WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR PANTHERS, DEDICATION, AND DISCIPLINE THAT LED TO THIS VICTORY.

CROWLEY ISD SENT 19 STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN GAMES LIKE SUPER SMASH BROS, FORTNITE, MADDEN, AND OVERWATCH, WHERE NORTH CROWLEY'S OVERWATCH TEAM BROUGHT HOME THE CHAMPIONSHIP BELT.
CONGRATULATIONS TO RICARDO GALLEGOS, MARK HERNANDEZ, ZACH PONTES, NATHAN WONG, CARTER LENAHAN, AND COREY VALSON FOR BRINGING THE TITLE HOME.

IT'S THE END OF THE YEAR, AND MANY OF OUR CAMPUSES ARE PERFORMING, AND I ATTENDED A FEW OF THE PERFORMANCES.
ONE OF THEM WAS THE MUSIC CLUB CONCERT AT CROWLEY MONTESSORI ACADEMY.
THIS CONCERT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO EXPLORE HOW MUSIC IS CONNECTED TO MATH, SCIENCE, AND OTHER ACADEMICS.
THE STUDENTS DID A WONDERFUL JOB, AND THE CONCERT WAS DIRECTED BY A PARENT VOLUNTEER AND HER HUSBAND.
PARENTS, IF YOU HAVE A TALENT OR SKILL THAT WILL BENEFIT OUR STUDENTS, WE NEED YOU.
I ALSO ATTENDED THE MUSICAL MAGICAL NIGHT ON BROADWAY AT CHS.
I LIKE TO REFER TO IT AS THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA BECAUSE THE OPENING SONG WAS THE OPENING SONG TO PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, AND YOU COULDN'T TELL ME THAT WASN'T WHAT I WAS WATCHING.
WE HAVE SOME INCREDIBLY TALENTED STUDENTS AND EVEN MORE TALENTED MUSIC STAFF THAT GUIDES THEM ON THEIR CREATIVE JOURNEY.
THE SINGING, CHOREOGRAPHY, AND COSTUMES WERE SPECTACULAR AND SO CREATED.
I KNOW IT WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH A SHOESTRING BUDGET, BUT IT WAS TRULY, EXCUSE ME, MAGICAL.
I ALSO ATTENDED THE SEAL OF BITERACY EVENT.
THIS IS A RECOGNITION AWARDED TO GRADUATING SENIORS WHO DEMONSTRATE PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH AND ANOTHER WORLD LANGUAGE.
I THINK WE HAD 125 STUDENTS THAT RECEIVED CHORDS FOR THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS.
YOU MAY ASK YOURSELF, HOW FINE ARTS IS CONNECTED TO BITERACY, OR LITERACY PERIOD.
LET ME REMIND YOU THAT FINE ARTS ARE A VITAL PART OF A COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION, FOSTERING A WIDE RANGE OF SKILLS AND BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS.
THE NEURO MUSIC OF SCIENCE, WHEN IT COMES TO BRAIN ACTIVITY, MUSIC ACTIVATES VARIOUS PARTS OF THE BRAIN, INCLUDING AREAS INVOLVED IN AUDITORY PROCESSING, MOTOR SKILLS, MEMORY, AND EMOTION.
NEUROSCIENCE RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT MUSIC CAN INFLUENCE BRAIN WAVE ACTIVITY.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN FINE ARTS HAS SHOWN IMPROVEMENT IN WRITING AND READING SKILLS, HIGHER GRADUATION RATES, BETTER TEST SCORES, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, FOCUS AND DISCIPLINE, MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCES, AND CREATIVITY THAT LEADS TO OWNERSHIP, AND IT FOSTERS A CULTURE OF CONNECTION.
MUSIC EDUCATION CAN SIGNIFICANTLY BENEFIT BY LITERACY DEVELOPMENT.
MUSIC EXPOSURE CAN INCREASE VOCABULARY AND PSYCHOLOGICAL AWARENESS.

JOHNSON CTE CENTER.
FROM RACING SELF-BUILT CARS AND FLYING DRONES TO LAUNCHING ROCKETS AND PROGRAMMING ROBOTS.
THE DAY WAS PACKED WITH CREATIVITY, CURIOSITY, AND NEXT-GENERATION INNOVATION.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, SH CROWLEY WAS NAMED ELEMENTARY STEM SCHOOL OF THE YEAR, AND SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS NAMED SECONDARY STEM SCHOOL OF THE YEAR.
EACH SCHOOL RECEIVED A TROPHY, AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE BANNERS ON THE BUILDING, AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE NEXT YEAR, BECAUSE I THINK IT WAS A HIT.

ON THURSDAY, MAY 8, WE HOSTED WHAT WE CALLED A COMMUNITY CALL-IN EVENT WHERE PARENTS, FAITH-BASED LEADERS, BUSINESS PEOPLE, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS CAME TOGETHER WITH CISD STAFF FOR MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION AND COLLABORATION AROUND OUR VISION 2030, SPECIFICALLY GOAL 2, BUILDING AN ENGAGED COMMUNITY.
PARTICIPANTS LEARNED ABOUT THE STOPPA APP, HOW TO BECOME VOLUNTEERS, AND HOW TO EFFECTIVELY ENGAGE WITH THE DISTRICT TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE THIS SUMMER.
TOGETHER, WE'RE WORKING TO STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIPS AND ENSURE THAT EVERY VOICE IS HEARD IN SHAPING THE FUTURE OF OUR STUDENTS.

WE'VE GOT EXPENDITURES AND OUR PLANT MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS, OUR PUPIL TRANSPORTATION THAT IT FAR EXCEED WHAT WE PROJECTED.
YOU'LL SEE THAT THE REVENUES COME IN SHORT OF OUR ORIGINAL BUDGETED PROJECTION AT 187 MILLION, AND THE EXPENDITURES WOULD COME IN AT APPROXIMATELY 195 MILLION, LEAVING US WITH A VARIANCE OF A -$8 MILLION.
THAT IS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO.
MOVING FORWARD, I WANT TO SHOW THE BOARD IN AN ATTEMPT TO MANAGE EXPECTATIONS AND SHOW THE BOARD THE MOST LIKELY CASE.
IN THE MOST LIKELY CASE, OUR REVENUE WOULD BE 189 MILLION AND OUR EXPENDITURES WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 187 MILLION LEAVING US WITH JUST SHORT OF $2 MILLION THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO PUT INTO FUND BALANCE.
AGAIN, I CONTRAST THAT WITH THE PLANNED BUDGET, WHERE WE HAD THE PLAN UTILIZATION OF ESSENTIALLY $4 MILLION THAT WAS GOING TO BE UTILIZED FROM VARIOUS ALTERNATIVE SOURCES, FUND BALANCE, ANY DAY FUND, IF YOU WILL, AND THE WORKMAN'S COMP FUND BALANCE.
WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT'S BEEN DONE BY OUR ENTIRE CROWLEY ISD TEAM.

ONE OF THOSE ADDITIONAL REVENUE OPPORTUNITIES, NOT ONLY IS IT GOING TO BE GOOD FOR DEVELOPING A COLLEGE GOING CULTURE AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVELS, BUT WE'VE PURSUED THE 1882 PARTNERSHIP WITH PAUL QUINN COLLEGE, AND IT'S GOING TO BE AWESOME FOR OUR DISTRICT AND THE STUDENTS IN OUR DISTRICT.
WE MADE SURE THAT WE WERE STRATEGICALLY UTILIZING ALL OF OUR GRANT FUNDS, OR THE PERSONNEL FUNCTIONS THAT WOULD BE BETTER SUITED UNDER THE GRANTS.
WE DID THAT. WE UNDERSTOOD THE NEED TO COMPENSATE OUR EMPLOYEES, AND WE DID WHAT WE COULD AT THE TIME, UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES WITH THE ONE TIME PAY.

WE NEED WAGES TO PAY FOR SOME OF THOSE RISING COSTS.
THE INCREASE IN THE DISTRICT'S HEALTH INSURANCE CONTRIBUTION.

THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE ARE FOCUSED ON AS WE PREPARE OUR 2025 '26 BUDGET.

OUR EXTERNAL SERVICE PROVIDERS TRANSPORTATION, CUSTODIAL SERVICES, FOOD SERVICES.
MANY OF THE CONTRACTS HAVE A CPI INDEX ESCALATOR IN THOSE CONTRACTS.
WE'LL CONTINUE TO SEE THOSE COSTS RISE, AS YOU REMEMBER, WE NEGOTIATED CONTRACT REDUCTIONS LAST YEAR WITH THOSE THREE PROVIDERS.

IT'S A RANGE, IF YOU WILL, $6,380 PER STUDENT, UP TO, I THINK THE LARGEST NUMBER I'VE HEARD IS $6,555 PER STUDENT.
THAT'S A SIGNIFICANT RANGE, AND IT WOULD GENERATE SIGNIFICANT REVENUE OUTCOMES BASED UPON WHICHEVER IS ACTUALLY VOTED IN.
PROPERTY TAX. DEFINITELY, WE UNDERSTAND THAT THAT IS A STRONG ISSUE ON THE AGENDA, REDUCING PROPERTY TAX FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS.
WE'VE ALSO HAD MANY CONVERSATIONS ABOUT EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNTS.
THEN ALSO, THERE'S TWO BILLS, BOTH IN THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE THAT WOULD INCREASE THE SCHOOL SAFETY ALLOTMENT.
THAT WOULD BE A BENEFIT TO CROWLEY ISD FOR SURE.

WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN INCREASE TO THE BASIC ALLOTMENT SINCE 2019, SIX YEARS AGO.

WE ARE STILL HAVING TO MAKE SOME VERY DIFFICULT DECISIONS SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE HONOR THE HEROES THAT WORK IN CROWLEY ISD.
I JUST WANT TO LIFT FOR OUR CONSIDERATION AS A COMMUNITY THAT EVEN AS OUR LEGISLATORS ARE TAKING THIS VICTORY LAB AND SAYING, WE'RE MAKING A HISTORIC INVESTMENT INTO PUBLIC EDUCATION, IT LITERALLY IS DROPPING PENNIES IN THE BUCKET.
THAT'S ALL. I'M GOING TO GET OFF MY SOAPBOX NOW.
I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS THINKING CORRECTLY.
I APPLAUD YOU ALL FOR WHAT IT IS THAT YOU'VE DONE BECAUSE WE PASSED THE DEFICIT BUDGET THIS YEAR, UNFORTUNATELY, EXPECTING TO SPEND SOMEWHERE AROUND $4 MILLION OUT OF OUR SAVINGS PER SE.

DEFINITELY THE TEAM HAS WORKED EXTREMELY HARD AND YOU'LL SEE SOME POSITIVE TRENDS HERE IN A SECOND, BUT I'M DEFINITELY THANKFUL TO DR.
GRANT AND THE ENTIRE TEAM FOR THE WORK THAT THEY'VE DONE.
IT'S BEEN REALLY GOOD TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT, AND I KNOW THAT OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS WE'LL SEE THE RESULTS FROM THIS.

AND WE DO HAVE SOME OF THEM WITH US TODAY.THESE STUDENTS BRAVED A FULL DAY. WOULD YOU PLEASE STAND? THESE STUDENTS BRAVED A FULL DAY WITH ME TO NOT ONLY HAVE A CRASH COURSE ON WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CCMR MET AND HOW THAT WORKS TOWARDS THEM BEING FUTURE READY.
IN ADDITION TO THAT, THEY WENT THROUGH LEADERSHIP AND THEY PLAYED THE JEOPARDY GAME AND THEY HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME THEY WON.
AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I KEEP TELLING THEM.
WE HAD A DESIGN SESSION WHERE THEY REALLY WORKED ON ALL OF THE ADDITIONAL INITIATIVES THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE LAUNCHING FOR STUDENTS IN RELATION TO FUTURE READINESS, THAT DESIGN SESSION INCLUDED THEM CREATING A SKIT, THEM WORKING ON MARKETING AND BRANDING DESIGNS, SO THAT THEY CAN COME TOGETHER AND PROVIDE INFORMATION TO THEIR PEERS.
THEY WANTED THEM TO BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE FUTURE READY AND TRULY SPEAK IT IN THEIR TERMS. DEFINITELY WANTING TO THANK THEM.
WE CURRENTLY HAVE 21 STUDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN NOMINATED AND HAVE ACCEPTED.
THEY RECEIVED THEIR PERMISSION SLIPS AND HAVE SUBMITTED ALL OF THAT INFORMATION, EVEN THOUGH WE DO HAVE SOME GRADUATES THAT WILL BE LEAVING US THIS YEAR.
BUT WE HOPE FOR THAT NUMBER TO GROW, I WANT TO THANK MR. MUHAMMAD FOR HELPING US GET STUDENTS IN THE CAMPUS PRINCIPALS FOR REALLY BEING ACTIVELY ENGAGED.

IT TRULY IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT OF EVERYONE WORKING TOGETHER AND COMMUNICATING WITH THE CAMPUSES.
AND ALL OF THE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS THAT ARE WORKING TOGETHER.
IT TAKES MS. RICK THAT'S A PART OF DOCTOR DUVAL'S DEPARTMENT TO TRACK THE STUDENTS IN THE P TECH PROGRAM AND TO ALERT WHEN THERE ARE ISSUES AND CONVERSATIONS AND COMMUNICATE WITH MR. BROWN AND HIS CAMPUS AT THE CTE CAMPUS AS WELL WITH CCA.

WHERE DOES ALL OF THAT INFORMATION? WHAT DOES IT CULMINATE? HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT XAVIER HALL IS CCMR-READY SOMEWHERE?

HE WENT TO TCC AND TOOK THE TEST AND WAS LIKE, I JUST NEED THIS TO PASS. I'M DROPPING THAT.
HAD I KNOWN THAT HE COULD HAVE DONE THAT SOONER.
HE WAS ONLY ENROLLED IN THE CLASS MAYBE A WEEK OR TWO, TOOK IT AT TCC, SHOWED THAT HE WAS COMPLETE IN MATH, AND DIDN'T NEED IT ANYMORE.
