AND HERE AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL, SERVING CAMPUSES ACROSS CROWLEY ISD AND THE CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT, THE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE ON DISPLAY WITH MISS NATASHA JOHNSON. MISS LA TONYA ROBINSON.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, MISS KENDALL CARR.
SO, THESE ARE SOME OF THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST LEADERS THAT WE WERE ABLE TO BRING INTO CROWLEY ISD.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE THEM GET TO WORK.
AND LIKE I SAID, THEY'RE ALREADY HARD AT WORK GETTING READY FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR.
SO, TRUSTEES, IT'S WITH GREAT EXCITEMENT.
WE INTRODUCE THESE NEW ADMINISTRATORS TO YOU ALL.
THANK YOU, TRUSTEES AGAIN FOR THAT OPPORTUNITY.
OUR NEXT RECOGNITION ITEM, ITEM 3.1 OUR SOLAR CAR CHALLENGE COMPETITORS, THE SOLAR EAGLES.
IT'S BEEN ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO SINCE YOU LAST HEARD AT THIS LEVEL.
BOARD MEETING. FROM CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR, MR. JAMES SCHROEDER. WE WERE BACK AT PEACH STREET, AND HE WAS TALKING ABOUT A GRANT THAT THE DISTRICT HAD RECEIVED TO MAKE THIS SOLAR CAR PROGRAM POSSIBLE, AND IT IS POSSIBLE THEY HAVE BUILT IT, THEY HAVE COMPETED, AND THEY HAVE BROUGHT HOME SOME GREAT TROPHIES.
AND SO AFTER COMPETING AT THE TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, THE DTM'S OR THE BIG RACE CARS, ARE THEY COMPETED AND WERE EXCITED TO SHOWCASE THEIR HARD WORK. AND LET MR. SCHROEDER TELL YOU ABOUT THIS PHENOMENAL PROGRAM THAT'S BRINGING REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE TO THE STUDENTS OF CROWLEY ISD.
SO WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO INTRODUCE MR. JAMES SCHROEDER AND MEMBERS OF THE SOLAR EAGLES.
WELL, THANK YOU. ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO.
DARRYL MOFFETT AND I WERE HERE AND TALKING ABOUT THE SOLAR CAR.
LET ME LET ME GO IN HERE TALKING ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD A SOLAR CAR.
SO THIS WAS JUST AN IDEA, WAS A CONCEPTION.
AND THESE KIDS RIGHT HERE, THESE STUDENTS ARE THE ONES WHO DESIGNED AND BUILT THIS CAR.
THEY HAVE WORKED SO HARD AND JUST THINKING THROUGH WHAT THEY DID THIS SUMMER.
YOU'VE GOT PICTURES THAT ARE ROLLING UP HERE.
THEY WENT TO THE TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY AND THESE ARE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT THEY WERE GETTING UP BEFORE 6:00 IN THE MORNING EVERY DAY, AND THEY WERE COMING OUT AND MAKING IT HAPPEN.
AND SO SUPER FUN IF YOU CAN IMAGINE DOING THAT IN HIGH SCHOOL.
WHAT A NEAT, NEAT OPPORTUNITY.
I HAVE SEVERAL STUDENTS HERE WHO WOULD ENJOY GETTING TO TELL YOU MORE ABOUT IT.
[00:10:03]
SO MARCOS, DO YOU WANT TO COME UP? CABAL? VICTORIA, DO YOU WANT TO SOLIDWORKS? ALL RIGHT. GO AHEAD. GOOD EVENING, BOARD DOCTOR MCFARLAND AND EVERYONE BEHIND ME.I'M HERE TO TALK TO YOU ALL TODAY ABOUT THE SOLAR CAR RIGHT NEXT TO ME.
FIRST OF ALL, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW Y'ALL GOT THIS THING IN HERE.
I DON'T KNOW WHO DID THAT, BUT KUDOS TO YOU.
OKAY, SO TWO YEARS AGO, I BELIEVE THIS CAR, IT TOOK US TWO YEARS TO BUILD.
TWO YEARS AGO, WE STARTED WITH JUST THE IDEA OF BUILDING A SOLAR CAR.
NOW, THE PROBLEM WITH AN IDEA IS THAT IT'S AN IDEA.
YOU HAVE TO PROVE IT WILL WORK.
WHAT IT TAKES, THOUGH, IS IT TAKES TIME.
IT TAKES EFFORT, AND YOU'RE GOING TO NEED PEOPLE TO DO IT.
DURING THE BUILDING PROCESS OF THIS CAR, WE HAVE LEARNED MANY THINGS.
LET ME TELL YOU, I NEVER KNEW BLEEDING BRAKES COULD BE SO HARD.
YOU KNOW, CABAL BACK THERE, HE WORKED ON OUR ALIGNMENT FOR OUR CHAIN.
THAT WAS AN ISSUE DURING THE RACE.
SO HE WAS FIXING THAT THE ENTIRE RACE.
YEAH. SO I GUESS I SHOULD START FROM DAY ONE OF SCRUTINEERING.
SO SCRUTINEERING IS BASICALLY THE BEGINNING.
IT'S WHERE YOU GO THROUGH SCRUTINEERING TO PROVE YOUR CAR CAN ACTUALLY RACE.
SO, YOU GO THROUGH STATIONS SUCH AS BRAKING, YOU KNOW, TILT AND TURN.
YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR CAR CAN BE STABLE WHEN IT'S TILTED 20 DEGREES IN THE AIR.
THAT'S VERY HIGH OFF THE GROUND, BY THE WAY.
AND THEN YOU HAVE THINGS I THINK I WENT OVER BREAKING.
IF IT DOES, YOU HAVE TO RESTART.
SO, DAY ONE OF SCRUTINEERING WE HAD OUR DOCUMENTATIONS.
SO, THERE IS A LOT OF DOCUMENTATIONS.
SO WE DID THAT DAY ONE I BELIEVE DURING THE RACE WE WERE STILL TURNING IN DOCUMENTATIONS AS WELL.
SO, PART OF THE SOLAR CAR TEAM IS YOU PROBABLY WOULD NEED SOMEBODY TO DOCUMENT BECAUSE THAT'S ALSO NEEDED TO RACE SO THAT WAS OUR DAY ONE EXPERIENCE WE HAD GETTING TO THE HOTEL DOING OUR DOCUMENTATIONS.
DAY TWO OF SCRUTINEERING IS WHERE WE ACTUALLY STARTED WORKING ON THE CAR AGAIN.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ALL CAN SEE IT.
WE USED TO HAVE A BELT, RIGHT? ONE OF THE ISSUES WITH THE BELT.
YOU HAVE TO AT LEAST GO 15 TO 20 TO EVEN RACE.
AND THE REASON THEY DO THAT IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE WHAT'S CALLED A ROLLING OBSTRUCTION.
WOULD Y'ALL WANT ME TO CLARIFY? SO, A ROLLING OBSTRUCTION OR MOVING OBSTRUCTION IS SIMPLY SOMETHING ON THE TRACK THAT'S MOVING, BUT VERY SLOWLY.
SO WE ENDED UP SWITCHING TO A CHAIN.
I KNOW SOMEONE WHO COULD TELL YOU A LOT ABOUT THAT CABAL.
GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY. I AM CABAL AND YES, THE CHAIN.
AND THE REASON WHY IT FALLS OFF? BECAUSE THE WITH THE SOCKET, WHICH IS A PIECE OF IT, YOU PROBABLY CAN'T SEE IT RIGHT NOW.
BUT IF Y'ALL I CAN SHOW YOU GUYS AFTER THIS.
BUT SO THAT NEEDED TO BE ROPED IN WITH THE CHAIN IN ORDER FOR IT TO ACTUALLY BE ONLINE.
BECAUSE WHEN YOU GET A NEW CHAIN, IT IS ACTUALLY NOT ALIGNED TO WHATEVER THE PATH IS.
SO, YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY RUN IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL IT FINALLY BREAKS IN AND ALIGNS.
SO THAT WAS MOSTLY OUR PROBLEM DURING DAY TWO.
THAT WAS WAITING FOR US AND ONE OTHER THING IS THAT FOR THE CHAIN, IT DOES DRY UP.
SO, YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY KEEP PUTTING.
[00:15:02]
I THINK SOME TYPE OF OIL.I FORGOT WHAT OIL WAS, BUT SOME OIL TO KEEP IT FROM RUSTING AND BASICALLY MOVING AND YES.
OKAY. SO AFTER THAT, SO THAT THAT WAS MOSTLY A MAJORITY OF DAY TWO.
DAY TWO, DAY THREE IS WHEN WE GOT THE CHAIN WORKING.
AND THEN ONCE THAT WAS WORKING, WE IT WAS A EASY I WOULDN'T SAY EASY, BUT IT WAS A FAIRLY EASY PATH.
PASSING THE OTHER SCRUTINEERING STATIONS.
SO, ONE OF THE OUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS WAS ACTUALLY QUALIFYING FOR THE RACE BECAUSE, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, EVEN THOUGH THERE'S A LOT OF TEAMS SHOWING UP TO THIS RACE, NOT A LOT OF TEAMS ACTUALLY QUALIFY FOR THE RACE.
SO, US EVEN QUALIFYING FOR IT IS A BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT, EVEN FOR ITSELF, BECAUSE I THINK THERE WERE ABOUT 39 TEAMS THAT ACTUALLY CAME, BUT ONLY 28 ACTUALLY QUALIFIED, AND WE WERE A PART OF THAT 28.
AND IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT OUR TEAMMATES AND OUR ADVISOR.
YEAH. ANYBODY ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO.
MR. SCHROEDER, COULD YOU TELL EVERYONE THE RESULTS, SO THEY QUALIFY TO LET THEM KNOW HOW THEY FINISHED UP? OKAY. I COULD PROBABLY TELL YOU GUYS THAT OKAY, SO FOR US, OUR CAR IS IN THE CRUISER DIVISION.
SO, WITHIN THE RACE, THERE'S ACTUALLY DIFFERENT DIVISIONS.
RANGE. SOME OF IT WAS CLASSIC ADVANCED CLASSIC CRUISER, WHICH IS THE ONE THAT WE DID.
SO, WITH US, THE WAY OUR ONE WORKS IS THAT THERE, OF COURSE, HAS TO BE A FOUR-SEATER.
IT HAS TO, LIKE, RESEMBLE A CAR, AN ACTUAL CAR.
THE WAY OUR SYSTEMS WORK IS THAT WE GET POINTS BASED OFF OF HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THE CAR.
NO, NO, IT WAS ACTUALLY 600, LIKE 640 LAPS IN TOTAL BY THE END OF THE RACE.
AND WITH THAT, WE GOT THIRD PLACE FOR THE CRUISER DIVISION.
AND THAT IS EVEN ANOTHER ACCOMPLISHMENT OF ITS BY ITSELF.
ALSO, BECAUSE MANAGING TO GET THIRD PLACE OUT OF WHAT, 28 OTHER SOLAR CARS IS STILL A GOOD DEAL.
AND WE HAD IN THE CRUISER, WE HAD, I THINK, FIVE CARS IN THE CRUISER DIVISION ITSELF.
SO IT WAS IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR US AS A TEAM.
AND JUST AS, YOU KNOW, INDIVIDUALS AND AS A TEAM.
AWESOME. I'M VICTORIA HONEGGER.
I JOINED SOLAR CAR AROUND LAST YEAR, SO I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT A YEAR.
AND I GOT TO PRACTICE AND LEARN THINGS THAT I'VE NEVER I'VE NEVER REALLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO I'VE, I GUESS I'D SAY THAT I'M LIKE, NOT REALLY.
GOOD AT WORKING AND ENGAGING WITH PEOPLE, BUT WITH THE SOLAR CAR I'VE GOTTEN, I'VE SEEN AND LIKE ENGAGED WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE A VERY WELCOMING AND EASY ENVIRONMENT TO WORK WITH AND WORK IN.
AND WHILE WE WERE RACING AT THE TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, I KIND OF JOINED IN A BIT LATE, BUT WE WERE STILL THEY WERE STILL VERY OPEN TO ME COMING IN AND HELPING, AND I STILL GOT TO HELP AND ENGAGE IN THE RACE.
[00:20:10]
HEAT, I THINK GETTING THIRD PLACE WAS AN AMAZING FEAT FOR US.YOU WANT TO SHOW THE TROPHY? SO I AM SALVADOR CARLOS AND OBVIOUSLY WE SEE THAT WE BROUGHT THE TROPHY HOME.
SO, THIRD PLACE WAS A BIG FEAT FOR US, ESPECIALLY WITH A BUNCH OF OBSTACLES IN THE WAY.
WE HAD AROUND SIX PEOPLE OR FIVE TO BEGIN WITH, WITHOUT VICTORIA IN THE BEGINNING AND WITH THIS BEING A FOUR-SEATER CAR, WE WOULD ALWAYS HAVE ONE PERSON OUTSIDE AND BUT WE ALWAYS NEEDED AN EXTRA PERSON TO HELP AROUND.
THROUGHOUT THE ENGINEERING PROCESS THE FIRST DAY WE HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE.
WE COULDN'T PASS THROUGH ONE TEST WITH THERE BEING 11 OR SO, AND WE WERE JUST MISSING A BUNCH OF STUFF AND WE DECIDED, SECOND DAY, WE WAKE UP EARLY, AROUND, I BELIEVE, FOUR IN THE MORNING AND WE STAY THERE UNTIL NINE IN THE AFTERNOON.
OBVIOUSLY, WE WERE WELL FED TO TAKE CARE OF WITHIN THE HEAT.
IT WAS VERY FUN, BUT IT WAS DEFINITELY A LOT OF WORK.
WE DID MANAGE TO BRING BACK A TROPHY AND PRETTY COOL.
SO SOME OF THESE STUDENTS HAVE GRADUATED.
SO THEY WERE THEY'VE ALREADY RECEIVED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.
SO RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU'VE GRADUATED.
SO WE HAVE TWO MEMBERS OF THE TEAM WHO GRADUATED.
BUT THAT MEANS WE HAVE TWO MEMBERS OF THE TEAM WHO ARE STILL GOING TO BE AT CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
AND IN TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA, THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE BOARD TO APPROVE ACCEPTANCE OF ANOTHER GRANT TO CONTINUE THIS PROGRAM, TO COME BACK AND FOR YOU ALL TO COMPETE AGAIN, THANKS TO THE SID RICHARDSON FOUNDATION WHO HELPED MAKE THIS GRANT POSSIBLE.
I MEAN, WE SEE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
WE'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.
YOUR HARD WORK DURING SUMMER OUT AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, WAKING UP EARLY AND WORKING ALL DAY LONG, EVEN THOUGH YOU'VE ALREADY GRADUATED AND NOT ENJOYING SUMMER BREAK WITH LIKE, OTHER KIDS. BUT Y'ALL ARE OUT THERE HAVING THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE AND REALLY GETTING SOME GREAT REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE.
I ALSO WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO OUR MAINTENANCE TEAM, MR. MOSLEY AND HIS TEAM.
THEY'VE HELPED GET THIS CAR TO THE COMPETITION, TO VARIOUS PLACES, AND THEY HELP GET THIS CAR INTO THE BUILDING TODAY AND INVOLVE TAKING DOWN DOORS AND MOVING A LOT OF THINGS AROUND. SO THANK YOU TEAM.
WE REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO SPOTLIGHT THEM AND THEIR GREAT WORK.
AND SO, TRUSTEES, WE'D LOVE TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOU ALL AND THE STUDENTS AROUND THE CAR IN THE CAR, IF YOU WANT TO GET IN AND JUST REALLY LET THE WORLD SEE THE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
[00:26:27]
MIC] AS THE TRUSTEES ARE MAKING THEIR WAY BACK TO THE DAIS.I JUST WANT TO SAY, MR. SCHROEDER CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND TO THIS AMAZING, AMAZING TEAM TO TAKE SOMETHING FROM AN IDEA AND A CONCEPT AND ACTUALLY BRING IT INTO FULL MANIFESTATION THAT IS SIMPLY AMAZING.
[APPLAUSE] IT IS NO SMALL FEAT WHAT YOU ALL HAVE ACCOMPLISHED IN JUST TWO YEARS.
AND SO I HOPE THAT YOU ALL ARE RESTING IN IN THIS MOMENT AND IN THE ACCOMPLISHMENT THAT THAT YOU ALL HAVE BEFORE YOU. IT IS SIMPLY MIND BOGGLING TO KNOW, BECAUSE I REMEMBER TWO YEARS AGO, AND AS A MATTER OF FACT, MADAM SECRETARY, I'D LIKE TO
[00:30:10]
GO BACK IN THE RECORDS BECAUSE I THINK I LIFTED IN THAT MEETING THAT I WANTED TO GO ON RECORD AS DRIVING THE VEHICLE.I WOULD HAVE DONE IT TONIGHT, BUT IT'S HARD TO GET IN AND OUT OF THAT THING.
BUT AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL.
AND YOU ALL HAVE PERSONIFIED WHAT IT MEANS TO ACT LIKE A FAMILY AND WORK LIKE A TEAM.
AND SO WE DON'T JUST SAY THOSE WORDS HERE IN CROWLEY ISD, WE REALLY MEAN IT.
SO GREAT JOB AGAIN TO YOU ALL.
I'LL YIELD TO MY COLLEAGUES IF YOU ALL HAVE ANY COMMENTS.
TRUSTEE ROBINSON AND I SAID WE WISH WE WOULD.
BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY, GUYS, YOU GOT THIS IS MIND BLOWING WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE.
SO WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU BRINGING IT TO US AND ALLOWING US TO SEE IT.
BUT WE ALSO ARE SO PROUD OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN GETTING THIRD PLACE.
NEXT YEAR WE'RE GOING TO GET FIRST, BUT OR THE NEXT GO AROUND WILL GET FIRST.
BUT YOU GUYS DID A PHENOMENAL JOB.
AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING IT AND LETTING US SEE IT.
I JUST WANTED TO ECHO MY COLLEAGUES.
THEY HAVE A BACKUP CAMERA AND A NAVIGATION SYSTEM.
AND I LOVE SEEING, LIKE, REAL WORLD THINGS COME TO LIFE.
THE MATHEMATICS, THE SCIENCE, THE ENGINEERING.
ANYONE GOING INTO ENGINEERING, AVIATION? WONDERFUL. YOU ARE TALENTED AND WELL ON YOUR WAY.
WE PROBABLY NEED LESSONS IN HOW THAT ALL WORKS.
HOW SOLAR ENERGY IS CONVERTED TO MAKE THAT MOTOR WORK.
AND I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO IT.
SO MAYBE YOU CAN PROVIDE A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO THAT.
AS YOU GUYS KNOW, SOLAR POWER IS IT DRAWS POWER FROM THE SUN AND TURNS IT INTO ELECTRICITY.
RIGHT. SO USING THAT, WE HOOK IT UP TO A, I THINK IT WAS A 49-VOLT BATTERY.
SO IT HOLDS UP TO, WELL, EACH BATTERY HOLDS UP TO FIVE KILOWATTS.
AND LIKE BOTH WEIGHS 100 POUNDS.
AND SO IN TOTAL WE HAVE TEN KILOWATTS OF ELECTRICITY TO USE WHEN IT, WHEN IT IS FULLY CHARGED.
SO, WITH THAT SO WITH THAT THE BATTERY IS ALSO CONNECTED TO THE MOTOR AND THE MOTOR CONNECTOR, WHICH IS WHAT WHICH DRIVES IT AND DRIVES THE WHEEL AND MAKES THE CAR MOVE.
SO, IT TAKES POWER FROM THE SUN, CONVERTS IT TO ELECTRICITY WHICH CHARGES THE BATTERY.
AND THEN THE MOTOR DRAWS ENERGY ELECTRICITY FROM THE BATTERY TO TURN, WHICH MAKES THE CAR MOVE SO.
WAS HAVING A WHOLE BACK TO THE FUTURE MOMENT? 1.1GW. I JUST DATED MYSELF WITH THAT.
BUT I THINK WE ALSO NEED TO RECOGNIZE THE PRINCIPAL OF CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL DOCTOR WARFIELD.
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AS WELL.
AS WELL AS TO THE FORMER PRINCIPAL OF CROWLEY HIGH SCHOOL WHEN THIS GRANT WAS APPROVED.
DOCTOR MOFFAT, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AS WELL.
THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU DO.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS, COLLEAGUES, BEFORE WE MOVE FORWARD? THANK YOU ALL. WE WILL NOW MOVE TO AGENDA ITEM 4.1, OUR VISION 2030 STRATEGIC DESIGN OVERVIEW AND PLANNING STUDY SESSION.
[4.0 Study Session]
[00:35:09]
DOCTOR MCFARLAND.MR. PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS MR. KIRCHNER'S PREPARED TO PRESENT THIS ITEM CONCERNING OUR 2030 STRATEGIC DESIGN OVERVIEW.
SO, WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHART THE FUTURE MR. KIRCHNER. THANK YOU, DOCTOR MCFARLAND.
MR. PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OUR STRATEGIC PLAN DRIVES EVERYTHING WE DO HERE IN CROWLEY ISD.
AND THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF IT RIGHT HERE.
THRIVING STUDENTS AND ENGAGED COMPUTER, A COMMUNITY AND EMPOWERED STAFF.
AND AS WE ENTER THE FINAL YEAR OF THAT, WE ARE PLANNING AHEAD FOR VISION 2030.
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, TRUSTEES, YOU LEARNED ABOUT THE RFP PROCESS.
AND WE'VE HEARD SOME GREAT FIRMS. WE BROUGHT THOSE TO YOU ALL.
AND AGAIN, WE SELECTED OUR PARTNERS AT ENGAGE TO LEARN TO HELP FACILITATE THIS PROCESS.
ENGAGE TO LEARN PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF VISION 2025.
THEY'RE COMMITTED TO GETTING COMMUNITY INPUT AND ENGAGEMENT IN THAT PROCESS.
AND SO, I AM VERY EXCITED TO WELCOME HOME TONIGHT SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT NEED AN INTRODUCTION, BECAUSE SHE HELPED GUIDE CROWLEY ISD THROUGH THIS LAST TIME WITH SUCH PROFESSIONALISM AND ENGAGEMENT FROM SO MANY DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS.
SO, DOCTOR CROSS, WELCOME BACK TO CROWLEY ISD, WE'RE EXCITED TO BUILD VISION 2030.
AND SO I'M CRYSTAL EXCITED TO SEE SOME FAMILIAR FACES AND ALSO NEW FACES AND A PART OF THE COMPANY ENGAGED TO LEARN WHERE WE JUST WANT TO ENSURE THAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL IS THE FIRST CHOICE FOR EVERY FAMILY.
WE HAVE A BRIEF AGENDA WHERE WE'RE GOING TO GO THROUGH THESE ITEMS TO GIVE A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF STRATEGIC DESIGN BEFORE MOVING INTO THE SURVEY, GETTING YOUR INPUT, AND THEN ALSO HAVING YOU DISCUSS OR SELECT SOME GROUP PARTICIPANTS.
SO FIRST WE'LL BEGIN WITH THE OVERVIEW OF THE STRATEGIC DESIGN PROCESS.
AND TWO QUESTIONS I'D LIKE FOR YOU TO CONSIDER.
YOU WON'T ANSWER THEM NOW, BUT WE'LL COME BACK TO THIS TOWARDS THE END OF THIS PRESENTATION.
IS WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT THIS WORK? AND THEN WHAT CONSIDERATIONS SHOULD WE HOLD AS WE GO INTO THE NEXT STRATEGIC PLAN? SO THE GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR THIS DESIGN MODEL BEGINS WITH STUDENTS.
THIS IS NOT A PLAN THAT WE CREATE AND JUST LEAVE IT ALONE.
THIS IS A PLAN THAT ACTUALLY COMES TO LIFE.
SO WITH BACKWARDS DESIGN THE KEY IS THAT YOU BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND.
YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANT DESIRED RESULTS.
NOTICE AT THE BEGINNING THAT SWIRL IS IT'S A LITTLE CRAZY RIGHT THERE.
THIS WORK BEGINS WITH A LOT OF DISCUSSION AND THINKING ABOUT OUR BELIEFS AND REFLECTING ON WHO WE SAY WE ARE AS YOU MOVE INTO A VERY CONVERGENT PLAN, SO THERE'S THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK QUESTIONS, TO GIVE INPUT, AND TO ALSO SPEAK WITH SOME PASSION AND SHARE THE PURPOSE IN THE IN THE GOALS AND DEFINING WHAT WE WANT. SO, HERE'S THE BIG PLAN.
WE BEGIN IN AUGUST WITH FOCUS GROUPS.
AND SO THAT'S THE ENGAGE PROCESS WHERE YOU HAVE YOUR FOCUS GROUPS ONLINE SURVEY.
IF YOU'LL NOTICE, WE GET INTO THE REVIEW OF SOME PIECES THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE IN PLACE.
WE LOOK AT THE STRENGTH, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES, AND THREATS.
WE DO AN ANALYSIS ON THAT TO DETERMINE CRITICAL OPPORTUNITIES BEFORE MOVING INTO OCTOBER.
THERE'S A VERY STRATEGIC DESIGN INTENDED IN EVERYTHING THAT'S DONE WITHIN THIS PROCESS.
AND BEGINNING OF COURSE, WITH THAT COMMUNITY INPUT.
NOW HERE ARE THE DATES FOCUS GROUPS AUGUST 19TH.
[00:40:04]
SO THOSE ARE COMING UP.AS YOU CAN SEE, WE WILL FINISH WITH THE PROCESS BY NOVEMBER 12TH.
SO THOSE ARE EACH OF THOSE BIG AREAS AND THOSE DATES THERE.
AND NOW I'LL TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT PORTION, THE COMMUNITY SURVEY.
AND THIS IS ONE OF THE PORTIONS WHERE WE WILL BE ASKING FOR YOUR INPUT.
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOUR DATA WILL LOOK LIKE.
OF COURSE, THIS IS NOT YOUR DATA BUT AN EXAMPLE.
THEN ALSO THE COMMUNITY SURVEY.
SO, EVERYONE IS GETTING THAT INPUT AND THAT INFORMATION IS COMPILED.
SO, HERE'S OUR FIRST DISCUSSION QUESTION.
I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU ALL TO SHARE IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE.
BUT WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE INPUT FROM A VARIETY OF STAKEHOLDERS? I'LL JUST SHARE.
I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE DIVERSITY FROM PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES, THEIR BACKGROUNDS, WHAT, YOU KNOW WHAT THEIR SKILL SETS ARE, WHERE THEY, THEY'RE COMING WITH A LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE.
SO I THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS.
AND SO WE CAN EXPECT A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF BUY IN FROM THE STAKEHOLDERS WHO ACTUALLY SHARED THEIR INSIGHTS, YOU KNOW, DURING THE THE SURVEY PHASE OR, YOU KNOW, THE DATA ACQUISITION PHASE.
AND THOSE ARE TWO GREAT POINTS.
AND IT BECOMES GETTING THOSE PERSPECTIVES IS SO IMPORTANT.
AND UNDERSTAND TOO THAT PEOPLE THAT FILL OUT THE SURVEY, EVERYONE WON'T BE IN THE ROOM WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO THE DESIGN, BUT THEIR VOICES ARE NOT MISSED BECAUSE OF THAT INFORMATION THAT'S THERE.
THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE ALSO REMIND THE TEAM THAT'S WORKING IS THAT YOU'RE NOT ONLY IN HERE REPRESENTING YOURSELF, BUT YOU'RE ALSO REPRESENTING THE COMMUNITY AND THE INPUT FROM ALL OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT TOOK TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE SURVEYS AND THE FOCUS GROUPS.
SO THAT PERSPECTIVE, THAT OWNERSHIP IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.
AND I WAS HERE TO SUPPORT THE LAST DESIGN.
AND I CAN SAY PEOPLE SHARED AND THEY WERE PASSIONATE.
WE HAD VERY GREAT DISCUSSIONS.
AND YOU ENDED UP WITH A SOLID STRATEGIC PLAN.
SO THOSE PERSPECTIVES COUNT THE CROWLEY ISD SURVEY QUESTIONS.
YOU HAVE A LINK TO THE AGENDA, AND WE WANT TO FOCUS IN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THAT DOCUMENT.
SO, YOU'LL SEE WHERE IT SAYS BOARD INPUT.
AND THEN ALSO THERE IS A COLUMN THAT ASKS A QUESTION ABOUT THE SURVEY QUESTIONS.
AND THERE'S ALSO A PAPER VERSION THERE IN THE YELLOW FOLDER IF YOU NEED A HARD COPY.
SO, WHAT WE WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO DO AND YOU WON'T COMPLETE IT IN THIS MOMENT, BUT JUST WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE WHAT QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED DURING THE FOCUS GROUP AND ON THE SURVEY.
SO, THERE'S A LIST OF QUESTIONS THERE.
AND THERE IS ON THAT AGENDA DOCUMENT TOWARDS THE BOTTOM WHERE IT SAYS BOARD INPUT.
THAT'S WHEN YOU CAN TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY AGAIN, NOT RIGHT NOW.
AND THEN ANY INFORMATION IN REGARDS TO THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED.
SO YOU CAN ADD SUGGESTIONS TO THE TABLE.
SO AGAIN, YOU HAVE THAT INFORMATION IS ON THE BOARD INPUT.
AND WE'RE JUST TALKING ABOUT THAT FIRST COLUMN.
AND THEN YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE SOME FEEDBACK.
NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE NEXT STEP PARTICIPATION.
AND SO FOR THIS PORTION THIS IS JUST A GUIDING QUESTION.
SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER THIS.
BUT WE JUST WANT YOU TO THINK ABOUT WHO DO YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROCESS.
AND SO YOU COULD HAVE OF COURSE A VARIETY OF INDIVIDUALS.
AND YOU WANT TO HAVE PARENTS STUDENTS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS, SO ON AND SO FORTH.
[00:45:01]
BUT AMONGST THAT, YOU ALSO WANT TO THINK ABOUT WHO'S THERE.SO YOU SEE AN EXAMPLE THAT IS ON THE SLIDE.
IT TALKS ABOUT PARENTS WHO SEND THEIR KIDS TO CISD AND THEN PARENTS WHO DO NOT.
YOU ALSO WANT TO LOOK AT HIGHLY ENGAGED STUDENTS AND THEN DISENGAGED STUDENTS.
SO, YOU WANT A NICE GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS THAT REPRESENTS THE VARIETY THAT YOU HAVE HERE IN CROWLEY.
AND SO YOU JUST WANT PEOPLE THAT ARE COMING WITH GOODWILL.
SO BEING WILLING TO PARTICIPATE, BEING WILLING TO SHARE, BUT ALSO VERY PERSPECTIVES.
SO AGAIN, ON YOUR AGENDA AT THE BOTTOM NOW WE'RE LOOKING AT THAT VERY LAST COLUMN.
AND THAT IS WHERE WE'RE GETTING YOUR INPUT ON WHO DO YOU WANT TO RECOMMEND.
AND OF COURSE, EVERYONE THAT RECOMMENDED, JUST BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF THE GROUP, MAY NOT BE A PART OF THE GROUP, BUT THIS GIVES US A CHANCE TO LOOK THROUGH THE INFORMATION AND PICK, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS.
SO, NOTICE THERE IS ASKING THAT ON THIS DOCUMENT IF YOU WILL INCLUDE THEIR NAME, THEIR EMAIL AND THEIR PHONE NUMBER, ALONG WITH IF THEY'RE A COMMUNITY MEMBER PARENT OR SO FORTH.
SO, YOUR HOMEWORK THAT YOU HAVE OF THOSE QUESTIONS LOOKING AND MAKING SURE THAT THOSE ARE OKAY AND RECOMMENDING THE PARTICIPANTS IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT. SO NOW BACK TO THESE TWO QUESTIONS.
AND JUST WANT TO TURN IT OVER TO YOU.
YOU CAN ANSWER BOTH OR EITHER ONE.
BUT WE'D LOVE TO KNOW WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THIS STRATEGIC DESIGN WORK AND THEN ANY CONSIDERATIONS WE SHOULD KEEP IN MIND AS WE BEGIN TO CREATE THIS NEXT ONE.
AND SO, THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF CHART OUR PATH FORWARD FROM HERE.
THERE ARE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES, I THINK, FOR GROWTH.
SO I'M EXCITED ABOUT ENGAGING OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STAFF MEMBERS AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS AS WE DECIDE WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING AS WE MOVE FORWARD.
I'M EXCITED TO SEE HOW THE COMMUNITY FEELS.
I KNOW THAT WE WORKED ON THIS LAST 1 IN 2019 BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, AND FROM MY EXPERIENCE, PARENTS SEEM TO BE MORE ENGAGED IN EDUCATION NOW SINCE GOING THROUGH THE PANDEMIC.
I KNOW WE HAVE THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS.
WE HAD ONE LAST NIGHT AND PARENTS TEND TO JOIN THOSE A LOT MORE.
SO I JUST WANT TO SEE THEIR VIEWS, THEIR PERSPECTIVES NOW.
PARTICULARLY STUDENTS AND HEAR FROM STUDENT VOICES, PARENT VOICES AND SEE.
WHAT HAS CHANGED FROM 2019 TO 2024? AND GET THAT INSIGHT.
THANK YOU. I AGREE WITH MY COLLEAGUES.
I LIKE THE FACT THAT WE DO INVOLVE OUR COMMUNITY BECAUSE WE DO NEED THEIR VOICES.
I MEAN, BECAUSE THEY SELL A LOT, AS WE KNOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
LISTEN TO WHAT THEY'RE SAYING AND NOT ONLY JUST LISTEN BUT TAKE ACTIONS.
THANK YOU. AND I'LL JUST ADD TO I THINK IT'S SIMILAR TO WHAT DOCTOR HALL WAS SAYING.
BUT I APPRECIATE THE ROAD MAP.
I APPRECIATE THE PLAYBOOK GETTING READY FOR FOOTBALL SEASON.
SO THAT IT'S STEP BY STEP, WE CAN SEE AND BE A PART OF EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
[00:50:05]
AND AGAIN, THE QUESTION ABOUT THE PERSPECTIVES FROM ALL OF THE CONSTITUENTS, ALL OF THOSE STAKEHOLDERS IS GOING TO BE VERY KEY TO HEAR, BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING.YOU KNOW, NOT ONE GROUP KNOWS EVERYTHING.
SO THAT'S WHAT I GREATLY, GREATLY APPRECIATE.
I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WORK, BUT I, I APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING AND HELPING GUIDE US AND THAT, AGAIN, THE LEADERSHIP OF THE DISTRICT AS WELL, JUST HAVING IT DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT WE CAN FOLLOW AND SEE OUR PROGRESS ALONG THE WAY, WE CAN CELEBRATE ALONG THE WAY.
AND THE OUTPUT IS GOING TO BE PHENOMENAL.
THAT'S WHAT I'M EXCITED ABOUT.
THANK YOU. FOR ME, FROM A CONSIDERATION STANDPOINT.
SO ONE OF MY PERSONAL MANTRAS IN LIFE IS IF YOU IGNORE THE CRITICISM, YOU STIFLE YOUR OWN GROWTH.
AND I WOULD SAY FROM A CONSIDERATION STANDPOINT, AND I THINK TO TRUSTEE STEVENSON'S POINT THERE, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE ARE GOOD FOR SHARING THEIR CRITICISMS. AND THIS FORMALIZES A WAY FOR EVEN THOSE WHO ARE NOT NECESSARILY SUPPORTERS OR MAY BE SOMEWHAT CRITICAL OF THE DISTRICT.
IT PROVIDES AN AVENUE FOR THEM TO EVEN BE HEARD AND TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES SO THAT WE CAN, EVEN FROM A CRITICISM STANDPOINT, UNDERSTAND WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS THAT ALL OF THE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, YOU KNOW, ARE WHAT ARE THEIR VIEWS? BECAUSE SOMETIMES PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU, EVEN THROUGH THEIR CRITICISM, WHAT THEIR EXPECTATIONS ARE.
AND IF OUR MISSION IS, YOU KNOW, TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS IN OUR DISTRICT RECEIVE EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION, EVERYBODY'S DETERMINATION OF WHAT EXCELLENCE LOOKS LIKE IS DIFFERENT.
AND SO WE NEED ALL OF THOSE VOICES.
SO, YOU KNOW, MY ADMONISHMENT IS FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS A VESTED INTEREST IN CROWLEY ISD, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE WE WANT TO NOT JUST HEAR THE VOICES THAT CELEBRATE WHAT WE DO, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO BE OPEN TO THOSE WHO CRITICIZE WHAT WE DO AS WELL, SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE COVER UP THE BASIS FOR EVERYBODY.
EXCELLENT. ANY OTHER COMMENTS? WELL, I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU ALL ARE EXCITED AND SHARED YOUR EXCITEMENT.
PEOPLE THAT DISAGREE, SOME THAT AGREE.
THAT'S WHY ON THAT ONE SLIDE THERE WAS THAT LIKE REALLY MESSY PART.
WE'RE GOING TO TALK THROUGH SOME THINGS.
SO WE NEED PEOPLE TO COME THAT ARE WILLING TO WORK AND BE OKAY WITH DISCUSSING SOME HARD TOPICS, WHILE ALSO CELEBRATING THE THINGS THAT HAVE WORKED WELL, THAT ARE GOING WELL, BUT THEN ALSO LOOKING FOR THE PATH FORWARD IN ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED.
IT IS A PROCESS THAT WILL PUSH YOUR THINKING, IT WILL CONFIRM YOUR THOUGHTS, MAYBE CHANGE CERTAIN THINGS, BUT IN THE END WE WALK AWAY WITH A PLAN AND WE NOT JUST COME TO TALK, WE'RE COMING TO COME TO SOME SOLUTIONS THAT FINALIZES AND A PLAN THAT CAN THEN BE HOPEFULLY ADOPTED AND LIVED OUT IN THE WORK THAT YOU ALL DO.
SO WITH THAT SAID, THAT IS EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE.
I DO, AND I'VE TRIED TO TALK MYSELF OUT OF ASKING THIS QUESTION, BUT I CAN'T DO IT.
SO WOULD IT BE ANY VALUE IN ASKING PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT DON'T HAVE KIDS IN CROWLEY SCHOOL TO WORK ON THIS PROJECT.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
AWESOME. JUST WANTED TO FOLLOW UP ABOUT THAT HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT OKAY.
DOCTOR CROSS JUST GAVE EVERYONE.
SO, WHAT'S THE BEST WAY? I KNOW THEY HAVE ACCESS TO THE ONLINE AGENDA AND THE TIMELINE WE'RE LOOKING AT.
OKAY, SO A GOOD WHAT'S A REASONABLE TIMELINE CONSIDERING HOW SOON CAN WE GET THIS BACK? BECAUSE WE HAVE TO GET IT READY FOR SURVEY TO OPEN UP AND FOR FOCUS GROUPS.
CAN WE GET IT BY? TODAY IS WEDNESDAY.
I THOUGHT YOU WERE SAYING. CAN WE GET IT BY TODAY? CAN WE GET IT? CAN WE GET IT BY END OF DAY? FRIDAY? DOES THAT WORK? IF TODAY IS TUESDAY, DO Y'ALL NEED ONE? I SEE, HOW ABOUT THERE WAS A SUGGESTION? MONDAY? YEAH.
[00:55:01]

7.7 ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT AWARDS.
AND FIRST OF ALL, CONGRATULATIONS TO MISS POPE.
THERE SHE IS FOR GETTING THE GRANT AND ALWAYS SEEKING AND SECURING GRANTS FOR TO HELP OUR STUDENTS.
MY QUESTION IS ABOUT WHAT IS IT CALLED STRONGER OUT OF SCHOOL TIME? COULD YOU JUST TELL ME WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, WHAT THAT MAY LOOK LIKE? BECAUSE I'M SURE THINGS ARE NOT DEFINED RIGHT NOW, BUT WHAT ARE SOME OPTIONS FOR HOW THAT MAY LOOK? MR. PRESIDENT, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DOCTOR MCFARLAND.
THANK YOU, MS. DAVIS, FOR THAT QUESTION.
SO, THE OST OUT OF SCHOOL TIME GRANT IS A GRANT THAT WE WERE ABLE TO APPLY FOR BECAUSE WE RECEIVED OUR 21ST CENTURY AFTER SCHOOL GRANT.
AND BECAUSE OF THAT, ANYBODY WHO HAD A SIXTH GRADE THROUGH 12TH GRADE CAMPUSES WERE ABLE TO APPLY FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS THAT WOULD HELP CAMPUSES WITH AFTER SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH.
SO, WE'RE ABLE TO HAVE BRINGING IN COUNSELING IF WE NEED TO BRING IN COUNSELING AFTER SCHOOL TO HAVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLUBS THAT REALLY FOCUS ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF STUDENTS. AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO CUSTOMIZE THAT FOR EACH OF THOSE CAMPUSES TO ENSURE THAT THEY'RE GETTING WHAT THEY NEED AT THOSE CAMPUSES.
MENTAL HEALTH IS SO IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW.
AND I THINK THE INFORMATION WILL SHOW THAT IT'S BEEN A SPIKE SINCE COVID.
SO THAT'S GREAT. I JUST WANTED I SAW THAT IT SAID MENTAL HEALTH, AND I JUST WANTED TO KNOW SOME POSSIBLE OPTIONS FOR USING THAT MONEY. SO, THANK YOU.
