THANK YOU. MR. KIRCHNER, WHO WAS OUR FIRST SPEAKER TONIGHT? >> MADAM PRESIDENT, OUR FIRST SPEAKER AND ONLY SPEAKER TONIGHT IS DR. LIZDELIA PINON. DR. PINON ? >> [INAUDIBLE] . GOOD EVENING. AS TEAM MEMBERS OF THE COLLEGE SCHOOL BOARD. I'M DR. LIZDELIA PINON AND I'M A PROUD PARENT IN YOUR DISTRICT. MY DAUGHTER FELICITA IS A BRIGHT AND VIBRANT WHEELCHAIR USER THAT REPRESENTS THE HEART OF MY ADVOCACY TO [INAUDIBLE]. I STAND HERE AS A PARENT AND AS A CHAMPION FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN OUR COMMUNITY. EDUCATION [INAUDIBLE] FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE, FIERCELY PROTECTED ON THE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES OF EDUCATION ACT IN SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT. THESE LAWS AREN'T JUST WORDS ON PAPER, THEIR PROMISES OF FREE APPROPRIATE PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS I BELIEVE THAT. THE CURRENT SYSTEM BURDENS PARENTS WITH CHILDREN'S OF DISABILITY. IT MAKES US CONSTANTLY FIGHT FOR A [INAUDIBLE] INCLUSION. THIS MUST CHANGE. WE NEED A PARADIGM SHIFT WHERE TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS PROACTIVELY UNDERSTAND AND MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, [00:05:04] FOSTERING A TRULY ENGAGING EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT. IMAGINE IF YOU WILL, CLASS WERE DIFFERENCES ARE NOT JUST TOLERATED BUT CELEBRATED WHERE IT'S NOT AN INCONVENIENCE IS NOT SEEN AS A BARRIER, BUT AS A STEPPING STONE TO GREATER EMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING. OUR DEMAND FOR CONVENIENCE MUST BE CHALLENGED AND MUST BE RETHOUGHT. INCLUSION ISN'T JUST A LOFTY IDEA, IT'S A PRACTICAL, ACHIEVABLE GOAL. IT REQUIRES COLLABORATION, SUPPORT, A FIRM BELIEF IN THIS [INAUDIBLE] AND THE VALUE OF EVERY STUDENT. IT REQUIRES US TO CONFRONT OUR BIASES TO INVEST IN TRAINING, STAFFING. BECAUSE LET'S NOT FORGET, IT'S ALSO THE LAW. EVIDENCE OF BONDS THAT INCLUSIVE EDUCATED SHIN, BENEFITS ARE, GENERAL STUDENTS OFTEN PERFORM THE SAME OR BETTER. IN INCLUSIVE SETTINGS, TEACHERS, WHEN PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND TRAINED, FLOURISH IN THEIR ABILITY TO CATER TO DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS. INCLUSION THUS ELEVATE EVERYONE. UNFORTUNATELY, INCLUSIVITY REMAINS AN ACTIVE THOUGHT RATHER THAN A PRIORITY. DECISIONS OFTEN OVERLOOKED THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF STUDENTS LIKE FELICITA. THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT PHYSICAL ACCESS, IT'S ABOUT HER RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE, TO LEARN, TO GROW ALONGSIDE HER PEERS. INCLUSION MEANS ADAPTING, TEACHING METHODS, ACTIVITIES, FIELD TRIP, AND CRUCIALLY OUR ATTITUDES. EVERY CHILD, REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY, DESERVE TO FEEL WELCOME, CHALLENGE, AND SUPPORT IT. WE'RE NOT SEEKING SPECIAL TREATMENT, WERE DEMANDING EQUAL TREATMENT. WE DIDN'T MENTIONED SCHOOLS OR DIFFERENCES ARE EMBRACED WHERE EVERY STUDENT AS A TOOL AND SUPPORT THAT NEEDS TO SUCCEED. THIS ISN'T A FAVOR. THIS IS FELICITA'S RIGHT, SO TO THE BOARD, I PROPOSE A REVIEWER UPDATE TO POLICIES TO SUPPORT STUDENTS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES, A COMMITMENT TO FULLY ACCESSIBLE AND INCLUSIVE FACILITIES. JUST GETTING FROM THE PART-TIME HALF, THERE WAS NO PARK, THERE WAS NO SCIENCE, THE SHOULDER WHERE THE HECK WAS. THE DOORS ARE TOO HEAVY FOR HER TO PUSH OPEN. EVEN THIS PODIUM IS NOT VERY ACCESSIBLE. A REGULAR STAFF TRAINING ON OUR DIVERSITY THAT NEEDS A COMMITTEE OF DIVERSE PARENTS OF DISABLED STUDENTS FOR ONGOING FEEDBACK SYSTEM TO MONITOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THESE POLICY. IN CONCLUSION, LET'S CONSIDER THE MESSAGE, OUR ACTION AND POLICIES [NOISE] FOR OUR CHILDREN OR TEACHING. LET'S TEACH THEM EMPATHY, RESPECT, AND EQUALITY, FOR EXAMPLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT, DR. MCFARLAND, YOU'VE ALWAYS COME TO THE TABLE TO LISTEN TO MY CONCERNS AND WELL-BEING FOR ALL OUR CHILDREN. FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME OR IF YOU [INAUDIBLE] FOR QUESTIONS. THANK YOU. >> AT THIS TIME, [3.0 Executive Session] THE BOARD WILL NOW ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE 551.071 FOR THE PRIVATE CONSULTATION WITH THE BOARD'S ATTORNEY AND 551.074 TO DISCUSS THE SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION INSTRUMENT. WE HAVE AGENDA ITEM 4.1, [4.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item(s)] WHICH IS THE POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE THE SUPERINTENDENT'S PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND CONTRACT.
