DECORUM AND COURTESY ARE IMPORTANT ELEMENTS AND ARE INEFFECTIVE PUBLIC MEETINGS.

WE'RE GOING TO MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 3.1,
[3.0 Report Item(s)]
OUR REPORT ITEM, STUDENT VOTER EMPOWERMENT CLUBS UPDATE. DR. MCFARLAND.>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.
AS YOU KNOW, ONE OF OUR GOALS IS REALLY TO HAVE EMPOWERED STAFF AND ENGAGED STUDENTS.
WE'RE EXCITED TONIGHT FOR MR. MUHAMMAD TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM. MUHAMMED.
>> GOOD EVENING, MR. PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND DR. MCFARLAND.
THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT STUDENT VOICE AND ENGAGEMENT.
LIKE DR. MCFARLAND SAID, PART OF VISION 2025, WE HAD THREE GOALS: THRIVING STUDENTS, ENGAGE COMMUNITY, AND EMPOWER STAFF, AND WE BELIEVE THAT WHAT WE'RE GOING TO PRESENT TONIGHT REALLY FOCUSES ON ALL THREE OF THOSE GOALS.
THERE'S REALLY NO BETTER WAY TO GIVE STUDENT A VOICE THAN TO HAVE THEM INVOLVED IN THE VOTING PROCESS SO THAT THEY CAN SHAPE THEIR OWN FUTURES.
WE RECENTLY PARTNERED WITH THE YMCA TO BRING YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT TO ALL THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN CROWLEY ISD.
THIS PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO FOCUS ON LEGISLATIVE BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT AND RIGHT BILLS FOCUSED ON TOPICS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO HIGHLIGHTING THEIR WORK AT A FUTURE BOARD MEETING.
TONIGHT, WE WANT TO CELEBRATE THE AMAZING WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE BY MARCH TO THE POLLS AND THE STUDENT VOTER EMPOWERMENT CLUBS.
IN A MOMENT, WE WILL HAVE JESSICA LUGO, THE PROGRAM MANAGER COME UP TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE OUTSTANDING WORK THAT SVEC IS DOING IN ADDITION TO LETTING US KNOW ABOUT SOME FUTURE EVENTS.
BUT FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE MISTY WILDER.
SHE IS THE SOCIAL ACTION CHAIR FOR THE FORT WORTH ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY INCORPORATED.
SHE IS HERE TO DISCUSS THE ROLE OF THE CHAPTER IN SUPPORTING CROWLEY ISD STUDENTS WHEN IT COMES TO STUDENT VOICE AND STUDENT VOTER EMPOWERMENT. THANK YOU.
>> GOOD EVENING. I BRING YOU GREETINGS FROM OUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT DEMETRIUS THOMPSON, WHO IS UNABLE TO BE WITH US TONIGHT.
AS A MEMBER OF THE FORWARD CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA, ONE OF OUR NATIONAL INITIATIVES IS VOTER REGISTRATION.
OUR THEME THIS YEAR IS FORTITUDE ON THE FRONTLINE.
WE HAVE BEEN PARTNERING WITH CROWLEY ISD FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS TO DO VOTER REGISTRATION.
WE'VE ALWAYS GONE TO CROWLEY AND NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL EACH YEAR FOR VOTER REGISTRATION.
BUT THIS YEAR, WE DID IT ON NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY, AND WE WERE ABLE TO REGISTER 41 STUDENTS IN TOTALITY FOR BOTH SCHOOLS.
NOT ONLY WERE WE ABLE TO COME ON VOTER REGISTRATION DAY, ONE OF OUR MEMBERS WAS ASKED TO COME BACK THE NEXT DAY TO GO TO THE GOVERNMENT CLASS.
SHE SPENT THE DAY WITH THE GOVERNMENT TEACHER AND IN THE EVENT TO EDUCATE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THEM NOT ONLY REGISTERING TO VOTE BUT MAKING SURE THAT THEY LET THEIR VOICE BE HEARD AT THE POLLS.
WE WERE ABLE TO REGISTER SOME ADDITIONAL STUDENTS AT THAT TIME.
WE THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LET US COME IN AND ENGAGE THE STUDENTS THROUGH VOTER ENGAGEMENT.
NOT ONLY DID WE REGISTER, BUT WE MADE SURE THAT THE STUDENTS WERE EDUCATED.
WE MADE SURE THAT THEY KNEW WHEN EARLY VOTING STARTED, MADE SURE THAT THEY KNEW THAT THEY NEEDED TO HAVE A VOTING PLAN SINCE THIS WOULD BE THEIR FIRST TIME VOTING.
WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNEW TO CREATE A PLAN
[00:05:02]
PRIOR TO OCTOBER THE 21ST AND TO SHOW UP AT THE POLLS.WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE FELT THAT THEY WERE WELL-EQUIPPED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS ELECTION COMING UP ON NOVEMBER THE 5TH.
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO ALLOW US TO COME INTO YOUR SCHOOLS AND REGISTER YOUR STUDENTS TO VOTE. THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]
>> AT THIS TIME, WE WILL BRING UP MISS JESSICA LUGO.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, MR. MUHAMMAD.
DR. MCFARLAND, PRESIDENT DAVIS, DISTINGUISHED BOARD MEMBERS.
IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN.
THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT MORE WITH YOU.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I APPRECIATE SO MUCH ABOUT CROWLEY ISD IS HOW WELL-SUPPORTED STUDENTS ARE, ESPECIALLY ON THEIR JOURNEY TO BE CIVICALLY ENGAGED AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE RESOURCES TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYWHERE, SO I APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT THAT YOU'VE PROVIDED THEM.
IT'S REALLY AN HONOR TO BE HERE TO TALK TO YOU AGAIN ABOUT THE WORK THAT YOUR STUDENTS ARE DOING IN THE STUDENT VOTER EMPOWERMENT CLUBS.
AS MEMBERS OF THEIR CLUBS, THEY ARE BECOMING EXPERTS ON VOTING AND ON CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
AS EXPERTS, THEY'RE MAKING SURE THAT THEIR PEERS ARE PREPARED, INSPIRED, AND COMPETENT WHEN IT'S THEIR TURN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS.
LONG TERM, THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT THEY MAKE WILL HAVE A PROFOUND POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEIR COMMUNITY.
TOGETHER, THEY'RE CHANGING THE CULTURE OF VOTING FOR THIS AGE GROUP, AND THEY DO THAT BY PLANNING HIGH-ENERGY, EXCITING, AND INFORMATIVE PROGRAMMING THAT MAKES VOTING FUN, SOCIAL, AND VISIBLE.
OUR CROWLEY CLUBS ARE LEADING MAJOR VOTER OUTREACH INITIATIVES AND SHARE RESOURCES WITH THEIR PEERS AND NEIGHBORS THAT GIVEN THE CONFIDENCE TO GET OUT AND VOTE IN EVERY ELECTION.
THEY LEAD THE CHARGE BECAUSE IN ADDITION TO BEING ON-CAMPUS VOTING EXPERTS, THEY ARE COMMUNITY EXPERTS.
THEY INTERACT WITH THEIR PEERS, THEIR NEIGHBORS, THEY KNOW THEIR LOCAL ESTABLISHMENTS.
THEY KNOW HOW TO REACH THE MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITY, AND THEY UNDERSTAND THE POWER THAT THEY HAVE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE OFTEN BEFORE THEY EVEN HAVE THE ABILITY TO VOTE FOR THEMSELVES.
IN THE '23, '24 SCHOOL YEAR, SVEC MEMBERS LED VOTER EDUCATION PRESENTATIONS AND SENIOR CLASSES AND COORDINATED MULTIPLE VOTER REGISTRATION EFFORTS.
THEY ORGANIZED COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS, MAKING PHONE CALLS AND KNOCKING ON DOORS OF NEWLY ELIGIBLE VOTERS TO REMIND THEM TO GET OUT AND VOTE IN BOTH THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT ELECTION IN NOVEMBER 23 AND THE PRIMARY ELECTIONS IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH OF 2024.
AMONG MANY OTHER THINGS, THEY HOSTED A MARCH TO THE POLLS, INVITING MORE THAN 100 OF THEIR CLASSMATES TO MAKE VOTING VISIBLE AND EXCITING.
YOU'LL HEAR MORE FROM THESE EXPERTS IN JUST A MINUTE.
BUT JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATION.
IN 2023, 2024, WE WERE ABLE TO HELP GET 22% OF THE TOTAL SENIOR CLASS AT CROWLEY AND NORTH CROWLEY REGISTERED TO VOTE WITH OUR STUDENT VOTER EMPOWERMENT CLUBS.
IN ADDITION, AFTER HEARING THE IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS THAT THE STUDENTS LED, THEIR VOTER KNOWLEDGE INCREASED.
BEFORE OUR PROGRAMMING, 27% OF STUDENTS SAID THAT THEY FELT LIKE THEY HAD SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE TO PARTICIPATE IN AN UPCOMING ELECTION.
BY THE END OF THOSE CLASSES, ALMOST 70% AGREED THAT THEY HAD SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE.
THEN THEY ALSO HELPED INCREASE VOTER TURNOUT BY MAKING THOSE PHONE CALLS AND KNOCKING ON DOORS.
IN THE RECENT LOCAL ELECTIONS, THEY WENT AND MADE PHONE CALLS.
THEY KNOCKED ON DOORS, AND THEY HAD IN THE COMMUNITIES THAT THEY ENGAGED, THE NEIGHBORHOODS THEY ENGAGED.
THEY HAD A 10% VOTER TURNOUT IN THOSE NEIGHBORHOODS, AS COMPARED TO 2% VOTER TURNOUT FOR THIS AGE GROUP, 18-21-YEAR-OLDS IN OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE METROPLEX.
LOW VOTER TURNOUT, BUT IT IS HUGELY BENEFICIAL FOR PEOPLE TO HEAR FROM THIS AGE GROUP AND KNOW HOW IMPORTANT VOTING IS.
FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR, THEY'VE ALREADY GOT THINGS UNDERWAY.
THEY'RE HELPING WITH THOSE IN-CLASS VOTER EDUCATION EFFORTS AGAIN.
IN ADDITION TO THE 40-PLUS STUDENTS THAT WERE REGISTERED BEFORE, ANOTHER 63 STUDENTS REGISTERED ON THE THREE CAMPUSES THAT WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE THOSE IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS.
THEY'RE PLANNING A PARTY AT THE POLLS ON OCTOBER 25TH, AND THEY HAVE SEVERAL GOALS FOR THIS YEAR IN TERMS OF VOTER REGISTRATION TOTALS AND VOTER TURNOUT, ALL OF WHICH THEY WANT TO SEE AN INCREASE IN FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.
I'LL STOP TALKING AND INTRODUCE YOU TO
[00:10:01]
SOME PRETTY INCREDIBLE LEADERS WHO ARE GOING TO SPEAK TO YOU FROM EACH OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS.THESE YOUNG LADIES ARE PAVING THE WAY TO ENSURE THAT THEIR CLASSMATES HAVE A VOICE IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS.
THEY'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SHARING WITH YOU A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING ON THEIR CAMPUSES TO INCREASE VOTER PARTICIPATION.
PLEASE WELCOME JUSTINE BOWIE, GABBY MILES FROM NORTH CROWLEY, EMMANUELA AMAJOR AND DESTINY CASTILLO FROM CROWLEY COLLEGIATE ACADEMY, AND MADYSON STANTON FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL. [APPLAUSE]
I AM A SENIOR AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, AND I AM THE CURRENT PRESIDENT OF SVEC.
I AM ALSO THE CURRENT PRESIDENT OF BSU AND THE VICE PRESIDENT OF OUR SENIOR CLASS.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE FOCUS ON IN SVEC IS VOTER REGISTRATION, AND ONE OF OUR MAIN PURPOSE IS TO GET AS MANY ELIGIBLE STUDENTS REGISTERED TO VOTE AT EACH ELECTIONS.
THIS YEAR, WE CALLED ALL OF OUR SENIORS TO THE LIBRARY AND WE DID A PRESENTATION JUST OF SVEC, AND OVERALL REVIEW OF SVEC AND THEN VOTER REGISTRATION AND HOW IT CAN IMPACT THEM AND WHAT THEY CAN DO TO GET REGISTERED AND GET VOTING.
LAST YEAR, THEY DID PRESENTATIONS AT CROWLEY AND NORTH CROWLEY, AND THE TOTAL SENIOR ENROLLMENT WAS 1,019 AND THE TOTAL REGISTERED WAS 228.
WE HAD 22% OF THE TOTAL SENIOR CLASS LAST YEAR.
THIS YEAR, WE DID PRESENTATIONS AT ALL THREE CAMPUSES AND WE HAD 64 TOTAL STUDENTS REGISTERED AFTER ALL OF OUR PRESENTATIONS.
THIS YEAR, MY PERSONAL GOAL IS TO HAVE A HIGHER PERCENT THAN 22 OF PEOPLE REGISTERED.
I THINK THIS YEAR, THE STUDENTS WILL BE MORE IMPACTED TO GET REGISTERED BECAUSE OF THE ELECTION THAT IS THIS YEAR.
I PERSONALLY AM NOT ELIGIBLE TO VOTE, WHICH IS WHY I'M ADVOCATING FOR IT SO MUCH, EVEN STILL BECAUSE IT'S SUCH AN IMPACT IN OUR GENERATION IN OUR AGE GROUP THAT PEOPLE GET REGISTERED TO VOTE BECAUSE THIS CAN IMPACT US IN THE FUTURE.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS ABOUT PRESENTATIONS, ESPECIALLY WITH THIS BEING A STUDENT VOTER EMPOWERMENT CLUB IS THAT THE STUDENTS HEAR FROM US.
I THINK THE STUDENTS ARE MORE RECEPTIVE TO WHAT'S BEING SAID TO THE INFORMATION THAT'S BEING PUT OUT WHEN IT COMES FROM STUDENTS.
I THINK IT BEING LED MAJORITY BY STUDENTS IS A REALLY GOOD THING.
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. [LAUGHTER] [APPLAUSE]
OUTSIDE OF SVEC, I ALSO PARTICIPATE IN OUR STUDENT COUNCIL IN THE SWIM TEAM.
HERE, SVEC, WE ALSO WANT TO INCLUDE COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND GETTING THEM REGISTERED TO VOTE WITH FAMILY MEMBERS.
WE DON'T WANT TO JUST FOCUS ON STUDENTS.
WAYS WE'VE DONE THIS IS WE HOST VOTER REGISTRATION TABLES AT SENIOR EVENTS AND ALSO AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, THEY HAD A VOTER REGISTRATION TABLE AT ATHLETIC EVENTS AND FOOTBALL GAMES, AND THEY PLAN TO CONTINUE TO DO THIS THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.
IN SVEC, I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO ENGAGING AND ADVOCATING FOR STUDENTS TO BE INCLUDED IN STUDENT-LED ELECTIONS, LIKE CLASS PRESIDENT AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
WE JUST WANT TO ADVOCATE FOR ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE VOTER REGISTRATION PROCESS. THANK YOU SO MUCH. [LAUGHTER]
>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
MY NAME IS DESTINY CASTILLO, AND I AM A SOPHOMORE MEMBER OF SVEC.
I'M ALSO INVOLVED IN SPANISH CLUB AND MANY VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES OUTSIDE OF SVEC AT CCA.
I AM HERE TO SPEAK ABOUT HOW SVEC TRULY HELPS STUDENTS MY AGE AND UP LEARN MORE ABOUT VOTING AND HOW THERE AREN'T PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS, BUT ALSO ONES IN OUR COMMUNITY.
SVEC HAS ALSO SHOWED STUDENTS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO USE OUR VOICE IF WE WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE INTO OUR COMMUNITY.
>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
TO GET THE WORD OUT, NEWLY REGISTERED VOTERS WHO ARE 18-21 AT CCA, WE HOSTED A PHONE BAKE, AND WE ALSO WOULD CALL AND TEXT THESE WHO WERE NEWLY VOTERS TO GET THE WORD OUT AND TO LET THEM UNDERSTAND THAT THEY SHOULD GO OUT AND VOTE.
WE ALSO HOSTED OTHER EVENTS AT THE OTHER CAMPUSES WHERE WE WOULD SEND NOTES AND THE POSTCARDS TO THE HOUSES OF THESE VOTERS TO REMIND THEM TO GO OUT AND VOTE.
WHILE CALLING THESE VOTERS, I TRULY ENJOYED THEM SAYING THAT THEY WOULD GO OUT AND VOTE AND LET THEIR VOICES BE HEARD.
IT REALLY BRINGS JOY TO ME BECAUSE I KNOW IT
[00:15:01]
WILL HELP MY FUTURE WITH THEM GOING OUT TO VOTE. THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]>> GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, DR. MCFARLAND.
MY NAME IS MADYSON STANTON, AND I AM CURRENTLY THE PRESIDENT OF SVEC AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
I'M HERE TO TELL YOU MORE ABOUT MARCH TO THE POLLS.
YOU MAY ASK WHAT IS MARCH TO THE POLLS? MARCH TO THE POLLS IS A PHYSICAL MARCH DOWN TO A PARK OR A POLLING LOCATION, TO GET STUDENTS JUST EXCITED ABOUT VOTING.
THE GOAL IS JUST TO CREATE EXCITEMENT.
WE HAVE GAMES, TRIVIA, WE HAVE CORN ICE. WE ACTUALLY HAVE SPEAKERS.
I THINK DR. MCFARLAND WILL BE SPEAKING THERE JUST TO GET STUDENTS ENGAGED WITH IT.
WE'RE GOING TO MARCH DOWN TO THE POLLS, WE HAVE TALENTS, WE HAVE OUR CHEERLEADERS, WE HAVE OUR BAND.
LAST YEAR, WE ACTUALLY GOT 120 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THAT MARCH, AND SIX STUDENTS AND ONE STAFF MEMBER ACTUALLY VOTED DURING THAT MARCH.
FINALLY, WE WANT TO GET YOU GUYS INVOLVED.
WE WANT TO INVITE YOU GUYS OCTOBER THE 25TH FROM 1:00-3:00 PM.
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SPEAKERS, PIZZA, CORN ICE.
HOPEFULLY, THERE WILL BE DIFFERENT FOOD TRUCKS THERE, AND WE'RE GOING TO MARCH FROM ROSENTHAL PARK TO THE SOUTHWEST COURTHOUSE. THANK YOU. [LAUGHTER] [APPLAUSE]
>> THANK YOU. IF IT'S OKAY, IF THERE'S ENOUGH TIME, WOULD IT BE OKAY FOR THEM TO TELL YOU SOME OF THE INITIATIVES THEY'RE PLANNING FOR THIS YEAR OR WHAT THEY'RE MOST EXCITED ABOUT? WE'LL JUST DO REALLY QUICK.
>> HI. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT THIS YEAR IS JUST MAKING SURE THAT ALL OF OUR SENIORS ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE, ADVOCATING FOR THAT BECAUSE THIS YEAR IS REALLY IMPORTANT AND THIS ELECTION HAS BEEN BROADCASTED EVERYWHERE, SO I THINK THIS ELECTION IS VERY IMPORTANT TO OUR SENIORS, AND IF THERE'S ONE THING THAT THEY DO BESIDES GRADUATE, IT SHOULD BE REGISTERED TO VOTE.
I MYSELF, I AM GOING TO PERSONALLY ADVOCATE FOR GETTING OUR SENIORS REGISTERED TO VOTE.
>> THIS YEAR, PERSONALLY, I WANT TO START GETTING MORE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN SVEC.
AT NORTH CROWLEY, WE DON'T HAVE THAT MANY CLUB MEMBERS, SO I WANT TO START DOING MORE OUTREACH SO JUST ALL STUDENTS CAN BE EDUCATED ABOUT VOTING.
>> THIS YEAR, I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT SEEING ALL MY CLASSMATES BEING ABLE TO VOTE IN THIS UPCOMING ELECTION AND SEEING HOW MUCH THEIR VOICE CAN MAKE AN IMPACT.
>> THIS YEAR, I'M MOST EXCITED TO RUN THE VOTER BOOTS THAT I DO AT MY SCHOOL, AND THEN ALSO THE TRIPS TO THOSE EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETINGS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE THINGS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
>> THIS YEAR, I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT GETTING MORE ADVOCATES.
WE HAD OUR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT OVER THE SUMMERTIME.
WE ACTUALLY HAD A COUPLE OF SPEAKER THERE'S, LIKE PAUL QUENTIN.
I THINK SPACE BOY FRESH WAS THERE.
NOW THAT AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL WE'RE MORE ENGAGED, WE'RE GREETING MORE MEMBERS, I DON'T THINK THAT'S A TOP PRIORITY FOR US NOW BECAUSE MOST OF THE TIME WHEN STUDENTS HEAR ABOUT IT, THEY WANT TO HEAR ABOUT PEOPLE THAT THEY KNOW OR PEOPLE LOOK UP TO CELEBRITIES.
MOST OF THE TIME WHEN PEOPLE SEE FAMILIAR FACES, THEY GO FOR THAT.
MY THING THAT I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT IS GETTING PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT YOU KNOW.
BASICALLY, PAUL QUENTIN, DIFFERENT ADVOCATES THAT WE HAVE AROUND THE COMMUNITY, SHOWING THEM THAT IS AVAILABLE TO THEM.
IT'S NOT JUST THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.
THERE'S PEOPLE AROUND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD THAT CAN ACTUALLY ADVOCATE FOR YOU THAT THINGS THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU.
MAYBE VOTING ON THE BOARD, DIFFERENT THINGS AROUND THE CITY, SMALL THINGS LIKE THAT.
IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
JUST GETTING DIFFERENT ADVOCATES AROUND OUR COMMUNITY, SO STUDENTS ACTUALLY SEE THAT THIS IS MAKING AN IMPACT ON THEIR LIVES.
THAT'S THE THING THAT I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT.
THANK YOU. [LAUGHTER] [APPLAUSE]
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT I CAN ANSWER FOR YOU ABOUT THE CLUBS OR ANYTHING THAT WE'RE DOING THIS YEAR?
>> I'LL YIELD TO MY COLLEAGUES, CRUSTY STEVENSON.
>> I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU LADIES FOR PARTICIPATING AND ALSO ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF YOUR STUDENTS.
BUT I ALSO LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS THE AGE RANGE FOR SOMEONE TO BE INVOLVED IN YOUR CLUB?
ANYBODY FROM ANY GRADE CAN JOIN OUR CLUB.
WE FOCUS ON THE SENIORS, JUST BECAUSE WE WANT TO GET REGISTERED, BUT ANYBODY CAN JOIN AND REGISTER ADVOCATING FOR GIVING MORE INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT GOES ON IN THEIR AREA. A.
>> LONG WITH WHAT SHE SAID, MOST OF OUR MEMBERS ARE NOT SENIORS.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A SENIOR TO BE A PART OF THIS WAY TO JUST VOICE
[00:20:03]
YOUR OPINION ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL OR TRYING TO PERSUADE YOUR STUDENTS THAT THE VOTING IS FOR.WE CAN START FROM NINTH GRADE.
I KNOW OUR CLUB DIDN'T START UNTIL I WAS IN 10TH GRADE, BUT THAT'S JUST BECAUSE WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT, BUT NOW THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE A CLUB, YOU WANT TO INDUCE OUR STUDENTS THAT YOU CAN JOIN IN NINTH GRADE, SO DEFINITELY GET THAT OUT THERE.
>> I ALSO LIKE TO SAY, THANK YOU FOR THE INVITATION.
[LAUGHTER] I'D LOVE TO BE THERE. THANK YOU.
>> YES. I, TOO, WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE SPONSOR, AND TO DELTA SIGMA THETA FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
ONE THING I WANT TO SAY IS, THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I GOT STARTED.
IT WASN'T THROUGH MY SCHOOL, IT WAS THROUGH MY CHURCH.
BUT WE DID THINGS JUST LIKE WHAT YOU'RE DOING NOW, SO I'M JUST SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS BECAUSE IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. DOCTOR WOODSON-MAYFIELD.
>> YES. I AM THANK YOU, PRESIDENT DAVIS.
I AM SUPER EXCITED, BUT SO PROUD OF THESE YOUNG PEOPLE.
THEY MAKE ME PROUD AND THEY'RE BOLD.
THEY ARE THE WAY THEY SPEAK, AND WHEN I SAY THAT, I MEAN, THEY'RE NOT AFRAID TO SHARE THIS KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE, BUT ALSO THE ADVOCACY IN THE PASSION IN THEIR VOICES.
I HAVE CHILLS AFTER HEARING YOU AND I DON'T KNOW WHY EVERY STUDENT EITHER IS NOT A MEMBER. THAT'S THE GOAL.
I'D LIKE IS TO MAKE SURE ALL OF OUR STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED IN THE PROCESS, AND SO WHAT YOU ARE DOING, LEADING THIS EFFORT, IT'S A HUGE PROUD MOMENT FOR CROWLEY ISD.
I'M SUPER PROUD, BUT THANKFUL TO EACH OF YOU FOR LEADING THE CHARGE, LEADING THIS EFFORT, AND SO I JUST SAY ONWARD AND KEEP UP WITH THE INVITATIONS TO BOARD MEMBERS, TO COMMUNITY LEADERS.
WE HAVE FAITH-BASED COMMUNITIES.
WE HAVE PARENTS, GET EVERYONE INVOLVED BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT AND I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU SAID.
IT'S NOT JUST THE BIG ELECTION IN NOVEMBER OR PRESIDENTIAL EVERY FOUR YEARS, IT'S EVERY ELECTION.
THE LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER, AND SO I REALLY DO WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU AND JUST SAY, "WE'RE APPLAUDING AND WE'RE CHEERING YOU ON, SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK." THANK Y'ALL.
>> AND SO YOU ARE THE SPONSOR.
>> YES. HELLO. I AM MS. LEWIS.
I'M THE SPONSOR AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
I'VE BEEN THE SPONSOR FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.
>> AWESOME. WELL, I WANT TO ECHO THE WORDS OF MY COLLEAGUES.
WE ARE TREMENDOUSLY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT IT IS THAT Y'ALL ARE DOING, BUT EVEN MORE THAN THAT, WE ARE SO OF THE WORK THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING.
YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED THE IMPACT ONE PERSON CAN HAVE AND JUST THE FACT THAT Y'ALL ARE CREATING A COMMUNITY OF INVOLVEMENT.
I'M OF THE MIND THAT YOUR ACTUAL VOTE, THAT'S THE END OF THE PROCESS.
BUT ALL OF THE THINGS THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING LEADING UP TO, THAT'S WHERE THE REAL WORK IS, GETTING INDIVIDUALS EXCITED ABOUT THEIR VOICES BEING HEARD, SO Y'ALL ARE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB.
MY ONLY QUESTION IS, HOW CAN WE BETTER SUPPORT YOU? IS THERE SOMETHING THAT WE CAN BETTER DO TO SUPPORT Y'ALL?
>> I WILL SAY [INAUDIBLE] FOR THE EVENT THAT WE HAVE ON OCTOBER 25TH, JUST TO ECHO WHAT SHE SAID.
THAT'S A REALLY BIG THING WE'VE BEEN PUSHING KIDS FOR.
WE HAD THE MEETING AT NORTH CROWLEY AND THE LIBRARY.
KIDS WERE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT WE ALREADY HAVE ABOUT 30, 40 STUDENTS REGISTERED TO GO ATTEND THIS EVENT AS WELL I BELIEVE THERE'S LIKE 30 OR 40 AT CROWLEY AND CCA AS WELL.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED FOR THAT. WE REALLY LOVE YOU GUYS THAT COME OUT.
DR. MCFARLAND SPOKE LAST YEAR.
IT WAS GREAT. HE SPOKE VERY WELL.
THE KIDS WERE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
>> CONSIDER IT DONE. [LAUGHTER]
>> WILL YOU BE PASSING THINGS FOR THE COMMUNITY AROUND?
>> YES. WE'LL BE PASSING OUT THINGS FOR THE COMMUNITY WHO ARE AROUND THERE SO THEY CAN COME ON AND VOTE WITH US AS WELL.
>> I JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE SUGGESTION THAT YOU HAVE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS OUR LIST SERVE WITH REGARDS TO E-MAIL ADDRESSES FROM PARENTS AND COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE THAT ARE OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND CONSTITUENTS HERE.
I KNOW THAT Y'ALL ARE INDEPENDENT WOMEN, AND IT SEEMS Y'ALL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING, BUT I WOULD ALSO ENCOURAGE YOU TO REACH OUT TO PARENTS TO LET THEM KNOW, AND FOR THEIR STUDENTS SAKE THAT THIS ACTIVITY IS GOING ON, I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE FOR YOU TO SHATTER YOUR RECORD
[00:25:02]
WITH LAST YEAR'S PARTICIPATION FOR THIS EVENT, SO WE WILL DEFINITELY BE THERE.I SAW MS. DAVIS AS WELL AS I PUTTING IT ON OUR CALENDARS ALREADY, SO WE HAVE AN ALARM FOR YOU.
I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING Y'ALL ON THE 25TH, SO KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. [APPLAUSE] I'LL ALSO SAY GREAT JOB PRESENTING TONIGHT, LADIES.
SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON THAT.
ALSO, THANK YOU TO OUR D9 PARTNERS, DELTA SIGMA THETA, SORORITY INCORPORATED.
WE APPRECIATE YOU ALL'S PARTNERSHIP WITH US AND CERTAINLY TO MR. MUHAMMAD.
THANK YOU, SIR FOR THE WORK THAT YOU CONTINUE TO DO IN PROVIDING THIS SPACE FOR OUR STUDENT VOICES TO BE HEARD.
ARE THERE ANY PARENTS OF THESE AMAZING CROWLEY ISD SCHOLARS IN THE ROOM?
>> MR. MILES WALKING UP, SO I KNOW HE'S PEACOCK PROUD.
[LAUGHTER] AGAIN, THANK YOU PARENTS FOR ALSO SUPPORTING THIS EFFORT.
>> SORRY, I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION.
ALONG WITH YOU WHEN YOU SAID SPREAD THE WORD, JUST ONE THING THAT WE COULD OFFER OR THAT YOU COULD DO FOR US IS MAYBE POSTED ON THE CROWLEY ISD INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK, THINGS LIKE THAT.
I KNOW AT MY SCHOOL, WE WERE THINKING ABOUT SENDING AN A BROADCASTING E-MAIL TO ALL THE STUDENTS, ALL THE PARENTS BECAUSE MOST OF THE TIME IT'S DURING SCHOOL, SO UNLESS YOU'RE CODED OUT, DURING THAT SCHOOL, YOU PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO GO.
YOUR PARENTS ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO GO TO EVEN IF THEY HAVE WORK AND STUFF, BUT JUST PEOPLE AROUND THE COMMUNITY.
I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE LOOK AT THE CROWLEY ISD WEBSITE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
MAYBE JUST POSTING IT ON THERE AND JUST GETTING THE WORD.
>> ABSOLUTELY. THANK Y'ALL SO MUCH.
[LAUGHTER] WELL, WE WILL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 3.2 VISION 2030 STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE FUTURE DATE, DR, MCFARLAND.
>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE NOW HAVE MR. KIRSCHNER HERE TO PRESENT THE VISION 2030.
>> THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. MCFARLAND.
AS MR. MUHAMMAD SAID, HE MENTIONED OUR VISION 2025 PLAN THAT'S BEEN IN PLACE FOR FIVE YEARS NOW THAT HAS THREE MAIN GOALS FOR THRIVING STUDENTS AND ENGAGED COMMUNITY AND EMPOWERED STAFF.
WE ARE HARD AT WORK ON VISION 2030.
WE'RE GOING TO PROVIDE A VERY BRIEF UPDATE TONIGHT, AND KNOW THAT IN NOVEMBER, YOU'LL GET A MORE IN DEPTH LOOK AT WHAT THAT PLAN IS LOOKING LIKE.
YOU'LL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE YOUR INPUT AND CONSIDERATIONS AND FACTORS IN THAT, BUT WE JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT SINCE APRIL, SIX MONTHS AGO IS WHEN Y'ALL APPROVED US PARTNERING WITH ENGAGE TO LEARN TO ENSURE THAT WE WERE GETTING COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND INPUT FROM A VARIETY OF STAKEHOLDERS IN DIVISION 2030.
THAT WAS SIX MONTHS AGO AND A LOT HAS HAPPENED IN THOSE SIX MONTHS.
WE'VE TRIED TO JUST COMBINE IT DOWN INTO A 62ND VIDEO JUST SHOW YOU SOME OF THE FACES THAT HAVE INVOLVED THES PAST SIX MONTHS.
WATCH THIS AND THEY'LL INTRODUCE YOU TO A COUPLE OF FOLKS.
>> THAT'S A STUDENT PANEL THAT HERE IN THE BOARD ROOM.
WE RECOGNIZE SOME OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL, ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS THERE WHO PLAYED A ROLE.
WE HAVE PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
MANY OF THEM WERE RECOMMENDED BY Y'ALL.
WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM OF DISTRICT AND CAMPUS EDUCATORS FOR CROSS TURNED INTO A WAR WITH LOTS OF WORK HAPPENING THE SEVERAL YEARS.
EACH TEAM HAS A NAME AND THEY'RE POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT THEIR GROUP AND THE PROGRESS THEY'RE MAKING IN THEIR SPECIFIC GOAL AREAS.
THAT'S DR. CRYSTAL CROSS, OUR FACILITATOR WITH THIS, AND WE'VE HAD LOTS OF CELEBRATING ALREADY, AND WE'RE EXCITED TO, AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO BRING YOU ALL THE PLAN OF WHAT VISION 2030 IS SHAPING UP TO BE.
IN THOSE SIX MONTHS, WE'VE OF COURSE, TAKEN THE COMMUNITY SURVEY THAT YOU SAW GO OUT, WE HAD MORE THAN 1,500 PARTICIPANTS TAKE TIME TO TALK ABOUT A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE FUTURE.
THIS WASN'T NECESSARILY A SURVEY ABOUT A HOT TOPIC.
SOMETIMES THOSE GET A LOT OF ENGAGEMENT.
WE HAD 1,500 PEOPLE TAKE A SURVEY ABOUT THE VISION FOR CROWLEY LSD IN THE FUTURE.
WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. WE'VE HOSTED FOCUS GROUPS.
THE GROUP HAS DEVELOPED A CALL TO ACTION, THEIR BELIEFS, DEVELOP LEARNER OUTCOMES, AND A LEARNER PROFILE, BUT ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS I WANTED TO SHARE WITH OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY IS THE BELIEF STATEMENT THAT THIS GROUP PUT TOGETHER.
IT'S THERE IN THE GREEN. WE BELIEVE A HIGH QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION IS A HUMAN RIGHT AND AS AN EQUALIZER FOR ALL STUDENTS.
IT'S THAT BELIEF THAT'S THE FOUNDATION OF ALL THE WORK THAT'S HAPPENING.
[00:30:05]
I'M GOING TO INVITE A COUPLE OF OUR REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FRONT.I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU WHAT THEY'RE NOW STILL WORKING ON ALONG WITH DISTRICT LEVEL LEADERSHIP, THE SPECIFIC GOALS, THE RESULTS FROM THOSE GOALS, AND WHAT THE TIMELINE FOR ALL THIS TO HAPPEN THROUGHOUT VISION 2030 IS.
BUT TONIGHT, I WANT TO INTRODUCE TO YOU MS. LILLIAN CRAIG.
SHE'S A PARENT WITH STUDENTS AT JUNE W DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL.
WE HAVE MS. TAMARA JONES, A PARENT AT CROWLEY NINTH GRADE, AND WE HELP ANOTHER PARENT.
HER DAUGHTER GRADUATED FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL LAST YEAR, IS NOW AT UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS, AND MS. HALPIN STILL CONTINUES TO WORK HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
I WANTED TO INTRODUCE THEM TO Y'ALL.
I WANT TO JUST ASK YOU REAL QUICK. PIPKIN, THANK YOU.
ONE OF OUR TDSIS, TEACHER DEVELOPMENT STUDENT INVENTIONS, AND SO THANK YOU, MISS PIPKIN FOR BEING HERE AS WELL.
I JUST WANTED TO ASK YOU REAL FAST, FROM A PARENT PERSPECTIVE AND NOW AN EDUCATOR'S PERSPECTIVE.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE OF THE PROCESS OF THE WHOLE STRATEGIC PLAN? [INAUDIBLE]
>> IT'S BEEN A VERY NOVEL EXPERIENCE FOR ME.
I'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING QUITE LIKE THIS.
AS A PARENT, I SEE DAY TO DAY THE FRONT LINES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE TEACHERS, NOT REALLY KNOWING WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND THE SCENES AND ALL THE INNER WORKINGS THAT EVERY EMPLOYEE DOES TO CREATE CURRICULUM TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERY STUDENT'S NEEDS ARE BEING MET AND THAT WAS VERY EYE OPENING.
EVERYBODY IN THIS GROUP IS REPRESENTING A PIECE OF OUR COMMUNITY, AND YOU CAN'T REALLY CAPTURE A VISION WITHOUT GETTING INPUT FROM ALL OF THOSE MEMBERS.
I FEEL REALLY CONFIDENT THAT WE ARE GOING TO PRESENT SOMETHING AMAZING AND THAT WILL PLEASE EVERYBODY IN OUR COMMUNITY BECAUSE YOU'RE HEARING IT FROM ALL OF US.
IT'S ALSO BEEN VERY INTERESTING TO HEAR WHAT IT'S LIKE FOR TEACHERS AND WHAT THEY GO THROUGH AND THE THINGS THAT THEY SEE AND JUST KNOWING THAT THERE ARE TRULY A GREAT AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT CARE FOR OUR KIDS, THAT I'M LEAVING THEM IN GOOD HANDS.
I HAVE TO SAY THAT AMONG ALL THE SCHOOLS MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN TO, MY HUSBAND IS A RETIRED MILITARY, AND THEY'VE BEEN TO SCHOOL ALL OVER THE NATION.
THIS IS REALLY ONE OF THE BEST SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT THEY HAVE ATTENDED.
THEY HAVE HAD THE BEST SUPPORT.
THAT IS A WONDERFUL SCHOOL, AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT MY KIDS HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO HAVE THAT EXPERIENCE THERE.
I'M FORTUNATE TO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE TO CONTRIBUTE AND TO HELP, AND I I THANK YOU'ALL FOR THAT.
>> THANK YOU MS. REG. MS. JONES.
>> I AM A PARENT THAT'S FAIRLY NEW TO THE DISTRICT.
I DO HAVE TWO ALUMNI STUDENTS.
ONE STARTED IN CROWLEY HER SENIOR YEAR, THE OTHER STARTED HER SOPHOMORE YEAR.
THIS YEAR, I HAVE A FRESHMAN AT THE NINTH GRADE CENTER.
WE NEVER STARTED AT THE NINTH GRADE CENTER.
FOR ME, IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE HOW MUCH PLANNING GOES INTO THEIR DAY TO DAY.
AS A PARENT, I THINK SOMETIMES WE JUST DROP OUR KIDS OFF AND HOPE THAT THEY'RE DOING WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO.
BUT ACTUALLY BEING A PART OF THE PROCESS AND SEEING THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING, AND KNOWING THAT THERE WAS A PLAN MADE BEFORE WE EVEN GOT HERE, AND KNOWING THAT THERE'S A PLAN FOR HER FUTURE WAS VERY PROMISING.
WE ARE A FAMILY THAT HAD BEEN IN A DIFFERENT DISTRICT.
WE WERE IN A PRIVATE SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS, AND MY KIDS SAID THAT THEY WANTED TO GO TO PUBLIC SCHOOL.
TO BE HONEST, I DID NOT WANT THEM TO GO TO PUBLIC SCHOOL BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE THIS STATEMENT BEFORE.
BEING ABLE TO BE IN THE DISTRICT FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS, I DO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE GETTING A QUALITY EDUCATION.
I HAVE TWO STUDENTS THAT HAVE ALREADY GRADUATED AND GONE TO COLLEGE.
MY DAUGHTER GRADUATED IN MAY, AND SHE WAS ONE OF THE MILLION DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP EARNERS.
SHE'S AT HBCU RIGHT NOW ON A FULL RIDE BECAUSE OF THE EDUCATION THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO GET IN CROWLEY ISD.
BEING ABLE TO BE A PART OF THAT AND KNOW THAT WHEN MY CHILD GRADUATES, SHE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXCEL IN THIS DISTRICT, AND IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A PRIVATE EDUCATION.
>> THANK YOU MISS JOHNSON. [INAUDIBLE], WHAT'S YOUR PERSPECTIVE AS AN EDUCATOR IN CROWLEY ISD IN THIS PROCESS?
>> AS AN EDUCATOR, THIS IS MY FOURTH YEAR IN CROWLEY.
I CAME FROM GRAND PRAIRIE, AND THE AMOUNT OF FAMILY AND LOVE IN THIS DISTRICT IS PHENOMENAL.
BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS VISION 2030 EXPERIENCE, SHOWED ME THE CARE AND PASSION THAT CROWLEY REALLY PUTS INTO NOT JUST THE STUDENTS,
[00:35:06]
BUT THE STAFF IN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL, WHICH IS OUR THREE GOALS.IT WAS A PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE.
MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAY WAS THE STUDENT PANEL.
WE TOOK THEIR INPUT AND WE MADE SURE THAT IT WAS PUT INTO THE GOALS OF EACH SECTION.
>> SOMETHING YOU INSPECTED AND AN EDUCATOR.
>> I GUESS I HAVE BOTH OF THOSE, PLUS I WAS A COMMUNITY MEMBER FOR A LONG TIME.
IT WAS AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE TO BE PART OF THIS GROUP.
IT'S WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THAT I'VE BEEN PART OF OUTSIDE OF MY SCHOOL, AS LONG AS I'VE BEEN 21 YEARS IN CROWLEY ISD.
IT WAS WONDERFUL SEEING ALL THE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, DIFFERENT LEVELS, THE PARENTS, AND THE STUDENTS THAT CAME TO SPEAK WITH US.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WOULD THINK THAT STUDENTS WOULD HAVE TO SAY, WAS NOT WHAT THEY SAID TO US.
IT WAS SO IMPACTFUL FOR EVERYONE THAT WAS THERE.
THAT'S WHY WE WORKED SO HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING THAT THEY TOLD US WAS INCLUDED IN THIS PLAN.
I FEEL LIKE WE WORK TIRELESSLY WITH A LOT OF VERY PASSIONATE PEOPLE TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING THAT I THINK IS GOING TO MAKE EVERYONE IN THIS COMMUNITY VERY PROUD. THANK YOU
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING ON VISION 2030 COMMITTEE.
THEY'VE GOT THE IDEAS AND WE'VE GOT A DRAFT AND SO NOW LEADERSHIP IS LOOKING AT IT.
THE COMMITTEE IS GOING TO CONTINUE REVIEWING AND THEN BOARD GIVE YOU OF COURSE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHECK IT OUT, ASK YOUR QUESTIONS, ADD YOUR INPUT.
BUT WE JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT THIS IS A COMMUNITY DRIVEN PLAN AND WE CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO SEE IT.
ANY QUESTIONS FOR OUR COMMITTEE TONIGHT?
>> I JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU LADIES FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT AND THANK YOU FOR THE GIVING OF YOUR TIME.
ONE OF THE THINGS I THINK THAT I'M MOST PROUD OF AND YOU HIT ON CROWLEY ISD IS THE ATTENTION AND THE CARE THAT WE GIVE TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS, OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STUDENTS, AND OUR STAFF.
THANK YOU FOR DONATING YOUR TIME AND OFFERING YOUR PERSPECTIVE AND ALWAYS SHARING YOUR STUDENTS AND YOUR GREATEST GIFT WITH US.
LIKE YOU SAID, THE WORK IS NOT DONE AND I HOPE THAT YOU WILL STAY ENGAGED WITH US AND CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THAT FEEDBACK SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO HAVE THE OUTCOMES THAT WE'RE HAVING IN CROWLEY ISD. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT HALL. TRUSTEE, STEVENSON.
>> AGAIN, YES, I'D LIKE TO THANK EACH ONE OF YOU AS WELL.
IT'S SO AMAZING TO HAVE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
WHAT I WISH WE COULD DO IS GET EVERY PARENT THAT HAS A CHILD IN CROWLEY ISD INVOLVED SO THAT THEY CAN SEE THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON IN CROWLEY ISD.
I JUST WANT TO COMMEND EACH OF YOU FOR AGAIN TAKING YOUR TIME OUT OF YOUR DAY AND BEING A PART OF THIS INITIATIVE. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE, STEVENSON. TRUSTEE, DAVIS.
>> THANK YOU. ALONG WITH THAT COMMENT, I'M GOING TO ASK YOU THAT YOU SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER PARENTS AND OTHER TEACHERS AND ANYBODY THAT YOU SEE THAT WILL LISTEN TO YOU BECAUSE WE ARE DOING A LOT OF GREAT THINGS, AND IT'S LIKE THE BEST KEPT SECRET, AND WE DON'T WANT IT TO BE A SECRET.
WE WANT PARENTS AND OTHER STAFF MEMBERS TO KNOW ABOUT OUR INTENTIONALITY AND WHAT WE'RE DOING, SO SHARE.
>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.
>> GOOD EVENING. I'D LIKE TO ECHO ALL OF MY BOARD MEMBER COLLEAGUES.
MISS ALVIN, I'VE KNOWN YOU FOR A LONG TIME.
YOU DO WORK ALL THE TIME TO MAKE THIS COMMUNITY, THIS DISTRICT, A BETTER DISTRICT.
THE OTHER THING THAT I NEED TO SAY IS ALL OF THESE LADIES THAT HAVE BEEN OVER THE LAST 30 MINUTES, THEY ALL ARE AWESOME.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE THESE GUYS ARE.
[LAUGHTER] BUT Y'ALL ARE AMAZING.
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS, TRUSTEES? WELL, LADIES, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.
YOU ALL HAVE SPOKEN TO AND HAVE PERSONIFIED THIS MANTRA THAT WE HAVE HERE IN CROWLEY ISD, THAT WE ACT LIKE A FAMILY AND WE WORK LIKE A TEAM.
TO HEAR YOU ALL SPEAK TO THE FAMILY FIELD THAT WE HAVE HERE IN OUR DISTRICT, IT REALLY IS INTENTIONAL.
I CERTAINLY THINK THAT IT IS APROPOS FOR US TO CELEBRATE OUR SUPERINTENDENT WHO
[00:40:02]
LEADS THAT CHARGE IN ENSURING THAT WE HAVE A FAMILY AND A TEAM ENVIRONMENT HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.THANK YOU ALL AND I ECHO, TRUSTEE DAVIS, LET EVERYBODY KNOW.
THIS IS HOW WE DO IT IN CROWLEY ISD.
THANK YOU, LADIES SO MUCH FOR YOUR WORK AND THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.
[APPLAUSE] IF WE CAN, BEFORE OUR SVEC STUDENTS LEAVE, CAN WE TAKE A QUICK PICTURE WITH YOU ALL? JUST BOARD MEETINGS, WE KNOW YOU START HEADING FOR THE DOOR AFTER A FEW MINUTES.
[LAUGHTER] WE GO [LAUGHTER] [BACKGROUND] WE WILL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 3.3 STUDENT ENROLLMENT UPDATE. DR. MCFARLAND.
>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE HERE TONIGHT TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE OF OUR STUDENT ENROLLMENT. MISS BETTES.
>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD, PRESIDENT DAVIS, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DR. MCFARLAND.
JUST IN THE NEWS THAT YOU ALREADY KNOW, WE'RE STILL GROWING WELL.
TONIGHT, I'M GOING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT HOW OUR STUDENTS ARE THRIVING IN THE AREA OF ENROLLMENT.
AS OF TODAY, WE HAVE 17,106 STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD.
ELEMENTARY IS AT 8,052 STUDENTS, AND SECONDARY ENROLLMENT IS AT 8,962 STUDENTS.
THIS CONCLUDES MY REPORT AT THIS TIME.
>> THANK YOU, MISS BETTES. TRUSTEES, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS. VICE PRESIDENT HALL.
>> I DON'T WANT TO PUT YOU ON THE SPOT BUT LET'S JUST ANTICIPATE, WHENEVER YOU BRING THESE NUMBERS, CAN YOU TELL US HOW FAR AHEAD OF SCHEDULE WE ARE? BECAUSE I KNOW THAT WE HAVE THAT OLD LITTLE CHART THAT THEY PRESENT EVERY YEAR AND I JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE 17,106 WITHIN 2024.
>> FROM THE DEMOGRAPHERS REPORT, NO, MA'AM.
BUT WE'RE STILL NOT ON THAT RED LINE WHERE THE HIGH TRIM, BUT WE'RE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE AND WE HAVE A QUARTERLY REVIEW COMING UP WITH THE DEMOGRAPHER IN THE [NOISE] FOLLOWING WEEK.
BY DECEMBER, WE CAN GET THE NICE CHART AND HAVE THAT FOR YOU.
DO WE STILL HAVE SOME IN THE QUEUE WAITING TO BE ENROLLED?
>> YES. THE WAIT ON THE QUEUE IS BASICALLY PARENT DOCUMENTS AND JUST NEW PEOPLE ENROLLING EVERY DAY, BUT NOTHING BECAUSE OF A LACK OF OUR RESPONSIVENESS IN GETTING THOSE INDIVIDUALS SEATED.
OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES NEXT MONTH OR LATER THIS MONTH, YOU ALL WILL BE VOTING ON CLASSROOM SIZE WAIVERS.
WE DO HAVE A LARGE AMOUNT OF WAIVERS IN COMPARISON TO OUR PREVIOUS YEARS.
BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT WE HAVE A NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THAT WILL BE OPENING UP NEXT FALL TO ALLEVIATE THAT.
OUR FASTEST GROWING CAMPUSES STILL ARE CURRENTLY S. H CROWLEY, AND DAVID L. WALKER.
AS YOU ALL SEE ALL THE BUILDINGS COMING UP, OUR HOMES COMING UP.
THEN WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AT POSSIBLY POYNTER.
THAT'S A NEW ONE ON THE RADAR.
POYNTER BEING ANOTHER AREA OF WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF SEAT.
IT'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF NEW GREAT INFORMATION.
>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, TRUSTEES? THANK YOU, MISS BETTES.
[00:45:05]
>> [LAUGHTER] YES, WE CAN. CAN YOU PAUSE FOR JUST A SECOND, MR. KIRSCHNER? WE ALSO WOULD LIKE TO GET A PICTURE WITH OUR 2030 PLANNING REPRESENTATIVES AS WELL.
LADIES, DO YOU ALL MIND COMING DOWN FOR A BRIEF PICTURE WITH US? WE WILL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 3.4 SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT SUMMARY. DR. MCFARLAND.
>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KIRSCHNER IS HERE TO JUST PROVIDE YOU A BRIEF SUMMARY OF OUR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS. MR. KIRSCHNER.
>> THANK YOU. PRESIDENT DAVIS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR. MCFARLAND, THIS REPORT ALSO ALIGNS WITH ALL THREE GOALS, THRIVING STUDENTS TO ENGAGE, COMMUNITY AND POWER STAFF.
AS YOU JUST HEARD FROM MISS BETTES, CROWLEY ISD STUDENT ENROLLMENT CONTINUES TO GROW BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW AND THE SECRET'S OUT CROWLEY ISD IS THE PLACE TO BE.
WE ARE PROUD OF OUR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS BECAUSE THEY HIGHLIGHT ALL OF THE AMAZING THINGS HAPPENING IN CROWLEY ISD.
THESE WENT BEYOND THOSE STAR ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS THAT THE STATE HAS NOT BEEN ISSUING FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.
BOARD, LAST YEAR, YOU ALL MADE THE DECISION TO START ISSUING THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS, PACKED FULL OF THE METRICS THAT MATTER TO THE COMMUNITY.
YES, ACADEMIC RESULTS ARE ON THERE, BUT ITEMS INCLUDING STUDENT ATTENDANCE, STAFF INFORMATION, POSITIVE BEHAVIOR, PROGRAMS, SUPPORTS IN PLACE FOR STUDENTS.
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. IT'S ALL PACKED INTO A ONE PAGER THAT ARE ALL ON OUR WEBSITE AND AVAILABLE AT OUR CAMPUSES.
THERE'S ONE FOR CROWLEY ISD, AND THERE'S OTHERS FOR THE CAMPUSES.
THEY ALL USE A RUBRIC ON A SCALE OF 1-5 TO SHOW OUR COMMUNITY HOW WE'RE DOING.
ALL OF THESE ARE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE, BUT WE WANTED TO LET PARENTS KNOW ABOUT THEIR SCHOOL SPECIFIC RESULTS ON THIS YEAR'S SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT.
WE HAVE BEEN HOSTING ZOOM MEETINGS LED BY OUR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS WITH EVERY CAMPUS IN CROWLEY ISD, AND THEN DR. MCFARLAND ON ONE OF HIS MONDAYS WITH DR. MCFARLAND, WENT OVER THE DISTRICT LEVEL SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT.
IN ALL OF THOSE MEETINGS, WE COUNTED UP MORE THAN 1,050 PEOPLE HEARD ABOUT A SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT.
SOME OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS HAD MULTIPLE KIDS AT A SCHOOL OR OTHER SCHOOLS.
WE KNOW THIS REPRESENTED A MUCH LARGER NUMBER OF STUDENTS, BUT TO HAVE MORE THAN 1,000 PEOPLE LOGGING ON ON A ZOOM, WHETHER ON THEIR WAY HOME OR WHILE THEY'RE MAKING DINNER TO HEAR ABOUT THEIR CHILD SCHOOL AND THE METRICS THAT MATTER TO THEM, MEANT A LOT.
WE WANT TO THANK PRESIDENT DAVIS FOR TAKING TIME TO WELCOME OUR PARENTS AND SHARE THE BOARD'S VISION AND PERSPECTIVE ON OUR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS.
MS. DAVIS WAS ON MANY OF THOSE CALLS AS WELL.
THANK YOU ALL FOR REPRESENTING THE BOARD.
THE PARENTS WERE VERY RESPONSIVE AND ASKING QUESTIONS.
WE ALWAYS ASKED THEM, WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO SEE IN THIS REPORT? WE GOT A COUPLE OF IDEAS, BUT REALLY THEY'VE BEEN REALLY SUPPORTIVE AND EXCITED ABOUT WHAT'S ON THERE.
WE'VE OBVIOUSLY STARTED A GOOD THING.
WE SHARED THESE WITH OTHER DISTRICTS AT A STATE CONFERENCE THIS YEAR.
THESE WERE VERY POPULAR BECAUSE THERE'S TWO YEARS NOW WHERE THE STATE HAS NOT ISSUED ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS, AND WE WANTED TO BE ABLE TO LET OUR COMMUNITY KNOW HOW WE'RE DOING.
MR. DAVIS, YOU WOULD CONSTANTLY REMIND OUR PARENTS.
THIS ISN'T JUST ALL THE GREAT THINGS.
THERE WERE AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT.
DR. MCFARLAND WOULD REMIND THE CROWD THAT JOINED OUR ZOOMS, THAT THE BIGGEST ROOM IS THE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.
THESE HAVE AREAS WHERE WE CAN GROW.
IT'S BEEN A PHENOMENAL TURNOUT. THANK YOU, BOARD FOR SETTING THIS VISION.
THEY'RE ALL POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE.
>> YOU CAN GO THROUGH THERE, NOT ONLY LOOK AT THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS, BUT EVERY VIDEO BEATING IS THERE.
IF PARENTS MISS THOSE, THEY COULD GO ON AND WATCH THEM.
PRINCIPALS ARE ALSO ACTUALLY INCLUDING THOSE IN THEIR NEWSLETTERS AND POSTING THOSE ON THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA.
WE KNOW THAT 1,050 NUMBER IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO GROW AS MORE AND MORE PEOPLE WATCH THEIR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT VIDEO.
ONE OTHER THING WE'VE INCLUDED, I'LL LET MR. HANDY JUST SHOW YOU THIS SO YOU CAN HAVE SOME FAMILIARITY.
YOU'LL SEE FOR BEST RACE, YOU SEE THE ENGLISH VERSION,
[00:50:02]
THE SPANISH VERSION AND THEN YOU CAN WATCH THE VIDEO FROM THAT MEETING.IF THERE'S ANY, YOU'D LIKE TO GO BACK AND WATCH, THEY'RE ALL POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE.
THEN ONE OTHER THING WE TALKED ABOUT IN ALL OF OUR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT ZOOMS, WE KNOW THAT SCHOOL SAFETY, AND SECURITY IS EVERYONE'S TOP PRIORITY.
WE TOOK THAT OPPORTUNITY AS WE HAD PARENTS WITH US TO TALK ABOUT A FEW SAFETY INITIATIVES THAT WE LAUNCHED IN RECENT YEARS.
THE FIRST IS OUR STOP IT APP THAT ALLOWS ANYONE ANY TIME OF THE DAY TO ANONYMOUSLY REPORT ANY INCIDENT, WHETHER THEY SEE ONLINE BULLYING OR THEY HEAR ABOUT A POTENTIAL THREAT.
WHEN YOU HIT SEND, IT'S ANONYMOUS, BUT ALSO IT GOES DIRECTLY TO THAT CAMPUS PRINCIPAL, OUR CROWLEY ISD POLICE DEPARTMENT, DISTRICT LEADERS.
WE WANTED TO REMIND ALL OF OUR PARENTS BECAUSE OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO THIS, BUT SO TO OUR PARENTS.
IT'S AN APP AND ALL THE APP STORES, BUT IT'S ALSO THERE ON OUR WEBSITE.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE APP TO USE IT, AND WE'VE SEEN GREAT SUCCESS WITH THE STOPIT APP.
WE WANTED TO REMIND EVERYONE ABOUT THAT.
THE OTHER THING WE'RE CONTINUING TO REMIND EVERYONE IS THE TRAINING THAT EVERY CROWLEY ISD STAFF MEMBER AND STUDENT GOES THROUGH FOR OUR STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOLS.
THIS IS IN THE EVENT OF AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENS ON A CAMPUS.
THIS IS THE SAME LANGUAGE WE'RE USING AT EVERY FACILITY ACROSS CROWLEY ISD.
IN THE EVENT SOMETHING HAPPENS, EVERYONE IS USING THAT SAME LANGUAGE.
THAT'S WHERE WE GET INSIDE OUR CLASSROOM AREA AND JUST CONTINUE LEARNING LIKE OUR REGULAR SCHOOL DAY BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT MAY BE GOING ON THE HALLWAY.
THERE MAY BE A MEDICAL INCIDENT AND WE NEED TO HAVE THE NURSES OR PARAMEDICS RESPOND.
EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO IN A HOLD, AND THEN WE'LL ALSO LET OUR PARENTS KNOW.
PARENTS, YOUR CAMPUS WENT ONTO A HOLD TODAY. HERE'S WHY.
WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO USE THIS LANGUAGE ACROSS THE DISTRICT JUST SO WE HAD THAT STANDARD RESPONSE, AND IT'S REALLY BEEN VERY BENEFICIAL TO ENSURING OUR SCHOOLS ARE SAFE AND SECURE.
IT'S JUST ONE OF THOSE MANY LAYERS WE HAVE IN PLACE.
OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT THOSE WITH OUR PARENTS AS WELL DURING OUR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS BECAUSE WHAT WE SAID IS NONE OF THIS GREAT WORK IS POSSIBLE WITHOUT SAFE AND SECURE SCHOOLS SAFE AND SECURE SCHOOLS.
THAT IS OUR PRIORITY AND WE TOOK THAT OPPORTUNITY TO REMIND PARENTS ABOUT THAT.
DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS TONIGHT ABOUT OUR SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS OR THE ZOOM MEETINGS THAT WE'VE HELD?
>> IT'S A QUESTION ABOUT THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS.
THAT IS, HAVE WE SHARED THESE WITH BOOSTER CLUBS OR PTAS?
>> YES, MA'AM. WE HAVE AND WE ACTUALLY WHEN WE WERE WORKING WITH OUR PRINCIPALS, WE ASKED THEM TO REALLY MAKE SURE THEIR BOOSTER REPS BOOSTERS AND PTAS WERE THERE ON THAT CALL SO THEY COULD HEAR IT AND THEN GO OUT AND HELP SPREAD THAT WORD.
AND THAT HELPED A LOT OF OUR ENGAGEMENT GO BECAUSE OUR PRINCIPALS WERE INVITING THOSE INDIVIDUALS TO HEAR ABOUT IT. GOOD QUESTION.
>> NEXT QUESTION. ARE THERE ANY REQUIREMENTS OF PARENTS OF FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND ALL THE SPORTS ARE THERE ANY PARENT REQUIREMENTS? JUST PERIOD.
>> YOU MEAN PARTICIPATION, VOLUNTEER HOURS AND THING. YES.
>> WE DON'T HAVE ANY AT THIS LEVEL.
THE COACH MAY INSTITUTE SOME DEPEND ON WHAT THE PROGRAM IT IS.
NO SEVERAL OF THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS REQUIRE PARENTS TO HELP WITH ACTIVITIES THAT WE MAY NOT FUND, BUT WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING AT THIS LEVEL.
THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE CONSIDER, DEFINITELY WE WANT TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO INCENTIVIZE PARENTS.
THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN CONSIDER.
WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING AT THIS LEVEL.
>> I WAS JUST THINKING THAT FOOTBALL PARENT, BASKETBALL PARENTS, BASEBALL, BEING ALL OF THEM AT A MEETING COULD WATCH THEIR SCHOOLS QUALITY REPORT AND GET AN UNDERSTANDING OF IT.
>> THAT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT WE COULD WE ACTUALLY SPEAK TO BOOSTER CLUB PARENTS AND BOOSTER CLUB GROUPS.
THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT WE COULD SIMPLY PUT ON THE AGENDA TO MAKE A STANDARD PRACTICE.
WE DEFINITELY WILL CONSIDER THAT.
>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, TRUSTEES?
>> WHEN I WAS WORKING ON MY DISSERTATION, I SIGNED UP FOR THIS PROGRAM CALLED OTTER AI, AND WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IS AFTER EVERY SINGLE ZOOM, I GET A SUMMARY OF WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING.
IT'S LIKE CMS DISCUSS AND THEY'LL GIVE ME FEEDBACK.
I WAS LIKE, OH, I DON'T KNOW IF I'M STILL PAYING FOR THIS SERVICE. IT'S GOOD.
BUT NOW THAT I HAVE GOTTEN THOSE I WAS LIKE, I NEED TO LOOK AND MAKE SURE.
MAKE SURE I'M NOT SUBSCRIBED ANYMORE, BUT I THINK THAT IS AWESOME.
I THINK INSTEAD OF HAVING PARENTS WATCH MAYBE HOURS LONG VIDEO, MAYBE PROVIDE A BRIEF SYNOPSIS, WHAT OCCURRED DURING THE MEETING BECAUSE I LIKE REVIEWING THOSE.
>> APPARENTLY I'M PAYING FOR THE SAME SUBSCRIPTION BECAUSE I'M GETTING THEM AS WELL.
BUT YEAH, I THINK THE SUMMARY WOULD BE GREAT.
I THOUGHT THAT DR. MCFARLAND WAS SHARING THIS WITH US AT THE COMPLETION OF EACH MEETING, BUT THERE ARE SOME GREAT SUMMARIES BEING SHARED WITH US THROUGH AI OF THOSE MEETINGS.
[00:55:06]
>> I WOULD JUST ACTUALLY SAY KUDOS TO ALL OF THE PRINCIPALS.
THIS BEING THE SECOND YEAR THAT WE DID THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM RAN THEIR MEETINGS EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY.
YOU SAID AN HOUR LONG MEETING.
THEY ACTUALLY HAD IT DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MINUTES, AND THEY WERE PRESENTED, WELL THOUGHT OUT.
I JUST WANT TO COMMEND EVERY CAMPUS PRINCIPAL FOR THE GREAT JOB THAT THEY DID JUST IN PREPARING FOR THESE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS AND DELIVERING THEM IN AN EXCELLENT FASHION.
>> THAT'S A GREAT POINT BECAUSE THESE PRINCIPALS PRESENTED THESE LAST YEAR, AND IT WAS ALL NEW, AND THEY'VE BEEN ABLE TO SHOW THE GROWTH FROM YEAR 1 TO YEAR 2.
THAT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO SEE. I CAN'T WAIT FOR YEAR 3.
I'M GLAD THAT WE'VE POSTED THESE ON THE WEBSITES, BOTH THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORT THEMSELVES IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH, AS WELL AS THE VIDEOS BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT PEOPLE OFTEN CRITICIZE ENTITIES FOR IS A LACK OF TRANSPARENCY, BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
WE TRY TO PUSH AS MUCH INFORMATION OUT AS WE POSSIBLY CAN, AND WE REALLY MAKE IT EASY TO READ, IT'S ACCESSIBLE, I JUST ALSO WANT TO COMMEND OUR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF IN THE DISTRICT THAT MADE THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS HAPPEN.
THAT WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION TO PULL TOGETHER FOR THE DISTRICT, AND THEN FOR EACH AND EVERY CAMPUS TO PUT IT IN A FORMAT THAT WAS EASY TO NAVIGATE, EASY TO READ AND DIGEST.
IT WAS JUST REALLY ACROSS THE BOARD.
IT'S JUST BEEN JUST A REALLY WELL PRESENTED PROGRAM.
KUDOS TO ALL OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO OUR COMMUNICATIONS TEAM, MR. KIRSCHNER.
I KNOW THIS REQUIRED A LOT OF YOU, BUT ALSO BOARD KUDOS TO US.
BECAUSE THIS WAS A VISION THAT WE INSTITUTED ON LAST YEAR IN THE ABSENCE OF THOSE ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS OF SAYING WE STILL WANT TO REMAIN ACCOUNTABLE TO THE CROWLEY ISD STAKEHOLDERS, AND COMMUNITIES, AND SO WE HAD TO BE INNOVATIVE, AND NOW IT PROBABLY HAS BECOME THE GOLD STANDARD OF SCHOOL TRANSPARENCY IN THE STATE.
I'M GLAD YOU ALL HAVE SHARED THIS ON THE STATE LEVEL AND JUST KNOW, TEXAS, AS YOU SEE, SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS COMING OUT, KNOW THAT IT STARTED RIGHT HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. KERSEY BOARD. TRUSTEE ROBINSON.
>> I HAVE ONE MORE COMMENT PERTAINING TO THE SHARING.
I DO APPRECIATE THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS BECAUSE I WORK IN A CAMPUS IN ANOTHER DISTRICT, AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IMPLEMENT AND MODIFY SOME THINGS BASED ON WHAT I SEE ON THE SCHOOL QUALITY REPORTS AT MY OWN CAMPUS.
THEN ALSO TAKING DATA BECAUSE I WAS A DATA ANALYST.
LOOKING AT HOW THAT'S PRESENTED, AND THEN SEEING, HOW CAN I TAILOR THIS TO OUR CAMPUS.
I DO APPRECIATE THAT BECAUSE IT GIVES ME INSIGHT AND THINGS THAT I CAN USE AT MY OWN CAMPUS.
>> THANK YOU, SECRETARY ROBINSON. TRUSTEE DAVIS.
>> TRUSTEE ROBINSON, ARE YOU GIVING CROWLEY CREDIT FOR THAT?
>> I THINK THERE NEED TO BE SOME ROYALTIES PAID OR SOMETHING.
>> I THINK SO. BUT I JUST WANT TO RUBBER STAMP WHAT YOU SAID, PRESIDENT DAVIS, IN TERMS OF THOSE QUALITY REPORTS BECAUSE THE ADMINISTRATORS DID DO AN EXCELLENT JOB, AND KNOWING THE WORK THAT WENT INTO PUTTING THOSE REPORTS TOGETHER, SO JUST THANK YOU.
THANK YOU. VERY INFORMATIVE AND VERY USEFUL.
>> THANK YOU, MR. KIRSCHNER. WE WILL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 3.5, REFLECTIONS FROM TASB TXED CON2024 CONFERENCE.
AT THIS TIME, I WILL YIELD TO MY COLLEAGUES TO GIVE JUST A BRIEF REPORT ON TAKEAWAYS FROM THE 2024 TASA/TASB CONFERENCE, AND I WILL START SECRETARY ROBINSON. THANK YOU.
>> I ATTENDED A SESSION CALLED LESSON PLANNING WITH AI, AND IT WAS PRESENTED FROM REGION 2, AND THEY HAVE THIS AI PLATFORM THAT ALLOWS YOU TO CREATE LESSON PLANS THAT HAS ALL OF THE TAKES ALREADY EMBEDDED IN IT.
IT ALSO HAS A NEWSLETTER PLATFORM FOR YOU TO CREATE EMAILS, DIFFERENT THINGS THAT YOU NEED FOR A SCHOOL.
IT DOES COST A FEE, BUT I THINK IT IS WORTH IT, OR WORTH LOOKING AT.
NO SAYING THAT WE HAVE TO DO IT, BUT I APPRECIATE THEM SHOWING THAT BECAUSE THEY SAID, IT CUTS DOWN ON LESSON PLANNING.
ALL TEACHERS NEED TO DO IS INTERNALIZE THE LESSON VERSUS SPENDING HOURS YOU KNOW ON THE WEEKEND AND AFTER CONTRACT HOURS, LESSON PLANNING.
I APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE EARLIER THIS WEEK,
[01:00:01]
WE HAD A SUB, AND THERE IS NO WORK LEFT.I WAS LIKE, OKAY, LET ME GO ON THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE AND SEE WHERE THE STUDENTS SHOULD BE.
I'M GOING TO PUT THIS IN AI AND PRINT OUT A LESSON, LET ME COPY PASTE.
I NEED SOME OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS.
MULTIPLE CHOICES, GIVE ME THIS, AND SO AI WAS ABLE TO PRODUCE THAT FOR ME.
I WAS ABLE TO RUN COPIES AND PRESENT IT ALL IN A MATTER OF MINUTES.
I THINK IT WOULD BE EXCELLENT FOR SCHOOLS TO USE JUST AT A TIME SAVING PLATFORM.
>> THANK YOU, SECRETARY ROBINSON.
>> THANK YOU. I ATTENDED A SESSION INCREASING SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IN A DISTRESS AND DISTRACTED WORLD, AND IT WAS PRESENTED BY SHER BRADLEY FROM PLANO.
BUT SHE TALKED ABOUT CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM, AND SHE COMPARED CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM TO TRUANCY BECAUSE THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
ABSENTEEISM, PREVENTION STRATEGIES, AND PRACTICES FOR SCHOOLS, AND SHE TALKED ABOUT CREATING A POSITIVE SCHOOL CLIMATE.
AS I WAS LISTENING TO HER, I WAS VERY PLEASED BECAUSE OF COURSE, WE DO ALL OF THESE THINGS, BUT SHE DID HAVE A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SPIN ON SOME OF THEM, AND SHE HAD A TIERED ATTENDANCE, INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS FOR TEACHERS, OR SOCIAL WORKERS, FOR ADMINISTRATORS, FOR SCHOOL NURSES, FOR FAMILIES.
SHE HAD A VERY INTERESTING TWIST AGAIN ON ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY TO PREVENT CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM, AND WHAT SHE SAID IS SHE GOES ONE OF THE MANY THINGS SHE DOES.
IF SHE GOES TO DOCTOR'S OFFICES AND ASKED THEM TO CONSIDER AFTER HOURS AND WEEKEND APPOINTMENTS SO KIDS DON'T HAVE TO MISS SCHOOL.
I THOUGHT, WOW, AND SHE GETS GREAT RESULTS FROM THAT.
THE DOCTORS ARE LIKE, WELL, YOU NEVER ASKED, SO WE DIDN'T DIDN'T DO IT.
THAT'S JUST ONE OF THE MANY THINGS SHE TALKED ABOUT THAT SHE'S DOING TO HELP WITH ABSENTEEISM IN HER DISTRICT.
>> AWESOME. VICE PRESIDENT HALL.
>> FOR ME, I'M ALWAYS ENVIOUS OF MY COLLEAGUES BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS DO A GREAT JOB OF ISOLATING ONE SPECIFIC THING THAT THEY ENJOYED ABOUT TASA/TASB.
I'M NOT ALWAYS AS GOOD AS DOING THAT, BUT I WILL LIFT UP THE THEME OF COLLABORATION AND TEAMWORK.
LAST YEAR, WE WENT AS AN HONOR BOARD, AND OF COURSE, THAT WAS AN EXTREMELY SURREAL AND I DON'T KNOW, PRIDE FIELD EVENT. THAT'S ALWAYS THE THING.
BUT THIS YEAR, AGAIN, WE HAD 100% PARTICIPATION FROM THE BOARD.
IT WAS LOVELY TO HAVE ALL OF US THERE.
ALL OF US ABLE TO DINE TOGETHER, ALL OF US ABLE TO ATTEND SESSIONS TOGETHER.
I HAD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ALL OF THESE MANY YEARS THAT I'VE BEEN HERE, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND OFFICERS TRAINING FOR THE FIRST TIME, AT LEAST I THINK IT WAS THE FIRST TIME.
ALL FOUR OF THE OFFICERS WERE THERE. IT WAS GREAT.
WE WERE RECOGNIZED FOR ALL BEING THERE, AND ALSO WE LEARNED THINGS TOGETHER AND THINGS THAT WE THOUGHT, ALWAYS SAY OUR URBAN LEGENDS, THINGS THAT WE QUOTE AND BELIEVED TO BE POLICY OR SO WE FIND OUT OR MISS AND DISPEL THOSE THINGS.
I WAS GREAT TO LEARN TOGETHER, I'M GOING TO LIFT UP TEAMWORK, COLLABORATION, AND IT'S JUST GREAT TO BE THAT ONE TEAM DREAM.
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT HALL. VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.
>> I WANTED TO ECHO DR. HALL, AND I TOO WAS GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE SIX HOUR PRESENTATION THAT WE WERE AT FOR LEADERSHIP AND TALKING ABOUT ROBERT'S RULES, AND I WAS GOING TO BRING THE LAMINATED.
>> I TOO WAS LIKE, OH, WE DO THAT.
WE DO THAT. WE DO THAT, AND THEN HE WAS LIKE, I DIDN'T KNOW WE HAD TO DO THAT.
I THINK IT WAS NEAT THAT ALL FOUR OF US WERE PRESENT FOR THE WHOLE SIX HOUR PRESENTATION.
BUT IT WAS NEAT SPENDING SOME TIME WITH Y'ALL ALL.
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA. JUSTICE STEVENSON.
>> I HAVE TWO THAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT.
ONE CLASS THAT I ATTENDED WAS THE KINDNESS CRUSADE: JOURNEY TO BULLYING FREE SCHOOLS.
THIS PRESENTATION WAS PUT ON BY STUDENTS TO LEARN AND KNOW THAT THESE STUDENTS WERE ONCE BULLIES AND HOW THEY HAVE OVERCOME BEING A BULLY
[01:05:02]
AND JUST GOING AND SHOWING OTHER STUDENTS HOW THEY CAN STOP BULLYING.THEY REALLY DID A GREAT PRESENTATION TO BE YOUNG MEN.
IT WAS FOUR YOUNG MEN, AND THEY TALKED ABOUT WHEN YOU MOVE TO ONE GRADE TO THE NEXT, HOW THE TEACHER WOULD ALWAYS SAY, "THAT'S A PROBLEM CHILD, BEWARE OF THAT," AND SO HOW THEY OVERCAME THAT WHEN THEY BECAME JUNIORS.
THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW TO GET OTHER STUDENTS INVOLVED, THEY WERE HAVING ISSUES WITH BULLYING.
THE OTHER CLASS THAT I ATTENDED, IT WAS SCHOOL SAFETY PROTOCOLS FROM THE BOARD ROOM TO THE BUS.
THIS PRESENTATION WAS PUT ON BY ONE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER AND ONE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL FROM MELISSA ISD, AND THEY TALKED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE SCHOOLS AND NEW AVENUES OR NEW THINGS THAT THEY'RE DOING NOW, AND SO I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US TO KNOW THE THINGS THAT THEY HAD.
ONE THING THEY BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION WAS THEY HAD BADGES.
IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE THAT CAME ABOUT IN THE SCHOOL, INSTEAD OF HAVING CELL PHONES, THEY HAD THE BADGES WHERE YOU WOULD PUSH THE BACK OF THE BADGE THREE TIMES, AND THEN THAT WOULD ALERT THAT THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO RELY ON PHONES.
WHEN WE ASKED THEM WHY THEY DIDN'T RELY ON PHONES BECAUSE THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT THE CELL TOWERS AND HOW THAT SOMETIMES THEY COULD BE DOWN.
BUT A WEB BASE WAS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR THAT DISTRICT, MELISSA.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL TOO, AND I THOUGHT WE COULD SHARE THAT WITH THE BOARD AND SEE WHAT WE THINK ABOUT MAYBE IMPLEMENTING THAT IN CROWLEY ISD.
>> THANK YOU, JUSTICE STEVENSON. DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD.
>> YES. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT DAVIS.
I ENJOYED BEING THERE WITH MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS AND BEING RECOGNIZED FOR BEING 100% BECAUSE THERE WERE SEVERAL MEMBERS THAT WE RAN INTO AND THEY'RE LIKE, "ARE ALL OF YOUR BOARD MEMBERS HERE?" YES. "YOUR SUPERINTENDENT TOO?" YES. WE'RE ALL HERE.
I THINK FOR ME, ONE OF THE GREAT TAKEAWAYS WAS LEARNING ABOUT A PROGRAM CALLED I LEAD, AND IT'S A FOUNDATIONAL AND TRANSFORMATIONAL PROGRAM THAT I ALSO HOPE WE WILL IMPLEMENT, OR AT LEAST IN SOME FORM IN CROWLEY ISD.
WE ALL ATTENDED A KEYNOTE PRESENTATION, WHICH WAS ONE OF OUR GENERAL SESSIONS THAT WAS LED BY JOHN C. MAXWELL, THE LEADERSHIP GURU, AND PROBABLY MANY OF US HAVE A BOOK OR TWO OR MORE OF HIS LEADERSHIP BOOKS.
ONE OF THE THINGS I CAN APPRECIATE BEING ON THIS PARTICULAR BOARD IS HAVING OUR STUDENTS HAVE EXPERIENCE IN OUR STAFF IN OUR DISTRICT, HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF BOTH EDUCATORS AND CORPORATE INDIVIDUALS, BECAUSE WHERE WE BELIEVE AND KNOW THAT IT'S NOT JUST IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARE TEACHING OR THAT WE'RE INSTILLING THESE HARD SKILL VALUES AND SKILLS TO OUR STUDENTS, BUT THE SOFT SKILLS MATTER AS WELL.
WHEN WE TEACH THEM THE HARD SKILLS AND THEN LEARNING ABOUT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, LEADERSHIP SKILLS IN THE SCHOOLS, WHEN THEY COME TO CORPORATE AMERICA OR WHEREVER THEY GO, MILITARY SERVICE WORK ENVIRONMENT, THEY HAVE SOME LEADERSHIP CREDENTIALS, THEY HAVE SOME LEADERSHIP SKILLS.
LINKEDIN HAS A REPORT THAT SAYS 92% OF COMPANIES THAT WERE SURVEYED, SAY THAT SOFT SKILLS MATTER JUST AS MUCH OR MORE THAN THE HARD SKILLS.
OUR STUDENTS GOING THROUGH LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS FOR MANY YEARS, IT HELPS BUILD A POSITIVE CULTURE.
IT INSTILLS SELF ESTEEM AND ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT GREAT THINGS.
WE SAW SOME EXAMPLES OF THAT FROM OUR STUDENT LEADERS TODAY.
THIS PROGRAM REALLY IS A WONDERFUL PROGRAM.
BECAUSE I FOLLOWED UP FROM THE GENERAL SESSION, I WENT TO A SEPARATE SESSION.
WHEN I WALKED IN AND ONE OF THE REPS FROM JOHN C. MAXWELL SAID, "WE WANT YOU TO SIT AT A TABLE SO WE CAN DO THIS EXERCISE." I WAS LIKE, "NO, I'M GOING TO DO A LITTLE WORK AND I'LL PAY ATTENTION, BUT I WANT TO SIT IN THE BACK WHERE THERE WAS NO TABLE." AFTER ABOUT FIVE MINUTES, I WAS TUNED IN AND MOVED TO A TABLE.
GOT REALLY ENGAGED AT THE TABLE WITH THE DISCUSSION, AND WHAT WE WERE DOING WAS DEMONSTRATING WHAT OUR STUDENTS WOULD ACTUALLY DO IN A SESSION, ANSWERING QUESTIONS, HELPING EACH OTHER, LISTENING TO EACH OTHER.
[01:10:01]
THE EXERCISE THAT I ACTUALLY DID, I BROUGHT EXTRAS, BUT IT WAS A LISTENING EXERCISE AND BUILDING MUTUAL RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER, THE POSITIVE CULTURE AND SO ON, SO FORTH.A LOT OF GREAT INFORMATION, BUT I DO BELIEVE THAT IT'S A SKILL THAT SOMETIMES WE OVERLOOK, PERIOD, FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND I REALLY WOULD HOPE THAT WE ENGAGE IN A LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR OUR STUDENTS, WHETHER IT'S EMBEDDED THROUGHOUT ALL OF THE CLASSES, WHICH I BELIEVE SOME PARTS WE ARE DOING, OR A SEPARATE CLASS THAT WE CAN HAVE FOR THEM TO DO.
BUT IT WAS A WONDERFUL PROGRAM.
I WAS THOROUGHLY EXCITED ABOUT.
>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE WOODSON-MAYFIELD.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WAS PLEASED OR JUST TOOK AWAY AS AN AHA MOMENT, WAS A TRAINING THAT TRUSTEE STEVENSON AND I ACTUALLY BOTH ATTENDED, AND ONE OF THE BREAKOUT MOMENTS IN THAT SESSION WAS THE QUESTION THAT WAS POSED, "DO YOU KNOW THE STRENGTHS OF YOUR BOARD?" FOR ME, ONE OF THE AHA MOMENTS WAS JUST THE DIVERSITY OF STRENGTHS THAT WE HAVE ON THIS BOARD.
THEY REALLY MATTER IN HOW YOU GET THE WORK DONE, AND SO WE HAVE A LOT OF STRENGTH AT THIS DAIS.
I WAS REALLY JUST PROUD AS TRUSTEE STEVENSON AND I JUST WENT BACK AND FORTH DURING THAT BRIEF MOMENT, TALKING ABOUT THE VARIOUS SKILLS AND STRENGTHS THAT EXIST ON THIS BOARD.
THAT IS SOMETHING I THINK WE SHOULD BE REALLY PROUD OF, WHETHER WE HAVE SOME THAT ARE POLICY WHIZZES AND DATA EXPERTS AND HR AND BUSINESS AND ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT REALLY MAKE US COHESIVE AS A BOARD, AND SO THAT WAS A REALLY POSITIVE TAKEAWAY THAT I HAD IN THAT SESSION.
THE OTHER THING WAS, OF COURSE, WE KNOW THAT ADVOCACY IS IMPORTANT, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT AS WE, ON A DAILY BASIS, DEAL WITH THE CHALLENGES THAT ARE SURROUNDING PUBLIC EDUCATION IN TEXAS, ADVOCACY IS IMPORTANT.
VICE PRESIDENT HALL AND I ATTENDED THE DELEGATE ASSEMBLY.
I AS THE DELEGATE, SHE AS THE ALTERNATE, BUT WE BOTH ATTENDED AND PARTICIPATED IN THAT PROCESS JUST AS A PART OF TASB.
JUST KNOW THAT AS WE ARE COMING OUT OF ELECTION SEASON, WE GO INTO THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION THAT THERE WILL BE OPPORTUNITIES FOR US TO ADVOCATE, NOT JUST FOR THE 17 PLUS THOUSAND STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD, BUT ON BEHALF OF THE 5.5 MILLION PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS HERE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS TO ENSURE THAT WE GET CLOSER AND CLOSER TO PROVIDING EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION, NOT JUST IN OUR DISTRICT, BUT THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
THE DELEGATE ASSEMBLY DEFINITELY WAS A MUST AND JUST KNOW THAT AS THE TASB LEGISLATIVE AGENDA COMES OUT, WE CERTAINLY WANT TO GET BEHIND THAT EFFORT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT WE ARE ON AN ISLAND TO OURSELVES, AND AS A PART OF THAT ASSOCIATION, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE FURTHERING THOSE EFFORTS BECAUSE AS WE FURTHER THE EFFORTS OF TASB, WE AS A DISTRICT WILL BENEFIT AS WELL.
>> I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY, PRESIDENT DAVIS, FOR ALL OF US, IF THE SESSIONS THAT WE ATTENDED, JUST RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU FELT LIKE, WE'RE ALREADY DOING THAT, OR WE GOT THAT.
[LAUGHTER] I'LL JUST SAY THAT HAPPENED A LOT EVERY TIME I HEARD SOMETHING.
>> WE ARE DEFINITELY AN INNOVATIVE DISTRICT, AND SO WHILE WE CELEBRATE THE EFFORTS THAT MANY DISTRICTS ARE DOING, WE REALLY NEED TO HIGHLIGHT A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
I'M JUST GOING TO PUT THAT OUT THERE, THAT WE CAN CERTAINLY HAVE OUR SPACE AND TIME TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THE TRANSFORMATIONAL THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING HERE IN OUR DISTRICT. DR. MCFARLAND.
>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, I DEFINITELY ENJOYED THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WITH YOU ALL.
JUST THE FACT THAT ALL SEVEN ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE JUST SPEAKS TO THIS IDEA OF BEING A LIFELONG LEARNER, AND REALLY LEADING.
I JUST WANT TO LIFT UP THE FACT THAT YOU ALL MADE SACRIFICE TO BE THERE AND I APPRECIATE THAT AND IT'S JUST AN HONOR TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO CONNECT IN THAT WAY.
>> BEFORE WE GO ON, TO DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD'S POINT ABOUT US SEEING STUFF AND SAYING, WE'RE DOING THAT.
[01:15:02]
SOME BOARD MEMBERS FROM CROWLEY ISD AND THE SUPERINTENDENT PRESENT AT SOME OF THESE CONFERENCES.BECAUSE WE CERTAINLY HAVE STORIES TO TELL, AND WE CAN BACK IT UP WITH FACTS.

[5.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item(s) ]
CONSIDERATION OF POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS, AGENDA ITEM 5.1, RESOLUTION FOR CROWLEY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NOMINATIONS FOR TARRANT APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS' ELECTION. DR. MCFARLAND.>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.
THIS NEXT ITEM, WE LISTED IT AS A POSSIBLE ACTION.
THIS ITEM IS ACTUALLY JUST THE NOMINATION FOR THE TARRANT APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD.
WE DO HAVE A LIST OF CANDIDATES THAT WE'VE HAD OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH.
HOWEVER, THESE CANDIDATES HAVE ALL BEEN NOMINATED AT THIS POINT.
SO THERE'S NO NECESSARY CAUSE FOR ACTION.
HOWEVER, WE CAN TAKE ACTION IF WE CHOOSE TO.
I'LL READ THESE NAMES JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT ANY OF THE ONES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN NOMINATED.
AS YOU KNOW, THE PROCESS IS THAT THEY'RE NOMINATED.
ONCE THE NOMINEES HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED BY ALL OF THE TAX AND AGENCIES IN THE AREA, THEN THEY'LL BE FILED AND THEN IN DECEMBER, WE'LL COME BACK AND WE'LL ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO APPLY VOTES TO ONE OR TO MULTIPLE CANDIDATES.
REALLY, ACTUALLY, I'LL GO THROUGH FIVE NAMES TONIGHT, AND THESE ALL HAVE BEEN NOMINATED AGAIN.
GLORIA PENA IS A CURRENT TARRANT BOARD MEMBER.
SHE HAS A HISTORY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE SPANNING OVER THREE DECADES.
THAT ALSO INCLUDES SHE WAS A FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE ARLINGTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AS WELL AS THE DIRECTOR OF THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARD.
SHE GRADUATED FROM NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY AND HAS BEEN IN THE AREA FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
PHYLLIS GRISSOM IS ALSO A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF TARRANT COUNTY.
SHE GRADUATED FROM EASTERN HILLS HIGH SCHOOL IN FORT WORTH ISD.
SHE, OF COURSE, HAVE FAMILY TIES HERE BUT HAS SERVED IN NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT ON SEVERAL OF THEIR COMMITTEES OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS AS WELL. FRED CAMPOS.
MR. CAMPOS IS A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF THE FORT WORTH AREA, GROWING UP IN GRAPEVINE AND THEN IN HEB.
HE HAS SERVED IN THAT AREA AND HAS BEEN A SUPPORTER AND A TRUSTEE FOR HEB ISD SINCE 2015.
[01:20:07]
WE HAVE OUR OWN MR. DARYL DAVIS, WHO, OF COURSE, WE ALL KNOW MR. DAVIS, AND HAS BEEN A SERVANT IN THIS AREA FOR QUITE SOME TIME AS WELL.THE FIFTH NAME LISTED HERE IS WENDY BURGESS.
SHE IS A CURRENT TARRANT COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR AND COLLECTOR, AND HER TERM ENDS IN NOVEMBER, AND SHE AGAIN IS INTERESTED IN SERVING IN THIS CAPACITY IF WE CHOOSE.
THOSE ARE FIVE NAMES THAT WE HAVE LISTED.
WE CAN HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THOSE.
AGAIN, EVERYONE'S BEEN NOMINATED.
IF WE LIKE TO TAKE ACTION TO NOMINATE TONIGHT, WE COULD DO THAT AS WELL.
IT'S NOT NECESSARY BECAUSE THE NOMINATIONS HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE.
BUT I WILL YIELD TO YOUR DESIRE.
>> THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND. VICE PRESIDENT HALL.
>> THERE WERE TWO OTHER CANDIDATES THAT I HAD DONE SOME RESEARCH ON AND I CAN'T SPEAK FOR MY FELLOW COLLEAGUES, BUT THEY WERE LEE HENDERSON, I KNOW HAD BEEN INTRODUCED.
RAN FOR THE OPEN SEAT LAST YEAR, AND ALSO WAS INTRODUCED BY COMMISSIONERS COURT, I BELIEVE.
THEN ALSO THERE WAS SAYEDA SYED, I BELIEVE, IS THAT RIGHT? SHE CAME TO SPEAK WITH US ON OUR LAST BOARD MEETING, AND SHE WAS ALSO A CANDIDATE THAT I FELT LIKE I GOT TO KNOW DURING ELECTION SEASON LAST YEAR, WHO I THINK ALSO WOULD BE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ISSUES.
WOULD HAVE A POSITION ON THE ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO US AS A BOARD AND AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT.
I WOULD LIKE TO BRING FORTH THOSE TWO NAMES FOR CONSIDERATION.
>> LEE HENDERSON AND SAYEDA SYED.
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT HALL. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, TRUSTEES? I'M SORRY. GO AHEAD.
>> JUST A QUESTION. THOSE WERE THE NAMES NOMINATED.
WHAT IS THE ASK OF US? I JUST WANT TO BE CLEAR WHAT THE ASK OF THE BOARD IS.
>> FOR ME TONIGHT, WHAT I WAS SIMPLY DOING WAS SHARING WITH YOU THAT THOSE FIVE THAT I READ HAVE ALREADY BEEN NOMINATED.
WE CAN NOMINATE THEM OR WE DON'T HAVE TO NOMINATE THEM.
>> WHEN YOU SAY THEY'VE BEEN NOMINATED, NOMINATED BY WHOM?
>> OTHER DISTRICTS. BUT WE CAN STILL NOMINATE THOSE [OVERLAPPING].
>> NO, I UNDERSTAND THAT. MAYBE IT'S FOR ANOTHER CONVERSATION.
THEY WERE NOMINATED BY DISTRICTS, BUT THAT'S NOT THE EXTENT OF THEM.
THEY'RE THE OTHER GOVERNMENT ENTITIES THAT WILL BE BRINGING NOMINATIONS FOR IT, CORRECT? THE LIST MAY CONTINUE TO GROW.
>> ABSOLUTELY, THIS IS MUCH LONGER THAN [INAUDIBLE]
>> OUR ASK IS IF WE HAVE ADDITIONAL NAMES TO NOMINATE. GOT YOU.
>> WE CAN BOTH ADD ADDITIONAL NAMES OR WE CAN NOMINATE BASED ON THE FIVE THAT WERE PRESENTED TONIGHT.
WE'VE GOT A FEW DIFFERENT OPTIONS, OF COURSE, BECAUSE THERE ARE FIVE SEATS THAT ARE UP FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE TAB BOARD.
WE CAN MAKE NOMINATIONS FOR THOSE FIVE SEATS.
IT'S TOTALLY UP TO US AS A BOARD.
THIS IS A CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM, BUT NO ACTION IS NECESSARILY REQUIRED, IF THAT MAKES SENSE.
>> I'M READING THROUGH THE TIMELINE.
WHEN ALL GOVERNING BODIES NOMINATE, THEN IS THERE A BALLOT THAT COULD?
>> THEN THEY COME BACK TO US WITH THE SLATE AND WE CAN CHOOSE TO GIVE ALL OUR VOTES TO ONE PERSON OR WE CAN SPLIT IT?
>> WE CAN ADD TWO PEOPLE TONIGHT TO MAKE IT SEVEN, AND THEN AFTER ALL OF THE WATER DISTRICTS AND CITY MUNICIPALITIES COME TOGETHER, THEN THEY'LL COME BACK TO US, IS IT NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER? WHEN DO WE?
>> NOVEMBER. THEN WE JUST NARROW IT DOWN FROM THERE?
>> WE ALLOCATE OUR VOTES AT THAT TIME. TRUSTEE DAVIS.
>> SHE ASKED BASICALLY THE SAME QUESTION I WAS GOING TO ASK.
>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?
[01:25:03]
AGAIN, THIS IS A CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.AT THIS TIME, IF THERE IS A DESIRE TO TAKE ACTION, I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.
>> I'M GOING TO TRY TO UTILIZE OUR ROBERT'S RULES.
>> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION THAT CROWLEY ISD NOMINEES [INAUDIBLE], [INAUDIBLE], [INAUDIBLE], DARYL DAVIS, [INAUDIBLE], LEE HENDERSON. NO?
>> IS IT OKAY FOR ME TO EXPLAIN OR YOU WANT TO DO IT?
>> WELL, TRUSTEE ROBINSON HAS THE FLOOR.
>> SHE'S IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A MOTION.
>> THE MOTION ON THE FLOOR IS A RECOMMENDATION FOR SEVEN NOMINATIONS TO THE TASB BOARD. IS THERE A SECOND?
>> CAN I MAKE AN AMENDMENT TO HER? CAN I AMEND HER MOTION? I CAN.
>> I LEARNED THIS LAST WEEK IN SCHOOL.
I WOULD LIKE TO AMEND TRUSTEE ROBINSON'S MOTION TO NOMINATE A SAYEDA SYED AND LEE HENDERSON, AND NOMINATE THEM TO THE THE TABS BOARD.
>> THE AMENDMENT HAS BEEN MADE.
WE CAN VOTE ON THE AMENDMENT TO TAKE THE SEVEN NAMES TO ONLY TWO NAMES, AND IF THAT PASSES, THEN WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE AN OFFICIAL MOTION TO NOMINATE THOSE TWO INDIVIDUALS.
WE HAVE TO NOW VOTE ON THE AMENDMENT FIRST.
THERE'S A MOTION ON THE FLOOR.
>> I'M SORRY. COULD YOU CLARIFY THAT? I'M SORRY, I MISSED THAT.
WE'RE ONLY VOTING ON THE TWO IN THE AMENDMENT?
>> WE'RE VOTING ON THE AMENDMENT ITSELF.
THE ORIGINAL AMENDMENT WAS ON OUR NOMINATION BEING SEVEN MEMBERS OR SEVEN NAMES.
THAT'S THE MOTION THAT TRUSTEE ROBINSON MADE.
VICE PRESIDENT HALL WANTED TO AMEND THE MOTION TO WHERE WE ONLY NOMINATED THOSE TWO INDIVIDUALS.
AT THIS POINT, THERE IS AN AMENDED MOTION ON THE FLOOR, SO WE HAVE TO VOTE ON WHETHER OR NOT WE WANT TO APPROVE THE AMENDMENT.
THERE'S A MOTION NOW FOR ONLY TWO NAMES TO BE NOMINATED, INSTEAD OF SEVEN.
IF WE WANT TO NOMINATE ONLY TWO INDIVIDUALS, THEN WE NEED TO SECOND THAT NOMINATION AND VOTE ON IT.
>> WHERE'S THE PLACE FOR QUESTION?
>> [LAUGHTER] NOW. YES, MA'AM.
>> MY QUESTION IS, BASED ON WHAT DR. MCFARLAND SAID, THAT THERE WOULD PROBABLY BE MORE NAMES ADDED TO THE LIST, DO WE WANT TO VOTE NOW OR SEE OTHER NAMES THAT MAY BE ADDED?
>> THIS IS JUST FOR NOMINATIONS AND THE NOMINATIONS HAVE A DUE DATE.
IF WE'RE GOING TO TAKE ACTION, WE HAVE TO TAKE ACTION TONIGHT. TRUSTEE WOODSON-MAYFIELD.
IF WE'RE NOMINATING TWO, I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE NOT REMOVING BECAUSE THEY'RE ALREADY THERE.
>> WE CAN ONLY NOMINATE FIVE ALL TOTAL.
THE FIVE THAT WE VETTED WERE THE ONES THAT WE LISTED.
THOSE HAVE ALREADY BEEN NOMINATED, SO THEY'VE BEEN NOMINATED BY OTHER ENTITIES.
>> I'M JUST SAYING FOR AN EXAMPLE, PRESIDENT DAVIS IS ALREADY NOMINATED, WE HAVE UP TO FIVE, SO WE CAN DO TWO,
[01:30:01]
AND BUT WE CAN GO UP TO FIVE.>> BUT THOSE FIVE THAT YOU'VE NAMED HAVE ALREADY BEEN NOMINATED AND THEY WERE ALREADY BEING REPRESENTED, CORRECT? THEY'VE BEEN NOMINATED BY OTHER ENTITIES.
WE DON'T HAVE TO USE OUR NOMINATIONS FOR THOSE FIVE BECAUSE THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN NOMINATED.
>> THAT'S WHAT I WAS JUST [OVERLAPPING].
>> YEAH. I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY.
THE FIVE I'VE MENTIONED HAVE ALREADY BEEN, THEY'RE ALREADY THERE.
>> WE HAVE FIVE SLOTS THAT WE COULD USE.
>> YES. WHAT I'M WHAT I'M SAYING IS, IN ADDITION TO JUST THOSE TWO, WE HAVE AN ADDITIONAL THREE IF WE DECIDED WE WANTED TO DO THAT.
>> WHEN IS THAT DEADLINE? TONIGHT? THE 14TH.
>> WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A FIVE-MINUTE RECESS.
THERE IS A MOTION ON THE FLOOR AS WELL AS AN AMENDMENT TO THAT MOTION.
>> AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION, I WOULD LIKE TO RESCIND MY AMENDMENTS.
>> THANK YOU, SECRETARY ROBINSON.
YOU RESCINDING THAT MOTION ALSO VOIDS OUT THE AMENDMENT.
AGAIN, THIS IS A CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM. IS THERE A MOTION?
>> YES. I RECOMMEND THAT THE CROWLEY ISD NOMINATE LEE HENDERSON AND SAYEDA SYED TO APPEAR ON THE TARRANT APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION BALLOT.
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT HALL.
IT HAS BEEN MOVED. IS THERE A SECOND?
>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.
IT HAS BEEN PROPERLY MOVED AND SECONDED.
ANY FURTHER UNREADINESS OR DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.
MOVE TO VOTE BY SHOW OF HANDS. ALL IN FAVOR? THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.
WE'LL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 5.2, RESOLUTION FOR CROWLEY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NOMINATIONS FOR CENTRAL APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION. DR. MCFARLAND.
>> AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, THIS ITEM IS ACTUALLY PERTAINING TO THE NOMINATIONS FOR THE CENTRAL APPRAISAL DISTRICT.
THIS ONE IS FOR JOHNSTON COUNTY.
THIS ONE IS LISTED HERE. IT'S A SMALL PORTION OF OUR DISTRICT THAT IS WITHIN JOHNSTON COUNTY.
IF THERE'S A NAME THAT YOU ALL HAVE, WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NAMES AT THIS POINT THAT WE CAN ENDORSE AND SO WE WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE IT OPEN.
THE BOARD YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EITHER NOMINATE A PERSON OR YOU CAN CHOOSE NOT TO NOMINATE AND TAKE A VOTE LATER IN THE PROCESS.
TRUSTEES, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? HEARING NONE, THIS IS ALSO A CONSIDERATION OF POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM.
IS THERE A MOTION TO BE MADE? HEARING NONE, WE WILL MOVE FORWARD.
WE WILL NOW MOVE TO OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEMS, AGENDA ITEM 6.1,
[6.0 Future Action Item(s)]

MS. [INAUDIBLE], ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?
>> BOARD PRESIDENT DAVIS, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DR. MCFARLAND, THE DELAY IN THE CLASS SIZE WAIVER SUBMISSION IS BY TEA, AND SO BECAUSE THE ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS ARE IN LIMBO, THEY BASICALLY CLOSED OFF THAT WINDOW FOR US TO BE ABLE TO SUBMIT IT IN SEPTEMBER LIKE WE TYPICALLY DO, AND SO NOW WE'LL BE SUBMITTING IT IN NOVEMBER.
THE NUMBER OF WAIVERS THAT ARE IN THEIR ELEMENTARY CLASS SIZES PRE-K THROUGH 4TH GRADE ARE THE ONES THAT WE'LL BE CONSIDERING, AND YOU'LL GET THE ACTUAL NUMBERS IN THE BOARD UPDATE, AND YOU'LL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO VOTE ON,
[01:35:03]
IF YOU'RE GOING TO ALLOW US TO SUBMIT THOSE CLASS SIZE WAIVERS TO TEA AT THE NEXT REGULAR BOARD MEETING IN OCTOBER.>> THANK YOU, MS. [INAUDIBLE]. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, TRUSTEES? NO. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
