YES. GO RIGHT AHEAD. I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING, SOUL, S-O-U-L COALITION MEETINGS. SOUL STANDS FOR STANDOUT UNIFIED LEADERS, AND I THINK STUDENTS CAME UP WITH THAT NAME, BUT IT'S A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DISTRICT AND LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS, AND THE COALITION IS COMMITTED TO DEVISING AND EXECUTING COMPREHENSIVE PREVENTIVE STRATEGIES THAT EMPOWER OUR STUDENTS. I HAVE BEEN VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE AGENDAS AND THE MEETINGS THAT I'VE BEEN ATTENDING, AND THE WHOLE IDEA IS THAT TOGETHER WE CAN FORGE A PATH TOWARDS A HEALTHIER, MORE RESILIENT COMMUNITY. >> THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVANT LEADERSHIP. DR. MCCARTHY. >> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, SINCE MS. DAVIS SHARED THAT ITEM, I'D LIKE TO JUST ACKNOWLEDGE OUR DIRECTOR OF NURSING SERVICES, MS. STEVE VAN CAMPEN. VAN CAMPEN FOR MAKING THESE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE FOR OUR STUDENTS. >> WONDERFUL. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND. I WANT TO SHOUT OUT ONE MORE THING. I'M SORRY. THIS IS FUN. [00:15:06] I'VE SPENT THE LAST TWO WEEKENDS VOLUNTEERING AT THE WELMAN PROJECT, WHICH IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND CLASSROOM SUPPLIES FOR EDUCATORS AND NONPROFIT WORKERS HERE TARRANT COUNTY. I BUMPED INTO MS. ARRIANA JEFFERSON SHOPPING ON SATURDAY, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS ASTOUNDING BECAUSE THAT WAS THE FIRST DAY AFTER SCHOOL WAS OUT, AND SHE WAS SHOPPING FOR HER CLASSROOM. I WANT TO SHOUT HER OUT IN BEING A DEDICATED EDUCATOR AND DEDICATED TO CROWLEY ISD AND I ALSO WANT TO ENCOURAGE ALL THE EDUCATORS TO ENJOY YOUR SUMMER, GET SOME REST, RELAX, RESTORE. AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE STARTING SUMMER, BUT WE ALSO PREPARING TO OPEN UP THE SCHOOL YEAR FOR 24/25. I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU JUST A BRIEF UPDATE. WE, END OF THE YEAR, ARE AT RIGHT AT 17,200 STUDENTS. TODAY, WE HAVE 1,053 NEW STUDENT APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN PROCESSED. WE'VE CLOSED THE FIRST ROUND OF TRANSFER REQUESTS, AND THOSE WILL BE OPENED UP AGAIN IN JULY. WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE KNOW THAT OUR NUMBERS ARE CONTINUING TO GROW. WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT THAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR AREA. AS YOU KNOW, THE KARIS SCHOOL, NOW KNOWN AS CROWLEY MONTESSORI ACADEMY, WILL BE OPENING IN JULY FOR OPEN HOUSE, AND SO WE'LL LET YOU ALL KNOW ABOUT THAT. WE HOPEFULLY WILL HAVE THE PERMIT TO START WALK-THROUGHS IN JUNE. WE'LL FOLLOW UP WITH YOU BOARD AND GET YOU A CHANCE TO WALK THROUGH THE BUILDING. ELEMENTARY 17, IF YOU DRIVE AROUND OVER BY ALLIE MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOU'LL SEE THAT ELEMENTARY 17 IS UNDERWAY. WE ARE ALREADY MOVING THE DIRT THERE AND GETTING READY FOR OPENING ELEMENTARY 17. THEN AT BOTH CROWLEY HIGH AND NORTH CROWLEY, YOU'LL START TO SEE SOME WORK HAPPENING. THEN FENCING PROJECTS ARE ONGOING THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. IT'S EXCITING TO SEE OUR DISTRICT CONTINUING TO GROW. A LOT OF DISTRICTS ARE ACTUALLY CLOSING SCHOOLS, BUT WE ARE ACTUALLY OPENING SCHOOLS AND RENOVATING. WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. THE GROWTH IS EXCITING TO WATCH. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE WORKING REALLY HARD. THANK YOU, MS. BATISTE FOR LEADING THE ENROLLMENT TEAM AND MS. HYATT. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER GREAT YEAR WITH DEFINITELY LARGE NUMBER OF STUDENTS, AND SO WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON WHERE WE ARE WITH THAT. THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR TODAY. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND. IT IS GOOD NEWS. ALL OF US, WE'RE PRIVY TO SOME OF THE NEWS AROUND THE METROPLEX OF WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OTHER DISTRICTS, SO WE ARE FORTUNATE, AND I FEEL WE'RE BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A DIFFERENT STORY. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND, FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP, AND THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS, AND TEACHERS, STAFF FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN. I APPRECIATE EVERYONE. AT THIS TIME, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO OUR RECOGNITION ITEM. [6.0 Recognition Item(s)] THIS IS AGENDA ITEM 6.1, ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY TEACHERS OF THE YEAR. DR. MCFARLAND? MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KIRCHNER IS PREPARED TO PRESENT THIS ITEM. MR. KIRCHNER? MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND, THIS PRESENTATION AND RECOGNITION ALIGNS WITH GOAL 3, EMPOWERED STAFF. WE KNOW THAT CROWLEY ISD IS FILLED WITH PHENOMENAL EDUCATORS. EVERY YEAR, EACH CAMPUS HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT ONE TEACHER OF THE YEAR. EACH OF THOSE CAMPUS TEACHERS OF THE YEAR THEN COMPETE AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL, AND THERE WILL BE ONE ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND ONE SECONDARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR THAT WILL THEN GO ON TO REPRESENT CROWLEY ISD AT THE REGION 11 COMPETITION, AND FROM THERE AT THE STATE, AND SO ON. WE HAD THE HONOR TO SURPRISE THIS YEAR'S TWO WINNERS THE LAST TIME WE WERE TOGETHER AT OUR ALL-STAR CELEBRATION. YOU'RE GOING TO GET TO MEET THEM AGAIN TONIGHT. BUT FIRST, WE WANTED YOU TO WATCH THIS VIDEO TO HEAR FROM THE PRINCIPALS ABOUT WHAT MAKES THEM PHENOMENAL EDUCATORS HERE IN CROWLEY ISD. CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO. HI, I'M WHITNEY RUIZ, AND I TEACH PRE-K HERE AT SUE CROUCH ELEMENTARY. I'M EXCITED TO BE CROWLEY ISD ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR. CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFIED. MS. RUIZ IS OUR PRE-K TEACHER. THIS IS HER SECOND YEAR IN CROWLEY, SECOND YEAR TEACHING. I BELIEVE THAT MS. RUIZ IS MOST DESERVING BECAUSE OF HER INTENTIONALITY, HER SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS, AND JUST BECAUSE SHE'S DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GO OVER AND BEYOND TO MAKE SURE HER STUDENTS ARE PREPARED FOR KINDERGARTEN. 98, 99, 100. [00:20:01] I HAVE PARENTS LINE UP TO BE IN HER CLASS. HER COMMUNICATION IS TOP NOTCH, WHETHER IT'S ON THE PHONE, WHETHER IT'S CLASS DOJO, SHE KEEPS THEM IN THE LOOP OF EVERYTHING, AND SO PARENTS ARE PLEASED WITH HER AND HER AID, AND ALL THAT THEIR KIDS HAVE LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WHEN I WALK INTO MS. RUIZ'S CLASS, I SAY, "WHAT'S HAPPENING TODAY? WHAT FUN STUFF DO YOU HAVE HAPPENING?" SHE TIES IN SO MANY GREAT ACTIVITIES WITH THEMES TO SUPPORT STUDENTS. THEY GREW GRASS THIS YEAR AND CUPS WITH THEIR BEAUTIFUL FACES. I JUST LOOK FORWARD TO ALL THE ACTIVITIES AND THE LEARNING THEY HAVE FOR THAT DAY BECAUSE SHE'S GOING TO MAKE IT ENGAGING AND FUN. THIS IS MS. RUIZ FROM SUE CROUCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. SHE THE CAMPUS TEACHER OF THE YEAR. CROWLEY ISD ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR THE ENTIRE. I'M SO PROUD OF MS. RUIZ TO SEE THE GROWTH, HER EXCITEMENT FOR WHAT SHE DOES. THIS IS JUST AN EXCITING MOMENT FOR HER, HER STUDENTS, HER AIDING HER CLASS. I KNOW THAT THIS IS JUST THE START OF SO MANY GREAT THINGS TO HAPPEN ON HER EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY. HI, MY NAME IS SONNY CORIANO. I'M THE ENGLISH SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHER AT H.F. STEVENS MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND I AM CROWLEY ISD'S SECONDARY LEVEL TEACHER OF THE YEAR. CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFIED. MR. CORIANO IS OUR NEWCOMER TEACHER. AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, EVERY STUDENT WHO COMES TO CROWLEY ISD WHO WAS IN THE FIRST OR SECOND YEAR IN THE UNITED STATES WILL COME TO OUR CAMPUS. MR. CORIANO AND HIS TEAM ARE CHARGED WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION FOR THOSE STUDENTS. IN ADDITION TO TEACHING ENGLISH IN THE CLASSROOM, HE ALSO WILL GO TO THE CLASSES WITH THE STUDENTS TO DO IN-CLASS SUPPORT FOR OTHER SUBJECTS: MATH, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES, ETC. WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO COME INTO OUR PROGRAM WITH ZERO ENGLISH, AND BY THE END OF THAT FIRST YEAR, THEY'RE CONVERSATIONAL, THEY CAN COMMUNICATE, THEY'RE JUST WORKING MAGIC. OF COURSE, MR. CORIANO SPEAKS ENGLISH AND SPANISH, BUT THEY'RE NOT ALL SPANISH SPEAKING STUDENTS. WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO SPEAK IN CHINESE. WE HAVE STUDENTS IN THE PAST WHO SPOKE IN ARABIC, IN FRENCH. HE IS DEFINITELY CHANGING STUDENTS' LIVES BECAUSE HE'S OPENING UP OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO BROADEN THEIR OWN HORIZON. YOU WON'T FIND A MORE CARING PERSON. WE ALL KNOW THE SAYING, THE KIDS DON'T CARE WHAT YOU KNOW UNTIL THEY KNOW THAT YOU CARE. HE TRULY EXEMPLIFIES THAT, THEY KNOW THAT HE CARES ABOUT THEM. A GOOD EXAMPLE IS, LAST YEAR WE HAD SOME BAD WEATHER DAYS, WE WERE OUT. MR. CORIANO CONTACTED THE PARENTS OF HIS STUDENTS, AND SET UP ZOOM MEETINGS SO THAT THE STUDENTS WOULD NOT LOSE ANY OF THEIR PROGRESS OVER THAT EXTENDED TIME. HE WORKED FOR ALMOST EVERY SATURDAY SCHOOL THAT WE HAVE, HE WORKED AFTER SCHOOL, OR HE'LL GO TO THE SOCCER GAMES THAT THE KIDS HAVE. THE WHOLE CREW, MR. CORIANO AND HIS TWO PARENTS, GO OUT AND SUPPORT THOSE KIDS THERE. HE'S A FAMILY MEMBER TOO OF OUR MUSIC STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. ALL RIGHT, LET'S SHARE A LITTLE MORE TIME FOR MR. CORIANO. HE'S THE CAMPUS TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND HE IS ALSO THE SECONDARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR. I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF VERY TALENTED AND ENGAGED AND ENGAGING TEACHERS. BUT I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT MR. CORIANO BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE JUST GIVES YOU 360 DEGREES SUPPORT FOR OUR STUDENTS. I THINK THAT HE HAS AN OUTSTANDING CHOICE FOR THIS RECOGNITION. [MUSIC] [APPLAUSE] >> WHAT WAS REALLY EXCITING ABOUT THOSE VIDEOS IS THAT GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO PUT A SPOTLIGHT ON TWO REALLY PHENOMENAL PROGRAMS, WE OFFER CROWLEY ISD WITH EARLY CHILDHOOD FOR OUR PRE-K LEARNERS AND ALSO OUR NEWCOMERS ACADEMY. BUT OUR PROGRAMS AREN'T ANYTHING WITHOUT THE PEOPLE BEHIND THEM. AND SO I WANTED TO CONGRATULATE AGAIN, THESE TWO PHENOMENAL EDUCATORS, GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO SAY ANY WORDS THEY'D LIKE TO TO THE BOARD, AND THEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHAKE HANDS AND CONGRATULATE YOU PERSONALLY. I'LL START WITH MS. RUIZ. >> HELLO. SORRY, I'M A LITTLE NERVOUS. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE RECOGNITION. [00:25:01] IT'S A HUGE HONOR, ESPECIALLY WITH IT BEING MY SECOND YEAR OF TEACHING. I NEVER THOUGHT THAT THAT WOULD BE POSSIBLE. HONESTLY, JUST EARLY CHILDHOOD IS MY PASSION. IT'S WHAT I DO. I LOVE EARLY CHILDHOOD. I LOVE THE LITTLES, AND JUST GETTING TO COME TO WORK WITH THEM EVERY DAY AND JUST BEING THAT PERSON FOR THEM IS JUST A BLESSING AND A HUGE PASSION OF MINE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> WONDERFUL. [APPLAUSE] >> GOOD EVENING. I'M VERY HONORED. I GET A EMOTIONAL. BECAUSE THESE CASES ARE EVERYTHING TO ME. WHEN YOU SEE THEM IN AUGUST, ALL SCARED, BRIAN, I DON'T KNOW THE LANGUAGE. AND I'D BE LIKE, I WISH YOU 10 YEARS AGO, AND NOW I'M YOUR TEACHER. IF I GO, YOU CAN. THE FIRST THING YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE OUT OF YOUR MIND IS NO, BECAUSE YOU CAN AND YOU WILL. THEY'RE MY PURPOSE, THEY'RE MY LIFE, AND I'M VERY HONORED TO WORK WITH CROWLEY ISD. THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] >> BOARD AND FEEL FREE AS THEY COME AROUND, IF YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS TO MAKE, PLEASE DO SO. I LIKE THE STATEMENT THEY CAN AND THEY WILL. THANK YOU AGAIN. MR. KIRCHNER SAID, THESE PROGRAMS WOULDN'T BE SUCCESSFUL WITHOUT THE LEADERS LEADING THEM. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PASSION, AS YOU'VE STATED, AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR CARE. REALLY APPRECIATE YOU. AT THIS TIME, I KNOW, EVEN WITH THAT BEING SAID, YOU HAVE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN IN YOUR CORNER, WE REALIZE THAT. IF YOU HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS OR STAFF HERE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE DO THAT OR IF YOU'RE AT ONE OF THE SCHOOLS WHERE THESE HONORABLE INDIVIDUALS WORK, FEEL FREE TO STAND, BUT PLEASE BE RECOGNIZED AT THIS TIME. [LAUGHTER] [APPLAUSE] >> I WANT TO RECOGNIZE MS. RUIZ, SHE WAS MY MENTOR IN MY FIRST YEAR, AND WE WORK TOGETHER TO SUPPORT OUR NEIGHBORING KIDS. SHE'S AMAZING SUPPORT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH MS. RUIZ. >> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] AWESOME. THANK YOU. CONTINUE DOING GREAT WORK. WE APPRECIATE YOU. ALL RIGHT. BOARD MEMBERS, ANY OTHER DIVISIONAL COMMENTS? THANK YOU AGAIN. WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR REPORT ITEMS, [7.0 Report Item(s)] AGENDA ITEM 7.1, WHICH IS THE T3 TARRANT TO & THROUGH PARTNERSHIP MID YEAR IMPACT REPORT, DR. MCFARLAND. >> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT REPORT. AS YOU ALL ARE AWARE, WE HAVE A STRONG PARTNERSHIP WITH THE T3 ORGANIZATION. DR. WRIGHT, AND ALSO MS. LANE HAS BEEN LEADING UP THIS INITIATIVE IN OUR DISTRICT, AND SO I BELIEVE THAT MS. LANE WILL BE MAKING THIS PRESENTATION. MS. LANE. >> GOOD EVENING, DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT AND DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. TONIGHT, I HAVE THE DISTINCT PLEASURE OF INTRODUCING OUR PRESENTER. DR. NATALIE YOUNG WILLIAMS JOINED THE TARRANT COUNTY TO & THROUGH PARTNERSHIP AS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN 2022. THE T3 PARTNERSHIP FOUNDED IN 2020 IS A DYNAMIC LEADER IN BRIDGING THE HIGH SCHOOL TO HIGHER EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE GAP BY LEVERAGING ITS STRONG AND EFFECTIVE PARTNERSHIPS TO CREATE LIFE CHANGING POST SECONDARY PATHWAYS AND SUPPORTS FOR TARRANT COUNTY STUDENTS. DR. WILLIAMS HAS APPLIED HER PASSION FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, SHARP VISIONARY INTELLECT, AND DEDICATION TO ORGANIZATIONAL SUCCESS TO LEADING T3'S TALENTED TEAM AND STEWARDING THE ORGANIZATION THROUGH KEY MILESTONES, INCLUDING EXPANDING INTO ADDITIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITHIN TARRANT COUNTY, INCLUDING CROWLEY ISD, LAUNCHING T3 PATHWAYS TO CAREER PLATFORMS, DEVELOPING A NETWORK OF WORKFORCE PARTNERS IN PRIMARY INDUSTRIES ACROSS NORTH TEXAS, [00:30:06] AND GROWING T3 STAFF FROM 14 STAFF MEMBERS TO NOW 44. NOW, IN A CRITICAL ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH STAGE, DR. WILLIAMS'S LONG TERM GOALS AND VISION FOR T3 ARE GUIDED BY HER FOUNDATIONAL BELIEF THAT EVERY STUDENT SHOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE AND SHAPE THEIR DESTINY. UNDER HER LEADERSHIP, T3 IS TURNING DREAMS INTO TANGIBLE REALITIES AND DELIVERING ON ITS MISSIONS TO EMPOWER TARRANT COUNTY STUDENTS TO EXPLORE THEIR EDUCATION AND CAREER HORIZONS AND DESIGN A PATHWAY THAT PREPARES THEM TO THRIVE IN THE WORKFORCE. DR. WILLIAMS, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO. >> MADAM PRESIDENT, DR. MCFARLAND, DISTINGUISHED BOARD OF TRUSTEES. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE ONE OF MY PASSIONS AND ALL OF THE AMAZING WORK THAT IS OCCURRING WITH STUDENTS HERE IN CROWLEY ISD. WITHOUT ME STARTING IT OFF, I'D LIKE YOU ALL TO SEE FOR YOURSELVES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF OUR STUDENTS. >> IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE FUTURE [INAUDIBLE]. IT REALLY IS. DOCTOR, WELDER, ENGINEER OR [INAUDIBLE]. BUT WHERE YOU START? WHEN DO YOU START? HOW YOU DO YOU GET THERE? FROM HERE. [MUSIC] BY THE TIME OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL ARE WAITING TO GET IN THE WORK, NEARLY THREE OUT OF FOUR JOBS IN TEXAS WILL REQUIRE A DEGREE OR CERTIFICATION. SKILL TRADE JOBS LIKE [INAUDIBLE] WELDING AND ELECTRICIANS ARE HIGH PAYING AND HIGH DEMAND, AND EXPECTED TO GROW OF NEXT DECADE. THE T3 PATHWAY TO CAREERS PLATFORM ALLOW STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO EXPLORE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES STARTING IN MIDDLE OPENING THE DOOR TO POSSIBILITIES AND PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH THE CAREER PATH TOWARDS RIGHT FUTURE. WITH T3 PATHWAY TO CAREERS, YOU CAN EXPLORE CAREER PLATFORM IN MORE THAN 60 PROGRAM OF STUDY. COMPARE CAREER PATHWAY THAT MATCH SKILLS, INTEREST, AND SOLID GOALS, LEARN WHAT STEP TO TAKE INDUSTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATION AND DEGREES. IDENTIFY CAREER PATH THAT SUPPORTS THE LIFE STYLE YOU WANT. [INAUDIBLE] EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. IT'S TIME TO BRING CLARITY TO THE MANY OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO EVERY STUDENT TARRANT COUNTY. TAKE THE FIRST STEP WITH YOUR SCHOOL T3 PATHWAYS TO CAREERS. BECAUSE OF WHERE YOU ARE, YOU CAN GO AS FAR AS YOU WANT. THE FUTURE YOURS [INAUDIBLE] CHOOSES. TAKE THE FIRST AT T3PATHWAYSTOCAREERS.ORG. [MUSIC] >> IT'S HARD TO FOLLOW THE CELEBRATION OF THE OUTSTANDING TEACHERS. I THINK THERE'S NO BETTER WAY TO FOLLOW THAT THAN HIGHLIGHTING THE STUDENTS. THOSE ARE CROWLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THE VIDEO WAS SHOT AT THE BILL R. JOHNSON CTE CENTER. SO YOU SHOULD SEE ALL OF THOSE CLASSROOMS VIBRANTLY SHOWCASED THERE. THAT'S THE VIDEO THAT WILL BE THE CORNERSTONE IN THE FOCUS OF OUR T3 PATHWAYS TO CAREERS PLATFORM AND IT'S DESIGNED TO INSPIRE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO RECOGNIZE AND KNOW THAT THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND IT STARTS RIGHT HERE IN CROWLEY ISD. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE PARTNERSHIP, THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE ALL OF THE GREAT WORK THAT'S OCCURRING HERE AND TO INVEST IN THE STUDENTS AND THE PROGRAMS. SO WITH THAT, I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT JUST THE SUCCESSES THAT WE'VE HAD AND OPEN IT FOR ANY QUESTIONS AT ANY POINT ALONG THE WAY. IF YOU WANT ME TO STOP OR PAUSE, FEEL FREE TO INTERRUPT. BUT T3, THE CORE MISSION AND THE CORE GOAL AND FOUNDATION IS TO BRIDGE THOSE FOUR KEY GAPS, AND YOU SEE THEM THERE. IT'S INFORMATION, EXPECTATIONS, GUIDANCE, AND FINANCIAL AID. THE COMMUNICATION GAPS AND THE INFORMATION AND EXPECTATION GAPS, PART OF THE T3 PATHWAYS TO CAREERS PLATFORM IS DESIGNED TO DO THAT TO SHOWCASE ALL THE POSSIBILITIES AND GIVE PARENTS AND FAMILIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO NAVIGATE THAT. WE RECOGNIZE THAT 100% OF THE STUDENTS MAY NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR AN INTERNSHIP OR APPRENTICESHIP AND MANY STUDENTS MAY NOT HAVE EXPOSURE AND IT FEELS A LITTLE BIT OVERWHELMING WITH ALL THE POSSIBILITIES. WE WANT THE PLATFORM TO BE A PLACE TO EXPLORE, TO START THAT EXPLORATION PROCESS AND OPEN THE WINDOW OF ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO SEE THEMSELVES IN THEIR FUTURE RIGHT HERE IN CROWLEY. IN TERMS OF OUR VALUES AND OUR RELATIONSHIPS, WE VALUE THE RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR DISTRICTS. IT IS A TRUE PARTNERSHIP. WHAT YOU'LL HEAR WOVEN THROUGHOUT THIS PRESENTATION IT'S THAT DEEPENING COLLABORATION. WE WORK VERY CLOSELY WITH THE TEAMS ON THE GROUND, DR. WRIGHT, MS. LANE. [00:35:01] THEY ARE OUR PARTNERS TO ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND THAT THEY REACH THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL. NEXT SLIDE. WHEN WE THINK ABOUT OUR PROGRAM IMPACT AND OUR ENGAGEMENT, WE HAVE SIGNIFICANT ENGAGEMENT WITH OUR ADVISORS THAT ARE HERE ON CAMPUS, SUPPORTING BOTH THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILY ALLIANCE TEAM THAT SUPPORTS OUTREACH WITH PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. NINETY TWO PERCENT OF CROWLEY ISD SENIORS HAVE TAKEN THE T3 PLEDGE, WHICH IS A COMMITMENT IN WORKING WITH AN ADVISOR TO TAKE THAT NEXT STEP FOR THEIR FUTURE, COMMITTING TO COMPLETING FAFSA, COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS, CREDENTIALS, OWNING THEIR FUTURE RIGHT HERE AT CROWLEY ISD. THE T3 PLEDGE TRULY EMPOWERS STUDENTS TO COMMIT TO THAT POST SECONDARY JOURNEY. IN TERMS OF OUR IMPACT OVERALL, WE HAVE CONNECTED WITH AND REACHED 22,000 STUDENTS SINCE OUR INCEPTION ACROSS TARRANT COUNTY JUST THIS YEAR. NEXT SLIDE. HERE IS THE EXCITING PART. THERE'S SOME GREAT WORK THAT IS HAPPENING HERE IN CROWLEY ISD AS A PART OF OUR PARTNERSHIP. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO HIGHLIGHT IS FAFSA COMPLETION. MANY OF YOU ARE AWARE THAT THERE'S BEEN SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES WITH INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS BEING ABLE TO COMPLETE FAFSA AND REALLY DETERMINING WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE THE FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO COMPLETE THEIR POST SECONDARY SUCCESS AND JOURNEY. CROWLEY ISD IS OUTPACING THE STATE. THE STATE AVERAGE COMPLETION IS 52%, CROWLEY ISD IS AT 76%. THE ADVISORS THAT WE'LL TALK ABOUT WORK SPECIFICALLY WITH SENIORS IN HIGH SCHOOL TO ENSURE NOT ONLY THEY'RE COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, BUT THEY'RE ALSO COMPLETING FAFSA. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THOSE AREAS THAT ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW, THOSE ARE THE AREAS WHERE WE'VE ALREADY EXCEEDED THE GOAL THAT WE HAD ESTABLISHED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE TEAM. THEN WHEN WE LOOK AT ADMISSION, THAT WILL BE DETERMINED AFTER CENSUS DATE. WE'LL KNOW THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN ADMITTED IN OUR PARTNER COLLEGES AND INSTITUTIONS AND THEN WE'LL ALSO BE ABLE TO HAVE THE REALIZED ENROLLMENT NUMBERS AS WELL. NEXT SLIDE. WHEN WE TALK ABOUT INVESTMENT AND WE TALK ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP, IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT, YES, WE COME WITH STAFF AND THERE IS AN INVESTMENT ON BOTH SIDES. T3 RECOGNIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF STANDING UP, ADDITIONAL SUPPORT AND RESOURCES. WE WORK TO FUNDRAISE AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PHILANTHROPY. WHAT YOU SEE THERE IN THE 180,490, THOSE ARE FUNDS THAT WE'VE ACTUALLY RAISED AS A PART OF OUR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION TO INVEST INTO CROWLEY ISD THROUGH STAFFING, THROUGH OTHER RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT THE WORK THAT WE ARE DOING. YOU'LL ALSO SEE T3 PHILANTHROPY AS A PART OF OUR RAINWATER CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. WHEN WE ASKED THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND TO OTHER DISTRICTS, OUR FIRST DISTRICT WAS FORT WORTH ISD, OUR SECOND DISTRICT WAS CROWLEY ISD. WE SAW THE POTENTIAL HERE AND THERE WERE A LOT OF THINGS THAT MAKE THIS DISTRICT AND THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS UNIQUE. WE ASKED RAINWATER TO EXPAND OUR PROGRAM MODEL AND INVEST WITH US IN THAT EXPANSION AND SO THEY HAVE INVESTED AS WELL. IN TERMS OF THE CROWLEY ISD INVESTMENT, YOU SEE THE SEVEN TCU COLLEGE ADVISING CORE MEMBERS. THEY'RE ALSO PART OF THE T3 TEAM. WE PROVIDE THE TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. CROWLEY ISD INVESTS IN HALF THE COST OF THE STAFFING FOR THOSE SEVEN ADVISORS AND THROUGH RAINWATER CHARITABLE FOUNDATION, THEY MATCH THE OTHER PIECE. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE TOTAL PROGRAM INVESTMENT, IT'S 520,000 AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT WHAT T3 IS PROVIDING AND SUPPORT TO THE DISTRICT, IT'S A LITTLE MORE THAN 350,000. THAT'S JUST THE INVESTMENT INTO THE DISTRICT TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAMS AND OUR SUCCESS AND OUTCOMES. WE ALSO INVEST IN COLLEGE SUCCESS STAFFING AND YOU'LL SEE THE IMPACT OF THAT IN JUST A MOMENT. BUT WE SUPPORT PERSISTENCE OF ALL OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE ATTENDING OUR EIGHT PARTNER INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION WITH DEDICATED STAFF MEMBERS TO ENSURE THAT THEY PERSIST AND COMPLETE. AS SOON AS THEY FINISH WITH CROWLEY ISD, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE MANAGE AND SUPPORT THAT TRANSITION ON INTO COLLEGE. IN THE NEXT SLIDE, PERFECT QUEUED UP, YOU'LL SEE THAT THERE ARE CURRENTLY 2023 GRADS OR THOSE STUDENTS THAT HAVE TAKEN THE PLEDGE IN COLLEGE, THERE'S 327 OF THOSE STUDENTS. YOU CAN SEE THE DISTRIBUTION OF THOSE STUDENTS AT OUR EIGHT PARTNER INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE IS THAT T3 HAS NEGOTIATED PARTNERSHIPS WITH EACH OF THOSE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS WHO MEET CERTAIN INCOME THRESHOLDS CAN ATTEND COLLEGE TUITION FREE. I WANT TO POINT OUT A COUPLE OF REALLY NOTABLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS. YOU'LL NOTICE YOU HAVE EIGHT STUDENTS THAT ARE ATTENDING TCU. THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE ATTENDING TCU NOT ONLY HAVE THEIR TUITION COVERED AND PAID FOR, [00:40:01] THEY ALSO HAVE ROOM AND BOARD. SO THAT'S A PART OF THE PARTNERSHIP WITH T3 AND PROVIDING THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO T3 SCHOLARS WHO ATTEND THOSE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. CHARLTON HAS ALSO INCREASED THEIR CONTRIBUTION THROUGH THEIR CHARLTON PROMISE PROGRAM. THE INCOME THRESHOLD IS 85,000 FOR A FAMILY. ANY FAMILY MEMBER THAT EARNS LESS THAN 85,000, THEY COMMIT TO THAT PROMISE OF ENSURING THAT THOSE STUDENTS CAN ATTEND TUITION FREE AND WITH THE OPENING OF THE CAMPUS THAT'S NOT TOO FAR FROM HERE, IT CREATES A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION. UTA HAS DONE SOMETHING SIMILAR IN TERMS OF INCREASING THEIR OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND THEN TCC, T3 ACTUALLY HAS INCREASED THAT COMBINED INCOME TO OVER 100,000 SO THAT WE CAN SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES THAT HAVE LARGE FAMILIES TO ATTEND TCC, AND SO WE INVEST THOSE FUNDS AS WELL. WHEN WE COME TO THE DISTRICT IT'S WITH SUPPORT, IT'S WITH RESOURCES, BUT IT'S ALSO WITH PARTNERSHIP. WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE SUCCESS AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE CONTRIBUTING TO THAT SUCCESS IN VERY MEANINGFUL AND TANGIBLE WAYS. IF WE GO BACK FOR ONE MOMENT, I DO WANT TO BRING UP DR. TITUS. DR. TITUS IS CHAMPIONING ALL OF OUR WORK FROM POST SECONDARY TO COLLEGE SUCCESS AND HE HAS SOME GREAT UPDATES IN TERMS OF PERSISTENCE FOR THE STUDENTS THAT ARE HERE ATTENDING OUR INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. DR. TITUS. >> THANK YOU AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE TIME. WE WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE CROWLEY STUDENTS THAT ARE IN HIGHER EDUCATION RIGHT NOW ARE ABLE TO BE RETAINED AT AN 81% RATE GOING FROM THE FALL TO SPRING SEMESTER. AS WE'RE GETTING IN, WE'RE CREATING COLLEGE GOING CULTURES AND WORKING WITH STUDENTS THAT SHARES A GREAT COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITIES, BUT REALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE STUDENT'S WORK. THEY THEMSELVES ARE THE BEST INDICATOR OF THEIR OWN SUCCESS. YOU HAVE 100% RETENTION AT TCU. A LOT OF THE AREAS WHERE THERE'S MAYBE BIGGER GAPS IN THE RETENTION EFFORTS LIKE A TCC, SOME OF THOSE ARE INTENTIONAL AND WE'RE ABOUT TO GET GRADUATION DATA THAT WILL ALLOW US TO CELEBRATE FOLKS. THEY'RE ABLE TO ENGAGE IN TCC AND NOT BE THERE FOR TOO TERRIBLY LONG BECAUSE THEY ALREADY FOUND SUCCESS. I THINK YOU SHOULD BE VERY ECSTATIC ABOUT THAT 81% NUMBER. IT'S A GOOD WAY TO START, BUT IT'S ALSO GOOD ROOM FOR GROWTH AS WE CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER. >> AND IT'S DR. TITUS'S TEAM THAT WORKS WITH THE STUDENTS. WE HAVE STAFF MEMBERS THAT ARE ASSIGNED, WE HAVE STUDENT AMBASSADORS, YOU SAW SOME OF THOSE IN THE VIDEO, THAT ARE HELPING TO CONNECT STUDENTS CREATE THAT SENSE OF BELONGING. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE KNOW IS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES IN STAFF MEMBERS AT INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. SOME OF THOSE CHANGES IN STAFF MEMBERS WERE INDIVIDUAL DEPARTMENTS OR AREAS WHERE STUDENTS FOUND THAT SENSE OF BELONGING. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KEEP THAT CONNECTION BY HAVING STUDENT AMBASSADORS HAVING OUR STAFF MEMBERS THERE TO CREATE THAT STRONG CONNECTION AND BELONGING AMONGST THE COHORTS OF STUDENTS THAT ARE ATTENDING. CROWLEY ISD STUDENTS WHO ARE ATTENDING THESE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION ARE COMING TOGETHER AND CREATING THEIR OWN UNIQUE SENSE OF BELONGING SO THAT WILL CONTINUE THEIR SUCCESS. >> WE CONTINUE TO POUR INTO INVESTING IN CROWLEY ISD, THE FORT WORTH MAYORS COUNCIL UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF MAYOR MATTIE PARKER AND TOM HARRIS FROM ALLIANCE. HE'S BEEN THERE FOR OVER 30 YEARS. HE'S A TRUE CHAMPION OF CONNECTING STUDENTS TO FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT, EITHER UPON HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION OR COLLEGE. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IN PARTNERSHIP IS HOW CAN WE SUPPORT STUDENTS AND SEEING THAT THEIR PATHWAY TO A FAMILY SUSTAINING WAGE JOB ACTUALLY CAN OCCUR IN HIGH SCHOOL IF THEY FEEL THAT THAT IS THAT NEXT STEP THAT THEY NEED TO TAKE. ADVISORS DO SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. WE DON'T START OUT BY SAYING, WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO COLLEGE OR DICTATING OR PRESCRIBING THE JOURNEY FOR THE STUDENT. WE ASK THEM FIRST, HOW DO YOU WANT TO LIVE AND HOW DO YOU ENVISION YOUR FUTURE? WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? WHAT'S INTERESTING IS SOME OF THE STUDENTS WILL SAY, I DON'T KNOW HOW I WANT TO LIVE. HOW DO YOU FIGURE OUT HOW YOU WANT TO LIVE? WE START WITH THEM TAKING THE TEXAS REALITY CHECK. LET'S FIGURE OUT HOW YOU BUILD THIS LIFESTYLE THAT YOU WANT AND WHAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE TO GET YOU THERE. IT'LL RANGE ANYWHERE FROM DEPENDING UPON ALL OF THE THINGS THAT THEY WANT TO HAVE, NEW CAR, THEIR OWN APARTMENT, STUDIO APARTMENT. THEY'LL GET A CHANCE TO BUILD THAT AND SEE THAT AND IT CAN RANGE ANYWHERE 41-75,000. BUT THEY'RE ABLE TO SEE HOW THE CHOICES THAT THEY MAKE AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THEY HAVE RIGHT HERE CAN CONNECT THEM TO THEIR FUTURE. THERE'S NOTHING MORE BEAUTIFUL TO SEE FROM A STUDENT THAT YOU MEAN THE CREDENTIAL OR CERTIFICATION THAT I GET IN HIGH SCHOOL CAN SET ME UP FOR THIS LIFESTYLE THAT I'VE JUST DESIGNED. YES. HERE ARE THE CHOICES THAT WILL GET YOU THERE. THAT'S THE EXCITING PART FOR THE ADVISORS AND THAT'S THE MOTIVATION. WE KNOW THAT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE COMMITTED TO IS ENSURING MORE HB3 OUTCOMES FUNDING COMES BACK TO THE DISTRICT, [00:45:04] MORE STUDENTS ARE BEING TSI MET, THEY'RE COMPLETING CERTIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS. BUT IF YOU START TALKING TO THEM ABOUT TSI AND CREDENTIALS AND GOING TO COLLEGE WITHOUT CONNECTING IT TO WHAT THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND THEIR DREAMS, THOSE ARE POWERFUL MOTIVATORS. YOU HAVE A STUDENT THAT SAYS, I'M NOT GOING TO COLLEGE. IT'S LIKE, OKAY, WELL, LET'S PUT THAT ON PAUSE FOR A SECOND. HOW DO YOU WANT TO LIVE? WHAT'S THE LIFESTYLE YOU WANT? MAYBE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO COLLEGE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, BUT YOU'RE GOING TO NEED TO GO TO COLLEGE IN HIGH SCHOOL. LET'S COMPLETE AN ASSOCIATES OR LET'S COMPLETE A CERTIFICATION, AND WHEN THEY SEE THAT THEY'RE MOTIVATED. THE PLATFORM IS ALL ABOUT THAT, SHOWCASING ALL OF THE STORIES. WE'LL HAVE VIDEOS HIGHLIGHTING STUDENT SUCCESS. ON THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU'LL SEE ONE OF THE EXCITING COMPONENTS OF THOSE PARTNERSHIPS IN TERMS OF MAKING IT REAL. WE HAD MEMBERS OF THE JPS TEAM, THEIR LEADERSHIP TEAM COME OUT AND VISIT THE CTE CENTER AND LOOK AT ALL OF THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING THERE. THEY HAVE CO-DESIGNED WITH US AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS IN CROWLEY THAT ARE IN THOSE CERTIFICATIONS IN HEALTH SCIENCES TO HAVE DURABLE SKILLS RIGHT NOW AND GET TRAINED UP FOR FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT. WE HAVE STUDENTS RIGHT NOW INTERVIEWING FOR FULL TIME POSITIONS AT JPS. YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW EXCITING IT'S GOING TO BE TO HAVE THOSE VIDEOS ADDED AND PUSHING THAT OUT TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO SAY RIGHT HERE IN CROWLEY, THESE ARE REAL STUDENTS THAT HAVE CONNECTED THE FUTURE THAT THEY WANT TO THEIR DESIRED PROFESSION. WE'RE EXCITED TO SHARE MORE OF THAT GOOD NEWS. THEN A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS IS JUST THE T3 FAMILY ALLIANCE. WE'RE POURING INTO PARENT EMPOWERMENT AND ENGAGEMENT. WE WANT PARENTS TO BE ABLE TO HAVE ACCESS TO TOOLS ON THEIR OWN TIME, EITHER IN THEIR CELL PHONES, WHERE THEY CAN LOOK AT AND EXPLORE ALL OF THE OPTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES, SELECT THEIR TOP CHOICE, INVITE THEIR STUDENTS TO SAY, WHAT CAREER CLUSTER ARE YOU LOOKING AT? STUDENTS ARE SHARING, HERE IS WHAT I'M INTERESTED IN. ON THE PLATFORM, YOU'RE CREATING THIS DIALOGUE IN CONNECTION WITH STUDENTS AND PARENTS THAT THEN COUNSELORS CAN USE. THE STUDENTS CAN COME IN AND SAY, HERE'S WHAT I'VE SELECTED, HERE'S MY PATHWAY TO AN ENDORSEMENT, AND I KNOW THERE'S WORK THAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE TO GET THERE. IT GIVES THE COUNSELORS THAT STARTING POINT, THE CONVERSATIONS FOR PARENTS AND THEY FEEL LIKE THEY CAN BE A REAL INSTRUMENTAL PART, EVEN IF SOMETIMES THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO COME UP TO CAMPUS. THEY HAVE THAT LINK IN THAT CONNECTION. WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT, PROVIDING THOSE RESOURCES AND CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS. THEN ON THE LAST PIECE, WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT T3 PATHWAYS TO CAREERS. YOU SAW THE VIDEO, HOW THEY'RE ABLE TO GO THROUGH AND SELECT. WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO POUR IN TO FAMILIES AND MAKE THAT AVAILABLE TO ALL PARENTS THAT ARE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL SO THAT THEY CAN EXPLORE WITH THEIR STUDENTS AND ALSO USE THAT AS A TOOL FOR OUR ADVISORS AS WELL. I KNOW I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN TALKING AT YOU AND SAID YOU CAN INTERRUPT. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, WE'RE HAPPY TO ANSWER THOSE AS WELL. >> THANK YOU, DR. WILLIAMS. THANK YOU SO MUCH. BOARD, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? DR. HALL. >> JUST A FEW. IF I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY, OUR STUDENTS ENTER THE PROGRAM WHILE PARTICIPATING IN THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR, IS THAT CORRECT? JUST WITH THE MERIT AND ALL THE GREAT THINGS ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM AND THE CCMR REQUIREMENTS THAT WE HAVE WITH REGARDS TO ACCOUNTABILITY. WHY WOULDN'T 100% OF STUDENTS BE PARTICIPATING IN T3? IS THERE A PARTICULAR PROFILE OF STUDENT THAT YOU'RE TRYING TO ACCESS? >> NO, THERE'S NOT A PARTICULAR PROFILE OF STUDENT THAT WE WANT TO ACCESS. WE'RE CLOSE. WE HAVE ABOUT 92% OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE PARTICIPATING. THOSE ARE THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN THE PLEDGE AND MADE THAT COMMITMENT. DR. TITUS, FEEL FREE TO JUMP IN. BUT WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO GETTING TO THAT 100% MARK AND 92%, I THINK THEY'RE EVEN IN THEIR FIRST YEAR. CROWLEY ISD IS ALREADY OUTPACING JUST THE ENROLLMENT AND ENGAGEMENT WITH STUDENTS, BUT IT IS OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS AND WE WANT TO ENGAGE ALL STUDENTS. >> IF I TAKE OUR NUMBERS AGAINST THE OCTOBER NUMBERS, YOU'RE AT 99%. BUT ONE OF THE DIFFERENCES WITH CROWLEY IS ALL THE GREAT WORK THAT EVERYONE'S DOING HERE HAD STUDENTS FLOCK TO CROWLEY EVEN MID SEMESTER AND AS THINGS ARE GOING ON. THAT NUMBER GROWS, BUT WE HAVE A CUTOFF OF WHEN STUDENTS CAN ACTUALLY TAKE THE PLEDGE AND THAT'S IN DECEMBER. WE ARE HAVING MOMENTS WHERE STUDENTS ARE COMING, BUT THE TIMELINE FOR THEM TO COMPLETE THE PLEDGE IS DIFFERENT FROM THE STUDENT WHO'S BEEN HERE ALL ALONG. THE POPULATION WE TAKE IS WHO WAS EVEN AVAILABLE AT ANY POINT IN TIME AND THAT'S HOW WE GET TO THE 92%. IF I USE THE OCTOBER SNAPSHOT NUMBER, THEN YOU WOULD BE CLOSER TO 99%. >> ARE STUDENTS REQUIRED TO TAKE THE PLEDGE ANNUALLY OR IS IT A ONE TIME PLEDGE? >> IT'S A ONE TIME PLEDGE. WE WANT IT TO BE A CHOICE FOR THEM. [00:50:03] WE WANT TO BE SUCH A POWERFUL CHOICE THAT THEY ALL CHOOSE TO DO IT. >> MY LAST QUESTION, I'M SORRY. WHAT DO THE ACTIVITIES OR THE ENGAGEMENT LOOK LIKE FOR THE STUDENTS AS THEY MATRICULATE THROUGH THE PROGRAM? WHAT DOES THE FRESHMAN DO WITH T3 VERSUS WHAT A JUNIOR MIGHT DO AND A SENIOR? >> WE'RE ACTUALLY AT THE PRECIPICE OF A LITTLE BIT OF GROWTH IN THIS AREA. IN THE PAST, THE FRESHMAN EXPERIENCE HAS REALLY BEEN CHAMPIONED BY THE DISTRICT OR THE SCHOOLS NINTH GRADE FOCUSED ENTITIES. FOR US, NOW IN OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH CROWLEY ISD, WE ARE DEVELOPING A MODEL THAT ALLOWS FOR NINTH GRADE TO BE WHERE STUDENTS GET REALLY INTRODUCED TO THE GO CENTER AND COLLEGE AND FUTURE AND DECISIONS ABOUT HOW TO LIVE AND HOW THEY WOULD WANT TO LIVE TO WARM THEM TO THE EXPERIENCE, BUT ALSO GET TO HEAR ABOUT REMEMBER, THIS IS WHAT A GPA IS AND WHY THAT'S IMPORTANT. THIS IS WHY BEING TSIA READY AND FOCUSING ON SOME OF THESE ELEMENTS LIKE DUAL CREDIT, THEY'RE GOING TO SET YOU UP FOR THE FUTURE AND IMPORTANT. MAKING SURE THOSE SEEDS ARE FIRMLY PLANTED. ESSENTIALLY, IN THEIR 10TH GRADE, 11TH GRADE, AND 12TH GRADE YEAR, THEY WILL HAVE EIGHT TOUCH POINTS. EACH ONE OF THOSE TOUCH POINTS IS A GROWTH RELATIONSHIP BASED TOUCH POINT THAT ESSENTIALLY GROWS THEM INTO THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF SELF AND HOW THEY WANT TO ARTICULATE THAT SELF INTO THEIR DREAMS. SO BY THE TIME THEY'RE GETTING INTO THEIR JUNIOR YEAR, THAT'S WHEN WE WANT THEM TO ACTUALLY REALLY START TAKING THE PLEDGE NOW BECAUSE THAT GIVES US MORE TIME NOW THAT YOU'VE SAID, I WANT TO TAKE THE PLEDGE AND I WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE. HERE ARE THE STEPS THAT WE CAN HELP YOU COMPLETE TO ENSURE THAT YOU'RE GOING TO GO TO COLLEGE AND WE CAN EVEN HELP GET YOU COLLEGE READY. BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I HAVE FOUND IS COLLEGES AREN'T GETTING STUDENTS COLLEGE READY ONCE THEY'RE THERE, AND SO HOW DO WE HELP BEFORE STUDENTS ARRIVE? OR IF YOU'RE ONE OF THE 50% OF STUDENTS THAT ARE SAYING, "HEY, I WANT TO GO INTO WORK FORCE." WELL, HOW DO WE SKILL UP? HOW DO WE GET YOU TO BE THE PERSON THAT GETS SELECTED FOR THE JOB THAT YOU REALLY WANT AND HELP YOU ALONG THE WAY. WE KNOW WE'RE PART OF THAT FORMULA, BUT THE FOLKS THAT WE'RE WORKING WITH THROUGH THE DISTRICT AND IN THE GO CENTERS, THE TEACHERS THAT ARE THERE AND THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES ARE ALL PART OF THAT COLLABORATION. THAT'S ESSENTIALLY AS THEY GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH, BY THE TIME THAT THEY'RE GRADUATING, THE GOAL IS AT A MINIMUM, THAT THEY'VE HAD AT LEAST PROBABLY NINE OR 10 TOUCH POINTS WITH US THAT HAVE BEEN INTENTIONAL, BUT IT'S BEEN WARMING ENOUGH FOR THEM THAT THEY'VE DESIRED MORE. THAT'S JUST THE STUDENT JOURNEY. THERE'S PARENT ELEMENTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT GO ALONG THE WAY, TOO. >> [INAUDIBLE]. >> THANK YOU, DR. HALL. TRUSTEE DAVIS? >> YES. THANK YOU. I THINK THIS IS GREAT. AND PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I ASK A QUESTION THAT YOU DID ANSWER BECAUSE I WAS TAKING NOTES. BUT I THINK YOU JUST ANSWERED ONE OF MY QUESTIONS ABOUT ONCE THE STUDENT TAKES THE PLEDGE, WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE AFTER THAT? YOU MENTIONED THE TOUCH POINTS. SO COULD YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THOSE TOUCH POINTS LOOK LIKE? >> YEAH. ONCE THE STUDENT COMPLETES THE PLEDGE, NUMBER 1, CELEBRATION. THAT'S A REALLY BIG MOMENT THAT THEY'VE REALLY DEDICATED THEMSELVES TOWARDS THEIR FUTURE. THEN THE TOUCH POINTS START TO LOOK LIKE COMPLETING YOUR FAFSA. MAKING SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT COLLEGE IS AND HOW TO GET READY FOR IT, IF THAT'S THE DIRECTION THAT YOU'RE GOING IN. COLLEGE HOUSING: A LOT OF THOSE DEADLINES ACTUALLY CLOSE PRETTY EARLY ON AND IF YOU'RE NOT LEANING ON THE FOREFRONT, YOU MAY LOSE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO AND ACTUALLY LIVE ON THE CAMPUSES THAT YOU WANT TO GO TO. COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: HOW MANY APPLICATIONS DO YOU WANT TO GO TO? WHAT ARE YOUR CONSIDERATIONS THERE? HOW DO YOU DECIDE BETWEEN MULTIPLE COLLEGE OPPORTUNITIES AND UTILIZE THE SKILLS THAT YOU'VE LEARNED IN THE CTE CENTERS AND THROUGH YOUR PROFESSOR, OR YOUR TEACHERS AND OTHERS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN APPLY IT TOWARDS A RESUME, TOWARDS EXPERIENCES THAT YOU CAN ARTICULATE TO GET IN. ESSENTIALLY EACH STEP IN GETTING INTO COLLEGE, EACH ONE OF THOSE PROCESSES ARE FOUND IN DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF THE TOUCH POINTS DEPENDING ON EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS AND WHERE THEY ARE IN THEIR JOURNEY AND THEIR PREPARATION, IF THEY'RE GOING TO COLLEGE AND COLLEGE IS WHERE THEY WANT TO BE. IF THEY ARE ONE OF THE STUDENTS THAT HAVE TAKEN THE PLEDGE, BUT THEY'VE INDICATED, I DON'T WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE. WELL, THAT'S WHERE WE'RE RESOURCING UP TO BE ABLE TO SAY, HERE'S HOW YOU SKILL UP AND GET READY FOR THE WORKFORCE. THE COLLEGE ELEMENTS ARE THINGS THAT ARE IN PLACE AND YOU'VE BEEN ABLE TO SEE IN THE PRESENTATION OF JUST HOW MUCH CROWLEY HAS DONE, NOT JUST A GOOD JOB, BUT AN EXCELLENT JOB IN GETTING STUDENTS COLLEGE GOING. THE WORKFORCE ELEMENTS ARE THE THINGS THAT YOU SAW AS THIS IS THE PATHWAY TOWARDS SUCCESS THAT WE'RE IMPLEMENTING NOW TO BE ABLE TO GROW STUDENTS EVEN MORE TO GET FULL TIME JOBS RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL THAT THEY ARE READY FOR, AND THAT THEIR EMPLOYER IS EXCITED FOR THEM TO BE IN AS WELL. SO NOT JUST THEY'RE EXCITED TO HAVE A JOB, BUT THAT EMPLOYER IS EXCITED TO HAVE THEM IN THAT JOB. >> OKAY. YOU MENTIONED PARENT ENGAGEMENT. IS THAT REQUIRED FOR THE STUDENTS TO TAKE THE PLEDGE AND THEN BE INVOLVED IN THIS PROGRAM? DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? >> SO THEY ARE ALSO COMPLETING THE PLEDGE. THE PARENTS AREN'T AS INVOLVED ON THAT SIDE, BUT IN FAFSA AND ALL THE DOCUMENTS THERE, THE PARENTS HAVE TO BE INVOLVED IN THOSE PROCESSES. SO WE HAVE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MECHANISMS THAT REACH OUT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PARENT KNOWS THOSE PROCESSES. WE TRY TO TAKE THE APPROACH THAT THE NUMBER 1 RESOURCE FOR THAT STUDENT IS THE PARENT. [00:55:03] SO HOW DO WE MAKE SURE BOTH ARE BEING EQUIPPED INTO THE ACCESS OF KNOWING HOW TO TAKE THESE STEPS AND TO DO THESE STEPS. THERE'LL BE EVENTS THAT HAPPEN AT NIGHT, AND SOME OF THEM IN SPANISH, SOME OF THEM IN ENGLISH, TO MAKE SURE THAT PARENTS ARE AWARE AND THEY CAN ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTE TO EITHER FAFSA OR TASFA COMPLETIONS, TO ENSURE THEIR STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET AID TO GO TO COLLEGE. >> DO THE PARENTS TAKE A PLEDGE TOO? >> THE PARENTS DO NOT CURRENTLY TAKE A PLEDGE. >> THEY JOIN THE FAMILY ALLIANCE. SO THEY DON'T TAKE THE PLEDGE, BUT THEY JOIN THE FAMILY ALLIANCE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND SO IT'S A PART OF THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO COME ON BOARD AND THEY CAN EARN DEPOSITS INTO A COLLEGE SAVINGS ACCOUNT WHEN THEY ATTEND EVENTS THAT HELP INFORM THEM ABOUT THE APPROACH TO SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS. SO THE PLEDGE FOR PARENTS IS JOINING THE FAMILY ALLIANCE. >> GO AHEAD DR. MCFARLAND. >> SO MISS WILLIAMS, I'D LIKE YOU TO TAKE US BECAUSE WE STARTED AT THE NINTH GRADE, IT ACTUALLY STARTS AT THE FIFTH GRADE. SO TAKE US AS A PARENT OF A FIFTH GRADE AND WALK US THROUGH WHAT HAPPENS. >> ABSOLUTELY. SO FIFTH GRADE PARENTS THAT ARE GETTING READY FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE KNOW AND YOU ALL KNOW AS TRUSTEES THAT A LOT OF THE DECISIONS THAT ARE MADE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL ACTUALLY INFORM THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN HIGH SCHOOL. SO ALGEBRA 1 AND THE EIGHTH GRADE IS A GREAT INDICATOR OF SUCCESS FOR EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS ARE REALLY IMPORTANT. SO WE START WITH FIFTH GRADE FAMILIES BEING ABLE TO JOIN THE FAMILY ALLIANCE AND GET EXPOSED TO THE PLATFORM. SO THEY BEGIN THINKING ABOUT, WHAT ARE ALL OF THESE POSSIBILITIES, AND THEN THAT HERO VIDEO GETS THEM USED TO YES, POSSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES START IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. IT'S A LITTLE OVERWHELMING FOR PARENTS AND IT TOOK ME A LITTLE BIT TO UNDERSTAND ALL THE POSSIBILITIES AND EVEN NAVIGATE AN ENDORSEMENT. WE WANT THEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT, SEE THAT, GET EXCITED ABOUT THAT. SO THAT WHOLE MIDDLE SCHOOL JOURNEY IS THAT DREAM BELIEVE EXPLORE, WHERE PARENTS AND STUDENTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COUNSELORS ARE SEEING THE POSSIBILITIES OF THEIR FUTURE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. HEAVY FOCUS ON PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, HEAVY FOCUS ON STUDENT AGENCY AND VOICE. SO ALL OF THAT HAPPENS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WHICH GETS THEM READY THEN WHAT HAPPENS, FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, AND SENIOR YEAR. >> SO JUST A BOARD AS YOU ALL KNOW WE ARE DEFINITELY LASER FOCUSED ON MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT WE GET STUDENTS AND FAMILIES STARTED EARLY WITH JUST THIS COLLEGE PATH AND THIS JOURNEY TO CAREER, THEN WE HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO BE SUCCESSFUL. AS WE BEGIN TO FORMULATE THE PERFORMANCE CONTRACT, FOR EXAMPLE, FOR OUR 1882 MIDDLE SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP, WE'LL BE BUILDING IN THESE T3 METRICS AND THESE METRICS TO MAKE SURE THAT PARENTS ARE FILLING OUT THE FORM OR PARENTS ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE PARENT ALLIANCE MEETINGS AND ALL THOSE TYPES OF THINGS. THE PLATFORM, ALSO, WHEN WILL THE PLATFORM BE UP OR IS IT UP AND LIVE AT THIS POINT? >> PLATFORM IS LIVE AND YOU ALREADY HAVE PARENTS THAT ARE ON THERE PROVIDING US FEEDBACK. IT WILL GO LAUNCH FULL SCALE IN FALL 2024, BUT WE WANTED PARENTS TO FEEL LIKE THEY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CO-DESIGN AND CO-CREATE IT WITH US. WHAT'S BEEN GREAT IS THAT THEY'VE GIVEN US FEEDBACK ALREADY SAYING, "YES, AND CAN WE HAVE THIS, AND WHAT ABOUT THIS?" WE'RE DESIGNING MORE OF THOSE FEATURES BASED UPON THE PARENT FEEDBACK. WE WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT IT'S TRULY FOR THEM, AND IT'LL CONTINUE. AS WE GET FEEDBACK FROM PARENTS AND THEY THINK OF OTHER THINGS THAT THEY WANT TO HELP DEEPEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE BASE, WE'RE RAISING FUNDS AND RESOURCES TO ENSURE THAT WE CAN ADD THOSE FEATURES IN AS WELL. >> IN ADDITION, WHEN THE STUDENTS HIT THE SIXTH GRADE, THEN I ALSO KNOW THAT THERE IS A INTEREST SURVEY. I THINK THROUGH XELLO AND THROUGH SOME OTHER THINGS THAT WE HAVE, THEY'LL BE ABLE TO BE BAKED INTO THIS SYSTEM AND FOLLOW OUR STUDENTS AS THEY GO. THE FIRST THING WE WANT TO DO IS INTRODUCE THEM TO SUCCESS OUTSIDE OF COLLEGE. WE WANT THEM TO GO SUCCESS IN THE REAL WORLD AND THEN GET THEM CONNECTED THERE. THEN SCHOOL BECOMES MORE RELEVANT TO THEM, IS ONE OF OUR [OVERLAPPING] >> ABSOLUTELY. >> THEN ALSO TRUSTEE ROBINSON HAD A HAND UP. [LAUGHTER] >> I ACTUALLY HAD THREE, SO DO YOU WANT TO GO? >> I HAD ONE TOO, BUT THAT'S OKAY. [LAUGHTER] >> MINE IS GOING TO BE QUICK. I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY LAST YEAR TO GO TO THE ENDORSEMENT FOR CMS IN CROWLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL. WHILE GOING THERE, I SAW A LOT OF THE PARENTS, THEY WERE VERY INFORMED AND THEY WERE ALSO PARTICIPATING. DO YOU SEE THE NUMBERS DECLINING WHEN THEY GET TO HIGH SCHOOL? IT WAS A GREAT EVENT FOR THEM TO HAVE ENDORSEMENT, KIDS WERE ALL EXCITED ABOUT THE CAREER PATH THAT THEY WERE TAKING. BUT DO YOU SEE THE SAME INVOLVEMENT ON THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL WHEN THEY GET TO HIGH SCHOOL? >> IT MAY JUST BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT DR. TITUS ALLUDED TO IS THAT WE DO A LOT OF COMMUNICATION. WE HAVE A COMMUNICATION TOOL CALLED SIGNAL [INAUDIBLE], [01:00:02] SO WE'RE UPDATING PARENTS, COMMUNICATING WITH THEM VIA TEXT MESSAGE. IN TERMS OF THE FAMILY ALLIANCE, NEXT YEAR WILL BE THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE BEGIN FOLLOWING PARENTS TO THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR. WE STARTED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND SO WE'LL HAVE YOUR FIRST NINTH-GRADE PARENTS THAT WE'RE FOLLOWING. IT'LL BE GOOD TO SEE IF THAT LEVEL OF INTENTIONAL ENGAGEMENT CONTINUES IN THE SAME WAY. I KNOW STUDENTS TEND TO THINK IN HIGH SCHOOL, THEY'RE PRETTY INDEPENDENT AND THEY CAN MAKE A LOT OF THOSE DECISIONS, BUT THEY DO NEED THAT PARENT INVOLVEMENT. BUT WOULD LOVE TO FOLLOW BACK UP ONCE WE SEE THEM BEING FOLLOWED THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR. >> VERY QUICK. BEFORE YOU GO, MS. ROBINSON, WITH THE QUESTION I ASKED ABOUT THE PARENT ENGAGEMENT PIECE, I'M VERY FORTUNATE TO SIT THE BESIDE OF A PARENT THAT HAS A STUDENT INVOLVED AND SHE SHARED WHAT THAT COMMUNICATION LOOKS LIKE, VERY GOOD. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. YES. I DO RECEIVE THE T3 PARTNERSHIP TEXT MESSAGES AND I BELIEVE NEWSLETTERS. I DID HAVE THREE QUESTIONS, SO I'LL JUST GO THROUGH THEM ONE AT A TIME. YOU MENTIONED THE EIGHT PARTNERSHIP UNIVERSITIES. ARE PARENTS AWARE OF THE INCOME GUIDELINES SO TO HELP MAKE DECISIONS ON WHERE THEIR CHILDREN SHOULD GO? I KNOW FAFSA CHANGED THIS YEAR, AND SO MAYBE IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE CHILDREN THAT'S NOT TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION NOW. ARE PARENTS HAVING MEETINGS TO BE INFORMED ABOUT WHAT MAY BE FEASIBLE FOR YOUR CHILD BASED ON YOUR FAMILY'S INCOME? >> DO YOU WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT [INAUDIBLE]? >> TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY, YES, BECAUSE THE FAFSA CHANGES IMPACTED US AS WELL. WE HAVE ALREADY POSTED ALL OF THE INFORMATION ON WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL LEVELS PER INSTITUTION, NOT JUST ON OUR WEBSITES, BUT IN WHAT WE SEND OUT TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS IN THE FUTURE AS WELL. ESSENTIALLY, EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN BUILDING OUT AND SENDING OUT TO STUDENTS WILL BE FEEDING INTO THE PIPELINE OF INFORMATION AS THESE PARENTS ARE STARTING TO COME INTO NINTH GRADES. WE'VE ALREADY FIGURED OUT WHAT NEEDS TO BE KNOWN, AND NOW, WE'RE EXPANDING ON THE POPULATION THAT RECEIVES THAT. THE FAFSA CHANGES CREATED AN ELEMENT WHERE THE IRS IS NOW INVOLVED, AND SO THERE'S INFORMATION THAT UNIVERSITIES CAN'T SHARE WITH US ANYMORE. IT HAS PUSHED FOR OUR FIRST DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP TO BE MORE ABOUT ELIGIBILITY, LESS ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL FAMILY INCOME. THEN UNIVERSITIES STILL POST OUT, IN ESSENCE, WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE, BUT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF A SHIFT RIGHT NOW IN FIGURING OUT WHAT THE NEW FAFSA REQUIREMENTS AND [INAUDIBLE] REQUIREMENTS AND THE FINANCIAL PIECES THERE, AND SO SOME OF THEIR LANGUAGE HAS LOOSENED A LITTLE BIT. THEY'RE ALSO WORRIED ABOUT MAKING CLASSES, ACTUALLY HAVING THEIR CLASSES FILL UP. ONE OF THE COOL ELEMENTS ABOUT BEING A T3 SCHOLAR IS THAT WE HAVE A GROUP OF STUDENTS THAT THOSE INSTITUTIONS KNOW US AND KNOW THESE STUDENTS, AND SO IN SOME OF THESE MOMENTS WHERE MAYBE THEY COULD DEFER TO OTHERS OR WAIT, OUR STUDENTS WERE STARTING TO SEE ELEMENTS OF PRIORITY. NOT LIKE WHAT UNIVERSITIES WOULD SAY IS COMPLETE PRIORITY, BUT ELEMENTS OF PRIORITY BECAUSE THEY KNEW OF THE DEPENDABILITY OF THE STUDENT AS WELL. WE TRY TO BE AS TRANSPARENT AS POSSIBLE. THE INFORMATION THAT WE SHARE ABOUT LAST DOLLAR IS TECHNICALLY THE UNIVERSITY'S INFORMATION BECAUSE THE UNIVERSITIES AND OUR SEVEN FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS, PAY THE LAST DOLLAR TUITION SCHOLARSHIP DIRECTLY TO THAT STUDENT, AND WE PAY THE FIRST DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP TO THE STUDENT TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THEM. >> THANK YOU. MY NEXT QUESTION IS, YOU MENTIONED COLLEGE AND INDUSTRIES, DO WE COLLABORATE WITH ANY PROGRAMS EITHER WITHIN CROWLEY ISD OR OUTSIDE THAT OFFER COLLEGE TOURS TO STUDENTS, OFFER THE INDUSTRIES SO IF A STUDENT WANTS TO GO INTO THE WORKFORCE VERSUS GOING TO COLLEGE WHERE THEY CAN ACTUALLY SEE THAT IN PERSON? >> ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IS HOW DO WE SCALE THAT AND HOW DO WE GIVE STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE EXPOSURE TO MULTIPLE INDUSTRIES, AND IT IS COSTLY TO GET THEM OUT, AND THERE'S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR ACTUALLY BEING THERE. WHAT YOU'LL SEE OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, THE EVOLUTION OF THE PLATFORM IS THAT WE WILL HAVE STUDENT INTERNS THAT ARE ACTUALLY ON SITE, INTERVIEWING PEOPLE AND TALKING ABOUT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE SO THAT AT LEAST FOR ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, THEY'RE ABLE TO GET A TASTE OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE SO WE CAN HELP THEM MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE AND AN INFORMED DECISION. THE OTHER PIECE IN TERMS OF OUR INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. I KNOW THAT CROWLEY ISD IN TERMS OF THEIR COLLABORATION DOES A GREAT JOB OF CREATING THOSE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO GO ONTO THE CAMPUSES AND DO THOSE VISITS. I WOULD SAY THAT THAT'S PROBABLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST PIECES THAT WE NEED TO EXPAND AND GROW IS ENSURING THAT WE HAVE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO SEE. THE ADVISORS ALSO DO A GREAT JOB OF HELPING THE STUDENTS UNDERSTAND HOW DO YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU SELECT. [01:05:02] OFTENTIMES, THE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION THAT GIVES THEM THE MOST SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING IS THE ONE THAT THEY THINK THAT THEY NEED TO GO TO, AND SOMETIMES THAT IS TRULY THE CASE. BUT THERE ARE OTHER CONSIDERATIONS TO THINK ABOUT AND GETTING PARENTS AND STUDENTS EQUIPPED TO ASK THOSE QUESTIONS LIKE WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE FOR STUDENTS IN THESE PROGRAMS? OR HOW SUCCESSFUL HAVE YOU BEEN WITH FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS THAT ARE COMING IN, AND WHAT ARE THOSE SUPPORTS LOOK LIKE? HELPING STUDENTS LOOK AT IT FROM A BROADER PERSPECTIVE. T3 DOESN'T HAVE, RIGHT NOW, A COLLEGE TOUR OPPORTUNITY, BUT WE ARE WANTING TO LEVERAGE THE PLATFORM TO CREATE A VERY IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE AS BEST WE CAN WHERE STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE PROVIDING THEIR PERSPECTIVE AND GIVING INSIGHT TO THE PARENTS AS TO HOW THEY SELECTED AND CHOSE THE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION. >> MY FINAL QUESTION. WHAT DOES THE T3 PATHWAYS LOOK LIKE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL? >> I CAN SEND YOU OUT A DIRECT LINK. IF YOU GO ON TO T3PATHWAYSTOCAREERS.ORG, IT IS OPEN AND IT'S LIVE, AND YOU CAN GO AND EXPLORE, YOU CAN CREATE A PROFILE, AND YOU CAN MAKE SOME SELECTIONS. WE HAVE THE WEBSITE UP FOR PARENTS TO EXPLORE AND TAKE A LOOK. THEN FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS WHEN WE LAUNCH IT, WE'LL CREATE A GUIDE THAT HELPS THEM EXPLORE IN DEPTH SO THAT THEY'RE ABLE TO SEE ALL THAT'S THERE AND AVAILABLE. IT'S THERE FOR YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT THAT PHASE 1, THE PATHWAY TO AN ENDORSEMENT, AND THEN THIS SUMMER AND IN THE FALL, WE'RE GOING TO LAUNCH PHASE 2, WHICH IS THE DEEPENING OF THE EXPERIENCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL. >> IF THERE ARE ANY OTHERS, JUST LET ME KNOW. BUT I'VE BEEN DYING TO SAY THIS BECAUSE I'M A PARENT TOO OF A T3 SCHOLAR AND SO I CAN ATTEST TO THE PROGRAMMING, THE ENGAGEMENT, MY DAUGHTER HAD, SHE'S EXCITED TO GO TO COLLEGE AND I'D GET THE CALLS DURING WORKDAY. DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR [INAUDIBLE] DID YOU SIGN IT? ALL OF THOSE THINGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. I CERTAINLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK AND THE GO CENTER WORKERS AND COUNSELORS, THEY'VE BEEN PHENOMENAL ALL YEAR. THE QUESTION I HAVE IS THE NUMBER OF INSTITUTIONS THAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE, WILL WE SEE AN INCREASE IN THOSE INSTITUTIONS THROUGHOUT? THEN ALSO, I PARTICIPATED IN THE SIGNING DAY AND NOTICE THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS CHOSE HBCU. NOW, YOU TALKED ABOUT THE SUPPORT, BECAUSE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, A LOT OF THOSE PROGRAMS THAT STUDENTS OF COLOR GO INTO SOME OF THESE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, AND THEY'RE EXPECTING SOME LEVELS OF SUPPORT AND THEY MAY NOT GET THE SAME LEVEL THAT SEVERAL YEARS AGO, SOME OTHER STUDENTS RECEIVED. IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND TO INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE OR TWO TEXAS HBCUS, BUT THEN ALSO IS THERE GOING TO BE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF INSTITUTIONS OVERALL? >> THE ANSWER IS YES. THE WAY THAT WE LOOK AT OUR INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IS WE IDENTIFY THE TOP NATURAL FEEDER INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN TARRANT COUNTY, GREATER CITY OF FORT WORTH, AND THAT'S HOW WE SELECTED THE EIGHT. WE LOOKED AT WHERE ARE MOST OF THE STUDENTS GOING, AND THE EIGHT REPRESENTS MOST OF THE TOP 10. WHAT WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DETERMINE AND DECIDE IS WHERE IS THE PRIORITY IN TERMS OF HBCUS IN PARTNERSHIP, AND WHAT DOES THAT FUNDING LOOK LIKE? THERE IS A COMMITMENT ON THE PART OF THE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO BRIDGE THAT GAP IN TUITION. T3 PROVIDES A LOT OF THAT FUNDING AND SUPPORT, AND THEN THE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION COMMITS TO BRIDGE THE TUITION GAP SO THAT STUDENTS WHO MEET THOSE INCOME THRESHOLDS CAN ATTEND TUITION FREE. WHAT WE NEED TO FIGURE OUT IS HOW DO WE CREATE POTENTIALLY AN ENDOWMENT FOR SOME OF THE HBCUS WHO MAY NOT HAVE THE ROBUST ENDOWMENT TO BRIDGE THAT GAP? THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE'RE WORKING OUT WITH RAINWATER CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IS ENGAGING OTHER PARTNERSHIPS EVEN RIGHT HERE IS GETTING US TO THAT NEXT STEP AS WELL. PRIOR TO JOINING T3, I WAS CHIEF OF STAFF FOR PRESIDENT MICHAEL SORRELL AT PAUL QUINN COLLEGE, SO THERE'S SEVERAL INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT AND REALLY EVALUATING, AND A LOT OF THAT WILL BE ALSO DICTATED BY WHERE IS THE INTEREST AND WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE STUDENTS GOING, BECAUSE THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE PROVIDING THAT ADVISING AND THAT SUPPORT FOR THOSE STUDENTS. >> WONDERFUL. THANK YOU. >> YOU'RE WELCOME. >> I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION. I KNOW DR. MCFARLAND MENTIONED GRADE V AS THE STARTING POINT AND THEN MIDDLE SCHOOL. IF I'M A SOPHOMORE OR JUNIOR [01:10:06] AND I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN A PART OF IT THEN, SO A STUDENT CAN BECOME A PART OF THIS AT ANY POINT ALONG THE WAY? >> YES. IN FALL 2024. THE BEST WAY TO LOOK AT IT IS WE ARE MERGING INTO THE MIDDLE. WE WERE VERY INTENT WITH SOPHOMORE JUNIORS AND SENIORS. SOPHOMORES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO COMPLETE THEIR POST SECONDARY SUCCESS PLAN, JUNIORS TAKING THE PLEDGE AND SENIORS,SO THAT'S BEEN A PART OF THE MODEL SINCE OUR INCEPTION HERE AND WORKING WITH CROWLEY ISD. YEAR 2, WE BROUGHT IN THE FAMILY ALLIANCE THAT WAS TARGETED AT PARENTS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. FALL 2024 WILL BRIDGE THE ENTIRE CONTINUUM. >> THANK YOU. TRUSTEE DAVIS. >> THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT. I'M CURIOUS AS TO THE INTENTIONALITY ONCE THE STUDENTS ARE IN COLLEGE. AS A FORMER HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR, I'M LOOKING ON SLIDE 7, THE COLLEGE RETENTION, YOU TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE RETENTION IS HIGHER AT THREE OF THE INSTITUTIONS. THREE OUT OF THE SEVEN FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS, WHICH MEANS THE ADVERSE AT FOUR OF THE INSTITUTIONS IS NOT SO MUCH THE CASE. MY QUESTION IS, IS THAT A REFLECTION OF SAY, A LACK OF BELONGING AT SOME INSTITUTIONS? I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SERVING AT TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY, AND IT WAS NEVER LOST ON ME THE THE LACK OF DIVERSITY THAT EXISTED IN THAT INSTITUTION, AND SO I'M JUST CURIOUS BECAUSE THERE IS A MOVING AWAY STATEWIDE FROM THOSE OFFICES AND THOSE DEPARTMENTS THAT PROVIDE THAT SENSE OF BELONGING TO STUDENTS OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS. I'M JUST CURIOUS IF THERE IS A CORRELATION THERE, AND IF THAT'S THE CASE, THEN IS THERE ADDITIONAL EFFORT, MAYBE THAT WILL TAKE PLACE ON T3'S PART TO TRY TO BRIDGE THAT GAP? >> DR. TITUS CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION, BUT I WANT TO POINT OUT ONE THING, IS THAT WHEN WE COMPARE OUR STUDENT POPULATION, WHEN WE SAY GENERAL POPULATION, IT'S ALL TRUE FRESHMAN. WE ALWAYS COMPARE OURSELVES NOT TO STUDENTS WHO ARE ECONOMICALLY VULNERABLE OR PELL GRANT ELIGIBLE, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE COMPARING OURSELVES TO TRUE FRESHMAN, AND THAT'S WHERE WE FEEL LIKE THEIR SUCCESS WHEN WE ERADICATE THAT FINANCIAL BARRIER. JUST KNOW THAT WHEN WE SAY THE THREE OUT OF THE SEVEN, THAT IF WE WERE LOOKING AT SAME SIMILAR POPULATIONS, IT WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. >> PART OF THE INTENTIONALITY OF NOT LOOKING AT STUDENTS THAT ARE MAYBE SIMILAR IN IDENTITY, BUT INSTEAD LOOKING AT THE OVERALL POPULATION IS TO QUESTION WHETHER OR NOT OUR STUDENTS ARE FINDING BELONGING ON THOSE CAMPUSES. THEN TO UTILIZE OUR RELATIONSHIPS TO ENSURE A PARTNERSHIP IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BELONGING. I'VE ALSO HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING AT TCU BEFORE AND EXPERIENCING WHAT THAT IS LIKE AND WORKING WITH INCREDIBLE STUDENTS FROM INCREDIBLE BACKGROUNDS THAT FELT ISOLATED AT TIMES AT A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT UNIVERSITIES. THERE'S A FEW THINGS THAT WE DO. FIRST THING THAT WE DO IS EVERYTHING WE DO STARTS WITH THE STUDENT IN A WAY THAT REALLY WHOLLY UNDERSTANDS THAT EVERYBODY IS A CULTURAL BEING. TO BE ABLE TO FIND SUCCESS, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO ALLOW FOR ALL OF YOU INTO THE CONVERSATION, ALL OF US INTO THE CONVERSATION. CULTURAL RESPONSE OF PEDAGOGY IS HOW IT GETS TAUGHT IN THE CLASSROOM AND I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD BEFORE. OUR RELATIONSHIP-BASED APPROACH TAKES US THAT DIRECTION, AND THEN WE WORK TO ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIP WITH STUDENT IN TWO WAYS. ONE IS DIRECT. I HAVE MANAGERS WHO WORK WITH STUDENTS TO TRY AND SUPPORT THEM. THE SECOND IS THROUGH PEERS. WE HAVE THE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM, WHICH IS A STUDENT PEER LEADER THAT T3 PAYS THAT IT'S ON OUR COLLEGE CAMPUSES THAT WE PARTNER WITH. THEIR JOB IS TO GET STUDENTS TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THAT EVEN IF YOU ARE ONE OF 200 STUDENTS, BUT YOU'RE AT A UNIVERSITY THAT'S 30,000 AND YOU CAN FEEL LIKE YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE, YOU'RE NOT. HOW DO WE BUILD SOME TOGETHERNESS AND COHESION THERE? THE OTHER ELEMENT OF OUR COMMUNICATION IS BEING ABLE TO WORK WITH AND AT TIMES IF NEEDED, HOLD UNIVERSITIES RESPONSIBLE TO, YOU'RE DOING A GREAT JOB HERE, BUT HERE'S A SPECIFIC POPULATION YOU'RE STRUGGLING WITH, AND BECAUSE YOU'RE STRUGGLING, FIRST, WE WOULD LIKE TO HELP, BUT EVENTUALLY, WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO PUT SOME FEET TO THE FIRE TO MAKE SURE THERE'S GOING TO BE CHANGES. EVEN SINCE I'VE BEEN AT T3, THE PARTNER OFFICES AT UNIVERSITIES WE'VE WORKED WITH HAS SHIFT AT SOME UNIVERSITIES, BECAUSE SOME OF THOSE OFFICES WERE NOT BUILT FOR OUR STUDENTS. OUR STUDENTS ARE 91% STUDENTS OF COLOR. OUR STUDENTS ARE COMING THROUGH [01:15:01] DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES THAN SOME OF OUR UNIVERSITIES WERE BUILT FOR. OUR UNIVERSITIES, OFTENTIMES ARE BUILT FOR STUDENTS THAT ARE SECOND OR THIRD GENERATION ATTENDEES TO UNIVERSITIES, NOT FIRST GENERATION STUDENTS. THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT ARE BUILT IN AND BAKED IN THAT THEY'RE LIKE, WELL, HOW COME YOU DON'T KNOW THAT? WELL, WHY WOULD OUR STUDENTS KNOW THAT? THEY'RE MORE THAN CAPABLE OF LEARNING IT AND EXCELLING EVEN IN SPITE OF NOT KNOWING THAT, BUT WHY MAKE IT SO HARD? OFFICE HOURS IS MY BEST EXAMPLE. KNOWING THAT'S THE TIME TO GO TALK TO A PROFESSOR VERSUS THE TIME THAT YOU THINK A PROFESSOR IS JUST WORKING IN THEIR OFFICE IS A VERY FINE LINE OF UNDERSTANDING. BUT IF THAT DOESN'T GET EXPLAINED, AND WE JUST THINK IT'S BY HAPPENSTANCE STUDENTS WILL KNOW THAT, WE'RE MISTREATING ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. SOME OF OUR UNIVERSITIES ARE WORKING REALLY HARD THROUGH THE DIVERSITY ON THEIR CAMPUS IN IDENTITY TO ESTABLISH A GREATER WHOLE. OTHER ONE OF OUR UNIVERSITIES ARE ALREADY HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTIONS OR HAVE LARGE POPULATIONS OF STUDENTS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS. BUT ALL OF OUR INSTITUTIONS AND THE REASON WHY THE UNIVERSITIES NEED TO WORK ON RETAINING THEIR STUDENTS BETTER, AND ESPECIALLY RETAINING STUDENTS THAT ARE ESTABLISHING A CULTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION FOR THE FIRST TIME, BECAUSE THEY ARE FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT. THAT'S THE BLESSING OF SITTING IN THE ROOM WITH THE STUDENT. THEY MAY NOT KNOW ALL OF THE ELEMENTS TO TALK ABOUT, BUT WE DO. WE CARE DEEPLY ABOUT THEM IN SPITE OF WHAT UNIVERSITY THEY'RE AT, AND WE WILL HELP THEM AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT WE HAVE A CONNECTION POINT THROUGH US, AND HOPEFULLY A TON OF CONNECTION POINTS THROUGH THEIR INSTITUTION, WHO SHOULD BE JUST INVESTED IN THEM, IF NOT MORE INVESTED IN THEM THAN THEY ARE IN IT. WE GET TO BE, IN SOME WAYS, COLLABORATORS AND THAT RECOGNIZING THE STUDENT WILL ALWAYS BE THE CHAMPION AND THE MOST IMPORTANT, THEY DON'T TO FIGHT ALONE. >> WELL, THANK YOU. BEFORE YOU LEAVE, WE DO WANT TO EXTEND AN OPPORTUNITY TO OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES, TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS. GO AHEAD, TRUSTEE HUNT. YES. >> I DO HAVE A QUESTION. YOU SAID THERE WERE EIGHT [INAUDIBLE] >> THANKS. YOU SAID WHEN STUDENTS SIGN UP, THEY'LL RECEIVE, I DON'T THINK IT WAS EIGHT CHECKPOINTS, BUT THERE WERE EIGHT DIFFERENT SECTIONS WHERE THEY WOULD RECEIVE OR FILL IN INFORMATION, HOW DO THEY FIND OUT ABOUT THAT? BECAUSE I'VE TAKEN THE T3 PLEDGE AND I HAVEN'T HAD THAT, I HAVEN'T GOTTEN THAT INFORMATION AND I JUST SIGNED UP EARLIER THIS YEAR. IS IT A WEBSITE? IS IT AN APP? IS IT AN EMAIL? HOW WOULD A STUDENT RECEIVE THAT INFORMATION FOR THOSE EIGHT CHECKPOINTS? >> LOGISTICALLY, IN MANY OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS, YOU WILL BE INVITED FROM THE CLASSROOM THAT YOU'RE IN OR THE EXPERIENCE YOU TO COME VISIT THE GO CENTER. IN SOME WAYS, FROM A STUDENT PERSPECTIVE, THE HOPE IS THAT YOU'RE JUST MEETING WITH AN INCREDIBLE ADVISOR, YOU'RE LEARNING SOME THINGS, YOU'RE FIGURING OUT PASSIONS, YOU'RE DECIDING REALLY IMPORTANT LIFE CHOICES, BUT THEY PROBABLY FEEL MORE PERSONABLE TO YOU AS OPPOSED TO SUPER DAUNTING, AND YOU'RE JUST GOING THROUGH THOSE MEETINGS, AND THEN YOU'RE PRESENTED WITH THE PLEDGE, YOU TAKE THE PLEDGE WHICH OPENS A LOT OF DOORS FOR YOU. THEN IT'S FUTURE CONVERSATIONS OF, HAVE YOU COMPLETED YOUR FAFSA? WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP YOU WITH THAT? SOMETIMES THOSE ARE WITH TALKIES, TO BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU SOME SUSTENANCE AS YOU GO THROUGH, AND IN OTHER POINTS, IT'S JUST HIGH FIVES OR POCKETS AS YOU'RE GOING AS WELL. IN MANY WAYS, MY HOPE IS THAT YOU DON'T NECESSARILY FEEL LIKE IT'S JUST EIGHT METHODICAL STEPS, BUT INSTEAD, YOU JUST HAVE A REALLY GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GO CENTER AND YOU KEEP GOING IN, AND FROM RELATIONSHIPS WITH DR. JOHNSON, TO THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE DIFFERENT GO CENTERS THAT YOU'VE HAD AN EXPERIENCE THAT HAS BEEN FLUID ENOUGH TO TAKE YOU ALL THE WAY TO THE DREAM THAT YOU HAVE, BUT PERSONABLE ENOUGH THAT YOU DIDN'T FEEL LIKE YOU WERE EVER TREATED LIKE A NUMBER JUST BEING TAKEN THROUGH EIGHT STEPS. THAT'S MY HOPE FOR YOU REALLY IS THAT YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE PLEDGE, YOU'VE GOTTEN INFORMATION AND RESOURCES, AND YOU FELT CARED ABOUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH, AND THAT YOU HAVEN'T FELT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN FLYING SOLO TOO MUCH, EVEN THOUGH REGARDLESS, PART OF THE PROCESS IS FEELING A LITTLE BIT, BUT FEELING YOU HAD SUPPORT ALONG THE WAY. >> BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU TOOK THE PLEDGE, BUT YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO GO AFTER YOU TOOK THE PLEDGE. >> YES, MA'AM. >> YES. WE'VE GOT TO MAKE THAT CONNECTION OF WHERE YOU FIND THE ADVISOR, WHEN YOU TAKE THE PLEDGE, AND THEY'RE IN THE GO CENTERS SO WE CAN WORK ON HOW TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT IS MORE VISIBLE. YOU'VE TAKEN THE PLEDGE, OKAY, HERE'S WHEN YOU FIND YOUR T3 ADVISOR, THEY'LL BE COMING IN, CONNECTING WITH YOU AS WELL, BUT IN THE GO CENTERS IS WHERE THEY'RE LOCATED. >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> JOHN, DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? >> NO. I'D JUST LIKE TO THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING OUT HERE TONIGHT AND FOR SHOWING US HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS AND WHAT THE CONNECTION WITH THE FRESHMAN AND TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. THANK YOU. >> THESE ARE GOING TO BE AMBASSADORS FOR YOU, SO THAT 92% TO 99, THEY'RE THE ONES THAT CAN HELP US GET TO 100 FOR SURE AND HAVE IT CONSISTENTLY. WE'RE LOOKING TO YOU TRUSTEES AS LEADERS TAKING THE PLEDGE, [01:20:03] BUT THEN ALSO ENCOURAGING YOUR CLASSMATES TO TAKE THE PLEDGE, AND IF FOR WHATEVER REASON, YOU DON'T HAVE THE CONNECTION ON A CONSISTENT BASIS, YOU ASK AND THEN MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE CONNECTED. ONCE YOU DO MAKE THE CONNECTION, I'M SURE THEY WILL FIND YOU AND THEY WILL COME AND GET YOU BECAUSE THAT'S THE EXPERIENCE THAT MY DAUGHTER HAD. GREAT QUESTION AND GREAT COMMENT. THANK YOU. DR. MCFARLAND. >> MADAM PRESIDENT, I'LL JUST WRAP. I JUST WANT TO REMIND YOU ALL, IT WAS ACTUALLY ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO, MAYBE SIX AND WE WERE HAVING A CONVERSATION AT THE OLD ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, AND WE WERE TALKING ABOUT GRADUATION, AND YOU ALL MADE THE POINT THAT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT ONCE KIDS GRADUATE, THAT WE FOLLOW THEM AND WE REALLY GIVE AN ACCOUNT OF HOW STUDENTS ARE DOING ONCE THEY GET TO COLLEGE. I BELIEVE DR. HALL, I KNOW YOU MENTIONED IT, AND SEVERAL OF YOU ALL MENTIONED THAT. AS WE GO OUT SEEKING PARTNERSHIPS, WE'RE LOOKING FOR MISSION FITS, AND SO REALLY T3, QUITE FRANKLY, WAS A MISSION FIT FOR US BECAUSE A LOT OF THESE THINGS THAT WE WERE DOING AND WE ARE DOING, OUR COUNSELOR IS DOING A GREAT JOB, WE HAD ADVISORS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT BEING ABLE TO PULL IT ALL TOGETHER, AND PULL THE RESOURCE TOGETHER, BUT THEN ALSO TO BE ABLE TO PULL THE NON-PROFITS, THE PHILANTHROPISTS, AND THE [INAUDIBLE] TOGETHER INTO A PLATFORM THAT NOW OUR PARENTS CAN USE IS SOMETHING THAT I FEEL LIKE IT'S REALLY GOOD, BUT I WANT TO REALLY BE CLEAR, THIS WAS A RESULT OF THE VISION AND THE SEES THAT YOU ALL PLANNED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THANK YOU ALL FOR THAT. WE DEFINITELY LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE RESULTS. >> THANK YOU. THANK YOU, BOARD. THANK YOU, STUDENT TRUSTEES, TOO, FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS. AT THIS TIME, WE ARE GOING TO HEAR FROM THEM. [8.0 Student School Board Trustee Program] WE HAVE AGENDA ITEM 8.1, WHICH IS THE INTRODUCTIONS AND UPDATES FROM STUDENT TRUSTEES. DR. MCFARLAND. >> MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE MR. KIRCHNER PREPARED TO PRESENT THIS ITEM. MR. KIRCHNER. >> DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, WE ARE EXCITED TO ALWAYS HAVE STUDENT VOICE AT OUR BOARD MEETINGS EVEN IN THE SUMMER. THESE STUDENTS ARE STARTING THEIR SUMMER BREAK WITH US. LACE 6, GARY GRASSIA?HAVE TWO STUDENT TRUSTEES SITTING AT THE DIAS, WE HAVE TWO STUDENT TRUSTEES OUT IN THE AUDIENCE TONIGHT WHO WANTED TO BE HERE TONIGHT. THIS IS JUST A PHENOMENAL PROGRAM THAT YOU'VE HELPED START, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH. OUR TWO NEWEST STUDENT TRUSTEES YOU'LL BE HEARING FROM TONIGHT ARE FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, ETHAN HUNT, AND FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, JORDAN MONTGOMERY. THEY'RE GOING TO SHARE WHAT WE CALL THE 3CS, THE CELEBRATIONS, THE CAMPUS EVENTS, AND CONSIDERATIONS. THEN AFTER THAT, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A FOLLOW-UP FROM MR. HUNT AS WELL ON SOMETHING THAT WAS BROUGHT BY A PREVIOUS STUDENT TRUSTEE. HE WANTED TO SHARE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THAT. BUT LET'S START WITH THE CELEBRATION, AND TONIGHT THEY HAVE ONE JOINT SHARED CELEBRATION FROM BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS. I'LL HAND IT OVER TO THEM. >> THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. >> OUR FIRST SHARED CELEBRATION WAS GRADUATION, CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS HAD THEIR GRADUATIONS PERFORMED AT THE JOINT, WHAT'S CALLED MULTI-PURPOSE STADIUM, AND IT WAS A BIG TURNOUT FOR GRADUATION. HUGE PARTICIPATION, EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY, ALL I COULD SEE WAS SMILING FACES AND EVERYBODY WAS EXCITED TO BE THERE AND MOVE ON WITH THEIR LIVES. >> YES, IT'S A VERY GOOD MOMENT FOR US ALL TO CELEBRATE AND COMING INTO A NEW AGE AND ERA OF THEIR LIVES, AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM ALL. PEER MEDIATOR IMPLEMENTATION HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL. I'M A PART OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BEING A PEER MEDIATOR. THESE PEOPLE HELP WITH FIGHTS AND/OR ANY VIOLENCE RESOLUTION SITUATIONS, BASICALLY HAVING YOUR STUDENTS COME TO ISS RATHER THAN DOING MULTIPLE DAYS OF THAT, IT CAN BE REDUCED TO LESS TIME AND MORE REFLECTION TIME FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR OTHER STUDENTS AROUND THEM, CAUSING THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WILL NEVER TRY TO GO THE EXTRA MILE JUST TO GET THEIR POINT ACROSS. PEER MEDIATORS ALSO HELP WITHIN A LOT OF STUDENT COUNCIL THINGS AND OTHER PRINCIPALS, ACKNOWLEDGMENTS, AND ALL OF THE OTHER THINGS, SO PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR THOSE THINGS AS WE TALK ABOUT THEM IN THE FUTURE. THANK YOU. IN CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, MY CONSIDERATION IS FOR MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS ENGAGEMENTS. FOR STAFF AND ADMIN TO BE ABLE TO ENGAGE WITH THE STUDENTS AND PARENTS ON LEVELS THAT'S RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, AND BASICALLY BEING MORE ATTENTIVE TO DETAILS WITH CERTAIN SITUATIONS LIKE MISINFORMATION, OR MY STUDENT IS FEELING THIS TYPE OF WAY, [01:25:04] THOSE TYPES OF THINGS BECAUSE I CAN TELL WHENEVER A STUDENT WILL COME TO ME, AS A CELL COMMITTEE LEAD FOR OUR STUDENT COUNCIL, THEY WILL COME TO ME AND THEY WILL TELL ME, OH, THIS IS HOW I FEEL, THIS CERTAIN TYPE OF WAY ABOUT SOMEONE IN ADMINISTRATION, AND IT NEVER GETS EXPRESSED ACROSS TO THE WHOLE ENTIRE BOARD. IF THERE IS THESE THINGS OR MISHAPPENS STANCES AGAINST ALL OF THESE INSTANCES, WE NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND WE NEED TO ACT ON IT IN A WAY THAT'S PROFESSIONAL AND RESPECTFUL FOR BOTH PARTIES. >> UPCOMING CAMPUS EVENTS AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, JROTC HAS FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP CAMP AND TASK FORCE CAMP THAT WILL BE TAKING PLACE IN AUGUST AND AT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND THAT'LL BE JUST TO GET CADETS A HEAD START ON WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH AND WHAT THEY'LL DO THROUGHOUT THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER IN NORTH CROWLEY. THEN FOR MY CONSIDERATION, ADDITIONAL WAYS FOR STUDENTS TO RECEIVE INFORMATION ABOUT EVENTS, ACTIVITIES, AND OPPORTUNITIES. AN EXAMPLE OF THAT WOULD BE THE SAT. I KNOW THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND A LOT OF STUDENTS AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE SAT WAS HAPPENING OR WHEN THE DATE WAS GOING TO TAKE PLACE UNTIL TWO WEEKS BEFORE, AND SO A LOT OF STUDENTS DIDN'T HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY OR PREPARE FOR THAT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE AND PEOPLE COULDN'T DO WELL OR AS WELL AS THEY WOULD HAVE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THAT INFORMATION. A LOT OF STUDENTS HAVE HAD TO RETAKE AND POSTPONE, FOR EXAMPLE, TO AUGUST OR MAY TO TRY TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY DO BETTER BECAUSE THAT'S A BIG PART OF THEIR FUTURE IN GRADUATION AND POST-HIGH SCHOOL EVENTS. THANK YOU. >> ABSOLUTELY. >> VERY GOOD COMMENTS AND RECOGNITIONS, GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU. I HAVE A QUESTION, AND THEN I'M SURE THE BOARD MEMBERS HAVE COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS AS WELL, BUT ONE WAS ON THE PEER MEDIATION. STUDENTS, DO THEY VOLUNTEER? ARE THEY SELECTED BY TEACHERS? >> WE ARE WORKING ON AUDITIONING PROCESS THROUGH PEER MEDIATION BECAUSE WE WANT SKILLED PERFORMING PEOPLE, PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THE JOB IS, HOW TO GET IT DONE, HOW TO GET IT DONE CORRECTLY. WE ARE ALSO WORKING WITH MS. BUCKHALTON TO ALSO HELP IMPLEMENT THAT MORE, BECAUSE ONCE THOSE PEOPLE ARE AUDITIONED THROUGH US, THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE TRAINING, AND ONCE THEY GO THROUGH THE TRAINING THROUGH HER, THEN THEY CAN REFER BACK TO US AND WE CAN GET THEM STARTED. >> WONDERFUL. THANK YOU FOR THAT. >> A QUESTION ON THE SAME TOPIC. >> YES. GO AHEAD, TRUSTEE STEVEN. >> I HAD A QUESTION ON THE SAME TOPIC OF PEER MEDIATION. ARE YOU SAYING THAT WHEN THERE'S A CONFLICT WITH THE STUDENT, AND THEY WOULD COME TO YOU GUYS, OR HOW DOES THAT WORK? >> YES. DURING A PEER MEDIATION, THERE'LL BE A DISPUTED RIGHT HERE AND A DISPUTED RIGHT HERE, AND THEN THE TWO CONFLICTEES WOULD BE ACROSS FROM THEM. WE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE ON BOTH SIDES, AND WE WOULD HAVE THEM TALK ABOUT IT. WE WOULD GO THROUGH STAGES AND WAYS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY DON'T SAY ANYTHING OFFENSIVE AND/OR HURTFUL TO THE OTHER PERSON AND/OR TRY TO ATTACK THE OTHER PERSON INVOLUNTARILY OR PROVOKING THEM IN ANY WAY. THE MAIN IDEA THAT WE WANT TO GET ACROSS IS WHAT THE MAIN PROBLEM IS, HOW DID THE PROBLEM START, HOW CAN WE FIX IT AND MAKE THEM COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO FIX IT. NOT BY US. WE CAN'T GIVE OUR OPINIONS ON ANYTHING BECAUSE IT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM TO RESOLVE, IT'S THEIRS. IF THEY MAKE AN AGREEMENT, THAT'S WONDERFUL, THAT'S PERFECT, THAT'S WHAT WE CAME HERE TO DO. LESS DIRT ON ANYONE'S HANDS. IF THEY DON'T COME TO AN AGREEMENT, WE CAN EITHER REVISIT THE SITUATION IN A LATER DAY OR WE JUST COME TO A RESOLVE IN OUR OWN WAY THAT DOESN'T AFFECT BOTH PARTIES, THAT JUST MAKES EVERYTHING RESPONSIBLY HANDLED. >> HAVE YOU BEEN THROUGH THE TRAINING ALREADY? >> YES. I AM A PEER MEDIATOR. I WENT THROUGH THE TRAINING, AND IT'S LIKE THAT. YOU GET EVERYTHING ON SPOT. IF I AM TO JUST SAY, OH, I'M SORRY, THAT WOULD NOT BE A PEER MEDIATION THING. BUT IF I'M TO ACTUALLY FIST OR VIOLENCE THING, THAT'S SOMETHING YOU BRING TO PEER MEDIATION, OR THAT'S SOMETHING THAT THE TEACHERS REFER TO YOU DURING PEER MEDIATION. >> THANK YOU. >> YES. TRUSTEE DAVIS. >> I HAVE A QUESTION. AGAIN, SOMETHING YOU SAID ABOUT THE PEER MEDIATION THAT A STUDENT BRINGS TO YOU ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS ABOUT A CERTAIN STAFF MEMBER, [01:30:02] AND YOU SAID IT NEEDS TO GET BEYOND YOU, AM I CORRECT? >> YES. >> DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW IT SHOULD GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON THAT? >> FOR ME, MY MAIN IDEA WAS TO COME HERE AND EXPRESS THAT EXACTLY, BECAUSE THE MAIN THING THAT WE ARE TRYING TO EXPRESS IS THE FACT THAT KIDS AREN'T EXACTLY TRYING TO PUT STRESS OR ANY PRESSURE ON THE ADMINISTRATION OR STAFF, WE JUST WANT TO GET OUR POINTS ACROSS SOMETIMES, BUT WE CAN'T DO THAT CLEARLY IF THE ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF AREN'T WANTING TO LISTEN TO US AND/OR TRYING TO GAIN OUR MESSAGE IN A POSITIVE LIGHT. THEY'LL EITHER PROBABLY TAKE IT AS, OH, YOU'RE TRYING TO ATTACK ME, OR OH, YOU'LL TRY TO SAY THIS, YOU'RE JUST SPINNING STUFF, BECAUSE THAT HAS PERSONALLY HAPPENED TO ME, SO I KNOW HOW IT FEELS. SINCE OTHER KIDS HAVE COME TO ME AND EXPRESSED HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT IT, FOR ME, I WANT IT TO GET TO YOU ALL AND TO EXPRESS IT ALL BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY IT'S GOING TO GET FIXED UNLESS WE ALL UNDERSTAND THIS IS HAPPENING AND WE CAN FIND SOME WAY TO FIX IT IN SOME ACTION. >> THE SAME THING, MR. HUNT, I THINK YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT, WELL, LIKE THE SAT DATES AND TEST DATES AND THINGS LIKE THAT, IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS ON HOW THAT COULD BE FIXED? >> YES, MA'AM. EITHER IF IT WAS SENT OUT, I THINK, BY EMAIL OR BY SKYWARD, BECAUSE IN SKYWARD THE PRINCIPAL OR OTHER ADMINISTRATION CAN SEND OUT REMINDERS FOR STUDENTS TO RECEIVE THAT, AND IF THEY'RE CHECKING THEIR GRADES AND IF IT'S IMPORTANT TO THEM, THEN THEY'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING FOR THAT. BUT I KNOW THAT I COULDN'T FIND IT AND PEOPLE THAT I WAS TALKING TO COULDN'T FIND IT AND DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THEY COULD GET THAT INFORMATION. >> THANK YOU. >> YES, MA'AM. >> I'LL SAY, AS A TESTING COORDINATOR, THAT'S ONE OF MY ROLES. WHAT I DO IN THE SUMMER WHEN I COME BACK IN JULY IS PLAN OUT THE TESTING CALENDAR FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR, SO I'LL PUT IN THE BOY, MOY, END-OF-YEAR DATES, THE BENCHMARKS, WHATEVER TESTING THAT WE HAVE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AT HIGH SCHOOL, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR DECEMBER EOCS FOR MAKEUPS, YOUR ACT, SAT, THAT CAN BE PLANNED OUT. THEN WHAT I WOULD DO IS GIVE IT TO TEACHERS, WELL, I GIVE THEM THE FULL YEAR, BUT OF COURSE SOME THINGS NEED TO BE MODIFIED. THEN I WOULD ISSUE A TWO-MONTH CALENDAR, SO AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT'S COMING UP. I KNOW SOME SCHOOLS USE SMORES. THERE'S OTHER PLATFORMS LIKE YOU SAID, SKYWARDS, SO YOU CAN HAVE MULTIPLE MEANS OF COMMUNICATION THAT THEY KNOW AUGUST, THESE ARE TESTING DATES SEPTEMBER, THEN DO THE SAME THING FOR OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER, AND SO THEY HAVE IT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR SO IT IS NOT A SURPRISE OR GOT YOU, BECAUSE I DO HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT AT NORTH CROWLEY WHO ALSO MISSED THE SAT, SO THIS IS NOT A SURPRISE BECAUSE I TALKED TO DR. MCFARLAND ABOUT THIS. BUT TO YOUR POINT, IT WOULD HELP PARENTS AND STUDENTS BE ABLE TO PREPARE FOR THESE THINGS IN ADVANCE VERSUS SAYING, OH, WELL, NEXT WEEK, THERE'S GOING TO BE A SHUTDOWN, MONDAY WE'RE CLOSING DOWN. IF YOU HAD THE CALENDAR IN ADVANCE AND PUBLISHED IT WITHIN A TWO-MONTH TIME FRAME, YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO PLAN BETTER. >> THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? >> THE GO CENTERS SOMETIMES WILL HAVE SOME INFORMATION AS WELL, SO GET CONNECTED TO THE GO CENTER AS WELL, THEY SEND REMINDERS. I BELIEVE YOU HAVE A FOLLOW-UP ITEM THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE, SO WE'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU, TRUSTEE HUNT. >> THANK YOU. AT THE FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING, STUDENT TRUSTEE VINCENT JAMES SUGGESTED THAT WE SHOULD CONSIDER HAVING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SPEAK TO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE AND STRESSFUL EVENTS AND HOW TO BEST PREPARE FOR THAT AND HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL WHEN THEY REACH HIGH SCHOOL. SOME OF MY EXPERIENCES WITH THAT, BECAUSE WE WENT WITH MULTIPLE STUDENTS; I WENT, TRUSTEE VINCENT JAMES WENT, AND ROSE JONES WENT, SHE'S IN THE AUDIENCE. WE'VE ALL BEEN TO SOME OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, AND WE COULD SEE THEIR ATTENTION BECAUSE IT WAS IMPORTANT TO THEM, AND WE WERE ABLE TO TELL THEM, HEY, THIS IS WHAT'S SUCCESSFUL, GO TO CLASS, BE ON TIME, DO WHAT YOU NEED TO. WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCES WITH THEM AS WELL AS SOME OF THE THINGS WE'VE HAD TO LEARN SO THAT THEY COULD BE BETTER, SO THAT THEY'D BE BETTER OFF WHEN THEY CAME IN WHEN THEY STARTED. THESE STUDENTS ALSO WERE ABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS TO US AFTER [01:35:03] ALL OF THE REPRESENTATIVES THERE HAD GIVEN THEIR EXPERIENCES AND ADVICE, AND WE WERE ABLE TO FILL IN SOME OF THE BLANKS IN THEIR MINDS AND BE ABLE TO HELP THEM AND HELP THEM BE BETTER PREPARED WITH WHAT THEY NEEDED TO BRING AND HOW THEY SHOULD RESPOND AND THE MINDSET THEY NEED TO HAVE WHEN THEY GOT TO HIGH SCHOOL. WE'RE ALSO EXCITED ABOUT THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR AND OUR UPCOMING CONVERSATIONS WITH MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND PEOPLE WHO NEED OUR EXPERIENCE. THANK YOU. >> WONDERFUL. THERE'S A PLAN TO DO MORE? >> YES, MA'AM. >> MORE OF THOSE VISITS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WONDERFUL. THANK YOU. GOOD WORK. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, COMMENTS? GREAT INFORMATION, TRUSTEES. THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE'LL CONTINUE TO HEAR FROM YOU THROUGHOUT THE BOARD MEETING. FEEL FREE TO JUST LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION OR A COMMENT. AT THIS TIME, WE ARE GOING TO, LET'S SEE, WE DID THE DISTRICT FOLLOW-UP, SO WE'RE GOOD AND WE DON'T HAVE AN OPEN FORUM. WE'RE GOING TO GO RIGHT TO THE CONSENT AGENDA. [10.0 Consent Agenda] WE HAVE SEVERAL ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA. AT THIS TIME, BOARD, IF YOU'LL REVIEW THOSE ITEMS AND LET US KNOW IF THERE IS A QUESTION OR A DISCUSSION, COMMENT. >> I JUST HAD A BRIEF QUESTION WITH REGARDS TO THE POWERSCHOOL ATTENDANCE SOFTWARE. I DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS A RENEWAL OR IF IT WAS A NEW PROGRAM. >> DR. MCFARLAND. >> YES. I WANT TO ASK DR. WRIGHT TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM. >> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. MCFARLAND. POWERSCHOOL IS A NEW SOFTWARE THAT WE'VE VETTED. GIVES US MORE OPPORTUNITIES, ESPECIALLY AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL TO IDENTIFY THOSE KIDS WHO ARE CHRONIC ACROSS ALL EIGHT PERIODS. THAT'S WHAT THE PRINCIPALS WERE ASKING FOR, AND WE HOPE TO DELIVER IT TO THEM. >> JUST A FOLLOW-UP QUESTION WITH REGARD TO THE POWERSCHOOL, I'M NOT TECHY, BUT DOES IT WORK WITH THE SYSTEMS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE, LIKE WE USE SKYWARD, OUR STUDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS, DOES IT INTEGRATE? I THINK THAT'S THE WORD. IS THAT THE WORD? DOES IT INTEGRATE WITH THE SYSTEMS WE ALREADY HAVE? >> IT INTEGRATES WITH IT VERY WELL. THE OTHER ADVANTAGE, IT ALSO SENDS OUT TEXT MESSAGES TO OUR FAMILIES, AND IT'S ALSO A WAY OUR FAMILIES CAN RESPOND TO US. CURRENTLY, WE CAN SEND A ONE-WAY MESSAGE TO THEM WITHOUT A RESPONSE, BUT NOW THEY CAN RESPOND TO US, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. >> THANK YOU, DR. WRIGHT. >> YOU'RE WELCOME. >> THANK YOU, DR. HALL. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? HEARING NONE, IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA? >> I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED. >> I'LL SECOND. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS AND DR. HALL. MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE, AND WE MAY HAVE TO DO IT IN MY COMPUTER. >> BY SHOW OF HANDS IF YOU LIKE IT. >> YES, THANK YOU. MOVE TO VOTE BY SHOW OF HANDS, PLEASE. ALL IN FAVOR. THE MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU, BOARD. WE WILL MOVE ON. >> AGENDA ITEM 11.1, [11.0 Future Action Item(s)] THIS IS THE NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE BUDGET AND PROPOSED TAX RATE. THESE ARE THE NEXT SEVERAL ONES THAT ARE ALL UNDER FUTURE ACTION ITEMS. DR. MCFARLAND? >> MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KIRCHNER WILL ACTUALLY TAKE US THROUGH ALL OF THESE FUTURE ACTION ITEMS, JUST AS A HEADS UP FOR YOU TO LOOK FOR WHAT IS COMING DOWN THE PIPE. MR. KIRCHNER. >> MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR. MCFARLAND, THERE IN YOUR BOARD, BOOK YOU'LL SEE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR UPCOMING PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE BUDGET AND TAX RATE. WE'RE PROPOSING THAT BE SET FOR JUNE 20, THE LAST BOARD MEETING IN JUNE. ON THE FOLLOWING OPPORTUNITY, MR. WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND SO BE WATCHING FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM MR. FISHER ABOUT THAT. ANOTHER FUTURE ACTION ITEM WE HAVE IS WE'VE BEEN INVITED BY TASB TO SUBMIT ANY LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES AND SUBMISSIONS AS PART OF THE ADVOCACY AGENDA. THIS IS SOMETHING OUR BOARD HAS DONE IN PREVIOUS LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS, AND WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT AGAIN. ALSO, THE FOUR H RESOLUTION THAT PROVIDES ADJUSTMENTS FOR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES FROM MR. MOFFITT. THEN FINALLY, FROM TECHNOLOGY, YOU'LL BE SEEING SOME INFORMATION ABOUT OUR MICROSOFT CONTRACT RENEWAL. THIS IS THE PROGRAM THAT WE USE FOR EMAIL SHAREPOINT, ONE DRIVE IN A VARIETY OF OTHER SERVICES IN MICROSOFT ACROSS THE DISTRICT, AS WELL AS AN ADDITIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHROMEBOOK CART PURCHASE TO GET READY FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR THAT MR. FISHER AND MR. CAMPBELL HAVE BEEN WORKING ON CLOSELY. WE HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE ADMINISTRATION HERE TO ANSWER ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE, BUT ALSO CONTINUE TO WATCH FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IN THE MEETINGS TO COME. I'LL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE NOW. >> ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? THESE ARE FUTURE ACTION ITEMS. SURE. >> [INAUDIBLE] >> YES, MA'AM. IN YOUR EXHIBIT, YOU WILL SEE THE ATTACHMENT, THIS PROVIDES A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE FOR STUDENTS FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS THAT MAY NOT COME DURING THE TRADITIONAL SCHOOL DAY. BUT THAT PDF ATTACHMENT THERE HAS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT THAT APPLICATION LOOKS LIKE. IT'S SOMETHING WE SUBMIT EVERY YEAR THAT GIVES US THAT FLEXIBILITY. YES, MA'AM. >> DR [INAUDIBLE], WOULD YOU PREFER IF WE HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT SOME OF THESE ITEMS THAT WE JUST SEND THEM TO YOU OR. >> EITHER WAY, IF YOU HAVE THEM, YOU CAN SHARE THEM TONIGHT IF WE CAN ASK THEM. >> I DID JUST HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THE JUVENILE JUSTICE, BUT I'LL SEND THEM TO YOU. >> OKAY. WHAT WE'LL DO IS WE'LL PRESENT THAT ITEM THAT THE NEXT TIME WE'LL PRESENT THE DETAILS WITH THOSE. >> THANK YOU. >> WE DEFINITELY WANT TO PRESENT THE ONE ON THE ESCROW $500,000 OPPORTUNITY. >> YES WE DO. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? THANK YOU, MR. KIRCHNER. [13.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item(s)] WE HAVE THREE THAT WE'RE GOING TO START WITH AND THE FIRST ONE IS AGENDA ITEM 13.1, WHICH IS THE EMPLOYMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL FOR DAVID L WALKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL. IS THERE A MOTION? >> I RECOMMEND THE SHAN COXAM FOR THE POSITION OF PRINCIPAL AT DAVID L WALKER ELEMENTARY AS RECOMMENDED. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE STEVENSON. IS THERE A SECOND? >> I'LL SECOND. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE GRASSIA. MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE, BY A SHOW OF HANDS ALL IN FAVOR? THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY. CONGRATULATIONS, SHON COXAM OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM IS 13.5. THIS IS FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL, THE COORDINATOR OF READING ACADEMICS. IS THERE A MOTION? >> MADAM PRESIDENT, I RECOMMEND LUCY VASQUEZ FOR THE POSITION OF COORDINATOR OF READING ACADEMIES AS RECOMMENDED. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. AT THIS TIME, WE ARE AT OUR ANNUAL REORGANIZATION OF BOARD OF TRUSTEES, [14.0 Reorganization of Board of Trustees] SO THIS IS AGENDA ITEM 14.1 FOR THE ELECTION OF BOARD OFFICERS, I WROTE SOMETHING HERE. ATTORNEY DAVID, DID YOU WANT TO PRESIDE? >> THANK YOU, MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, DR. MCFARLAND AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. PURSUANT TO BOARD POLICY BDAA AND TEXAS EDUCATION CODE 11.061 BECAUSE AN ELECTION HAS JUST OCCURRED, IT IS TIME FOR THE BOARD TO VOTE ON REORGANIZATION OF OFFICERS. I WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE BEFORE THE BOARD DOES THAT TO JUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT IN TEXAS OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND OUR COMMUNITIES ARE SERVED BY PUBLIC SERVANTS LIKE YOURSELF WHO SERVE ON SCHOOL BOARDS AND GIVE YOUR TIME, GIVE YOUR LABOR, AND IT TRULY IS A LABOR OF LOVE BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT PAID. THIS IS A POSITION THAT YOU DO OUT OF PURE PUBLIC SERVICE, AND IT IS THE TRUEST FORM OF DEMOCRACY BECAUSE YOU ARE ELECTED OFFICIALS WHO WE DON'T JUST SEE ON TV TALKING AT US, YOU'RE IN YOUR COMMUNITIES INVOLVED WITH STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. FOR EACH OF YOU, I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT. OF COURSE, AS A BOARD MEMBER, YOU CANNOT ACT INDIVIDUALLY, THE BOARD ACTS AS A BODY CORPORATE. IN ORDER FOR THE BODY CORPORATE TO FUNCTION, THERE ARE CERTAIN BOARD OFFICERS THAT WE HAVE BY STATUTE, THE BOARD PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY OF BOARD OFFICERS THAT WE HAVE IN CROWLEY ISD, AND ADDITIONALLY PURSUANT TO LOCAL POLICY, CROWLEY ISD HAS POSITIONS FOR A FIRST VICE PRESIDENT AND SECOND VICE PRESIDENT. IN ORDER TO BEGIN REORGANIZING THE BOARD, I'LL START IF IT'S OKAY WITH THE BOARD WITH THE FIRST POSITION OF BOARD PRESIDENT FOR THE NEXT TERM, PURSUANT TO STATUTE, THE BOARD PRESIDENT PRESIDES OVER MEETINGS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CALLING THE BOARD TO ORDER AND PRESIDING OVER PROPOSED TAX RATE MEETINGS ALONG WITH OTHER DUTIES AS DESCRIBED IN LOCAL POLICY. FOR THE POSITION OF BOARD PRESIDENT FOR THE NEXT TERM, AT THIS TIME, I'LL OPEN THE FLOOR TO YOU MEMBERS OF THE BOARD TO EITHER VOLUNTEER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT OR TO NOMINATE ONE OF YOUR FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS FOR THAT OFFICE. >> I'D LIKE TO RECOMMEND DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD AS OUR PRESIDENT FOR THIS COMING YEAR. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE STEVENSON. I'LL PUT DOWN ONE NAME. TRUSTEE WOODSON-MAYFIELD. WOULD ANYONE ELSE LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR BOARD PRESIDENT OR LIKE TO NOMINATE SOMEONE ELSE, ONE OF YOUR FELLOW TRUSTEES TO SERVE IN THAT ROLE? >> I WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE TRUSTEE DARYL DAVIS. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE ROBINSON FOR NOMINATING TRUSTEE DARYL DAVIS TO SERVE AS BOARD PRESIDENT. MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, WOULD ANYONE ELSE LIKE TO VOLUNTEER OR NOMINATE A FELLOW BOARD MEMBER TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT FOR THE NEXT TERM? HEARING NONE, LET ME OPEN UP THE FLOOR FOR DISCUSSION AND SPECIFICALLY, DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD, TRUSTEE DAVIS. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY IN RESPONSE TO THE NOMINATIONS THAT YOU SERVE AS PRESIDENT? I'LL GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY. EITHER OF YOU CAN SPEAK UP. WHO WANTS TO GO FIRST TO JUST LET US KNOW IF YOU ACCEPT THAT NOMINATION, IF YOU WANT TO SERVE AND SAY ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SAY TO YOUR FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS INTO THE COMMUNITY. >> THANK YOU, DAVID, AND THANK YOU, TRUSTEE STEVENSON FOR THE NOMINATION. [01:50:01] I ACCEPT THE NOMINATION AND FOR ANY MEMBER OF THE BOARD, I THINK WOULD BE AN HONOR TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT. THAT BEING SAID, AS YOU MENTIONED, IT IS A LABOR OF LOVE. I THINK I'VE SERVED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AS A LEADER OF INTEGRITY. AGAIN, LEADING BY EXAMPLE, RESPECTING MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS, RESPECTING THE STAFF AND THEIR ROLES AND THEN ALSO ULTIMATELY DR. MCFARLAND AND HIS LEADERSHIP. I'VE GREATLY APPRECIATED THE COMMITMENT FROM ALL OF THE BOARD MEMBERS AND WORKING ALONGSIDE THE DISTINGUISHED BOARD THAT WE HAVE AND OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE'VE DISAGREED, WE'VE AGREED THE CONSENSUS, BUT I THINK A LEVEL OF FAIRNESS, A LEVEL OF INTEGRITY, A LEVEL OF RESPECT FOR EACH OF THE BOARD MEMBERS. I DON'T BELIEVE ANY ONE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS WOULD DISAGREE WITH ME IN THAT AREA FOR WHAT I HAVE CONTRIBUTED OR WHAT I'VE SHARED. I TRY TO BE FAIR ACROSS THE BOARD AND RESPECTFUL OF EVERYONE. AGAIN, IT'S A COMMITMENT TO SERVE ACROSS THE DISTRICT AND HAVING THE COMMITMENT AND THE AVAILABILITY TO DO THAT AND SO I'M WILLING TO DO THAT IF IT'S THE WILL OF THE BOARD. I'M ALSO SUPPORTIVE IF IT DOESN'T GO THAT WAY FOR ANYONE WHO SERVES ON THIS BOARD. >> THANK YOU, DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD, TRUSTEE DAVIS. >> THANK DAVID, I WOULD JUST FIRST LIKE TO APPRECIATE MY COLLEAGUE, TRUSTEE ROBINSON, THANK YOU FOR THE NOMINATION AND FOR THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE. IT'S AN HONOR TO SERVE, AND THIS WOULD CERTAINLY BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE CONTINUALLY ON THIS BOARD TO REPRESENT THE INTERESTS OF OUR DISTRICT. I THINK WE HAVE SOME GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING HERE IN CROWLEY ISD AND WHATEVER CAPACITY MY COLLEAGUES FEEL, I WILL BEST SERVE THE INTERESTS NOT ONLY OF THIS DISTRICT, BUT THE STUDENTS AND THE FAMILIES THAT ARE REPRESENTED HERE, I WOULD BE HONORED TO DO SO. WHATEVER THE DECISION AND THE WILL OF THE BOARD IS, I SUPPORT WHOLEHEARTEDLY. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. AT THIS TIME, UNLESS THERE ARE ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS OR ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD LIKE THEIR NAME TO BE CONSIDERED, I'LL OPEN THE FLOOR TO THE BOARD FOR ANY MOTIONS. GRASSIA, DO YOU ACCEPT THAT NOMINATION? >> YES SIR. >> ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF FIRST VICE PRESIDENT? HEARING NONE. I'LL ASK IF THERE ARE ANY MOTIONS THAT ANY BOARD MEMBER WOULD LIKE TO MAKE ON THE POSITION OF FIRST VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE BOARD. >> I'D LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION THAT WE VOTE FOR GARY GRASSIA TO BE THE FIRST VICE PRESIDENT FOR '24-'25. >> WE HAVE A MOTION, AND SO I'LL ASK THE BOARD TO VOTE BY HANDS AT THIS TIME.
