[3.0 Board Celebrations]
OUR FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS TONIGHT WILL BE OUR BOARD CELEBRATIONS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING TO SHARE. I DO. MS. BENTON. THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE BRIEFLY SOME NEW LEARNING THAT CAME FROM THE [INAUDIBLE] TASB MEETING THAT WE ATTENDED IN SEPTEMBER. I ATTENDED A SESSION THAT WAS CALLED STUDENT OUTCOME GOALS. A CHANGE IN MINDSET. IT WAS PRESENTED BY SAN ELIZARIO ISD WHICH IS NEAR EL PASO AND THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE SCHOOL BOARD WENT THROUGH LONESTAR GOVERNANCE TRAINING AND THAT IS A TRAINING THAT OUR BOARD IS GOING TO BE AS YOU KNOW THAT OUR BOARD IS GOING TO BE ATTENDING TOGETHER IN JANUARY. AND SO I WAS ABLE TO LEARN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS TRAINING THERE AND THE EXPERIENCES OF THEIR BOARD AND WHAT HAS COME OUT OF THAT WHICH WAS ALL VERY VERY GOOD. ONE OF THE THE BIG STATEMENTS THAT THEY REPEATED OFTEN DURING THAT SESSION WAS THAT STUDENT OUTCOMES DON'T CHANGE UNTIL ADULT BEHAVIORS CHANGE AND THOSE BEHAVIORS WERE DEFINED BY A LOT OF THINGS. PART OF THAT IS ADULT MINDSETS INCLUDING WHAT THEY FOCUS ON WHAT THEIR VISION IS WHAT THEY[00:05:06]
DEVOTE THEIR TIME AND ATTENTION TO AND THAT THAT STARTS WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL AND IN A SCHOOL DISTRICT SHOULD START WITH THE BOARD. AND SO LONESTAR GOVERNMENTS HAS FIVE PILLARS ASSOCIATED WITH THAT. ONE IS VISION. ANOTHER IS ACCOUNTABILITY STRUCTURE UNITY AND ADVOCACY. AND SOME OF THE KEY PIECES AND THIS WAS NOT AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST BUT SOME OF THE KEY ACTIONS THAT THEY DISCUSSED WAS THE PARTICULAR KIND OF NEEDS ASSESSMENT THAT IS PRODUCED FROM LONESTAR GOVERNMENTS TRAINING AND THE USE OF A BOARD TRACKER WHICH ACTUALLY TRACKS THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD SPENDS DISCUSSING STUDENT OUTCOMES AND VERSUS OTHER THINGS.AND SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH THE BOARD MEMBERS THAT WEREN'T ABLE TO ATTEND THAT SESSION BECAUSE WE WERE ALL ATTENDING DIFFERENT SESSIONS BUT ALSO TO SHARE WITH THE FOLKS HERE TONIGHT THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE'RE DEVOTED TO DOING TOGETHER AS A BOARD AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO REPORT MORE ON THAT AFTER OUR EXPERIENCE IN LATE JANUARY. THANK YOU. IT'S BEEN. ANY OTHER BOARD CELEBRATIONS.
WELL I HAVE ONE I'D LIKE TO SHARE THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED TODAY. I WAS INVITED TO BE A JUDGE AT A MAC AND CHEESE THROWDOWN. VERY INTERESTING. IT WAS A DAVID L. WALKER AND I JUST WANT TO APPLAUD THE STAFF THERE FOR KEEPING IT INTERESTING. AND IT ALSO HAPPENED TO BE CAREER DAY. AND AS I WAS ARRIVING THE LITTLE BITTY PRE-K STUDENTS WERE ALL DRESSED IN SURGEONS UNIFORMS AND THEY WERE DOING A PARADE AROUND THE BUILDING. CUTEST THING EVER. SO ANYWAY I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT. LIKE I SAID IT KEEPS IT INTERESTING THE TEACHERS WERE ALL EXCITED ABOUT IT AND AND MOTIVATED AND MR. [INAUDIBLE] WAS THERE WITH ME AS A JUDGE. SO ANYWAY I WAS A LOT OF FUN AND I THINK THE STAFF REALLY ENJOYED IT. ANYTHING ELSE. OK. WE WILL MOVE NOW TO OUR BOARD REPORT
[4.0 Board Report Item(s)]
ITEMS. [LAUGHING] SO WE'VE HAD ONE REPORT IS THERE ANOTHER REPORT FROM [INAUDIBLE] TASB?. MS ROBINSON I ATTENDED A SESSION CALLED EDUCATING THROUGH EMPOWERMENT. AND SINCE I WAS A TEEN SUMMIT SESSION. AND SO I WAS REALLY ENGAGED IN IT BECAUSE WHEN I WAS GROWING UP THERE USED TO BE THE SHOW CALLED TEEN SUMMIT ON BET AND I'LL WAKE UP EARLY IN THE MORNING TO WATCH IT. I STILL REMEMBER THAT THEME SONG. AND THEN THE HOST ANANDA LEWIS LEFT TO BE AT MTV SO I KNOW MTV DOESN'T PLAY VIDEOS ANYMORE BUT SHE HAS A [INAUDIBLE] AND I JUST REMEMBER THAT. SO THIS SUMMIT THAT THIS HIGH SCHOOL HELD FOR ITS STUDENTS WELL THE SAME PREMISE. THEY HAD DIFFERENT SESSIONS RELEVANT TO GIRLS BOYS AND VARIOUS ETHNICITIES FOCUSED ON SENIORS. SO I'LL GO THROUGH. SOME OF THE PIPELINE SO THEY SAID TO PLAN EARLY. SO PLAN EARLY GET TEENS ENGAGED IN THE PLANNING MAKE IT FREE TO TEENS ARE AT A NOMINAL FEE LIKE 10 DOLLARS OR BELOW AND THEN HAVE SPONSORS COVER THE OTHER COST. BUT THEY HAD FOUR PATHWAYS SO ONE WAS FOCUSED ON CAREERS AND THEY HAD DIFFERENT SESSIONS THAT YOU COULD ATTEND UNDER CAREERS REDEFINING READY. AND SO THAT WAS LIKE CHANGING THE CORE RATE CHANGING THE WORLD CAREER PATHWAYS AND. ENGAGING IN SOCIAL JUSTICE. BUILDING A LEGACY. SO DEFINING YOUR LEGACY WITH YOUR POST-SECONDARY LEGACY. FINANCIAL LEGACY.SO THERE'S DIFFERENT STRANDS UNDER THAT ONE AND THEN LIFE READY GROWTH MINDSET DEDICATION EDUCATION RESPONSIBILITY AND THEN COMMUNITY SERVICE. AND THEN THEY SAID PICK A THEME BECAUSE EVERYONE LOVES THINGS YOU CAN BLAST THIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. DO SOMETHING EVERY WEEKEND SO INSTEAD OF DOING ONE BIG. MEDIA RELEASE DO SOMETHING EVERY WEEK TO GET PEOPLE ENGAGED IN SELECT DYNAMIC SPEAKERS THAT WOULD BE DYNAMIC TO TEENS NOT ADULT DYNAMIC BUT TEEN AND DYNAMIC AND EMPOWERING. SO THE FIRST STEP WAS BUILDING A SUPPORT TEAM. IDENTIFYING STUDENTS. SO WE DID IT WE COULD PARTNER.
[00:10:02]
SO LIKE ALL SENIORS I JUST SELECT THE GROUP OF THEM. THE SECOND STEP WAS ENGAGING COMMUNITY PARTNERS WHO ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A SPONSOR THIS EVENT. SELECT SUPPORT ADMINISTRATORS. STEP THREE WAS PICKING A THEME THAT ALIGNED WITH THE DISTRICT'S GOAL VISION AND MISSION FIND TIME TO PLAN. SO PLAN EARLY AND THEN THE LAST STEP WAS FINDING IDEAS FOR GROWTH PARTNERSHIP AND EXPANSION. SO AGAIN I JUST REALLY LIKED IT. IT JUST REMINDED ME OF MY YOUTH AND I THINK IT WAS SOMETHING THAT OUR STUDENTS WOULD REALLY ENJOY AND APPRECIATE. THANK YOU MISS ROBINSON. AND I AM SO SORRY I HAVE ANOTHER BOARD CELEBRATION. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK SCHOOL EDUCATORS CONFERENCE LAST WEEK AND IN WHICH OUR OWN DR. MACFARLANE IS THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT AND I THINK IT BROKE ATTENDANCE RECORD. AND I'M GOING TO SAY THIS BECAUSE OF HIS LEADERSHIP BUT IT WAS A GREAT CONFERENCE. AND WHILE WE WERE THERE THERE WE HAD SOME STUDENT PERFORM.THEY WEREN'T PERFORMERS THEY PARTICIPATED IN A PANEL DISCUSSION AND THEY REPRESENTED CROWLEY ISD VERY WELL. WE ALSO HAD MR. CARRUTHERS AND FOUR STUDENTS WERE THERE PROVIDING PHOTOGRAPHY SO VERY VERY. GOOD CONFERENCE. AND ONE SPEAKER IN PARTICULAR. AND I'M SURE YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THIS LATER BUT DR.. DANIEL DICKEY. HIS BOOK THAT REALLY IMPRESSED ME IS THAT GROWTH IS GOOD AND ALL AND ALL BUT PROFICIENCY IS THE BAR. PERIOD. OK SO SOMETHING ELSE FOR US TO. FOR AND THAT IS PROFICIENCY. AND LIKE I SAID WE CERTAINLY WANT A YEAR'S GROWTH BUT WE'RE OUR GOAL IS PROFICIENCY. SO I JUST WANT TO SHARE THAT RIGHT QUICK AND NOW WE'LL MOVE TO THE COUNCIL OF URBAN BOARDS OF EDUCATION ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN MIAMI FLORIDA. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING TO SHARE THEIR. OK. LET'S NOT TALK TOO MUCH. I HAVE ONE THING THAT HAS REALLY REALLY RESONATED ME FROM THAT CONFERENCE AND IT IS IF YOUR DREAMS FOR YOUR STUDENTS DON'T SCARE YOU THEY'RE NOT BIG ENOUGH.
OK. THAT HAS BEEN PLAYING IN MY HEAD. AND WHEN DO WE GO TO FLORIDA. LONG TIME AGO.
AND IT JUST RESONATES WITH ME AND WHENEVER I THINK ABOUT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENT THAT IMMEDIATELY COMES TO MIND. SO SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. OK. SO NOW WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO OUR RECOGNITION ITEMS CISD
[5.0 Recognition Item(s)]

[APPLAUSE] SO I THINK I SPEAK ON BEHALF OF ALL OF US WHEN WE TELL MISS BRISCOE THAT WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT SHE DOES. SHE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND NO MATTER WHAT'S HAPPENING AT HOME. SHE GIVES THE BEST FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF SO WE APPRECIATE HER WE LOVE HER. WE'RE ROOTING FOR HER AND WE'RE PRAYING FOR YOU. AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU BACK IN JANUARY. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SHAKE YOUR HONOR. I'D LIKE TO DO SOMETHING I'D LIKE TO SAY BEFORE YOU COME UP HERE. SO. I HAD A CHANCE TO WITNESS FIRSTHAND THE CHARACTER OF MISS BRISCOE. I WAS INVITED TO THE SCHOOL FOR THE SURPRISE PARTY AND THE WAY THEY SURPRISED HER IS THAT THEY GAVE HER A LAST MINUTE. ASSIGNMENT TO PRESENT IN A FAKE FACULTY MEETING. BUT THEY ALL GATHERED AND AT THE LAST MINUTE I THINK THEY TOLD YOU THAT YOU NEEDED TO PULL[00:20:04]
SOMETHING TOGETHER TO PRESENT. BUT THEY DID THAT BECAUSE THEY KNEW SHE WOULD COME THROUGH FOR THEM IN A PINCH. AND AND SHE DID. AND I THINK THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES OF WHO YOU ARE AND THE CONFIDENCE AND FAITH THAT YOUR CO-WORKERS HAVE IN YOU. SO CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE][6.0 Board President Reviews Open-Forum Regulations / Open Forum]

BENNETT 4 0 8 PEMBERTON WHITE SETTLEMENT TEXAS. DR. MACFARLANE MADAM PRESIDENT BOARD. I THINK I'VE BEEN HERE A FEW TIMES. I THINK I'VE EXPRESSED MY SUPPORT FOR [INAUDIBL] FOR THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS BUT I'M NOT HERE TO TALK ABOUT GARY TONIGHT. I THINK HE'S THE BEST CANDIDATE AND THAT'S ALL I'M GONNA SAY.WHAT I'D LIKE TO TALK ABOUT ARE ALL THE OTHER CANDIDATES I WANT TO TAKE YOU BACK.
TO SEPTEMBER 16TH 2011. THE BOARD CONSISTED OF CHAIRMAN [INAUDIBLE] MIKE GLASBY [INAUDIBLE] TOMMY BROWN AND JON [INAUDIBLE]. THIS WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE SOFTWARE DEBACLE. THEY MADE THE FIRST PAYMENT THE MANAGER ON IT'S IN THE BOARD MINUTES I HAVE ALL THE BOARD MINUTES HERE FOR FOUR YEARS. AND BASICALLY MANATRON WAS PAID THEIR FIRST PAYMENT FOR THE SOFTWARE. THE NEXT WILL BE FOR HARDWARE STORAGE DEVICES AND WE KNOW HOW THAT ENDED VERY BADLY.
IT COST THE COUNTY 200 MILLION DOLLARS WAS THE ESTIMATE IN 2015 WHEN IT WENT LIVE.
NOW I KNOW MIKE AND [INAUDIBLE] ARE ON THE BALLOT. THEY HAVE COME BACK I THINK ANYBODY THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THAT SOFTWARE SHOULD NOT GET A VOTE ONE. ALSO.
IT IS NOW I'VE BEEN INFORMED THAT [INAUDIBLE] HAS BEEN SOLD. AS OF YESTERDAY.
TO HARRIS PUBLIC GROUP. THOMPSON NO LONGER SERVICES IT. THEY MAY NOT SERVICE IT THEY MAY HARRIS MAY KICK IT TO THE CURB IT WAS A TAX PACKAGE. IT DOESN'T WORK.
IT'S NOT COST EFFECTIVE. I THINK POTENTIALLY [INAUDIBLE] MAYBE WITHOUT SOFTWARE. AND WE'RE GOING TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER CONVERSION POTENTIALLY JUST LIKE WE DID IN TWENTY FOURTEEN. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO VET THESE CANDIDATES FOR ALL THE BOARDS AND TARRANT COUNTY CAN UNDERSTAND WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE WHAT THEIR GOALS ARE. INTERVIEWS CHANDLER CROPS HAS BEEN REACHING OUT. ALL NINE CANDIDATES ONLY THREE PARTICIPATED. I'M NOT GONNA TELL YOU WHICH THREE PARTICIPATED I'LL TELL YOU WHICH ONES DIDN'T PARTICIPATE BUT THE ONES THAT DIDN'T PARTICIPATE BASICALLY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME. THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS WITH THIS BOARD BASICALLY. I KNOW GARY DID HIS INTERVIEW. I THINK HE WAS IN GREECE. HE'D BE HERE TONIGHT BUT I THINK HE'S IN ITALY. IT WAS IT WAS A PREPLANNED VACATION. I ASKED THIS BOARD. BECAUSE. IT MEANS A LOT TO HAVE GOOD SERVICE AND YOU JUST REWARDED THAT WONDERFUL LADY TONIGHT. BECAUSE SHE GIVES
[00:25:02]
WONDERFUL SERVICE. YOU DON'T GET THAT KIND OF SERVICE FROM TAD AND THAT'S THE SERVICE EVERY ONE OF YOU AND EVERYONE OF YOUR CITIZENS BEHIND ME DESERVE. SHE'S THE ROLE MODEL. NOT THE EXCEPTION. AND I HOPE YOU'LL SUPPORT AND CONSIDER MR. [INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME. THANK YOU MR. BENNETT. WE WILL MOVE NOW TO OUR[7.0 Consent Agenda]
CONSENT AGENDA. ARE THERE ANY ITEMS A MEMBER WOULD LIKE TO HAVE REMOVED. IF NOT IS THERE A MOTION. I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED OF A MOTION BY DR. MAYFIELD IS THERE SECOND? SECOND. A SECOND BY MS. ROBINSON. MOVE TO VOTE PLEASE.THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. WE'LL MOVE NOW TO OUR REPORT
[8.0 Report Item(s) / Presentation(s)]
ITEMS PRESENTATIONS DISTRICT CYBER SECURITY DR. MACFARLANE. MADAM PRESIDENT BOARD MEMBERS WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED ABOUT BRINGING THIS ITEM AND YOU'LL HEAR WHY HERE IN A SECOND BUT I JUST WANT TO INFORM YOU THAT YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS PLAYING SPORTS AND GROWING UP I HAD A COACH WHO ALWAYS SAY THESE THINGS THAT STUCK WITH ME HE SAID WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE THERE ARE THREE THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD DO. YOU SHOULD EVER DO ABOUT IT. NUMBER ONE. ADMIT IT. NUMBER TWO LEARN FROM IT. AND THEN NUMBER THREE DON'T REPEAT IT AGAIN. AND WHAT I CAN TELL YOU IS THAT THIS TIME LAST YEAR WE HAD A MISTAKE THAT WAS MADE AS WELL AS THE CYBER SECURITY. WHAT YOU GOT HERE IS A REPORT THAT SHOWS THAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM IT AND WE ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO MAKE SURE WE DON'T REPEAT IT AGAIN. BUT TONIGHT I BELIEVE IS A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION AND I'LL ALLOW MR. ALLEN TO SPEAK TO THAT SPEECH TO OUR CYBER SECURITY AND KIND OF WHAT HAS GONE ON AND WHAT HAS HAPPENED AS A RESULT. THANK YOU MISS DAVIS. DR. MACFARLANE AND MEMBERS OF BOARD WANT TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE AS DR. MACFARLANE HAS SAID EARLIER ABOUT SOME THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON IN CYBER SECURITY IN THE UNITED STATES. CYBER SECURITY INCIDENTS THAT ARE OCCURRING ARE OCCURRING AT A RAPID PACE SINCE 2016 HAS BEEN SEVEN HUNDRED TWENTY NINE INCIDENTS NATIONWIDE. VERY SIMILAR TO THE ONE THAT WE EXPERIENCED IN AUGUST I DID THIS PRESENTATION TO THE ADMINISTRATORS AND THERE WERE 79 INCIDENTS IN TEXAS. NOW WE'RE IN NOVEMBER AND THERE'S OVER 100. THESE INCIDENTS ARE GROWING. THEY'RE GROWING FASTER. THE MAIN ONE THAT I'M CONCERNED ABOUT IS THE ONE UP THERE THAT HAPPENED A YEAR AGO YESTERDAY A YEAR AGO YESTERDAY WE WERE HIT WITH A BUSINESS EMAIL COMPROMISE SCHEME LAST FRIDAY. THEY TRIED TO DO IT AGAIN. NOW. I WILL TELL YOU THAT THEY TARGETED A NEW PERSON WITHIN OUR ACCOUNTS PAYABLE DEPARTMENT WHICH TELLS ME THAT THEY ARE WATCHING. AND THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THINGS ONLINE. BUT MS. ADRIANNE OVER HERE AND MS. DEB AND OUR FINANCE TEAM THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE THE ISSUES THAT HAPPENED WITH THIS EMAIL. THEY RECOGNIZED THE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITH THEM. THEY STUCK TO THEIR TRAINING. THEY NOTIFIED THE P THE PEOPLE THAT NEEDED TO BE NOTIFIED. THEY PICKED UP THE PHONE. MADE A PHONE CALL TO VERIFY OUR CFO STACY ADRIAN AND LEON FISHER OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE HAVE PUT ALL KINDS OF SYSTEMS IN PLACE TO ENSURE THAT THIS TYPE OF THING DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THEY FOLLOWED THE PROTOCOLS AND I JUST WANT TO APPLAUD THEM FOR FOR KEEPING THAT AT WHAT IT WAS IS SIMPLY AN E-MAIL THAT GOT DELETED. SO I JUST WANT TO THANK THE. AS I DID A GREAT JOB AND YOU KNOW THE WHERE WE'VE COME FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS STARTED PUTTING IN SOME LEGISLATION BECAUSE OF ALL THESE INCIDENTS THAT ARE OCCURRING. BILL 820 IS A SCHOOL DISTRICT CYBER SECURITY POLICY WHERE EVERYBODY HAS TO HAVE ONE NOW AND THEY ALSO HAVE TO NOTE THAT THERE IS A CYBER SECURITY COORDINATOR THAT IS IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH THE STATE OF TEXAS NTEA IN CASE OF ANYTHING THAT OCCURS. WE'RE WAY AHEAD OF THAT. WE HAD A CYBER SECURITY POLICY IN PLACE THAT I PRESENT TO YOU GUYS BACK IN MARCH. AND HERE ARE SOME OF THE REASONS WHY WE DID THAT PHISHING EMAILS WE GET ABOUT EIGHT HUNDRED SEVENTY ONE A WEEK THAT'S OVER 40000 45000 EMAILS A YEAR THAT WE GET. SO WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY BE TEACHING OUR TEACHERS AND EVERY INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS AN EMAIL ADDRESS WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY BE TRAINING THEM ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR. WE'VE DONE A GREAT JOB THE INDUSTRY STANDARD WITH EDUCATION IS 27 PERCENT THAT WILL CLICK ON AN EMAIL.CROWLEY ISD AS A DISTRICT IS DOWN TO 7 PERCENT. SO WE ARE WAY ABOVE THE CURVE DIRECT THREATS TO OUR NETWORK AS FAR AS VIRUS SPYWARE ANY KIND OF ATTACK WE GET ABOUT 90 TO A WEEK ON AVERAGE AND WE TURN AWAY THOSE 92 WE'RE WORKING
[00:30:02]
THAT'S NOT TO SAY THAT WE CAN STOP EVERYTHING BECAUSE SOMETHING'S GOING TO COME OUT EVERY DAY BUT WE WORKED REALLY HARD TO KEEP SAFE OUR 10000 RECORDS FOR FACULTY THAT WE HAVE IN OUR. FINANCIAL INFORMATION SYSTEM SKYWARD. WE'VE GOT OVER 10000 RECORDS OF PAST AND PRESENT EMPLOYEES THAT ARE IN THERE THAT INCLUDE SO SECURITY NUMBERS BANKING NUMBERS RETIREMENT TAX STOCK DOCUMENTS EVERYTHING INSIDE THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY NEED FROM AN EMPLOYER. WE HAVE THAT. SO WE HAVE TO PROTECT IT FOR OUR STUDENTS RIGHT NOW IN SORT OF SKYWARD. WE'VE GOT FORTY FIVE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED SEVEN RECORDS OF STUDENTS THAT'S THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS. THAT'S THE PHYSICAL ADDRESSES THAT'S EVERYTHING. THAT'S NOT TO MENTION THE FAMILY INFORMATION THAT'S IN THERE AS WELL SO YOU CAN DOUBLE THAT BECAUSE EVERYBODY HAS AT LEAST ONE GUARDIAN. AND IF THEY GET INTO OUR ARCHIVES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT WE CAN DOUBLE THAT AGAIN. SO WE HAVE A VIGILANT JOB AND WE'RE GLAD THAT TEXAS HAS PUT SENATE 820 OUT THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYBODY IS ON COMPLIANCE SO LET'S SLOW THIS DOWN. THE NEXT THING THEY DID WAS HOSPITAL 38 34 WHICH REQUIRED CYBERSECURITY TRAINING FOR ALL STATE AND LOCAL EMPLOYEES. AGAIN WE'RE AHEAD OF THE CURVE ON THAT AS I PRESENTED LAST TIME WE'VE GOT A LEVEL 1 CYBERSECURITY TRAINING THAT WE DO TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT'S IN THE DISTRICT AND THEN LEVEL TWO IS FOR CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS THAT DEAL WITH MORE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION OR BANKING INFORMATION. WE STARTED THIS PRACTICE WAY BEFORE THIS CAME OUT INTO LAW. IN FACT THIS YEAR WE'VE GROWN ON IT AND OUR SYSTEM PRINCIPALS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. WE'VE MADE THEM CYBERSECURITY LIAISON SO EVERY MONTH THEY GET A PRESENTATION FROM ME THAT'S THREE TO FIVE SLIDES THAT THEY CAN DO AT A FACULTY MEETING AND WE JUST KEEP IT JUST KEEP IT ON THE FOREFRONT FOR US. THE NEXT THING THAT WE HAVE IS OUR HOUSE BILL 43 90 WHICH JUST DOES DATA BREACH NOTIFICATION INFORMATION SO IF OVER 250 STATE OF TEXAS CONSTITUENTS ARE AFFECTED BY A DATA BREACH WE HAVE TO REPORT IT TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE. AND THAT INCLUDES IF ONE OF OUR VENDORS FOR EXAMPLE SOFTWARE LIKE OUR STATION OR OUR READY OR BLACKBOARD HAS A DATA BREACH ON THEIR END AND IT HAS OUR STUDENTS INFORMATION IN IT. WE'RE THE ONES THAT ARE THE VICTIMS. SO WE HAVE TO REPORT THAT. SO THAT'S WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR US TO HAVE DISTRICT SOFTWARE THAT IS APPROVED AND NOT JUST TEACHERS BEING ABLE TO INSTALL THINGS I KNOW GETS A LITTLE FRUSTRATING WHEN TEACHERS REALLY WANT TO INSTALL THINGS BUT THERE'S A REASON BEHIND IT THAT WE DON'T LET HIM DO IT. AND THEN WE'VE GOT OUR CRISIS CYBER INCIDENTS RESPONSE TEAM THAT WE PUT TOGETHER. SO WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS THAT WE ARE A VICTIM OF THAT WE WILL ASSEMBLE THIS TEAM AND THIS TEAM WILL COME TOGETHER AND WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ALL OF OUR DUCKS IN A ROW AND WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE GONNA BE DOING. WE'VE BECOME PRETTY GOOD FRIENDS WITH OFFICER ALLEN AT FBI AND HE AND I TALK ON A REGULAR BASIS ABOUT SOME THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON IN THE STATE OF CYBER SECURITY. SO THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION. YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. DR. MAYFIELD I JUST HAD A QUESTION. SINCE WE KNOW THAT'S FROM THE STAFF PERSPECTIVE. IS THERE ANY POTENTIAL THREAT TO THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE ACCESS TO OUR. YOU KNOW THOSE SYSTEMS AND DO THEY GET TRAINED ON ANY. YES MA'AM. I WORKED WITH MISS ALLEN LAST YEAR WITH THE EQ SQUAD AND WE DID AN ENTIRE CYBERSECURITY TRAINING WITH OUR JUNIORS AND I BELIEVE WE'RE GOING DOWN TO [INAUDIBLE] I BELIEVE WE'RE GOING DOWN A FRESHMAN THIS YEAR SINCE WE HAND THEM THOSE BUT THEY ALSO GET A NUMBER OF STEPS THAT THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH BEFORE THEY'RE ISSUED A LAPTOP TOO. SO THEY'LL HAVE TO SIGN AN AUP AND GET A PARENT'S SIGNATURE AS WELL. I KNOW OUR RISKS ARE NOT AS MUCH AS. STAFF. IS THERE A NEED FOR US TO HAVE ANY TRAINING. YES MA'AM YOU COULD DO WITH SOME TRAINING EVERYBODY CAN DO WITH TRAINING. I MEAN RIGHT NOW THIS IS A VERY TUMULTUOUS TIME WITH WITH THE INTERNET AND EVERYBODY'S TRYING TO DO. SO THE TERM FOR THAT IS CALLED WELL PHISHING IS THE BIGGEST FISH AND WHAT THEY TRY TO DO IS THEY PICK THE BIG FISH AND THEY SEND OUT MULTIPLE EMAILS I BELIEVE [INAUDIBLE] THAT WE WORKED WITH ON THAT EVERYBODY COULD USE TRAINING. SO I'D BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO A WORKSHOP WITH YOU IF I COULD WORK WITH DR. MACFARLANE ON THAT. OKAY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS. DR.MACFARLANE YES MADAM PRESIDENT BOARD MEMBERS. WE KNOW THAT THE PLAN TOGETHER IS ONE THING BUT ACTUALLY EXECUTING A PLAN IS SOMETHING MUCH MUCH MUCH DIFFERENT. AND SO I JUST WANT TO COMMEND MR. ALLEN AS WELL AS MISS ADRIANNE AND FISHER AND OTHERS WHO HAVE REALLY BEEN BEEN INTENTIONAL ABOUT ABOUT EXECUTING THE PLAN. YOU KNOW WE HAVE SEVERAL OTHER SECURITY MECHANISM THAT WE CHOSE NOT TO SHARE PUBLICLY BUT BOY IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT SOFTWARE AND OTHER THINGS THAT WE'RE USING I THINK WE DEFINITELY
[00:35:03]
WOULD BE WILLING TO SHARE THAT. BUT AGAIN THANK YOU TO YOU ALL THE TEAM THAT'S PROVIDED THE TRAINING. THANK YOU TO THE EMPLOYEES PERSONNEL WHO ACTUALLY IMPLEMENT THE TRAINING AND WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT AS WE GET. DEEPER INTO THE HOLIDAY SEASON WE CAN EXPECT EXPECT THIS TO CONTINUE. AND SO WE ARE BEING PREPARED AND REALLY WANNA MAKE SURE THAT WE WILL PREPARE IT. IF I COULD SAY ONE MORE THING IT'S ALSO DR. KOHLER'S OFFICE. WE WORKED WITH HER VERY EXTENSIVELY BECAUSE THEY DEAL WITH PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION ALSO SO I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE DR. KOHLER OUT. EITHER SHE WE WORKED WE WORKED HAND-IN-HAND WITH MISS ADRIANNE DR. COLE OR MYSELF. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. ABSOLUTELY. OK. WE'LL MOVE NOW TO OUR NEXT ITEM. BUILDING THE FUTURE PHASE TO UPDATE SIXTH GRADE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL TRANSITION AND OPENING A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL. DR. MACFARLANE MADAM PRESIDENT BOARD MEMBERS AS YOU KNOW THIS TIME LAST YEAR WE WERE ACTUALLY STARTING PHASE ONE OF OUR BUILDING THE FUTURE A PLAN THAT DEALT WITH ACTUALLY TRANSITIONING OUR K FOR CAMPUSES TO PRE-K FIVE SOME CASES K6. NOW WITH THE NEXT PHASE DR. COLE WILL SPEAK WITH YOU ABOUT THE TRANSITION THAT WE KNOW WILL OCCUR OVER THE NEXT COUPLE MONTHS DR.COLE. THANK YOU DR. MCFARLAND MISS DAVIS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. THIS PRESENTATION ALIGNS WITH BOTH GOALS 1 AND GOAL FOUR OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN. AND AS DR. MACFARLANE MENTIONED WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING DILIGENTLY TO ENSURE THAT YEAR TWO OF OUR BUILDING THE FUTURE RESTRUCTURING REZONING PLAN IS A SUCCESS. AND WE ARE VERY AWARE THAT OUR INTENTIONAL PLANNING LAST YEAR LED TO GREAT SUCCESS IN THE FIRST YEAR AND WE INTEND FOR THE SECOND YEAR TO BE JUST AS SUCCESSFUL. SO JUST AS A REMINDER THIS THIS TWO YEAR PLAN INVOLVED THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR. WE HAVE 11 PRE-K THROUGH FIVE CAMPUSES. WE STILL HAVE SIXTH GRADERS AT FOUR CAMPUSES IN THE DISTRICT. THEY WERE FORMER INTERMEDIATE CAMPUSES AND THOSE CAMPUSES BECAUSE THEY SERVE SIXTH GRADE DON'T HAVE PRE-K STUDENTS AND OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL IS CURRENTLY SEVENTH AND EIGHTH AND THEN OUR NINTH AND HIGH SCHOOLS REMAIN THE SAME. SO AS WE MOVE INTO NEXT SCHOOL YEAR OF THE YEAR TO PHASE WE'LL HAVE ALL OF OUR 15 ELEMENTARY SERVING PRE-K THROUGH FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OUR SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS WILL MOVE UP TO MIDDLE SCHOOL AND WILL OPEN THE FOURTH MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO WE'LL HAVE FOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES AND THEN OUR TWO NINTH GRADE CENTERS AND OUR TWO HIGH SCHOOLS THAT SERVE 10TH THROUGH 12TH GRADE STUDENTS. SO SOME OF THE MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND THINGS THAT WE ARE WORKING ON AS A TEAM AND IT IS A COMBINED EFFORT IT IT TOUCHES EVERYBODY REALLY AT THIS BUILDING TO GET THIS TO GET THIS DONE. BUT STARTING WITH THAT YOU'LL SEE IT AS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM TONIGHT NAMING THE CAMPUS WE HOPE TO DO THAT IN DECEMBER WE THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE COMMUNITY AND FOR OUR STAFF MEMBERS AND OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE A NAME FOR THE CAMPUS THAT THEY WILL BE ATTENDING. WE ALSO ARE HOPING TO BRING FORWARD A RECOMMENDATION FOR NAMING A PRINCIPAL FOR THAT CAMPUS. AGAIN WE THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO BUILDING THE CAMARADERIE AND THE SPIRIT AROUND OPENING THE CAMPUS. WE'RE LOOKING AT COURSE OFFERINGS FOR SIXTH GRADE.
CURRENTLY OUR SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS ARE NOT SELECTING COURSES THEY KNOW THAT WE NEED FOR THEM TO DO THAT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT WHAT WHAT KIND OF ELECTIVE CHOICES WILL THEY HAVE WHEN THEY OPERATE ON A TRADITIONAL BELL SCHEDULE LIKE OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT. WE'RE ALSO WORKING AT STUDENT PROJECTIONS WE'RE LOOKING AT NOT ONLY DO THE STUDENTS WE HAVE AND HOW THEY ROLL UP BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT BASED ON THEIR NEW ATTENDANCE BOUNDARIES. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT. THAT IS REALLY WHAT STARTS STAFF ASSIGNMENTS. WE CAN'T PROJECT STAFF ACCURATELY UNLESS WE HAVE REALLY GOOD STUDENT PROJECTIONS AND WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE SIX GREAT TEACHERS WHO WILL BE MOVING TO MIDDLE SCHOOL. WE ALSO KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE SOME SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE TEACHERS WHO NEED TO MOVE TO OPEN THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE LOOK AT THOSE PROJECTIONS CAREFULLY AND THEN WORK TO MAKE THOSE STAFF ASSIGNMENTS. AND OUR GOAL AS IT WAS IN YEAR ONE IS TO COMMUNICATE STAFF ASSIGNMENTS BY THE END OF JANUARY. WE WANT PEOPLE HAVE PLENTY OF TIME. WE WANT THEM TO HAVE HAVE TIME TO MEET THEIR CO-WORKERS AND THEIR PRINCIPAL ON ALL OF THOSE THINGS. SO THAT WAS OUR TIMELINE LAST YEAR AND WE'RE WORKING FOR THAT SAME TIMELINE THIS YEAR. AND THEN WE NEED TO BE SURE THAT WE COMMUNICATE TO FAMILIES WE DON'T WANT TO JUST ASSUME THAT PEOPLE REMEMBER THAT IT'S A TWO YEAR PLAN THAT THEY REMEMBER THAT WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE NEW ZONES WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE COMMUNICATE TO ALL OF THE STUDENTS MOVING TO THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL. WE ALSO HAVE TO
[00:40:03]
REMEMBER THAT WE HAVE PRE-K STUDENTS WHO ARE BEING SERVED NOT AT THEIR HOME CAMPUS THIS YEAR BECAUSE THEY WILL BE GOING BACK NOW TO THE THEIR CURRENT HOME CAMPUS SO WE'RE INCLUDING THOSE FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNICATION TIMELINE. AND THEN LAST BUT NOT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST OUR CURRENT C.T. CENTER WAS BUILT TO BE A MIDDLE SCHOOL BUT WE DID HAVE TO MAKE SOME MINOR RENOVATIONS TO MAKE IT A CTE CENTER. FOR EXAMPLE THE ART AREA WAS TURNED INTO THE COSMETOLOGY AREA SO IT'S GOT SHAMPOO BOWLS AND THOSE KINDS OF THINGS. SO THERE ARE SOME RENOVATIONS THAT WE NEED TO UNDERTAKE AS SOON AS SCHOOL IS OUT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SCHOOL IS READY TO FUNCTION AS A MIDDLE SCHOOL THAT WAS BUILT TO BE. SOME VEIL BURNING QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE ANY ABOUT OUR. ACTIVITIES AND PLANS SO FAR. ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS. AND JUST HAVE A COMMENT. AND IT WASN'T ON HERE BUT FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THE CITY IS MOVING TO A NEW LOCATION JUST IN CASE PEOPLE ARE QUESTIONING AND SAY WELL WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. YES WE CAN. THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR THAT MR. ROBINSON. YES IN ADDITION TO OPENING A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL CERTAINLY IN OUR BEAUTIFUL NEW CITY CENTER WILL OPEN AND OUR CITY PROGRAMMING AND OUR TEACHERS AT CITY WILL BE MOVING TO THAT FACILITY. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS MR. RAY AND I THINK THE ANSWER TO THIS BUT JUST FOR CLARIFICATION THE NEW ONE IS GONNA BE THE BILL OR JOHNSON CITY CENTER AND THEN WE'RE GONNA NAME THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL. YOU. HAVE A QUESTION AND I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS PERHAPS A QUESTION FOR MR. REES BUT ARE THERE RENOVATIONS THAT ARE ANTICIPATED AT LIKE H.R. STEVENS OR M.S. TO RECEIVE MORE STUDENTS THAN THEY'VE HAD IN A GOOD LONG WHILE. IS THERE ANYTHING NEEDED THERE. I DON'T BELIEVE SO MR. REEVES BECAUSE THE CLASSROOMS THAT ARE STILL SERVING AS CLASSROOMS WE MAY HAVE CLASSROOMS NOW THAT MAYBE ARE USED AS A PSC ROOM OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT THAT WE'LL NEED TO SERVE STUDENTS. BUT THE FACILITY ITSELF IS READY TO GO. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS. THANK YOU DR. KOEHLER. THANK YOU. OK. OUR NEXT ITEM 2019 2020 PROGRAM EVALUATION CYCLE. DR. MCFARLAND MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS AS YOU RECALL OUR CURRICULUM AUDIT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO REFERRED TO THE NEED TO HAVE A PROGRAM EVALUATION CYCLE. AND SO WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON REALLY DEVELOPING THE CYCLE THIS YEAR AND SO MS ZERO TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT WHAT OUR PROGRAM EVALUATION WASTE AND CYCLE CURRENTLY LOOKS LIKE AND ALSO GIVE YOU INFORMATION ABOUT THE FUTURE GENERALIST PROGRAM EVALUATION. THANK YOU MADAM PRESIDENT RESPECTIVE BOARD MEMBERS AND SUPERINTENDENT DR. MCFARLAND. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME THIS EVENING TO VISIT WITH YOU ABOUT THE PROGRAM EVALUATION CYCLE AND OUR CURRENT STATUS. AS WE KNOW WE'VE HAD A LOT OF REASON TO CELEBRATE IN CROWLEY ISD AND I'M GOING TO SPIN OFF YOUR QUOTE EARLIER MISS DAVIS WHERE YOU SPOKE ABOUT GROWTH VERSUS PROFICIENCY. AND SO I THOUGHT THAT RESONATED INTO THE DISCUSSION THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TODAY. AND SO WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT GROWTH WE'RE LOOKING THAT WE ALSO CAN'T BECOME STAGNANT. SO WE'VE BEEN SPENDING QUITE A BIT OF TIME TALKING ABOUT THE WHY WHY ARE WE DOING PROGRAM EVALUATIONS AND SO WE WANT TO LOOK AT IT THROUGH THE LENS OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOLS. AND SO WE UNDERSTAND THAT IF WE'RE GOING TO IMPROVE WE'RE CONSTANTLY LOOKING AT ALL AREAS OF NEED AND ALSO GETTING FEEDBACK FROM THE BOARD AND OUR SUPERINTENDENT OF THE AREAS THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON. SO IN LOOKING AT THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN WE'RE FOLLOWING THE PLAN TO STUDY ACT MODEL. AND SO SOME OF US HAVE BEEN FAMILIAR IN EDUCATION UNDERSTANDING THE PLAN TO STUDY ACT MODEL. WHEN YOU WHEN WE'RE EVALUATING PROGRAMS THE PROCESS FALLS UNDERNEATH THE STUDY COMPONENT. AND SO I JUST WANTED TO START WITH A WHY. SO THAT WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS REALLY AN EVALUATION OF PROGRAMS AND IT'LL BE IT'LL RUN WITHIN A CYCLE OF FOUR YEARS WHICH I'LL TAKE US TO IN THE NEXT SLIDE. ALL RIGHT. SO WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THE PRIORITY PRIORITIZATION PROCESS FOR THE DISTRICT WE'VE DECIDED THIS YEAR BASED ON CONVERSATIONS WITH DR. MCFARLAND AND THAT THAT HE HAS HAD ALSO WITH THE BOARD IS THAT WE'RE GOING TO FOCUS ON THE BILINGUAL PROGRAM IN THE FALL AND IN THE SPRING WE'LL EVALUATE THE COUNSELING PROGRAM THEN CTE AND ADVANCED ACADEMICS IN THE NEXT SLIDE I'LL SHOW YOU A THREE MONTH CYCLE THAT WE'RE FOLLOWING. BUT THE NOTION IS THAT WE WILL FOLLOW AN ANALYSIS FOR EVERY FOUR YEARS THE PROTOCOL OF COURSE IS THAT WE GET THE FEEDBACK FROM THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT AND WILL DETERMINE PRIORITIES ON THE SELECTED TOPICS AND THOSE TOPICS ARE ALIGNED TO THE GOALS THAT ARE ESTABLISHED. THE PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE[00:45:05]
STUDY SESSIONS SO THAT THE BOARD MEMBERS HAVE THE ACCURATE ACCURATE INFORMATION IN OUR CURRENT ON IMPORTANT TOPICS AND MORE IMPORTANTLY GIVING US FEEDBACK AS A DISTRICT. SO ONCE AGAIN HERE'S A THREE MONTH STUDY CYCLE THAT WE WILL FOLLOW THE BILINGUAL PROGRAM. WE HAD OUR OUR MEETING TODAY WHICH INCLUDED PRINCIPALS TEACHERS DISTRICT PERSONNEL. WE ALSO ARE LOOKING TO INCLUDE PARENTS AND THE DISCUSSION OF STUDENTS WILL RUN THEIR CYCLE FROM NOVEMBER TO JANUARY WE'LL HAVE A FEBRUARY BOARD'S STUDY SESSION AND I WILL SAY THAT THE STUDY SESSIONS ARE OPEN TO YOUR FEEDBACK AS A BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT. WE DETERMINED THAT WE WOULD HAVE A SESSION RIGHT AFTER THEN THE COUNSELING PROGRAM DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY CTE PROGRAM WE WOULD EVALUATE FROM JANUARY TO MARCH AND ADVANCED ACADEMICS FROM FEBRUARY TO APRIL. AND THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION. AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS I CAN ADDRESS THEM NOW. COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS. I HAVE A QUESTION IF IF YOU COULD GO BACK TO ONE PREVIOUS SLIDE SO I COULD SEE POTENTIAL THAT PROGRAM EVALUATION OF CTE FOR EXAMPLE OR ADVANCED ACADEMICS COULD HAVE. DEPENDING ON WHAT THAT EVALUATION REVEALS COULD HAVE AN EFFECT ON. STUDENT COURSE SELECTION STUDENT COURSE OFFERINGS BUDGETING. AND SO IT FEELS LIKE PERHAPS APRIL BOARD STUDY SESSION OR MAY BOARD STUDY SESSION MIGHT BE LATE FOR THOSE. AS OPPOSED TO COUNSELING WHICH FEELS LIKE WOULD HAVE A SMALLER EFFECT ON STUDENT COURSE OFFERINGS OR EVEN BUDGETING. I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT THOSE BUT JUST JUST A THOUGHT ALONG THOSE LINES. THAT'S GOOD FEEDBACK AND I'LL BRING IT TO THE COMMITTEE AND DR. MACFARLANE AND THEN WE CAN REVISIT THE THE CALENDAR OF EVENTS. THANK YOU. OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS. PUTTING IT ON A ROTATING SCHEDULE LIKE THAT SO THAT WE CAN PROPERLY EVALUATE ALL OF THE PROGRAMS AND HEAD OFF ANY ANY PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE DISCOVERED. YES. THANK YOU DR. MCFARLAND. THANK YOU. WE'LL[9.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item (s)]
MOVE NOW TO OUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS. APPROVAL OF VISION 2025 STRATEGIC DESIGN FRAMEWORK. DR. MACFARLANE. MADAM PRESIDENT WE'VE DEFINITELY DECIDED TO TO BRING THIS NEXT ITEM FORWARD. MR. CARSON WILL ADDRESS THE VISION 2025 STRATEGIC DESIGN FRAMEWORK EXCURSION. THANK YOU DR. MACFARLANE MISS DAVIS AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. AS YOU ALL KNOW THE STRATEGIC PLAN OF CROWLEY ISD DRIVES EVERYTHING WE DO FROM THE BOARD TO THE DISTRICT LEVEL TO THE CAMPUS LEVEL AND FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS WE'VE HAD A VERY HELPFUL VALUABLE STRATEGIC PLAN BUT THAT EXPIRES AT THE END OF NEXT MONTH AND SO EARLY THIS YEAR IN FACT BACK IN JANUARY WE STARTED WORKING ON PLANNING FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS WE CALLED IT VISION 2025 AND THE BOARD CHOSE TO PARTNER WITH ENGAGED TO LEARN TO HELP US WITH THE FACILITATION OF THAT. AND I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT THAT WAS A VERY WORTHWHILE INVESTMENTS. THEY HAVE BEEN INVALUABLE AS THEY LED US THROUGH THIS PROCESS WITH A DIVERSE GROUP OF STAKEHOLDERS PROVIDING INPUT EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. DOZENS AND DOZENS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN IN MEETINGS DISCUSSING OUR STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. WE RECEIVED INPUT THROUGH SURVEYS AND TOWN HALLS AND SUMMITS AND SO A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THIS AND TONIGHT A SMALL NUMBER OF THEM ARE IN THE ROOM WITH US. SO IF YOU WERE SOMEONE THAT ATTENDED A SUMMIT A FORUM DESIGN TEAM HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH STRATEGIC PLANNING WOULD YOU PLEASE STAND THIS IS A SMALL NUMBER OF THEM. LET'S HEAR FROM THEM. THANK YOU SO MUCH. A LOT OF TIME WENT INTO THIS AND TONIGHT YOU'RE GOING TO GET AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT WE'RE CALLING THE STRATEGIC DESIGN FRAMEWORK AND THIS IS A POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM FOR YOU TO APPROVE TONIGHT. BUT WE WANT YOU TO HEAR FROM THE GROUP THAT MADE THIS HAPPEN. SO TONIGHT WE'VE INVITED SOME OF THEM TO TELL YOU ABOUT OUR STRATEGIC DESIGN FRAMEWORK AND WE'RE GOING TO START WITH MISS CRYSTAL CROSS FROM ENGAGE TO LEARN WHO HAS BEEN SUCH A GREAT RESOURCE AN ADVOCATE FOR CROWLEY ISD. SO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE AND EXCITED TO SHOW YOU THE WORK HERE. GOOD EVENING. FOR PRESIDENT DAVIS AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DR. MACFARLANE. SO MY NAME IS CRYSTAL CROSS AND MOST OF THE ROOM KNOWS ME BUT I HAVE BEEN THE LEAD FACILITATOR FOR THIS PROCESS AND WAS WITH THEM THROUGH EVERY STEP EVERY DAY. AND SO OF COURSE ENGAGED TO LEARN WE'RE HERE TO SUPPORT YOU WITH YOUR HIGH PERFORMANCE CULTURE. SO AGAIN WE'RE JUST TO ALLY WITH YOU IN THIS WORK.SO THIS IS THE SEQUENCE IN TIMELINE. YOU'VE SEEN THIS PROBABLY A COUPLE OF TIMES WE LOOKED AT IT AT A BOARD WORKSHOP AND WHEN WE FIRST CAME OUT TO SPEAK TO YOU
[00:50:03]
ALL. SO WE HAVE THE COMMUNITY INPUT PORT PORTION WHICH LOOKED A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS THROUGH THE FOCUS GROUP SURVEYS AND SUMMITS. THEN THE DESIGN AND CREATE TEAMS TOOK THE INFORMATION IN THE DATA AND BEGAN TO CREATE THE PLAN. AND SO YOU'LL GET TO HEAR FROM SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF THE DESIGN TEAM AND OF COURSE WE HAVE SEVERAL OTHERS SEATED AND SUPPORTING US. AND THEN THE LEAD TEAMS AND LEAD TEAMS WAS LOOKING AT SOME OF HOW DO WE MAKE THIS A PLAN. HOW DO WE MOVE THIS WORK FORWARD. SO AGAIN ENGAGED TO LEARN OUR MISSION WE'RE ALL ABOUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND SUPPORTING YOU ALL. AND SO I HOPE THAT YOU WILL SEE THAT THROUGH THE WORK THAT WAS DESIGNED SO WITHIN OUR MODEL WE MAKE SURE THESE SIX PIECES ARE THEY ARE SO THE STUDENT FOCUS PIECE THE COMMUNITY BASE AND YOU ALL HAD A LOT OF COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AND INFORMATION THAT IS ALIGNED TO INTEGRATE IT DESIGN THINKING WHICH CAN BE MESSY BUT IT YIELDS VERY GREAT RESULTS. THEN WE HAVE A BACKWARDS DESIGN WE THINK ABOUT WHERE DO WE WANT TO START AND HOW DO WE GET THERE. AND THEN OF COURSE ACTIONABLE. SO WE DON'T JUST WANT TO BE A GROUP THAT MEETS THIS IS ABOUT MOVING FORWARD AND DOING SOMETHING WITH WHAT WE HAVE AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO. SO THE PROCESS ALL BEGINS WITH BELIEFS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT IS IT THAT WE HOLD TRUE. AND SO AT THIS POINT WE'LL HAVE SOMEONE TO COME UP AND SPEAK ABOUT THAT PROCESS WITHIN THE DESIGN WORK. GOOD EVENING. I'M MARCI NELSON AND I AM PROUD CARLI I ESTEE MOM AND I'M ALSO A COLLABORATIVE INSTRUCTION TEACHER AT SUMMER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL AND WE ARE STARTING WITH BELIEFS. BUT FIRST I WANT TO SAY HOW MUCH TIME WE SPENT GOING BACK TO THE DATA FROM THE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. IT DROVE OUR DECISIONS AT EVERY STEP OF THE PROCESS. THE MOST IMPRESSIVE GROUP THAT WE RECEIVED FEEDBACK FROM WAS OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM NORTH CROWLEY AND CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL. WE WERE SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE A THINK ABOUT SIX OF THEM WITH US. THE FIRST DAY THAT WE MET AND THEY WERE AMAZING YOUNG PEOPLE THEY WERE NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK THEIR MIND EVEN IF IT MEANT DISAGREEING WITH A ROOMFUL OF ADULTS. THERE WERE MOMENTS WHEN THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY THE LEADERS IN THE ROOM AND WE WERE THEIR STUDENTS. SO THEY HAD A GOOD VOICE IN THIS PROCESS AND IN THE BELIEF PAGE. SO THINGS THAT WE BELIEVE ARE WE BELIEVE A QUALITY EDUCATION IS A HUMAN RIGHT AND IS AN EQUALIZER FOR ALL STUDENTS. WE BELIEVE DISTRICT TRANSPARENCY AT ALL LEVELS LEADS TO COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND RESPECT. WE BELIEVE ALL STUDENTS DESERVE A VOICE AND CHOICE IN THEIR LEARNING BECAUSE THEY LEARN IN UNIQUE WAYS. WE BELIEVE IN MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS IN THE STUDENT LEARNING COMMUNITY AND WE BELIEVE IN EDUCATING THE WHOLE CHILD BEYOND JUST THE CORE ACADEMICS. AND I REALLY ENJOYED THIS PROCESS BECAUSE IN MY 14 YEARS AS A CROWLEY ISD AND THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR TEACHING. I'VE REALLY ONLY BEEN INVOLVED IN MY CHILDREN'S FEEDER PATTERN. SO THE NEAT THING ABOUT THIS PROCESS IS I GOT TO KNOW PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE DISTRICT WHICH WENT REALLY WELL WITH OUR CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFIED SO THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY SO AND I FORGOT TO MENTION YOU HAVE A BROCHURE WHICH REFERENCES THESE PIECES THAT ARE ALSO BEING PROJECTED. SO IT PUTS THE BALL ON IT AND MAKES IT ALL NICE. SO AGAIN BACKWARDS DESIGN IS SO VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE HAVE TO BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND TO KNOW WHERE WE WANT TO GO. AND SO WITH THAT SAID WE HAVE TO CONSIDER LIKE WHAT ARE OUR HIGHEST HOPES FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND IT GOES BACK TO DREAMING BIG AND WE HAD THAT CONVERSATION WITHIN THE PROCESS OF THIS WORK. SO NOW WE HAVE OUR CALL TO ACTION WHICH IS ON THE FRONT OF YOUR BROCHURE. GOOD EVENING MISS DAVIS. DR. MARK FOLLOWING EVERYONE ON THE BOARD. MY NAME IS LARRY KEYS. I AM A FOURTH GRADE TEACHER HERE AS SUE CROUCH. AND THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR OF TEACHING AND IS GREAT INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT. ALSO. I WAS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS CALL TO ACTION. THIS CALL TO ACTION IS REALLY OUR CHARGE. AS WE WANT TO WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE OUR STUDENTS. ALSO WE WANT TO FURTHER EDUCATION. OUR CHARGE TODAY IS ALL SEA ICE. THESE STUDENTS WILL BE EQUIPPED WITH SOCIAL EMOTIONAL AND ACADEMIC SKILLS TO THRIVE AS CITIZENS IN A DIVERSE EVOLVING GLOBAL SOCIETY. AND WE NEED TO EMPHASIZE THAT TO OUR CHILDREN BECAUSE IT'S MORE THAN SPORTS ACADEMICS. BUT WE WANT IT TO BE GREAT CITIZEN AS WELL AS GOING FORWARD. ALSO. IT WAS A PLEASURE FOR ME TO WORK WITH THESE INDIVIDUALS AS WELL. A LOT OF STUDENT I MEAN A LOT OF.ADMINISTRATORS I DID NOT KNOW BUT THEY WELCOMED ME IN AND I ENJOYED MYSELF WORKING WITH THESE GUYS. THANKS. SO NOTICE THAT WORD THRIVE AS PART OF YOUR CALL TO
[00:55:04]
ACTION SO IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT SURVIVING. THIS IS ABOUT THRIVING IN YOUR STUDENTS DOING WELL. SO AGAIN THIS IS THE CHARGE WE KNOW YOU HAVE A MISSION AND VISION BUT THIS IS THE RALLYING OF THE TROOPS WITH THE CALL TO ACTION. SO NOW WE HAVE THE LEARNER OUTCOMES. GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS CHUCK POWERS. I HAVE BEEN A PARENT WITH CHILDREN IN THE DISTRICT SINCE 2005. I'VE HAD FOUR CHILDREN AND I'VE GOT TWO MORE TO GO THROUGH OUR CROWLEY ISD LEARNER OUTCOMES. ARE THAT ALL STUDENTS WILL APPLY CRITICAL THINKING PROBLEM SOLVING CREATIVITY AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN EVERY COURSE. ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE A VARIETY OF LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND ACTIVITIES. ALL STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN REAL WORLD AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES IN A VARIETY OF CAREER CHOICES IN AREAS OF INTERESTS. ALL STUDENTS WILL SET AND MONITOR PERSONAL LEARNING GOALS AND RECEIVE MENTORSHIP TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS. ALL STUDENTS WILL FEEL LIKE THEY MATTER AND CONTRIBUTE TO A DIVERSE SOCIETY. ALL STUDENTS WILL UTILIZE SELF-MANAGEMENT SKILLS TO EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE THEIR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND THEIR ACADEMIC NEEDS. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO DEMONSTRATE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS.AND ALL STUDENTS WILL BE TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENT WHILE UPHOLDING EXPECTATIONS OF A DIGITALLY RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN. I ENJOYED THIS PROCESS GREATLY AS A PARENT IN THE DISTRICT. SINCE 2005 I HAVE BEEN VERY ACTIVE IN MY ALL OF MY CHILDREN'S LEARNING. THE BEST PART OF THIS PROCESS WAS THAT ALL OF THE INDIVIDUALS FROM ALL OVER THE DISTRICT. WITH ALL DIFFERENT HATS THAT THEY WORE HOW THEY THOUGHT AND HOW WE ALL CAME TOGETHER WITH THAT ONE GOAL IN MIND AND IT'S ALL FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FOR US TO BE IN A ROOM FULL OF DOZENS OF PEOPLE. AND FOR US TO COME TO AN AGREEMENT THAT WAS AMAZING TO ME AND ALL OF THESE PEOPLE THAT HOW TO YOU KNOW A PART IN THIS ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. I MADE NEW FRIENDS SAW SOME PEOPLE THAT I ALREADY KNEW BUT I ENJOYED THIS PROCESS GREATLY. SO WITH THE OUTCOMES IF THESE ARE THE OUTCOMES THEN WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT SKILLS DO STUDENTS NEED NOT ONLY TODAY BUT REMEMBER YOUR CALL TO ACTION TALKED ABOUT THEM THRIVING AND SO WITH THAT SAID WE LOOK AT THE LEARNER PROFILES SKILLS. GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS ROSA SIA. I AM A PROUD TEACHER AT MEADOW CREEK ELEMENTARY THIRD GRADE. I ACTUALLY HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY. MY PARENTS MOVED TO THE MEADOW CREEK AREA ABOUT TWENTY SIX YEARS AGO AND SO I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO GO THROUGH CATHOLIC SCHOOLS BUT MY SISTER AND MY BROTHER BOTH WENT TO MEADOW CREEK. SO IT'S REALLY GREAT TO BE HERE. AS WE GO THROUGH AND WE TALKED ABOUT ALL THE ACTION AND STUDENT OUTCOMES WE DEVELOPED A LEARNER PROFILE TO ALIGN WITH ALL OF OUR GOALS AND THIS DROVE ALL THE OTHER GOALS IN THE NEXT PIECES YOU WILL HEAR. AS WE FOCUS ON A GROWTH MINDSET. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS GROWTH MINDSET WILL DEVELOP SKILLS IN OUR LEARNERS AND AS EDUCATORS WE WILL FOCUS ON DEVOTING THE TIME AND ATTENTION TO THEM DEVELOPING THESE SKILLS. WE BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS SKILLS SHOULD HAVE. I'M SORRY THAT ALL STUDENTS AT EVERY STAGE IF THEY'RE LEARNING IN CROWLEY ISD WILL BE ABLE TO ADAPT TO ADVOCATE. WE BELIEVE THAT THEY NEED TO COLLABORATE COMMUNICATE. THEY WILL HAVE INQUISITIVE SKILLS. THEY WILL PROBLEM SOLVED. THEY WILL BE RESILIENT SELF AWARE HAVE SELF MANAGEMENT SKILLS SERVE OTHERS AND THINK CRITICALLY THROUGHOUT THEIR ENTIRE.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE HERE AT CROWLEY. AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I AM HONORED TO HAVE BEEN ASKED TO BE PART OF THIS GROUP. IT WAS GREAT AND INSPIRING AS AN EDUCATOR TO SEE THAT WE USE THE COLLABORATIVE APPROACH THAT WE SAW TO COME TO LIFE AND THAT WE WERE ABLE TO BUILD SOMETHING TO UNIFY OUR ENTIRE DISTRICT MOVING FORWARD IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. THANK YOU. SO THE NEXT PIECE OF THIS. IS ABOUT THE GOALS AND NOTICE IT SAYS BOLD RESOLUTIONS. SO WE REALLY WANT IT TO STEP OUT OF THERE AND HAVE SOME GOOD CONVERSATIONS AND PICK SOME GREAT GOALS. AND SO HERE ARE THE THREE GOALS. AND NOW WE'RE ON THE INSIDE OF THE BROCHURE THAT YOU HAVE. GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS DR.
[01:00:05]
HEIM. I STARTED WORKING IN THE DISTRICT IN 97 AND THROUGH MY ALL THROUGH MY CHILDREN GRADUATED FROM FROM CROWLEY SCHOOLS. I WAS. ASKED TO TALK ABOUT GOALS AND I REALLY HAVE TO JUMP ON WHAT YOU SAID MISS DAVIS. IF YOUR DREAMS AREN'T THEY ARE IF YOUR DREAMS DON'T SCARE YOU THEY'RE NOT BIG ENOUGH. AND WHEN I LOOK AT THESE THEY SCARE ME. AND THAT'S MAYBE NOT A DREAM THAT'S A GOAL BUT THE GOAL THAT EVERY SINGLE CHILD IN OUR DISTRICT WILL THRIVE. THAT'S A SCARY HUGE GOAL THAT TO ACCOMPLISH BUT THAT IS WHAT WE WANT AND THAT IS WHAT WHAT WILL BE SATISFIED IF WE SEE EVERY EVERY STUDENT THRIVING AND NOT JUST THRIVING TOMORROW OR NEXT SEMESTER BUT THRIVING NOW THRIVING IN THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE AS FAR AS I CAN GO. THAT WAS OUR FIRST AND I BELIEVE PRIMARY GOAL BUT THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN A VACUUM. SO OUR SECOND GOAL WAS THAT WE WOULD HAVE ENGAGED COMMUNITY THAT THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WHICH INCLUDE OUR FAMILIES OUR BUSINESSES OUR CHURCHES CWA IS VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT PARTNERING WITH THOSE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND IN DOING SO WE WILL INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. AND FINALLY OUR THIRD GOAL RESTS ON OUR STAFF. WE NEED STAFF TO BE EMPOWERED. STAFF ARE THE ONES THAT TOUCH THOSE CHILDREN THAT REALLY BRING ALL THAT WORK WE DID IN THAT ROOM RIGHT DOWN TO THE DAY IN AND DAY OUT. SO OUR THIRD GOAL IS TO EMPOWER STAFF AND PROVIDE A QUALITY EDUCATION SO THEY CAN PROVIDE A QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS. WE WERE ASKED TO ALSO SAY WHAT WAS YOU KNOW WHAT WE REALLY ENJOYED ABOUT OR WHAT IMPACTED US ABOUT THIS PROCESS. WHAT STUCK WITH ME WAS AND I DIDN'T EVEN PREPARE TO SAY THIS BUT AS I LISTENED TO IT WAS WE WERE TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THIS ISN'T NECESSARILY A DEMOCRATIC PROCESS THAT YOU ALL HAVE TO BE WILLING TO DEFEND THIS. AND IF YOU'RE NOT WE'RE NOT GOING TO MOVE FORWARD. AND AND THEY STUCK TO THAT AND THERE WERE TIMES WHEN INDIVIDUALS WOULD. I'M KIND OF A CHICKEN SO IT WASN'T USUALLY ME BUT THEY WOULD SAY I CAN'T LIVE WITH THIS. AND THEY'D BE 30 PEOPLE MAYBE IN THE ROOM SAYING WELL WE SPENT THREE HOURS ON THIS AND SO WE'D GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AT TIMES BUT THE END PRODUCT IS SOMETHING I CAN STAND BY AND I'M SUPER PROUD OF. AND I HOPE I HOPE THAT YOU WILL SEE THE GOOD IN IT. THANK YOU. SO WITH THAT SAID ONCE WE HAD THE THREE GOALS THEN I FACILITATED THE TEAM IN DETERMINING WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC RESULTS. SO THESE ARE THE GOALS HOW WILL WE KNOW IF WE'RE GETTING CLOSE TO ACHIEVING THOSE THINGS AND THAT'S WHAT THE SPECIFIC RESULTS ARE. IF YOU DO THOSE YOU'LL ABSOLUTELY HIT THAT GOAL SO FAR.GOAL NUMBER ONE AND THIS IS ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR BROCHURE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. YOU HAVE FIVE SPECIFIC RESULTS FOR THAT PARTICULAR GOAL THEY ALL RELATE TO STUDENTS FOR GOLD NUMBER TWO. THEY HAD TO DEAL WITH THE COMMUNITY PORTION AND THAT IS ON THE BACK OF YOUR BROCHURE AND YOU HAVE SIX SPECIFIC RESULTS BASED ON THAT PARTICULAR GOAL. AND THEN FINALLY YOU HAVE GOAL NUMBER THREE WHICH WAS ABOUT EMPOWERING STAFF AND THERE WERE FOR INTENTIONAL SPECIFIC RESULTS THAT THEY DETERMINED TO HELP MEET THAT GOAL. SO WITH THAT SAID MY FAVORITE PART OF THE PROCESS WAS ACTUALLY THE COMING TO AGREEMENT AND SEEING PEOPLE FIGHT FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVED IN. SO THIS BROCHURE IS BEAUTIFUL. IT IS LOVELY IT CONTAINS ALL OF THE INFORMATION BUT YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE WORK THAT WENT INTO GETTING HERE. AND YOU KNOW YOU HAVE AN AGENDA PLAN FOR EACH DAY AND THERE WERE MANY TIMES THAT WE DIDN'T GET. SO WHAT WE NEEDED TO DO ON THE AGENDA. BECAUSE THAT COMING TO AGREEMENT PORTION AND EVEN WHEN I SAY THAT PEOPLE BEHIND ME ARE PROBABLY MAKING FACES AND STILL TWITCHING FROM THAT. BUT THEY'RE COMING TO AGREEMENT PORTION IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE DESIGN GROUP HAS TO BE ABLE TO STAND ON IT. SO I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE ARE FEARLESS AND THEY SPEAK UP. THEY CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE PROCESS. LET'S GO BACK TO THE DATA. NO THAT'S NOT WHAT THE STUDENT SAID. SO THAT'S THE PART THAT I LOVE SOME LIKE A PROUD MOM WHEN I STAND UP HERE AND I'M PRESENTING THIS AND ALL I DID WAS FACILITATE IT. EVERYONE DESPERATE HERE AND SOME PEOPLE THAT AREN'T HERE. THEY DID THE HEAVY LIFTING AND THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE THIS BEFORE YOU NOW. SO IT'S SUCH A PROUD MOMENT. AND I JUST THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO FACILITATE THAT WORK. AND WITH THAT SAID ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS. COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS. WELL I HAVE A COMMENT. FIRST OF ALL I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU FOR COMING TONIGHT AND THE OTHERS IN THE ROOM AND THE ONES THAT AREN'T HERE THAT CAME TO BE A PART OF THIS PROCESS. YOU SAID YOU USED THE TERM MISSY. I'M GOING TO SAY IT WAS GRUELING.
YES. AT TIMES IT I MEAN IT WAS A LOT OF A LOT OF HARD WORK. BUT EVERYBODY HUNG IN THERE WITH IT AND DID COME TO AGREEMENTS ABOUT EVERYTHING. AND THE REAL EXCITEMENT
[01:05:07]
AND BEAUTY FOR ME IS THAT IT'S GOING TO BECOME A WORKING LIVING DOCUMENT. AND IT'S NOT GONNA BECOME A DOORSTOP. YOU KNOW YOU PRINT THIS ALL UP AND THEN IT'S THE IT'S GOING TO BE A WORKING DOCUMENT. AND FOLLOWING THIS PRESCRIPTION I THINK WE'RE GOING TO SEE A LOT OF GREAT THINGS HAPPEN. SO THANK YOU MISS CROSS FOR GUIDING US THROUGH THE PROCESS. AND AGAIN THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR PARTICIPATING AND FOR YOUR INPUT. THANK YOU. OK. THIS IS A POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS. SHAME ON ME. IS THERE MOTION. I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CROWLEY ISD VISION 2025 STRATEGIC DESIGN FRAMEWORK AS PRESENTED. VERY PROUD. WE HAVE A MOTION BY DR. MAYFIELD IS THERE A SECOND. SECOND MOTION A SECOND BY MR. RAY MOVE TO VOTE PLEASE. THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. THANK YOU AGAIN. APPLAUSE. OK. OUR NEXT ITEM 2020 2021 NEW CTE COURSE OFFERINGS DR. MACFARLANE MADAM PRESIDENT BOARD MEMBERS MR. BALL WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM. MR. BALL. GOOD EVENING MR. DAVIS DR. MACFARLANE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. I AM HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE PROPOSED NEW CTE COURSE OFFERINGS FOR FALL 2020. IN THE FALL 2020 WE WILL HAVE 28 PROGRAMS OF STUDY AND THESE INCLUDE THREE NEW PROGRAMS EMERGENCY SERVICES EMT DISTRIBUTION AND LOGISTICS AND ALSO AERIAL ROBOTICS OR DRONE ENGINEERING FOR ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY UCSD WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE TARRANT COUNTY WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS OFFICE AND INTERLINK WHICH REPRESENTS THE 16 COUNTIES THAT MAKE UP THE DFW AREA. AND WHEN WE LOOK AT A SURVEY OF OVER 12 HUNDRED NORTH TEXAS EMPLOYERS WE FIND THAT THERE ARE TWO AREAS THAT ARE EMERGING AS EVOLVING OCCUPATIONS. THOSE ARE DRONE ARE UNASSISTED AIR VEHICLES AND ANYTHING TO DO WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECURITY OCCUPATIONS SUCH AS CYBERSECURITY. AND I'M PLEASED TO SAY THAT WE OFFER BOTH OF THESE FOR OUR STUDENTS. WE ALSO FIND WHEN WE LOOK AT THE TOP OCCUPATIONS THAT WILL BE IN DEMAND IN DFW FROM 2019 THROUGH 2024 THE AREAS INCLUDE TEACHING THAT'S THE NUMBER ONE NEED THAT WE'LL SEE IN OUR AREA. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING HEALTH SCIENCE CONSTRUCTION TRADES LOGISTIC AVIATION AND AEROSPACE AND FIRST RESPONDERS. AND AGAIN I'M PLEASED TO SAY THAT WE OFFER ALL OF THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO OUR STUDENTS HERE IN CISO DE. SO WE'RE PROPOSING SEVEN NEW COURSES FOR FALL OF 2020 AND THESE COURSES WILL SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDY. EACH OF THOSE 28 PROGRAMS PROGRAMS OF STUDY THAT WE DESCRIBED ARE COMPRISED OF FOUR TO SIX COURSES THAT MAKE A COHERENT SEQUENCE OF SKILLS FOR EACH PROGRAM OF STUDY. AND WE'VE DESIGNED IT SO A STUDENT CAN ENTER A PROGRAM OF STUDY EITHER AT 8TH GRADE AT 9TH GRADE OR AT 10TH GRADE AND STILL GET THE COMPLETE EXPERIENCE OF BEING INVOLVED THROUGHOUT THAT PROGRAM OF STUDY AND MEETING THE DELIVERABLE OUTCOMES. WE ALSO ARE EXPLORING COMING BACK NEXT FALL AND PROPOSING TO OTHER PROGRAMS OF STUDY TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN FALL OF 2021. NURSING SCIENCE AND AVIATION MANAGE MAINTENANCE AND YOU SEE ON THE RIGHT SIDE A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF THAT NEW CTE CENTER. SO WANTED TO INCLUDE THIS. THIS IS A RECENT QUOTE FROM TVA AND IT REALLY GIVES A FOUNDATION TO WHAT WE DO IN CTE. AND IF YOU'LL INDULGE ME FOR JUST A MINUTE AND LET ME READ THAT TO YOU IT SAYS WE WILL EMPOWER DISTRICTS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD IS PREPARED FOR SUCCESS IN COLLEGE A CAREER ARE THE MILITARY BY CONNECTING HIGH SCHOOL TO CAREER AND COLLEGE AND WE TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY IN OUR WORK WITH CTE. OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD THAT LEAVES US KNOWS WHERE THEY'RE GOING FOR THE FUTURE AND THAT WE'VE PREPARED THEM FOR THAT. SO WHEN WE TALK PROGRAMS OF STUDY PROGRAMS OF STUDY ARE GIVEN TO US BY[01:10:04]
THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY. SO HOW THOSE ARE DEVELOPED IS BY A TRI AGENCY APPROACH. TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY AND THE HIGHER ED COORDINATING BOARD. THESE THREE THREE ENTITIES ARE THE TRI AGENCIES COLLABORATE TO LOOK AT WHAT ARE THE OCCUPATIONS IN TEXAS. WHAT IS THE OUTLOOK LONG TERM PROJECTIONS THAT COME TOGETHER LOOKING AT THAT DATA AND THEY PUT PROGRAMS OF STUDY IN PLACE TO ENSURE THAT OUR STUDENTS ACROSS TEXAS ARE PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE.THOSE PROGRAMS OF STUDY HAVE TO MEET THOSE CRITERIA THAT ARE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SCREEN HIGH WAGE HIGH SKILL OCCUPATIONS MEANING THAT THE MEDIAN WAGE IS AT LEAST THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS POTENTIAL FOR INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS OR POST-SECONDARY DEGREES AND TRANSFERABLE SKILLS. SO WHEN WE SAY TRANSFERABLE SKILLS AND I WAS SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT WORD THRIVE IT WAS VERY EXCITING BECAUSE WE WANT TO ENSURE WE'RE GIVING OUR STUDENTS THE ABILITY TO THRIVE ONCE THEY LEAVE CROWLEY ISD A TRANSFERABLE SKILL MEANS THAT THEY HAVE BECOME SKILLED AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL WHERE THEY CAN GO DIRECTLY OUT AND BE EMPLOYED AS A CAREER. AND WE'VE PREPARED THEM WITH SOME TYPE OF SKILL OR CERTIFICATION OR THEY CAN CONTINUE TO COLLEGE AND LAYER ON TOP OF THOSE SKILLS WITH ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS ARE COLLEGE CREDIT HOURS AND THAT'S THE GOAL OF EVERY CTE PROGRAM OF STUDY THAT'S HOW THEY'RE DESIGNED. SO THE NEXT THING YOU HAVE IS YOU HAVE A DESCRIPTION OF A CTE PROGRAM A STUDY THIS ONE HAPPENS TO BE FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT AND SERVICES. AND WHEN OUR OUR PARENTS AND OUR STUDENTS RECEIVE THIS YEAR'S COURSE DESCRIPTION GUIDE THEY WILL HAVE ALL OF THIS INFORMATION IN THERE WHAT IT OUTLINES IS IT OUTLINES A DESCRIPTION OF THAT PARTICULAR PROGRAM OF STUDY IT WILL ALSO LIST THE FOUR TO SIX CLASSES THAT THEY SHOULD TAKE TO COMPLETE THAT COHERENT SEQUENCE LIST ANY HIGH SCHOOL INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS THAT THEY COULD POTENTIALLY GET WHILE THEY'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL AS POST-SECONDARY COLLEGE HOURS IF THERE'S A LICENSURE SUCH AS LIKE 30 DLR THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING AND REGULATION ANYTHING THEY COULD GET TO ADD TO THEIR CREDENTIALS IT WILL LIST POTENTIAL OCCUPATIONS AND THE MEDIAN WAGE THE ANNUAL OPENINGS THAT WE PROJECT IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AS WELL AS THE PROJECTED GROWTH IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA AND THIS IS USED SO THAT OUR PARENTS CAN BE INFORMED AND OUR STUDENTS CAN BE INFORMED ABOUT THEIR FUTURE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT YOU'LL SEE IT ALSO INCLUDES ANY WORK BASED LEARNING POSSIBILITIES THAT STUDENTS HAVE WHILE THEY'RE IN CROWLEY ISD SUCH AS INTERNSHIPS JOB SHADOWING AND EXPANDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS CTSO'S WHICH ARE STUDENTS CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS FFA A HOST THE SO FORTH YOU ALSO HAVE IN YOUR BOARD PACKET THIS EVENING YOU HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CERTIFICATIONS THAT OUR STUDENTS EARNED LAST YEAR AS WELL AS PROPOSED CERTIFICATIONS FOR 2021 AND I USE THE WORD PROPOSED BECAUSE WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING AT OUR CERTIFICATIONS AND TALKING TO OUR INDUSTRY ADVISORY TEAMS TO ENSURE WE ARE MEETING THEIR NEEDS WITH THE CERTIFICATIONS OUR STUDENTS HAVE AND I CAN GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE THAT I WOULD NEED TO UPDATE THIS LIST IT WAS ALREADY IN YOUR BOARD PACKET YESTERDAY WE HAD A MEETING AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT IS THEY WOULD LOVE FOR OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE AN FFA PILOT PART 1 0 7 LICENSE SO THEY CAN FLY DRONES TO DO BUILDING SEARCHES SO WE'RE ALWAYS LEARNING HOW TO ADD ON SKILLS SO THAT'S WHY I SAY PROPOSED AND ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS I CAN ANSWER THIS EVENING FOR YOU. COMMENTS OR QUESTION. I DON'T THINK SO. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THIS IS IT. THIS IS A POSSIBLE ACTION ITEM IS THERE MOTION. A MOVE THAT WE APPROVED THE COURSE OFFERINGS AS PRESENTED. A MOTION BY MR. RAY IS THERE SECOND. SECOND. AND SECOND BY MR. GRASSIA MOVE TO VOTE PLEASE.

[01:25:05]
BASICALLY TAKEOVER THE CAD. MORE TAD BOARD SO THAT THEY CAN DRASTICALLY REDUCE THE FUNDINGS THAT GO IN TO. AND I THINK THAT THEIR INFORMATION. THEY WANT TO EITHER PUT THEIR THERE THE TAXES THAT WE'LL BE LOSING ON TO LET'S SAY FOOD OR ANOTHER WAY OTHER THAN PROPERTY TAXES. WHAT I'M SAYING IS THAT THEY DON'T EXACTLY KNOW WHAT THEY WANT TO DO OTHER THAN THEY WANT TO. TAKE AWAY PROPERTY TAXES BASICALLY FOR IT UNLESS WE KNOW EXACTLY WHO AND WHAT WE'RE VOTING ON. I. STRONGLY. DISCOURAGE US TO.PUT ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE VOTES WHICH ARE A LOT OF VOTES INTO ONE PERSON AND TWO. THE BELIEF THAT WE MIGHT HAVE FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING. SO. YEAH I THINK THAT UNLESS WE KNOW 100 PERCENT OF WHAT WE'RE DOING WE SHOULDN'T BE DOING. WE SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT AS MY OPINION. OK. ARE THERE ANY OTHER THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS.
TO A YES. WELL I JUST. OBVIOUSLY AGREE THAT IF THERE'S ANY AGENDA THAT ANYBODY'S GOT TO TRY TO DO THAT I WOULD BE VEHEMENTLY OPPOSED TO IT. I THINK THERE'S THERE'S A LOT OF A LOT OF FOLKS THAT HAVE THIS KIND OF DESIGNS BUT HAVE NO REAL CONCERTED EFFORT. HOWEVER I DO KNOW I DO KNOW ONE OF THE CANDIDATES ON ON HERE ON THIS LISTS. HE WAS AN APPRAISAL REVIEW BOARD MEMBER. SO YOU KNOW I. ARGUE BEFORE THE APPRAISAL REVIEW BOARD AND SO. MR. GARY LASORDA WAS. WORKED AT YOU KNOW.
ARGUER. I AM. I'M OUT OF IT. I DON'T KNOW THAT IT'S GONE DARK SO EARLY I FEEL LIKE I'M GONNA FALL ASLEEP AT 6:00. ANYWAY THE MR. LASORDA WAS. HEY BARBIE ON THE RV FOR SIX EIGHT YEARS I THINK AND I'VE WORKED WITH HIM AND AND I THINK HE'S PRETTY WELL RESPECTED AMONG BOTH APPRAISERS AT THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT AND ALSO AMONG YOU KNOW TAXPAYERS AND AGENTS LIKE MYSELF. I THINK HE WOULD BRING A GOOD PERSPECTIVE TO THE BOARD AS SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN KIND OF ON THE FRONT LINES AND I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT MAYBE PEOPLE WHO ARE YOU KNOW ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS DON'T DON'T OFTEN YOU KNOW. DON'T OFTEN SEE. THEY'RE NOT USUALLY DOWN THERE IN THE DERBY PROCEDURES AND THINGS LIKE THAT. SO I THINK YOU KNOW FOR FOR MY VOTE I WOULD LIKE TO PUT MY SUPPORT BEHIND MR. LASORDA. I DON'T KNOW ANY OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES I KNOW MR. POTTER. AS HAS BEEN MENTIONED HAS BEEN ON THE BOARD PREVIOUSLY. I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM OR ANY OF THESE OTHERS. I MEAN PRACTICALLY SPEAKING GENERALLY SPEAKING THERE ARE THREE ENTITIES THAT HAVE THE MAJORITY OF THE VOTES FOR THIGHS THE IN THE CITY OF FORT WORTH AND TARRANT COUNTY THOUGH LOOKING AT THIS IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THEY'VE COALESCED BEHIND ANYBODY EITHER SO I'M NOT SURE HOW THE VOTES WILL GET ULTIMATELY BROKEN DOWN. BUT YOU KNOW I WOULD I WOULD CERTAINLY SUPPORT MR. LASORDA. I DON'T THINK HE'S HE'S GOING TO HAVE ANY KIND OF AN EXTREME AGENDA OR ANYTHING BUT WOULD BRING A GOOD PERSPECTIVE TO THE BOARD. BUT THAT'S THAT'S ALL THAT I HAVE TO ADD ANY OF THESE. OK. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS. SO MR. GROSS YOU KNOW WERE ANY NAMES CALLED IN TERMS OF SUPPORTING THAT. THAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. THERE WEREN'T ANY SPECIFIC NAMES THAT I CAN RECALL FROM THESE THAT THE LIST OF NAMES RIGHT HERE BUT WHAT I WILL BUT WHAT I WILL SAY IS IS THAT THROUGH THIS PAGE BASICALLY THEY SAY HEY WHO WANTS TO RUN WE NEED FIVE PEOPLE TO RUN. AND THEY PUT THEIR NAMES IN THERE AND THEN THEY BLASTED OUT THAT THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT WE NEED TO VOTE FOR AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
AND. ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS LIKE I SAID ELIMINATE PROPERTY TAX. AND I DON'T KNOW
[01:30:03]
ABOUT JOB BUT IF THAT HAPPENS WE'RE ALL IN TROUBLE. SO WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE VOTE FOR. IF WE'RE PUTTING THE RIGHT VOTE IN AND WE DO IT FOR THE RIGHT REASON. OK. SO I GUESS MY MR. RAY HAS GIVEN US. A RECOMMENDATION AND I GUESS MY NEXT QUESTION THEN IS HOW ARE WE FEELING ABOUT EITHER CASTING OUR VOTES FOR MR. ASSAD UP OR. NOT VOTING AT ALL. WHAT DO YOU THINK. I THINK I WOULD PREFER TO NOT VOTE AT ALL NOT. NOT KNOWING. ALL THAT WE WOULD NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EACH PERSON.RIGHT. DID YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW. HIS VOTING HISTORY. I MEAN YOU SAID THAT YOU KNOW HIM. BUT VOTING HISTORY ON IT WILL BE ON OTHER BOARDS. I DON'T I DON'T I DON'T KNOW. I MEAN HE SERVED ON THE APPRAISAL REVIEW BOARD FOR A WHILE HE WAS. HE WAS IN BUSINESS. PRIOR TO THAT I DON'T REALLY KNOW. I WOULD ASK. THE ONLY THING I WOULD ASK IS WE DON'T HAVE TO CAST ALL THE VOTES SO I WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO CAST VOTES IN FAVOR OF MR. LASORDA IF THERE'S SOME MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WE HAVE ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE VOTES. NOW I'D ASK TO BE ALLOWED TO CAST SOME PORTION OF THOSE FOR MR. LASORDA AS I KNOW HIM AND I THINK HE'D BE A GOOD MEMBER OF THE BOARD. BUT THAT'S ALL THAT. MY BUT I GUESS IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE UNCOMFORTABLE FOR WHATEVER REASON THEN I MEAN THAT IS IT IS ONE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS IS WE DON'T WE DON'T WE DID WE DID WE GET ANY OTHER. RESUMES OR ANYTHING FROM ANYBODY. MR. EVERYTHING THAT WE RECEIVE. FROM TED IS INCLUDED THERE IN THE EXHIBIT. AND WHEN RIGHT NOW WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO CAST THE VOTES THEY HAVE TO RECEIVE IT BY SUBMITTED BY MAIL BY DECEMBER 15TH. SO NONE OF THAT MEANS POSTMARKED BY DECEMBER 15TH OR RECEIVED. AND WHEN IS OUR NEXT MEETING. NOT. FOR THAT IS DECEMBER 19TH. SO THAT'S OUR THAT'S OUR REGULAR MEETING. WE'RE NOT LYING. OK. BECAUSE OF THE SHORTER MONTH.
YES SIR. OK. SO THIS IS THE LAST MEETING. OK. SO I THINK IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS IT'S AS A BOARD. RIGHT. HOW CAN AND INDEED IT IS IF MR. RAY IS ONLY GOING TO CAST VOTES FOR HIS SHARE OF 125. IS THAT THE WAY THAT WOULD WORK. OR BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE ABOUT 17 18 VOTES. YEAH. MANY VOTES CAST. NO. I MEAN BUT. RIGHT. YES. TWENTY VOTES. OK. SO WE'VE HEARD FROM. MISS. ROBINSON. DO YOU HAVE. FEELINGS ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. EVEN E MAIL REGARDING MR. LASORDA AND FROM THE GENTLEMAN WHO SPOKE TONIGHT I BELIEVE AND WE RECEIVED ONE IN AND. SO. I'M. WE'VE ONLY HAD ONE CANDIDATE BASICALLY REACH OUT TO. WELL THERE'S TWO ON THAT LIST THAT WE HAVE E-MAILS FROM.
SO. I WOULDN'T MIND VOTING FOR THOSE TWO INDIVIDUALS. DANIEL J. BENNETT. YOU'RE NOT RUNNING ANYMORE. YOU'RE NOT RUNNING YES OR NO. MR. MOORE NOT SO. MANY TIMES. OK.
THANK YOU. OK. SO THAT'S BACK TO ONE. SO I GUESS WE'LL JUST. IS THERE A MOTION FOR MR. LASORDA. I WOULD MOVE TO CAST VOTES ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE VOTES FOR GARY. OK. WE HAVE A MOTION IS THERE A SECOND. I'LL SECOND. WE HAVE A SECOND. SO THAT'S ALL 125 VOTES FOR MR. LASORDA. IS THAT CORRECT. THAT'S THE MOTION YOU CAN IT WOULD GIVE THEM ONE TO ONE DAY. THE OTHER PEOPLE. NOW JUST ONE ONE JUST ONE VOTE.
OK. MOVE TO VOTE PLEASE. OK. THE MOTION CARRIES. THANK YOU. WE'LL MOVE ON NOW TO
[01:35:12]
