJECT.

WHEN WE THINK OF THE HEART BEAT AWARD, WE THINK OF SOMEONE WHO'S CARING, AND I THINK MR. STARNES IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.

HE REALLY GAINING PERSONAL CONNECTION WITH YOU, AND HE REALLY TRIED TO HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL.

YES WE DO HAVE CERTIFICATIONS THAT WE GOT TOWARD BUT HE'S ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO GET OUT OF THIS CLASS. WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT IS YOUR GOAL FOR THE DAY? ARE YOU HAVING A BAD DAY? WE CAN WORK ON THIS TOMORROW JUST MAKES SURE THAT THEY'RE OKAY AND MAKING SURE THAT YOU'RE GETTING GOOD.

>> FOR HIM TO RECEIVE THIS AWARD I WAS NOT SURPRISED, HONESTLY.

HE'S A VERY HARD WORKING PERSON AND HE CARES ABOUT EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN ALL OF HIS CLASSES.

HE TRIES HARDEST TO SEE US STRICTLY.

>> MR. STARNES HELPING IT, HE'S IN SOME IT TECHNOLOGY MAKING DOUBLES IN ROBOTICS, CYBERSECURITY, HE DOES NETWORKING, ACUTE AND MAINTENANCE.

BUT HE ALSO MAKES A CTSO WHICH IS JUST LIKE FOR YOUR CTE.

THIS HERE HE WAS ABLE TO TAKE A SET OF STUDENTS TO SKILLSUSA, WHICH IS JUST COMPETITION, THE STUDENTS MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO STATE IN THE NATIONALS.

>> IT WAS A VERY BIG THING FOR US TO SEE OUR NAME ON THE BOARD.

THE SCREEN GOES FROM THIRD, SECOND, FIRST, SO WE SAW THIRD AND WE DIDN'T SEE OUR NAME AND THEN WE SAW SECOND AND DIDN'T SEE OUR NAME.

THEN WE'RE LIKE VERY STRESSED OUT AND THERE'S A LOT OF ANXIETY AND THEN WHEN WE SAW OUR NAME AND WE JUST FREAKED OUT AND GETTING UP ON THE STAGE INFRONT OF 8,000 PEOPLE WHICH WAS JUST SUPER AMAZING.

>> A BIG EVENT WAS GETTING OUT OF SEVEN AND STARTING A JOURNEY WITHOUT SIGNS I WENT DOWN DEEP IN THE PART ONE SAYS, SURE IT WAS PROBABLY NOT TEST PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE STARTING AROUND SEE AND GET TRUNK ACHES AFTER STUNTS.

AND JUSTICE HOW THE COMMITTEE AND HE WAS FOR US, IT'S JUST AMAZING, AND HOW CAN ANYONE WHO DESERVES THE HEART BEAT AWARD MORE THAN MR. STARNES

>> CROWELY ISD HAS REALLY GRIPPED ME IN A POSITION TO REDUCE THE LOSSES THING FOR STUDENTS, TAKE THEM TO STATE COMPETITION.

I GIVE YOU THE SKILLS, HARD SKILLS AND SOFT SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE INDUSTRY AND START THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

I HAVE SOME GUYS WHO HAVE FORMED A VERY STRONG COMPANY NOW AND THEY'RE DOING REAL ESTATE.

[00:45:02]

PICTURES AND VIDEOS FOR THESE PEOPLE, REALLY TO HAVE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE I CAN HELP STUDENTS LIVE THAT DREAM OUT IS IN MY MIND WORK.

>> HE'S MADE A VERY STRONG IMPACT IN HELPING ME REALIZE THAT THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO DO FOR MY LIFE.

THAT THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS VERY SUSTAINABLE IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE COMPUTERS ARE BECOMING MORE AND MORE PREVALENT AT THIS VERY SECOND.

>> RIGHT HERE, THESE METAL BRACKETS, YOU'LL TAKE THOSE CREWS OUT.

>> MR. STARNES IS THE CTE HISTORY, HE STARTED AT ONE LEVEL AS TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT AND HE MOVED FROM ONE LEVEL TO THE NEXT AND NOW HE IS THE TEACHER HE CONTINUOUSLY TO CLIMB AND STRIVES TO BE GREAT IN EACH AND EVERY MOMENT.

THAT'S CONTINUOUSLY TO WE CONVEY THE STUDENTS, TEACHES THE STORY HOW CHANCES LATELY.

I THINK THAT HELPS THE STUDENTS KNOW ON WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE IN THEIR UNIQUE WAY.

>> HAVING KIDS, SEE THAT THE MOUNTAIN THAT THEY HAVE TO CLIMB, WITH OUR TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATIONS, MAYBE NOT EASY.

THERE'S A LOT OF HARD WORK TO PUT INTO THAT AND EFFORT ARE A LOT OF TIMES IT SEEMS INSURMOUNTABLE, BUT HAVING THEM WORK ON THEIR MENTAL GYMNASTICS AND FORTITUDE, TO JUST BEING ABLE TO PUSH THROUGH AND STAY ON THAT GRIND.

THEN AT THE END OF THE ROAD, WHEN THEY HAD ACHIEVE SOMETHING WHERE THEY THOUGHT, THEY COULDN'T AND THEY HAVE THE BIGGEST SMILE ON THEIR FACE.

THAT'S THE BEST PART OF OUR JOB [MUSIC].

>> MR. STARNES COME AND GET IT.

[APPLAUSE].

>> MR. STARNES, I SEE SEVERAL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES BACK THERE.

TYPICALLY, HARVEY'S NOMINATIONS ARE SUBMITTED BY FELLOW COWORKERS.

THIS ONE ACTUALLY CAME FROM A PARENT, WHO'S STUDENT IS IN THE DRUNK CLUB WITH MR. STARNES BECAUSE SHE SEES, AND I GUESS IS RIGHT.

TO SPEAK VOLUMES SOMEBODY WAS IN CANVAS BUT THE IMPACT HE'S MAKING THE FAMILY.

IT'S JUST ARMS CONGRATULATIONS SIR.

>> THANK YOU [APPLAUSE]

>> I THANK THE BOARD FOR INVITING ME HERE, IT'S A GREAT HONOR TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR THE WORK THAT WE'VE BEEN PUTTING IN WITH THIS.

I'D LIKE TO THANK OUR ADMINISTRATION, DR. WORKFIELD, MRS. FREEMAN, AND THIS IS MORRIS, DR. DEBORE, THEY PROVIDE THE RESOURCES THAT I NEED TO OVERCOME ANY OBSTACLES TO MAKE THE VISION A REALITY.

I'D LIKE TO THANK OUR GREAT STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE COOPER GREEN, GIBSON, GOSSET, RIGHT RUBBER, AND JEFFREY PENNINGTON.

THEY JUST MAKE THE JOB SUCH A JOY WHERE I CAN SHARE MY VISION AND MY PASSION, MY EXPERIENCE, AND MY KNOWLEDGE WITH THEM.

IT'S JUST A WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE.

AGAIN, THANK YOU, GUYS, I'VE GOT A BRAND NEW FILE.

[APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND]

>> CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, MR. STORMS. I APPRECIATE WHAT HE SAID A FEW MINUTES AGO, MAKING THE VISION BECOME REALITY.

THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT THAT PROGRAM AND FOR ALL OF OUR CTE PROGRAMS, SO THANK YOU AGAIN.

AT THIS TIME, WE ARE GOING TO MOVE TO

[6.0 CISD Student School Board Trustee Program Pilot]

OUR CISD STUDENTS SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE PROGRAM PILOTS AND HEAR FROM OUR STUDENTS TRUSTEES, ALLISON O'HEREIN AND JAYDEN MAYFIELD.

THEY'RE GOING TO PRESENT THEIR INTRODUCTIONS AND THEN UPDATES FROM THEIR EXPERIENCES, SO THAT'S AGENDA ITEM 6.1.

SO I WILL TURN IT OVER TO THEM FOR THEIR INTRODUCTIONS.

TRUSTEE O'HEREIN, DO YOU WANT TO START?

>> YES MA'AM. GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND.

MY NAME IS ALLISON O'HEREIN.

I'M A SENIOR AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

NEXT YEAR I PLAN TO ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON AND STUDY BIOLOGY.

I GREATLY APPRECIATE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS STUDENT TRUSTEE.

THOUGH I WILL NOT BE A STUDENT HERE NEXT YEAR, I AM STILL GREATLY INVESTED IN MAKING THIS DISTRICT THE BEST IT CAN BE FOR FUTURE CISD STUDENTS.

I LOVED THE INITIATIVES I'VE BEEN ABLE TO BE A PART OF AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HOW THE DISTRICT GROWS FROM HERE.

>> WONDERFUL. THANK YOU. TRUSTEE MAYFIELD.

>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT,

[00:50:03]

MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND.

MY NAME IS JAYDEN MAYFIELD, I ATTEND TO NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND I AM A JUNIOR THERE.

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, I DO PLAN TO ATTEND COLLEGE, BUT I'M JUST NOT SURE WHERE I WANT TO GO YET.

I'M GRATEFUL TO BE HERE IN MY PLACE RIGHT NOW AND AS MY POSITION IS A TRUSTEE, I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH BECAUSE I CAN FINALLY BE IN TUNE WITH EVERYTHING SURROUNDING MY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HOW WE GROW TOGETHER AND HOW I CAN HELP WITH THAT, SO THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU BOTH.

THANK YOU AND AT THIS TIME, MR. KIRSCHNER, WOULD YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE THE FIRST SPEAKER.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND, OUR FIRST SPEAKER THIS EVENING IS GABRIELA ORTIZ. MS. ORTIZ.

>> EVENING. MY NAME IS GABRIELA ORTIZ, MY ADDRESS IS [INAUDIBLE] FORT WORTH.

I'D LIKE TO START BY SAYING THAT MY NAME IS GABRIELA ORTIZ AND MY SON IS A PARTICIPANT OF YOUR PROUDLY REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF.

THIS PROGRAM HAS MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE, NOT ONLY MY CHILD'S EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY, BUT IN HIS LIFE AS WELL.

MY SON IS THE FIRST DEAF, HARD OF HEARING STUDENT WHO ATTEND AND COMPLETE CROWLEY COLLEGIATE ACADEMY.

HE'S ALSO TAKEN PART IN THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY.

HE IS ALSO THE FIRST STUDENT FROM THIS DEAF EDUCATION PROGRAM TO RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP AND ACCEPTANCE TO GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY, WHICH IS THE FIRST COLLEGE FOR THE DEAF IN WASHINGTON DC.

[APPLAUSE] WHEN I WAS INFORMED OF MY SON HEARING LOSS, MY BIGGEST CONCERN WAS HOW I WOULD GUIDE HIM EDUCATIONALLY.

WE WERE BLESSED TO FIND THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE HERE AT CROWLEY HAVE IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN A MISSION OF CHANGING THE LIVES OF ALL OF WHO ARE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING KIDS.

I HAVE BEEN A WITNESS TO THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT THEY PUT IN ABOVE AND BEYOND OF WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THEM.

THEY HAVE BEEN MY SON'S ADVOCATE AS MUCH AS I HAVE BEEN HIS, AND I CAN'T IMAGINE HAVING TO GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS WITHOUT THEM.

DURING THIS TIME, I HAVE NOTICED THAT YOUR PROGRAM HAS MANY NEEDS THAT, IF ADDRESSED, WOULD BENEFIT THE FUTURE OF YOUR DEAF EDUCATION PROGRAM AS WELL AS CROWLEY ISD AS A WHOLE.

OUR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING STUDENTS ARE NOT ADEQUATELY PROTECTED IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.

VISUAL SAFETY ALERT SCREENS WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL OUR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING STUDENTS TO HELP THEM BE AWARE OF WHAT EVENT IS HAPPENING AND WHERE THEY SHOULD GO.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE ABILITY TO HEAR OR SEE A SIGNAL BE CONSIDERED NOT ONLY UNDER IDEAL CIRCUMSTANCES,

[00:55:02]

BUT UNDER ADVERSE SITUATIONS AS WELL.

THE CLASSROOMS NEEDS SHOULD HAVE SOUND FIELDS THAT ARE DEVELOPED TO REDUCE REVERBERATIONS AND VISUAL FEATURES IN ALL BUILDINGS THAT HOUSE THE REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF CLASSROOMS. OUR INTERPRETERS ARE ONE OF THE LOWEST PAID PROFESSIONALS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT THEY PUT INTO LEARNING NEW CURRICULUM AND VOCABULARY TO HELP OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO THE GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM, WOULD STAND AT THE LEVEL OF A CERTIFIED DEAF EDUCATION TEACHER.

OUR DEAF EDUCATION TEACHERS ARE SPECIFICALLY CERTIFIED TO TEACH OUR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING STUDENTS.

MANY OF THE STUDENTS COME TO CISD KNOWING VERY LITTLE LANGUAGE.

THESE TEACHERS ARE SKILLED IN USING BOTH ENGLISH AND AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE.

ASL IS A RECOGNIZED LANGUAGE IN THE UNITED STATES, HAVING ITS OWN GRAMMAR AND SYNTAX, IT REQUIRES THE SAME AMOUNT OF KNOWLEDGE AS YOUR BILINGUAL STAFF.

THEY TAKE GENERAL EDUCATIONS CURRICULUM AND ACCOMMODATED TO THE STIMULUS LANGUAGE LEVELS.

THEY WORK TIRELESSLY TO BUILD VISUAL VOCABULARY TO HELP THEM MAKE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SIGN LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH.

THEY TAKE PERSONAL TIME TO ATTEND CONFERENCES FOCUSING ON BILINGUAL GRAMMAR CURRICULUM TO FURTHER THIS DEPARTMENT.

THIS IS AN UNDERRATED DEPARTMENT.

THIS PROGRAM NEEDS RESOURCES.

CISD STAFF SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO LEARN ASL AND IT SHOULD BE OFFERED TO THEM.

CROWLEY THINKS THAT HAVING 63 LANGUAGES IN THE DISTRICT AND I WONDER IF AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE IS ONE OF THEM.

CROWLEY LENS TO BE IN A DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY.

BUT IT SEEMS THAT WE ARE LACKING OF GETTING THE SWAMP OF EDUCATORS WHO HAVE HELPED MY SON AND SO MANY OTHERS ACHIEVE THE GOALS OF COLLEGE AND LIFE BOTH. THANK YOU.

>> OUR NEXT SPEAKER THIS EVENING IS CHRISTINE MORRIS. MS. MORRIS.

>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR MARLIN.

MY NAME IS CHRISTINE MORRIS.

MANY OF YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT I WAS HERE AS THE HEARTBEAT AWARD WINNER IN NOVEMBER OF 2021.

I HAVE WORKED WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR 20 YEARS.

SINCE THEN, A LOT OF LESSONS HAVE OCCURRED IN MY LIFE.

EXCUSE ME, I'M VERY NERVOUS.

I WANTED TO SHARE SOME OF THOSE LESSONS WITH YOU.

MY JOURNEY STARTED IN 2021 WHEN I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER.

I HAD MY SURGERY IN FEBRUARY DURING THE ICE STORM AND STARTED CHEMOTHERAPY IN MARCH WHILE STILL WORKING FOR CROWLEY ISD.

AS I STARTED MY CHEMO JOURNEY, AT THE START OF MY 16 CHEMOTHERAPY REGIMEN, I REFLECTED ON MY LIFE AND WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE CHANGED.

THIS JOURNEY PUT THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE.

ONE THING THAT I REGRETTED WAS THAT I NEVER FINISHED COLLEGE.

I EXPRESSED TO MY FAMILY THAT WHEN I WAS DONE WITH MY CHEMOTHERAPY, I WANTED TO RETURN TO SCHOOL, SHORTLY AFTER CISD SENT AN EMAIL.

IN THIS EMAIL, I WAS GIVEN PARAPROFESSIONALS AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO RETURN TO COLLEGE.

I WAS INTRIGUED SINCE I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH DR. MCFARLAND YEARS PRIOR, THAT THEY NEEDED TO BEST IN PARAPROFESSIONALS.

I APPLIED AND I WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF THE TEXAS COVID LEARNING ACCELERATED SUPPORT GRANTS.

I STARTED MY CLASSES IN MARCH OF 2022 AT TEXAS A&M COMMERCE AND HAVE SINCE COMPLETED ALL MY COURSEWORK TO EARN MY BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN ONE YEAR.

I'M EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT I WILL BE GRADUATING ON MAY 13TH WITH TOP HONORS WITH 0.0.

I'M SO EXCITED.

I WANT TO FIRST THANK GOD FOR ALLOWING ME A SECOND CHANCE IN LIFE.

MY HUSBAND AND CHILDREN FOR THEIR LOVE AND FOR NOT GIVING UP ON OUR FAITH DURING THIS DIFFICULT JOURNEY IN OUR LIVES.

MY PR DAY FAMILY, ALL OTHER CONSTANT LOVE AND SUPPORT AND CISD FOR INVESTING THEIR TIME AND ALLOCATING THEIR RESOURCES TO GROW ME IN THEIR HOME.

AGAIN, I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AND I THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING THIS GRANT FOR OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS TO RETURN TO SCHOOL.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT LIFE HOLDS AFTER MARCH OR MAY, BUT I HOPE THAT I CAN CONTINUE MY CAREER HERE AT CISD.

THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

>> THANK YOU, MS. CHRISTINE.

AT THIS TIME WERE AT OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[9.0 Consent Agenda]

WE HAVE SEVERAL ITEMS.

[01:00:01]

WE HAVE 9.1, APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA, 9.2, THE APPROVAL OF THE MARCH 30TH, 2023 REGULAR BOARD MEETING MINUTES, AND THE APRIL 13TH, 2023 HOLD BOARD MEETING MINUTES, 9.3, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, 9.4, BUDGET AMENDMENT 9.5, ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT AWARDS, 9.6, EXTENDED LEARNING CALENDAR FOR JAR GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

9.7, THE REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF, SHARED SERVICE AGREEMENT MEMBERSHIP, 9.8, THE ANNUAL RENEWAL FOR THE EUREKA MATH CURRICULUM.

9.9, THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL AND TECHNOLOGY ALLOTMENT AND CERTIFICATION 2023, 2024.

9.10 CHANGE ORDER TO THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS, CONTRACT OR SCOPE OF THE WORK.

9.11, RENEWAL, EXPANSION OF THE AMPLIFY CONTRACT.

THE BOARD AT THIS TIME, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSION REGARDING THE CONSENT AGENDA?

>> I CONSENT THAT I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE CHANGE OF ORDER TO THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER'S CONTRACT.

WELL, THIS IS MY FIRST TIME HEARING ABOUT THIS.

I'M JUST CURIOUS AS TO THE NATURE OF THIS BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THEY'RE BASED ON WHAT I SEE IN THE CONSENT AGENDA.

WE ARE ADDING TO THE STRUCTURE MANAGER'S SCOPE OF WORK AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO 16.

BUT FOR BOTH OF MY HIGH SCHOOLS, WAS THAT YOUR QUESTION?

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. DR. MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, AND ALSO MR. DAVIS, THAT IS CORRECT.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE SOME CONSTRUCTION ITEMS THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, VAR EXPANDED IN GENERAL AND CC.

THEN WE ALSO HAVE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL TO RENOVATE THE CAFETERIA.

WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO IS TO TAKE THE SCOPE OF SERVICES THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE WITH THE ARCHITECT THERE, TO SIT WITH A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT LBG 16, AND JUST EXPAND THIS SCOPE.

THAT'S REALLY WHAT THIS IS.

>> THANK YOU, MCFARLAND.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? AT THIS TIME, BOARD, IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA?

>> RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS, IS THERE A SECOND?

>> I SECOND.

>> THANK YOU, STEVENSON.

THANK YOU. MOVE TO A VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY. THANK YOU.

THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO CONSIDERATIONS AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS,

[11.0 Future Action Item(s)]

SO WE WILL MOVE ON TO FUTURE ACTION ITEMS. AGENDA ITEM 11.1, WHICH IS THE STUDENT'S SAFETY PROTOCOLS.

DISCOVER OUR DRESS CODE, ID BADGES, INSURANCE PROTOCOLS, CTE TRANSPORTATION, OTHER SAFETY MITIGATION EFFORTS. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS ARE PLACES I WILL NEED AGENDA BECAUSE I WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING TOGETHER AN ESTIMATE SAFETY PROTOCOL COMMITTEE.

REALLY, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

I WANTED TO LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT WE ARE SOLICITING INTEREST FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THIS COMMITTEE, THIS COMMITTEE WILL BE MANY TEACHERS, PARENTS, STUDENTS, ALL STAKEHOLDERS REALLY TO HELP US EVALUATE THE DRIP, THE AREAS LISTED THERE, OUR DRESS CODE.

WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT WE NEED TO TIGHTEN UP OUR DRESS CODE.

WE WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT MAKES THE MOST SENSE.

NO STUDENTS MAY HAVE SOME COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT.

ALSO, ID BADGE IS ONE OF THE THINGS WE RECOGNIZE, THAT IT IS CRITICAL FOR US TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS WHO ARE ON OUR CAMPUS.

THERE SHOULDN'T BE THERE WITH OUR STUDENT'S GOING BACK AND FORTH DURING A DAY OF GOING BACK AND FORTH AS CTE CENTER AND IT IS JUST MOVING.

WE NOTICED A LOT OF MOVEMENT, AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE A VERY STANDARD WAY TO REALLY HELP THE STUDENTS.

IT REALLY MAKES SURE THAT WE ENFORCE OUR ID BADGES.

ALSO, THE THIRD ITEM THAT THIS COMMITTEE WILL ADDRESS WILL BE INTEREST PROTOCOLS.

WE KNOW THAT WITH THE SAFETY, THEIR HAND SIGNING THE REQUIREMENTS.

WE NEED TO HAVE A MORE RESTRICTED INTEREST OR PROTOCOLS THAT ARE IN OUR CAMPUSES.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT PARENTS, STUDENTS, YOU, THE BOARD MEMBERS ALSO COMMUNICATING AND HAVE SOME SAY IN HOW WE DO THAT.

CTE TRANSPORTATION.

CURRENTLY, WE DO ALLOW STUDENTS TO DRIVE TO CTE CENTER FROM THE TWO CAMPUSES,

[01:05:01]

AS WELL AS WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE AS WE LOOK AT THE 23, 24 SCHOOL YEAR, THAT WE'RE TAKING THE MAXIMUM SAFETY PRECAUTIONS NECESSARY.

WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS? THE OTHER SAFETY MITIGATION EFFORTS THAT THIS COMMITTEE COMES UP WITH, WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT THIS COMMITTEE WILL ACTUALLY SEE A MEETING WITHIN ABOUT A WEEK AND THERE WILL BE A SERIES OR PROBABLY ABOUT FOUR MEETINGS THAT WILL OCCUR FROM NOW UNTIL JUNE THE 30TH.

THE GOAL IS, BY JUNE 30TH, WE MAY REALLY CLEAR DECISIONS ABOUT DRESS CODES, ID BADGES, WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK DURING THE MONTH OF JULY TO WORK ON INTERESTS, PROTOCOLS, TRANSPORTATION, AND ANY OTHER EFFORTS.

THEN BY MID TO LATE JULY, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE ALL THESE THINGS ASIDE UPFRONT WITH THE COMMUNITY, EXCUSE ME, WITH A COMMUNITY, THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT AND WE'VE HEARD VOICES FROM ALL PLACES, SO WE CAN MAKE GOOD DECISIONS GOING INTO THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

SAFETY HERE, IS PROBABLY ONE FORCE AND WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE TO TIGHTEN UP ALL OF OUR SAFETY PROCEDURES.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HEAR PEOPLE'S VOICES BEFORE WE MAKE THOSE FINAL DECISIONS.

AGAIN, THIS IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION BOARD AND IF YOU DESIRE TO BE A PART OF THIS COMMITTEE, PLEASE LET THIS ARM ON TOP, ALL KNOW, AND WE WILL JUST BE REACHING OUT TO YOU NEXT WEEK.

>> THANK YOU. DR. MCFARLAND.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS?

>> I ACTUALLY HAVE A QUESTION. DR. MCFARLAND.

THANK YOU, NUMBER ONE, FOR DOING THIS.

SAFETY IS, AS YOU SAID, THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

BECAUSE IN ORDER FOR OUR STUDENTS TO LEARN, WE HAVE TO FIRST, FEEL LIKE THEY'RE SAFE.

I GUESS MY QUESTION IS WHAT OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES, I DON'T WANT TO SAY AUTOMATICALLY BE A PART OF THIS PROCESS, BUT PERSONALLY, I THINK THAT THIS IS DEFINITELY WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR STUDENT INPUT.

THIS IS PART OF WHAT WE INVEST IN THEM.

WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY, I WOULD JUST SUGGEST THAT OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES, OUR CURRENT TRUSTEES, AS WELL AS THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED DURING THE PREVIOUS TERMS, THAT THEY DEFINITELY BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS COMMITTEE IN ADDITION TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS.

>> THANK YOU, MR. DAVIS. WE WILL DEFINITELY DO THAT.

I THINK WE HAVE ABOUT 20 STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THAT STUDENT TRUSTEE PROGRAM.

I AGREE WITH YOU. THAT WOULD BE A GREAT RESOURCE.

>> TO ADD TO THAT, IF THE STUDENT TRUSTEES COULD SOMEHOW DO A SURVEY OR COMMUNICATE WITH THE OTHER STUDENTS ON THE CAMPUS TO GET THEIR IDEAS, AS WELL.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEES DAVIS AND DAVIS.

I ALWAYS LIKE SAYING THAT.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? ALL RIGHT.

THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM, SO WE WILL MOVE ON AT THIS TIME. WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 7.1,

[7.0 Report Item(s)]

THE TRANSFORMATION REPORT AND MIDDLE SCHOOL REDESIGN. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE SHARING THIS ITEMS TONIGHT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT THIS ITEM REPRESENTS WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER OUR LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE OF TODAY.

IT'S ACTUALLY REDESIGNING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE IN CROWLEY ISD.

I'D LIKE TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES AND JUST WALK YOU THROUGH OUR THOUGHTS AS IT RELATES TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AGAIN, THIS ITEM WILL ADDRESS BRADLEY'S STUDENTS, POWER OF STAFF, AND ALSO ENGAGE COMMUNITY WILL BE A PART OF THIS AS WELL.

IT REALLY HIT ALL THREE OVER FOUR.

THERE WERE TWO QUOTES REALLY THAT DRIVES OUR WORK AS IT RELATES TO REDESIGN OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THE FIRST QUOTE IS, YOU MAYBE HAVE HEARD IT FROM DEMINGS.

HE SAYS BASICALLY, "EVERY SYSTEM IS PERFECTLY DESIGNED TO GET THE RESULTS THAT IT GETS".

WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL, LIFT UP LOWER OR MIDDLE SCHOOL WHAT WE HAVE TO RECOGNIZE THAT WHAT WE HAVE TO ADMIT I HAVE TO ADMIT, IS THAT THE SYSTEM, THE RESULTS THAT WE'RE SEEING RIGHT NOW IN MIDDLE SCHOOLS ARE EXACTLY THE RESULTS THAT THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO GET.

IF WE WANT DIFFERENT RESULTS, WE HAVE TO REDESIGN OUR SYSTEM.

WE KNOW WE'RE LOOKING AT HOW CAN WE BE CREATIVE, HOW CAN WE BE INNOVATIVE, HOW CAN WE TAKE WHAT WE LEARNED AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND SKILLS THAT WORKS IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THAT'S REALLY THE MINDSET WITH WHICH WE STARTED THIS WORK. THE FIRST QUESTION IS WHY? WHY ARE WE ACTUALLY LOOKING AT REDESIGNING OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL, HERE'S THE DEAL.

MOST SYSTEMS, ESPECIALLY OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME LOOKING AT OUR RESULTS, EVALUATING THE RESULTS.

WE DON'T ALL THE TIME DECIDE AT THE VERY BEGINNING WHAT WE WANT THOSE RESULTS TO BE IN DESIGN BACKWARDS.

WITH OUR REDESIGN OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE ARE HAVING A CONVERSATION RIGHT NOW ABOUT

[01:10:02]

THE RESULTS WE WANT TO HAVE AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND WE'RE GOING TO START WITH THE RESULTS AND USE THE RESULTS TO ACTUALLY INFORM OUR SYSTEMS. WE'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS, AND WE ARE CONTINUING TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH FIFTH-GRADE STUDENTS, WE WILL BE ACTUALLY GOING INTO THESE MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

THE QUESTION IS FOR ME, IS REALLY WHAT MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE DO YOU WANT? WE KNOW IT'S IMPORTANT TO HEAR THEIR VOICE WE'LL BE USING A VOICE AND INVOLVING A VOICE AS WE GO THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS.

THE OTHER THING I WANT US TO REMEMBER IS THERE ARE TRANSITION FACTORS AT PLAY WHEN WE THINK ABOUT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AS IT YESTERDAY.

IF WE GO FOUR YEARS AGO, WE MADE THE DECISION TO CHANGE THE CONFIGURATION OF OUR CAMPUS.

OUR CAMPUS WAS ACTUALLY PRE-K 4,5,6,7,8, WHAT WE IDENTIFIED IS WHEN WE LOOKED AT OUR ENTIRE SYSTEM, WE IDENTIFY THAT AT EVERY TRANSITION, OUR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE WOULD TAKE A HIT JUST BECAUSE OF THE TRANSITIONAL FACTORS.

WE MADE A DECISION TO REDRAW A BOUNDARY LINE AND ACTUALLY MOVE FROM PRE-K4, TO ACTUALLY PRE-K5 AND WE MADE A DECISION TO ALSO MOVE SIX GRADES UP TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THIS OCCURRED ACTUALLY IN 2019-20.

WHAT WE RECOGNIZE NOW IS THAT ALTHOUGH WE CHANGE THE STRUCTURE, WE DIDN'T CHANGE THE SYSTEM.

WE DIDN'T CHANGE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM FOR THE TEACHERS.

WE DIDN'T CHANGE THE SUPPORT SYSTEMS FOR THE STUDENTS.

WE DIDN'T REALLY CHANGE THE INSTRUCTIONAL SPLITTER, FREQUENT SUPPORT AT THAT LEVEL AND SO THE REALITY IS WHEN WE SIT HERE TODAY AND WE LOOK AT OUR PERFORMANCE.

OUR PERFOMANCE IS A DIRECT INDICATION OF THE DECISION THAT WE MADE.

MY POINT IS THAT IF WE'RE GOING TO HAVE DIFFERENT RESULTS, WE HAVE TO MAKE DIFFERENT SYSTEM-LEVEL DECISIONS.

IT'S NOT A PROGRAM, IT'S NOT A CURRICULUM, IT'S NOT A SILVER BULLET.

THERE'S ALL OF THESE THINGS WORKING TOGETHER.

CONTEXT MATTERS AS WELL AND SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT CONTEXT, FOR ME, IT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING INSIDE OUR SCHOOLS, AND INSIDE OF OUR DISTRICT.

BUT IT'S ALSO WHAT'S HAPPENING OUTSIDE OF OUR DISTRICT.

WHAT WE KNOW IS WHEN WE ARE INTERFACING WITH NON-PROFITS AND PHILANTHROPY OF FOLKS THAT ARE ABLE TO HELP US TO REALLY SUSTAIN SOME OF THE INNOVATION.

WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT WHAT'S CONSIDERED FUNDING AGENDAS, AND RIGHT NOW THE FUNDING AGENDAS REALLY ALL AROUND MIDDLE SCHOOL REDESIGN AND SPECIFICALLY MATH AND SCIENCE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL REDESIGN AT THAT LEVEL.

CURRENTLY, OUR FUNDING IS AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL FOR LITERACY, BUT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL IS MATH AND SCIENCE.

THAT INFORMATION ALSO INFORMS OUR EFFORT.

THE ONLY THING WE LOOK AT IS SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, WE'RE EXCITED THAT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES ARE MEETING STATE STANDARDS.

BUT WHEN WE LOOK AT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES, WE KNOW THAT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS FOR US REPRESENT WHERE WE NEED TO START.

THEN THE LAST THING IS WHEN WE TALK ABOUT TRANSFORMING, WE HAVE ALWAYS TALKED ABOUT THIS IDEA OF MAKING SURE THAT WHATEVER WE DO WE CAN SUSTAIN.

IT'S ONE THING TO MAKE TO TURN A SCHOOL AROUND.

IN PERSON, THAT'S NOT WHAT WE DESIRE TO DO.

OUR DESIRE IS TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S SUCCESSFUL, EVEN LONG-TERM, AND NOT JUST ONE HERE.

AS WE APPROACH MIDDLE SCHOOL, REDESIGN, WE ARE CONSIDERING ALL THESE FACTORS.

WHEN WE THINK ABOUT LIKE, WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM TRANSFORMING OUR ELEMENTARY, WHAT WE'VE LEARNED IS REALLY SIMPLY BOUGHT DOWN AND THIS IS SUPPORTED BY ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF RESEARCH.

WHEN YOU GO BACK, YOU'LL FIND IS THAT THERE ARE ALL THESE DIFFERENT ADS AND WAYS OF IMPROVING, PEOPLE TELL YOU THAT'S GOING TO IMPROVE SCHOOLS AND ALL THAT BUT IT BARS DOWN TO REALLY FOUR WAYS.

IF WE'RE INCREASING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, WE'RE INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF TIME STUDENT HAS TO LEARN.

THIS A CLASS OF LEARNING AND IT APPLIES TO READ OR LEARNING HOW TO BALLROOM DANCING OR WHATEVER YOU'RE LEARNING.

SOMETIMES IT TAKES LONGER TO LEARN FOR DIFFERENT STUDENTS.

WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT IF WE CAN INCREASE INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, IF WE CAN INCREASE THE POINTS, WE FOUND THAT OUT WITH DAVID WALKER.

WE FOUND THAT WITH HARGRADE.

WE'RE LEARNING IT WITH METAL CREEK, WE'RE LEARNING IT ALSO WITH NEIL HARRIS AND SO WHAT WE WANT TO DO AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL IS MAKE SURE THAT WHATEVER WE DO WE INCREASE INSTRUCTIONAL TIME FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THE OTHER THING WE FOUND OUT THAT IF YOU HAVE BETTER RESOURCES AND MORE ALIGNED RESOURCES, RESOURCES THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH THE ASSESSMENT, THEN YOU ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE STUDENT LEARNING.

TEACHING CAPACITY IS PROBABLY THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE KNOW THAT IMPACTS STUDENT LEARNING IS THE CAPACITY OF THE TEACHER.

FOR US TO MAKE INNOVATIVE RULES AND ALL WITHOUT ADDRESSING FUTURE CAPACITY WOULD NOT BE A COMPLETE APPROACH.

WE KNOW ANYTHING THAT WE DO THIS, WILL HAVE LONG-TERM EFFECT, WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE WE'RE CLEAR ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

THEN THE LAST THING IS WE KNOW ALSO THERE ARE A LOT OF OUR CHILDREN AND A LOT OF CHILDREN WILL WORK BECAUSE WE HAVE A CONNECTION WITH YOU BECAUSE I LIKE YOU, THERE'S A RELATIONSHIP, WILL WORK FOR YOU IN THIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CURRICULUM OR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TEACHERS.

BUT THERE'S SOME OTHER THING THAT MAKES ME WORK IN ADDITION TO I SHOULD DO THIS.

PUT THESE PILLOWS HERE BECAUSE EVERYTHING THAT WE DO IN THE DISTRICT, REGARDLESS OF WHAT WE DECIDED TO DO, WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING AT,

[01:15:01]

IS IT CONNECTED TO ONE OF THESE FOUR AREAS.

IF IT'S CONNECTED TO ONE OF THOSE FOUR AREAS, THEN WE KNOW IT GIVES US A CHANCE OF THIS TASK.

WHEN WE THINK ABOUT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND WE THINK ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO APPROACH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL REDESIGNING, THE FIRST THING IS, AND I JUST ENCOURAGE YOU, WE BRING YOU IN ITEMS THIS IS I ACTUALLY TO IMPROVE LEARNING.

I ENCOURAGE YOU TO ASK US WHICH ONE OF THESE FOUR IS IT CONNECTED TO.

BECAUSE IT IS NOT CONNECTED TO THOSE FOUR IN MAYBE JUST A FAD.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IT'S NOT THAT.

WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE ULTIMATE OBJECTIVE.

IF YOU ALL KNOW THAT OUR DESIRE IS TO HAVE ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS A OR B. CROWLEY WAS A GOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT WHEN I ARRIVED HERE.

IT'S BEEN A GOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT.

BUT OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS IN CROWLEY ISD AS A OR B SCHOOLS.

WE CAN SAY TODAY THAT ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ARE A'S ARE B'S.

ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS ARE A'S AND B'S.

THE AREA WE HAVE THE CHALLENGE NOW IS IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND I BELIEVE THAT WE CAN GET TO WHAT WE NEED TO BE.

JUST TO REMIND YOU, I WANT TO TAKE YOU BACK.

IF YOU WERE TO LOOK AT OUR MAP AND I'LL GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO ADJUST YOUR EYES.

BUT THIS MAP INDICATES THE SCHOOLS THAT WE HAD IN OUR DISTRICT DURING THE YEAR 2019.

IF YOU SEE ANY COLOR OTHER THAN BLUE, OR GREEN THEN THAT MEANS THAT SCHOOL WAS NOT A, B OR A SCHOOL.

WHAT YOU SEE IS 2019.

IF YOU SEE RED, THOSE SCHOOLS WERE REALLY IN NEED.

THAT'S WHAT THE MAP LOOKED LIKE IN 2019.

THIS NEXT SLIDE IS SHOWING YOU WHAT THE MAP LOOKS LIKE TODAY.

WHAT YOU SEE TODAY IS YOU SEE THE GREEN, YOU SEE THE BLUE, AND YOU SEE A FEW YELLOWS.

OUR GOAL IS TO LOOK AT THIS MAP, YOU SEE NOTHING BUT GREEN OR BLUE.

THE DARK BLUE IS ACTUALLY THE A'S AND THE TOP CAMPUSES.

ANYWAY, WE ARE LOOKING AT HOW CAN WE ADDRESS BOTH THE YELLOW SCHOOLS THAT ARE CS THAT ARE REALLY RIGHT THERE ON THE BORDER AND HOW CAN WE GET THEM MOVING ON.

THAT IS OUR CHALLENGE TO REDESIGN THIS MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE.

AS WE TALK ABOUT THIS, I WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE CLEAR.

THIS FOR US IS REALLY WHAT I WOULD CALL ACTION RESEARCH, THIS IS NOT OVERNIGHT, I JUST DON'T BELIEVE IN OVERNIGHT TURNAROUNDS.

WE STARTED IN 2023 AND OUR GOAL IS TO GET TO 2028.

WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO MAP THAT OUT.

BUT AGAIN, OUR GOAL IS TO REDESIGN THE EXPERIENCE, THE TAS HAS WHAT'S CALLED A SLOW-GROWTH MODEL.

NOW LET ME JUST BE CLEAR.

TA IS NOT SUPPORTED AND NOT FUNDING THIS AT THIS POINT.

BUT I BELIEVE THEY WILL ONCE WE SHOW THEM THE RESULTS, SO THEY DON'T FIND ACTUALLY AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL.

WHICH IS WHY WE HAVE TO BE AWARE OF WHAT THE EXTERNAL FUNDERS, THE PHILANTHROPY IS LIKE.

WE ACTUALLY SENT OUT [INAUDIBLE] AND MANY OF THE OTHERS HAVE WORK WITH OUR TRANSFORMATION.

WE WERE ABLE TO SEND OUT A GRANT TODAY TO FOUR DIFFERENT OF OUR LOCAL FUNDERS.

OR REALLY TRYING TO HELP US ADDRESS OUR MIDDLE-SCHOOL WHERE WE'RE USING TA LANGUAGE, WHICH IS SLOW GROWTH MODEL.

SLOW GROWTH MODEL MEANS YOU IDENTIFY WHAT YOU CAN DO AND WHAT YOU CAN MEASURE AND YOU GROW IT.

SOME PEOPLE WILL SAY WE NEED TO TAKE THE WHOLE MIDDLE-SCHOOL 6, 7 AND 8 TO TRY TO FIX ALL OF IT AT ONCE.

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT'S THE APPROPRIATE WAY, SO WE DECIDE TO DO IS WE WILL FOCUS ON SIXTH GRADE.

THEY'RE REALLY REDEFINED THE SIXTH GRADE EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND PARTICULARLY REDEFINING THE MATH AND ELA, FOCUS ON MATH AND ELA AT THE SIXTH-GRADE LEVEL.

WHAT WE WILL BE DOING IS REALLY ENGAGE IN STRATEGIC STAFFING AND STRATEGIC COMPENSATION.

YOU ALL REMEMBER AT HEART GRADES, WE STARTED WITH AS AND WE DID STRATEGIC STAFFING.

WE ACTUALLY RECONSTITUTE THE CABINETS.

WE HIRED, SELECTED FOLKS, AND WANTED TO BE ON THAT CAMPUS.

THEY AGREED TO ADDITIONAL TIME, THEY AGREED TO ADDITIONAL DAYS AND ALL THAT.

WE'RE TAKING A VARIATION WHAT WE DID HIGHBURY AND A VARIATION OF WHAT WE DID WITH HIGHBURY WAS WE EXTENDED THE DATE.

WHAT WE DID WITH WALKING IS WE EXTENDED THE YEAR.

WHAT WE LEARN IS EXTENDED IN A DAY.

THIS MAKES ALL A LONG YEAR OR TEACHERS AT HIGHBURY.

IT WOULD TEACH HIM A BURNOUT BECAUSE WE USE [INAUDIBLE].

WHAT WE FOUND AT WALKER IS ACTUALLY DOING THE YEAR IS ACTUALLY MUCH MORE DIGESTIBLE IF WE CAN MANAGE THE SCHEDULE.

WE ARE LOOKING AT DOING A COMBINATION.

WE ARE LOOKING AT STARTING WITH MATH AND WE'RE LOOKING AT INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS BY 12. A MAXIMUM OF 12 DAYS.

WHAT THAT MEANS IS WE'RE GOING TO INCREASE THE TIME THAT STUDENTS HAVE ABOUT 12 DAYS.

YOU MAY SAY, WELL, 12 DAYS DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A LOT, BUT ACTUALLY DURING THE YEAR FOR MATH STUDENTS GET ABOUT 60 MINUTES PER DAY.

WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO IS DURING THOSE ADDITIONAL 12 DAYS, STUDENTS WILL GET 120 MINUTES.

TWELVE ADDITIONAL DAYS IS REALLY 24 DAYS OF INSTRUCTION FOR OUR STUDENTS.

[01:20:04]

IN ADDITION WITH HAVING A CONVERSATION WITH ELA TEACHERS AND WE IDENTIFY ENOUGH ELA TEACHERS THAT ARE WILLING TO DO THIS, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO MOVE WITH ELA AS WELL.

THE GOAL IS TO STRATEGICALLY SELECT THE TEACHER'S, SIXTH-GRADE TEACHERS, 12 TEACHERS THREE ON CAMPUS, AND STRATEGICALLY SELECT ELA TEACHERS AND WE'LL INCREASE THE INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS BY 12 AND WE'LL INCREASE IN A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS BY SIX.

NOW, WHAT WE'LL DO IS WE HAVE SEVERAL MODELS THAT THE PRINCIPLES ARE COMING UP WITH RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS THROUGHOUT THE CONTRACT.

THE CONTRACT WILL START JULY 1ST AND END IN JUNE.

THERE WE HAVE TO HAVE 12 DAYS DURING THE SUMMER.

IT COULD BE THREE DAYS OR COULD EITHER BE THE SUMMER.

YOU HAVE 3-4 DAYS OF THE SUMMER FOR INSTRUCTION.

THEN THOSE OTHER DAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

AGAIN, WE'RE ALLOWING THE PRINCIPALS TO WORK WITH THEIR TEAMS ARE REALLY COMING UP WITH THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE ALL WE KNOW IS THAT WE CAN INCREASE THAT INSTRUCTIONAL TIME.

WE CAN INCREASE THE TIME FOR PE, AND WE CAN COMPENSATE OUR STAFF AND ON DOING THAT, WE MAY FEEL LIKE WE CAN GET WHAT WE NEED TO BE OVERTIME.

THAT'S YEAR 1.

THAT'S FOR 2023/2024.

DURING THE SAME YEAR, THE SEVENTH GRADE WILL REMAIN TRADITIONALIZED AS IT IS NOW.

THE EIGHTH GRADE WILL REMAIN TRADITIONALIZED AS IT IS NOW.

WE ARE ALSO LOOKING ADDING INSTRUCTION SUPPORT AT THE SIXTH GRADE WE'RE CALLING IT SIXTH-GRADE MASTER TEACHER.

THAT MEANS THE SIXTH-GRADE TEACHERS WILL HAVE A PERSON ON THAT CAMPUS WHO WORK DIRECTLY WITH THE SIXTH GRADE TEACHERS THAT HAD ALL THIS TRAINING AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR OUR STUDENTS.

IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE WILL ALSO HAVE A POSITION THAT WE'LL CALL OUR SIXTH GRADE INNOVATION PRESENT AND SO THAT WILL BE A PERSON THAT WE ARE GROWING TO BE A PRINCIPAL AT THE MIDDLE LEVEL.

AGAIN, WE'LL STILL HAVE A MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL THIS WILL BE A PERSON WHO WILL BE GROOMING TO THE COME A PRINCIPAL AND REALLY HAVE STRONG INSTRUCTIONAL OR NOT.

THEY ALSO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRANSITIONAL ISSUE THAT THE SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS HAVE SO REALLY THAT'LL BE A PERSONNEL DIVA TO HELP THERE.

ALL THESE POSITIONS WILL BE STIPEND BASED ON OUR COMPENSATION MODEL AND SO WE BELIEVE THAT'S GOING TO HELP US, REALLY GET WHAT WE NEED AT THE SIXTH GRADE LEVEL.

IN ADDITION, WITH THE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE WILL WORKING WITH BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB AND ONE OTHER ORGANIZATION BECAUSE WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS BE ABLE TO BRING MILLION, TO ALSO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL AFTER SCHOOL OR TIME FOR STUDENTS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

CURRENTLY, WE DON'T HAVE, WE HAVE 21ST-CENTURY AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, WE DON'T HAVE THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT WE HAVE STUDENTS AT FOURTH GRADE, STUDENTS FEAR STUDENTS IN HARD RACE, STUDENTS IN WALKER.

SUICIDE METAL CREEK, STUDENTS IN MARY HARRIS, AND OTHERS THAT ARE READY GOING SOME EXTRA, THOSE GOOD GRADERS.

THIS WILL BE NO CHANGE FOR THOSE THINGS, BUT WE THINK IT'LL JUST MAKE SENSE FOR PARENTS BUT WE'LL BE DOING IS REALLY HAVING ABSOLUTE CARE AT THOSE CAMPUSES.

HOPEFULLY, THAT WILL ALLEVIATE SOME OF THE BURDEN NOW.

AGAIN, AT THE SEVENTH GRADE AND EIGHTH GRADE, IT WILL BE TRADITIONAL SCHEDULE, AND THAT'S 23-24 IS HOW SLOW GROWING COMES NEXT YEAR, 24-25.

ANY OF THE ELA TEACHERS, SIXTH GRADE TEACHERS, OR USED TO TEACH COMPENSATION WILL BEGIN WITH THOSE, ALSO WITH THE SEVENTH GRADE, WILL ACTUALLY STRATEGICALLY STAFF ELA IN MATH.

THE REASON WHY WITH THE SET WITH THE 24-25 WE ARE DOING ELA IN MATH IS THAT WE HAVE TIME TO TAILOR THE COMMUNICATED IN THE FALL AND REALLY GET OUR PLAN GO, BECAUSE OF ONE IN A YEAR, WE FELT LIKE WE'LL DO MATH AND ELA THAT WE GAVE AND WE CAN WE'LL GO FALL.

THE 24-25 YOU'LL HAVE EXTENDED TIME FOR SIXTH GRADERS.

IT'S BEEN THE TIME FOR SEVENTH GRADE.

IMAGINE THESE SEVENTH GRADERS ARE RIGHT NOW OUR FIFTH GRADERS ACROSS OUR DISTRICT.

WE'RE ALREADY USED TO THIS A LOT.

THEY WILL JUST USE IT ONCE THOSE EXTRA MINUTES.

AGAIN, EIGHTH GRADE WILL RANGE TRADITIONAL.

THEN THE NEXT YEAR, 25-26, WE WILL ACTUALLY HAVE ALL OUR CAMPUSES IN EVERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, IN EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE WOULD HAVE EXTENDED LEARNING TIME, EXTENDED PDE, AND REALLY JUST ONGOING HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS IN THE AREAS OF MATH AND ELA WILL EVENTUALLY GO TO SOCIAL STUDIES.

WHAT WE KNOW IS IF WE GET MORE TIME, WE CAN GIVE KIDS WHAT WE NEED TO BE IN MORE TIMES, BUT TEACHERS WITH PDE, WE KNOW THAT IT HELP IMPROVE OUR PLANS AS WELL.

THAT'S REALLY THE SMALL GROW WORLD.

YOU NOTICE IT'S FAST WAY FINE.

AS FAR AS WITH THIS PLAN, YOU SEE THE LASHES 25-26 BECAUSE THE NEXT YEAR 26-27 WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN 27-28 AS WELL.

JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF HOW WE WILL BE APPROACHING AND HOW WE WILL BE LEADING FROM THE CENTRAL LEVEL.

THIS YEAR YOU DON'T WANT IT, IS JUST THE DESIGN IN THE PILOT.

[01:25:02]

THIS YEAR IT'S BEEN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US DESIGNING IT AND LEARN.

WE ARE AGAIN FINDING FORWARD AS WE'RE DESIGNING AND WILL ALSO BE LEARNING.

YEAR 2 WILL BE IMPLEMENTING THE PLAN THAT WE HAVE DESIRED AND WE WILL ACTUALLY BE MONITORING IT AND ALSO MEASURING INTERIM RESULTS.

WILL HAVE OUR TARGETS ALL YEARS.

YOUTUBE BEYOND THAT, WE'LL BE MEASURING THOSE.

YOU AGREE WAS WILLING TO CONTINUE TO IMPLEMENT AND MEASURE IT BY YEAR 3, SIXTH AND SEVENTH GRADE, AND THEN YEAR 4 WILL BE IMPLEMENTING MONITOR MEASURES AND THEY WILL BE EVALUATING THE RESULTS AT THREE-YEAR TRAINING, AND AFTER THAT, IT'S ABOUT HOW DO WE SCALE, SO THE NEXT DUE TO OTHER FORCES AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HOW DO WE SCALE THROUGH THE NIGHT RACE THERE.

BUT A UNION, THIS IS WHAT WE CALL A SLOW GROWTH.

WE ARE ACTUALLY APPROACHING FUNDERS ARE ABOUT 2.9 MILLION THAT WE KNOW THAT WILL SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT.

WE'VE BEEN COUNTED ASSURED THAT WE WILL GET SOMETHING AND YOU'LL LEAD.

OUR GOAL IS TO REALLY MAKE SURE WE MAKE A COMPELLING CASE THAT WE'VE TRIED TO REALLY DO SOMETHING A UNIQUE HEARING PROBLEM.

ALL RIGHT, AND SO JUST THE KEY COMPONENTS JUST TO WRAP UP AGAIN AND I'LL JUST JUMP IN.

YOU SEE THE INDUSTRY PARTNERS AND HIRING PARTNERS THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE'LL BE WORKING ON.

PARTNERSHIPS WILL BUT SIX DAYS OF PD, DAYS OF INSTRUCTION.

WE THINK THOSE ARE THE MAIN COMPONENTS THAT'LL HELP US GET TO WHERE WE NEED TO BE.

WE ALSO WILL BE LOOKING AT AVID IN TARRANT COUNTY THROUGH ALL THE THINGS THAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING AND REALLY TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN DEAL WITH THOSE AS JUST A NATURAL PART OF WHAT WE DO AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL.

TOP OF THE STACK AND ALLOCATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS, WE CAN GO FORWARD WITH THAT. VERY MINIMAL IMPACT ON MASSIVE SCALE.

THE IMPACT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE SUMMER OR AT THOSE DAYS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THE THING THAT'S A FINANCIAL IMPACT STIPENDS FOR THE ADDITIONAL DATES, THE ADDITIONAL STIPENDS FOR TEACHERS IS RIGHT THERE, A $5,000 STIPEND, WHICH IS A STIPEND THAT WE USE FOR OUR AC AT OUR ACE PROGRAM.

IT'S HALF THAT STIPEND BECAUSE WE HAVE THE NUMBER OF DAYS.

THERE'S A MASSIVE TEACHER STIPEND AS WELL AS SIXTH-GRADE INNOVATION PRINCIPLE STIPEND, AND THEN WE'LL HAVE ENRICHMENT CLUBS, THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB AND OTHERS THAT WILL HELP US TO OFFSET THAT AS WELL.

YEAR 1 METRICS JUST SO YOU KNOW, HOW WE KNOW SUCCESS.

FIRST THING IS WE'LL BE LOOKING AT OUR MATH PERFORMANCE ON STARR.

WHEN WE LOOK AT PERFORMANCE RIGHT NOW, IT IS DEFINITELY THE AREA OF OPPORTUNITY FOR US AND SO WE WILL BE ABLE TO MEASURE THAT.

WE'LL ALSO BE LOOKING AT MATH, WHICH IS OUR ASSESSMENT DATA, WHICH REALLY MEASURES HOW KIDS ARE PERFORMING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, MIDDLE OF THE YEAR, END OF THE YEAR.

BUT ALSO WE'VE GOT SIXTH-GRADE DISCIPLINE DATA.

THERE'LL BE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR US TO WORK WITH KCL, THE SIXTH-GRADE STUDENTS AND THEN ANY OTHER LOCAL ASSESSMENTS, WE WE'LL REVEAL THE REPORTS TO YOU THIS TIME NEXT YEAR ABOUT HOW WE ARE DOING.

AGAIN, THIS IS THE IDEA OF THE PLAN.

AGAIN, WE'RE PITCHING THIS IDEA WITH SEVERAL FUNDERS.

OFTEN WE'LL KNOW WITHIN ABOUT PROBABLY ABOUT TWO WEEKS AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO REALLY COME BACK TO YOU WITH MORE DEFINITIVE ANSWERS.

BUT WE FEEL LIKE THIS WILL AT LEAST GIVE US A STARR TO REDESIGN THE SIXTH-GRADE EXPERIENCE, WHICH WILL THEN ALLOW US TO REDESIGN THE MIDDLE-SCHOOL EXPERIENCE.

I'LL STOP THERE. I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A HIGH-LEVEL OVERVIEW AND SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

>> [INAUDIBLE] AND I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

FOR SIXTH GRADE, HOW MANY TEACHERS ARE WE TALKING AND IS THIS THE ALL FOUR OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES? WHAT IS THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF TEACHERS ARE WE TALKING FOR EXTENDED PERIOD?

>> WELL, IT REALLY WOULD DEPEND ON OUR NUMBERS.

RIGHT NOW WE HAVE ABOUT 12 MATH TEACHERS.

>> OKAY.

>> WE HAVE PROBABLY ABOUT THE SAME NUMBER OF ELA TEACHERS.

IT'LL REALLY FOR WHATEVER LEVEL WE WERE BUDGETING FOR WOULD ACTUALLY BE OF 24 TEACHERS, SO 12 MATH, 12 ELA.

>> MY NEXT QUESTION WAS INNOVATIVE PRINCIPAL POSITION.

IS IT ON EACH CAMPUS OR JUST ONE, ISN'T IT FOR ALL FOR YOU?

>> ONE ON EACH CAMPUS.

>> I HAVE A FOLLOW-UP QUESTION TO THAT.

I WAS GOING TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL, THAT YOU MENTIONED ALSO THE SIXTH-GRADE MASTER TEACHER.

WILL THERE BE ONE LATER, THIS IS THE MASTER TEACHER 1 FOR A SCHOOL? CAN YOU ELABORATE ON THAT ABOUT THE MASTER TEACHER?

>> SURE. WE'LL START OFF WITH ONE PER CAMPUS.

WHAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW IS WE HAVE ISAS, INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES AS WELL,

[01:30:05]

BUT THEY SERVE 6, 7, AND 8.

WE'LL HAVE ONE PERSON FOCUSED ON SIXTH GRADE AND THEN THE ISS'S WILL THEN SERVE THE SEVENTH AND THE EIGHTH GRADE.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THIS.

FIRST OF ALL, I THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA.

I'M VERY GLAD YOU SAID OR YOU'RE CALLING IT THE SLOW GROW BECAUSE WE DIDN'T GET HERE OVERNIGHT AND IT'S NOT GOING TO BE TURNED AROUND OVERNIGHT.

NOW THAT WE HAVE THIS PROCESS IN MIND WITH THAT UNDERSTANDING IS GREAT.

WITH THE 12 DAYS THAT YOU TALKED ABOUT, WILL THOSE 12 DAYS ONLY CONSIST OF ELA AND MATH INSTRUCTION OR WILL THEY BE REGULAR SCHOOL DAYS FOR THOSE STUDENTS?

>> GREAT QUESTION. THOSE 12 DAYS WILL NOT BE REGULAR SCHOOL DAYS FOR THE STUDENTS.

WHAT WE'RE ANTICIPATING, AND THIS IS IN THE DESIGN SPACE.

WHAT WE'RE ANTICIPATING IS WE'LL HAVE ELA INSTRUCTION, WE'LL HAVE MATH INSTRUCTION, AND THEN WE WILL HAVE SOME OTHER KIND OF EITHER ENGAGING OF A PROBLEM-BASED, A PROCESS-BASED LEARNING ACTIVITY WITH A THEME OR WHATEVER.

THAT'S WHERE THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB IN OTHER OTHER INITIATIVES COME INTO PLAY.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THE QUESTION IS THE 12 DAYS PLAN TO BASICALLY EXERCISE PLAN.

IS IT A FULL SCHOOL DAY OR IS IT HAPPENING LIKE A SIXTH-GRADE CAMP, LIKE AN INTRODUCTION?

>> YEAH. GREAT QUESTION.

TO ME I THINK THIS IS A SELLING POINT FOR OUR TEACHERS, I BELIEVE, BUT BECAUSE IT IS NOT A FULL DAY, FOR TEACHERS, IT'S A 120 MINUTES.

IF I'M A MATH TEACHER, A 120 MINUTES FOR THE MATH TEACHER, A 120 MINUTES FOR THE ELA TEACHER.

IT'S REALLY A HALF-DAY IS WHAT IT IS.

BUT BECAUSE OF HOW WE'RE DOING THE MINUTES, WE'RE GETTING TWO FULL SCHOOL DAYS FOR STUDENTS. THAT'S RIGHT.

>> THEY'LL HAVE A ROTATION.

THE OTHER THING I WAS GOING TO SAY, I WAS A FORMER MIDDLE-SCHOOL MATH TEACHER, SIXTH-GRADE MATH, FIVE YEARS, EIGHTH-GRADE AROUND THREE YEARS, I WORKED ON TWO TURNAROUND CAMPUSES, SO I KNOW THAT INSTRUCTIONAL TIME IS BENEFICIAL TO STUDENTS.

I'VE SEEN IT WORKING ON CAMPUSES, THEY HAD DOUBLE-DIGIT GAMES.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I'VE WORKED AND I KNOW THAT IT CAN WORK.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> LET ME CALL ON ONE QUESTION.

FOR TEACHERS WILL YOU RECRUIT, A VOLUNTEER OR HOW DO YOU TRAIN THESE TEACHERS?

>> GREAT QUESTION. BECAUSE OF WHERE WE ARE IN THE YEAR, WHAT PRINCIPALS WILL BE DOING WILL BE HAVING CONVERSATIONS ON THEIR CAMPUSES WITH THE CURRENT MATH TEACHERS THAT ARE IN SIXTH GRADE.

IF THEY INDIRECTLY, FROM LEGITIMATE REASONS WHY A TEACHER COULD NOT PARTICIPATE THIS SUMMER AND SO WHAT? THEY HAVE CONTRACTS AT THIS POINT, THERE ARE NO PERFORMANCE ISSUES AND SO IT BASICALLY WOULD BE A MATTER OF US IDENTIFYING WHO CAN DO IT ON OUR CAMPUS.

IF WE NEED TO RECRUIT FROM OTHER CAMPUSES OR EVEN OUTSIDE OF THE DISTRICT, WE COULD DO THAT AS WELL. IT'LL BE A COMBINATION.

NOW, WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE YEAR 2, WHICH WILL START THIS FALL, WE START REALLY PLANNING, WE WILL GO AND RECRUIT THE PEOPLE THAT WE WANT FOR THOSE SPOTS.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS.

NUMBER 1, DR. MCFARLAND, I WANT TO SAY TO YOU, THANK YOU.

YOU AND I HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND MY DESIRE THAT WE BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT [NOISE] ADDRESSING OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND THE NEED FOR US TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE.

SO THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME AND REALLY MAPPING THIS PLAN OUT.

I KNOW THAT WE ARE INTRODUCING THIS ON THE SIXTH-GRADE LEVEL, WHEREAS THE SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADES ARE GOING TO REMAIN TRADITIONAL.

MY QUESTION I GUESS ULTIMATELY IS DOES THAT CONTINUE US ON THIS TRAJECTORY WHERE THERE WILL BE LAGGING RESULTS ON INTO OUR HIGH SCHOOLS? OR WITH US NOT DOING ANY PREDESIGN WITH OUR SEVENTH AND EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS,

[01:35:01]

HOW ARE WE ENSURING THAT THEY ALSO WILL BE ABLE TO HEIGHTEN THEIR PERFORMANCE? BECAUSE I LOVE WHAT WE'RE DOING WITH THE SIXTH GRADE AND I UNDERSTAND THE SLOPE ROLE MODEL.

I GUESS MY ONLY CONCERN IS IN LOOKING AT OUR RESULTS, WILL THESE RESULTS THAT WE'RE SEEING WITH OUR SEVENTH AND EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT GETTING THIS ENHANCED LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION, WILL THERE BE LINGERING PERFORMANCE ISSUES?

>> THAT'S DEFINITELY A GREAT QUESTION AND SO THAT'S ONE THING WE CAN CONSIDER AS WE LOOK INTO HOW WILL WE DO THIS AND HOW MUCH DO WE DO AND HOW SOON.

THE REALITY IS, LET'S GO BACK TO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE.

REALLY EARLY IT WAS AT 79 AND SO THEY WERE NOT FAR OFF.

AND SO WHEN WE BEGIN TO LOOK AT IT REALLY, WE FEEL LIKE JUST WITH SOME ATTENTION TO THE SIXTH GRADE AND INVESTMENT, THEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOU HAVE TWO INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE CERTAINLY THREE GRADES, SO IF THEY CAN FOCUS AT SEVENTH AND EIGHTH AND WE CAN GET FOCUS HERE AT THE SIXTH GRADE.

WE FEEL THAT'LL HELP US GET OVER THE HUMP.

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT HF, THEY WERE 74, SO THEY WERE NOT FAR AWAY.

A GOOD THING IS THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ARE IN MUCH BETTER SHAPE THAN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WERE WHEN WE STARTED. THAT'S THE GOOD THING.

WE'RE SAYING THEY'RE NOT BUT I BELIEVE WOULD REALLY SOME INTENTION AND THE GOOD THING IS, WE'RE NOT USING MAGIC OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

THERE'S NOTHING THAT PRECLUDES US FROM INCREASING INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS OR INCREASING WHAT'S HAPPENING IN SCHOOL, WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE SEVENTH-GRADE CAMP, WHAT'S HAPPENING IN 8TH GRADE.

IF THERE'S NOTHING THAT KEEPS US FROM DOING THAT.

THE GRANT IS JUST GOING TO ALLOW US THE FUNDING AT THE SIXTH GRADE, AND SO OUR CULTURE IS NOT GOING TO BE TO TAKE OUR EYE OFF SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE, IS JUST GOING TO BE TO GET MORE INVESTMENTS INTO THE SIXTH GRADE.

>> AND THEN THE LAST QUESTION ON THE SIXTH-GRADE INNOVATIVE PRINCIPLE?

>> YES.

>> SO WE'RE SAYING THERE'S A STIPEND FOR THAT, SO IS THIS A TEACHER THAT HAS ASPIRATION OF BECOMING A PRINCIPAL? IS THIS A DEFINITIVE PRINCIPLE POSITION? I'M STILL TRYING TO WRAP MY MIND AROUND EXACTLY WHAT THAT POSITION IS.

IS A HYBRID OR?

>> SO WE CURRENTLY HAVE FOUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS BASED ON OUR STAFFING GUIDELINES AND ALL THAT.

SO WHAT WE'LL DO IS TAKE ONE OF THOSE FOUR AND THEY WILL TAKE THAT ROLE, ASSUME THAT ROLE.

SO THEY WILL MAKE SURE THAT THAT PERSON HAS THE SUPPORT AND HAS ALL THE THINGS THEY NEED TO DO TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THE ISSUES AT THE SIXTH GRADE.

>> I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION.

HAVE WE NOTICED A BIG CONCERN FOR OUR SIXTH GRADERS MAKING THAT TRANSITION FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE SCHOOL IN TERMS OF ACHIEVEMENT?

>> SO IT'S JUST HARD TO KNOW WHAT IS THE ACTUAL CAUSE BECAUSE WE MADE A LOT OF CHANGES OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE NOW SIXTH GRADERS, AND THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH A LOT.

I THINK MORE SO IS THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE CURRICULUM THAT THE STUDENTS FACE AT THE SIXTH-GRADE LEVEL IS ALMOST 67-70% NEW MATERIAL, THEY'RE MOVING TO THE SIXTH GRADE.

IN THE FIFTH GRADE IS MORE OF JUST THAT.

BUT WE GO TO THE SIXTH GREAT NEW STREAMS ARE INTRODUCED.

WE TOOK TEACHERS THAT HAD BEEN TEACHING ON THE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL AND MOVED TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE DIDN'T DO ANY TRANSITIONS FOR SPD AND SEL, SO IT WAS JUST A LOT OF FACTORS.

WE FEEL THERE ARE A LOT OF FACTORS THAT TELLS US AT SIXTH GRADE IS WHERE WE NEED TO START.

EVEN IF NONE OF THOSE WERE IN PLACE WE WOULD LOOK AT OUR PERFORMANCE IN MATH.

WE COMPARE ON MATH PERFORMANCE OF OUR SIXTH-GRADE STUDENTS TO THE REGION AND THE STATE, WE'RE LAGGING SIGNIFICANTLY.

THAT'S EVEN WITH THE IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC.

THE PANDEMIC WAS MUCH MORE SEVERE ON MATH PERFORMANCE ANYWAY, SO IT'S JUST A COMBINATION OF FACTS THAT SAYS LETS START HERE.

PLUS THERE'S ALSO THE AVERAGE PEOPLE IN FRONT.

>> EATING THAT ELEPHANT ONE BITE AT A TIME?

>> EXACTLY.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TOO.

I LOVE STEPHEN COVEY'S, HIS SENTIMENTS ABOUT BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND, AND THAT'S HOW YOU STARTED WITH WHERE DO WE WANT TO GO, WHAT DO WE WANT OUR GOALS TO BE? I THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.

THEN EVERYTHING YOU SHARED.

[01:40:01]

THANK YOU BOARD FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND YOUR QUESTIONS.

AS WE CONTINUE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SLOW GROWTH MODEL, I'M EXCITED ABOUT WHAT'S TO COME AND I DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.

YOU ANSWERED ONE OF THEM IN THE NEXT SLIDE THAT SHE PRESENTED, WHICH WAS THE MONITORING.

THE ONLY THING I WILL SAY IS AND I ALSO APPRECIATE THE COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH BECAUSE YOU MENTIONED ABOUT THE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, AND ATTENTION FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THE REDESIGN.

THE ONE AREA THAT I WOULD ASK FOR US TO REALLY CONSIDER IS ALSO PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL AND HOW THAT WILL BE ADDRESSED.

BECAUSE WE KNOW AGAIN, THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL, THE PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT IS HIGH WITH PTAS.

PARENTS ARE ON CAMPUS, THEY'RE HIGHLY ENGAGED AND IT JUST DROPS OFF AS THE STUDENTS GET OLDER.

THAT WOULD BE THE ONLY CONSIDERATION I WOULD ADD IN THAT COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH WOULD BE THE PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT.

AT THIS TIME, I THINK WE HAVE COVERED EVERYTHING UP TO THIS POINT.

[12.0 Executive Session]
