PLEASE.

ALLEGIANCE] OUR FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS TONIGHT WILL BE OUR BOARD CELEBRATIONS.

[3.0 Board Celebrations]

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING THEY'D LIKE TO SHARE? I DO. MR. GRASSIA. SO I HAD THE PLEASURE OF SPEAKING WITH A COUPLE OF GROUPS OF KIDS OVER AT BEST RACE, MISS DIXON INVITED ME TO SPEAK AT THE ENTREPRENURIALSHIP CLASSES AND WE HAD A NUMBER OF OF PARENTS AND EVEN GRADUATES OF CROWLEY AND NORTH CROWLEY.

AND THESE KIDS WERE SO ENGAGED IN AND LEARNING AND AND ALL OF THE FRUSTRATIONS AND ANGERS THAT I HAVE EVERY SINGLE DAY ABOUT RUNNING A RESTAURANT.

AND THEY NOW KNOW THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO DO THAT.

SO IT WAS REALLY NEAT.

AND I APPRECIATE THAT. MISS DIXON INVITED ME TO ENGAGE IN THESE KIDS.

AND I THINK MAYBE MAYBE ONE OF THEM WILL DO IT.

SO THANKS, MS. DIXON. THANK YOU, MR. GRASSIA. DR.

MAYFIELD. YES.

I'D LIKE TO THINK.

I THINK MS. BETTY LEWIS, I'M NOT SURE IF SHE'S HERE, BUT FOR ORGANIZING THE ALL PRO DAD DRAFT DAY, THAT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS.

IT WAS A LOT OF FUN AND THERE WAS A LOT OF WORK, OBVIOUSLY, THAT WENT INTO IT.

BUT ALL THE DADS SEEMED EXCITED.

THANK YOU, PRINCIPALS ALSO FOR SHOWING UP AND SHOWING OUT WITH YOUR RESPECTIVE DADS WHO ARE REPRESENTING YOUR SCHOOLS.

ALSO, THAT EVENING WAS I HAD TO LEAVE THAT EVENT TO GO TO THE SPECIAL EDUCATION FAMILY HOLIDAY PARTY.

I GOT THERE LATE, BUT IT LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD A LOT OF FUN.

SO THE ORGANIZERS OF THAT EVENT, MS. BATISTE AND HER STAFF, THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB.

I DID GET PICTURES I NEED TO CENTER MR. KIRCHNER OF.

SO A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THE.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I CAN'T REMEMBER THE GROUP THAT WAS THERE, BUT IT IS A GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO WERE VOLUNTEERING THEIR TIME.

THEY WERE SERVING FOOD.

BUT THEN I LEARNED THAT THEY DID A LOT OF THE BACKGROUND WORK, TOO, WITH SETTING UP THE DECORATIONS, THE TABLES, ALL OF THAT TO GET THE EVENT READY.

SO KUDOS TO THEM.

THE VERY NEXT DAY I SAW I WENT TO SIDNEY POYNTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND VOLUNTEERED FOR THEIR CAREER DAY. IT WAS A BLAST, HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH THE STUDENTS AND THE TEACHERS.

SO KUDOS TO THE STAFF, THE PRINCIPAL AND STAFF AT SIDNEY POYNTER.

[00:05:04]

AND THEN AFTER THAT, THE NEXT DAY, I HAD A FUN TIME JUDGING WITH MISS DAVIS AT DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR THEIR INAUGURAL CISD INAUGURAL FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE FAIR.

THERE ARE SOME VERY TALENTED FIFTH GRADERS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THAT, THE SCIENCE FAIR.

SO THEY'RE GETTING READY FOR SIXTH GRADE.

AND I TELL YOU, THEY COULD HAVE WON SOME BIG AWARDS AND THEY DID GET AWARDED.

BUT I MEAN, THIS WAS LIKE THEIR PRACTICE TO GET READY FOR SIXTH GRADE.

SO KUDOS TO THEM FOR A JOB WELL DONE.

AND THEN ONE OTHER ONE.

SORRY. THE VERY NEXT WEEK ON THE 13TH, THERE WAS THE NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL WINTER DANCE SHOWCASE, WHICH WAS BEAUTIFUL.

IF YOU'VE NEVER, EVER SEEN THE SHOWCASE, THE DANCE SHOWCASE, PLEASE DEFINITELY GO TO THE SPRING SHOWCASE. I THINK EACH OF THE SCHOOLS WILL DO A SHOWCASE WITH THEIR DANCE TEAMS. BUT IT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND I'M GLAD I GOT TO ATTEND.

SO THANK YOU ALL OF THE ORGANIZERS ORGANIZERS FOR PUTTING ON ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS. IT'S A LOT OF WORK. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, DR. MAYFIELD.

AND I THINK WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM SOME OF THOSE SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS AND A LITTLE BIT HERE. OKAY.

[4.0 Recognition Item(s)]

WE'RE GONNA MOVE NOW TO OUR RECOGNITION ITEMS, DISTRICT SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS, DR.

MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

MR. KIRCHNER WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

MS. DAVIS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND THAT INAUGURAL SCIENCE FAIR THAT DR.

MAYFIELD SPOKE OF WAS A HUGE SUCCESS.

WE HAD MORE THAN FOUR HUNDRED AND TEN STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT PARTICIPATE.

IT WAS HELD THIS YEAR AT DAVIS ELEMENTARY, BUT IN SCHOOLS ACROSS THE DISTRICT, THERE WERE 17 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES FOR STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN.

AND IT JUST SO HAPPENED.

DAVIS ELEMENTARY WAS THE HOST, BUT DAVIS ELEMENTARY ALSO HAD THE MOST STUDENTS.

IT PLACED IN ALL THOSE 17 CATEGORIES AND WAS NAMED THE OVERALL CAMPUS WINNER.

LET'S BRING IN SOME OF THE SCIENCE FAIR STUDENTS AND OTHERS, A BIG TROPHY.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE WE SHOW OFF FOR THE DAVIS ELEMENTARY OVERALL CAMPUS WINNER.

SO THAT BIG TROPHY THERE THAT MR. [INAUDIBLE] HAS IS FOR THE CAMPUS WINNER.

AND THEN WE HAVE TWO STUDENTS WITH US AND THEY ARE WITH US BECAUSE THEY TIED FOR GRAND CHAMPION FOR ALL OF CROWLEY ISD.

SO, OF THOSE 410 TOTAL BOARDS THAT WERE SUBMITTED FOR THE SCIENCE FAIR, THESE TWO YOUNG GENTLEMEN TIED AS GRAND CHAMPIONS.

AND WE'RE IN FOR A SPECIAL TREAT TONIGHT BECAUSE THEY'RE GOING TO TELL US ABOUT THEIR PROJECTS. THEY BROUGHT THEIR BOARD AND THEY'RE GONNA DO A LITTLE BIT OF PRESENTATIONS AND TELL US WHAT THEY LEARNED IN THE SCIENCE FAIR.

AND SO FIRST, WE WILL START WITH CHANNING BROWN FROM S.

H. CROWLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND HE'S GOING TO TELL US ABOUT HIS PROJECTS.

SO COME ON UP YOUR TRAINING. HELLO, MY NAME IS CHANNING BROWN.

I ATTEND S.H. CROWLEY ELEMENTARY AND I'VE MADE A PROJECT ON WIND TURBINES, ALSO KNOWN AS TURBO TURBINES.

THE PROJECT WAS MADE TO TO FIND EFFICIENT WINDMILLS SO WE CAN SO WE CAN BE ABLE TO USE RENEWABLE ENERGY TO SAVE THE WORLD, BECAUSE CURRENTLY WE ARE USING TOO MANY FOSSIL FUELS AND WE COULD RUN OUT AND NOT BE ABLE TO USE ANYMORE.

AND WE NEED TO SHORTEN THESE FOSSIL FUELS TO POWER OUR CARS, TO COOK FOOD ON THE STOVE AND ETC.

AND THE ITEMS I NEEDED ON THIS WERE.

A FAN, A PAPER, SOME PAPER, ONE LEADER BOTTLE, 20 OUNCE BOTTLE, MARBLES, LARGE PAPERCLIPS, TAPE, GLUE, STRAW, SCISSORS, A PENCIL, RULER AND THREAD.

AND THE EXPERIMENT PROCEDURE FOR THIS PROJECT WAS STEP 1, GATHER ALL OF THE MATERIALS LISTED. STEP 2, CUT FIVE SETS OF PROPELLERS.

STEP THREE, GET STRAWS AND GLUE TO IT AND GLUE TO END AND LET IT DRY.

STEP 4 GET THE LARGE PAPERCLIPS AND BEND IT INTO A T SHAPE.

STEP 5 TAKE THE TWO TOP PIECES OF THE PAPERCLIP TO THE STRAW AND ADD STRAW TO THE BOTTOM TO THE SIDE OF THE CLIP.

STEP 6 AFTER THAT, DOUBLE AFTER THAT, DOUBLE THE STRAW ON THE SIDE OF THE CLIP BY CONNECTING IT TO THE BOTTOM.

AFTER ADD A PAPERCLIP TO THE BOTTOM, STEP SEVEN, ATTACH THE THREAD TO THE PAPERCLIP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SECOND STRAW AND SLOWLY ADD PAPERCLIPS TO THE THREAD TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH WEIGHT THE PROPELLER CAN TURN/LIFT.

STEP EIGHT TEST ALL FIVE SETS OF PROPELLERS BY USING A FAN AND SEE IF THE PROPELLERS CAN LIFT THE PAPERCLIPS AND HOW MANY PAPERCLIPS EACH PROPELLER CAN LIFT.

[00:10:04]

STEP 9 RECORD THE RESULTS FROM EACH SET OF PROPELLERS.

AT THE AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF MY PROJECTS, I HAVE FIVE PICTURES OF THE PROPELLERS.

AND AS YOU CAN SEE ON DAY ON THE DATA, SOME PHOTOS, YOU.

THERE IS ALSO A CHART RIGHT NEXT TO IT THAT HAS THAT WHICH PROPELLERS HOW MANY PAPERCLIPS THEY LIFTED AVERAGE IN WHICH WHICH ONE WAS EACH SET.

IN MY ABSTRACT OF THE ABSTRACT OF THIS PROJECT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DETERMINE WHAT WHAT TYPE OR SHAPES OF PROPELLERS CAN WILL PRODUCE THE MOST EFFICIENT WINDMILL SO WE CAN USE REUSABLE ENERGY TO SAVE THE EARTH.

THIS WILL BE DONE BY USING THE CONCEPT OF AERODYNAMICS TO DETERMINE WHAT SHAPE PROPELLER WILL GENERATE THE MOST POWER.

AND THE REASON WHY IS BECAUSE THE PROJECT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DETERMINE WHAT TYPES OR SHAPES OF PROPELLERS WILL PRODUCE THE MOST EFFICIENT WINDMILLS.

LIKE I SAID EARLIER, SO WE CAN USE REUSABLE ENERGY TO SAVE THE EARTH.

MY CONCLUSION WAS THE RESULTS OF MY HYPOTHESIS FAILED THE TEST.

THE RECTANGLE, ALSO KNOWN AS PROPELLOR ONE COULD ONLY HOLD TWO PAPERCLIPS.

THE FIFTH PROPELLER WAS ABLE TO HOLD THE LARGE AMOUNT OF AMOUNT OF WEIGHT AT ELEVEN PAPERCLIPS. ONE REASON WHY I BELIEVE MY HYPOTHESIS WRONG WAS THE OPPOSITE SIDES WERE FACING THE SAME WAY.

AND THEN IT DIDN'T GET ANY PUSH FROM ONE SIDE, OR DID NOT CATCH DID NOT CATCH THE WIND.

THE REASON WHY THE FIRST SET OF PROPELLERS WERE ABLE TO HOLD SO MUCH WEIGHT IS THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE PROPELLER WERE OPPOSING, AND AS IN IT IS CUT IN WORDS IN THE INSIDE CATCHES WIND IN ITS SPINS WITH A LOT OF FORCE.

SO THIS IS THE. SO THIS IS THE WIND TURBINE.

ME AND MY MOTHER MADE IT SO WE CAN.

SO IF WE. IF YOU WERE TO.

IF YOU WERE TO TAKE ONE OF THESE PROPELLERS.

AND PUT IT INSIDE.

NOBODY SAW THAT. THIS IS A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING.

TEST SUBJECT HAS BEEN RELEASED.

AS YOU. AND IF YOU WERE TO GET A FAN AND YOU WERE PUT ON HIGH, IT WOULD IT WOULD CATCH WIND AND IT COULD END.

IT WOULD BE ABLE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP ON SPINNING AND PULL UP THE STRAW, WHICH WOULD PULL UP THE THREAD AND IT WOULD BE ABLE TO LIFT UP THE PEOPLE, LIVE UP THE THREAD AND KEEP YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO USE ENOUGH WIND POWER TO LIFT THE PAPERCLIPS.

VERY COOL, LET'S HEAR.

AND THE TEACHER THAT GAVE ME THIS KNOWLEDGE AND HELP AND BASICALLY HELPED ME WITH A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT'S GOT ME TO THE FIRST PLACE ON THE SCIENCE FOR TODAY IS MS. [INAUDIBLE]. AND THE WOMAN WHO HELPED ME VERY MUCH AND WHO I WAS BIRTHED FROM AND WHY I LOVE DEARLY VERY MUCH AND WHO HELPED ME A LOT AND HELP ME WITH THIS PROJECT IS MY MOTHER.

GREAT JOB.

SO THAT WAS CHANNING ONE OF THE CO-CHAMPIONS.

YES. MS. DAVIS. MR. KIRCHNER, BEFORE YOU CONTINUE.

I JUST HAVE TO SAY, CHANNING CAME UP BEFORE THE MEETING STARTED AND HE WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW NERVOUS HE WAS.

DID HE LOOK NERVOUS TO Y'ALL? NOT AT ALL. YOU DID A GREAT JOB.

THANK YOU. OUR OTHER CO-CHAMPIONS, [INAUDIBLE] FROM DAVIS ELEMENTARY TO TELL US ABOUT HIS PROJECT.

HELLO, MY NAME IS [INAUDIBLE] AND I AM FROM JUNE DAVIS ELEMENTARY.

ALMOST EVERY STORE STORE I WALK INTO, I SEE THESE TUMBLERS AND ALMOST.

AND IF YOU READ THE LABEL CLOSELY THEY ALL CLAIM THE SAME THING AND THAT THERE ARE DOUBLE WALL, VACUUM SEALED, COPPER LINED, INSULATED CUPS.

[00:15:03]

BUT YET HE IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE CUPS THAT I'VE SEEN.

AND SO I WANTED A TEST OF ITS REALLY WORTH THE PRICE TO DO THOSE I TO TEST BOTH HOT AND COLD LIQUIDS. FOR FIRST WHAT I HAD TO DO FOR THE HOT LIQUIDS IS FIND A TEMPERATURE IS THE MOST PEOPLE DURING HOT BEVERAGES LIKE TEA AND COFFEE AND THE TEMPERATURE RANGE THAT I FOUND WAS 155 DEGREES TO 120 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

AND THEN I BOILED SOME WATER TO ABOUT 170 DEGREES AND THEN PUT IT IN THE FOUR CUPS.

TWELVE OUNCES OF WATER INTO THE FOUR CUPS AND THEN TOOK THE TEMPERATURE UNTIL I GOT IN FIVE MINUTE INCREMENTS, UNTIL I GOT BELOW 120 DEGREES.

AND AND I HAD TO FIND THE AVERAGE TIME THAT HAS BEEN IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE.

AND TO AND THE YETIS SPENT TWO HOURS AND FIFTY SIX MINUTES AND TWO HOURS AHEAD OF I MEAN, IN TWO MINUTES AHEAD OF THE YETI WAS THE MAGELLAN WITH 2 HOURS AND 58 MINUTES IN THE SILVER BUFFALO WAS 2 HOURS AND 38 MINUTES. FOR THE COLD TRIALS, I FIRST HAD TO MAKE A TWO ROUNDS ICECUBE AND I HAD TO MAKE TWO OUNCE ICE CUBES AND THEN PUT TWELVE OUNCES OF WATER INTO THE CUPS AND THEN WITH A PARTNER, I PUT ONE ICE CUBE INTO EACH CUP AND THEN TOOK THE TEMPERATURE IN FIVE MINUTE INCREMENTS UNTIL THOUGH THE ICE CUBE MELTED AND FOUND THE AVERAGE TIME THAT IT TOOK FOR THE ICE CUBE TO MELT.

THE YETI, THE AVERAGE TIME IT TOOK THE YETI FOR THE ICE CUBE TO MELT WAS AN HOUR AND FORTY SEVEN MINUTES IN THE MAGELLAN WAS THE YETI WAS TWO HOURS AND FORTY SEVEN MINUTES.

AND THEN THE MAGELLAN WAS AN HOUR AND FIFTY TWO MINUTES, AND THE SILVER BUFFALO WAS AN HOUR. LOOKING AT THE LOOKING AT THE HOT BEVERAGE, HOT TRIALS, THE MAGELLAN ON THE MAGELLAN BEAT YETI BY ONLY TWO MINUTE, TWO MINUTES IN THE.

AND LOOKING AT THE COLD TRIALS, THE YETI OUTPERFORMED ALL THE OTHER THE OTHER CUPS BY QUITE A BIT.

AND ALSO, THOUGH THE DESIGN OF THE COPIES WAS DIFFERENT FOR THE CUPS BECAUSE A YETI HAD A SLIGHT TAPER AND THEIR MOUTH WAS SMALLER.

AND FOR THE MAGELLAN AND SILVER BUFFALO, THE MOUTHHOLE WAS LARGER AND THE IT HAD IN THE MAGELLAN AND IN THE BUFFALO ALSO HAD A SKINNY BASE AND A WIDE TOP.

AND SO THE MOUTH, THE LARGER MOUTH COULD LET HEAT IN AND LET HEAT OUT AND.

BUT OVERALL. SO OVERALL YETI.

YETI DEFINITELY IS WORTH THE PRICE.

THANK YOU TO MR. IN FOR TEACHING ME ALL THE SCIENCE AND THANK YOU TO MY MOM FOR TEACHING ME HOW TO DO THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD.

LET'S HEAR IT AGAIN FOR CHANNING AND [INAUDIBLE].

AN EVENT OF THIS MAGNITUDE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS AT ALL THE CAMPUSES THAT PARTICIPATED, BUT ALSO OUR [INAUDIBLE] TEAM, SHELLEY HUBBARD, NICK HEATH AND EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.

GREAT JOB. WE CAN'T WAIT FOR YEAR TWO OF THE SCIENCE FAIR.

YES. AND ONCE AGAIN, THOSE PROUD PARENTS.

WOULD YOU PLEASE STAND CHANNING AND [INAUDIBLE], PLEASE STAND.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR STUDENTS.

WE'LL MOVE NOW TO OUR NEXT ITEM.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOLARS, DR.

MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KIRCHNER WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

THESE CONTINUE, MR. DAVIS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

[00:20:02]

MCFARLAND WITH A GOAL, ONE OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS.

SO WE SAW THAT WITH OUR FIFTH GRADERS.

AND NOW WE'RE GOING TO GET TO FOCUS ON SOME OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLERS WHO ARE ACHIEVING IN A BIG WAY WITH ADVANCED PLACEMENT TEST.

AS YOU KNOW, WE OFFER A VARIETY OF ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

AND THIS PAST YEAR, SEVENTY-SIX ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOLAR AWARDS WERE AWARDED TO STUDENTS FROM CROWLEY AND NORTH CROWLEY.

A LOT OF THOSE STUDENTS TOOK THESE TEST LAST YEAR AS SENIORS AND ARE NOW IN COLLEGE DOING AWESOME THINGS. SOME OF THESE STUDENTS ACCOMPLISHED THIS, THOUGH, AS SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS AND THEY'RE NOW HERE WITH US.

AND WE'RE GOING TO INTRODUCE THE SCHOLARS THAT WE HAVE, STARTING WITH OUR A.P.

SCHOLARS WITH HONOR.

SO TO BE AN AP SCHOLAR WITH HONOR, HERE'S WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN.

YOU HAVE TO GET A SCORE OF AT LEAST A 3.25 ON ALL OF YOUR AP EXAMS AND SCORES, A THREE OR HIGHER ON FOUR OR MORE OF YOUR EXAMS. AND SO OUR AP SCHOLARS WITH HONOR THAT COULD BE HERE TONIGHT.

WITH US ARE ELLIOT? NO, I'M SORRY.

I'M SORRY. ALISHA DAVIS, WE'LL GET TO YOU IN A SECOND.

AND THEN, [INAUDIBLE], MY APOLOGIES.

SO NONE OF OUR AP SCHOLARS WE THOUGHT COULD BE HERE THIS EVENING.

ARE THOSE ONE WITH AN ASTERISK BY THEIR NAME OR CLASS OF 2019 GRADUATES.

THOSE OTHERS ARE STILL STUDENTS THAT JUST WEREN'T ABLE TO BE HERE TONIGHT.

BUT THOSE ARE AP SCHOLARS WITH HONOR.

NOW, THE NEXT LEVEL AS OUR AP SCHOLARS WITH DISTINCTION.

AND THAT MEANS THAT THEY SCORED AT LEAST A 3.5 ON ALL THEIR AP EXAMS AND A SCORE OF 3 OR HIGHER ON FIVE OR MORE OF THOSE EXAMS. AND OUR AP SCHOLAR WITH DISTINCTION AS ALISHA DAVIS.

WAY TO GO, ALICIA.

YEAH, YOU COULD SHAKE HANDS OF THEIR TRUSTEES.

CONGRATULATE YOU. ALISA'S A SENIOR, SHE TELLS US SHE'S PLANNING TO ATTEND NORTHWESTERN AND MAJOR IN JOURNALISM.

CONGRATULATIONS, ALISHA.

YOU'LL SEE OTHER CLASS OF 2019 GRADUATES WHO ARE ABLE TO REACH THAT DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF DISTINCTION ON THEIR AP AWARDS.

ALL RIGHT. THE NEXT CATEGORY ARE NATIONAL AP SCHOLARS.

AND THIS MEANS THAT THEY RECEIVED AN AVERAGE SCORE OF FOUR OR HIGHER ON ALL THEIR EXAMS AND ACHIEVE THEM EIGHT OR MORE DIFFERENT AP EXAMS. AND TONIGHT WE HAVE WITH US [INAUDIBLE] FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

WHAT'S IMPRESSIVE ABOUT THIS IS BECAUSE THIS REQUIRES SO MANY EXAMS TO BE TAKEN.

MOST STUDENTS ACHIEVE THIS THEIR SENIOR YEAR.

[INAUDIBLE] ACHIEVED THIS HER JUNIOR YEAR.

AND IT WAS ONE OF OUR STUDENTS.

ALSO, VICTOR TORRES FROM NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND ABRAHAM MONTAS, WHO'S ALREADY GRADUATED. BUT LET'S HEAR FOR DOW FOR ACHIEVING THIS AWARD AS A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL.

NOW, DOW, TELL US, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER GRADUATION, DO YOU KNOW? SHE'S BEEN ACCEPTED TO UT, BUT STILL UNDECIDED.

SO, BEFORE YOU, ALISHA BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOU TO INTRODUCE YOUR MOM TO US.

THANK YOU, MA'AM, FOR ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.

AND DOW WOULD YOU INTRODUCE YOUR.

OK. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO ALL OF THE STUDENTS FOR THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS.

WE'LL MOVE NOW TO THE CISD HEART BEAT TEAM AWARD.

DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KIRCHNER WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

EVERY MONTH EMPLOYEES FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT NOMINATE OTHER EMPLOYEES FOR OUR HEARTBEAT TEAM AWARD, THOSE WHO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY.

THIS ALIGNS WITH GOAL FOUR OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN TO PROVIDE A QUALITY WORKFORCE AND A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT. AND THIS MONTH, WE SAW AN INCREDIBLE ACT OF GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND LIKE NEVER BEFORE. SO WATCH THIS VIDEO AND SEE WHY WE SELECTED THIS MONTH'S HEARTBEAT WINNER.

[00:25:12]

PRESENTATION].

[00:30:38]

ALL RIGHT, COACH [INAUDIBLE] AND COACH JAMAL ADAMS, Y'ALL COME ON UP.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY TO THE BOARD? WELL, I MEAN, I'M I'M HONORED FOR THIS FOR THIS AWARD, BUT AGAIN, NOT.

I MEAN, IT WAS IT WAS THE THE PEOPLE AROUND ME, THE TEAM AROUND ME.

I DIDN'T DO THAT BY MYSELF.

I MEAN, MY HANDS WERE ON HIM.

BUT IF EVERYTHING HADN'T COME TOGETHER AROUND HIM, THEN WE WOULDN'T BE UP HERE.

I DEFINITELY WANT TO THANK YOU, COACH ADAMS, FOR MAKING A POINT.

SO HE'S HE'S BEEN INCREDIBLE FROM THE TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MAKING SURE THAT WE GOT THE RECOGNITION AND, YOU KNOW, KIND OF HAVE GOTTEN THE WORD OUT ABOUT TRAINING AND AEDS AND THEIR VALUE.

I DEFINITELY WANT TO THANK MY STAFF, MR. PORTER, FOR SURE.

WHO IS REALLY KIND OF TAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF BRING TO THE FOREFRONT A STUDENT FACULTY SAFETY. WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF REVAMP STUFF THAT'S GOING ON AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL.

HE'S BEEN SO RECEPTIVE.

AND SO, I MEAN, A TOTAL ROCK STAR ABOUT BRINGING THIS KIND OF TO THE FOREFRONT.

SO I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

I DEFINITELY WANT TO THANK MY COORDINATOR, TOMMY [INAUDIBLE], WHO IS CONSTANTLY LISTENING TO MY BIG IDEAS AND CONSTANT RECOMMENDATIONS ON STUFF TO DO.

HE'S ALWAYS MAKING SURE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT WE DO, ESPECIALLY IN THE ATHLETICS PART OF IT.

IT'S KIND OF DEFINITELY AT THE FOREFRONT AND AT THE TOP OF OUR GAME.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE WOULDN'T BE UP HERE WITHOUT ME OR COACH ATOM'S IF IT WASN'T FOR MARGARET TERRY. WHAT SHE'S DONE SINCE SHE'S BEEN IN THE DISTRICT, SHE'S COMPLETELY REVOLUTIONIZED AND REVAMPED WHAT WE DO AS FAR AS PREPAREDNESS AND TRAINING AND PRACTICING. I MEAN, EVEN JUST A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, I FEEL LIKE THIS MAY HAVE TURNED OUT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY, BUT SHE KEEPS US ACCOUNTABLE.

SHE MAKES SURE THAT WE HAVE WHAT WE NEED, THE RESOURCES.

AND THEN SHE SHE'S OUT THERE AND MAKING US PRACTICE.

WE HAD JUST HAD A PRACTICE AT THE FOOTBALL FIELD WITH COACH ADAMS AND HIS TEAM LITERALLY TWO MONTHS BEFORE THAT.

IT WAS EXACTLY THIS EXACT SAME SCENARIO.

EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED FROM START TO FINISH WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE HAD PRACTICED.

AND MARGARET TERRY IS WHO MADE US DO THAT.

THIS TRAINING WAS INCREDIBLE.

IT'S EVERYTHING THAT SHE DOES AND SHE BRINGS TO OUR DISTRICT, I THINK IS SO IMPORTANT, BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT'S NOT ABOUT TESTING AND IT'S NOT ABOUT ACADEMICS.

PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW THAT THEIR SCHOOL IS SAFE.

AND SHE DOES THAT FOR US.

AND YOU SAW WHAT THE RESULTS ARE FROM THE STUFF THAT SHE TEACHES US.

AND NOW WE'RE HERE AND WE GET TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH OUR FAMILIES.

AND HOW GOOD IS IT TO SEE COACH ADAMS WITH US HERE TONIGHT.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY. I'M JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE THINGS THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE OFFICER [INAUDIBLE] BACK ON FOOTBALL SEASON WHEN THEY CAME AND THE TRAINING THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. HAD THEY BROUGHT IN A DUMMY INTO OUR PRACTICE AND JUST SAY, HEY, IT'S A PLAYER DOWN IN THE LOCKER ROOM AND STUDENT.

AND WE WENT INTO ACTION.

AND OFFICER TERRY AND THE OTHER ADMINISTRATION THERE AND IT WAS EVERYTHING THAT WAS DONE THAT DAY WAS ALREADY PRACTICED BEFORE WE PRACTICE IT BACK IN SEPTEMBER.

AND SO THAT TRAINING AND IN 20 YEARS OF ME COACHING AND WE'VE NEVER DONE ANY TRAINING LIKE THAT, AND THAT IS BENEFICIAL.

I THINK THAT IS SOMETHING AS REVOLUTIONARY IN ATHLETICS, IN THE ATHLETIC WORLD, AND JUST BEING AROUND A GROUP OF PEOPLE IN GENERAL, BECAUSE LIKE I SAID ON A VIDEO, I WAS NOT FEELING BAD THAT DAY. JUST A BAD MOMENT HAPPENED IN LIFE AND EVERYBODY HAD ALREADY TRAINED TO PREPARE. AND I GOT A CHANCE TO WATCH THAT VIDEO FRIDAY.

AND IT WAS AMAZING. WITHIN 20, 30 SECONDS, EVERYBODY.

THEY WERE ALREADY DOING CPR.

WITHIN ANOTHER MINUTE, WITHIN A MINUTE, THE AED MACHINE WAS ALREADY THERE AND IT WOULD ADMINISTER EVERYTHING IF IT WASN'T FOR THAT QUICK ACTION.

AND I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SPEAK LIKE I WAS LIKE IT'S LIKE I TELL YOU, THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MY MIND WAS, MAN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY FACE? AND JUST THE HAVING BEEN IN.

MY COGNITIVE SKILLS WERE STILL THERE.

MY MY MIND WAS STILL THERE.

I WAS ABLE TO STAY UP AND I KNEW EVERYTHING WAS GOING ON BECAUSE OF THE QUICK ACTIONS.

EVERYBODY THAT WAS HAD BEEN TRAINED THROUGH CROWLEY ISD I APPRECIATE AND GOD BLESS

[00:35:04]

EVERYBODY.

[10.0 Executive Session]

OK, WE'RE GOING TO CHANGE OUR AGENDA A LITTLE BIT AND GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION NOW PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE 551.

THANK YOU. OUR FIRST SPEAKER THIS EVENING IS DAVID WALKER.

MR. WALKER? YES, MA'AM.

THANK YOU, MS. DAVIS. DR.

MCFARLAND AND THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS.

I DO APPRECIATE YOU VERY MUCH, ALLOWING ME A FEW MINUTES TO TALK ABOUT A VERY, VERY GOOD FRIEND OF MINE AND AN OUTSTANDING SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR.

AND THAT'S MR. RICHARD [INAUDIBLE].

HE AND I KNOWN EACH OTHER.

I DON'T THINK YOU COULD FIND A PERSON WHO KNOWS ANYBODY ANY LONGER.

I'VE KNOWN HIM FOR NEARLY 60 YEARS.

DR. MCFARLAND CAN RELATE TO THIS.

WE WERE BOTH ATHLETES IN HIGH SCHOOL AND BOTH KNEW EACH OTHER AND COMPETED IN.

AND I COULDN'T TELL THEM WHAT AN OUTSTANDING PERSON THIS PERSON IS GOING TO BE BECAUSE OF HIS COMPETITIVE SPIRIT AND HIS ACTIONS.

SURE ENOUGH, AS TIME GOES ON, WE GO TO COLLEGE TOGETHER AND WE START BONDING EVEN MORE AND BECOME VERY, VERY GOOD FRIENDS.

AND I COULD SEE MR. [INAUDIBLE]'S ABILITY THEN BECAUSE HE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN COLLEGE, GETTING INVOLVED IN ALL THESE DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS AND BEING VERY ORGANIZED AND VERY ENERGETIC.

AND I SAID, YEAH, THIS GUY'S GOT IT.

GOT IT GOING. AND RIGHT AFTER THAT SCHOOL BOARD, HE BECAME A COACH.

I BECAME A COACH. WE COACHED IN THE SAME CITY IN THE CITY OF FORT WORTH.

HE BECAME A COACH AT WESTERN HILLS.

I WAS COACH AT [INAUDIBLE] HIGH SCHOOL.

WE KNEW EACH OTHER VERY, VERY WELL THEN AND WE WEREN'T VERY COOPERATIVE.

AND I COULD SEE HIS TEAMS BEING VERY COMPETITIVE, VERY STRONG, WHICH WHICH CAME DOWN FROM HIS LEADERSHIP. THEN I LOOK UP AND THEY ASKED ME TO BECOME ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN 1979.

AND I LOOK OVER MR. [INAUDIBLE] BECOMES ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT HF STEVENS IN 1979.

SO YOU CAN SEE HOW LONG WE'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER AND WORKED WITH EACH OTHER.

AND HE STARTED OFF AT HF STEVENS IN 1979 AND STAYED THERE FOR LIKE 25 YEARS.

AND I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW WHAT AN OUTSTANDING ADMINISTRATOR, MR. [INAUDIBLE] WAS LEADING HIS STUDENTS, LEADING HIS KIDS.

AND I CAN ALSO TELL YOU TWO KNOW BY LOVE STUDENTS BETTER THAN MR. [INAUDIBLE]. YOU KNOW, YOU CAN JUST TELL WHEN WE EAT LUNCH TOGETHER OR WE VISIT WITH EACH OTHER. HE WAS JUST STUDENT CENTERED AND LOVED HIS KIDS.

SO HE DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB AS A SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR AND BEEN THERE FOR 25 YEARS.

SPEAKS FOR ITSELF AS A SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR.

YOU KNOW, STAYING AT THAT ONE PLACE AND WALKING IN AND DOING HIS CAMPUS HAS ALWAYS EXCELLED VERY WELL.

I'VE BEEN TALKING TO YOU ABOUT HIS HIS EDUCATION, YOU KNOW, WATCHING HIM GROW AND GO AND WHATEVER HE DID AND BE AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND PRINCIPAL.

BUT ALSO WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT A COMMUNITY WORKER AS WELL.

[00:40:03]

HE LIVED IN CROWLEY ISD.

HIS KIDS ATTENDED CROWLEY ISD.

AND I HAD THE PLEASURE OF HAVING HIS KIDS AT CROWLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THEY WERE GREAT KIDS. YOU JUST SEE A REFLECTION OF MR. [INAUDIBLE]. THEY BOTH DID VERY, VERY GOOD.

AND ALSO, NOT ONLY DID HE LIVE IN CAMDEN AND COMMUNITY IN CROWLEY, HE WAS A HE SERVED NEARLY 30 YEARS IN THE AIR FORCE.

AND BACK IN THE EARLY 1990S, WHEN THE IRAQ WAR BLEW UP, HE WAS CALLED INTO SERVICE AND HE SERVED OUR COUNTRY WELL FOR A YEAR IN THE AIR FORCE.

AND ALSO THEN RIGHT AFTER THAT, AFTER HE RETIRED, HE BECAME WORKING FOR TCU, WHICH I'M SURE, MR. YOUNG, WE'LL TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT IN A MINUTE.

ALSO, SUPERVISING STUDENT TEACHERS AND DOING AN OUSTANDING JOB ON THAT AS WELL.

SO I APPRECIATE Y'ALL LET ME TALK ABOUT MR. [INAUDIBLE]. AND I CAN ASSURE YOU, AS THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, Y'ALL WOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE RICHARD [INAUDIBLE]'S NAME ON ANY SCHOOL.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU, MR. WALKER. OUR NEXT SPEAKER, DALE YOUNG.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SPEAK.

I DIDN'T KNOW THE RULES OR WE DIDN'T HAVE THE RIGHT TIME FOR STARTING, BUT I APPRECIATE IT. WHAT I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IS WHAT DICK HAS DONE SINCE HE LEFT CROWLEY.

I WAS DIRECTOR OF STUDENT TEACHING CAREER SERVICES FOR THE COLLEGE OF TCU AND I NEEDED GOOD SUPERVISOR SINCE SINCE HE WAS NOT REALLY WORKING ANYMORE.

HE HAD RETIRED, I ASKED HIM TO BE A PART OF THIS AND IT WAS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS, FOR THOSE COOPERATING TEACHERS THAT WORKED WITH OUR STUDENTS.

AND EVEN NOW, HE'S STILL WORKING THERE.

I'M RETIRED AND HE'S STILL THERE.

BUT THEY EVEN GAVE HIM A CLASS TO TEACH FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT WOULD BE STUDENT TEACHING THE NEXT SEMESTER.

ALWAYS AN OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL AND VERY, VERY PROFESSIONAL.

NOW, WE'LL HAVE TO SAY THAT AND YOU MIGHT KNOW THIS, THAT EVERY SUMMER I GET PICTURES OF WHEN HE MEETS WITH HIS FORMER TEACHERS HERE AT CROWLEY, THEY HAVE LUNCH AND THEY GET TOGETHER. AND NOW THEY'VE EVEN STARTED INVITING THE STUDENTS.

SINCE WE TALKED TOGETHER OUR FIRST YEAR AT WHICH WOULD MIDDLE SCHOOL, THOSE STUDENTS STILL REMEMBER HIM ALSO.

AND WE GET NOTICES AND ABOUT EACH ONE, THE STUDENTS WEEK.

WE TALK ABOUT THOSE STUDENTS AND THEY TALK ABOUT HOW GREAT COACH CALLED HIM COACH BACK THEN [INAUDIBLE] WAS AND I'D JUST ONCE SAY, AS AN EDUCATOR OF OVER FORTY FIVE YEARS IN THE BUSINESS, WHAT AN OUTSTANDING WAY TO THINK SOMEBODY IS TO GET THE NAMING OF A BUILDING. NOW, I KNOW SOMETIMES IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO DO THAT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO HAPPEN IS HE GONNA ROB A BANK.

WELL, NO, HE'S TOO OLD TO DO THAT ANYWAY.

BUT I WOULD THINK THAT THAT'S THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE AN HONOR NOT ONLY TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY, BUT FOR ALL THOSE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS THAT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH HIM DURING THAT TIME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU, MR. YOUNG.

OK. THAT CONCLUDES OUR OPEN FORUM SESSION.

[6.0 Consent Agenda]

WE'LL MOVE NOW ONTO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

ARE THERE ANY ITEMS REQUESTED TO BE REMOVED? IS THERE MOTION? I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY DR.

MAYFIELD IS OUR SECOND, A SECOND BY MS. HALL. MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY.

[7.0 Report Item(s) / Presentation(s)]

WE'LL MOVE NOW TO OUR REPORT ITEMS, PRESENTATIONS, DYSLEXIA, PROGRAMMING UPDATE DR.

MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT.

BOARD MEMBERS WERE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.

WE HAVE MS. DIGGLES HERE WHO WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM AND SHARE WITH YOU THIS EXCITING NEWS THAT WE HAVE ABOUT A PARTNERSHIP WITH TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE.

PRESIDENT DAVIS DISTINGUISHED BOARD MEMBERS, DR.

MCFARLAND, THE CROWLEY ISD DYSLEXIA DEPARTMENT IS EXCITED TO SHARE DETAILS OF OUR NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE RENOWNED TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE HOSPITAL.

SCOTTISH RIGHT IS INTRODUCING A VIRTUAL CO-TEACH MODEL THAT HAS ALREADY PROVEN SUCCESSFUL WITH DYSLEXIC STUDENTS IN A LAB SETTING.

AND NOW CROWLEY ISD HAS THE GREAT HONOUR OF BEING THE FIRST AND ONLY SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT WILL PARTNER WITH THEM TO STUDY THE EFFICACY OF THE MODEL IN A TRADITIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL.

[00:45:01]

JOINING US TONIGHT IS KAREN AVRIT.

SHE'S THE LEAD AUTHOR OF TAKE FLIGHT.

AND DR. SHERYL FRIERSON, THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF THE DYSLEXIA CENTER.

CURRENTLY, OUR DISTRICT HAS THREE HIGH QUALITY RESEARCH BASED CURRICULUM PROGRAMS. TAKE FLIGHT IS DESIGNED TO BE TAUGHT BY A CERTIFIED TEACHER WHO HAS COMPLETED AN ADDITIONAL TWO YEARS TO BECOME A CERTIFIED ACADEMIC LANGUAGE THERAPIST.

[INAUDIBLE] IS EVIDENCE BASED READING INSTRUCTION TAUGHT BY A CERTIFIED TEACHER IN A SMALL GROUP, AND LEXIA IS A GAME LIKE PROGRAM THAT IS ACCESSIBLE VIA I-PAD OR CHROMEBOOK.

THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE TAKE FLIGHT VIRTUAL CO-TEACHER PROGRAM IS TO SHORTEN THE TEACHER TRAINING TIME, THEREBY MAKING EFFECTIVE EVIDENCE BASED DYSLEXIA INTERVENTION ACCESSIBLE TO MORE CHILDREN.

WITH THIS NEW DELIVERY MODEL, THE TAKE FLIGHT CURRICULUM WILL BE TAUGHT BY A CERTIFIED TEACHER WHO WILL BE SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF AN ANIMATED VIRTUAL CO-TEACHER WHOSE ROLE IS TO INTRODUCE SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF THE TAKE FLIGHT CONTENT WITH FIDELITY.

CROWLEY ISD WILL RECEIVE TWENTY EIGHT THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND THREE DOLLARS IN SOFTWARE AND MATERIALS OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS FROM TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE AS THE PROJECT MOVES FORWARD. IN ADDITION, THE HOSPITAL WILL PROVIDE AN ONSITE PROJECT MANAGER TO ENSURE THAT THE PROJECT AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE DONE WITH FIDELITY.

AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO INVITE DR.

FRIERSON SENT TO ADDRESS THE BOARD, FOLLOWED BY MS. AVRIT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO YOU TONIGHT.

MY NAME IS SHERYL FRIERSON I'M A DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRICIAN SPECIALIZING IN DYSLEXIA, AND I'M THE NEW MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF THE LUKE WAITES CENTER FOR DYSLEXIA AT THE TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN.

AS OF JULY. SO IN THAT CONTEXT, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR ME TO MAKE SURE THAT CREDIT GOES TO THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY DESERVE CREDIT AROUND THIS.

AND I WOULD SAY THAT IS KAREN EVERETT AND MARLYS DIGGLES.

KAREN IS A BRILLIANT EDUCATOR, THE LEAD AUTHOR OF THE TAKE FLIGHT PROGRAM AND SOMEONE WHO IS FAMILIAR TO YOUR DISTRICT.

YOU CERTAINLY ARE FAMILIAR WITH TAKE FLIGHT.

AND BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO ARE TRAINED AND TAKE FLIGHT.

AND SO YOU ARE WELL AWARE THAT IT TAKES TWO YEARS TO TRAIN AN EDUCATOR TO THE LEVEL OF EXPERTISE TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER THIS PROGRAM.

THAT'S A BARRIER. AND LONG BEFORE I GOT THERE.

KAREN AVRIT AND HER TEAM HAD BEGUN TO FIND A WAY TO GET AROUND THAT BARRIER.

AND PART OF THAT IS SUPPORTING THAT, A CERTIFIED EDUCATOR TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER THE PROGRAM. PART OF THAT SUPPORT IS THIS VIRTUAL CO-TEACHER WHO SUPPORTS THE TEACHER BY INTRODUCING TOPICS THAT ARE PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT TO INTRODUCE WITH FIDELITY.

AND THEN TURNS IT OVER TO THE CERTIFIED EDUCATOR TO CONTINUE TO TEACH.

SO THIS IS NOT A COMPUTER PROGRAM TEACHING THE CHILDREN.

THIS IS A THIS IS KAREN FAVORITE AS A AS A AVATAR PRESENTING THE MOST CHALLENGING PARTS OF THIS PROGRAM. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE VERY ENGAGING AND ACCEPTABLE AND EFFECTIVE IN OUR LAB. AND SO IT'S TIME FOR AN EFFICACY STUDY.

AND THAT'S WHERE MARLYS DIGGLES COMES IN.

SHE HAS BEEN MEETING WITH KAREN AVRIT FREQUENTLY SINCE SHE TOOK HER NEW POSITION SO THAT SHE UNDERSTANDS DYSLEXIA AGAIN, SO THAT SHE UNDERSTANDS THE BEST WAYS TO INTERVENE WITH THIS SO THAT SHE CAN BRING THE BEST TO YOUR STUDENTS HERE AT CROWLEY ISD.

SO I'M VERY EXCITED THAT YOU WILL BE OUR FIRST AND ONLY SCHOOL DISTRICT WHO WILL BE PILOTING THIS PROJECT IN A SCHOOL SETTING.

AND LET ME JUST INTRODUCE TO YOU, KAREN AVRIT.

GOOD EVENING, VERY PLEASED TO BE HERE.

I HAVE BEEN PERSONALLY WORKING WITH YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR EIGHT YEARS NOW AS I HAVE PUT THOSE THERAPISTS THROUGH THE TRENCHES.

DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY SAY ABOUT ME.

I JUST BELIEVE THE GOOD PARTS.

BUT I HAVE SEEN THE DEDICATION FROM THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR YEARS ABOUT WANTING TO SERVE YOUR STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA, WANTING TO DO IT WITH FIDELITY, WANTING TO DO IT TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS.

AND I HAVE WATCHED THOSE INDIVIDUALS GROW AND WATCH THOSE INDIVIDUALS EDUCATE THE

[00:50:03]

DISTRICT AND AND MOVE FORWARD.

AND WHEN WHEN MS. DIGGLES CAME TO THE HOSPITAL, IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING BECAUSE WE WERE JUST GOING TO TALK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANT TO BE A THERAPIST AND WHAT THEY WERE GOING THROUGH.

AND WAS IT REALLY WHAT SHE HAD HEARD? YES, IT WAS. AND SHE SAID WE TOLD HER ABOUT THE HISTORY AND HOW EVERY 15 TO 20 YEARS WE COME OUT WITH SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND NEW TO PROGRESS THE EDUCATION OF STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA. AND SHE LOOKED AND SAID, WELL, IT'S BEEN ABOUT 15 YEARS.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? AND WE ALL JUST KIND OF LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND LAUGHED AND WE SAID, DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW? AND SHE SAID, YES.

SO WE TOOK HER STRAIGHT UPSTAIRS AND WHERE WE HAD THE VIRTUAL CO-TEACHER PROGRAM WORKING AND ALLOWED HER AND THE REST OF THE TEAM TO SEE IT.

WE BROUGHT DR. MCFARLAND AND LET HIM SEE IT HAPPENING.

AND IT IS AMAZING.

IT ISN'T JUST ME AS AN AVATAR.

IT'S ME AS A TWENTY NINE YEAR OLD, 110 POUND REDHEAD.

SO SO IT'S A VERY ENGAGING.

THE KIDS DON'T EVEN.

I TALK TO SPEAK TO THE STUDENTS ALL THE TIME.

THEY DON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT'S ME TO THEM.

HER NAME IS HALLEY.

AND MISS HALLEY DOES THE TEACHING AS MUCH AS THE CO-TEACHER IN THE ROOM DOES.

SO IT'S VERY INTERESTING.

SO WE JUST THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO GET STARTED THIS SUMMER AND TO MOVE FORWARD WITH IT.

SO YOU WILL BE SEEING OUR OUR FACES AROUND MORE.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? CAN I JUST COMMENT? YES.

WITH A AS A PERSON WITH DYSLEXIA, I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

SO THANK YOU.

OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I HAVE A QUESTION BECAUSE I'M OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER THE SCOTTISH RITE VIDEOS FROM 1988.

YES. YES.

HOW IS THIS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT FROM THAT? BECAUSE WHEN THOSE FIRST CAME OUT, THEY WERE ALL THE RAGE AND EVERYBODY THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT. BUT IT DIDN'T TURN OUT TO BE SO GREAT BECAUSE YOU COULD PUT IT ON SET THE STUDENT IN FRONT OF THE TV AND WALK AWAY.

HOW IS THIS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT FROM THAT? EXCELLENT QUESTION. EVERYTHING.

THE LESSON IS AN HOUR LONG.

TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES WILL BE THE VIRTUAL CO-TEACHER, SHE WILL ONLY TEACH THE HEART OF THE PROGRAM, WHICH IS THE NEW LEARNING, THE NEW LETTERS SOUND COMBINATION OR THE SUFFIX OR PREFIX, AND SHE WILL ONLY DO THE INTRODUCTION TO READING IN THE INTRODUCTION TO SPELLING THE HARDEST PIECES OF THE CURRICULUM TO TEACH.

FIFTEEN MINUTES. OTHER THAN THAT, THE OTHER FORTY FIVE MINUTES OF THE LESSON WILL BE TAUGHT LIVE BY THAT CO TEACHER IN THE ROOM, AND SHE WILL HAVE ACCESS TO SCRIPTED MATERIALS AS WELL AS TRAINING, SO THAT SHE WILL BE ABLE.

SHE WILL HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THAT CLASSROOM.

SHE ALSO UNLIKE THE VIDEOTAPES, BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I STARTED THEN TOO, WAS THE VIDEOTAPES. YOU PUT THEM ON AND IT I MEAN, IT WENT AND IT REALLY DIDN'T MATTER WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE KIDS IN THE CLASSROOM THAT JUST KEPT GOING.

UNLIKE THIS PROGRAM WHERE THE TEACHER HAS CONTROL, IF THE STUDENTS DON'T GET IT, SHE REWINDS IT.

THEY DO IT TO GET THE INTERACTION IS THERE WHEN THE VIRTUAL TEACHER ACTS, ASK A QUESTION.

SHE WAITS ON THE STUDENTS RESPONSE AND THEN SHE MOVES THEM FORWARD.

SHE HAS SHE IS THE TEACHER IN THE CLASSROOM AND THE VIRTUAL COACH.

THE VIRTUAL TEACHER JUST DOES THOSE PARTS THAT TAKE SO LONG WITH A THERAPEUTIC MODEL TO BE ABLE TO GET THOSE THERAPISTS TRAINED TO THE LEVEL THEY ARE.

SO THAT 15 MINUTES OF YOU IS GOING TO TAKE AWAY SOME OF THE TRAINING TIME FOR THE TEACHERS. ABSOLUTELY.

THE THERAPY LEVEL IS A TWO YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM.

THIS WILL BE. DON'T HOLD ME TO THIS BECAUSE IT'S NOT FINISHED YET, BUT THIS WILL BE ABOUT A TWO WEEK TRAINING IN THE SUMMER AT THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL.

WE HAVE IT ON KIND OF A RANGE AND THEN WE WILL COME BACK A COUPLE TIMES DURING THE YEAR BEFORE THEY START THE NEXT BOOK SO THAT WE CAN TALK ABOUT A CHANGE OR WHATEVER HAPPENS IN THE NEXT BOOK. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, THAT WILL ALLOW THE TRAINING TIME TO GO WAY DOWN.

[00:55:08]

SO NO TRAINING FOR THE TEACHERS DURING THE SUMMER.

THEY WILL BE WHAT WE ACTUALLY THE WAY WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT IS WE ARE GOING TO ASK OUR TEAM IS GOING TO COME HERE AND YOUR FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL WHILE THE STUDENTS WILL BE TESTED AND THE THINGS THAT NEED TO HAPPEN WITH THEM DURING THAT TIME, THEIR THEIR TEACHERS WILL BE DELIVERING THE INFORMATION, WILL GO THROUGH THEIR TRAINING.

OK. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? DR. MCFARLAND? SO SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE MS. DIGGLES FOR BRINGING THIS THIS AWESOME OPPORTUNITY TO THE DISTRICT.

BASICALLY, AS AS THEY MENTIONED, SHE WAS OUT LEARNING MORE ABOUT DYSLEXIA AND SAW IT OPPORTUNITY, BRINGING IT TO OUR DISTRICT AND NOW OUR OUR TEACHERS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO AN EXPERT, TO THE AUTHOR OF THE PROGRAM.

WE'RE DEFINITELY PROUD OF THAT.

AND WE BELIEVE THAT THEY WILL HAVE MANY OTHER PARTNERSHIPS WITH TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE.

WE KNOW THERE ARE MANY OTHER INNOVATIVE THINGS THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING AT TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE AND WE WANT TO BE A PART OF IT.

SO THANK YOU ALL FOR THE FOR THE PARTNERSHIP AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT.

MR. GRASSIA, DID YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANTED TO SAY? I JUST WANTED TO SAY HER NAME WAS [INAUDIBLE].

THE LADY TEACHING FOR 15 MINUTES.

MS. [INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU SO MUCH. IT SOUNDS EXCITING.

THANK YOU. OK.

WE'LL MOVE NOW TO OUR NEXT REPORT ITEM, CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT.

BOARD MEMBERS. MR. KIRCHNER WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

MS. DAVIS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND EVERY YEAR.

WE, AS YOU KNOW, ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE AND CONTINUE EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING OF THE MONTH.

WE ARE ASKED TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE STATUS OF YOUR CONTINUING EDUCATION.

THEY'RE DIFFERENT TIERS. THEY'RE REQUIRED.

AND AS YOU ALL KNOW, YOU PARTICIPATE NOT ONLY IN BOARD MEETINGS MULTIPLE TIMES A MONTH, CONFERENCES AND TRAININGS.

AND SO ON BEHALF OF OUR DISTRICT.

WE WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.

AND TONIGHT, WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT ALL CROWLEY ISD BOARD MEMBERS HAVE MET THE REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR THE YEAR.

SO CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO.

THANK YOU, MR. KIRCHNER.

[8.0 Consideration and Possible Action Item(s)]

WE'RE GONNA MOVE NOW TO OUR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS, ACCEPTANCE OF BLENDED LEARNING GRANT.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE DEFINITELY FOCUSED IN THE DISTRICT ON TRANSFORMATION AND ALSO ACQUIRING ADDITIONAL FUNDING OUTSIDE FUNDING TO HELP US TO MOVE THE AGENDA FORWARD.

BUT THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF OF A TEAM OF PEOPLE GOING OUT SEARCHING FOR GRANT FUNDING AND BEING ABLE TO REALLY RECEIVE THE GRANT FUNDING.

SO WE NOW HAVE MS. POLK HERE TONIGHT TO SHARE THAT INFORMATION AND THEN WE'LL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AFTER THAT. MS POLK. GOOD EVENING, MADAM DAVIS, DR.

MCFARLAND AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

MR. KEITH AND AND WERE ABLE TO PARTNER UP AND WORK ON THE BLENDED LEARNING GRANT.

AND I'M EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TONIGHT THAT CROWLEY ISD HAS RECEIVED THAT GRANT THROUGH THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY.

THEIR BLENDED LEARNING GRANT ALIGNS WITH GOAL 1 AND 5.

AND WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR. BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAM COMBINES ONLINE LEARNING WITH FACE TO FACE TEACHER INSTRUCTION TO HELP TEACHERS EFFECTIVELY DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION FOR ALL STUDENTS. SO THE TEAM WILL SPEND THE REST OF THE YEAR DESIGNING WHAT THAT WILL LOOK LIKE FOR CROWLEY ISD.

THE BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAM IS A FOUR YEAR PROCESS, STARTING WITH ZERO YEAR FOR PLANNING AND THREE ADDITIONAL YEARS.

THREE ADDITIONAL YEARS WILL BE IMPLEMENTATION YEARS AND WE WILL RECEIVE ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR THOSE YEARS.

FOUR CAMPUSES WILL PILOT THIS PROGRAM AND IT WILL BE DAVID WALKER ELEMENTARY, POYNTER ELEMENTARY, PARKWAY AND HF STEVENS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THESE CAMPUSES WERE CHOSEN BASED UPON DATA AND THEIR LAST THREE YEARS AND ACCOUNTABILITY RATING. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GRANT, I CAN ANSWER THAT.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OF THAT INSTRUCTION, I WOULD DEFER AND ASK MR. KEITH. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, I WOULD ASK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME TO ASK. YEAH, I WOULD LIKE THIS TO KEEP JUST TO GIVE A HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW OF ACTUALLY HOW WE WILL USE THIS TO IMPACT OUR INSTRUCTION.

THANK YOU, GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

THANK YOU, DOCTOR MCFARLAND. SO IF YOU CAN JUST PICTURE WALKING INTO A BLENDED LEARNING CLASSROOM, IT LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN A TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM.

IT'S A TEACHER SURROUNDED BY A SMALL GROUP.

BUT THEN YOU HAVE STUDENTS WORKING AT THEIR OWN PACE.

ADDRESSING SPECIFIC SKILLS, SKILL GAPS, USING TECHNOLOGY INDIVIDUALLY.

YOU HAVE OTHER STUDENTS WORKING IN COLLABORATIVE GROUPS, HANDS ON.

AND REALLY WHAT IT DOES IS IT LETS US CUSTOMIZE AND PERSONALIZE INSTRUCTION TO ADDRESS

[01:00:04]

THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS.

SO THE GRANT IS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE MATH CLASSROOM.

BUT WE LOOK TO TAKE WHAT WE LEARN FROM THAT PART OF THE GRANT AND APPLY IT IN OTHER PLACES. THERE ARE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS.

I HAVE ONE.

SO YOU SAYS JUST FOR MATH, IS IT THE UPPER GRADES? IS THAT. DID YOU SAY THAT AND I MISSED IT FOR WHICH GRADE LEVEL? SO IT IS A THREE YEAR ROLLOUT AND WE PHASE IN BASICALLY THREE GRADE LEVELS EACH YEAR.

BY THE END OF THOSE THREE YEARS, IT'LL BE KINDERGARTEN THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE.

OK, OK.

FIRST YEAR IT WILL START K AND THREE AND SIX AND THEN SCAFFOLD UP.

OK. AND IT'S.

IS IT A COMPETITIVE GRANT? YES. IT'S VERY COMPETITIVE.

THERE ARE TWENTY FIVE AWARDEES AND WE WERE ONE OF THEM.

FOUR ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS.

OKAY. CONGRATULATIONS.

SO IT'S A THREE YEAR CYCLE FOR YOUR FOUR YEAR CYCLE.

OK. OK. CONGRATULATIONS.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? MS. ROBINSON. HOW MANY CAMPUS TEACHERS WILL BE TRAINED? IS IT ONE MATH TEACHER OR ALL MATH TEACHER? IS SO MUCH PART OF THE GRANT IS TO HIRE A PROJECT MANAGER WHO IS SPECIFICALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT TRAINING. SO AS WE PHASE IN EACH GRADE LEVEL, THE TEACHERS AT THAT GRADE LEVEL ARE TRAINED.

SOME PRINCIPALS HAVE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN TAKING THAT TRAINING AND APPLYING IT TO THE SMALL GROUP AND STATION WORK THAT THEY DO IN OTHER CLASSROOMS. AND SO WE'RE EXPERIMENTING WITH WHAT EXACTLY THAT WILL LOOK LIKE.

BUT DEFINITELY THE TEACHERS WHO HAVE THE PHASE IN.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CONGRATULATE THE GRANTS DEPARTMENT OF ONE, WITH ALL OF THE HELP AND SUPPORT, IT IS VERY, VERY EXCITING WHEN WE CAN GET GRANTS SO THAT WE CAN DO SOME OF THESE KINDS OF THINGS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND AND WE ARE REALLY GETTING A LOT OF GRANTS NOW.

AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.

OK. OK.

OUR NEXT ITEM.

OH, OK. NO. OK.

IS THERE A MOTION? ACCEPT THIS GRANT.

I MOVE WE ACCEPT THE GRANTS AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY MR. RAY.

IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND.

SECOND BY DR. MAYFIELD, MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY.

OK. OUR NEXT ITEM, SPECIAL SPECIAL EDUCATION, INNOVATIVE COURSES, APPLICATION CAREER CONNECTIONS, ONE THROUGH FOUR CAREER CONNECTIONS AND TECHNOLOGY.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

MR. WILLIAMS IS HERE PREPARED TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

THANK YOU, MS. DAVIS. DR. MCFARLAND, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TEA REQUIRES BOARD APPROVAL BEFORE APPLYING FOR AN INNOVATIVE COURSE OF THE SPECIAL.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT IS EXCITED FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION TONIGHT OF THE CAREER CONNECTIONS INNOVATIVE COURSE SEQUENCE, THE CAREER CONNECTIONS INNOVATIVE COURSE SEQUENCE CAME ABOUT AS DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS STRUGGLED TO FIND MEANINGFUL HIGH SCHOOL ELECTIVES FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS IN SELF-CONTAINED CLASSROOMS ON AN ALTERNATE CURRICULUM, THE CAREER CONNECTIONS INNOVATIVE CORE SEQUENCE ADDRESSES THE NEEDS OF THESE STUDENTS AND BOARD APPROVAL IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION.

THE TARGET POPULATION OR OUR DISTRICT IS OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT BOTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL AND NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN OUR LIFE SKILLS AND FUNCTIONAL ACADEMICS CLASSROOMS AND WE WOULD BEGIN IN THE 2020 21 SCHOOL YEAR.

THE BENEFIT FOR OUR STUDENTS IS THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO EARN UP TO NINE HOURS OF STATE ELECTIVE CREDIT THAT IS TARGETED TO THEIR NEEDS AND THIS WILL REPLACE CURRENTLY THOSE STUDENTS ARE RECEIVING LOCAL ELECTIVE CREDIT.

THE BENEFIT FOR USING FOR ACQUIRING STATE CREDIT VERSUS LOCAL CREDIT IS THAT STATE CREDIT FOR THESE INNOVATIVE COURSES CAN BE APPLIED TO THE 22 CREDIT, OUR GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

WHILE LOCAL CREDIT CANNOT AND ALSO STATE ELECTIVE CREDITS CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN TEXAS.

CURRENTLY IN TEXAS, LOCAL CREDIT CAN ONLY BE TRANSFERRED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE RECEIVING SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THIS LAST SLIDE SHOWS YOU THE FOUR YEAR CAREER CONNECTIONS, INNOVATIVE CORE SEQUENCE AND THE LOCAL CREDIT THAT IT WOULD REPLACE.

[01:05:01]

AND I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME.

I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.

THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? HE DID GOOD. THANK YOU.

OK. IS THERE A MOTION? I RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF A SPECIAL EDUCATION INNOVATIVE COURSES APPLICATION AS PRESENTED, ALTHOUGH THERE'S ONE TINY SPELLING ERROR ON THE FIRST.

OK. OK.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY MS. BENTON, IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND. A SECOND BY MS. HALL? MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY.

OUR NEXT ITEM, PURCHASE A VIDEO SCOREBOARD FOR CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL CENTER GYMNASIUM.

DR. MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. LINCOLN IS HERE TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

GOOD EVENING PRESIDENT DAVIS.

MEMBERS OF BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND. I DO STAND BEFORE YOU TODAY TO ASK THAT WE PURCHASE A VIDEO BOARD FOR CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL CENTER GYM, SIMILAR TO THE VIDEO BOARD THAT WE HAVE IN NORTH CROWLEY.

AS WE HAVE STAKEHOLDERS, WE CONTINUE TO VISIT OUR NORTH CROWLEY FACILITY.

THE ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT THAT WE CONTINUE TO HEAR.

WE HAVE SO MANY POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT THE GYM ITSELF.

BUT THE ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT THAT WE CONTINUE TO HEAR A LOT OF REALLY POSITIVE REVIEWS ON WOULD BE THE VIDEO BOARD WHICH IS PICTURED HERE.

WHAT THIS WILL ALSO ALLOW IT WILL ALLOW OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND THOSE THAT VISIT OUR GYM AND CENTER GYM, THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE MORE ENHANCE WITH THE POSITIVE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING NOT ONLY IN ATHLETICS, BUT FOR ANY GROUP THAT CHOOSES TO USE CENTER GYM.

SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, WE WE DEFINITELY WOULD APPRECIATE THE PURCHASE OF A VIDEO BOARD SIMILAR TO THIS ONE.

AND AS USUAL, WE IN ATHLETICS.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND I'M AVAILABLE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME.

ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.

THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? JUST A QUICK QUESTION. YOU SAID SIMILAR.

SO IT'S NOT THE EXACT.

YES MA'AM.

IT'S EXACT.

WE BELIEVE IN EQUITY.

OKAY. I'M SORRY IF I MISLED YOU.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING CARE OF THIS QUICKLY, BECAUSE IT WAS IT WAS URGENT.

YES, MA'AM. WE UNDERSTAND.

OKAY. IS THERE A MOTION TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF A VIDEO SCOREBOARD FOR THE CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL CENTER GYMNASIUM AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY MISS BENTON.

IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND.

A SECOND BY MS. HALL, MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY.

[INAUDIBLE]. HE IS IN THE OTHER ROOM.

THANK YOU AGAIN. WE ARE WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO GET THIS UP AND RUNNING.

AND AGAIN, WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT.

AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.

THANK YOU. OKAY.

WE'LL MOVE NOW TO NAMING A FACILITY.

NAMING OF FACILITIES.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NUMBER.

DOC MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

AS YOU KNOW, WE'LL BE OPENING UP MIDDLE SCHOOL NUMBER FOUR IN THE FALL OF 2020.

WE ARE NOW THIS ITEM ON THE AGENDA WILL ALLOW US TO NAME A MIDDLE SCHOOL FOUR AND SO WE WILL OPEN UP THE FLOOR FOR NOMINATIONS ONCE THE NOMINATION IS RECEIVED.

THEN AS A BOARD, YOU CAN VOTE ON THE NOMINEES.

OKAY. IS THERE A NOMINATION? MR. RAY.

I WOULD NOMINATE.

I DON'T KNOW. I WOULD NOMINATE THAT NAME.

WHAT'S THAT? YEAH, NO, I KNOW WHAT TO SAY.

IT'S GRAMMATICALLY IT DOESN'T SOUND CORRECT TO ME.

I WOULD NORMALLY I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL BE RICHARD ALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL. WE'VE HAD AN OUTPOURING OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT FROM OUR STAFF.

[INAUDIBLE] THIRTY SIX YEARS.

HE'S GONE NOW. BUT MY MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL [INAUDIBLE].

[01:10:03]

OK, WE HAVE A NOMINATION OF RICHARD ALLEY.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS? SO THE NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED.

IS THERE A MOTION? I MOVE THAT WE.

YEAH. I'M NOT SURE HOW IT WORKS, BUT I'LL GO AHEAD AND MAKE A MOVE WE VOTE TO APPROVE THE NAMING OF THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL AS RICHARD ALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

OK, SO WE HAVE THE FORMAL NOMINATION FOR RICHARD ALLEY AS THE NAME FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

IS THERE A SECOND. I'LL SECOND.

SECOND BY MR. GRASSIA AND MOVE TO VOTE PLACE.

THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY THE NAME OF THE NEW THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL NUMBER FOUR WILL BE RICHARD ALLEY.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. ALLEY. OUR NEXT ITEM, NAMING OF FACILITIES, OPERATIONS FACILITY.

IS THERE A NAME FOR.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS YOU ALL ARE, WHERE WE ARE REBUILDING OUR OPERATIONS FACILITY.

AND SO THIS ITEM IS LISTED ON THE AGENDA AS A POSSIBLE NAMING OF OUR OPERATIONS FACILITY.

OK. IS THERE A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE NAMING OF THE OPERATIONS FACILITY? I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THE NAME OF THE OPERATIONS BUILDING AS CROWLEY ISD THESE OPERATIONS BUILDING.

OK. WE HAVE A NOMINATION FOR CROWLEY ISD OPERATIONS FACILITY.

IS THERE ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION? OK. THE NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED.

MS. ROBINSON, WOULD YOU MAKE THAT A MOTION, PLEASE? I MOVE THAT WE NAME THE OPERATIONS BUILDING, CROWLEY ISD OPERATIONS BUILDING.

WE HAVE A MOTION BY MS. ROBINSON.

IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND.

SECOND BY MS. HALL MOVE TO VOTE, PLEASE.

THE MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY.

WE WILL MOVE NOW TO OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEMS TASB BOARD POLICY UPDATE 114.

[9.0 Future Action Item(s)]

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE UPDATE 114 FOR FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

MS. [INAUDIBLE] IS HERE TO PRESENT THIS ITEM.

OK. GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, RESPECTED BOARD MEMBERS AND DR.

MCFARLAND, I THANK YOU THIS EVENING.

I AM PRESENTING TO YOU.

I HAVE THE GREAT PLEASURE OF PRESENTING TO YOU UPDATE 114.

AND THIS IS ALIGNED TO ALL FIVE GOALS AND IT IS PRESENTED TO YOU AS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

IN TOTAL, THERE ARE 19 POLICIES THAT I'LL BE REVIEWING THAT WERE PRESENTED AT UPDATE 114.

I'D LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT 16 OF THE POLICIES ARE CURRENTLY HOUSED IN DISTRICT AND THREE OF THE POLICIES ARE PRESENTED AS AN UPDATE 114 BUT ARE NOT CURRENTLY HOUSED IN THE DISTRICT FOR SAKE OF TIME.

AND WITH YOUR PERMISSION BOARD, I'LL SEEK TO SUMMARIZE A FEW OF THEM.

AND THEN AT THE END, IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION, I CAN SHARE THAT WITH YOU.

BUT THIS IS ONLY FOR SAKE OF TIME.

SO WE'LL START WITH THE FIRST.

YES. OKAY. SO BDAF IS ONE OF THOSE POLICIES THAT WERE PRESENTED.

IT'S NOT CURRENTLY HOUSED IN OUR DISTRICT AND IT IS BEING REVIEWED BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WHO IS WORKING ON IT SPECIFICALLY IN THAT AREA.

BE LOCAL BOARD MEETINGS NOTICE TO MEMBERS BASICALLY IS AS A RESULT OF A SENATE BILL 494 THAT CHANGE THE TIME REQUIRED TO POST NOTICE OF AN EMERGENCY MEETING FOR TWO HOURS TO ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE MEETING.

SO BASICALLY IT'S REFLECTING THOSE CHANGES.

IT'LL CLARIFY WHAT CONSTITUTES AN EMERGENCY OR URGENT PUBLIC NECESSITY THAT WOULD PERMIT THE BOARD TO CALL AN EMERGENCY MEETING.

BED BOARD MEETINGS AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION.

THIS ONE BASICALLY IS TO COMPLY WITH THE NEW LAW, REVISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO BE BED LOCAL. THE RECOMMENDED RECOMMENDED POLICY REQUIRES THAT PUBLIC COMMENT ON AN AGENDA ITEM

[01:15:01]

OCCUR BEFORE BOARD CONSIDERATION OF THE ITEM.

SO THIS IS BASICALLY ATTENDING TO THAT PUBLIC COMMENT AND AGENDA BEING POSTED.

CCGB ONCE AGAIN IS ONE POLICY THAT IS NOT HOUSED IN THE DISTRICT.

CDA REFERENCES OTHER REVENUES AND INVESTMENTS.

CH LOCAL REFERENCES, PURCHASING AND ACQUISITIONS.

CKC LOCAL REFERENCES.

SAFETY PROGRAM. RISK MANAGEMENT IN A EMERGENCY PLAN.

CKE LOCAL REFERENCES SAFETY PROGRAM RISK MANAGEMENT AND SECURITY PERSONNEL.

CQB LOCAL REFERENCES TECHNOLOGY, RESOURCES AND CYBERSECURITY.

AND I'LL SPEAK A BIT ON ON THAT POLICY.

IT INCLUDES THE RECOMMENDATION.

IT IS A NEW POLICY I'D LIKE US TO KNOW THAT INCLUDES RECOMMENDED LANGUAGE FOR CYBERSECURITY POLICIES.

IT'LL ADDRESS THE PLANS AND THE TRAININGS OF EMPLOYEES AND BOARD MEMBERS.

AND ALSO IT WILL ADDRESS THE NEED TO REPORT SECURITY BREACHES TO THE TEXAS EDUCATIONAL AGENCY. DFFA REFERENCES REDUCTION IN FORCE: FINANCIAL EXIGENCY. SORRY.

DHJKA LOCAL REFERENCES EMPLOYEE STANDARDS OF CONDUCT AND CONDUCT OF SCHOOL PREMISES.

EHBB LOCAL OR REFERENCE SPECIAL PROGRAMS. GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS.

ELA CAMPUS OR PROGRAM CHARTERS.

PARTNERSHIP CHARTERS. ONCE AGAIN IS ONE THAT IS NOT CURRENTLY HOUSED IN DISTRICT.

FDE LOCAL REFERENCES, ADMISSION SCHOOLS, SAFETIES TRANSFERS AND FFA LOCAL REFERENCES WELLNESS AND HEALTH SERVICES PHYSICAL EDUCATION.

FFB LOCAL REFERENCES STUDENT WELFARE CRISIS INTERVENTION AND FFBA WILL REFERENCE CRISIS INTERVENTION. TRAUMA INFORMED CARE.

AND IF YOU DON'T MIND, I'LL DISCUSS THIS ONE A BIT WITH US.

THIS ONCE AGAIN IS A NEW POLICY WHICH ADDRESSES TRAUMA INFORMED CARE.

IT WILL ADDRESS ELEMENTS THAT ARE REQUIRED IN THE DISTRICT'S PROGRAM, INCLUDING INCREASING STAFF AND PARENT AWARENESS OF TRAUMA, INFORMED CARE REQUIRING TRAINING, AVAILABLE COUNSELING OPTIONS FOR THE STUDENTS AFFECTED BY TRAUMA OR GRIEF.

THE POLICY ALSO AFFIRMS THAT THE DISTRICT SHALL REPORT TRAINING COMPLIANCE TO.

AND FINALLY, WE WILL BE ADDRESSING FL LOCAL FOR STUDENT RECORDS.

SO ONCE AGAIN, WHAT I HAVE SHARED WITH YOU BOARD MEMBERS IS THE INFORMATION THAT YOU NEED TO BE ADVISED ON SOME OF THE POLICIES THAT WE'RE CURRENTLY REVIEWING AS A RESULT OF UPDATE 114.

YOU HAVE THE VANTAGE POINTS.

YOU ALSO HAVE THE POLICY COMPARISON CHARTS, THE EXPLANATORY NOTES AND THE INSTRUCTION SHEETS. FOR THE APPROVAL PROCESS, WE ARE BASICALLY LOOKING AT THE AT THE MOMENT.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE SUBMITTED ALL OF THE POLICIES TO THE INDIVIDUAL RESPECTIVE INDIVIDUALS THAT WILL BE EVALUATING AND MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHANGES.

SO THE PROPOSED REVISIONS ASSOCIATED TO THE AREA OF THE RESPONSIBILITY AND THEY'LL RESPOND BY INDICATING ONE WILL THEY ADOPT POLICY AS WRITTEN OR TWO ADOPT POLICY IS WRITTEN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OR THREE ADOPT POLICIES WRITTEN WITH THE ADDITION OF.

WE ALSO HAVE A POLICY REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING THAT WAS PENDING LEGAL POLICIES.

I WOULD LIKE US TO KNOW WHAT THERE ARE.

THERE'S PLENTIFUL AMOUNT OF LEGAL POLICY THAT LUCKILY IT IS BEING UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY AND WE WILL BE REVIEWING LOCAL POLICY RECOMMENDATION CHARTS ARE DUE ON JANUARY 17TH AND AS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM, WE WILL BE PRESENTING THE BOARD POLICY CHART TO YOU FOR YOUR REVIEW AND APPROVAL.

SO THEREFORE, THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION ON UPDATE 114.

SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS I CAN ADDRESS AT THIS TIME.

OKAY. AND THIS IS THE FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

YES, IT IS. SO ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS TONIGHT? THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU.

OUR NEXT ITEM 2020 2021 SCHOOL CALENDAR.

DR. MCFARLAND, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE REALLY AT THE POINT NOW WHERE WE'RE CONSIDERING A CALENDAR FOR 2020 2021.

WE HAVE MR. KIRCHNER HERE PREPARED TO ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

YES, MR. DAVIS, MEMBERS OF BOARD.

THANK YOU, DR. MCFARLAND. THERE IN YOUR PACKETS YOU WILL SEE OUR CURRENT 2019 CALENDAR FOR REFERENCE, AND THEN TWO POTENTIAL DRAFT OPTIONS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT HERE AT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION WITH OUR PRINCIPALS AND OUR DISTRICT WIDE EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL.

AND WITH PLANS TO GET INPUT FROM THE CAMPUSES ON THOSE TWO OPTIONS AND BRING A POTENTIAL RECOMMENDATION TO YOU ALL IN JANUARY FOR APPROVAL.

[01:20:02]

NOW IS THE TIME WHEN DISTRICTS ARE LOOKING AT THEIR 2021 CALENDARS AND APPROVING THOSE FOR PLANNING PURPOSES.

THE BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THOSE TWO OPTIONS IS REALLY JUST ONE DAY.

OPTION A HAS A FULL DAY STAFF DEVELOPMENT ON NOVEMBER 13TH.

OPTION B REMOVES THAT DAY AND INSTEAD GIVES THAT TIME BACK TO TEACHERS AS AN ADDITIONAL TEACHER WORKDAY AND THE WEEK OF JANUARY 4TH AND 5TH AND 6TH.

SO THEY'LL HAVE A WORKDAY AND A PD DAY WHEN THEY COME BACK TO SCHOOL IN JANUARY FROM WINTER BREAK. SO CAMPUSES ARE LOOKING AT THOSE TWO OPTIONS OR WEIGHING THE PROS AND CONS AND RECEIVING INPUT. IF THE BOARD HAS ANY QUESTIONS OR INPUT ABOUT OUR CURRENT CALENDAR OR ANY OF THE DRAFTS, WE'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER THOSE TONIGHT.

ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS THAT QUESTIONS HOW MANY SCHOOL DAYS ON THE CALENDAR? I LEFT. MY TALLY OF DAYS.

I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW WE DO A LOT OF THE MEASURING BY MINUTES FOR TEA.

AND THOSE MINUTES VARY BASED ON ELEMENTARY VERSUS MIDDLE VERSUS HIGH SCHOOL.

BUT ALSO, I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE DAYS FOR TEACHERS IS STILL THAT 187 REQUIRED BY THEIR CONTRACT. BUT I LEFT MY TALLY SHEET OF THE STUDENT DAYS AT MY DESK BUT I CAN WRITE THAT INFORMATION TO YOU ALL IN E-MAIL.

I JUST HAVE A COMMENT THAT CONSIDERATION OF THAT NOVEMBER 13TH DAY MIGHT INCLUDE WHETHER OR NOT CROWLEY ISD WILL BE GOING THROUGH THE READING ACADEMIES IN 2020 2021 SCHOOL YEAR.

SO HARD TO SAY THIS YEAR IS GONNA BE TOUGH.

AND IF SO, THAT DAY COULD BE NEEDED FOR THE KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THIRD GRADE TEACHERS.

THANK YOU. OK.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? THANK YOU, MR. KIRCHNER.

OUR NEXT ITEM, MAY 2ND, 2020 BOARD OF TRUSTEES ORDER OF ELECTION.

DR. MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT.

BOARD MEMBERS. MR. KIRCHNER WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

YES, MS DAVIS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

MCFARLAND. WE WILL BE BRINGING TO YOU AN ORDER ELECTION FOR CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION AT THE JANUARY BOARD MEETING.

AND THIS IS FOR THE MAY 2ND BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTION.

THE FOLLOWING PLACES WILL BE UP FOR ELECTION IN MAY.

PLACE ONE AND PLACE TWO.

AND SO YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THAT ORDER OF ELECTION AT OUR JANUARY MEETING.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? YOU DON'T THINK SO? THANK YOU.

AND OUR FINAL ITEM, A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT THE HART INTERCIVIC VERITY SYSTEM AS A VOTING SYSTEM TO BE USED FOR ALL FORMS OF VOTING IN TARRANT COUNTY.

DR. MCFARLAND.

MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS.

MR. KIRCHER WILL ADDRESS THIS ITEM.

YES. THIS IS THE HART INTERCIVIC VERITY SYSTEM.

AND THIS IS BROUGHT TO US BY THE TARRANT COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

TARRANT COUNTY IS GOING WITH THIS NEW SYSTEM OF EQUIPMENT FOR ALL OF THEIR ELECTIONS.

AND AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE PARTNER WITH TARRANT COUNTY ELECTION FOR OUR SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS. AND SO THEY REACH OUT TO ALL THE DISTRICTS, MUNICIPALITIES THAT THEY RUN ELECTIONS FOR AND ASK THAT WE BRING THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BOARD, THAT YOU SUPPORT THE USE OF THIS SYSTEM.

THE COMMISSIONERS WENT THROUGH AND STUDIED THIS AND THIS SWITCH TO THIS NEW SYSTEM.

AND SO THEY SENT THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL THE MUNICIPALITIES AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY BE USING THIS AND ASK FOR THIS RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THAT.

AND SO THIS IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM THAT WAS BROUGHT TO US BY THE COMMISSIONERS.

OK. QUESTION.

RIGHT. I JUST SAY I DON'T THINK IT'LL HAVE ANY IMPACT IN OUR ELECTIONS, BUT THESE THINGS ARE SLOW. MAN, 2020 IS GOING TO BE HORRIBLE.

IT'S GOOD.

IT'S ALL ELECTRONIC.

YOU CAN VOTE ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTY NOW.

SO ON ELECTION DAY, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO THE CHURCH DOWN THE STREET.

EVERY YOU GO BY THE POLICE, THEY WORK.

AND THAT'S GOOD. IT'S YOU KNOW, BUT IT'S ALL ELECTRONIC.

AND THEY GOT PAPER BALLOTS, WHICH ARE GOOD, TOO.

BUT IT'S JUST IT'S GOING TO BE 2020'S GOING TO BE HORRIBLE.

VOTE EARLY. YES.

YEAH. THEN WE'RE JUST AGREEING TO USE THAT.

AND I MEAN, I DON'T SEE WHY NOT.

AND I MEAN, FOR A SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION, I'D LOVE TO SEE, YOU KNOW, 50 PERCENT TURNOUT OR WHATNOT. BUT, YOU KNOW, WITH THE TURNOUT LEVELS THAT WE HAVE, EVEN ON A REALLY GOOD YEAR, I DON'T THINK THE CITY IS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM.

RIGHT. YEAH. ABSOLUTELY.

PROBABLY. OK.

OTHER COMMENTS.

OK. THAT IS A FUTURE ACTION ITEM.

AND I HAVE BEEN REMINDED.
