[3.0 Recognition Item(s)]
UIL STATE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPION, INDYA MAYBERRY. DR. MCFARLAND.>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE ARE SO EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT RECOGNITION.
WE HAVE OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, MR. GREG WILLIAMS, WHO WILL PRESENT THIS NEXT ITEM. MR. WILLIAMS.
>> GOOD EVENING. MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. MCFARLAND.
I'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF ATTENDING THE STATE TRACK AND FIELD MEET FOR THE LAST 30-PLUS YEARS, AND I'VE SEEN MANY GREAT PERFORMANCES.
WE WERE FORTUNATE IN CISD TO SEND FOUR OF OUR ATHLETES TO THE MEET THAT WAS HELD IN AUSTIN LAST WEEKEND.
ALL OF OUR ATHLETES PERFORMED WELL, BUT ONE IN PARTICULAR HAD A DAY TO REMEMBER. CHECK OUT THE VIDEO.
>> HOW REALLY STRONG, THAT IS MAYBERRY WITH THE GRAY-BLUE UNIFORM WHERE SHE IS TRYING TO PULL AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE FIELD.
>> AN INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE AND POSSIBLY A CLASS RECORD FROM INDYA MAYBERRY HERE. [APPLAUSE]
>> WITH THAT VERY LOW DRY FACE.
GREAT UNIFORM, ALREADY MAKING UP THE STAFF ON ROBINSON AND THEN THE REST OF THE SEAL.
>> JOHNSON'S RUNNING UP AGAINST HER, THOUGH IN AGE.
TRYING TO CHALLENGE. SHE'S ON MAYBERRY RIGHT NOW ALONG WITH ROBINSON.
>> ROBINSON TRYING TO PUSH BACK, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE MAYBERRY TO LEAVE OUT FRONT.
>> THAT IS A NEW CONFERENCE [INAUDIBLE] UNDOUBTEDLY FROM INDYA MAYBERRY, 2282.
[00:10:18]
>> I WOULD LIKE TO BRING UP COACH SHERI LACY TO SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT INDYA AND INTRODUCE OF OTHER QUALIFIERS AS WELL.
HE INTRODUCED MYSELF, BUT THIS IS ALSO COACH TAYLOR.
COACH TAYLOR IS THE BOYS TRACK COACH AND WE WORK HAND IN HAND SO I ASKED HIM TO COME AND JOIN ME TONIGHT.
IT IS AN HONOR TO GET TO INTRODUCE MISS INDYA MAYBERRY.
INDYA IS A SENIOR AT NORTH CROWLEY.
SHE'S BEEN THERE ALL FOUR YEARS, BUT THE UNIQUE THING ABOUT HER IS THAT THIS IS HER FIRST FULL SEASON OF TRACK AND FIELD IN NORTH CROWLEY.
INDYA IS YOUR TYPICAL TEENAGER.
WE HAD SOME GOOD DAYS AND SOME NOT SO GOOD DAYS AND WORKOUTS AND THINGS, BUT I ALWAYS SAY THAT TRACK IS THE HARDEST SPORT TO TRAIN FOR SO IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE.
THROUGHOUT THE SEASON, COACH TAYLOR AND MYSELF, WE CREATED WORKOUTS AND WE TAG TEAMED THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO ENSURE THAT THEY GOT DONE WHAT WE NEEDED THEM TO DO.
THIS SEASON, INDYA SHOWED A LOT OF GROWTH AND MATURITY.
WHEN I SAY THIS IS OUR FIRST SEASON, SO WE SAW A LOT OF GROWTH AND MATURITY FROM HER.
SHE WAS ABLE TO START AND FINISH, WHICH WAS ABSOLUTELY A PLEASURE IN SEEING HER FROM THIS PERSPECTIVE.
YOU HAD TO UNDERSTAND THAT IN ORDER TO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, BUT IT'S BEEN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL SEEING HER IN THIS PERSPECTIVE AND IN THIS LIGHT IN TRACK AND FIELD AND GETTING THAT HONOR THAT SHE'S DESERVING OF.
SHE HAD AN INJURY EARLY IN THE SEASON THAT TOOK HER OUT, I BELIEVE IT WAS 3.5 WEEKS, BUT SHE STILL STAYED THE COURSE.
SHE CONTINUED TO COME TO WORKOUTS.
SHE GOT HER REHAB, AND SHE GOT HERSELF BACK TO WHERE SHE NEEDED TO BE SO SHE WAS ABLE TO BOUNCE BACK.
ONCE SHE DID THAT, IT WAS GO TIME.
THIS SEASON, INDYA HAS ACCOMPLISHED SOME THINGS THAT NO ONE IN LADY PANTHER TRACK TEAM HAS EVER ACCOMPLISHED IN NORTH CROWLEY'S TRACK HISTORY.
SHE IS THE 2024 UIL'S DISTRICT CHAMPION, AREA CHAMPION, REGIONAL CHAMPION, AND NOW THE STATE CHAMPION.
[APPLAUSE] SHE WAS ABLE TO SET SOME PERSONAL RECORDS FOR HERSELF.
NOT ONLY FOR HERSELF, SHE NOW HOLDS THE SCHOOL RECORDS IN BOTH THE 100 METERS AND THE 200 METERS FOR NORTH CROWLEY, WHICH I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO STAND THERE FOR A LONG TIME.
SHE RAN A TIME OF 11.21 IN THE 100 METERS AT THE STATE MEET, AND SHE RAN A TIME OF 22.82 AT THE STATE MEET IN THE 200 METERS.
LIKE I SAID, S HE HOLDS THE RECORD FOR NORTH CROWLEY.
SHE HOLDS THE 6A REGIONAL ONE RECORD.
SHE HOLDS THE STATE RECORD, AND SHE IS CURRENTLY SITTING IN THE NUMBER 1 PLACE AND HOLDING THE RECORD IN THE NATION FOR THE 100 AND 200 METERS.
[APPLAUSE] WE ARE VERY PROUD OF INDYA, AND WE JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU GOT THE HONOR THAT YOU DESERVE.
WE ALSO HAD TWO OTHER ATHLETES THAT COMPETED WITH US AT THE STATE MEET.
WE HAD CAMDEN HAWKINS AND HE'S NOT ABLE TO BE WITH US HERE TONIGHT.
CAMD EN RAN IN THE 200 METERS AND HE FINISHED IN EIGHTH PLACE, SO HE IS EIGHTH IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
>> LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE HAVE SAMAYA ROBERSON.
SAMAYA IS A JUNIOR SO SHE'S GOING TO SHE HAS ANOTHER SEASON.
SHE RAN IN THE 100 METERS AND SHE FINISHED EIGHTH PLACE IN THE STATE MEET, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO SAMAYA.
>> [BACKGROUND] WE'LL SHAKE HANDS WITH THESE WINNERS.
THIS IS AWESOME. ARE YOUR PARENTS HERE OR FAMILY MEMBERS? DO YOU HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS HERE? IF YOU'RE A FAMILY MEMBER, WOULD YO U PLEASE STAND SO WE CAN CONGRATULATE YOU AS WELL.
[00:15:31]
THAT'S INCREDIBLE. ARE THERE ANY TRACK STARS IN THE BOARD THAT CAN RELATE ANY? THAT'S AMAZING.I CAN'T RELATE BECAUSE I'M NOT A RUNNER, SO I CAN ONLY SAY, THAT'S SOME FAST RUNNING THAT I SAW.
WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST INDYA.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING NEXT YEAR OR WHERE ARE YOU HEADED? HAVE YOU COMMITTED ANYWHERE?
[APPLAUSE] AWESOME. WELL, CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO OUR SCHOLAR ATHLETES.
THANK YOU COACHES FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AS WELL.
AT THIS TIME, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 3.2.
THIS IS THE APPRECIATION OF OUR 2023/24 STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES, DR. MCFARLAND.
>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KIRCHNER, WE'LL BE PRESENTING THIS NEXT ITEM. MR. KIRCHNER.
>> THANK YOU, DR. FROLAN MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
THIS APPRECIATION ALIGNS WITH GOAL 1 THRIVING STUDENTS, BUT WE'RE GOING TO ALSO THROW IN GOAL 2 ENGAGED COMMUNITY BECAUSE THIS ENGAGEMENT WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY YOU AND YOUR VISION TO HEAR STUDENT VOICE, NOT ONLY IN SURVEYS AND GROUPS ACROSS THE DISTRICT, BUT ACTUALLY HAVING STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES HERE AT OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS.
WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE VISION FOR THIS.
IT HAS BEEN PHENOMENAL AT EVERY REGULAR BOARD MEETING AT THE END OF THE MONTH TO HAVE TWO OF OUR STUDENTS SITTING THERE, ONE FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, ONE FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL PROVIDING INPUT ON THINGS THAT YOU ALL ARE TALKING ABOUT THAT IMPACT EVERY STUDENT OF CASS CROWLEY ISD.
WE ALSO HAVE GOTTEN TO HEAR WHAT WE CALL THEIR THREE CS, THEIR CELEBRATIONS, THEIR CAMPUS EVENTS, AND THEIR CONSIDERATIONS EVERY MONTH.
THEY HAVE DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB.
I'D LIKE TO CALL THEIR NAMES AND INVITE THEM TO STAND UP HERE WITH ME.
WE ALSO HAVE A COUPLE THAT ARE SENIORS THAT ARE MOVING ON, BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS WILL BE CONTINUING NEXT YEAR IN THEIR ROLE AS STUDENT TRUSTEE.
WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE EACH OF THEM.
AS I CALL YOUR NAME, IF YOU'LL COME UP HERE AND STAND TO THE SIDE OF THE PODIUM.
WE'LL START WITH VINCENT JAMES.
HE IS A 10TH GRADER AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, MR. JAMES.
[APPLAUSE] WE ALSO HAVE AN 11TH GRADER FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, NEVA HAMILTON ROBERTS.
[APPLAUSE] ETHAN HUNT IS AN 11TH GRADER, NORTH CROWLEY.
ETHAN WAS HERE EARLIER FOR THE DINNER.
HE HAD ANOTHER COMMITMENT TONIGHT.
AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THESE ARE VERY ENGAGED, ACTIVE, BUSY STUDENTS.
WE HAD SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON TONIGHT.
FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND 11TH GRADE, WE HAVE MISS ROSE JONES.
[APPLAUSE] CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL NOT ABLE TO BE HERE TONIGHT, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO RECOGNIZE JORDAN MONTGOMERY AND 11TH GRADE STUDENT THE CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
ALSO IN 11TH GRADE COMING BACK NEXT YEAR, NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOLS MICHAELA NICHOLAS, MISS NICHOLAS.
[APPLAUSE] NOW WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE OUR SENIORS.
I'M ASKED MY SENIORS TO COME OVER ON THIS SIDE OF THE PODIUM AS I CALL YOUR NAME.
UP FIRST, 12TH GRADE GRADUATING FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, MISS SARAH ABRAM.
[APPLAUSE] ALSO, A 12TH GRADER AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE GUADALUPE GOMEZ.
[APPLAUSE] IN 12TH GRADE AT NORTH CROWLEY, WE HAVE JADEN MAYFIELD.
[APPLAUSE] NOT ABLE TO BE HERE WITH US HERE TONIGHT. HE'S BUSY.
WE HAVE MR. TOMMY TRAN HAS ALSO BEEN AT MANY OF OUR BOARD MEETINGS.
TRUSTEES, THESE ARE THE FACES OF OUR STUDENTS THAT REPRESENT THE MORE THAN 17,000 STUDENTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
THE INPUT WE'VE HAD ON EVERYTHING FROM DRESS CODES AND CLEAR BACKPACKS AND SCHEDULES, BATHROOMS. I MEAN, THE LIST IS ENDLESS.
THEY'VE LET US HEAR THEIR INPUT, AND IT HAS BEEN PHENOMENAL.
AND I BELIEVE IT'S MADE US BETTER AS A DISTRICT.
THANK YOU. STUDENT TRUSTEES. LET'S CHEER IT FOR THEM.
[APPLAUSE] AS WE MENTIONED, SOME OF THESE ARE SENIORS AND BE GRADUATING HERE OVER THE MULTIPURPOSE STADIUM IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS,
[00:20:01]
AND WE WANTED THE WORLD TO KNOW THAT THEY WERE STUDENT TRUSTEES.DR. MAYFIELD, WOULD YOU COME DOWN AND HELP US? WE ARE GOING TO PUT ON OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES WHO ARE GRADUATING SENIORS.
THESE STOOLS SAY, STUDENT TRUSTEE, SO EVERYONE CAN KNOW THAT YOU ALL HAVE SERVED THE DISTRICT IN THIS ROLE.
DR. MAYFIELD IS GOING TO HELP PUT YOUR STOLE ON TONIGHT.
>> MR. GRASSIA, LET'S GET YOU OVER HERE AS WELL TO CONGRATULATE OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES FOR GRADUATING.
YES, WE'LL DO SHAKING HANDS. TO STUDENT TRUSTEES, LET'S SHAKE HANDS WITH OUR TEES.
YOU ALL WE WANT YOU BACK NEXT YEAR, AND YOU THREE, WE'RE GOING TO BE CHEERING FOR YOU AND WATCHING THE GREAT TO BE ACCOMPLISHED.
>> PLEASE DO YOU HAVE ANY COMMENT THAT YOU WANTED TO MAKE TO THE BOARD?
>> I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I HAVE ADMIRED EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU.
YOU GUYS HAVE SHARED A LOT OF INSIGHT WITH US ON WHAT WE CAN DO BETTER.
I GREATLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE DONE WHILE YOU SIT ON THIS SIDE OF THE ROOM.
I'VE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL OF YOU AND YOU SAID YOU'RE NERVOUS.
BUT YOU DID WONDERFUL, AND I KNOW YOU WILL GO FAR.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SERVING.
>> THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.
STUDENT TRUSTEES, THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SERVICE THAT YOU HAVE RENDERED TO OUR DISTRICT.
EACH OF YOU ARE A LEADER IN YOUR OWN RIGHT, AND NOT ONLY ARE YOU A LEADER, BUT YOU ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF ALL THAT IS GREAT IN CROWLEY ISD.
YOU HAVE GIVEN VOICE TO YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS, AND YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE NOT JUST FOR US HERE ON THE DIS BUT YOU'VE MADE A DIFFERENCE, AS MR. KIRCHNER SAID FOR THE 17,000 STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD.
THOUGH SOME MAY THINK THE CONSIDERATION ITEMS THAT YOU ALL HAVE BROUGHT TO US ARE MINOR TO US, THEY HAVE BEEN MAJOR.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING US BETTER AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR DISTRICT BETTER.
>> I ALWAYS HATE FOLLOWING AFTER TRUSTEE DAVIS BECAUSE HE'S ALWAYS SO ELOQUENT WITH HIS REMARKS.
BUT TWO THINGS THAT ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO ME HAVE BEEN SERVANT LEADERSHIP AND CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY, AND YOU ALL EMBODY BOTH.
YOU GET TO SPEND THOSE EVENINGS, LATE EVENINGS WITH US TWICE A MONTH, AND I DON'T THINK PEOPLE KNOW WHAT A SACRIFICE THAT IS, BUT YOU DO.
WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE TIME THAT YOU'VE DEDICATED TO SERVING NOT ONLY OUR DISTRICT, BUT ALSO REPRESENTING YOUR STUDENT BODY.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL BACK NEXT YEAR, AND LADIES, I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN YOUR FUTURE AND CONTINUE TO SERVE IN DOING WHAT YOU DO.
>> I DON'T KNOW. HOW MUCH TIME DO WE HAVE? I DON'T HAVE A COMMENT PER SE, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR PERSPECTIVE AND WHAT SERVING AS A STUDENT TRUSTEE MEANS TO YOU OR HAS MEANT TO YOU.
THEN FOR OUR GRADUATING SENIORS, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE THIS EXPERIENCE ON YOUR NEXT JOURNEY.
>> ROSE, I THINK YOU HAD SOME REMARKS READY.
>> THIS PAST SUNDAY EVENING AND ESPECIALLY LAST NIGHT, I STARTED TO REFLECT ON MY YEARS AND TIME AS A STUDENT TRUSTEE.
I GO BACK TO 2019 WHEN I WAS ACCEPTED INTO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S ROUNDTABLE AS IT WAS CALLED BACK THEN.
I WAS THE SHIEST GIRL YOU COULD POSSIBLY EVER MEET.
I REMEMBER THE FIRST BOARD MEETING THAT I WENT TO THAT YEAR AND I WAS SCARED OUT OF MY MIND.
THEN COVID HIT AND WE HAD OUR MEETINGS ON ZOOM, ABOUT HOW TO KEEP A SCHOOL YEAR GOING WITH ALL THAT WAS GOING ON IN THE WORLD.
I REMEMBER ONE SPECIFIC ZOOM THAT I WAS ON, AND THAT WAS WHEN MY CONFIDENCE LEVEL HAD CHANGED AND I HAD STARTED TO FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE.
MY CONFIDENCE HAS DEFINITELY GROWN OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS AND CONTINUES TO DO SO WITH THE STUDENT TRUSTEE PROGRAM.
THIS IS MY SECOND YEAR AND DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE.
[00:25:02]
IT'S AMAZING TO SEE WHAT MYSELF AND THESE STUDENTS NEXT TO ME HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE DISTRICT AND HAVE DONE ALREADY.I'M SO GRATEFUL TO BE PART OF THIS DISTRICT AND AMAZING PROGRAM. THANK YOU.
>> I'M SO SORRY. CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION?
>> I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE MEANS TO YOU OR HAS MEANT SERVING HERE.
CAN YOU ELABORATE ON YOUR EXPERIENCE, AND THEN I WANTED TO KNOW FOR OUR SENIORS, WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO TAKE THIS EXPERIENCE IN OUR JOURNEY NEXT.
>> WELL, SERVING ON THE BOARD THE EXPERIENCE OF SERVING ON THE BOARD, IT REALLY HELPED ME WITH MY PUBLIC SPEAKING BECAUSE I'M A VERY NERVOUS PERSON.
PEOPLE WOULD BE AFRAID TO COME UP TO ME, BUT I'M JUST NOT IT WHEN IT COMES TO JUST SPEAKING, AND ESPECIALLY SPEAKING IN FRONT OF PEOPLE, I GET NERVOUS.
BUT IT HAS HELPED ME AND ALSO JUST GIVING MY THOUGHT ON MY SCHOOL AND MY COMMUNITY AROUND ME HAS JUST HAS LED ME TO GREAT THINGS AND IT'S LEADING ME TO MORE FUTURE GREAT THINGS.
I LOVE THAT. THANK YOU, DR. MCFAR.
>> I KNOW. MAN, I LOOK SO SHORT COMPARED TO THIS. OH, MY GOSH.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INVITING ME TO BE ON THE BOARD.
IT HAS BEEN A REALLY FUN EXPERIENCE AND VERY ENLIGHTENING.
IT SHOWS THAT YOU GUYS REALLY DO CARE.
A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY THAT YOU DON'T, BUT I KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE.
I KNOW THE INSIDE INFO NO ONE ELSE DOES.
BUT IT'S BEEN SUPER GREAT, AND I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU GUYS HAVE ALL OF US TO GIVE US OUR VOICES AND CONCERNS ABOUT THE SCHOOLS TO MAKE IT BETTER.
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ALL OF US AND DOING THE BEST THAT YOU CAN TO MAKE IT BETTER.
I HAVE TO GO NOW FOR MY BAND CONCERT.
I PROMISE YOU TO RECORD. THANK YOU.
>> YOU GUYS KNOW HOW NERVOUS I GET, BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU GUYS FOR LISTENING.
I REALLY FEEL LIKE MY VOICE HAS BEEN OH, SORRY.
I WAS LIKE, WHY AM I GETTING QUIETER? I FEEL LIKE MY VOICE HAS BEEN VERY POWERFUL AND I'VE ACTUALLY SEEN A CHANGE OF WHAT I'VE SAID AND WHAT I'VE REQUESTED.
I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THAT.
>> MIKE DOWN. I'VE BEEN WITH THIS FOR A LONG TIME EVER SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL, LIKE SEVENTH GRADE WHEN I WAS ALSO NOT TALKING TO ANYBODY, LIKE A LOT OF Y'ALL, AND I WAS ALSO AFRAID OF SPEAKING PUBLICLY.
I REMEMBER FIRST MEETING WITH ROSE, JAYDEN JUST THERE BEING LIKE, AM I OKAY TO SPEAK NOW? IT'S REALLY NICE GETTING A VOICE AND SHE SAID, ACTUALLY BEING HEARD AND A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK THAT.
I MEAN, THEY KNOW THERE'S A SCHOOL BOARD, THEY KNOW THERE'S TRUSTEES, BUT THEY DON'T REALLY SEE.
I FEEL LIKE THIS OPPORTUNITY HAS GIVEN ME THE SITE, LIKE, I GUESS, THE THIRD EYE SORTS, BECAUSE I'M ABLE TO SEE THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS PUT IN BEHIND THE SCENES, AND I GET TO ACTUALLY MAKE INPUT IN YALLER MORE THAN JUST A NAME I HEAR OR A PLAQUE THAT I SEE IN MY SCHOOL.
I'M JUST REALLY APPRECIATIVE BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAVE GIVEN ME THE PLATFORM TO BE MORE CONFIDENT TO SPEAK LIKE I AM NOW AND HAVE ALSO GENUINELY CARED.
THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO GENUINELY DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON, BUT I KNOW YOU GUYS DO.
THAT'S A REALLY IMPACTFUL, REALLY IMPACTFUL STATEMENT.
I FEEL LIKE EVERY MODEL THAT IS BROUGHT FORTH, YOU'LL ACTUALLY BACK IT UP, ALL ACTUALLY EMBODY THAT MOTTO.
I WILL BE ATTENDING RICE UNIVERSITY IN THE FALL.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR JUST FOSTERING MY GROWTH AND EMPOWERING ME AS A WOMAN. THANK YOU.
I JUST WANT TO START OFF BY SAYING THANK YOU.
ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T START MIDDLE SCHOOL, I AM A LATE BIRD.
I REALLY DO WISH I WOULD HAVE JOINED A LITTLE BIT SOONER.
BECAUSE THIS WAS A VERY BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE TO BE ABLE TO SEE HOW THE INSIDE WORKS.
[00:30:02]
I WILL BE GOING TO U&T. GO EAGLES.I DON'T KNOW THAT LITTLE THING, BUT MY EXPERIENCE, I WILL SAY I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A VERY OUTSPOKEN PERSON, BUT BECAUSE I AM AN OUTSPOKEN PERSON, I DO APPRECIATE THIS OPPORTUNITY.
MORE OF MY VOICE HAS BEEN HEARD AS LONG AS A LOT OF MY CLASSMATES AND WE JUST APPRECIATE EVERYTHING I'LL DO.
I DO THINK THAT IF YOU WERE TO SHOW IT OFF ON MORE SOCIAL MEDIA, WHAT YOU'LL DOING HERE, MORE OF THIS WHOLE SCHOOL OR THE HIGH SCHOOLERS WOULD UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH IMPORTANT ARE TO US BECAUSE YOU'LL DO SO MUCH FOR US.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND FOR MY NEW STOUT.
I GO TO NORTH CROWLEY IN CASE ANYBODY DIDN'T HEAR.
I'VE BEEN HERE SINCE THE BEGINNING, HONESTLY, AND IT'S BEEN A JOURNEY.
IT'S BEEN A LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
IT'S DEFINITELY BEEN SOMETHING.
ONE THING I WOULD ALWAYS TAKE AWAY FROM EACH MEETING IS MORE CONFIDENCE IN MY VOICE LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE HAS SAID.
WITH THAT, IT'S LIKE FROM THE BEGINNING, YEAH, I WAS NERVOUS.
I WAS ALWAYS OUTSPOKEN BECAUSE MOM KNOWS, MADAM KNOWS.
THERE YOU GO. SHE KNOWS I'M ALWAYS OUTSPOKEN.
I PROBABLY GET THE LAST WORD, BUT OVER AT THAT CHAIR OR WHATEVER CHAIR WAS THERE AT THE TIME, IT WAS LIKE, OKAY.
BUT Y'ALL MADE ME FEEL SO HEARD, SO NOTICED, AND SO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT I TRULY AM MORE COMFORTABLE IN ANY SETTING THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY PUT SOMEBODY IN THAT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO SPEAK YOUR VOICE TO TALK TO PEOPLE OF POWER, ESPECIALLY.
IT'S BEEN A GAINING SKILL THING GOING ON.
MOVING ON, I DO APPRECIATE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE BOARD MEMBERS, Y'ALL HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING ME.
ALMOST EVERY SINGLE EVENT I COULD EVEN THINK OF.
BUT YEAH, I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT, ESPECIALLY MISS DAVIS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
OF COURSE, DR. MCFARLAND, YOU'VE BEEN THERE WITH ME SINCE THE BEGINNING AND YOU'VE ASKED THE QUESTIONS THAT NEEDED TO BE ASKED AND YOU'VE HEARD THE ANSWERS THAT HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO YOU AND YOU FOLLOWED THROUGH.
THANK YOU TO MY LOVELY MOTHER FOR PUTTING ME IN THIS POSITION BECAUSE IT WAS SO NEEDED. BUT YEAH.
MOVING FORWARD, ANY UP INCOMING PEOPLE THAT ARE PLANNING TO JOIN PROGRAMS AND JOIN ROLES LIKE THIS ONE, DO IT AND TAKE NOTICE OF IT.
TAKE YOUR NOTE, DO WHAT YOU GOT TO DO.
JUST FOLLOW THROUGH AND YOU GOT IT.
THANK YOU. HOW ARE YOU? OH, PEW.
DR. MAYFIELD, JUST CLOSING REMARKS, I WANT YOU GUYS TO KNOW YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
I HOPE THIS EXPERIENCE WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.
AS THOSE OF YOU GETTING READY TO GO OFF TO COLLEGE AND THE THINGS AND THE EXPERIENCES YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE THERE, NO, YOU GOT THIS.
YOU GOT IT. THOSE OF YOU THAT WILL BE GOING IN THE NEXT YEAR, YOU GOT IT. YOU ARE AMAZING.
[00:35:07]
>> THANK YOU AGAIN, MR. KIRCHNER, FOR THAT PRESENTATION.

>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE ARE SO EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.
YOU ARE DEFINITELY GOING TO BE HOPEFULLY IMPRESSED AND JUST THANKFUL.
I KNOW I AM AND DEFINITELY I'M EXCITED TO HEAR THE PRESENTATION.
DR. BARRY IS PREPARED TO PRESENT THIS ITEM. DR. BARRY.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. GOOD EVENING, DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, AND ESTEEM BOARD.

>> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, DR. MCFARLAND, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
I AM VERY PLEASED TO PRESENT THIS GROUP OF EDUCATORS.
WE HAVE REALLY WORKED DILIGENTLY TO FIND OPPORTUNITIES FOR VARIOUS PEOPLE THAT WE KNOW HAVE THE PASSION TO BE HERE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
TODAY, IT IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO HONOR THESE INDIVIDUALS AND RECOGNIZE THESE EDUCATORS FOR THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE PROGRAMS THAT THEY HAVE BEEN ENROLLED IN.
THE FIRST GROUP WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE IS OUR TCLAS, WHICH STANDS FOR TEXAS, COVID LEARNING ACCELERATION SUPPORT PROGRAM.
THIS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR PARAEDUCATORS TO OBTAIN THEIR TEACHING CERTIFICATION.
TODAY, I WANT TO RECOGNIZE, FIRST OFF, WE HAVE MS. CHRISTINA MARS.
SHE HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED HER PROGRAM, AND WE ARE HOPING THAT SHE WILL GRACE ONE OF CLASSROOMS IN THE FALL.

SHE HAS ALSO COMPLETED THE TCLAS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS, AND HOPEFULLY, WE WILL SEE HER IN A CLASSROOM NEARBY SERVING OUR WONDERFUL STUDENTS.
[APPLAUSE] NOW, THE NEXT GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS IS OUR TEACHER AND RESIDENTS.
THESE ARE INDIVIDUALS THAT HOLD BACHELOR'S DEGREES OR HIGHER, AND THEY PARTICULARLY WERE NOT IN EDUCATION.
THEY DID NOT HAVE THEIR TEACHING CERTIFICATION.
WE WERE ABLE TO BRING THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE INTO OUR SCHOOLS WHILE THEY WERE WORKING ON THEIR ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.
WE ARE PLEASED THAT 25 OF OUR TEACHER AND RESIDENTS HAVE MET THEIR GOAL.
OF COURSE, THEY ARE NOT ALL HERE TONIGHT.
[APPLAUSE] BECAUSE THIS HAS NOT BEEN AN EASY TASK.
THEY ARE IN CLASSROOMS WITH OUR STUDENTS WORKING HARD EVERY DAY, BUT THEY ARE ALSO COMPLETING THEIR MODULES, WORKING ON THEIR PROGRAM, READY TO TEST.
[00:40:03]
THESE INDIVIDUALS TODAY, AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU RECOGNIZE HIS FIRST INDIVIDUAL.HE IS ALSO OUR CISD TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
HE STARTED AS A TEACHER RESIDENT.
[APPLAUSE] WE WANT TO START WITH MR. SONNY CORIANO.
HE HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE PROGRAM TO OBTAIN HIS INTERNAL CERTIFICATION LEADING INTO A LONG CAREER IN EDUCATION.
[APPLAUSE] NEXT, WE HAVE MS. ROSHAUNN EARLY.
[APPLAUSE] LET'S CHEERS, GUYS.
THEY HAVE WORKED REALLY, REALLY HARD.
SHE HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE PROGRAM AS WELL.
[APPLAUSE] WE ALSO HAVE MR. PATRICK DAVIS.
[APPLAUSE] WE ALSO HAVE MS. MARCELLA TURNER.
[APPLAUSE] NEXT, WE HAVE MS. SAMANTHA HINCKSON.
[APPLAUSE] WE HAVE CRYSTAL ONEAL.
[APPLAUSE] LASTLY, WE HAVE MR. D'NARIUS GREEN.
[APPLAUSE] AS A PARTING GIFT, WE ARE GOING TO GIVE THEM A BEAUTIFUL BASKET.
EACH TEACHER AND RESIDENT, WE WANT TO SEND THEM INTO NEXT YEAR WITH A BASKET FULL OF SUPPLIES FOR THEIR NEXT GROUP OF STUDENTS, AND WE HOPE THEY CAN CONTINUE TO PUT IN ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT SO THAT WE CAN BREW OUR STUDENTS.
>> DR. MCFARLAND. I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.
>> THE SHERFIELD OR DR. BARRY.
>> SOMEBODY. DO WE HAVE ANY MORE TEACHERS IN THIS PROGRAM IN THE PIPELINE COMING DOWN OR.
>> WE DO HAVE SOME THAT ARE STILL COMPLETING THEIR PATHWAY.
THE GOAL IS TO CONTINUE TO GROW IN THAT AREA.
THAT IS SOMETHING WE CONTINUE TO ASPIRE TO DO.
>> AGAIN, WE ARE GREATLY APPRECIATIVE OF YOUR SUPPORT OF ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS. I KNOW THEY STEPPED OUTSIDE BECAUSE THEY ARE EXCITED TO CONGRATULATE THIS GROUP AND GIVE THEM THEIR PARTING GIFTS, BUT I DEFINITELY WOULD BE REMISS IF I DID NOT RECOGNIZE AND THEY PROBABLY DON'T HEAR ME OUR HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT TEAM THAT WORKS DILIGENTLY WITH THESE INDIVIDUALS DAILY TO TRY TO MAKE FOR SURE THAT THEY'RE ON TARGET AND GIVING THEM ALL THAT THEY NEED AND HUSTLING UP SUPPLIES FOR THEM.
I GREATLY APPRECIATE OUR HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT HR SPECIALISTS THAT DEFINITELY SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU, MS. SHERFIELD AND DR. BARRY.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AS WELL.
[APPLAUSE] DR. MCFARLAND, YOU ALSO FOR ALLOWING THIS PROGRAM TO EXIST.

I AM SO PROUD TO RECOGNIZE AND PRESENT FOR YOUR ACCEPTANCE BOARD THE DONATIONS FROM GRACE TABERNACLE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH TO NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN THE AMOUNT OF $800.
[APPLAUSE] TO JUNE DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE AMOUNT OF $200.
THESE DONATIONS HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO OUR DISTRICT PRESENTED TO OUR DISTRICT TO
[00:45:06]
ELIMINATE THE NEGATIVE FOOD SERVICE BALANCES OF THE STUDENTS AT BOTH OF THOSE CAMPUSES.THIS IS EXTREMELY SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE THE NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL BALANCE WAS $757.60.
>> THE JUNE DAVIS BALANCE WAS APPROXIMATELY $200.
WHAT DOES IT DO? WHY IS IT OUT? WE HAVE A COMMUNITY THAT IS EXCELLENT, A COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORTS OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.
WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO IS ALLOW MINISTER LOYA BRACKENS TO COME UP AND SAY A FEW WORDS. AWESOME.
>> DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. THOSE PRESENT.
GOOD EVENING. AGAIN, MY NAME IS LOYA BRACKENS OF THE GRACE TABERDACO MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.
WHAT BEGAN AS A SIMPLE CONCERN FOR A FEW STUDENTS HAS GROWN INTO A PASSION FOR ALL STUDENTS.
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE PARTNERSHIP OF SUPERINTENDENT MCFARLANE, TRUSTEE DAVIS, CHIEF OF STUDENT SERVICES, DARRYL MOFFITT, AND STUDENT NUTRITION COORDINATOR DANIEL ROBINSON, AS WE TOGETHER SEEK TO ELIMINATE ALL STUDENT LUNCH ACCOUNT DELINQUENCIES.
OUR GOALS ARE TO CONTINUE THIS EFFORT UNTIL ALL CURRENT DEBTS HAVE BEEN SATISFIED AND TO HAVE MEANS IN PLACE TO SATISFY NEEDS THAT ARISE IN COMING DAYS.
OUR PROGRESS, WHICH HAS BEEN MENTIONED, A BALANCE OF IN MY NUMBERS, MAYBE A LITTLE WHEN I PUT MY NUMBERS DOWN AND LON GAVE HIS NUMBERS.
>> I SAID, OH, WAIT A MINUTE, SOMETHING MUST HAVE BEEN UPDATED.
>> WE HAD A $709.36 BALANCE OF NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL THAT HAS BEEN SATISFIED WITH AN $800 DONATION, $154.94 BALANCE AT JUNE DAVIS THAT HAS BEEN SATISFIED WITH A $200 DONATION.
NOT ONLY HAVE THESE CHECKS BEEN DISTRIBUTED, BUT WE HAVE CURRENTLY $1,200 EARMARKED THAT WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AS UPDATED FINANCIAL REPORTING IS RECEIVED.
THANK YOU, CROWLEY ISD FOR ALLOWING US TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENTS IN THIS MANNER.
>> WHEN I SAW HER, I THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO SING FOR US BECAUSE SHE HAS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE.
SHE DIDN'T COME TO SING, BUT SHE CAME TO BLESS US IN ANOTHER WAY. THANK YOU.
>> ALL RIGHT. LET'S GIVE MINISTER BRACKINS AND GRACE TABERNACLE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.
>> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.
I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE DAVIS.
DAVIS REACHED OUT TO ME AND ASKED, HOW CAN WE DO THIS, HOW CAN WE FACILITATE THIS? THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS, FOR BEING FORWARD-THINKING AND REALLY REACHING OUT AND REALLY MAKING THIS HAPPEN.
WE APPRECIATE YOU, APPRECIATE YOUR LEADERSHIP AND FORESIGHT.
THEY ALSO APPRECIATE YOU THE MEMBERS OF GRACE TABERNA COMSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.
THANK YOU FOR ACTING LIKE A FAMILY AND WORKING LIKE A TEAM, AND WE STAND READY TO ASSIST STANDS READY TO ASSIST ANY WAY WE CAN.
THANK YOU FOR KEEPING US ENGAGED.
>> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. DR. MC FALLEN.
TRUSTEE DAVIS, DID YOU HAVE ANY?
>> THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.
I'D JUST LIKE TO APPRECIATE MINISTER LOYA, AS WELL AS THE GRACE TABERNACLE BAPTIST CHURCH.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I DON'T THINK SHE SPECIFIED WAS THIS WAS DONE BY ONE MINISTRY IN THEIR ENTIRE CONGREGATION.
THIS WAS THE YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY WHICH HAD A HEART TO BLESS THE STUDENTS OF CROWLEY ISD.
WE OFTENTIMES WHEN WE THINK ABOUT MINISTRY, WE OFTENTIMES THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE PHYSICAL CHURCH BUILDING.
THAT'S WORSHIP, BUT THAT IS NOT MINISTRY.
MINISTRY IS WHAT WE DO OUTSIDE OF THE FOUR WALLS OF THE CHURCH.
MINISTER LOYA TO YOU AND TO THE YOUNG ADULTS AT YOUR CHURCH, THANK YOU ALL FOR SERVING AND FOR MEETING THE NEEDS OF CROWLEY ISD STUDENTS.
WE BELIEVE THAT IN CROWLEY, WE ACT LIKE A FAMILY AND WE WORK LIKE A TEAM AND THE SACRIFICE THAT YOU ALL HAVE MADE, EVEN THOUGH YOU ALL ARE NOT WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE CROWLEY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, YOU ALL SOUGHT A KNEE OR SAW A NEED FOR OUR STUDENTS AND SO FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, AND I'M SURE FROM MY COLLEAGUES HERE ON THE BOARD, THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH.
>> YES. THANK YOU AGAIN. THANK YOU.
ALL RIGHT. WE ARE NOW AT OUR REPORT ITEMS, AGENDA ITEM 4.1.
[4.0 Report Item(s)]
[00:50:04]
DR. MCFARLAND, DID YOU WANT TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES?>> YES, MA'AM. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.
WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE T THREE LISTED, BUT WE'RE GOING TO POSTPONE THAT PRESENTATION UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH.
BECAUSE TONIGHT, WE WANTED TO REALLY TALK ABOUT OUR SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND GIVE YOU A PREVIEW OF THE SUMMER LEARNING THAT WE'LL BE OFFERING TO OUR STUDENTS INTO OUR COMMUNITY.
MR. KIRCHNER WILL COME FORWARD AND PRESENT THIS ITEM.
ALSO, SEE DR. VALENCIA HERE TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR STEM, AND ALSO I SEE MISS LATIN AND I'LL ASK HER TO COME UP AND TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR FINE ARTS CAMPS.
BUT AGAIN, WE'RE LOOKING FOR A GREAT SUMMER AND ENGAGING SUMMER AND MR. KIRCHNER WILL PRESENT THIS ITEM, MR. KIRCHNER.
>> THANK YOU, DR. FROLAN MADAM PRESIDENT, AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, OUR SUMMER LEARNING PREVIEW ALIGNS WITH GOAL ONE, THRIVING STUDENT, AND GOAL 2, ENGAGED COMMUNITY.
WE ALL KNOW, ESPECIALLY OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF WATCHING AT HOME THAT SCHOOL MAY ALMOST BE OUT.
BUT SUMMER LEARNING IS COMING IN CROWLEY ISD, THAT'S ACADEMICS WITH LITERACY AND SIM, FINE ARTS, ATHLETICS, AND EVEN SUMMER FEEDING OPPORTUNITIES AT THOSE CAMPUSES FOR STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN CAMP, BUT ALSO JUST ANY STUDENTS WHO ARE AT HOME.
WE JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A HIGH-LEVEL PREVIEW OF WHAT SOME OF THOSE OFFERINGS WILL LOOK LIKE.
AS WE START PROMOTING THOSE TOMORROW TO THE COMMUNITY.
ON THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU'LL SEE A CHART THAT HAS SOME COLORS ON IT.
IF IT'S A RED BOX, THAT MEANS IT'S SERVING OUR ELEMENTARY FAMILIES.
IF IT'S GREEN, IT'S SECONDARY, SO MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL, AND PURPLE WOULD CROSS MULTI GRADES, SO ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE A STEM ACADEMY FOR OUR GLOBAL LEADERS THAT MISS FLINCY WILL BE HERE TO TALK ABOUT FOR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE OVER AT THE CTE CENTER.
WE ALSO HAVE OUR ANNUAL FINE ARTS CAMP.
THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MANY, MANY YEARS, AND WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE THAT STILL GOING UNDER MISS LATON'S LEADERSHIP AND MISS JANICE HOLSTEINS.
ALSO AT THE ELEMENTARY, WE'LL HAVE AN ESL BILINGUAL PROGRAM.
FOR OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION, LEARNERS WILL HAVE SPEECH ACADEMIES AND THE EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR.
NOW THAT THREE THROUGH 21, THOSE ARE AGES, OF COURSE, NOT GRADES, BUT THOSE ARE FOR AGES, THREE ALL THE WAY UP TO 21, SERVING A WIDE VARIETY OF STUDENTS, AND YOU MET SOME OF OUR PHENOMENAL SPECIAL EDUCATION EDUCATORS LAST MONTH.
DOWN ON THE ROW 2 FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE HAVE OUR 21ST CENTURY PROGRAMMING.
THESE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL, AND THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE THOSE SAME SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMS AND BRING THEM TO THE SUMMER.
THEN AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, WE'LL HAVE ALGIBLE READINESS TO GET KIDS READY FOR THE EOC. THAT'S A BOOT CAMP.
WE'LL HAVE EOC SUMMER TESTERS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, BRIDGES SUMMER CREDIT RECOVERY, AND TSI CAMP TESTING, TO GET READY FOR THAT TSI.
A LOT OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE GOING TO BE INVITATION ONLY AND THE PRINCIPALS ARE WORKING WITH OUR INSTRUCTIAL SPORTS SPECIALISTS AND TEACHERS TO IDENTIFY THE STUDENTS WHO NEED TO TAKE PART IN SOME OF THESE PROGRAMS. BUT TWO OF THE BIG ONES ON THIS NEXT SLIDE, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE ARE GOING TO BE OPEN TO ANYONE IN THESE H BRACKETS THAT WE'RE REALLY GOING TO BE PROMOTING HEAVILY AND THAT'S OUR FINE ARTS CAMP THAT WILL BE JUNE 11 14TH AT S H CROWLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND THEN OUR GLOBAL LEADERS SEM SUMMER PROGRAM, AND YOU ALL, THIS IS GOING TO BE PHENOMENAL BECAUSE THERE'S ELEMENTARY SESSIONS AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SESSIONS.
IF YOU SIGN UP, YOU GET TO DO ALL TEN OF THOSE DIFFERENT SESSIONS, AND SO IT'S A WIDE VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES FROM CODING, ROBOTICS, DRONES, I MEAN, BUILDING CITIES, IT'S GOING TO BE PHENOMENAL.
THAT IS GOING TO BE FREE FOR CROWLEY ISD STUDENTS TO GRANT FUNDING, AND THERE WILL BE A TUITION OPTION AVAILABLE FOR NON-CIT STUDENTS, BUT WE BELIEVE CROWLEY ST STUDENTS ARE GOING TO FILL THAT UP.
LIKE WE SAID, MISS LAWTON AND I'M SORRY, DR. VALENCIA ARE HERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ABOUT THOSE, BUT THOSE ARE TWO THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE PROMOTING HEAVILY TO GET STUDENTS ENROLLED IN, AND THEN ALSO WORKING WITH OUR CAMPUSES TO GET THOSE TARGETED INVITATIONS OUT.
WE DON'T REALLY EVER SLOW DOWN IN CROWLEY ISD.
SUMMER IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REALLY OFFER SOME ENRICHING ACTIVITIES AND GET KIDS AHEAD AND READY FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT BOARD TO MAKE THESE PROGRAMS HAPPEN.
THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR US. THANK YOU.
>> MISS LATIN, WOULD YOU COME UP AND JUST GIVE US A HIGH-LEVEL OVERVIEW OF THE EXCUSE ME OF THE FINE ARTS CAMP, AND THEN DR. VALENCI I'LL ASK YOU TO COME UP AS WELL.
JUST IN CASE WE HAVE PARENTS OR STUDENTS WATCHING, WE WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT WE ARE ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO SIGN UP AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE WE MAKE PROVISIONS FOR ALL.
WE TALK TO US ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE AND WHAT WE'RE PLANNING, MISS LAWTON.
>> YES. SO GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT BOARD OF TRUSTEES, DR. MCFARLAND.
THIS CAMP IS TRADITIONAL, I BELIEVE IT'S IN ITS 11TH OR 12TH YEAR.
STUDENTS TAKE SIX CLASSES A DAY, THEY'LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT BETWEEN DANCE OR VIDEO AND CHEER OR COMPUTER.
THEY BROUGHT IN DRONES BEFORE, SO WE'VE HAD A LITTLE MIX OF STEM IN THERE AS WELL.
IT IS $140 PER CHAT 155 AND IT'S A FOUR DAY CAMP,
[00:55:07]
WHICH IS A REALLY GREAT PRICE.HOWEVER, THIS IS OUR TRADITIONAL CAMP, BUT NOW WE'RE ALSO WORKING WITH SOME COMPANIES.
THEY'VE SUBMITTED SOME PROPOSALS FOR US.
DR. MCFARLAND AND MISS POKER HAS IDENTIFIED SOME ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDING.
WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS A SECOND ELEMENTARY CAMP AT PROBABLY THE LAST WEEK OF JUNE 1 WEEK OF AUGUST, SO WE'LL GET THAT INFORMATION OUT AS SOON AS WE CAN AFTER WE RESTRUCTURE THAT, BUT IT'LL BE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DR. VALENCIA.
THAT PLANT CAMP WILL BE FREE, AND SO THERE WILL NOT BE ANY TUITION FOR THAT OPPORTUNITY.
WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT ADDING ANOTHER OFFERING FOR OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS AND CROWLEY ISD.
I WOULD LIKE TO SNEAK IN A LITTLE AFRO MODERN DANCE, SOME PERCUSSION, AND SOMETHING REALLY FESTIVE AND FUN THAT CAN TRAVEL AND CREATE SOME SPECTACLE, AND IT'LL BE REALLY EXCITING FOR THE STUDENTS.
THEY'LL GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS.
IN ADDITION TO THAT, YOU GUYS KNOW THAT WE HAVE OUR SECONDARY CAMPS WITH AN AND ALL THOSE THINGS ARE STILL HAPPENING FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND FOR HIGH SCHOOL IF THEY'RE PART OF THOSE ORGANIZATIONS.
ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? DR. BLITZ.
>> GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME HERE THIS AFTERNOON.
YES, WE HAVE OUR GLOBAL LEADERS STEM SUMMER PROGRAM.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
WE HAVE 10 STEM LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO ENGAGE IN.
THE FIRST TWO WEEKS WILL BE FOR ELEMENTARY AND THE SECOND TWO WEEKS WILL BE FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL.
I DO WANT TO HIGHLIGHT OUR VISIONARY WOMEN CIVIL AND ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING CLASS.
THIS IS A GRANT THAT WE RECEIVED.
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE 40, EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS WHO'VE ALREADY CHOSEN A STEM PATHWAY, AND SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED THAT THE INSTRUCTORS THERE ARE GOING TO BE OUR CIVIL ENGINEERING AND OUR ARCHITECTURAL INSTRUCTORS OR TEACHERS AT THE CTE.
THIS IS GOING TO BE AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE FOR THEM.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED BECAUSE THEY GET TO GO TO THREE FIELD TRIPS IN ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING IN DALLAS AND HERE IN FORT WORTH, AND THEN THEY'RE GOING TO BE WORKING ON THEIR PROTOTYPES AS WELL.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED. WE'RE REALLY WORKING HARD TO RETAIN WOMEN IN STEM OR GIRLS IN STEM.
ALSO, IN ADDITION TO THIS, WE DID ALREADY START OUR WOMEN IN STEM IN THE HIGH SCHOOL FROM 9-12TH GRADE.
THEY'RE CALLING THEMSELVES THE SOCIETY OF WOMEN IN STEM.
THEY DID NOT WANT GIRLS IN STEM ANYMORE, THEY'RE WOMEN NOW.
[LAUGHTER] WE HAVE 25 VERY STRONG WOMEN LEADERS.
WE'VE ALREADY PICKED OUR PRESIDENT, AND SO THEY'RE ALSO GOING TO BE VOLUNTEERING DURING THIS STEM CAMP, AND SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED JUST TO SEE MORE WOMEN IN STEM AT THE CTE HERE IN OUR DISTRICT.
BUT ASIDE FROM THAT, WE DO HAVE A REALLY GOOD PROGRAM AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED.
ONCE THIS CAME UP TODAY IN THE WEBSITE, I GOT ABOUT 25 EMAILS FROM PARENTS.
WELL, WE'RE NOT OPENING IT UP, I BELIEVE UNTIL MONDAY, BUT THEY WERE VERY EXCITED, THEY WANTED TO KNOW ALL ABOUT IT, SO I CAN IMAGINE THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ABOUT 200 STUDENTS PER WEEK, SO IT'S GOING TO BE 800 IN TOTAL FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH.
IT'S JUST VERY EXCITING AND ALL OF OUR INSTRUCTORS ARE VERY QUALIFIED IN STEM.
THIS IS GOING TO BE A REALLY GOOD FANTASTIC PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS. YES.
>> DR. VALENCIA MENTIONED THAT WEBSITE, ON OUR NEXT SLIDE, WE'RE GOING TO SHOW YOU A MENU OF ALL THESE OPTIONS.
THE WEBSITE WASN'T EVEN LIVE, BUT PEOPLE WHEN THEY'RE SEARCHING SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES, IT STARTED ALREADY SHOWING UP IN SEARCH ENGINES.
NOW, THIS WILL OFFICIALLY GO LIVE, WE'LL PUT OUT FLYERS AND ALL CALLS AND TEXT MESSAGES SO OUR FAMILIES CAN KNOW ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THERE'S OBVIOUSLY A NEED AND WE KNOW THESE ARE GOING TO FILL UP.
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THEM TO US.
>> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, I WANTED TO REALLY HIGHLIGHT THESE TWO OPPORTUNITIES THIS SUMMER AND REALLY AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO '24 AND BEYOND, WHAT I REALLY WANT TO DO IS BE VERY INTENTIONAL AS A DISTRICT IN REALLY HIGHLIGHTING AND ELEVATING FINE ARTS AND STEM THROUGHOUT EVERYTHING THAT WE DO.
THE REASON IS SIMPLY THIS WE HAVE DONE A STUDY OF TARRANT COUNTY IN THE DFW AREA.
WHEN WE LOOK AT THE 10 MOST AVAILABLE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, THEY ARE CONNECTED TO THE STEM FIELD AND THE FINE ARTS FIELD.
WHAT WE'RE ATTEMPTING TO DO SIMPLY IS TO MAKE STUDENTS AWARE AND USE A SUMMER AS AN AWARENESS OPPORTUNITY, BUT THEN REALLY LAUNCH INTO EXPLORING STEM, FINE ARTS,
[01:00:01]
AND THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THOSE TWO AREAS TO REALLY HELP OUR STUDENTS CONTINUE TO HAVE CHOICES AND OPPORTUNITIES WHEN THEY LEAVE US.IT IS FREE, AS THEY MENTIONED, IT'S FREE, BUT REALLY IT'S NOT FREE.
THE REALITY IS THERE ARE GRANT FUNDING AND WE HAVE PARTNERS THAT HAVE GIVEN MONEY TO OUR DISTRICT TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THESE OPPORTUNITIES.
THESE CAMPS ARE BEING DONE WITHOUT USE OF 199 FUND, BUT WITH GRANT FUNDS AND PARTNER SUPPORT, AND SO WE'RE JUST EXCITED ABOUT IT.
DEFINITELY ENCOURAGE AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN TO ATTEND THESE CAMPS, AND THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SUMMER FOR US IN CROWLEY ISD.
I DID HAVE A QUESTION ON THE FINE ARTS CAMP.
USUALLY, WITH THE OTHER CAMPS, THERE'S A SHOWCASE OR A LITTLE RECITAL.
IS THERE GOING TO BE A PROGRAM AT THE END OF THIS ONE?
>> ABSOLUTELY. THAT'S OUR FAVORITE THING.
THAT'S WHAT WE WORK TOWARDS, SO YES.
THAT'S ALWAYS EMBEDDED IN THE CURRICULUM, WHAT WE PLAN FOR THE STUDENTS TO DO BECAUSE EVERYBODY WANTS TO CELEBRATE THEM AT THE END OF THE WEEK FOR CAMP.
>> WELL, LET US KNOW WHEN THAT IS [OVERLAPPING].
THANK YOU BOTH. THANK YOU. WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.
>> QUICK QUESTION, DR. [INAUDIBLE].
NOT NECESSARILY FOR FINE ARTS, BUT FOR STEM.
YOU SAID THOUGH THE KIDS ARE JUST GOING TO VOLUNTEER, AND I GUESS THAT'S THE CASE WITH BOTH PROGRAMS, RIGHT, THE KIDS WILL?
>> WELL, THESE ARE THE HIGH SCHOOLERS BECAUSE THE PROGRAM HERE IS FROM THIRD TO EIGHTH GRADE.
BUT OUR SOCIETY OF WOMEN IN STEM, WHICH IS OUR WOMEN IN STEM AT THE CTE, THEY'VE ALREADY STARTED TO GET TOGETHER.
THEY WANT TO COME IN AND THEY WANT TO BE ABLE TO ALSO BE AN IMPACT, IF WE WERE TO GO BACK, THERE'S ALSO A GIRLS IN STEM PROGRAM ON THERE.
WE HAVE OTHER, THE YOUNG MEN IN STEM PROGRAM IN THERE AS WELL.
THEY'RE GOING TO BE VOLUNTEERING TO COME IN AND ASSIST US IN, FOR EXAMPLE, ALSO BEING FOR THE VISIONARY WOMEN.
THE HIGH SCHOOLERS ARE GOING TO COME IN AND JUST BE AN EXAMPLE, JUST TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES IN THE CTE STEM EXPERIENCES.
WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO GATHER A VERY STRONG SUPPORT GROUP FOR OUR GIRLS IN STEM. YES.
MR. KIRCHNER, I KNOW WE, LET'S SEE, WE HAVE OPEN FORUM, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE ANY SPEAKERS.
>> YES, MADAM PRESIDENT, WE DID HAVE ONE INDIVIDUAL SIGNED UP.
I'M NOT SURE IF THEY ARE HERE TONIGHT.
I WAS GOING TO SEE IF MS. ANAYA HOLLOWAY IS IN THE ROOM.

I'M CURRENTLY ATTENDING CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AS A SENIOR.
I AM PARTICIPATING IN OUR [INAUDIBLE] PROGRAM AND I HAVE RECEIVED OVER $10,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS WITH THE HELP OF MS. AIMES.
[01:05:03]
TODAY, I AM HERE TO SPEAK ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM AND HOW OVER THE YEARS I'VE BECOME MORE PASSIONATE FOR THE PROGRAM.I'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THE PROGRAM FOR THREE YEARS NOW, AND IN THOSE THREE YEARS OF ME TEACHING THEM LIFE SKILLS, I HAVE LEARNED LIFE SKILLS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO MY LIFE AS WELL.
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE STUDENTS IS PATIENCE, WHICH IS SOMETHING I WOULD CARRY WITH ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.
HAVING THESE STUDENTS IN MY LIFE IS TRULY A GIFT.
ALL OF US HAVE HARD DAYS, DAYS WHERE YOU DON'T WANT TO GET OUT OF BED, DAYS WHERE YOU DON'T WANT TO GO TO WORK, JUST DAYS WHERE YOU'RE NOT FEELING IT.
ONCE I STEP INTO THE LIFE SKILLS CLASSROOM, ALL OF THOSE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS GO AWAY.
IN THE CLASSROOM, IT'S LAUGHS AND SMILES, [INAUDIBLE] POSITIVITY.
HOW COULD YOU BE UPSET IN SUCH A PEACEFUL ENVIRONMENT? SOMEONE ASKED ME TODAY, "HOW DO YOU WORK WITH THOSE KIDS? HOW DO YOU GO IN THERE EVERY DAY AND TALK TO THEM EVERY DAY?" I TOLD THEM THE SAME WAY I INTERACT WITH EVERYONE ELSE.
I TREAT THEM NO DIFFERENT FROM GEN ED.
IN CONCLUSION, I AM HERE TODAY TO NOT ONLY EXPLAIN MY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE STUDENTS, BUT WITH THE TEACHERS AS WELL.
I WANT TO GIVE A THANKS TO MS. O'NEIL, OUR LIFE SKILLS TEACHER, I WANT TO GIVE A THANKS TO MS. [INAUDIBLE] FOR HELPING ME GET MY SPEECH AND EVERYTHING TOGETHER FOR TONIGHT, I WANT TO GIVE A THANKS TO ALL THE SUBS AND ALL THE NURSES THAT WE HAVE IN THE LIFE SKILLS CLASSROOM, I WANT TO GIVE A THANKS TO MR. DAVIS FOR HELPING ME WRITE MY SPEECH, HE'S NOT HERE TODAY, THOUGH, AND I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR HAVING ME TODAY. THANK YOU.
