[3.0 Superintendent Report]
AT THIS TIME, WE WILL TURN IT OVER TO SUPERINTENDENT MICHAEL MCFARLAND FOR AGENDA ITEM 3.0.THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS.
AS WE ENTER INTO THIS LAST TWO WEEKS OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, I JUST WANT TO PAUSE AND SAY THANK YOU TO OUR PARENTS FOR ALLOWING US TO WORK WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND THANK YOU, BOARD, FOR ALLOWING ME TO SERVE ALONGSIDE OF YOU AND WITH THIS GREAT ADMINISTRATION IN CROWLEY ISD.
THERE'S A QUOTE THAT SAID THE EYES OF THE FUTURE ARE LOOKING BACK AT US AND THEY ARE HOPING AND PRAYING ON BENDED KNEES THAT WE WILL SEE BEYOND OUR TIME.
BUT WHAT I WANT TO SAY TODAY IS THAT THE EYES OF THE FUTURE WERE LOOKING BACK AT US IN CROWLEY, AND THEY WERE HOPING AND PRAYING THAT WE COULD SEE BEYOND OUR TIME AND OUR COMMUNITY THE COMMUNITY OF CROWLEY ISD.
THIS WEEKEND AS THEY ACTUALLY PASSED THE $1.04 BILLION BOND.
SO LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR OUR COMMUNITY [APPLAUSE].
BUT, YOU KNOW, THERE WERE SOME UNIQUE THINGS THAT OCCURRED DURING THIS TIME.
AND I WANT TO REALLY PERSONALLY THANK THE BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY FOR JUST BEING JUST TIRELESSLY SUPPORTING CROWLEY ISD OPENING UP THE DOOR FOR CROWLEY ISD TO REALLY HEAR ABOUT OUR STORY. WE COLLECTIVELY COMPLETED OVER 300 PLUS COMMUNITY MEETINGS OVER 100 DAY PERIOD, AND WE TOOK EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY TO DO OUR NUMBER ONE RESPONSIBILITY, WHICH IS TO EDUCATE OUR COMMUNITY.
WE WORK TOGETHER TO INFORM THEM, TO EDUCATE THEM.
SO ON ANOTHER NOTE, I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO JUST PAUSE FOR A SECOND.
YOU KNOW, I KNOW WE'RE HAVING TO DO THIS WAY TOO OFTEN, BUT WE DO NEED TO PAUSE FOR A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR THE FOR THE FAMILIES THAT WERE IN THEIR IN THEIR LIVES THAT WERE IMPACTED BY THE TRAGEDY IN ALLEN.
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. WE SIMPLY HAVE TO DO MORE THAN CONTINUE TO PAUSE WHEN THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN.
WHAT WE KNOW IS, THOUGH, IN LIGHT OF THESE RECENT TRAGEDIES AND ACTS OF VIOLENCE THAT HAVE OCCURRED THROUGHOUT OUR COUNTRY AND SPECIFICALLY IN OUR STATE, WITHIN OUR STATE AND OUR REGION, I BELIEVE, YOU KNOW, SUPERINTENDENT OF THIS DISTRICT AND I KNOW THE BOARD FEELS THE SAME, THAT IT'S THAT IT'S PRUDENT FOR US TO REFOCUS OUR EFFORTS AROUND SAFETY AND SECURITY AS WE PREPARE TO CLOSE OUT THIS SCHOOL YEAR AS WE HEAD INTO THE SUMMER.
AND BOY, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO STOP FOR A SECOND AND INTRODUCE OUR SAFETY TEAM.
[00:10:03]
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, WE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING IN OUR SAFETY ADMINISTRATORS FROM THE DISTRICT WIDE.DR. NOEL REID. MS. MS. FIELDS. MS. KRISTIN FIELDS AND MR. TYE CRAWFORD.
THESE ARE THREE OF OUR DISTRICT SAFETY ADMINISTRATORS THAT ARE HELPING US TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE MEETING ALL OF THE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BY THE COMMISSIONER AND ALSO BY THE GOVERNOR. ALSO, OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT, DR.
WRIGHT AND MS. KUNTSCHIK AND OUR CAMPUS ADMINISTRATORS.
PARENTS AND STUDENTS AND STAFF.
SPECIFICALLY, WE WILL START A STRICTER ENFORCEMENT OF STUDENT ID BADGES.
IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE'RE ABLE TO IDENTIFY ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE STUDENTS ON OUR CAMPUSES.
ALL STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE THEIR ID BADGES VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES.
ALSO PARENTS WE'RE ASKING YOU TO DO IS TO REMIND OUR STUDENTS REMIND YOUR STUDENTS OF THE NEED TO WEAR THESE BADGES ALL DAY AND TO PRESENT THEM TO ANY ADULT IN THE BUILDING THAT ASKS FOR THEM.
WE ASK THAT YOU ASK MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS KNOW TO PRESENT THEIR BADGES TO ANY ADULT ASKS.
AFTER THAT, IT COULD BE A PLACEMENT IN DETENTION LEADING TO ISS AND POTENTIALLY SUSPENSION.
IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE CAN IDENTIFY ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.
THE ONLY WAY WE CAN DO THAT IS IF THEY HAVE BADGES ON.
THANK YOU, PARENTS, FOR HELPING US TO TO UNDERSTAND THAT AND HELPING US TO ENFORCE THAT.
ALSO IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR HALLS ARE CLEAR AND THAT STUDENTS ARE IN AN APPROPRIATE LOCATION, WE'LL BE CONDUCTING RANDOM HALL SWEEPS THROUGHOUT OUR BUILDINGS AFTER THE TARDY BELL.
STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT IN CLASS DURING DURING CLASS TIME COULD BE SUBJECTED, SUBJECTED TO IMMEDIATE ASSIGNMENT, TO DETENTION THAT COULD LEAD TO IN SCHOOL OR IN OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION. IT'S CRITICAL.
IT'S CRITICAL THAT THESE STUDENTS REALIZE THAT SCHOOL IS NOT OVER.
COMMUNITY MEMBERS, WE ARE REQUESTING YOUR ASSISTANCE WITH HELPING US TO ENSURE OUR STUDENTS ARE SAFE WE'VE HAD SEVERAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS STEP UP AND VOLUNTEER WHO ARE OUTSIDE OF OUR BUILDINGS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES TO LET US KNOW WHEN STUDENTS ARE IN THE COMMUNITIES.
IT'S ALL OF OUR RESPONSIBILITIES SO WE APPRECIATE THAT HELP.
PARENTS, PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
IF YOU CAN'T GET YOUR CAMPUS PRINCIPAL OR MAYBE YOU DON'T HAVE A STUDENT WHO'S AT A SCHOOL, YOU CAN CONTACT OUR STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE AND WE WILL GET YOU CONNECTED TO A CAMPUS AND WE WILL WELCOME FOLKS TO COME IN, PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR LUNCH.
PARENTS AND STUDENTS. YOU COULD ALSO YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE MODIFICATIONS IN ENTRANCE PROCEDURES TO THE CAMPUSES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE AFTER SCHOOL, WHO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL AFTER 9:00.
WE WILL ASSIGN SPECIFIC ENTRY ZONES FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PARTICULARLY WHO ARE LATE.
[00:15:01]
SAFE. PARENTS STUDENTS STAFF COMMUNITY I'M SIMPLY ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE AS I RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS OUR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAFE BEFORE SCHOOL, DURING SCHOOL, AFTER SCHOOL, AND BEYOND.THANK YOU CROWLEY ISD FOR ALWAYS, ALWAYS ACTING LIKE A FAMILY AND WORKING LIKE A TEAM.
TOGETHER, WE CAN ENSURE A SMOOTH ENDING TO A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
MCFARLAND. AND I THINK IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING ALL OF US VIEW SAFETY AND SECURITY AS A TOP PRIORITY IN THE DISTRICT, AND MANY OF US AS PARENTS FEEL THE SAME WAY.
SO I KNOW THAT OUR ECHOED THE SAME SENTIMENTS FOR TEACHERS AND STAFF WHO ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ENDING THIS YEAR POSITIVELY AND SAFELY SO THAT WE CAN ALL ENJOY THE SUMMER BREAK.
SO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE EFFORT.
THANK YOU FOR THOSE EXTRA STEPS AND KEEPING US ALL SAFE.
AT THIS TIME I'LL OPEN IT UP TO THE BOARD IF THEY HAVE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS AT THIS TIME.
[4.0 Report Item(s)]
WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR REPORT ITEMS. WE HAVE THE FIRST ONE IS ITEM 4.1, THE QUARTERLY REVIEW DEPARTMENT PRESENTATION FOR STUDENT SERVICES.WE ARE ALSO EXCITED TO RECOGNIZE MR. STAN SWANN, OUR CHIEF OF STUDENT SERVICES, ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR FINE ARTS.
I ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT WE ARE SO THANKFUL AND PROUD OF MR. SWANN AND HIS SERVICE OVER 32 YEARS, I BELIEVE, TO [INAUDIBLE] EDUCATION AND HE HAS PROVIDED GREAT LEADERSHIP.
MR. SWANN WILL BE RETIRING, SO I WANT TO JUST ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AND I SAY RETIRE.
I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE. SO HE'LL BE YOU'LL STILL SEE HIM AROUND.
BUT HE IS RETIRING AND WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
SO LET'S GIVE MR. SWANN A HAND [APPLAUSE].
THANK YOU. MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DR.
AS A PRELUDE TO THE FINE ARTS UPDATE.
WE ACTUALLY HAVE THE NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOLS BAND SHOW CHOIR.
[00:20:50]
[APPLAUSE] APPROPRIATE MOVES.AS YOU CAN TELL, WE STARTED WITH SOMEWHERE AROUND 15,157 STUDENTS ENROLLED.
AT THAT TIME, WE HAD ABOUT 11,760 STUDENTS IN FINE PERFORMING ARTS.
LET'S LOOK AT THE FIFTH MARKING PERIOD.
WE HAD 16,958 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CROWLEY ISD AT THAT TIME.
AS YOU KNOW, GUYS, WE HAVE 12,570 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN FINE ARTS.
NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. STUDENT PARTICIPATION AGAIN IS 12,570 STUDENTS.
THIS YEAR, OUR GOAL WAS TO HIT 10% OF AN INCREASE IN FINE PERFORMING ARTS.
IF YOU LOOK BELOW, YOU'LL SEE WE ACTUALLY GOT VERY, VERY CLOSE, 8.33%.
RAW NUMBERS, GUYS. THAT'S REALLY 967 STUDENTS.
ANOTHER ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE].
NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. NOT ONLY DO WE REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR STUDENT PERFORMERS, BUT WE ALSO THINK ABOUT THOSE WHO ACTUALLY SIT IN THE CHAIRS TO LEAD THAT PARTICULAR GROUP OF STUDENTS. WE KNOW THAT THERE'S ART, BAND, CHEER, CHOIR, DANCE, ELEMENTARY MUSIC, HONOR CHOIR, MARIACHI, THEATER, AND ELEMENTARY UIL A PLUS ACADEMICS.

SHE PROVIDES PROVIDES EXPERIENCE.
SHE PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE PRINCIPALS AND TO THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS IN TERMS OF EVALUATIONS.
SHE'S THE INDIVIDUAL THAT HELPS THIS WHOLE THING GROW.
AND ALSO ON THE 13TH OR THE 17TH, THERE'S GOING TO BE MY ACCLAIMED FINE ARTS CAMP.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THOSE KIDS THERE AS WELL.
[00:25:02]
MIDDLE SCHOOL ART BAND.UIL ACADEMICS. THIS IS WHAT YOU SEE THE CULMINATION OF THESE TABLES RIGHT HERE.
MYSELF, GREG [INAUDIBLE], HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL MR. BROWN, YOU SEE IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT PHOTO RIGHT THERE.
MR. DANFORTH, COULD YOU STAND UP, MR. DANFORTH, PLEASE. [APPLAUSE] ON THAT PARTICULAR MORNING TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT PARTICULAR TEAM KNEW HOW MUCH PURPLE MEANT TO EVERYONE.
THANK YOU, MR. DANFORTH. [INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU, GUYS.
WE THINK OF THE MIGHTY EAGLE BAND.
THESE GUYS DO SUCH A WONDERFUL JOB EVERY SINGLE YEAR TRYING TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT ROUND.
I ALWAYS WANT TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH TO MR. SEWELL. MR. DAKOTA, MR. SAMPLE, MR. SAMPLE, STAND IF YOU'RE HERE [APPLAUSE].
MAYFIELD, BECAUSE I KNOW HER HUSBAND REALLY LIKES JAZZ AND HE KNOWS I LOVE JAZZ.
BONEY JAMES WAS ACTUALLY IN TOWN LAST WEEK.
I MISSED IT, BUT I WANTED TO BE THERE.
SO THANK YOU GUYS FOR MAKING SURE THAT WE GOT PROMPT [INAUDIBLE].
BUT OUR JAZZ ENSEMBLES ARE PHENOMENAL.
SO IF YOU EVER HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY AGAIN, MR. DANFORTH, THE GUY WITH THE WHITE HAIR WITH HIS BACK TO US, HE DID A GREAT JOB.
[INAUDIBLE] NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.
MR. SAMPLE AGAIN, THERE WAS A COMPILATION THAT ACTUALLY OCCURRED BETWEEN HE CERTAINLY AND MRS. GILLIS AS YOU SAW, THEIR MEN'S SHOW CHOIR NOW PERFORM.
I WAS THERE. WE ALSO HAD A CHANCE TO TALK [INAUDIBLE] THERE AS WELL.
NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AS WE THINK ABOUT THIS, I HEARD MR. DAVIS SPEAK ABOUT THIS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.
THOSE GUYS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO GO TO GROVE CITY.
THERE THEY DID VERY, VERY WELL.
AS YOU BEGIN TO MOVE UP INTO DIFFERENT CLASSES, WE STILL DIDN'T SEE A LULL IN THEIR PERFORMANCE.
AND SO, AGAIN, UM, MR. DANFORTH.
CERTAINLY SOME OF THE GUIDANCE OF CHRIS DUNNING AND ALSO MR. CHRISTOPHER SAMPLE. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.
LOOK AT THAT WONDERFUL [INAUDIBLE].
WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO REHEARSE.
ALL RIGHT. I HEAR THE SAME THING.
SO FROM A MYRIAD OF INDIVIDUALS OUT THERE, IF YOU LOOK TO THE RIGHT, YOU LOOK ON THE TOP.
YOU ALSO SEE KATELYN COX IN HER GROUP THERE.
THESE GUYS ACTUALLY SWEEPSTAKES WINNERS.
IF YOU LOOK IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER, YOU'LL ACTUALLY SEE MISS COX AGAIN.
THAT IS HER JAZZ BAND, OKAY? THAT'S JAZZ UNDER THE STARS FOR THE CITY OF CROWLEY.
SO THEY PERFORM ON MANY OCCASIONS TO DO GREAT THINGS.
YES, SIR. WE'LL MAKE IT HAPPEN.
LO AND BEHOLD, THERE IS ACTUALLY A TRIP DOWN TO TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY.
SHE WAS TRYING TO IDENTIFY SOME RANDOM TEACHERS.
SHE RAN ACROSS A PERSON NAMED ARIANA JEFFERSON WHO ACTUALLY HAD A RELATIVE HERE IN TOWN.
MRS. JEFFERSON, CAN YOU STAND? MRS. JEFFERSON [APPLAUSE]. FIRST YEAR, SOMEONE THAT REALLY WANTED TO MAKE A MARK FOR CROWLEY ISD.
[INAUDIBLE] SO GREAT THINGS [INADUIBLE].
[00:30:09]
NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. NOW, WHEN WE THINK IN TERMS OF CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, WE ACTUALLY HAD A PERSON OVER THERE THAT WAS ACTUALLY HITTING THE IDOL.UH, MR. GRAHAM, THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO.
CERTAINLY. I KNOW THAT YOU'VE BEEN ABLE TO LEAN INTO MULTIPLE THINGS CERTAINLY CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, ALONG WITH PARTICIPATING IN OTHER INDIVIDUALS AT OTHER CAMPUSES AND BEING THE ACCOMPANIST. SO THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO THERE [APPLAUSE].
WE HAVE A CHANCE TO GO TO GRANBURY CONCERT SIGHT READING.
RIGHT. AGAIN, WE ACTUALLY HAD [INAUDIBLE].
WE HAVE A LOT OF GREAT PEOPLE AND GREAT MUSICIANS HERE IN TOWN.
NEXT SLIDE. MIDDLE SCHOOL IS ALSO ON ITS WAY UP.
WE ARE ACTUALLY SEEING PEOPLE GROW EVERY SINGLE DAY.
INITIALLY, MRS. BEVERLY HEATH WAS ACTUALLY OVER THE PIANO LAB AT JUNE DAVIS ELEMENTARY.
SHE ACTUALLY MOVED UP NOW TO HF STEVENS.
LAST YEAR, THEY HAD SOMEWHERE AROUND 36 OR SO KIDS ENROLL IN THAT PARTICULAR GROUP THERE.
AS WE LOOKED AT THE TALLIES RECENTLY, THEY HAVE NOW 80 STUDENTS.
SO LET'S THINK ABOUT WHAT THE HIGH SCHOOLS WOULD LOOK LIKE AS THOSE KIDS GROW UP.
SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
NEXT SLIDE. [INAUDIBLE] WHO REMEMBERS HOW COLD IT WAS IN FEBRUARY WHEN WE HAD THE SNOW SNOW TOGETHER? AT THE END OF THAT WEEK, THERE WAS ACTUALLY A COMPETITION IN SALINA, TEXAS.
MR. SWANN, CAN WE GO? MR. BROWN, CAN WE GO? LET'S TRY AND SEE IF WE CAN MAKE IT THERE.
THEY WENT [INAUDIBLE] CHAMPIONS.
I KNOW WOODSON-MAYFIELD DID BECAUSE SHE SAID, MR. SWANN, IS IT OKAY IF I SIT IN THE FRONT ROW? I SAID, YES, MA'AM. PLEASE SIT WHEREVER YOU WANT TO SIT.
THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS THAT ACTUALLY OCCURRED DURING THIS PARTICULAR PIECE RIGHT HERE THAT WAS DONE BY NORTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL'S DANCE PROGRAM UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MISS BRAUN. PLEASE STAND [APPLAUSE].
JUST SO THAT, YOU KNOW, THIS ONE TABLE IS ALL DEDICATED TO MISS BRAUN.
ONE EVENT. OKAY. SO THERE'S A MYRIAD OF THINGS THAT YOU ALREADY HAD PLACED [INAUDIBLE] . NEXT SLIDE. NOW, WE DON'T JUST THINK IN TERMS OF OF HIGH SCHOOL, WE THINK IN TERMS OF VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT.
HEY, THIS IS CROWLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
[INAUDIBLE] HEY, THEY'RE THERE AS WELL.
NEXT SLIDE. NOW, [INAUDIBLE] FESTIVAL IN OCTOBER.
WE HAD A CHANCE TO TAKE A GROUP DOWN THERE FROM HF STEVENS.
IF YOU LOOK IN THE MIDDLE, YOU'LL SEE SOMEONE THAT'S IN THERE, ONE OF YOUR COLLEAGUES THERE.
WE'RE ALL EXCITED ABOUT THAT PIECE RIGHT THERE.
AND MANY OF THE KIDS WHO I SPOKE WITH [INAUDIBLE] SHE SAID, MR. SWANN, ONE OF THEIR FAVORITE THINGS THAT THEY'VE DONE THIS [INAUDIBLE].
SO THANK YOU FOR THAT CELEBRATION.
NEXT SLIDE. THEATER SOMETHING CLOSE TO MY HEART.
52 PIECE SET PYLONS, EIGHT FOOT, FOUR FOOT DOOR WINDOWS UNITS, ALL TYPES OF THINGS.
FRENCH DOOR UNITS. I LOVE THIS PIECE RIGHT HERE BECAUSE I KNOW THAT EVEN THOUGH WE MAY NOT HAVE BROUGHT HOME THAT TROPHY, WE ALSO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO THINGS IN THE TECHNICAL BOOTH. SOUND LIGHTING.
OKAY, HONORABLE MENTION IN TERMS OF ACTING.
SO THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE DO.
NEXT SLIDE. YOU KNOW, WE DON'T ONLY JUST RESIDE IN HIGH SCHOOL.
WE THINK IN TERMS OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THEIR THEATER GROUPS.
LAST WEEK OR SO, WE ACTUALLY HAD A COMPILATION.
SO CMS IS DOING VERY, VERY WELL ALSO IN THEIR FINE ARTS.
AND SO GUYS, IT'S ALL OVER THE DISTRICT.
IT'S SPRINKLED. NEXT SLIDE, VOSS.
THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT WE HAVE CERTAINLY THAT WE ALSO NEED TO PAY HOMAGE TO.
AGAIN, THAT'S GOING TO BE MRS. RUSSELL MRS. [INAUDIBLE]. THOSE GUYS ACTUALLY HAVE DONE SOME GREAT WORK THERE.
AND YOU WILL ACTUALLY HAVE A CHANCE TO SEE THE ACTUAL PIECE OF WORK.
[00:35:03]
IT'S THERE. IT'S CALLED BROKEN.STUDENTS A 10TH GRADE STUDENT, HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE ALL THE WAY TO STATE.
SO THERE'S A LOT OF GREAT THINGS AGAIN, THAT'S HAPPENING HERE.
THAT'S THE YOUNG MAN THERE. WONDERFUL THINGS.
SO THANK YOU GUYS AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
YOU'RE ALWAYS RAISING YOUR HAND WHEN WE CERTAINLY NEED TO SEE KIDS ACTUALLY MOVE TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
WE'RE LOOKING AT TRANSPORTATION.
WE'RE LOOKING AT SERVICE AND SUPPORTS AND SUPPLIES.
THOSE THINGS DO NOT HAVE [INAUDIBLE].
NEXT SLIDE. ACADEMIC UIL HERE WE ALWAYS THINK IN TERMS [INAUDIBLE] CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL, NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL DOES CERTAINLY THE SAME TYPES OF THINGS.
OUR KIDS ALWAYS COME BACK WITH SOME TYPE OF METAL.
MAKING IT INTO STATE OR IN REGIONS.
ALMOST GETTING THE STATE IN PROS.
IN HIGH SCHOOL, I ACTUALLY SANG A SONG CALLED THE VAGABOND BY VAUGHAN WILLIAMS. I HAD A CHANCE TO GO TO STATE AND I HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO THE KIDS AND I SAID, I DID THAT 40 YEARS AGO THIS YEAR.
BUT I ALSO HAVE A CHANCE TO GO TO STATE.
AND FROM THERE IT REALLY CATAPULTED ME [INAUDIBLE] THROUGH FINE PERFORMING ARTS.
IF YOU ARE ANYWHERE AND AGAIN, LAST WEEK YOU SAW ALL THOSE KIDS AT THE UIL A PLUS ACADEMICS.
CROWLEY, FOR BEING HERE AND ACTUALLY SPEAKING LETTING US KNOW WHAT THIS ALL IS ABOUT.
AS YOU KNOW, WE JUST DON'T THINK IN TERMS OF THAT PARTICULAR THING.
THAT DAY KIND OF CATAPULTS US ALSO [INAUDIBLE] AND WE CONSIDER THAT AN INSTRUMENT AS WELL.
WHEN WE THINK IN TERMS OF WHAT HAPPENS IN FAT TUESDAY, WE ACTUALLY HAVE A PERSON HERE FROM LOUISIANA, MR. MCHUGH. MR. MCHUGH ACTUALLY DID A LOT OF THINGS FOR THE DISTRICT DURING A TOUR OF DUTY FOR HIS BOSS, MR. DUNNING. HEY, THIS IS A PART OF THE NATIONAL GUARD.
MR. MCHUGH, COULD YOU PLEASE STAND? [APPLAUSE] SO WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT WE'VE DONE HERE AND WHAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO, CERTAINLY AS A TEAM, CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFY, WE HAVE A CHANCE TO LOOK JUST BEHIND ME AND SEE EVERYONE'S [INAUDIBLE].
THANK YOU [APPLAUSE]. QUESTIONS.
ANY QUESTIONS BOARD OR COMMENTS? SWANN, THE GROUP THAT JUST PERFORMED, WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THAT GROUP AGAIN? IT'S A NORTH CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL MEN'S SHOW CHOIR.
OKAY. AND IS ARE THERE OTHER MEMBERS? AND THAT'S ALL. THEY COULD BE HERE TONIGHT? YES, MA'AM. THAT'S THEIR OTHER MEMBERS.
BUT ACTUALLY THAT IS PART OF A MIXED CHOIR.
SO JUST SOME WONDERFUL THINGS THOSE GUYS HAVE DONE.
NOW, MY COMMENT JUST IN ATTENDING DIFFERENT PERFORMANCES AND HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR STUDENTS SING, ACT, DANCE.
ONE THING THAT I THINK IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT IS THAT AT EACH LEVEL, STARTING AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, WHETHER THEY'RE SINGING, DANCING, WHATEVER IT IS THEY'RE DOING, THERE ARE TECHNIQUES THAT GO ALONG WITH SINGING AND NOT JUST OPENING YOUR MOUTH AND WHATEVER COMES OUT OR OR DANCING AND NOT.
THERE ARE TECHNIQUES THAT GO AT THAT STUDENTS CAN LEARN AT EACH LEVEL.
AND I THINK IT'S CRITICALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE TEACH OUR STUDENTS THE TECHNIQUES.
I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE SPRING SHOW AT HF STEVENS AND THAT IS THE ONE THING I NOTICED.
I CANNOT REMEMBER THE INSTRUCTOR'S NAME, BUT THE STUDENTS WERE DANCING AND THEY WERE AND NOT THAT I'M A DANCER, BUT I KNOW TECHNIQUE WHEN I SEE IT.
AND THEY WERE ACTUALLY EXHIBITING DANCE TECHNIQUES INSTEAD AGAIN OF WHATEVER.
SO I JUST THINK IT'S CRITICALLY IMPORTANT WHEN WHEN AT EACH LEVEL THAT WE HONE THOSE TECHNIQUES AND THOSE SKILLS AT EACH LEVEL, JUST LIKE OUR ACADEMICS, SO THAT WHEN THEY GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL, THEY BUILD ON WHAT THEY ALREADY KNOW.
VICTORIA HACKNEY THAT'S THE INSTRUCTOR.
YES, GREAT JOB ALL AROUND CROWLEY ISD.
[00:40:02]
I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON AND I TELL YOU, I HAVE BEEN MY HEART IS JUST FULL BECAUSE I SEE THE GIFTS THAT THESE CHILDREN AND THE TALENT THAT THESE CHILDREN HAVE.AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE WE HAVE GREAT LEADERSHIP.
AND I JUST WANT LIKE TO THANK EACH OF YOU [APPLAUSE].
I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT TOO, REGARDING THE LEADERSHIP.
I, I CONSIDER MYSELF A THESPIAN AND I TRY TO SING.
MY HUSBAND MAY NOT THINK SO, BUT I DO JAZZ, YOU KNOW? UM, SO, YOU KNOW, AND I LOVE ALL OF IT.
FINE ARTS. I'M A HUGE FAN OF FINE ARTS.
AND ONE THING THAT STICKS OUT TO ME IS HOW INCREDIBLY TALENTED OUR STUDENTS ARE IN THEIR OWN RIGHT.
BUT THE DEDICATION AND, YOU KNOW, WHEN THEY PERFORM OR WHEN THEY PRESENT THEIR ART OR WHEN, YOU KNOW, THEY GO TO THEIR TEACHERS, THEY GO TO THEIR COACHES, THEY GO TO THEIR INSTRUCTORS, AND THEY LOOK FOR THAT VALIDATION.
AND WE HAVE SOME AWESOME, AWESOME LEADERS IN OUR DISTRICT.
THIS IS A CULMINATION OF ALL OF THIS.
BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO ASK, IS THIS JUST FROM THIS YEAR OR IS THIS FROM SEVERAL YEARS OR, YOU KNOW, THIS YEAR? THIS YEAR ALONE? THIS IS INCREDIBLE.
THIS IS LIKE BITTERSWEET, OBVIOUSLY, BUT ALSO TO TAKE THE TIME TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND APPRECIATE YOU FOR YOUR YEARS OF SERVICE.
I FORGET THE NUMBER OF SERVICE UNTIL DR.
AND SO IT'S EVIDENT AND THE OUTCOME OF WHAT WE SEE AND WE LIKE DR.
MCFARLAND SAID THE BEST IS YET TO COME.
THE BEST IS YET TO COME, BUT IT'S A PROUD MOMENT TODAY.
THANK YOU, STUDENTS, IF THEY'RE LISTENING IN, WE APPRECIATE ALL OF WHAT YOU DO FOR THE DISTRICT.
LET'S GIVE THEM ANOTHER ROUND OF APPLAUSE.
[APPLAUSE] I'D BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING FIRST TO YOU, MR. SWANN I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR THIS DISTRICT, AND ESPECIALLY THE FINE ARTS AND ALL THREE OF MY GIRLS GOING THROUGH BAND.
WE GOT TO SEE EACH OTHER A LOT ON SATURDAYS AND SO ON AND SO FORTH.
BUT I ALWAYS ENJOYED FINE ARTS AND MISS RUSSELL AND I WERE TALKING AND SHE SAID, YOU ALWAYS REMEMBER THE ART TEACHERS.
AND NOT ONLY DO I REMEMBER MR. PALMER AT GREENBRIER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, BUT I ALSO REMEMBER MISS BENNETT AT WEST CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
AND THOSE TWO PEOPLE WERE JUST OBVIOUSLY MAKE ME WHO I AM TODAY.
AND THEN, YOU KNOW, MY MY BAND TEACHERS AT SOUTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL, Y'ALL ARE A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE.
AND IT'S TOUGH, BUT Y'ALL ALWAYS HAVE A SMILE ON YOUR FACE.
YOU ALWAYS WORK HARD FOR OUR KIDS AND WE APPRECIATE YOU.
WAIT MY TURN. SO TO GARY'S POINT AND ALSO FOR LA TONYA.
I'M OUT OF PRACTICE. I MISSED THE MEETING.
AND I WAS ALSO A THESPIAN, RIGHT, GROWING UP.
AND IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR TEACHERS, AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT MY THEATER TEACHERS WERE THE PEOPLE WHO MADE HIGH SCHOOL ALL THAT IT WAS. I MET A LOT OF GREAT PEOPLE.
AND SO THE WORK THAT YOU DO HAS TREMENDOUS IMPACT.
AND BEING IN EDUCATION WE ALWAYS THINK ABOUT CORE TEACHERS AND ELECTIVE TEACHERS, BUT I'M TELLING YOU, THAT FINE ARTS PROGRAM REALLY DOES HELP OUR STUDENTS FIND THEIR PATH. AND TO YOU, STAN, YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN SUCH A WELCOMING FACE FOR ME WHEN I JOINED THIS BOARD,
[00:45:01]
ALMOST, MY GOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT EIGHT YEARS AGO.AND YOU ALWAYS WORK HARD AND YOU'RE ALWAYS POSITIVE AND YOU'RE ALWAYS ENCOURAGING AND YOU'RE ALWAYS JUST VERY HUMBLE ABOUT THE WORK THAT YOU DO AND THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF YOUR TEAM AND YOUR STUDENTS.
SO TO YOU, I WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS.
YOU'RE REACHING THE FINISH LINE FOR I'M CHASING YOU.
I HOPE TO RETIRE ONE DAY MYSELF, AND THE BEST IS YET TO COME.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO CROWLEY.
THANK YOU FOR THE LEGACY THAT YOU'VE LED AND THAT YOU'LL LEAVE.
YOU WON'T BE A STRANGER BECAUSE WE NEVER LET ANYBODY GO.
BUT WE KNOW THERE'S A COMMITTEE SOMEWHERE FOR YOU [LAUGHTER].
BUT I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST, MY FRIEND.
AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE AND CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL AS WELL.
THIS IS REALLY ENCOURAGING AND INSPIRING TO ME.
AS I WAS AN ACTOR, I WASN'T AS REFINED AS THESE TWO LADIES AS THESPIANS [LAUGHTER].
BUT I WAS AN ACTOR AND AND A MUSICIAN AND DRUM MAJOR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS.
AND I AM JUST TREMENDOUSLY ENCOURAGED AND REALLY JUST BLESSED TO SEE HOW WE PRIORITIZE THE FINE ARTS HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
USUALLY WHEN THERE ARE BUDGET CUTS IN EDUCATION, ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS THAT BEGINS TO TO SUFFER ARE YOUR FINE ARTS PROGRAMS. AND I THINK THAT THAT IS A DISSERVICE TO OUR STUDENTS WHEN SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS BEGIN TO DO THAT BECAUSE WE WERE WE ARE PROCREATORS.
AND SO NO MATTER NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF ART OR ABILITIES THAT AN INDIVIDUAL HAS AS IT PERTAINS TO FINE ARTS, I THINK THAT IS JUST AN INNATE PART OF WHO WE ARE.
AND SO WE CONTINUE, I THINK, TO DO WHAT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR STUDENTS BY GIVING THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES AND TO BE CREATIVE AGAIN, WHICH IS A PART OF OUR HUMAN NATURE. SO JUST AS A DISTRICT, I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD BE PROUD OF AND SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD DEFINITELY TAKE PRIDE IN.
TO YOU, MR. SWANN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR YEARS OF SERVICE.
UM, I BELIEVE THAT LEADERSHIP, UH, OR, OR THE CULTURE OF A TEAM IS A REFLECTION OF THE LEADER.
AND WHAT WE SEE JUST MANIFESTED HERE, I BELIEVE, IS, IS A TESTAMENT TO YOUR LEADERSHIP.
YOU HAVE AN AMAZING TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS, AND CERTAINLY WE ARE GRATEFUL TO YOU ALL, NOT JUST FOR BRINGING YOUR CREATIVE NATURE TO CROWLEY ISD, BUT ALSO SUBMITTING THAT TO A GREAT LEADER. AND SO AGAIN, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I BELIEVE THAT WE AS A DISTRICT SHOULD TAKE SO MUCH PRIDE IN, JUST BECAUSE IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS.
AND I BELIEVE THIS HELPS THEM BE ALL THAT GOD CREATED THEM TO BE.
THANK YOUR TEAM. AND THIS IS CERTAINLY A DEMONSTRATION OF CROWLEY PRIDE UNIFIED [APPLAUSE].
SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, I JUST LIKE TO AGAIN JUST THANK ALL THE FINE ARTS INSTRUCTORS FOR ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU'VE DONE, ALL THE NUMBERS OF HOURS THAT YOU SPEND. YOU KNOW, WE DON'T SEE AND WE SEE THE END PRODUCT THAT YOU DO THE WORK.
AND I PASS BY HALL CROWLEY OFTEN AND SEE THE LIGHTS ON IN THE PARKING LOT.
AND I KNOW THERE ARE KIDS AT WORK, SO I APPRECIATE YOU ALL FOR FOR THE EXTRA.
ALSO WANT TO JUST, JUST ADDRESS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.
I WANT TO TALK ABOUT PROPOSITION C.
AND, YOU KNOW, MY GRANDMOTHER WOULD ALWAYS TELL ME THAT IF IT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU, YOU'LL FIND A WAY.
AND IF IT'S NOT IMPORTANT, YOU'LL FIND AN EXCUSE.
AND SO WHAT I'M TELLING THE FINE ARTS INSTRUCTORS THAT I'LL BE MEETING NEXT WEEK WITH A COUPLE OF THE DIRECTORS, AND THEN I'LL MEET WITH ALL OF THE FINE ARTS INSTRUCTORS THE WEEK AFTER THAT.
AND WHAT WE'LL DO IS WE WILL KIND OF IDENTIFY SPECIFICALLY WHAT OUR FACILITY NEEDS ARE.
THAT'S MY COMMITMENT TO OUR KIDS DESERVE THE BEST.
AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DO IT BECAUSE IT IS IT IS IMPORTANT TO US.
I WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW THAT AS WELL [APPLAUSE].
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. SWANN.
[00:50:02]
AND AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS.MR. KIRCHNER HAS INSTRUCTIONS FOR US.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A PICTURE. SO TRUSTEES, IF YOU ALL WOULD STAND UP IN YOUR SPOTS AND ALL OF OUR DIRECTORS AND INSTRUCTORS ANYONE FINE ARTS TEAM, IF YOU ALL COME UP, WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF GATHER AROUND THE TROPHIES AND GET [INAUDIBLE].
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. WE LIKE TO SHAKE YOUR HANDS, Y'ALL.
ALL RIGHT. WE ARE AT AGENDA ITEM 4.2.
THE SUMMER LEARNING PREVIEW DR.
MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE'RE DEFINITELY EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD THIS NEXT ITEM.

[01:00:02]
WE DO HAVE OUR SUMMER SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS HERE IN THE CROWD, AND I WOULD LIKE THEM TO STAND UP WHEN I SAY THEIR NAME.WE HAVE MISS NYVA LEVINE [APPLAUSE].
AND THAT'S FOR OUR ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS. FOR OUR BILINGUAL ESL PROGRAMS, WE HAVE MISS TERRION OR MR. TERRION LOCKRIDGE [APPLAUSE]. OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS WE HAD MS. QUENTELLA KNOX [APPLAUSE]. FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT RECOVERY AND ORIGINAL CREDIT PROGRAMS MR. JAREEM WILLIAMS AND MS. JESSICA PAYNE, WHO WERE NOT HERE THIS EVENING.
WE HAVE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS DR.
DANIELLE KNOX-JOHNSON [APPLAUSE].
AND FOR OUR BRJ CTE PROGRAMS MR. MARKEITH WEST [INAUDIBLE].
ALL RIGHT. SO AS YOU CAN TELL, WE HAVE A VERY BUSY MONTH OF JUNE AHEAD OF US.
I'M EXCITED TO SEE THESE PROGRAMS AND WHAT WE HAVE IN STORE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
I'M GOING TO NOW TAKE ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I HAVE A QUESTION. SO HAVE THE CHILDREN OR PARENTS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE CHILDREN THAT ARE GOING TO BE GOING TO CAMP THIS YEAR, OR IS IT OPEN TO WHICH CAMPUSES ARE OPEN TO ANYONE AND WHICH CAMPUSES ARE MANDATORY FOR STUDENTS TO ATTEND? YES, MA'AM. SO THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE THERE.
THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME. AND THAT WAS MY COMMENT ACTUALLY ABOUT THE WEBSITE.
I USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A SEDATIVE, AND SO LAST NIGHT I WAS I WAS TRYING TO TIRE MYSELF OUT AND I CAME ACROSS A COMMENT AND SOMEONE'S ASKING ABOUT SUMMER ENRICHMENT AND THEY WERE LIKE, WHERE DO YOU ALL FIND OUT ABOUT SUMMER ENRICHMENT? AND SOMEONE ANSWERED THAT FOR THEM.
AND IF THEY GO TO THE WEBSITE.
SO OF COURSE I WENT TO THE WEBSITE.
AND SO I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRODUCTIVITY AND MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE ALL THOSE OPPORTUNITIES THERE AND PROVIDING ALL OF THAT INFORMATION SO THAT OUR FAMILIES KNOW WHERE THINGS BEGIN, KNOW HOW TO GET ENROLLED, KNOW WHERE THE TRANSPORTATION MEALS AND ALL THOSE GREAT THINGS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
ALL RIGHT. WE'RE AT OUR OPEN FORUM.
AND SO I'LL ASK MR. KERSHNER IF WE HAVE ANY SPEAKERS FOR TONIGHT.
MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.
MCFARLAND, WE DID HAVE ONE INDIVIDUAL SIGN UP.
[Additional Item ]
MCFARLAND. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, I JUST HAVE ONE SPECIAL RECOGNITION I'D LIKE TO MAKE BEFORE WE MOVE FORWARD.AND SO I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE MR. NICHOLAS KEITH, IF YOU WILL STAND.
MR. KEITH, HE'S SURPRISED, I GUESS.
BUT I DON'T THINK I TOLD YOU THIS.
A SECOND SURPRISE. SO I JUST WANT TO JUST REALLY JUST KIND OF JUST SHARE JUST A COUPLE WORDS ABOUT MR. KEITH. MISTER KEITH, MANY OF YOU KNOW, HAS RECEIVED A PROMOTION TO JOIN THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.
AND JUST A HE'S A GIFTED LEADER.
WE ALL KNOW THAT HE IS AN OBSESSIVE LEARNER.
ABSOLUTELY. WE ALL KNOW THAT AS WELL.
BUT BETTER THAN THAT, HE JUST HE'S A GREAT PERSON.
AND WE EXPECT MANY GRANTS COMING FROM TO.
SURPRISE. I FEEL LIKE I'VE LIVED MY LAST SIX YEARS UP AT THIS PODIUM IN THE ONE IN THE OLD.
IT SHOULD BE MORE COMFORTABLE RIGHT NOW.
[01:05:01]
YEAH, THIS IS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED.MCFARLAND. MADAM PRESIDENT AND BOARD.
I THINK IT'S 100% FAIR TO SAY THAT WHAT THIS OPPORTUNITY IS, IS IT'S A RECOGNITION OF CROWLEY ISD BECAUSE WHEN THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY HAS MADE MULTIPLE VISITS TO SEE THE WORK THAT THE TEAM HAS DONE RIGHT, TO SEE THE WORK THAT THE CAMPUS HAS DONE, TO SEE THE WORK THAT OUR PRINCIPALS AND OUR TEACHERS HAVE DONE, THEY'VE SEEN OUR STUDENTS PERFORMANCE.
AND SO WHEN THEY THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT TO SCALE ACROSS THE STATE WHEN IT COMES TO CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION, IT'S ABOUT CROWLEY, LIKE IT'S ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE SEEING HAPPENING IN OUR SCHOOLS.
AND THAT'S ONLY POSSIBLE WITH YOUR SUPPORT AND JUST APPLAUD THAT 100% SUPPORTS VISION.
AND WE'RE GOING TO FIND A WAY TO MOVE FORWARD.
AND FOR US, IT'S BEEN OUR INVESTMENT IN HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS AND HIGH QUALITY TRAINING.
THAT'S JUST A PART OF THAT STRATEGY.
AND NOW WE JUST GET TO DO IT AT SCALE FOR MORE FOLKS.
SO I APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT, I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY, THE LEADERSHIP AND THE MENTORSHIP.
AND I WILL NEVER BE FAR AWAY FOR SURE.
I ALWAYS WANT TO CALL MY MY EMPLOYER AND SAY, WHAT ABOUT THAT TOASTMASTERS CLASS? AND BECAUSE YOU PRESENT SO WELL BUT, BUT, BUT WHAT YOU PRESENT IS HIGH QUALITY AND REALLY LEARNING FROM YOU BEING A MODEL FOR THAT, IT'S EXEMPLARY.
SO IT'S NO WONDER THAT YOU WERE TAPPED FOR THIS ROLE AND WISH YOU THE BEST.
CONGRATULATIONS. I AM THANKFUL TO DR.
MCFARLAND FOR SAYING ABOUT THE GRANTS CONTINUE TO BE A CHEERLEADER FOR FOR CROWLEY ISD, BUT WE THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE AND RAISING US OR HELPING US TO GET TO THIS LEVEL OF SUCCESS THAT WE'RE EXPERIENCING.
FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS.
MR. KEITH, I HAD SHARED WITH YOU OFFLINE ABOUT HOW I FEEL ABOUT YOUR WORK HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
UM, IT HAS BEEN SECOND TO NONE.
UM, AND I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT AND THEN I WANT TO MAKE A COMMENT.
MCFARLAND DEFENSE HE TELLS EVERY SITE IS YOU CAN TAKE THE IDEAS BUT NOT THE PEOPLE.
GO AHEAD. OH, I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO.
I SEE. NO. I KNOW WHERE THE BUTTON IS.
WOW. SO MY COMMENTS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THAT OF AS WOODSON-MAYFIELD.
YOU KNOW, YOU AS A COLLEAGUE GIVE US YOU GIVE ME SO MUCH TO ASPIRE TO.
AND SO THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERTISE WITH US.
AND AND I, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT YOU I DIDN'T KNOW ALL THE THINGS THAT DR.
MCFARLAND SAID ABOUT YOU BEING, YOU KNOW, SO PROMINENT IN YOUR LEARNING.
BUT I KNEW THAT YOU WERE REALLY, REALLY SMART.
AND I KNEW THAT YOU WORKED HARD JUST BECAUSE OF THE KNOWLEDGE.
AND YOU ALWAYS SEEM SO COOL WHENEVER YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT EVERYTHING.
SO I FIGURED YOU JUST KNEW A LOT.
UM, BUT I'M PROUD OF YOU, TOO.
SO CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS NEXT CHAPTER AND OPPORTUNITY.
WE DO EXPECT LOTS OF MANNA TO FALL FROM TEA HEAVENS, SO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THAT.
BUT THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK.
THANK YOU FOR LEAVING HUGE SHOES TO FILL.
AND WE'LL CALL YOU WHEN WE REACH THAT A.
COME BACK AND CELEBRATE ONE MORE, MR. JAMES BOND. I MEAN, MR. KEITH.
BECAUSE YOU ARE SO SMOOTH WITH EVERYTHING.
AND WHEN I FIRST MET YOU, I THOUGHT, OH, HE'S SO SWEET, HE'S SO KIND, AND HE'S JUST MR. JAMES BOND. BUT ANYWAY, I GREATLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU'VE DONE FOR THE DISTRICT.
AND, UM, I MEAN, THEY HAVE TAKEN ONE OF THE BEST FROM CROWLEY ISD, AND I KNOW YOU WILL DO WELL.
[01:10:02]
WE WISH YOU WELL.AND AGAIN, I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU'VE DONE FOR THE DISTRICT.
EVERYTHING THAT EVERYONE HAS SAID.
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. HEATH. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.
[6.0 Future Action Item(s)]
ALL RIGHT. WE'RE AT OUR FUTURE ACTION ITEM 6.1, WHICH IS A FINANCE UPDATE.DR. MCFARLAND MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD MEMBERS, WE HAVE HAD A SERIES OF FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETINGS.
DR. MCFARLAND. GOOD EVENING, MADAM BOARD PRESIDENT, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW, MR. BOND, BUT I'LL DO MY BEST.
A WONDERFUL WORK THAT THE FINANCE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN DOING.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON THESE BECAUSE THESE PRINCIPLES HELP US TO MAKE AND LEAD US THROUGH ALL OF THE DECISIONS THAT WE MAKE WITH REGARD TO THE DISTRICT'S FINANCES.
NUMBER ONE, WE TAKE A VERY CONSERVATIVE APPROACH TO REVENUE GENERATION.
WE JUST GOT OUR [INAUDIBLE] VALUATIONS BACK HERE JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO, PRELIMINARY, AND THEY CAME IN AT ABOUT $12.6 MILLION. WE TAKE AN AGGRESSIVE APPROACH TO OUR EXPENSE DRIVERS, TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH OUR EXPENSE DRIVER.
WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE WHEN WE'RE ESTIMATING WHAT OUR VACANT POSITIONS ARE GOING TO BE BUDGETED AT? WE MAKE SURE THAT WE BUDGET THOSE POSITIONS AT A RATE WHERE WE MIGHT THINK WE HAVE INCOMING PEOPLE COMING IN TO FILL THOSE JOBS.
WE ARE A STUDENT CENTRIC STUDENT AND CLASSROOM CENTRIC BUDGET MANAGEMENT MODEL.
WE USE A GRAPHIC THAT HAS A TARGET MS. DAVIS, THE INSIDE THE MIDDLE OF THAT TARGET IS FUNCTION 11 INSTRUCTIONAL AND INSTRUCTIONAL RELATED EXPENDITURES.
WE CONNECT THE EXPENSE DRIVERS TO THE REVENUE GENERATORS.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE, EXCUSE ME, PROTECT OUR FUND BALANCE FOR A RAINY DAY.
OUR TARGETS ARE ABOUT THE FLOOR IS ABOUT 17%.
BUT THERE'S A DELICATE LINE THERE BECAUSE WHAT WE KNOW IS WE WANT THE CURRENT STUDENT AND THE TAXPAYERS TO RECEIVE THE BENEFITS FROM THOSE INVESTMENTS IN THE CURRENT YEAR AS WELL.
AND SO I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT JUST BRIEFLY SOME OF THE LEGISLATIVE CONSIDERATIONS.
RIGHT? AND SO I WANTED TO WALK THROUGH A COUPLE OF THE BILLS THAT ARE ON THE TABLE RIGHT NOW THAT IMPACT CROWLEY, OK AND ALL OF THE OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE. HOUSE BILL ONE, WE'VE HEARD A LOT OF CONVERSATION ABOUT INCREASING THE FUNDING FROM AN AVERAGE I'M SORRY, THE PER PUPIL FUNDING, THE BASIC ALLOTMENT, IF YOU WILL, FROM 61 TO 60 $6160 TO $6210.
[01:15:07]
7325. HOUSE BILL 100 PURPORTS TO INCREASE THE BASIC ALLOTMENT BY $90 PER STUDENT.BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY OR EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT, I SHOULD SAY, IT ATTEMPTS TO CREATE A MECHANISM THAT ADJUSTS THE BASIC ALLOTMENT FOR INFLATION.
AND DR. MCFARLAND SHARED SOME INITIAL RUNS WITH US AND HOW IT MIGHT IMPACT CROWLEY ISED TO THE TO THE TUNE OF APPROXIMATELY $3.3 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL REVENUE.
WE'VE HEARD A LOT OF CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS, AND I USE THAT WORD UNCERTAINTY.
THIS IS RELATIVE TO THEY CALL IT EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNTS.
AND WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT THERE'S A CAP ON THAT SPENDING AMOUNT.
SENATE BILL THREE WILL INCREASE THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FROM $40,000 TO $70,000, AND SENIOR CITIZENS 65 AND OVER WOULD ACTUALLY GET AN ADDITIONAL EXEMPTION OF ONE.
THE LAST BILL I WANT TO JUST FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION ON IS THE SENATE BILL 1814.
AND THIS BILL WILL REQUIRE DISTRICTS TO SET THAT TAX RATE.
WE TALKED ABOUT THE TWO COMPONENTS OF OUR TAX RATE, NO INS, INS BEING THE DEBT SERVICE TAX RATE.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? ALL RIGHT, NEXT SLIDE, THEN. AND SO OUR BUDGET OBJECTIVE, OUR FINANCE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN WORKING WITH MEMBERS OF THE DISTRICT TEAM.
AND WHAT WE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT IS THE BUDGET OBJECTIVE.
AND WHAT WE KNOW IS WHEN WE BUDGET THE BUDGET PROCESS BECAUSE WE HAVE A JUNE 30TH YEAR END, WE ARE ACTUALLY ESTIMATING ALL OF THE PRIMARY, THE MAJOR INPUT VARIABLES, THE FINAL ASSESSED TAX VALUES.
WE DON'T REALLY GET THOSE UNTIL JULY.
WE WILL HAVE APPROVED THE BOARD.
BY THAT I MEAN THE BUDGET, THE TAX RATE.
WE WON'T SET THE TAX RATE UNTIL AUGUST.
WE WILL APPROVE THE BUDGET BY THIS.
AND OBVIOUSLY STUDENT ENROLLMENT, THAT IS A LESSON REALLY ALL THE WAY UP UNTIL OCTOBER.
AND IT'S DYNAMIC. IT CHANGES EVERY DAY.
THERE'S BEEN A THOUGHTFUL PROCESS, SOME DECISIONS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE BETWEEN THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THE BOARD, ALL OF THE STAKEHOLDERS OF THE DISTRICT, TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR BUDGETING, OUR FUNDING ALIGNS WITH THE MISSION OF THE DISTRICT, THE VISION OR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES, AND ULTIMATELY MEETS THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS. AND SO WE HAVE A GRAPHIC ON THIS NEXT PAGE.
I'LL TALK ABOUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ASSET IN OUR DISTRICT.
NOT SHOWING UP ON A BALANCE SHEET COMES TO WORK EVERY DAY AT ABOUT SEVEN 730 AND LEAVES THE STACEY.
WE DON'T WE DON'T LEAVE UNTIL LATER ON IN THE EVENING.
BUT ANYWAY, THAT THAT ASSET IS OUR PEOPLE.
AND SO WE WANT TO DISCUSS SOME OF THE 2023, 2024 COMPENSATION TARGETS THAT ARE REALLY OF GREAT IMPORTANCE EVERY YEAR.
BUT SPECIFICALLY WE'VE BEEN CHARGED WITH MAKING SURE THAT WE ADDRESS INDEED THE COMPENSATION FOR SOME OF THE DISTRICT'S LOWER PAID EMPLOYEES.
AND SO RIGHT HERE AT THE AT THE CENTER OF THE TARGET, YOU SEE THAT THE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN CONTEMPLATING THE..
THE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN CONTEMPLATING RAISING ALL OF OUR HOURLY PARAPROFESSIONALS AND AUXILIARY STAFF UP TO $15 AN HOUR. OKAY.
[01:20:02]
THE NEXT THING THAT WE WANT TO DO, IF YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE GREEN RING OF THE CIRCLE, AGAIN, WE TALKED ABOUT PROTECTING OUR FUND BALANCE.WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR TEACHERS ARE PAID AND WE ARE THE TOP TEN.
WE ARE THE TOP TEN IN EVERY CATEGORY OF TENURE FOR TEACHERS IN OUR SCHOOLS.
AND SO WHAT WE'VE HAD CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOW DO WE GET THERE, RIGHT? AND SO WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS AND SOME AUXILIARY STAFF, THEY THEY'RE CURRENTLY EARNING WAGES AT A RATE OF ABOUT $12.19 PER HOUR TO $33 PER HOUR.
ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 273 EMPLOYEES THAT ACTUALLY EARN LESS THAN $15 AN HOUR.
FIRST, THOSE 273 EMPLOYEES TO $15 AN HOUR.
WHAT WE'VE DONE IS ESTIMATED A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $682,000 TO DO THAT.
UM, THE AVERAGE HOURLY RATE FOR THOSE EMPLOYEES IS ABOUT $13.27 PER HOUR.
AND WHAT WE DID IS WE TOOK THAT AVERAGE HOURLY RATE OF WHAT WE DID WAS WE SAID, HOW DOES THAT COMPARE TO $15 AN HOUR? BECAUSE WHAT WE ALSO WANT TO DO IS MAKE SURE THAT WE ADDRESS OTHER EMPLOYEES FROM AN EQUITY PERSPECTIVE.
AND SO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN $15 AN HOUR AND THE $13.27 AN HOUR IS APPROXIMATELY APPROXIMATELY IS $1.73, WHICH IS ABOUT A 13%.
SO WHAT YOU SEE WITH THE EQUITY ADJUSTMENT IS THAT THOSE EMPLOYEES THAT WERE MAKING GREATER THAN $15 AN HOUR, WE ARE PROPOSING WE WILL BE CONTEMPLATING AND BRINGING BACK FOR THE BOARD TO REVIEW A POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE THAT WOULD PAY THOSE EMPLOYEES A 13% INCREASE ON THEIR HOURLY RATE.
WE'VE CALCULATED THAT COST TRUSTEE DAVIS TO BE ABOUT $1.2 MILLION, ABOUT 1.8, WELL, REALLY ABOUT 1.9 ALTOGETHER FOR BOTH SCENARIO A AND B.
ALL RIGHT, THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS RELATIVE TO THIS ITEM? SO I HAD A QUESTION REGARDING THE $15 AN HOUR.
ARE THEY ONLY PAID FROM AUGUST TO JUNE OR ARE THEY ON A SCHEDULE? SO IS THIS A 12 MONTH CONTRACT? GREAT QUESTION. TRUSTEE STEPHENSON.
MANY OF THE PROFESSIONALS HAVE DIFFERING CALENDARS.
SOME OF THEM HAVE 187 DAY CALENDARS, SOME HAVE 197 DAY CALENDARS.
AND I BELIEVE THE OTHER GROUP IS 217.
THEY GET THEIR PAYCHECKS OVER TO OVER.
UM, GOING BACK TO THE STUDENT CLASSROOM CENTRIC BUDGET MODEL.
YES, MA'AM. THAT YOU MENTIONED.
UM, WOULD YOU EXPLAIN THAT AGAIN? YES, MA'AM. AND IF I DON'T TOUCH ALL THE POINTS YOU GAVE MRS DAVIS.
I KNOW YOU'RE TELLING ME, AND I UNDERSTAND IT, BUT IT BROUGHT UP ANOTHER QUESTION FOR ME.
SO. SO, MISS DAVIS, WHEN WE WHEN WE SAY A STUDENT CENTRIC CLASSROOM BUDGET OR A STUDENT CENTRIC BUDGET MODEL, WHAT WE SIMPLY MEAN IS THAT AS WE AS WE RECEIVE ADDITIONAL FUNDS OVER AND BEYOND WHAT OUR NORMAL, NORMAL BUDGET IS, WE SPEND THAT MONEY AS CLOSE TO THE CLASSROOM AS POSSIBLE.
THE IDEA IS TO SPEND IT IN THE CLASSROOM.
OKAY. AND SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, I THINK AND I MAY BE WRONG, BUT WE STARTED
[01:25:10]
LISTING GOALS FOR EACH REPORT THAT'S DONE IT, THAT IS TO HELP US REMEMBER SO THAT WE DON'T FORGET THAT WE WANT TO KEEP THE MONEY AS CLOSE TO THE THE STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE.THAT IS CORRECT. AND WE ACTUALLY WHEN YOU LOOK AT THAT GRAPHIC, WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT OUR BUDGET, WE COULD ACTUALLY TAKE THE NUMBERS AND ACTUALLY ASSIGN THEM TO TO THE DIFFERENT LEVELS ON THAT TARGET TO SHOW HOW MUCH WE'RE SPENDING IN THE CLASSROOM, HOW MUCH WE'RE SPENDING IN SUPPORT OF THE CLASSROOM AND HOW MUCH WE'RE SPENDING ON THE EXTERIOR SIDE, WHICH MAY NOT BE CONNECTED TO BLOUNT.
THANK YOU. I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION, BUT I DO JUST WANT TO SAY, MR. FISHER, GREAT PRESENTATION.
THANK YOU. AND TO THE ENTIRE FINANCE TEAM, UNDERSTANDING PUBLIC SCHOOL FINANCE IS IS LIKE DRINKING THROUGH A FIRE HOSE. AND THERE ARE SO MANY MRS. ADRIAN'S LIKE I MEAN, THERE ARE SO MANY COMPONENTS TO, UM, TO SCHOOL FINANCE, PERIOD.
HOWEVER, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT TO US, MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE PROVIDING, UM, LIVABLE WAGES AND FAIR COMPENSATION TO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES.
AND SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY TO YOU ALL, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I KNOW THAT THIS IS A MAJOR UNDERTAKING.
IT IS A MAJOR MENTAL INVESTMENT TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THIS WORK IN LIGHT OF, UM, STATE FUNDING AND PROPERTY TAXES AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS, THE VARIOUS REVENUE STREAMS AS WELL AS ALL OF THE VARIOUS EXPENSES THAT WE HAVE WHILE ALSO TRYING TO REMAIN FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE AND KEEP A HEALTHY FUND BALANCE AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS. IT REALLY IS, UM, A MAJOR INVESTMENT IN TIME AND BRAINPOWER AND EFFORT.
AND SO TO SEE THE PROPOSALS COME TOGETHER, UM, I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS AND REALLY ENCOURAGED JUST ABOUT WHAT IT IS THAT WE POTENTIALLY WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO FOR THOSE WHO INVEST THEIR TIME AND THEIR TALENTS HERE IN CRANDALL ISD.
SO THANK YOU ALL. THANK YOU SO.
THANK YOU, MR. FISHER. I DID DEFINITELY ECHO.
I DO ECHO TRUSTEE DAVIS SENTIMENTS.
I DID HAVE A CLARIFYING QUESTION JUST BECAUSE I KNOW AND HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS IS THE BLANKET EQUITY MOVE TO GET US TO THIS, TO GET US TO THE HOURLY WAGE AT THE $15 IN THE PROGRAM CAN COME UP.
SO I'M LOOKING ON THEIR THEIR SLIDES.
SO THEN WE START TO LOOK AT ARE THERE ANY OTHER CRITERIA THAT A PERSON'S SALARY CAN BE INCREASED AS A PARENT OR IS IT JUST BLANKET EVERYONE GET THIS AND THEN THERE'S NOT A PHASE TWO.
WE'RE LOOKING AT ANOTHER LEVEL OF INCREASE.
AND WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS WE AGAIN, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE, YOU KNOW, MANY OF THE THE PARAPROFESSIONALS THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT, SOME OF THEM ARE IN THE CLASSROOM.
AND SO AS WE TALK ABOUT THE STUDENT CENTRIC, CLASSROOM CENTRIC MODEL, WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT THOSE PEOPLE THAT ARE DOING JUSTICE OR GIVING OUR SERVICE TO OUR STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM, THAT WE ARE COMPENSATING THEM APPROPRIATELY.
OKAY. SO THIS IS JUST BASED ON.
OKAY. SO WHEN WE SAY PHASE ONE, BECAUSE ONCE THIS HAPPENS, IT BECOMES A PART OF THEIR SALARY.
YES. RIGHT. SO THAT NEXT YEAR, IF THERE IS A RAISE GIVEN IT'S BASED ON THE RAISE THEY RECEIVE.
SO WHAT WHAT IS PHASE TWO GOING TO LOOK LIKE? SO, YEAH, NO, THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
SO PHASE ONE WAS TO GET EVERYONE UP TO $15 AN HOUR.
PHASE TWO IS TO IS TO DETERMINE WHETHER WE WANT TO DIFFERENTIATE HOW WE PAY THE THE, THE PARENTS BASED ON WHETHER THEY'RE IN THE CLASSROOM VERSUS IN AN OFFICE VERSUS, YOU KNOW, SO WE WE HAVE IT.
AND QUITE FRANKLY, WE WILL PROBABLY BEGIN TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS AFTER THIS YEAR'S BUDGET.
AND SO IN THE FUTURE, WE'LL LOOK AT HOW WE DIFFERENTIATE.
[01:30:07]
COMPENSATION DONE FIRST.THE NEXT THE NEXT IS TO LOOK AT TEACHER SALARIES AND THEN BEGIN TO LOOK AT HOW WE COULD MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO TEACHER SALARIES WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF OUR BUDGET AND STILL MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE REWARDING THEM.
SO IT WOULD BE AN INSTRUCTIONAL PARA.
INSTRUCTIONAL PARA VERSUS NON INSTRUCTIONAL.
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. FISHER.
THANK YOU, MA'AM. AT THIS TIME.
[7.0 Executive Session]
