MOVE NOW TO OUR RECOGNITION ITEMS, AGENDA ITEM 3.1, NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATIONS AND QUIZ BOWL PREVIEW. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS WERE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.

MS. MARIA WILL BE PRESENTING THIS NEXT ITEM.

AGAIN, THANK YOU BOARD FOR THIS TIME.

MS. MARIA ANGUIANO.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, DR. MCFARLAND, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

I USUALLY HAVE THIS LITTLE STEP THAT THEY PULL OUT FOR ME.

[LAUGHTER] I'M SURE YOU CAN HEAR ME.

WITH GREAT EXCITEMENT, I AM HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION FOR 2024 HAS JUST

[00:05:03]

BEEN GREAT WHEN IT STARTED SEPTEMBER THE 15TH AND WENT ON TO OCTOBER 15TH WITH THE THEME OF, PIONEERS OF CHANGE: SHAPING THE FUTURE TOGETHER.

IT BEGAN WITH CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS THAT STUDENTS HAD ACCESS THROUGHOUT THIS TIME AS WELL AS SOME ART PROJECTS AND CAMPUSES CELEBRATED IN MANY, MANY DIFFERENT WAYS.

WITH THE CURRICULUM CONNECTION, THERE WERE HIGHLIGHTS OF HISTORICAL FIGURES, COLLECTIONS OF BOOKS CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, AS WELL AS MANY CONNECTIONS TO MATH, SCIENCE, LITERATURE, SPORTS, AND FINE ARTS.

I'M HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH CROWLEY ISD WITH OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT PUTTING UP WONDERFUL DISPLAYS OF STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THAT UNIVERSITY.

IN CROWLEY ISD, WE WILL HAVE STUDENTS THAT WILL BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN EIGHT CATEGORIES STARTING AS EARLY AS KINDERGARTEN AND GOING ALL THE WAY THROUGH 12TH GRADE.

THESE ENTRIES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING AND VOTING ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26TH AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

SOMETHING ELSE THAT WE STARTED SEVERAL YEARS AGO IS THAT SCHOOLS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN A DOOR DECORATING CONTEST.

IT CAN BE A CLASSROOM TEACHER, IT CAN BE A GROUP OF STUDENTS, IT CAN BE OUR COUNSELOR.

ANYBODY THAT WISHES TO PARTICIPATE AND DECORATE THEIR DOOR, WE HAVE A CONTEST AS WELL.

WE AWARD BOTH IN ELEMENTARY LEVEL AND A SECONDARY LEVEL AND THE WINNER OF EACH CAMPUS MOVES ON TO THE DISTRICT LEVEL.

THEN FINALLY BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, IS THE QUIZ BOWL ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26 AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL FROM 9:00 TO 2:00 PM.

THE DOORS WILL OPEN ABOUT 7:50 FOR THE REGISTRATION OF THE TEAMS AND CHECKING EVERYBODY IN AND THERE WILL DEFINITELY BE A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION, MR. TORRES AND [INAUDIBLE].

THE TEAM HAVE JUST WORKED GREAT TOGETHER IN PUTTING A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION EVERYTHING CONNECTED TO THE THEME OF A PIONEER.

YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A WAGON UP ON THE STAGE AND YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A WAGON WHEEL AND SO ON.

AGAIN, IT'S ALL CONNECTED TO THAT SHAPING THE FUTURE TOGETHER.

I INVITE YOU AND THE COMMUNITY TO COME OUT AND JUST CHEER ON THESE STUDENTS AND CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE WITH US.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME?

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, MS. ANGUIANO.

I'LL YIELD TO MY COLLEAGUES.

TRUSTEES, ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY IT WAS AMAZING TO BE AT TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY AND TO SEE ALL OF THE AMAZING ART THAT WAS ON DISPLAY.

SEVERAL OF US ATTENDED AN EVENT THERE EARLIER THIS WEEK AND TRUSTEE DAVIS AND I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY JUST TO GO THROUGH THE MULTIPLE SECTIONS THAT WE HAD AND THE ART WAS JUST PHENOMENAL.

I'M REALLY PROUD JUST OF THE WORK THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE DONE THUS FAR.

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> I APPRECIATE IT. THAT WAS REALLY IN COLLABORATION WITH OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT AND MS. LOTTEN AND THE ART TEACHER SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> GREAT JOB.

>> ANYTHING ELSE, TRUSTEES? THANK YOU SO MUCH.

WE WILL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 3.2, PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION MONTH.

DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO ALWAYS RECOGNIZE OUR PRINCIPALS, BUT THIS MONTH IS SPECIAL.

WE WANT TO TAKE SOME TIME TODAY TO REALLY LIFT UP OUR PRINCIPALS UP.

THEY ARE CRITICAL TO OUR SUCCESS.

THEY ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR.

OUTSIDE OF A CLASSROOM TEACHER, THE PRINCIPAL IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN WHETHER THE SCHOOL PERFORMS. WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT RECOGNIZING PRINCIPALS.

MS. DIGGLES IS HERE TO PRESENT THIS NEXT ITEM. MS. DIGGLES?

>> THANK YOU. PRESIDENT DAVIS, HONORED TRUSTEES, SUPERINTENDENT MCFARLAND.

PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION MONTH IS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER EACH YEAR.

IT'S A TIME TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE HARD WORK OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENT SUCCESS AND SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.

THIS YEAR, WE ASKED OUR PRINCIPALS A SINGULAR QUESTION, WHY? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO BECOME A SCHOOL PRINCIPAL? WHAT WE HEARD WERE THEMES THAT MIRRORED THE VERY HEART OF CROWLEY ISD.

PRINCIPAL SHAUNDRA GARRISON TALKED ABOUT HAVING PASSION FOR EDUCATION.

PRINCIPAL SALEH SAID SCHOOL WAS A SAFE PLACE FOR HER AND SHE WANTED TO CREATE THAT SAME ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS.

PRINCIPAL CATO TALKED ABOUT ELEVATING ALL STAKEHOLDERS AND ENSURING THAT EVERY VOICE WAS HEARD.

[00:10:05]

PRINCIPAL ROBINS SAID SHE LOVED BEING A TEACHER AND SHE WANTED TO BE IN A POSITION TO EMPOWER AND ASSIST OTHER TEACHERS.

DR. WARFIELD TALKED ABOUT HER SPIRITUAL GIFTS AND WALKING IN PURPOSE.

FINALLY, DR. LAYNE REFLECTED ON THE FACT THAT BECAUSE OF PASSIONATE EDUCATORS THAT POURED INTO HIM, HE HAD AN OBLIGATION TO POUR INTO THE NEXT GENERATION.

ALL OF OUR PRINCIPAL SPOTLIGHTS ARE POSTED ON OUR CROWLEY ISD FACEBOOK PAGE.

I KNOW HANDS-DOWN THEY ARE THE BUSIEST PROFESSIONALS IN THE DISTRICT, SO I'M REALLY GLAD THIS MEETING IS BEING RECORDED SO THEY CAN HEAR ME SAY AND ALL OF US SAY, THANK YOU AND WE APPRECIATE YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU DO. [APPLAUSE]

>> AT THIS TIME, I WILL YIELD TO MY COLLEAGUES IF YOU ALL HAVE ANY COMMENTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE. TRUSTEE DAVIS?

>> NO. I WOULD LIKE TO JUST SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR PRINCIPALS FOR THE WORK YOU DO WITH OUR STUDENTS.

WE REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE IT AND WE UNDERSTAND WHAT THE DAY TO DAY IS LIKE FOR YOU.

SO YOUR PERSEVERANCE IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED AND THE COMMENTS THAT WERE MADE HERE ARE APPRECIATED.

MR. DAVIS, IF I COULD DO A SEGUE BACK TO THE PREVIOUS DISCUSSION ABOUT FINE ARTS?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> OKAY. I CANNOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF FINE ARTS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

I'M SO GLAD WITH THAT DISPLAY THAT WE DID, WE'RE GIVING OUR STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE CREATIVE AND SHOW WHAT THEY CAN DO.

LIKE YOU SAID, IT WAS SOME VERY, VERY IMPRESSIVE ARTWORK THERE.

THE BENEFITS OF FINE ARTS CANNOT BE UNDERESTIMATED.

I JUST NEEDED TO SAY THAT.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS. ANY OTHER COMMENTS? TRUSTEE STEVENS?

>> JUST TO OUR PRINCIPLES.

I WAS GLAD TO SEE THE SPOTLIGHT ON FACEBOOK OF ALL THE PRINCIPLES THAT WERE SPOTLIGHTED AND I THINK THEY ALL DESERVE IT.

BUT I REALLY WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL THE PRINCIPLES BECAUSE THEY GO FAR BEYOND BEING A PRINCIPAL.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU PUBLICLY. THANK YOU.

>> DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD?

>> YES. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT DAVIS.

I JUST WANTED TO TAKE A MOMENT TO SAY THANK YOU ALSO TO OUR PRINCIPALS.

I THINK WHAT I REALLY LOVE ABOUT THE PRINCIPALS THAT I'VE INTERACTED WITH WHICH REALLY MOST OF THEM; I DON'T THINK THERE'S ONE I HAVEN'T MET.

BUT NOT ONLY ARE THEY SUCH PROFESSIONALS IN THE CLASSROOM AND THEY'RE METICULOUS ABOUT THE LESSONS AND HOW THEY DELIVER THE CURRICULUM.

BUT ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT I APPRECIATE WITH THEM IS THEIR VULNERABILITY, THEIR AUTHENTICITY, GENUINE PASSION FOR THE WORK THAT THEY DO FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND THEY LIKE TO HAVE FUN.

THEY'RE WELL-ROUNDED PRINCIPALS.

THEY TAKE THEIR WORK VERY SERIOUSLY, BUT THEY ALSO ENJOY THEIR TEACHERS AND THE STUDENTS.

SO I JUST APPRECIATE THEM FOR JUST BEING ALL AROUND AWESOME PRINCIPLES.

I'M THANKFUL FOR THIS MONTH SO THANK YOU PRINCIPALS.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE WOODSON-MAYFIELD.

SECRETARY DR. ROBINSON.

>> I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE PRINCIPALS.

IT'S TRULY A LABEL OF LOVE SERVING EACH AND EVERY DAY NOT ONLY STUDENTS, BUT THEIR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES.

I KNOW THEY ARE FACED WITH A LOT AND THEY HANDLE IT WITH POISE AND GRACE DAILY.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.

EVEN THE UNSEEN AND THE BEHIND THE SCENES, THANK YOU BECAUSE YOU REALLY DRIVE THE FORCE IN THE BUILDINGS.

>> THANK YOU, SECRETARY ROBINSON.

>> VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.

>> GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO ECHO EVERYONE'S COMMENTS.

BEING IN THE DISTRICT FOR AS LONG AS I HAVE AND SEEING A NUMBER OF GREAT PRINCIPLES, I TOO WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO, KNOWING THAT OUR KIDS, OUR STUDENTS ARE WHAT THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS AND WE CAN SEE THAT EVERY DAY.

FOR THAT, WE APPRECIATE YOU.

[00:15:02]

>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.

>> PRINCIPLES, IF YOU'RE WATCHING, I THINK WE ARE UNANIMOUS IN OUR POSITION THAT WE GREATLY APPRECIATE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF OUR CAMPUS PRINCIPLES.

PLEASE LET'S TAKE JUST A MOMENT AND GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE. [APPLAUSE]

>> ALSO WANT TO HEAR, TO OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES.

DO YOU ALL HAVE ANY COMMENTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

>> MY PRINCIPAL IS DR. WARFIELD, AND SHE'S PROBABLY THE FAVORITE PRINCIPAL THAT I'VE EVER HAD.

SHE DOES A LOT OF EVENTS AND GOES TO ALL THE EVENTS.

SHE MAKES SURE THAT SHE'S THERE, SHE MAKES SURE THAT WE CARED FOR.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE HER IN THE HALLWAY, SHE ALWAYS GIVES ME A HUG AND GIVES OTHER PEOPLE HUGS, AND SHE JUST MAKE SURE THAT WE CARED FOR. I REALLY APPRECIATE HER.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE JS. TRUSTEE NICHOLAS.

>> OUR PRINCIPAL IS DR. MARGOLIN.

I CAN DEFINITELY SEE A SHIFT IN OUR SCHOOL EVER SINCE HE'S BECOME OUR PRINCIPAL.

I CAN TELL HE DEFINITELY CARES FOR US AND HE CARES ABOUT OUR SAFETY AND HE ENSURES IT SO I DEFINITELY APPRECIATE HIM FOR THAT.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, TRUSTEE NICHOLAS.

WE WILL NOW MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 4.1,

[4.0 Student School Board Trustee Program]

INTRODUCTIONS AND UPDATES FROM STUDENT TRUSTEES. DR. MCFARLANE.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN THIS STUDENT VOICE INITIATIVE, WHERE WE HAVE STUDENT TRUSTEES FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

WE TONIGHT WOULD LIKE TO PAUSE FOR A SECOND AND JUST INTRODUCE OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES.

WE HAVE MISS DIGGLES HERE TO PRESENT THIS ITEM. MISS DIG.

>> GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT DAVIS, AGAIN, STEAM TRUSTEES, DR. MCFARLANE.

TONIGHT, I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF INTRODUCING OUR EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT TRUSTEES WHOSE VOICE HAS BEEN INVALUABLE IN SHAPING OUR DECISIONS AND OUR DISCUSSIONS HERE IN THIS VERY ROOM.

OVER THE COURSE OF THEIR SERVICE, WE'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WATCHING THEM GROW INTO PASSIONATE ADVOCATES FOR FELLOW STUDENTS AND FOR THEIR CAMPUSES.

THEIR INSIGHT AND LEADERSHIP HAVE ENRICHED OUR BOARD, ENSURING THAT STUDENT PERSPECTIVE IS ALWAYS AT THE HEART OF OUR WORK.

THEY'RE HERE WITH US AND I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE THEM AS I CALL YOUR NAME, IF YOU WOULD COME UP AND STAND WITH ME HERE AT THE DAIS SO THAT EVERYONE CAN GET TO KNOW YOU.

FIRST OF ALL, FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE MISS NAVA HAMILTON ROBERT. SHE'S A 12TH GRADER.

[APPLAUSE] MR. VINCENT JAMES, AN 11TH GRADER FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

ZOE JOHNSON, AN 11TH GRADER FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

MISS ROSE JONES, 12TH GRADER FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

NEXT, WE HAVE MR. DYLAN DILL, 12TH GRADER FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

JAMES ETHAN HUNT, 12TH GRADER FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

MISS ASHLEY MACHADO, 12TH GRADER FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, MISS MICHAELA NICHOLAS, 12TH GRADER FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

WE HAVE THREE OTHER TRUSTEES WHO HAD PREVIOUS ENGAGEMENT, EXCUSE ME, FOUR, CADAVE CARROLL IS AN 11TH GRADER AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

ALSO KENNEDY MCCLENDON, A TENTH GRADER AT NORTH CROWLEY, HEIDI RAMIREZ TAPIA, WILL REPRESENT CROWLEY COLLEGIATE, AND THEN CHANCELLOR SLATER WILL ALSO REPRESENT CROWLEY COLLEGIATE.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF THESE YOUNG PEOPLE.

AT THIS TIME, WE'D LIKE TO GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHAKE YOU ALL'S HANDS AND INTRODUCE THEMSELVES.

[00:20:22]

WE WOULD ALSO BE REMISS IF WE DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE PARENTS OF THESE INCREDIBLE YOUNG PEOPLE.

IF ONE OF THESE YOUNG PEOPLE BELONG TO YOU, WOULD YOU PLEASE STAND SO THAT WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU AS WELL.

[APPLAUSE] THANK YOU PARENTS FOR BRINGING US THESE INCREDIBLE CHILDREN.

[APPLAUSE] AT THIS TIME, WE WILL YIELD THE FLOOR TO MISS ROSE JONES TO SHARE HER CELEBRATIONS HERE WITH US.

>> MY NAME IS ROSE AS YOU ALL KNOW.

I'M ALSO A SENIOR THIS YEAR.

MY CELEBRATIONS ARE OUR MIGHTY EAGLE BAND.

THEY WON FIRST DIVISION IN THE RECENT UIL CONTEST, AND OF COURSE, OUR FOOTBALL TEAM IS UNDEFEATED AS WELL.

MY BIG CELEBRATION IS OUR TOLLS PARTNERSHIP.

I TAKE ENGLISH AT CHARLESTON AND IT'S BEEN AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE TO SAY THE LEAST.

OUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WAS ALSO MY FIRST DAY AT CHARLESTON, AND THE STAFF WAS JUST ABSOLUTELY SO WELCOMING, SO AMAZING AND THEY STILL ARE.

EVERY SINGLE DAY THAT WE WALK THROUGH THOSE DOORS, THEY TREAT US LIKE THEIR OWN KIDS, AND IT'S MY FAVORITE PART OF MY WEEK.

>> CHARLESTON STATE UNIVERSITY SAYS IT WILL CUT THE RIBBON ON THEIR NEW CAMPUS IN CROWLEY TODAY.

THE $66 MILLION FACILITY IS OFFERING 24 DIFFERENT DEGREE THIS YEAR WITH A STRONG FOCUS ON EDUCATION AND HEALTH HEALTH SCIENCES AS NBC 5 EDUCATION REPORTER [INAUDIBLE] TELLS US MANY HIGH SCHOOLERS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE NEW COLLEGE CAMPUS.

>> [INAUDIBLE] FOR TWO MONTHS AFTER THAT.

>> FOR 28 WEEKS PREMATURE ROSE JONES HAS HEARD HER STORY.

>> 48 HOURS AFTER I WAS BORN, MY BODY STARTED TURNING DOWN DOCTORS TOLD MY PARENTS THERE'S NOTHING MORE WE CAN WE DO.

>> ONE DOCTOR DIDN'T GIVE UP AND ROSE PULLED THROUGH.

NOW, SHE'S THRIVING NORMAL TEENAGER EXCELLING AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

AS LONG AS SHE CAM REMEMBER SHE WANTED TO PEDIATRIC MEDICINE TO HELP KIDS LIKE THAT ONE DOCTOR THAT SAVED HER LIFE.

>> I TOOK TWO HIGH HIGH CLASS SO I COULD GET AHEAD AS MUCH AS I COULD.

THEN IN MY FRESHMAN YEAR, I DID MY FIRST A CLASS THEN SOPHOMORE YEAR WAS THE YEAR [INAUDIBLE].

>> DUAL ENROLLMENT HAS BEEN AROUND A WHILE IN TEXAS.

HIGH SCHOOLERS LEAVING CAMPUS, HEADING TO A COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND WORKING TO GET AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE.

IT'S A HUGE HELP FOR MANY KIDS.

BUT IF YOU'RE LIKE ROSE AND YOU WANT TO GO TO ONE OF THOSE BIG NAME SCHOOLS.

>> TCU, TULANE UNIVERSITY, NEW ORLEANS, CORNELL, STANFORD.

>> MANY OF THEM DON'T TAKE CREDITS TRANSFERRED FROM COMMUNITY COLLEGE SO ALL THAT EXTRA WORK DOESN'T HELP HE MUCH UNTIL NOW.

CHARLESTON STATE UNIVERSITY OPENED A NEW CAMPUS IN [INAUDIBLE] TWO BUILDINGS UP AND RUNNING WITH PLANS FOR MORE.

RIGHT NOW SCHOOL BUS THEY'RE FAMILIAR IN THE PARKING LOT.

AT CROWLEY ISD STUDENTS FOR A DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM SINCE IN CHARLESTON IS A FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY.

THE CREDITS TRANSFERRED MOST SCHOOLS, GUESS WHO IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT.

>> WE DID GET IF IT LOOKS LIKE, LIKE OH, THEY'RE HIGH SCHOOLERS THEY'RE NOT COLLEGE STUDENTS.

[00:25:03]

BUT THEY ALSO LOOKED AT US, THEY'RE LIKE, WOW YOU'RE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.

>> IT'S BEEN SUCH A GIFT FOR US.

>> RACHEL [INAUDIBLE] IS THE DEAN OF CHARLESTON [INAUDIBLE].

SHE SAYS THEY HAVE MORE THAN 260 HIGH SCHOOLERS HERE IN CLASS LEARNING JUST AS COLLEGE STUDENTS.

>> THEY CANE THEMSELVES ON COLLEGE CAMPUS.

THEY CAN SEE THEMSELVES LEARNING AND THRIVING IN THESE SPACES, AND THAT FOR THEM IN AN EXPOSURE STANDPOINT THAT THEY CAN SEE THEMSELVES HERE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL PARTICULARLY.

>> DESPITE ALL THE BIG NAME IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS ON ROSES LIST [INAUDIBLE] LETTERS ROLLING IN.

CHARLESTON IS RIGHT UP THERE ON THAT LIST.

SHE'S ALREADY HERE AND LIKES THE IDEA OF [INAUDIBLE] THE SAME PLACE WHERE DOCTORS THOUGHT TO SAVE HER LIFE.

[INAUDIBLE] NBC 5.

[APPLAUSE]

>> TO MOVE ON OUR CAMPUS EVENTS ONE IS TONIGHT ACTUALLY, I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT UNTIL TODAY.

BUT WE HAVE OUR HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION NIGHT, WHICH WAS AT 5:30.

THEN NEXT WEDNESDAY, WE HAVE OUR FOOTBALL BOOSTER FALL FESTIVAL.

THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE FOOD TRUCKS, GAMES, PRIZES. IT'S GOING TO BE A WHOLE PARTY.

I ACTUALLY DIDN'T HAVE ANY MAIN CONSIDERATIONS BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THINGS ARE ACTUALLY GOING REALLY WELL ON MY CAMPUS.

BUT ONE I DID WANT TO BRING UP IS THE CROWDS DURING LUNCHES.

I'M TRYING TO SEE HOW TO WORD IT. IT'S NOT LIKE EVERY DAY, BUT MOST DAYS, IT'S PRETTY CROWDED.

WE HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF EXTRA TABLES NOW BECAUSE IT WAS SO CROWDED AT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND ALL THE EXTRA TABLES MAKES IT FEEL A LITTLE MORE CRAMPED IN THERE, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S A BAD WEATHER DAY OR IT'S RAINY OR IT'S COLD.

WE HAVE SEATING OUTSIDE, BUT OF COURSE, NO ONE'S GOING TO WANT TO SIT OUTSIDE WHEN THE WEATHER IS BAD.

WITH THAT ON TOP OF EVERYTHING, THE CAFETERIAS ARE ONLY SPACE TO EAT LUNCH AND YOU HAVE 300 KIDS AT LUNCH AND IT CAN BE A LOT.

MOST TIMES I ACTUALLY DON'T GO TO LUNCH BECAUSE IT CAN BE REALLY OVERWHELMING OVERPACKED IN THERE AND IT TAKES MORE THAN HALF THE LUNCH TO JUST GET THROUGH THE LINE.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTY JONES.

CERTAINLY GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING THERE AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, BUT I CERTAINLY WANT TO ALSO GIVE YOU KUDOS FOR THE AMAZING STORY AND FOR HOW YOU HAVE REPRESENTED AND HOW YOU ARE REPRESENTATION OF ALL THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN CROWLEY ISD.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE NICHOLAS.

>> HELLO, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

I'M MIKAELA, AND I'M A SENIOR AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

MY FIRST CELEBRATION WAS THE SENIOR EXTRAVAGANZA THAT WE HAD YESTERDAY, WHILE THE SENIORS HAD WHILE THE UNDERCLASSMEN WERE TAKING THEIR PSATS.

BASICALLY, WE HOSTED AN EVENT WHERE WE HAD THE ARMY, THE NAVY, AND THEN WE HAD TEXAS WESLEYAN COME, AND WE HAD 135 SENIORS ACCEPTED AND WE GOT OVER 1.4 MILLION DOLLAR IN SCHOLARSHIPS.

THAT WAS MY FIRST CELEBRATION.

THE EPC CLUB IS HOLDING A MARCH TO THE POLLS TOMORROW, IT'S 2:15 TO 3:00.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THE CHEERLEADERS, THE DANCE TEAM AND THE MARCHING BAND JUST MARCH TO THE POLLS AND TRY TO GET PEOPLE VOTING AND LET EVERYONE KNOW.

ALSO, HOMECOMING WEEK IS NEXT WEEK.

WE'RE HAVING A PARADE OCTOBER 30TH AND HOMECOMING IS ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2, AND THEN OUR HOMECOMING GAME IS ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1.

MY FIRST CONSIDERATION WAS FOR THE JANITORS.

OUR JANITORS ARE SO AMAZING, AND I THINK THAT WE SHOULD HOLD MORE CAMPUS WIDE EVENTS TO JUST GET ALSO SOME VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERYONE AND ALSO RELIEVE SOME OF THAT STRESS AND GIVE THEM SOME EXTRA SUPPORT BECAUSE I SEE HOW HARD AND HOW MUCH THEY'RE DEDICATING AND I'M NOT GOING TO LIE WE'RE A LITTLE MESSY THERE.

I SEE SOME STRUGGLES, I WANT TO HELP AND WE'RE JUST MESSY.

I THINK THAT IF WE UPHOLD SOME INITIATIVES FOR PEOPLE WHO HELP, THEN THAT CAN PICK UP SOME OF THE CLEANINGS AT OUR SCHOOL.

>> AWESOME. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE NICHOLAS, FOR THE INFORMATION THAT YOU'VE SHARED AND FOR THE AMAZING JOB THAT YOU'RE DOING, BEING A VOICE FOR YOUR FELLOW CLASSMATES THERE AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

I'LL YIELD TO MY COLLEAGUES FOR ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS

[00:30:01]

THAT YOU ALL HAVE FOR OUR STUDENT TRUSTEE. TRUSTEE STEVENSON.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION.

I LIKE THE IDEA OF HELPING THE JANITORS.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS, THINGS THAT WE COULD DO OR YOUR SCHOOL CAN DO?

>> YES. OUR JKL CLUB, THEY HAVE SOME EVENTS.

I THINK THEY ONLY HAVE THEM MAYBE LIKE A COUPLE OF TIMES A YEAR.

BUT WE STAY AFTER SCHOOL AND WE JUST HELP THE JANITORS TAKE OUT TRASH AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

BUT THAT'S AS FAR AS WE'VE GONE, BECAUSE I KNOW WE HAVE THINGS WHERE HELP OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL AND PICK UP LIKE LITTER AND EVERYTHING.

BUT I DON'T THINK WE HAVE AS MANY EVENTS WHERE WE'RE ACTUALLY HELPING INSIDE OF THE SCHOOL AND HELP CLEAN INSIDE THE SCHOOL AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

I THINK IF WE MAKE JUST THAT JKL THING A SCHOOL WIDE THING, THEN THAT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION.

YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT 100 PLUS STUDENTS ACCEPTED TO WHAT WESLEYAN?

>> TEXAS WESLEYAN.

>> OKAY. CONGRATULATIONS.

>> YES, MA'AM. THANK YOU.

>> THE SCHOLARSHIPS WENT WITH THAT?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> OKAY. THAT'S GREAT.

BACK TO TRUSTEE STEVENSON'S POINT OF IDEAS TO HELP THE CUSTODIANS PART OF THE MORNING ANNOUNCEMENT.

LET ME BACK UP WHAT IS IT THAT YOU'RE THINKING THE CUSTODIANS NEED HELP WITH?

>> I THINK SOMETIMES LIKE I SAID, TAKING OUT THE TRASH AND THINGS LIKE THAT OR JUST VACUUMING.

I KNOW SOMETIMES I'VE HEARD TEACHERS SAY, OH, WE DIDN'T GET THIS, WE DIDN'T GET THIS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

I THINK IF WE JUST GIVE STUDENTS SOMETHING TO BACK UP ON AND GIVE THEM A LITTLE PUSH TO HELP WITH THIS AND COME TO THE EVENTS.

BECAUSE I THINK SOMETIMES WHEN YOU HAVE THOSE EVENTS WHERE IT'S LIKE, GUYS, COME VOLUNTEER, IT'S JUST A SMALL GROUP AND IT ONLY GETS OUT TO A COUPLE OF PEOPLE.

I THINK IF WE PUSHED IT MORE TO WHERE IT GOT TO MORE PEOPLE, THEN WE COULD HELP MORE CLEAN WITH THE G JANITORS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

>> Y'ALL AREN'T JUST THROWING PAPER AND TRASH ON THE FLOOR.

[LAUGHTER]

>> A PART OF THE MORNING ANNOUNCEMENT TO REMIND EVERYBODY TO NOT DO THAT. I KNOW.

>> I KNOW THEY ARE TEENAGERS.

[LAUGHTER]

>> GREAT IDEA, THOUGH.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA?

>> MISS ROSE, AS I SEE YOU GIVING YOUR CELEBRATIONS AND YOUR FEEDBACK ABOUT THE CAFETERIA, I SEE DR. MCFARLANE WRITING DOWN AND SERIOUSLY TAKING OBVIOUSLY EVERYTHING THAT WE ALL SAY, ESPECIALLY OUR TWO NEWEST TRUSTEES INTO CONSIDERATION.

I WANTED TO SAY THAT WE ALL CAME TOGETHER AND WE GOT A BOND AND WE WERE GOING TO ADDRESS YOUR CAFETERIA ISSUE AS SOON AS WE CAN, AND WE'RE GOING TO GET YOU A NEW HIGH SCHOOL.

JOKING, OBVIOUSLY, BUT I KNOW THAT DR. MCFARLANE WILL BE ALL OVER THAT. THANK YOU.

>> WELL, THANK YOU, STUDENT TRUSTEES FOR THE REPORTS.

PLEASE KNOW, AND I HOPE YOU ALL ALREADY KNOW THIS, BUT THIS IS NOT JUST A FORMALITY, THIS REALLY IS IMPORTANT TO US, AND SO WE WILL HAVE SOME FOLLOW UP TO THE CONCERNS AND CONSIDERATIONS THAT YOU ALL HAVE RAISED.

I'LL JUST SHARE WITH THE REST OF OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES, HOW IMPORTANT IT IS, WHAT IT IS THAT WE'RE DOING HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT THE NORM IN EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

WE PRIDE OURSELVES HERE IN CISD ABOUT BEING INNOVATIVE AND HAVING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS.

JUST THIS MECHANISM WITH THE STUDENT TRUSTEE PROGRAM GIVES YOU ALL AN AVENUE FOR YOUR VOICES TO BE HEARD ON BEHALF OF ALL OF THE STUDENTS AT YOUR SCHOOL.

I BELIEVE LAST YEAR OR MAYBE EVEN YEAR BEFORE, AND I THINK TRUSTEE STEVENSON, MYSELF, AND MAYBE VICE PRESIDENT HALL, WHO WERE AT A NATIONAL CONFERENCE, AND WE ALL SAT IN A WORKSHOP, AND IT WAS ABOUT STUDENT TRUSTEES.

EVERYTHING THAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT, WE LITERALLY SAT THERE LIKE, YEAH, WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS.

THAT'S BECAUSE WE LIKE TO BE ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING, BUT UNDERSTAND IT REALLY DOESN'T HAPPEN IN EVERY DISTRICT.

I HOPE YOU ALL RECEIVE THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT GOES WITH THIS PROGRAM, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE THE CONDUIT BY WHICH CHANGE HAPPENS ON YOUR CAMPUS.

IT IS, YES, A MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY, BUT THERE ARE TREMENDOUS REWARDS BECAUSE YOU CAN HELP CHANGE THINGS FOR THE MORE THAN 2000 STUDENTS THAT ARE AT EACH ONE OF YOUR CAMPUSES.

[00:35:02]

I WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW AS WE GET THIS PROGRAM KICKED OFF FOR THE YEAR THAT WHILE YES, IT IS A GREAT HONOR TO SIT IN THOSE SEATS, THERE IS A RESPONSIBILITY THAT YOU HAVE, AND IT IS TO AMPLIFY THE VOICES OF THOSE IN WHICH YOU SERVE WITH EVERY SINGLE DAY.

THANK YOU ALL FOR WHAT IT IS THAT YOU'RE DOING, AND WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND EXPECTING GREAT THINGS FROM THIS PROGRAM. TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> ONE MORE THING. I HOPE THIS EXPERIENCE THAT YOU'RE HAVING, AND I'M SPEAKING TO ALL OF THE STUDENT TRUSTEES WILL CATAPULT YOU INTO SOME ADVOCACY.

BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE DOING NOW.

YOU'RE ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF THE STUDENTS ON YOUR CAMPUS AND BRINGING ATTENTION TO CONCERNS.

I REALLY HOPE THIS WILL GIVE YOU THE DESIRE TO CONSIDER SOME FORM OF ADVOCACY AS YOU LEAVE US AND GO OUT INTO THE WORLD.

>> THANK YOU. TRUSTEE STEVENSON.

>> JUST ONE MORE COMMENT.

WE JUST HAD A TRAINING THIS PAST SEPTEMBER, AND I WAS ON A CLASS WHERE THEY TALKED ABOUT RECYCLING.

ARE THEY ARE YOU GUYS RECYCLING ANYTHING ON YOUR CAMPUS LIKE HANDS, PLASTIC, ANYTHING?

>> I KNOW EVERY TEACHER HAS A RECYCLING BIN AND A TRASH BIN, BUT I FEEL LIKE IT ALL JUST GOES.

TRASH GOES IN THERE.

ANYTHING GOES IN THERE. YES, MA'AM.

>> WELL, I'LL GIVE YOU SOME INFORMATION REGARDING THE TRAINING THAT I WANT TO DO WHEN THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW YOU CAN GET CASH MONEY BACK FOR YOUR SCHOOL OR FOR YOUR CLUB OR A RECYCLING BIN.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> DR. MCFARLANE.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, AND BOARD MEMBERS, I ALSO WANT TO REPORT, I DON'T SEE A CCA STUDENT HERE TODAY, BUT THE CCA STUDENTS APPROACH MR. MOFFIT AND MYSELF PROBABLY ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, AND THE SENIORS AT CCA HAD NOT IN THE PAST BEEN ALLOWED TO PAINT THEIR PARKING SPOTS.

WE HAD THEM TO PUT TOGETHER A PROPOSAL AND COME UP WITH A PLAN.

WE HAVE OFFICIALLY GRANTED THEM.

I GUESS THEY'RE BEING NOTIFIED NOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO GRANT THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO PAINT THEIR PARKING SPOTS, AS ALL THE OTHER SENIORS ARE ABLE TO DO PROVIDED THEY TURN THE POLICY.

THANK YOU STUDENTS FOR ADVOCATING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER. WE APPRECIATE IT.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT, DR. MCFARLANE.

YOU SEE ADVOCACY AT WORK.

LET'S GIVE OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES ANOTHER HAND.

[APPLAUSE] WE'RE GOING TO MOVE NOW TO OUR REPORT ITEMS,

[5.0 Report Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 5.1, CHISHOLM TRAIL EDUCATION FOUNDATION UPDATES, DR. MCFARLANE.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO ALWAYS RECOGNIZE OUR CHISHOLM TRAIL EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

MISS BARKSDALE, OF COURSE, AS WE KNOW, HAS BEEN AWESOME PARTNER AND JUST A SERVANT TO CROWLEY ISD.

WE EXCITED FOR HER PRESENTATION TODAY. MISS BARKSDALE.

>> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING TO YOU ALL, AND THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, DR. MCFARLANE.

THE CHISHOLM TRAIL EDUCATION FOUNDATION REMAINS HARD AT WORK.

WE STRIVE TO MEET OUR MISSION, WHICH I'LL JUST REMIND ALL OF YOU IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXCELLENCE AND EDUCATION TO PROMOTE INNOVATION IN TEACHING, AND TO PARTNER WITH THE COMMUNITY TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION OF ALL STUDENTS IN CROWLEY ISD.

WE'VE HAD A WONDERFUL YEAR.

BEFORE I TELL YOU MORE DETAILS ABOUT IT, I WANT TO THANK ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS AND ALL OF OUR MANY DONORS.

WE HAVE DONORS THAT WILL GIVE US $5, AND THEN WE HAVE DONORS THAT GIVE US 5,000.

THEY'RE ALL VERY IMPORTANT.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM.

I ALSO WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO VLK ARCHITECTS AND TO LAUREN BROWN AND HER TEAM FOR THEIR TIRELESS WORK EVERY YEAR IN FACILITATING OUR GOLF TOURNAMENT, AT WHICH WE RAGE THE PRIMARY PART OF OUR FUNDS THAT WE SHARE WITH YOU ALL.

WE DO HAVE SOME OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS TONIGHT THAT ARE HERE, AND I'D LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THEM AND TO ALL OF THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS THAT DO WORK HARD FOR THE FOUNDATION.

GARY GRASSIA IS ON OUR BOARD, LEON FISHER AND LAUREN BROWN ARE OUT IN THE AUDIENCE.

THEY BOTH SERVE ON OUR BOARD.

IF THERE'S ANYONE ELSE HERE THAT I MISSED, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF MY BOARD MEMBERS, ESPECIALLY AT THIS TIME OF YEAR TO KIM SPRINGSTED.

WHO IS THE HEAD OF OUR GRANT COMMITTEE AND HOLLY ANDERSON,

[00:40:01]

WHO IS THE VICE CHAIR OF OUR GRANT COMMITTEE JUST FOR ALL OF THEIR VERY HARD WORK, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR AS WE HAVE REFOCUSED OUR GRANT PROGRAM.

THAT BRINGS ME TO THE GRANT PROGRAM.

WE HAVE REFOCUSED OUR PROGRAM SO THAT THIS YEAR, WE FOCUSED ON INNOVATIVE PROJECTS THAT TOUCH THE STEM WORLD.

TO DATE THIS YEAR, WE'VE AWARDED $43,450 IN GRANTS.

BRIEFLY, I'LL TELL YOU ABOUT THE NINE MAJOR GRANTS.

WE ARE AWARDING LARGER GRANTS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON HAVING DIFFERENT MEMBERS OF OUR FOUNDATION, NOT JUST BOARD MEMBERS, BUT OTHERS WHO HELP US BEING MORE INVOLVED WITH THE PROGRAMS FOR WHICH WE'RE PROVIDING FUNDS.

FIRST OF ALL, WE AWARDED A $11,250 GRANT OAKMONT ELEMENTARY/ THE STEM PROGRAM.

THIS IS WHAT WE HOPE IS A SEED PROGRAM THAT'S STARTING A NINE-WEEK PROGRAM FOR VIRTUAL REALITY CURRICULUM IN WHICH THE STUDENTS EXPLORE THE VASTNESS OF SPACE THROUGH A VIRTUAL REALITY EDUCATION.

THEY LEARN ABOUT ASTRONAUTS AND ENGINEERS AND SCIENTISTS WITH A HANDS ON INTERACTIVE TYPE PROGRAM.

SECOND, WE AWARDED A $12,000 GRANT TO THE CISD STEM PROGRAM TO WORK ON A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT WITH THE CTE STUDENTS.

WE GOT A REPORT THEY'RE IN THE FIRST STEPS OF RECONFIGURING AND OUTFITTING THE CISD STEM BUS.

ON THAT BUS, THEY WILL PUT A VARIETY OF INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES, GAMES, PROJECTS THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ALL OF THE CISD STUDENTS AS THE BUS GOES FROM PLACE TO PLACE.

WE'VE ALSO AWARDED A $3,700 GRANT TO SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR SPHERO BOLT, THE ROBOT BALLS THAT THE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING ABOUT AND ALSO VEX ROBOTICS.

WE'VE AWARDED $3,450 TO PARKWAY ELEMENTARY.

THEY ARE INSTITUTING A GAME ROOM, AND IT'S A STEM DRIVEN INCENTIVE THAT'S ACTUALLY, I THINK, EXTREMELY FASCINATING.

THEY'RE WORKING TO INCREASE ATTENDANCE IN STUDENT ENGAGEMENT BY PROVIDING THIS GAME ROOM AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERACTIVE STEM GAMES AND ACTIVITIES.

WE AWARDED A $2,500 GRANT TO A HYDROPONIC GARDEN PROJECT THROUGH WHICH THEY ARE GOING TO BE INTEGRATED GARDENS INTO FOUR CISD ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS FOR THE STUDENTS TO HAVE A HANDS ON LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

IT'LL TEACH STEM CONCEPTS, PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, AND WE'RE HOPING TO ENHANCE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT WITH THOSE PROJECTS.

WE ALSO HAVE AWARDED $2,500 TO CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL FOR A TARGETED LIBRARY THAT'S THE BRAIN CHILD AND CREATION OF ONE OF THEIR TEACHERS, THE LIBRARIES FOR RELUCTANT READERS, AND THEY'RE GOING TO START TO CHOOSE BOOKS THAT WILL NECESSARILY EXCITE THEM AND THEN WE'LL INVITE OTHER READERS TO SHARE WITH THEIR BOOKS.

WE HAVE ASK TAYLOR FERGUSON, WHO IS THE APPLICANT AND THE INDIVIDUAL GRANT RECIPIENT ON THIS TO WORK WITH ONE OF OUR FORMER BOARD MEMBERS THROUGH THE CROWLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY ON SOME OF THE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT I THINK SHE CAN SHARE WITH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

WE'RE HOPING THAT THAT COLLABORATION WILL WORK WELL.

WE ALSO AWARDED $2,500 TO THE DISCOVERY PLAYGROUND TO DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY.

THIS IS A PORTABLE PLAYGROUND.

THERE'S PLAY-BASED LEARNING STRATEGIES THAT ARE DESIGNED TO SUPPORT SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT, EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND ALSO HOPEFULLY ENCOURAGE STUDENT CREATIVITY.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS, WE'VE AWARDED $3,500 THIS YEAR.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS, IT IS AN ANNUAL EVENT IN CROWLEY ISD.

THIS YEAR, WE ARE PROVIDING FUNDS SO THAT THEY CAN ADD EIGHTH GRADE TO THE COMPETITIONS.

THIS IS A NATIONAL PROJECT.

THESE COMPETITIONS HAPPEN NATIONWIDE AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME EVERY YEAR.

IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO READ NEW BOOKS, EXPLORE DIFFERENT GENRES THAT THEY MIGHT NOT EXPLORE TO ACTUALLY SHOW THAT THEY HAVE READ THE BOOK THROUGH COMPETITIONS.

IT'S A LOT OF FUN FOR THE KIDS, THE TEACHERS.

IT DOES GET REALLY EVERY ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUS IN THE DISTRICT INVOLVED.

[NOISE] WE ARE ALSO CURRENTLY IN TALKS WITH THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT AT THE CTE TO HELP THEM WITH SOME MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR THEIR VEX ROBOTIC COMPETITIONS.

[00:45:08]

IT'S SOMETHING THAT THOSE KIDS CAN CARRY ON INTO COLLEGE THROUGH THE ROBOTIC COMPETITIONS AT VARIOUS DIFFERENT UNIVERSITIES.

WE THINK IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO FUND.

WE'RE WORKING WITH THE TEACHERS TO GET BUDGETS AND WHAT THEY NEED AND THAT KIND OF THING.

WE ARE PROUD TO JUST LET YOU KNOW THAT OVER, I THINK THE PAST DECADE, WE HAVE AWARDED OVER $200,000 IN GRANTS TO DIFFERENT PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS AT CROWLEY ISD.

WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO PARTNER WITH YOU ALL.

ONE THING THAT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO DO IS TO INVITE YOU AS BOARD MEMBERS, IF YOU HAVE DIFFERENT IDEAS ABOUT HOW WE CAN PARTNER, PROJECTS THAT ARE OUT THERE, THINGS WE MIGHT WORK ON WITH YOU, REACH OUT, LET ME KNOW.

I'D BE HAPPY TO GET TOGETHER AND MEET WITH YOU AND TALK ABOUT YOUR IDEAS AND PROJECTS, WAYS THAT WE CAN WORK TOGETHER, THE FOUNDATION AND THE DISTRICT TO REACH MUTUAL GOALS TO HELP ALL THE STUDENTS.

I WILL ASK THAT YOU ALL ACCEPT ON BEHALF OF THE RECIPIENTS OF OUR GRANTS, THE $43,000 THAT WE HAVE GRANTED THIS YEAR.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] I'M HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, MISS BARKSDALE, TO YOU AND TO THE ENTIRE FOUNDATION.

I'LL HERE TO MY COLLEAGUES. TRUSTEE STEVENSON?

>> I HAVE ONE. YOU MENTIONED A GRANT FOR, AND I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE SCHOOL REGARDING THE CLASS ROOM STEM.

>> THE GAME ROOM?

>> GAME ROOM.

>> THERE'S TWO PARKWAY ELEMENTARY.

THERE'S A GAME ROOM THAT'S DESIGNED AS AN INCENTIVE FOR BEHAVIOR IN STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND ATTENDANCE.

THEN THERE'S A DISCOVERY PLAYGROUND AT DEER CREEK ELEMENTARY.

>> WHAT WAS THE GRANT FOR PARKWAY ELEMENTARY GAME ROOM?

>> IT'S $3,450.

>> IT'S PRIMARILY FOR THEM TO BUY THE DIFFERENT INTERACTIVE SCIENCE GAMES AND DIFFERENT MATH AND STEM GAMES THAT THEY'LL PUT IN THE GAME ROOM. ABSOLUTELY.

>> TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> I'M GOING TO GO OUT ON A LIMB HERE, AND HEARING YOU SAY DONATIONS ARE FROM $5-$5,000 CHALLENGE MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS TO DONATE TO THE FOUNDATION.

>> WE WOULD WELCOME ANY DONATIONS THAT ANYONE WOULD LIKE TOO, ALWAYS. THANK YOU.

>> DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD.

>> I WAS JUST GOING TO TAG ONTO THAT WITH EMPLOYER-MATCHING CONTRIBUTIONS.

IF ANYBODY HAS A PROGRAM THROUGH THEIR EMPLOYER THAT MATCHES YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS, THAT WOULD ALSO TAKEN. [OVERLAPPING]

>> THAT'S AN EXCELLENT POINT. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE KIDS OR SPOUSES THAT HAVE ACTUALLY CONTACTED US OVER THE PAST TWO UNITED WAY GIVING SEASONS TO GET OUR INFORMATION SO THAT THEY CAN DIRECT THEIR UNITED WAY DONATION THAT THEY DO THROUGH THEIR WORKPLACE TO OUR FOUNDATION.

THAT IS ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY THAT INFORMATION APPEARS THAT YOU CAN DO THAT ON OUR WEBSITE.

I'M NOT SURE HOW ELSE TO REALLY BROADCAST THAT, BUT THAT'S OUT THERE. IT'S A POSSIBILITY.

>> ONE OTHER QUESTION. PRESIDENT DAVIS, I LOVE THE PRESENTATION, I ALWAYS LIKE HEARING ABOUT THE GRANTS.

YOU DID MENTION, I KNOW ON ONE OF THEM BUT MAYBE FOR THE OVERALL PROGRAM, THAT YOU GET PROGRESS REPORTS OR YOU LEARN ABOUT THE STATUS OF WHAT'S GOING ON.

I THINK THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TOO TO JUST CHECK IN WITH HOW THE GRANTS ARE BEING USED IN THE PROGRESS.

>> I'M DELIGHTED TO DO THAT.

AS PART OF THE AGREEMENT THAT WE HAVE WITH OUR GRANT RECIPIENTS, THEY DO HAVE TO PROVIDE US WITH MONTHLY REPORTS.

WE DO HAVE A PARTNER ASSIGNED TO EACH GRANT RECIPIENT THAT MEETS WITH THEM AND TALKS WITH THEM ABOUT THEIR PROGRESS, AND THEN THROUGH THAT, WE GET BOTH VIDEO AND PICTURES.

I ACTUALLY HAD THE THOUGHT SITTING AND WATCHING SOME OF YOUR DIGITAL THAT IT WOULD BE NICE TO PUT TOGETHER ONE OF THOSE, AND JUST SHOW SOME OF THE PROGRESS ON THE GRANTS THROUGH A DIGITAL.

WE CAN ALSO USE THAT ON OUR WEBSITE AND ALSO ON THE DISTRICT'S WEBSITE.

I THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. YES.

>> WE CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

[00:50:02]

>> GOOD. THANK YOU. AWESOME.

>> VICE PRESIDENT GRASSIA.

>> GOOD EVENING, MS. BARKSDALE.

IT'S A PLEASURE SITTING ON THE BOARD WITH YOU.

I ACCEPT MS. DAVIS' OFFER.

I'VE ALREADY PLEDGED THIS YEAR, SO I ENCOURAGE THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS AS WELL TO DO THAT.

>> I HAVEN'T THIS YEAR, BUT I HAVE IN THE PAST.

>> THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DONATION WAR.

WHO'S GOING TO GIVE THE MOST? [LAUGHTER]

>> I LIKE THIS. YOU ALL JUST LET ME KNOW.

JUST SEND ME TEXT MESSAGES.

I'LL SEND YOU THE TREASURER'S INFO.

SHE'S EVEN GOT A SQUARE NOW.

WE'VE GOT A SQUARE YOU CAN DONATE TO.

>> THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I'D LOVE TO DO IT MONTHLY.

IF THERE'S A WAY TO JUST TAKE IT FROM MY PAYCHECK, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

LET ME KNOW IF THAT CAN HAPPEN.

>> I CAN SEND YOU THE INFORMATION.

>> THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO.

>> ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU.

>> IT IS CERTAINLY IMPERATIVE THAT WE HAVE PARTNERS IN EDUCATION, AND YOU ALL HAVE BEEN FAITHFUL TO CROWLEY ISD.

ON BEHALF OF THE 17,000 PLUS STUDENTS OF CROWLEY ISD, THANK YOU TO THE FOUNDATION FOR ALL THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING TO HELP US MAKE DREAMS REALIZED HERE IN CROWLEY ISD. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

[7.0 Consent Agenda]

>> WE'RE GOING TO MOVE NOW TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA, ITEM 7.1, THE APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA.

TRUSTEES, YOU HAVE RECEIVED ALL OF THE REPORTS AND WHATNOT THAT ARE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? ARE THERE ANY THINGS THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED TO DISCUSS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA BEFORE WE APPROVE?

>> I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION.

>> TRUSTEE STEVENSON?

>> I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION REGARDING ELEMENTARY 18.

IS THAT WHAT WE'RE SELECTING, THE COMPANY?

>> YES. THAT IS THE CMAR AT RISK FOR ELEMENTARY 18.

THAT'S NUMBER 7.6.

THAT'S THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK.

>> IS THAT THE NAME OF THE COMPANY? I'M SORRY. I'M CONFUSED ON THAT ONE.

>> NO. I'LL ASK MR. REEVES TO COME UP, BUT IN THE PACKET, I BELIEVE THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK IS LISTED.

THE ONE THAT WE'RE RECOMMENDING IS LISTED IN THE PACKET, SO THAT IS THE NAME OF THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT COMPANY. MR. REEVES?

>> YES, SIR. THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND, PRESIDENT DAVIS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

YES, IF YOU'LL LOOK IN THE ATTACHMENT WITH THE AGENDA ITEM, WHEN WE USED THE CMAR PROCESS, THAT'S THE ONE THAT WE'VE USED THROUGHOUT THESE PROJECTS, EXCEPT FOR THE FENCING AND THE ROOFING, WE USE CSP.

BUT THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK IS THAT METHOD THAT WE USE.

IT'S A TWO-STEP PROCESS WHERE THEY SUBMIT QUALIFICATIONS, AND THEN THEY SUBMIT THEIR FEE PROPOSAL.

WE USE THAT SAME PROCESS HERE.

THERE WERE FOUR SUBMISSIONS FOR THIS PROJECT, BUT THE COMMITTEE IS RECOMMENDING STEELE & FREEMAN POST L GROUP JOINT VENTURE AS THE CMAR FOR THIS PROJECT.

>> MY QUESTION, I GUESS, TOO IS THAT, I GUESS I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PUT THIS, YOU HAD FOUR?

>> YES.

>> WE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE, DO WE GET THE FOUR NAMES OR DO WE GET THE REPORT ON HOW YOU DETERMINE THOSE?

>> YES, MA'AM. THAT'S PART OF THE TWO-STEP PROCESS THAT THEY'LL ALL SUBMIT THROUGH THE RFQ.

THE COMMITTEE WILL REVIEW THE QUALIFICATIONS, AND THEN WE GO THROUGH THE INTERVIEW AND QUESTION STEP AND RECEIVE THEIR PROPOSALS.

>> THE COMMITTEE REPORT IS IN THE BOARD.

>> THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING.

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> THANK YOU, MR. REEVES. TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> MR. REEVES, THIS IS THE PROCEDURE AND PROCESS THAT WE DO EVERY TIME, AM I CORRECT?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES? TRUSTEE ROBINSON.

>> A COMMENT ABOUT 7.3 MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE EXCEPTION WAIVERS.

THERE ARE 74, I BELIEVE, CLASSROOMS WHO ARE REQUESTING WAIVERS.

I KNOW THAT WE HAVE A 22 TO 1 RATIO, AND SO A LOT OF TIMES I'LL HEAR COMMENTS LIKE, WHY ARE THEY BUILDING MORE ELEMENTARIES?

[00:55:01]

WHY DO THEY NEED MORE ELEMENTARIES? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL? BUT THIS SHOWS WHY WE NEED MORE ELEMENTARIES BECAUSE TEACHERS' CLASS SIZES ARE LARGER THAN THAT 22 TO 1 RATIO.

EITHER STUDENTS HAVE TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL OR TEACHERS JUST HAVE CLASS SIZES THAT EXCEED THOSE NUMBERS.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO SPEAK TO THAT, BUT I WAS JUST THINKING THAT THAT'S WORTH NOTING FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

SO WHEN THEY'RE ASKING, WHY ARE YOU BUILDING AN ELEMENTARY 18? WHY IS THERE ELEMENTARY 19 COMING FORWARD? WELL, THIS IS WHY AND I SEE, ESPECIALLY THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE, THAT COULD BE A CLASSROOM BASE.

[LAUGHTER]

>> DR. MCFARLAND?

>> MR. PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, TO DR. ROBINSON'S POINT, BUT EVERY ONE OF THE WAIVERS, THERE ARE ACTUALLY DECISIONS THAT WE HAVE TO MAKE.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE WAIVER, IF THE CLASS IS OVER 22, THEN WE HAVE TO REQUEST A WAIVER.

YOU MAY HAVE A CLASS OF 23, YOU MAY HAVE A CLASS OF 24.

NOW, IF IT GOES FURTHER ABOVE THAT, THEN WE HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION ON WHETHER WE WOULD BUS A STUDENT FROM ONE CAMPUS TO ANOTHER CAMPUS OR WHETHER WE WOULD TRANSFER A TEACHER FROM ONE CAMPUS TO ANOTHER.

ALTHOUGH THAT SEEMS LIKE MAYBE A SIMPLE SCENARIO, THE OTHER PIECE OF THAT IS THAT A LOT OF THE STUDENTS ALSO HAVE SIBLING.

IF YOU BUS ONE STUDENT, YOU ALSO HAVE TO FIND A SPOT FOR THE OTHER STUDENT, OR YOU COULD HAVE PARENTS WITH STUDENTS AT DIFFERENT CAMPUSES.

THERE'S A LOT OF VARIABLES THAT GO INTO THE PROCESS, BUT TO TRUSTEE ROBINSON'S POINT, WE CONTINUE TO GROW, THESE ARE GROWTH PAINS.

WHEN YOU SEE THE NEED FOR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND ALL THAT, IT'S BECAUSE THE STUDENTS ARE COMING IN.

MS. [INAUDIBLE] YOU MAY WANT TO ADD SOMETHING TO THAT.

>> NO. BOTH TRUSTEE ROBINSON AND DR. MCFARLAND ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

LAST YEAR, AT AROUND THIS TIME, WE ONLY HAD 22 CLASSES THAT WE SUBMITTED WAIVERS FOR.

THIS YEAR, PEIMS SNAPSHOT IS TOMORROW, AND WE ARE ALREADY AT 17,069 STUDENTS.

AS YOU ALL REMEMBER, OUR ELEMENTARY GROUP IS ONE OF OUR FASTEST-GROWING DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS.

WE'RE GOING FROM THE 22-74.

WE'RE NOT GOING OVER THE RATIO BY MUCH MORE THAN ONE OR TWO STUDENTS, BUT BECAUSE OF THE LAW, WE HAVE TO SUBMIT THE WAIVER FOR THAT.

>> TRUSTEE STEVENSON.

>> DO WE KNOW THE SCHOOL? JUST IN CASE WE HAVE QUESTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY, DO WE KNOW WHICH SCHOOLS WERE RECEIVING WAIVERS?

>> YES, MA'AM. IT'S LISTED IN THE PRESENTATION, AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT ME TO GO AHEAD AND PULL IT UP.

>> NO. IF IT'S LISTED, I CAN CHECK IT. THANK YOU.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES, ON CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS? THIS IS AN ACTION ITEM, SO IF THERE ARE NO OTHER QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS, I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.

>> I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS, FOR THE MOTION. IS THERE A SECOND?

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> THANK YOU, DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD, FOR THE SECOND.

IT'S BEEN PROPERLY MOVED AND SECONDED.

IS THERE ANY UNREADINESS? ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, MOVE TO VOTE PLEASE.

THE CONSENT AGENDA PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

WE'LL MOVE NOW TO OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEMS,

[8.0 Future Action Item(s)]

AGENDA ITEM 8.1, NEW COURSE PROPOSALS. DR. MCFARLAND.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE MS. ROE, OUR CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER, HERE TO PRESENT THE NEXT ITEM. MS. ROE.

>> PRESIDENT DAVIS, ESTEEMED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR. MCFARLAND, TONIGHT WE BRING TO YOU FOUR NEW COURSE PROPOSALS FOR FUTURE ACTION.

THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY OFFERS COURSES BASED ON THE TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE OF SKILLS AND ALSO OFFERS COURSES BASED ON INNOVATION.

ALL FOUR COURSES TONIGHT ARE STATE-APPROVED INNOVATIVE COURSES, AND ALL OF THESE INNOVATIVE COURSES DO REQUIRE BOARD APPROVAL.

FOR OUR FIRST THREE PROPOSED COURSES, DR. ANNETTE DUVALL, OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CTE AND PROGRAM EVALUATION, WILL SHARE THESE PROPOSALS.

>> GOOD EVENING, MR. PRESIDENT, DR. MCFARLAND, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

I AM PLEASED TO PRESENT OUR PROPOSED THREE NEW COURSES THIS EVENING FOR CTE.

TWO OF THOSE COURSES ALIGN WITH THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM OF STUDY, WHICH IS OFFERED BOTH AT NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

[01:00:03]

THOSE COURSES ARE PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNITY SERVICES AND THEN SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICES.

BOTH OF THESE COURSES, WE FEEL, ALIGN WITH THE INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATION OFFERED IN THAT PROGRAM OF STUDY WHICH IS COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER.

BOTH WERE RECENTLY APPROVED BY TEA TO BE PART OF THAT PROGRAM OF STUDY.

THE THIRD COURSE THAT WE'RE PROPOSING IS PART OF THE LEGAL STUDIES PROGRAM OF STUDY, WHICH IS OFFERED AT THE BILL R. JOHNSON CTE CENTER.

THE COURSE WE'RE PROPOSING IS LEGAL RESEARCH AND WRITING.

WE'VE HAD SEVERAL STUDENTS FROM THIS PROGRAM OF STUDY ENROLL IN LAW SCHOOL, FINISHED LAW SCHOOL, AND WE BELIEVE THAT THIS PARTICULAR COURSE WILL ENHANCE THEIR WRITING SKILLS, AS WELL AS SUPPORT THE CORE CONTENT AREAS.

I'M AVAILABLE FOR ANY QUESTIONS.

>> THANK YOU, DR. DUVALL. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES? TRUSTEE DAVIS?

>> THE LEGAL RESEARCH AND WRITING.

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> DO STUDENTS HAVE TO BE ENROLLED IN THAT PATHWAY IN ORDER TO ENROLL IN THIS COURSE?

>> WE GIVE FIRST PREFERENCE TO THOSE WHO HAVE SELECTED THAT PROGRAM OF STUDY, AND THEN IF THERE ARE EXTRA SEATS, WE OPEN IT UP FOR OTHER STUDENTS. YES, MA'AM.

>> THE SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY, COULD YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THAT ENTAILS, WHAT THE CONTENT WILL BE LIKE?

>> WE DO HAVE A SET OF TICKS THAT I CAN SHARE, BUT THE COURSES ARE REALLY GEARED TOWARDS THOSE WHO WANT TO GO INTO SOCIAL SERVICES, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, NON-PROFITS, AND ALIGN WITH THAT.

WE HAVE NOT BUILT THE CURRICULUM, BUT UPON APPROVAL, WE'LL BUILD THE CURRICULUM.

BUT THE TICKS ALIGN WITH THOSE DIFFERENT AREAS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> VICE PRESIDENT HALL, I BELIEVE, HAD A QUESTION.

>> I THINK TRUSTEE DAVIS TOUCHED ON WHAT I WAS ASKING.

I WANTED TO PARALLEL THIS OR MAYBE YOU EXPAND ON CCMR AND SOME OF THE CHALLENGES WE MIGHT HAVE MET THERE AND HOW THESE COURSES OR PATHWAYS MIGHT HELP REMEDY SOME OF THOSE CHALLENGES OR PROVIDE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

DID I PHRASE THAT WELL ENOUGH, ALL THOSE WORDS? [OVERLAPPING]

>> I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY DO HAVE A POST SECONDARY CREDENTIAL, WHICH MEETS THE CCMR INDICATOR.

ON THE FIRST ONE, WHICH IS THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, IT LEADS TO AN INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATION, WHICH IS COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER, AND THAT IS A CCMR INDICATOR.

IF STUDENTS ACHIEVE THAT, WE BELIEVE THE CONTENT OF THESE COURSES ALIGN WITH THAT INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATION AND SUPPORTS THE CONTENT.

THE SECOND ONE, LEGAL STUDIES, THERE ARE SOME DUAL CREDIT COURSES AVAILABLE.

IF STUDENTS GET NINE HOURS OF DUAL CREDIT, THEIR CCMR MET, BUT IT ALSO ALIGNS TO AN IBC THAT WE GIVE STUDENTS, WHICH IS THE NOCTI ADMINISTRATIVE CERTIFICATION.

THEY BOTH MEET CCMR INDICATORS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT HALL. TRUSTEE STEVENSON.

>> WITH THE FIRST ONE, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE THAT IN NINTH GRADE OR IS IT JUST NINTH GRADERS?

>> THEY WOULD START IN NINTH GRADE.

WE WOULD ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO TAKE IT IN NINTH GRADE.

WE WANT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN THESE PROGRAMS OF STUDY TO TAKE AT LEAST THREE COURSES FOR FOUR OR MORE CREDITS TO MEET ACCOUNTABILITY STANDARDS, SO THEY BUILD UPON EACH OTHER.

>> THEN THE SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, THAT WILL START AT 11TH GRADE?

>> TEA GIVES US SOME LATITUDE, THEY HAVE IT PLACED AT 11TH AND 12TH GRADE.

WE'RE RECOMMENDING THEY START THE FIRST ON PRINCIPALS IN NINTH GRADE, THEN TAKE SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICES IN 10TH GRADE, AND THEN COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH IN 11TH GRADE.

>> THANK YOU. SECRETARY ROBINSON.

>> MINE IS A COMMENT, NOT A QUESTION.

I LOVE BOTH OF THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COURSES BECAUSE WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I TOOK A SOCIOLOGY CLASS AND WE HAD TO DO COMMUNITY SERVICE, ENGAGE WITH NON-PROFITS.

I LIVE IN CHEYENNE, WYOMING, SO IT WAS A CAPITAL SEAT OF WYOMING, SO WE WERE ABLE TO VISIT THE [INAUDIBLE] AND DO SOME LEGISLATIVE WORK AT THAT TIME AND SO LOOKING AT THE LEGAL WRITING, ALL OF THIS TIES IN TOGETHER.

TRUSTEE DAVIS WAS TALKING TO TRUSTEE NICHOLAS ABOUT ADVOCACY AND THE JANITORIAL PROGRAM.

[01:05:02]

I BELIEVE ALL OF THAT TIES TOGETHER AND SO IF STUDENTS CAN DO THAT NOW WHILE THEY'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL, THAT FOLLOWS THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE.

THERE'S THINGS I REMEMBER ABOUT JUST BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL, LIKE VOLUNTEERING WITH MEALS ON WHEELS.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> SEEING PEOPLE WHO WERE IN NEED, IT REALLY TOUCHED ME BECAUSE AS A TEENAGER YOU'RE IN YOUR BUBBLE, AND YOU ARE IN THIS WORLD AND YOU'RE SO SELF CENTERED SOMETIMES.

BUT THEN SEEING PEOPLE WHO REALLY HAVE A NEED AND THAT YOU CAN TOUCH AND MEET THAT NEED IN THE COMMUNITY, THAT'S EVERLASTING.

I'M HAPPY TO SEE THESE AND I HOPE THAT MORE STUDENTS TAKE PART IN THESE PROGRAMS. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, SECRETARY ROBINSON.

I WANT TO YIELD TO OUR STUDENT TRUSTEES.

DO YOU ALL HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? NO. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, [INAUDIBLE]

>> OUR FINAL PROPOSED COURSE IS TEAM SPORT OFFICIATING.

STUDENTS IN THIS COURSE WOULD LEARN RULES AND REGULATIONS OF SELECTED TEAM SPORTS, AS WELL AS UIL SPECIFICATIONS AND YOUTH SPORTS, WHILE ALSO DEVELOPING SKILLS AND COMMUNICATION IN DECISION MAKING, AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT, AND REALLY DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES.

AT THE END OF THIS COURSE, WORKING WITH COACHES, OFFICIALS, PARENTS, PLAYERS, AND THE INSTRUCTOR, THE EXPECTATION WOULD BE THAT STUDENTS WOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO OFFICIATE AT VARIOUS LEVELS AND MANAGE THE RESPONSIBILITIES THAT COME ALONG WITH THAT ROLE.

OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, COACH WILLIAMS BROUGHT THIS COURSE AS A BENTO OFFERING FOR THE YEAR '25, '26.

TA DID APPROVE THIS A FEW YEARS BACK AS A STATE APPROVED INNOVATIVE COURSE, BEGINNING IN THE '22, '23 WITH 11 DISTRICTS WITH THE TEAM SPORT OFFICIATING COURSE AND LAST YEAR, 23 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS OFFERED THIS COURSE AS WELL.

OUR NEXT STEPS WOULD BE BRINGING BACK THESE COURSES FOR APPROVAL AT THE NOVEMBER MEETING AS THEIR STATE APPROVED INNOVATIVE COURSES, REQUIRING APPROVAL BY THE BOARD.

THEN WE WOULD OFFICIALLY ADD THEM TO OUR COURSE GUIDE AND BEGIN ADVISEMENT WITH OUR STUDENTS.

THAT CONCLUDES OUR PRESENTATION FOR OUR FUTURE ACTION FOR NEW COURSE PROPOSALS.

WE'RE HERE FOR ANY QUESTIONS.

>> THANK YOU, CHIEF ROE. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? TRUSTEE, WHAT'S IN MAYFIELD?

>> PRESIDENT DAVIS, THANK YOU.

I MISSED PART OF THE PRESENTATION, BUT I LOVE THE THREE COURSES I DID SEE, SO I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY WERE PRESENTED.

IF APPROVED, WHAT WOULD THAT BRING OUR TOTAL NUMBER TO FOR COURSES?

>> FOR ALL COURSES WE OFFER?

>> YES.

>> I CAN GET BACK TO YOU. YES.

>> NO WORRIES.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> OKAY. THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE STEVENSON.

>> IF APPROVED, WHEN WILL THESE TAKE PLACE? THE FOLLOWING 2025 SCHOOL YEAR, '24-'25?

>> '25-'26, YES.

>> '25-'26?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> VICE PRESIDENT HALL.

>> I JUST WANTED TO KNOW, WITH REGARDS TO THE TEAM SPORT OFFICIATING, IS THERE A CERTIFICATION THAT COMES ALONG WITH THIS ONE AS WELL?

>>THERE ABSOLUTELY CAN BE.

AT THE END, THEY WOULD BE SET UP TO BE TRAINED TO BE OFFICIALS.

THEN WORKING WITH COACH WILLIAMS AND THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SPORTS OFFICIALS, THERE ARE STATE DUES AND LOCAL DUES AND THEY CAN BECOME MEMBERS.

AT THAT TIME THEY WOULD BE PREPARED TO BE CERTIFIED TO WORK IN OUR COMMUNITY AS OFFICIALS.

>> THEN BY GARNERING A CERTIFICATION WITH THIS, DOES THAT ALSO CHECK A BOX FOR THEM AS THE INDICATORS OR IS THAT NOT CONSIDERED INDUSTRY CERT?

>> THIS ONE IS AN ELECTIVE CREDIT FOR GRADUATION.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES?

>> I THINK WE DO. HERE, I'M SORRY.

IS THIS MAINLY FOR CTE OR IS IT FOR THE ACTUAL HIGH SCHOOL? THEY TAKE CLASSES AT CTE OR AT THE HIGH SCHOOL?

>> THIS IS AN ELECTIVE CREDIT THAT JUST WOULD BE OFFERED AT OUR HIGH SCHOOLS.

>> AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL?

>> YES.

>> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, CHIEF ROE.

WE APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE DEPARTMENT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> WE'LL MOVE NOW TO AGENDA ITEM 8.2, RFP 0402024-2026, TECHNOLOGY LEASED MULTI-FUNCTIONAL COPIERS, DISTRICT WIDE USE. DR. MCFARLANE.

>> MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MS. POWERS IS HERE TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM. MS. POWERS.

>> GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT DAVIS, DR. MCFARLANE, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, I HAD TO PUT ON MY SPECS BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE.

MY AGE JUST CATCHING UP WITH ME.

[01:10:02]

THIS ITEM I WILL BE GOING OVER IS FUTURE ACTION.

IT'S REGARDING THE DISTRICT WIDE LEASE COPIERS THAT WE HAVE HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

OUR CURRENT VENDOR IS CANON SOLUTIONS AMERICA.

THEY HANDLE ALL OF THE LEASE COPIERS, AS WELL AS THE MAINTENANCE ON THOSE COPIERS AND THE SUPPLIES SUCH AS THE TONER AND THE PARTS THAT MAKE THE MACHINES WORK.

JUST A QUICK HISTORY.

IN 2019 OF AUGUST, I ACTUALLY PRESENTED TO THE BOARD AND IT WAS APPROVED TO CONSOLIDATE ALL CANON LEASE CONTRACTS INTO A CO-TERMINUS AGREEMENT.

BASICALLY WHAT THAT MEANS IS, WHEN I STARTED IN 2019, I STARTED WORKING ON LOOKING AT DIFFERENT CONTRACTS AND SEEING HOW WE COULD SAVE MONEY.

I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL AGREEMENTS THAT WERE SIGNED FOR CROWLEY ISD THAT HAD DIFFERENT ENDING DATES, WHICH CAUSED THE DISTRICT TO PAY MORE MONEY.

I WORKED WITH CANON.

WE WERE ABLE TO DO A CO-TERMINUS LEASE AGREEMENT, WHICH EVENTUALLY SAVED THE DISTRICT APPROXIMATELY $90,000 A YEAR, AS WELL AS THEY UPGRADED THE MACHINE SO THAT THEY COULD BE MORE UP-TO-DATE.

THE CONTRACT THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE WITH CANON SOLUTIONS AMERICA WILL BE EXPIRING AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2024.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE AGREEMENT DOESN'T HAVE ANY OPTIONAL YEARS AVAILABLE.

WE ACTUALLY HAD TO PUT OUT A NEW RFP FOR THE SERVICES.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, CROWLEY ISD HAS A TOTAL OF 115 DEVICES THAT ARE COVERED UNDER THIS CO-TERM LEASE AGREEMENT.

ADDITIONALLY, INDIVIDUAL CAMPUSES AND OUR DEPARTMENTS MAY EITHER LEASE OR PURCHASE COPIERS WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE CAMPUS BUDGETS, WHICH ARE OUTSIDE OF THE DISTRICT WIDE ALLOCATIONS.

WE DO HAVE ALLOCATIONS HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.

ELEMENTARY THROUGH NINTH GRADE, THEY RECEIVE TWO LEASE COPIERS THAT ARE PAID BY THE DISTRICT WIDE ALLOCATION FUND.

HIGH SCHOOL, THEY RECEIVE FOUR LEASE COPIER MACHINES PAID BY THE DISTRICT WIDE FUNDING SOURCE AS WELL.

CROWLEY ISD, WE DID ADVERTISE A NEW BID FOR THESE SERVICES ON AUGUST 7TH OF 2024.

THE NEW BID WILL BE FOR A TOTAL OF 66 MONTHS, OR IF YOU BREAK THAT DOWN, THAT'S FIVE AND A HALF YEARS.

THE PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE FOR THIS NEW BID WILL BE STARTING JANUARY 2025 AND GO THROUGH JUNE 30, 2026 WITH THE OPTION TO RENEW FOR AN ADDITIONAL FOUR YEARS.

CURRENTLY CROWLEY ISD SPENDS APPROXIMATELY $521,000 ANNUALLY FOR THESE CHARGES OF THE LEASE COPIERS AND THE MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT.

AGAIN, THAT COMES WITH THE TONER AND SUPPLIES.

WHAT DOES NOT COME WITH THAT IS THE PAPER.

WE ACTUALLY BUY THE PAPER SEPARATELY BECAUSE IF WE INCLUDE THAT, IT IS GOING TO HIKE THE PRICE AND I WANT TO KEEP THE PRICE DOWN.

AT THIS TIME THERE'S NO RECOMMENDATION THAT'S NEEDED BECAUSE THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

I WILL BE BRINGING IT BACK TO THE BOARD IN NOVEMBER FOR ACTION.

I WILL ENTERTAIN ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.

>> THANK YOU, MS. POWERS. VICE PRESIDENT HALL.

>> I MEAN, I CAN ADD, BUT $4,500 A MACHINE, ON AVERAGE THAT'S A GOOD PRICE.

YOU SEEM HAPPY ABOUT THAT PRICE.

>> VERY HAPPY BECAUSE OF WHAT WE'RE GETTING.

I MEAN, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT ALL OF THE REPAIRS ON THE MACHINE.

YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE TONER.

I FORGOT TO MENTION JUST THIS PAST YEAR, I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO CANON AND WE CUT A FUTURE ON THAT WAS FREE OF CHARGE.

IT'S NOW WHERE THE MACHINES WILL AUTOMATICALLY ORDER THE TONER AND SHIP IT DIRECTLY TO THE CAMPUSES SO THAT THE SECRETARIES DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THEIR TIME AND TRY TO PUT IN A REQUEST FOR TONER.

IT'S REALLY A GOOD PRICE.

>> I KNOW THAT THIS IS A BID.

DO WE ANTICIPATE THE PRICES ESCALATING MUCH? I KNOW THAT A LOT HAS CHANGED IN FIVE YEARS IN MOST INDUSTRIES.

>> IT'S DEPENDENT.

WE ARE STILL LOOKING AT THE BID.

WE DID RECEIVE FOUR RESPONSES, THOUGH.

PEOPLE ARE REALLY INTERESTED IN THIS.

I CAN TELL YOU THAT OUR VENDOR THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE, THEY GO ABOVE AND BEYOND.

THERE'S TIMES WHERE WE CAN'T EVEN ORDER A MACHINE RIGHT NOW AND SO THEY'LL GO FIND A LONER FREE OF CHARGE.

[01:15:02]

>> SHOULD WE GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION, THE TIMELINE PROVIDES FOR THAT FROM NOVEMBER IN ORDER TO BE PASSED?

>> YES.

>> IF WE WEREN'T WITH CANON AGAIN, CANON MACHINES OUT AND NEW MACHINES IN OR WHATEVER THEY WOULD BE THAT TIMELINE?

>> YES. I DID INQUIRE ABOUT THAT.

THEY SAID ABOUT 30 DAYS.

THAT'S WHY I WAS MAKING SURE THAT I BROUGHT IT TO THE BOARD IN OCTOBER FOR FUTURE AND THEN ACTION IN NOVEMBER, SO I'M GIVING THEM ENOUGH TIME.

>> THANK YOU, MS. POWERS.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT HALL. TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> DID THE CURRENT VENDOR RESPOND TO THE RFP?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> I GUESS IT WAS A CONTRACTUAL THING THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE JUST EXTENDED WHAT WE HAD WITH THEM?

>> YES, THAT'S CORRECT.

>> IF THEY'RE GOING TO APPLY AGAIN ANYWAY?

>> THAT IS CORRECT, BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL AGREEMENT IT WAS IN PLACE BEFORE ME.

BUT I CAME IN TO TRY TO SAVE US SOME MONEY.

THAT PARTICULAR ONE DID NOT HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL OPTION YEARS WHERE WE COULD EXTEND IT.

THAT WAS THE REASONING THAT WE HAD TO GO BACK OUT FOR BE IT.

THIS ONE ONCE WE AWARDED, NOT ONLY WILL IT BE FOR 66 MONTHS OR 5.5 YEARS, BUT I ALSO ALIGNED IT TO WHERE IT FALLS WITHIN OUR FISCAL YEAR.

IT'LL START JULY. WHOEVER WINS THIS BID, IT'LL START FROM JANUARY 2025.

WE'LL PUT A PO IN UNTIL JUNE 30TH OF 2025.

THEN WE'LL TURN AROUND AND PUT A NEW PO IN JULY 2025 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2026.

SORRY, I HAD TO GET MY DATE TOGETHER.

THEN WE JUST GO AND THAT WAY IT'S ALIGNMENT WITH THE BUDGET YEAR.

>> GREAT. THANK YOU.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> PRESIDENT DAVIS.

>> DR. WOODSON-MAYFIELD.

>> YES. THANK YOU.

I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT MAYBE OVERALL AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER, THAT'S FINE.

>> NO, IT'S OKAY.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND FROM A DISTRICT LEVEL, OUR DEPENDENCY ON PAPER.

I MEAN, WHERE ARE WE?

>> WITH THE PAPER SIDE OF IT?

>> WITH THE PAPER.

THE REASON WHY I'M ASKING WHERE THE TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCE IS AND EVERYTHING OVER THE YEARS, ARE WE SPENDING ABOUT THE SAME OR DOING THE SAME AMOUNT OF PAPER?

>> I WOULD SAY WE'RE ACTUALLY SPENDING A LITTLE LESS THAN.

WHEN WE DO ORDER PAPER, WE ORDER IT IN TRUCKS.

HONESTLY, WE SHOP AROUND BECAUSE I'M LOOKING FOR THE BETTER PRICE.

AS LONG AS IT WILL NOT MESS UP OUR MACHINES AND ALL.

I DON'T KNOW THE NUMBER RIGHT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD.

I CAN DEFINITELY GIVE YOU THAT INFORMATION IF YOU'D LIKE.

BUT WE'RE NOT SPENDING NEAR AS MUCH MONEY ON PAPER AS WE WERE IN THE PAST. I CAN TELL YOU THAT.

>> THAT SOUNDS GOOD. THANK YOU.

>> I JUST KNOW SOME OTHER INDUSTRIES THAT ARE LOOKING AT THEIR DEPENDENCY ON PAPER AND GOING MORE DIGITAL.

I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THAT IS A DIRECTION THAT WE'RE GOING AS A DISTRICT OR MAYBE EDUCATION AS A WHOLE.

>> I DO KNOW THAT NOT TOO LONG AGO WE INTEGRATED WHAT THEY CALL UNIFLOW, WHICH YOU HAVE TO BADGE NOW TO PRINT.

I THINK BY HAVING THAT, THAT'S DETERRING PEOPLE FROM TRYING TO JUST GO HAYWIRE AND PRINT A LOT OF STUFF.

>> TRUSTEE STEVENSON?

>> THAT WAS MY QUESTION.

DO WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY FOR BADGE?

>> YES, MA'AM.

>> WHAT ARE THE FUNCTION? IS IT FAX, IS IT COPIES?

>> YES, IT'S A MULTI-FUNCTIONAL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> TRUSTEE DAVIS.

>> CAN THE STUDENT TRUSTEES WEIGH IN ON THIS IN TERMS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK YOU'RE USING LESS PAPER AND YOUR THOUGHTS ON PAPER REDUCTION VERSUS TECHNOLOGY?

>> I KNOW SPECIFICALLY AT CTE WE DON'T USE PAPER AS MUCH.

I REMEMBER MY TEACHER WAS SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT HOW SHE'S NOT ALLOWED TO.

I FEEL I'VE CONVERTED MOSTLY ONLINE.

I FEEL LIKE WHEN I DO USE PAPER, IT THROWS ME OFF A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE I'M NOT USED TO DOING WORK ON PAPER ANYMORE.

EVERYTHING IS ONLINE, ALL MY STUFF IS DIGITAL.

WHEN I DO USE PAPER, IT'S JUST UNUSUAL BECAUSE I NEVER USE PAPER EVER.

I DON'T HAVE ANY TEACHERS THAT REALLY USE.

WE DON'T TAKE TESTS ON PAPER.

YEAH. EVERYTHING'S MOSTLY DIGITAL.

>> SAME FOR ME.

>> THANK YOU ALL FOR SHARING THAT.

[01:20:01]

THAT TELLS ME THAT WE'RE DOING A GREAT JOB.

[LAUGHTER]

>> ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES? MS. POWERS, THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS TRYING TO SAVE US MONEY.

>> YES.

>> ANYBODY KNOWS ME, YOU ARE A WOMAN AFTER MY HEART.

>> MY PLEASURE.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU.
